1. INTRODUCTION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the first guide that I wrote. I was going to make a guide to
Pokemon Gold/Silver, but the computer messed it up and by that time there was
15,000,000 guides to that game on the Internet!

One day at Wal-Mart, I found X-Men:Mutant Wars for $20 and decided to buy it.

This game is basically is the same "fighting-type" kind of game like
Capcom's Final Fight series, and something like the X-Men games for the
Sega Genesis system.

And since most game websites and magazines think this is not a very good
game and did not see a lot of hints, codes, or cheats for this game, this may be
one of the very few guides you will read about this game!

NOTE: I AM NOT A FAN OF THE X-MEN COMIC BOOKS!!
Oh forgive me for describing some of the character's skills and the basic comic
book's story wrong, but I am not a fan of the comic books or any comic book with
people wearing spandex tights. I got this game because it was CHEAP! I am much more
of a fan of Pokemon. How Wolverine got those sharp metal thingies that come out
of his hands, I don't know much about that. How Ash
caught Snorlax in the Pokemon cartoon, THAT I do know much! I got the episode on
tape!

Enough talk, let's get on with the guide!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. GAME STORY INTRODUCTION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Professor Xavier and the X-Men, a group of mutants who are protecting the world,
are trying to stop Professor Xavier's rival Magneto from starting a war and taking
over the world.

And if that wasn't enough, there are evil mutants, cyborg robots and monsters
that are getting in the way.

It's up to the X-Men to find out who is making trouble, creating the cyborg
robots, and put an end to all this and save the world from destruction.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. BASIC CONTROLS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After you turn on the system and go through the introduction scenes, you
will see the main menu with 3 choices:

STORY MODE: This is the regular game. Go through 9 levels to find out the entire
story of the game.

FIGHT MODE: Try to defeat all of the bosses in succession with using all of the
X-Men ONCE.

PASSWORD: After you finish a level, you will receive a password for the next level.
I will give you passwords for each level in section 6: GAME LEVELS AND PASSWORDS.

When you are in the game itself:

BUTTON A: jump (tap A again in mid-jump for double jump)
BUTTON B: attack (use with UP/DOWN for diagonal attacks)
LEFT/RIGHT: move left & right (press twice quickly to run or fly)
UP: go into doors or up ladders
DOWN: go into holes and sewers

In the game, you start with Wolverine, but to get the other X-Men:

PRESS:
LEFT+SELECT: Gambit
UP+SELECT: Iceman
RIGHT+SELECT: Cyclops
DOWN+SELECT: Storm

Press SELECT alone to get back to Wolverine.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. CHARACTER CONTROLS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are 5 X-Men to choose from when playing the game. Each are about the same
when fighting regular enemies, but some are better then others when fighting the
main bosses of each level which I will describe in section 6: GAME LEVELS AND
PASSWORDS.

Besides having a HP(hit points, energy) meter, each one has a XP (X-power energy)
meter that runs down after using special attacks and will rise back up after some
time.

The X-Men are:

Wolverine (real name: Logan)
mutant powers: razor sharp claws that come out of his hands

ATTACKS
-------
B+UP:uppercut
A, then B+DOWN: jump, then a flying kick (press B lots of times for lots of enemies)
A+Diagonal UP, LEFT/RIGHT: frontflip (uses up XP)
A+UP: high backflip
A+DOWN: back handspring (uses up XP)
B, then A quickly while running: super slash (uses up XP)
B+LEFT/RIGHT while running: knee attack
B+Diagonal UP while running: flying knee attack
A+UP to high backflip, then quickly A+B+DOWN: power spike (uses up XP)

SPECIAL MOVE: Super Speed (uses up XP)
To get this move for the rest of the level, use only super slash or power spike
attacks to defeat FOUR ENEMIES WITHIN THE FIRST 10 SECONDS OF THE LEVEL ON THE MAIN
ROUTE ONLY.
---------------------------------------------------
Cyclops (real name Scott Summers)
mutant power: laser blasts that come out of his eyes

ATTACKS
-------
B: fire laser blast
B+UP/DOWN: fire laser blast diagonally left or right
---------------------------------------------------
Storm (real name Ororo Munroe)
mutant power:shoots cyclones

ATTACKS
-------
B:shoot cyclone
B+UP/DOWN:shoot cyclone diagonaly left or right
----------------------------------------------------
Gambit (real name Remy Lebeau)
mutant power: throws playing cards that explode

ATTACKS
-------
B:throw card
B+UP/DOWN: throw card diagonaly left or right
-----------------------------------------------------
Iceman (real name Bobby Drake)
mutant power: shoots ice shards

ATTACKS
-------
B: shoot shard
B+UP/DOWN: shoot shard diagonaly left or right

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. ITEMS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are 6 different items to collect:

Key: necessary to collect to go to the next level
Big Heart: recover a lot of your HP meter
Little Heart: recover a little of your HP meter
Star: recover some of your XP meter
Ruby: raises the maximum of the HP meter a little (recommended)
Green Globe: revives a X-Man, if all are still available, then restores a lot of
your HP meter

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. GAME LEVELS & PASSWORDS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is how to get through the game. The passwords that you can get can be different
each time you play. It all depends on how many enemies you defeated, how many items
you collected and how many X-Men are available at the end of the level. So I just
wrote down the passwords that showed up on the screen, they are ok to put in at
the password screen.

Note: You must go through all of the exits, doors, sewers, etc., and defeat MOST
of the enemies because the KEY and other items will appear in random places in each
level.

--------------------------------------
LEVEL 1: Canada        PASSWORD: none

Magneto has created some cyborg robots and are running through the Canadian forest.

You must go through green and red cyborgs and green and blue spheres that shoot
lasers (the green ones are the most difficult). Use Wolverine's flying kick to get
through the enemies real easy. And run to the end.

LEVEL BOSS: Sabretooth

Use Wolverine's super slash or regular knee attack or use Storm to knock
Sabretooth down. When he's down, hit him over and over as much as you can (this
is the basic strategy for most of the level bosses).
---------------------------------------
LEVEL 2:Graveyard  PASSWORD: 1KNF6HWG

Now it's time to go through a graveyard to find out who sent the cyborgs.

The enemies here consist of zombies that can drain your HP if you don't wiggle
out of their grasp, samurai-looking enemies that can slice you quick if you don't
double jump when they appear, and those green and blue spheres return again. Just
double jump and run through to the end,
but don't forget to defeat some enemies to find items, and the KEY.

LEVEL BOSS: Waraxe

Use Cyclops, 3 or 4 good blasts to Waraxe's body will knock him down fast. Watch
out for the flying axe.
--------------------------------------
LEVEL 3:Catacombs PASSWORD: 1KNK6HX8

Some mysterious figure has escaped into the catacombs.

Here you fight red and green cyborg robots (from level 1), the samurai enemies and
the green spheres. And this level you jump from cliff to cliff.

Use Wolverine's flying kick or use the others' powers LOTS to get the hearts to
restore HP; double jump ONLY at gaps in the floor.

LEVEL BOSS: Specter

Use any X-Men except Wolverine. When you hit Specter, double jump out of the way
to avoid him charging at you with a powerful punch.
---------------------------------------
LEVEL 4:Underground Fortress PASSWORD: 8NNG6HYC

NOTE TO GAME BOY ADVANCE USERS: This level will appear dark on the screen, so the
ladders will be hard to see.

That mysterious figure has escaped to an underground fortress in the sewers.

The enemies here are the green and blue spheres, and little crawling tank robots.
Easy to get through, but has what I think is the most difficult boss.

LEVEL BOSS: Shadow

This one is tricky. This R2-D2 look-alike can shoot bombs and rockets that can drain
the HP meter before you know it.

Try to get directly under Shadow and use Wolverine's uppercut and flying kick
attacks. For the
others, try to shoot at Shadow diagonally at him left or right.
----------------------------------------
LEVEL 5: New York City Train Yard PASSWORD: SNNG6HZR

Now somebody is sending cyborgs to New York City.

The enemies here are the blue and green spheres, the samurai and red and green
cyborgs.

Wolverine's double kick comes in handy here.

LEVEL BOSS: Sentinel

This one will shoot bullets from each hand.

Use Wolverine's flying knee attack or uppercut, or use Storm or Gambit's powers
AT THE HEAD.
-----------------------------------------
LEVEL 6:Train PASSWORD: RMPK7H0W

Now its time to find out about that mysterious figure.

Besides blue & green spheres, and red & green cyborgs, there are green werewolves
with pants in this level! They can kick you real fast, so use a double shot with
any X-Men, except Wolverine.

LEVEL BOSSES: Mystique & Sabretooth

When you go down the last ladder on the train, Cyclops will say that Wolverine
must fight alone. The first fight is with Mystique disguised as Wolverine. It's
tough to figure out which one you control, and if your Wolverine's HP is gone, game
over. So it is a very good idea to
let Wolverine's HP go out, outside on top of the train by the green werewolves,
then you can use the rest of the X-Men in the bosses' fights.

To defeat Mystique, just use Cyclops' blast a few times, then Sabretooth will come
out, more powerful than he was in level 1. Just use the same strategy you used on
him in level 1.
-----------------------------------------
LEVEL 7: Washington, D.C. PASSWORD: WMPK7H1L

Mystique escapes and disguises herself as a FBI agent.

This takes place inside the White House, no President (name of current president
here) here.

Besides the green and blue spheres and crawling tank robots, there are secret
service agents that can't be defeated, just stunned.

Double jump on to the lamps hanging from the ceiling and double jump from
lamp-to-ledge-to-lamp-to-etc., to avoid the agents. Go into the rooms to get items.
Then go all the way right.

LEVEL BOSS: Magneto

This is the second most difficult boss in the game; he can shoot a force field that
you can't see.

Use the same strategy that you used on Shadow in level 4. When Magneto is down use
Storm, if available, and hit far away, over and over again.
-------------------------------------------
LEVEL 8: Apocalypse's Base PASSWORD: YMPK7H2H

We find out that the cyborgs are being made for Apocalypse's new army. The X-Men
now have to destroy the base.

NOTE TO GAME BOY ADVANCE USERS: This level will appear dark on the screen, so the
little platforms will be hard to see. You have to try to time the jumps over this
area of the level.

The enemies here are just the blue & green spheres, crawling tank robots, and the
red and green cyborgs. Don't double jump a lot; just use regular attacks a lot.

LEVEL BOSS: System A

This is a big computer with 4 laser gun thingies. Destroy the big one on the right
with
Wolverine's uppercut and diagonal attacks with the others.
---------------------------------------------
LEVEL 9: Apocalypse's Base 2 PASSWORD: YMPM7H3J

Now it's time to battle Apocalypse and defeat him. This takes place in some warehouse
area.

NOTE TO GAME BOY ADVANCE USERS: This level will appear dark on the screen, so the
cracks in the ground will be hard to see.

All the enemies except the zombies, the samurai enemies, and level bosses return.
There are also enemies that throw bombs from windows. Running is not good since
there are cracks in the ground that slow you down if you try to run.

LEVEL BOSS: Apocalypse

This is the third most difficult boss to defeat.

He fights in 2 styles:

1: He will turn orange and shoot a giant blast into the sky and giant meteors will
rain down on you. When he shoots the big blast, RUN and go left(or right) to miss
the first meteor, DON'T STOP, then RUN right (or left) to miss the second one, then
left (or right) again to miss the third one, right (or left)
for the fourth and final one. DON'T FORGET TO RUN AFTER EVERY SINGLE METEOR! If
you don't, your X-Men's HP will go down in a flash. After the last meteor, Apocalypse
will return, attack him over and over again until he disappears. Storm works great
here.

2: He will turn orange at the top of the screen and shoot lasers. Dodge them, and
when he comes down to the ground, attack him QUICKLY and attack him over and over
again until he disappears. Storm is also good here.

Apocalypse will switch fighting styles over and over. Just use the strategies used
above until his HP is gone.

AND THAT'S THE END OF THE GAME!!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. CONCLUSION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the end of the game and the guide. I know the guide is small, but the
game is also small and easy to beat. It's a good game for beginning players of this
kind of game.

There is an X-Men game coming out for the Game Boy Advance. Maybe I will get it
and make a guide for it, if there isn't 10 zillion guides out for it like Pokemon!

If you have any questions about this game, or have any hints or tricks for this
game. Send me an e-mail at:
----------------------
[email protected]
----------------------

I am looking for the following:

Game Shark codes
Better passwords
Invincibility and infinite XP codes
And a good looking logo for the top of the guide

If you have any of these, send them in, and I will put your name in this guide to
give you
credit.

THANKS FOR READING THIS GUIDE!!!!! =)

Once again, here's that all-important legal stuff:
