1. VERSION HISTORY
------------------

1.0 (6/12/2003): Wrote the guide. It's completely done, though I may change the
names/story/etc. if I come across a manual or a source that has
actual names, add FAQs if they ever get asked, and maybe add a
walkthrough-- though I don't really think it's necessary.

---------------
2. ABOUT DJ BOY
---------------

To be honest, I don't know much about DJ Boy. I used to play it when I was in
elementary school... my cousin owned it. Being that I was 7 years old, it amused
me at the time. I recently (thanks to the joy of emulation) had the chance to
play it once again, and it's just as fun as it was before.

As far as plot goes, I'm not too sure on specifics; however, it seems that a gang
of rollerskating baddies has kidnapped your girlfriend (who is referred to as both
"Mary" and "Marie"), and it's up to you to get them back. Along the way you'll
encounter foes of all shapes and sizes, and some hilarious bosses, to boot.

As soon as I get a manual (if I ever do), I'll update this part of the guide with
more detailed information. If you know more than I do, please let me know by
contacting me (see part 11 of this guide).

3. CONTROLS & MOVES
-------------------

Sorry, no controller diagram here. I'm just a writer, not an artist.

      A Button: Punch
      B Button: Kick
      C Button: Jump
  Start Button: Pause/Unpause
   A+B Buttons: Double Punch
B Button in air: Jump Kick

PUNCH
-----
This is just a normal punching attack. It has shorter range than the kick,
so it's not really that useful.

KICK
----
A normal kicking attack which has longer range than the punch. This is my
move of choice for taking out the baddies.

JUMP
----
Become airborn. Duh.

Double Punch
------------
Punches both left and right simultaneously. Good if you're being
double-teamed, though it's rather weak compared to your normal
attacks.

Jump Kick
---------
Very useful against bosses; kicks while in midair to give your foes
a skate to the face. That's gotta hurt...

----------
4. OPTIONS
----------

RANK- Can be set to EASY or NORMAL. When set to EASY, opponents go down faster,
and you take less damage. On NORMAL, opponents take more of a beating, and
you lose live very quickly. Beware.

MUSIC TEST- Listen to the tunes in the game.

SOUND TEST- Listen to the sound effects in the game.

--------
5. ITEMS
--------

In between levels you'll visit the item shop where you can purchase various power-
ups. Here's the list:

HAMBURGER
---------
Cost: $100
Effect: Refills your life gauge completely. May be bought more than once.

SKATE
-----
Cost: $400
Effect: Allows you to move around the screen faster.

ROCKET GLOVE
------------
Cost: $400
Effect: Improves the speed of your attacks.

HELMET
------
Cost: $500
Effect: Improves your defense.

POWER
-----
Cost: $500
Effect: Improves your attacking strength.

CAT
---
Cost: $1000
Effect: Gives you an extra life. You can only have one of these at a time, but
if you lose your extra life, you may buy another on your next visit.

There are also a few things that show up outside of the shop during regular play.
They are:

HAMBURGER
---------
Effect: Refills all of your life on EASY, and 2 bars of life on NORMAL.

FLOATING CAT
------------
Effect: Knock him down and he'll drop a hamburger. He appears on level five.

COINS
-----
Effect: Gives you $20. Enemies drop one, bosses drop three, and some stages have
       them littered about.

----------------------
6. ENEMIES & OBSTACLES
----------------------

Here is a list of enemies you'll encounter during the game, and some basic
strategies to defeat them. Enemies are listed in order of appearance.
I've also listed inanimate objects, since they're harmful to you as well.
(NOTE: Names are NOT official... I made them all up.)

SKINNY
------
Description: Skinny fellow dressed in white. Attacks using a punch of some sort.
Strategy: Just stay lined up with him and give him a few kicks. Don't be fooled,
however; these boys are dangerous in groups.

FATTY
-----
Description: Fat fellow dressed in white. Attacks with a bellyflop.
Strategy: Same as SKINNY: stay lined up, kick, and watch out for groups.

TRAFFIC CONE
------------
Description: Um... a traffic cone.
Strategy: If it's stationary, don't run into it. If it's moving, dodge
            accordingly.

SHORTY
------
Description: Short fellow dressed in white. He attacks by kicking.
Strategy: Try to kick him when he's not attacking. Also, be sure to pick up the
            hamburger if he drops one.

TROLLEY CAR TRIXIE
------------------

Description: Rides the trolley in the background in level one. She throws dynamite,
and she can't be attacked. Once the trolley car leaves the screen, she
runs by and chucks dynamite at you.
Strategy: Just make sure you dodge the dynamite, and when she dashes by, get low
on the screen. She can harm you if she runs into you.

DYNAMITE
--------

Description: Explosives thrown by various enemies throughout the game. Explosions last
            for a moment.
Strategy: Stay out of the way of these things; getting caught in their explosion can
spell doomsday for you rather quickly.

SKINHEAD
--------

Description: Wears green clothing, and has a bald head. Attacks by punching.
Strategy: Just stay lined up, kick, and don't get hit... easy, right?

PRETTY BOY
----------

Description: SKINHEAD's companion; he has neatly combed hair. Attacks by punching.
Strategy: Same as before... line up, kick, dodge. *Yawn*...

ROADBLOCK
---------

Description: A yellow and black-striped roadblock. Heh.
Strategy: Just don't run into it.

RED SKATEBOARDER
----------------

Description: Wears a red shirt, rides a skateboard. He just kinda flies by you quickly.
Sometimes he drops a black object when he gets hit; if he does, dodge it.
Strategy: If he's in line with you, a well-placed kick will bring him down.

BLACK OBJECT (dropped by SKATEBOARDERs)
------------

Description: A little black object... not sure what it is. Usually dropped by
SKATEBOARDERs, though they sometimes fall from above.
Strategy: Skate around them, and try not to let them fall on you.

UNICYCLIST
----------

Description: Rides a unicycle; they come in various colors/outfits, and drop black
            objects.
Strategy: Same as the RED SKATEBOARDER, except this guy sometimes veers in front of
            you.

GREEN SKINNY
------------

Description: Same as SKINNY, only in a green outfit.
Strategy: Same as SKINNY, only he seems to take more of a beating.

GREEN FATTY
-----------

Description: Same as FATTY, only in a green outfit.
Strategy: Same as FATTY, only he seems to take more of a beating.

OIL SLICKS
----------

Description: Strips of black substance on the ground that make it hard to skate.
Strategy: There's no real way to keep your footing on these things; just try to avoid
fighting until you get past them, and try not to miss burgers/coins, as it's
            easy to do.

BLACK BALL
----------

Description: Black balls that either fall from the sky or roll along the ground.
Strategy: Skate around them, and use their shadows to stay out from under them when
            they're falling.

BLUE SKATEBOARDER
-----------------

Description: Wears a blue shirt, rides a skateboard. Just like the RED variety, only
this guy throws dynamite most of the time. Beware of these, and the mysterious
            black objects.
Strategy: Don't bother attacking them; stay out of their way, and dodge their dynamite.

BIG EXPLODIN' CLOWN
-------------------

Description: A big clown head with feet; he bounces, and explodes.
Strategy: Attacking them just makes them explode. They'll explode anyway, but if you keep
your distance, you won't be harmed by the explosion.

BOXES
-----

Description: Big brown boxes. They sit there. Like boxes normally do.
Strategy: They don't harm you, but they do slow you down. Just don't run into them.

LIL' EXPLODIN' CLOWN
--------------------

Description: Just like their big brothers, only smaller... and they travel in trios.
Strategy: Just don't be near them when they blow up, and don't attack them.

PITS
----

Description: Holes in the ground.
Strategy: Jump over them, or pay with a huge chunk of your life.

----------------------
7. BOSSES & STRATEGIES
----------------------

Here's a list of the bosses, and some general strategies on how to defeat them. AGain, all
names are made up until I can find a source for the real ones.

LEVEL 1 - BIG MOMMA
-------------------

She's big, she's bad, she looks like she's had a bit too much sun, and she's ticked about
something. She also has a few attacks up her sleeve: She can unleash a flurry of kicks at
close range, perform a jump kick that can travel in any direction and cover about a third
of the screen, and she can also throw yellow objects of some kind (my guess is they're
pizza dough, or something... this woman looks rather Italian, does she not?).

She's not as bad as she looks; in fact, she's quite simple to defeat. Let her come to you,
and if you're lined up, perform a jumpkick without going to the left or right. That way if
you miss, you won't be close enough to allow her to unleash her kicks on you. If she does
manage to get you caught in them, move up or down to get away. If she's far away when she's
knocked down, she'll get up and perform a flying jumpkick toward you. If you're at the
complete opposite side of the screen, she can't reach you with it. And lastly, if she starts
throwing the yellow things at you, move up or down to get out of the way. Just keep plugging
away with jumpkicks, and she'll eventually go down for good.

NOTE: She'll have a SHORTY with her at the start of the battle. Get him out of the way, and
     then focus on BIG MOMMA.

LEVEL 2 - BREAKDANCING MALE STRIPPER GUY
----------------------------------------

Okay, this guy's a fruit. He's obviously a male stripper, and his only attack seems to be
breakdancing. He'll perform his crazy dance moves at two different times: when you're close
to him, and sometimes after recovering from being hit. When he does the latter, he'll come
charging toward you; just try to stay out of his way as best you can. There's also another
threat when you fight him here-- black balls falling from the sky. The safe strategy here
is to wait until they quit falling, and then get in a few jumpkicks, and repeat. Just be wary
of his breakdancing, and you should be okay.

LEVEL 3 - CLOWN TWINS
---------------------

A pair of clowns will come after you at this point, and they're quite easy to deal with. One
will come out a few seconds before the second one, so take this opportunity to attack by
kicking him as much as you can. Just using normal kicks suffices here. Usually after you kick
one, he'll bounce back a bit. Follow him and continue kicking until he flies slides across the
screen, wait for him to stop, and repeat. The clowns' only attack seems to be their punches,
which have a very short range; but try not to get hit, as it can take off quite a bit of damage.
Note that both clowns share the same life meter.

After you destroy a clown, he'll explode; be sure to stay out of the way. Then, a BIG EXPLODIN'
CLOWN will come out. He'll bounce around for awhile (15 bounces, to be exact), and then explode.
Now three LIL' EXPLODIN' CLOWNS will appear, and bounce around for awhile (10 bounces this time),
and then explode. I recommend taking the clowns out one by one, so you don't have so many
explosions to worry about.

LEVEL 4 - DJ BOY CLONE
----------------------

He's blue, and he's just like you! But, he's not all that bad. Using kicks works here as well, as
you can usually pummel him repeatedly with them before he gets a chance to attack. When he does
attack, he'll either use a rapid jumpkick, normal attacks, the double-fist attack, or a flurry of
punches. All of these attacks are very damaging, so beware. Try to judge when he's going to start
attacking, and retreat until you find an opening and then kick him repeatedly.

LEVEL 5 - THE GAUNTLET
----------------------

Yep, you have to fight all of the bosses again. Use all the methods stated above, and you should
be fine. BREAKDANCING MALE STRIPPER GUY is actually easier to defeat since there will be no balls
falling from the ceiling. After you beat the 4 bosses, you'll fight a new boss...

HAIR METAL GUY
--------------

This guy just SCREAMS hair metal, from his hair, to his clothes, to his fire-breathing habit...
oh, did i mention this guy's a pushover? Well, he is. And don't let his fire-breathing fool you;
I've tried to intentionally jump into it, and it's never harmed me. It's just for show, folks.
His only attack is a flurry of punches; just don't get too close to him, and you'll be fine.

Anyhow, go back to the jumpkick technique. Sometimes he'll fall completely over after being hit,
and sometimes when he gets up he'll breath fire into the air. Just use this time to distance
yourself from him and ready your next attack. After you beat him, it's onto the final boss...

LEVEL 6 - BIG SUMO MOMMA
------------------------

Well, she looks like BIG MOMMA, only with a new outfit and a normal complexion. Use the jumpkick
method on her. When you hit her, she'll disappear most of the time, and reappear a few seconds
later. When she reappears, she'll do a flying kick around the screen for awhile, or until she
hits you. Stay out of the way until it's finished, and then jumpkick her again.

She also has the usual punching attack when you get too close, and she does the flying kick
at random intervals throughout the fight-- but it's nothing you haven't seen before.

She'll take longer to beat than the other bosses, but if you have your extra life you should be
fine. After you beat her, sit back and enjoy the Engrish-filled ending.

Be sure to put something about DJ Boy in the subject so I don't think it's spam, or whatever.

9. RUMORS & OTHER STUFF
-----------------------

-During your fight with DJ BOY CLONE, he uses a rapid-punch attack. Is it possible for you to
perform this move? I'm looking into it.

-Between levels five and six, your girlfriend is referred to as "Mary," but during the epilogue,
she's referred to as "Marie." So, maybe DJ is dating two chicks at once? Hm...

-If you beat the game on EASY, you'll restart automatically on NORMAL with your score and money intact.

-For some reason there are beer advertisements in the background on level one. That's not something
you'd expect from a game from this era.

-At the item shop on the HELMET powerup, there's a word, which appears to be "GAN." What is this GAN,
and what does it mean?

-Your score affects nothing in the game.

-Your life bar increases after each level (to a maximum of 10 bars), as follows:

LEVEL 1: 4 bars
LEVEL 2: 6 bars
LEVEL 3: 8 bars
LEVEL 4: 10 bars

-You gain extra money after each level, as follows:

LEVEL 1: $300
LEVEL 2: $400
LEVEL 3: $500
LEVEL 4: $600
LEVEL 5: $700
LEVEL 6: $800
