04 - Weapons
**************
Simple Turbo: A single-use boost that will increase your speed for a short
time.
Triple Turbo: Same as the simple boost, except you can use it 3 times.
Single Fire Rocket: A heat-seeking (howo ironic) rocket. You can use it
once.
Triple Fire Rocket: A 3-pack of single fireballs.
Single Freeze Rocket: A projectile that temporarily freezes your opponent.
Triple Freeze Rocket: You get 3 of the aforementioned rockets.
Ghost: Become invisible and invincible for a short time.
Invincibility: Get a super boost plus invincibility for a short while.
Ultimate Weapon: Several lightning bolts hit the ground, stopping every
other racer in their tracks.
- Computer's Weapons -
Oil Slick: This will make you skid across the road. If you touch the edge,
you'll crash.
Bomb: Just what it sounds like. This will make you crash as soon as you
touch it.
Mine: These are the rock-looking objects next to the item blocks. Unless
you're the Ant-hill Mob, avoid them.

* THE SLAG BROTHERS - the Boulder-Mobile
The rough road-side won't slow down this rough pair! Asphalt or dirt,
it's all same for the sturdy boulder-mobile.
-Top Speed: 92 mph, 148 kmh
-Best Feature: Rough road edges won't slow them down. Can also run over
other racers without losing speed.
-Worst Feature: A little slow accelerating and such.
* RED MAX - the Crimson Haybailer
Red Max can fly long distances after taking a trampoline, and that is
most useful to get over obstacles on the road and distance the other racers!
-Top Speed: 95 mph, 153 kmh
-Best Feature: Starts flying over the jumps! Very Cool.
-Worst Feature: Gets pushed around a lot. Doesn't take very nicely to bumps.
* PENELOPE PITSTOP - the Compact Pussycat
Charming Penelope won't be too harrased by aggresive opponents as they
are chivalrous...except for Dick Dastardly that is!
-Top Speed: 98 mph, 158 kmh
-Best Feature: All-around driver
-Worst Feature: All-around driver
* SERGEANT BLAST AND PRIVATE MEEKLY - the Army Surplus Special
This sturdy vehicle never loses its grip on the road, thanks to the
caterpillar tracks...it will never skid, even on oil spills or ice!
-Top Speed: 90 mph, 145 kmh
-Best Feature: Perfect traction and grip
-Worst Feature: Awful Acceleration
* THE ANT HILL MOB - the Bullit-Proof Bomb
Dangerous fake bonuses are just as good as real ones for this clever
bunch. Hey, who do you think could outsmart their cunning leader Clyde!
-Top Speed: 96 mph, 155 kmh
-Best Feature: Mines work as normal bonuses.
-Worst Feature: Gets pushed around easily.
* PETER PERFECT - the Turbo Terrific
The quickest of all the wacky racers, especially that he always gets
triple turboes in the bonus lottery instead of simple turboes!
-Top Speed: 101 mph, 163 kmh
-Best Feature: Always triple turboes, the fastest top speed of any racer.
-Worst Feature: Control and acceleration are pretty bad.
* RUFUS RUFFCUT AND SAWTOOTH - the Buzz Wagon
Rufus never stays stranded on the road very long after a crash, thanks to
his crafty partner Sawtooth the Beaver, reconstructing the Buzz Wagon in no
time.
-Top Speed: 93 mph, 150 kmh
-Best Feature: Super-quick crash recovery.
-Worst Feature: Pretty Slow
* DASTARDLY AND MUTTLEY - the Mean Machine
These rascally no-good-doers have bent the rules of the Wacky Races for
their own benfit; each time they should get a turbo or a rocket in the bonus
lottery, they get a triple turbo or a triple rocket. What a dastardly thing
to do!
-Top Speed: 99 mph, 160 kmh
-Best Feature: Better Items
-Worst Feature: BAD acceleration. And I mean BAD!

06 - Tracks
*************
NOTE: The tracks are listed in the order they are in when Time Trial mode is
enabled.
1 - Arkansas Length: 11 mi, 18 km Time: 3:05 Bonuses: 16
This is basically your average track. Just be faster than the enemies and
you'll win.
2 - Hawaii Length: 12 mi, 20 km Time: 3:10 Bonuses: 20
Watch out for the lava trails on this track. Just use the ramps to get
over them safely.
3 - Alaska Length: 12 mi, 19 km Time: 3:10 Bonuses: 14
Bonuses are not so prominent in this level, plus the roads are icy, so
take extra caution and spare your items.
4 - Missouri Length: 13 mi, 20 km Time: 3:20 Bonuses: 20
Yet another normal track. Just keep away from bombs and such and you'll
be fine.
5 - New York Length: 10 mi, 16 km Time: 2:40 Bonuses: 14
You drive this track at night, so it's hard to see the other racers. Be
careful coming around corners as the enemies will lay bombs when you don't
expect them to.
6 - Michigan Length: 11 mi, 17 km Time: 2:50 Bonuses: 15
You can't see very far in front of you on account of the fog, so try to
stay on the edge of the road to avoid oil spills and such.
7 - Oregon Length: 10 mi, 15 km Time: 2:40 Bonuses: 13
This track is fairly normal except for the semi-trucks that come against
you. Stay on the right side of the road.
8 - Nevada Length: 09 mi, 15 km Time: 2:40 Bonuses: 14
An average level with your normal obstacles. I think you know what to do.
9 - Mississippi Length: 11 mi, 18 km Time: 3:00 Bonuses: 13
Use the ramps to get over the river. It will slow you down significantly.
Other than that, it's normal track.

ARCADE MODE: This is like a Mario GP on MarioKart. You try to win all the
races in a specific cup to win that cup. Below is a list of those cups.

CHAMPIONSHIP MODE: Earn points depending on your final position as you race
all 9 tracks. The following point scale is provided:
1st: 100 pts.
2nd: 80 pts.
3rd: 60 pts.
4th: 40 pts.
5th: 30 pts.
6th: 20 pts.
7th: 10 pts.
8th: 0 pts.
TIME TRIAL MODE: Race any track you'd like for practice, or to beat your
best time!
ENDURANCE MODE: A very unique mode. You start in 8th position on shortened
tracks. Instead of going in one long strip, the race is repeats itself, or
has laps. There are 7 laps. AFter each lap, the racer in last gets
eliminated. Therefore, you must keep higher than last at all times. If you
are in 1st at the end of lap 7, you win the race and go on to the next one.
Try to beat all 9 tracks!

08 - Cheats/Codes

As you probably have realized, you need passwords to unlock the Crazy Cup
and some of the racers. I have painstakingly compiled a list of the codes
you will need for whatever reason.

One bug/cheat that I found is that when the MUTTLEY code is activated, all
you need to do is press 'select' mid-game and you will finish the race in
that position. This also works in Time Trial mode. i.e., after you press
select, your time is whatever it was at that point in the race. In other
words, you can finish any race in 00:00!

RACER COMPARISONS
This is a ranking list of how I like each racer:
1 - Red Max: Being able to fly over jumps is an awesome ability.
2 - Slag Brothers: It's nice not to have to worry about rough roads.
3 - Rufus Ruffcut: His fast recovery comes in quite handy.
4 - Ant Hill Mob: Don't worry about mines anymore!
5 - Peter Perfect: His speed is nice, but that's about it.
6 - Penelope Pitstop: Well, she's kinda fast...
7 - Sergeant Blast: Great control, but he's so slow!
8 - Dick Dastardly: He's slow, control's weak, and his car's ugly.
As you can see, I usually prefer people with special abilities. But
whatever wins, right? They can all be fun sometimes, but Red Max is fun ALL
the time!
And now my rating of the tracks...
1 - Mississippi: It has jumps, plus the BKG music is wonderful!
2 - Hawaii: Likewise with the jumps. They make it worthwhile.
3 - New York: The dark adds a certain thrill.
4 - Oregon: The BKGs are awesome, plus the trucks are a challenge.
5 - Alaska: Slick roads add that extra hazard to the game.
6 - Michigan: The fog is kinda cool...
7 - Arkansas: A good ol' average track.
8 - Missouri: Likewise...
9 - Nevada: It's so...deserty.
Now don't get me wrong, they're ALL fun tracks, it's just that some are more
fun than others!
BKG MUSIC RATINGS
The background music in this game was so good, I decided to give it its own
ratings section. My favorite musics (in order) follow:
1 – Mississippi
2 – Michigan
3 – Arkansas
4 – Nevada
5 – Hawaii
6 – Oregon
7 – Missouri
8 – New York
9 – Alaska
Please note that I like all of the musics nearly equally, it’s just some are
slightly better than others.
OVERALL GAME RATINGS
Graphics - 10
These graphics are so wonderfully pleasing and so perfect...you couldn't ask
for any better! By far the best looking racing game of all time for Game
Boy. Even the menus and the selection screens are fun to look at. I
especially enjoy the level backgrounds. Quite aesthetically pleasing.
Gameplay - 9.5
This game is so easy to use, you can pick it up and play it right out of the
box. Plus, the difficulty levels keep you playing for a long time. This
game raises the bar for racing games. The onyl reason gameplay gets a 9.5
is because there is no 2-player mode. Had there been one, this game would
have gotten an easy 10. (maybe even 11...)
Sound - 10
The music of Wacky Races is so fun to listen to, sometimes I hook up my
headphones, turn on time trial, and just listen! The sound effects are
likewise superb. Easily a 10 in the sound department.
OVERALL - 9.8
I just can't get enough of this game. There are plenty of racers, plenty of
tracks, and the endurance mode alone is enough to entertain me for hours.
Infogrames has touched the quick.
