1. STORY

Reploids are dropping left and right, seemingly due to a loss of their "souls."
X and Zero are dispatched to solve the problem, and face some old friends from
MMX, MMX2, and MMX3 along the way. (NOTE: This story takes place between
MegaMan X3 and X4.)

2. GAME BASICS

Unlike the first MegaMan X-treme, this game will ONLY work on Game Boy Color or
Game Boy Advance systems.

Controls:

The gameplay is fairly simple:

D-Pad: Move left or right, or up or down ladders
A: Jump
B: Fire (hold to charge); Punch (if you're in a robot walker)
Down + A (or tap Forward twice): Dash
Select: Switch Weapons (X)/Switch Characters (depending on setting in the
Options menu)
Start: Menu

After you get the Legs Upgrade, press A twice to air-dash, or press Up + A in
mid-air to air-dash straight up with X.

Save Points:

A few times in each level, you'll come across small gray platforms. When you
cross them, the game will auto-save. Also, you won't be able to go back through
the area you came from.

3. CHARACTERS

X - MegaMan X. The hero of the story is a powerful robot - the last one built
by the late Dr. Light. X is now a Maverick Hunter, dedicated to bringing down
'bots gone berserk.

ZERO - X's friend, who just happens to be the last creation of Dr. Wily (the
evil Doc created him as a foil to Dr. Light's MegaMan X project). Although
originally a Maverick himself, Zero was defeated by Sigma (who was a Maverick
Hunter at the time - see MegaMan X4 on PlayStation for full details). Zero was
reprogrammed, and now hunts Mavericks alongside X.

IRIS - A communications officer at Maverick Hunter HQ. She acts as X and Zero's
"spotter," like Roll in the MegaMan Legends series.

BERKANA - A research & development robot who's damaged the Reploids' DNA.

GARETH - A robotic knight who's out to destroy X and Zero.

SIGMA - X's archnemesis. No matter how many times X destroys him, Sigma always
comes back for more.

Strategies:

NOTE: If no specific weapon/strategy for Zero is listed, then just use your
Z-Saber.

Skull Hovercraft - As with most opening MMX bosses, this thing is a joke. Just
dash under it, jump up and fire at its mouth. Repeat until it's destroyed. When
it spits out little robots, blast them. If it spits out a spike ball, dodge it.
Avoid the wide blue laser it fires, if it survives that long.

Neon Tiger - Stay on the ground, and dash under him when he jumps towards you.
When he's on the wall, blast him while dodging him energy bursts. Later, he'll
do a Wolverine-style charge with his claws. Jump off the wall to avoid it. If
you've got the Tornado Fang, you'll kill him in no time, as the three drills
will hit him repeatedly. Zero's Drill Crush works well, too, if you catch Neon
Tiger on the way down from a jump.

Launch Octopus - Use the Ray Claw right away to slice off his tentacles. If you
don't, he can form a tornado which he'll catch you in, then drain your life!
While his tentacles are exploding, blast him repeatedly with the Tri-Thunder.
Then just stay on the opposite side of the screen from him, and keep jumping
and firing, which will hit Launch Octopus as well as take out the missiles he
fires at you.

Flame Mammoth - He's faster than he was in MMX. When he jumps towards you, fire
off the Marine Tornado, and you'll hit him in midair. With Zero, you can use
the Fish Fang to hit him from a distance. Dodge his fireballs when he shoots
them at you.

Volt Catfish - As he jumps around the room, slap him with the Ray Claw. When he
fires his Tri-Thunder at you, jump off the wall to dodge it (or air-dash, if
you can).

Wire Sponge - A real joke. Wait until he stops spinning his wire blades, then
burn him with the Fire Wave. After his life goes below 50%, he'll turn bright
red and cause lightning to crash down from the ceiling. Dodge it, and burn him
when he jumps.

Overdrive Ostrich - He'll either charge at you, then jump at you from the
background, or jump and fire off his Sonic Slicers. Either way, dodge his
attacks and use the Strike Chain. With Zero, you can try to hit him with
Lightning.

Blast Hornet - A pale comparison to his MMX3 self. Hit him repeatedly with
Sonic Slicer, and he won't have time to attack you. Otherwise, destroy the
small bees he sends out, and jump over him when he tries to sting you.

Tunnel Rhino - Stick to the walls, and use the Homing Bee or the Earth Geyser
to pick this guy off. Just make sure to jump to the opposite side when he
charges at the wall you're clinging to. Dodging his drills and charges are much
easier, as he's a lot slower than he was in MMX3.

Velguader - Sigma's irritating pet. He's more difficult than he was in MMX, but
he's still not too much of a challenge. He'll either jump at you from the
walls, fire off electricity, or breathe out a rising fire attack. Use the Ray
Claw or Drill Crush to shut him down for good.

Sphinx Tank - This thing is a real pain. You'll need to destroy both faces,
which each have half of the energy bar for life. AVOID THE DRILL AT ALL COSTS!
It'll deal out massive damage; stay on the floating platform as much as you
can.

Berkana (X only) - She'll fire out a few different projectiles. One is just a
standard spiked ball. The "A" projectile will make you unable to jump for a
while, so just dodge her and wait it out. The "B" projectile will make you
unable to fire, plus, Berkana will turn the floors and walls into spikes!
Luckily, a small platform appears for you to stand on. Of course, she'll try to
knock you off of it with ice shards, but just dodge them. The X-Buster or the
Sonic Slicer should get her out of your way.

Gareth (Zero only) - This guy's a real jerk. He'll jump off the screen,
throwing large energy axes at you. Dash to avoid them. After he throw four of
them, he'll come back down. If you try to attack, he'll put up a shield and
axe, which will damage you instead! Wait until he jumps to throw an axe
directly at you, then dash under him and slash him in the back. It'll take a
while, but you'll finally destroy him.

Sigma (1st form) - He'll dash at you Wolverine-style, or send out electrical
bolts. Either way, air-dash over him, and use the Marine Tornado or Sonic
Slicer.

Sigma (2nd form) - Luckily, your energy will refill before this fight (your Sub
Tanks won't, however). This fight is just plain RIDICULOUS. You'll need to use
both X and Zero here. Sigma's monstrous armor will fire energy balls all over
the place. If his armor is gold or blue, use X, and air-dash straight up to
blast the face on the front of the armor. If his armor turns red, switch to
Zero, then jump and slash him in the knee repeatedly. Four hits on either color
armor will cause Sigma to appear frozen in midair briefly. NAIL HIM, because
that's the only time you can take energy off his life bar! After that, the
armor reappears, and the fun starts again. He'll gain some new attacks after
he's got less than half his life left - like ramming you with an energy shield
that you can't dodge; or firing that shield at you (dash under it); or firing a
beam cannon at the ground (dash under it when he pauses briefly); or jumping
offscreen and slamming into the ground, temporarily immobilizing you (do NOT
get caught under him!). Be patient, and use your Sub Tanks, and you'll
eventually defeat him.

Boss Attack Mavericks:

Spark Mandrill - No Shotgun Ice to freeze him this time around. Dash or jump to
avoid him and his electricity, and slap him with the Strike Chain.

Storm Eagle - Dash towards him when he flaps his wings or fires his Storm
Tornado at you, and use the Sonic Slicer. If he fires his little birds at you,
just jump over them and continue your assault. He'll also fly off the screen,
then dive at you, so jump out of the way.

Flame Stag - When he jumps from wall to wall, catch him in midair with the
Marine Tornado. After you hit him, jump to avoid his fireball attacks.

Chill Penguin - Stay on the wall, and burn him with the Fire Wave after he
stops spitting ice crystals at you. If he jumps onto the ring in the ceiling,
knock him off immediately! He'll also make ice statues, or dive attack you. If
you're on the wall, you won't have a problem.

Wheel Gator - Stay on the wall, and avoid his buzzsaws. Keep moving so that he
won't catch you in his jaws when he surfaces. Blast him with the Tornado Fang,
or drop him with the Drill Crush if you're using Zero.

Morph Moth - He'll appear in chrysalis form first. Smack him with the Ray Claw
repeatedly, avoiding the junk sprays. After his life goes below half, he'll
appear in full moth form. Dodge his powder attacks, and continue using the Ray
Claw. He'll pause for a minute to fire a beam out, but you can jump to dodge
it.

Magna Centipede - Use a Homing Bee immediately to knock off Magna Centipede's
tail. He'll start teleporting around the room; use the Bees to damage him, and
keep moving to avoid his shuriken attacks.

Armored Armadillo - The Tri-Thunder will shock the armor right off of this guy.
After that, continue electrocuting him. Sticking to the wall to avoid his slow
shots works very well, since the Tri-Thunder is a spread shot. If you're using
Zero, you're all set - Zero's Z-Saber can penetrate Armored Armadillo's armor
anyway! Slash him to bits.

Weapon Descriptions - X:

Ray Claw

Normal - An arc of energy appears in front of X, and stays there until it hits
an enemy. Similar to the Slash Claw from MM7.
Charged - Same thing as the Ray Splasher from MMX3. X fires out a short burst
of energy in a spread pattern.

Marine Tornado

Normal - X creates a vertical tornado wherever he's standing on the screen.
Just like the charged version of the Storm Tornado from MMX.
Charged - X fires out 4 mechanical fish.

Fire Wave

Normal - A basic fireball attack.
Charged - Giant fireballs rain down all over the screen.

Tri-Thunder

Normal - A spread pattern of three electricital spheres.
Charged - X lets loose with a burst of electricital spheres in all directions.

Strike Chain

Normal - A short-range chain stretches out.
Charged - Same as above, but more powerful and with longer reach.

Sonic Slicer

Normal - A small spinning energy blade fires out and bounces off walls.
Charged - Same as MMX2. A small blade fires up, and a bunch of large blades
come back down.

Homing Bee

Normal - A bee appears, and locks onto whatever enemy is on the screen.
Charged - A rotating shield of bees.

Tornado Fang

Normal - X will fire out three powerful drills. They'll pause at first, then
take off across the screen.
Charged - A large drill will appear on the end of X's X-Buster, which he can
tear apart enemies with.

Giga Crush

Requires Body Upgrade. As X takes damage, the energy bar for this weapon will
fill up. Once it's full, X can expel the accumulated energy, damaging
everything on the screen.

Weapon Descriptions - Zero:

NOTE: Zero has only ONE energy bar that he can use for special weapons. Not all
of them use energy, however.

Rising - (Up + B) Zero jumps and slashes straight up. Uses no energy.

Fish Fang - (Up + B in mid-air) Zero throws two mechanical fish at an angle.

Fire Wave - (Down + B) Zero sends out a wave of flames.

Tri-Thunder - Zero punches the ground, sending out balls of electricity.

Lightning - Bolts of lighting rain down on random parts of the screen.

Dash - Zero power-dashes at the enemy and ends with a powerful slice.

Earth Geyser - Zero strikes the ground, and the resulting earthquake damages
all enemies on the screen.

Drill Crush - (Down + B in mid-air) Zero stabs downward with his Beam Saber.
Uses no energy.

Final Attack - Requires Arm Upgrade. Zero does a double slash followed by an
uppercut, then teleports back in.

5. HEART TANK/SUB TANK/CAPSULE LOCATIONS

Neon Tiger Stage:

Heart Tank - When you get into the Ride Armor, at one point you'll see two
breakable blocks, one above the other. Jump up to break the top one, then jump
out of the armor to grab the Heart Tank.

Capsule - Head Upgrade. Towards the end of the stage, after the floating
platforms, you'll see it behind a wooden wall. Burn it with the Fire Wave. The
Head Upgrade allows you to break blocks with your head.

Launch Octopus Stage:

Heart Tank - When you get to the screen with the whirpool generators, one of
them will put you within reach of the Tank, which is sitting on a small ledge
(across from a life refill). Having the Legs Upgrade will help you grab it.

Capsule - Body Upgrade. When you see missiles dropping down on you, head up and
destroy the ship firing them. Drop down and through the hole and fight the
mechanical serpent. After you destroy it, the capsule is on the far right. The
Body Upgrade allows X or Zero to take 50% less damage, and gives you X's Giga
Crush.

Flame Mammoth Stage:

Heart Tank - It's in the same place as it was in MMX. When you're on the screen
with all the miner robots, go all the way to the bottom right, and drop into
the lava to grab it. The lava won't kill you; if you have the Body Upgrade,
it'll barely do any damage at all.

Sub Tank - Again, it's in the same place as before. On the screen with the
miners, go up to the top left, then slide down the wall. You'll see the Sub
Tank behind some blocks that you can break if you've got the Legs Upgrade.

Capsule - Arm Upgrade. You'll need the Head and Legs Upgrades to get it. Before
you get to the fireballs that pop up from the lava, you'll see block in the
ceiling. Dash-jump off the platform on the right to grab onto the blocks, then
smash your way up to the capsule. (You can also air-dash straight up from
directly below the blocks.) The Arm Upgrade lets you charge special weapons,
and gives you an additional level of charging for your X-Buster. It gives Zero
his Final Attack.

Volt Catfish Stage:

Heart Tank - You can't miss it. It's in yet another rushing water section. Just
be careful...this water will kill you instantly if you touch it. Be quick!

Capsule - Legs Upgrade. Since his level is more like Toxic Seahorse's level
from MMX3, the capsule is where the Heart Tank was in MMX3. When you're in the
sewers, working your way up, go up through the waterfall when you reach the top
to find the capsule. The Legs Upgrade lets you break blocks with your feet and
air-dash. X can also air-dash straight up, but Zero cannot.

Wire Sponge Stage:

Heart Tank - You can't miss this one. Right when you teleport into the stage,
it's on the left side. Scale the wall to grab it.

Sub Tank - When you come to the small floating columns, work your way to the
top. The Sub Tank is in the platforms on the right side.

Capsule - Legs Upgrade. When you come to the large rising platforms, drop down
below the platforms. The capsule is down to the right. The Legs Upgrade lets
you break blocks with your feet and air-dash. X can also air-dash straight up,
but Zero cannot.

Overdrive Ostrich Stage:

Heart Tank - The second time you get on a Jet Bike, you can drop slightly after
you go up a large hill. You'll grab the Heart Tank below, but make sure you
smash the wall by dashing right afterwards!

Capsule - Head Upgrade. As you descend downward into the complex, you'll come
to a ledge with a ladder heading down. Dash-jump to the left off that ledge,
and grab the ladder hanging down. Head up the ladder to get to the capsule. The
Head Upgrade allows you to break blocks with your head.

Blast Hornet Stage:

Heart Tank - You'll come to an area with floating bees, but you'll see a ladder
heading down. Go down the ladder, and work your way across more bees to the
right to get the tank.

Capsule - Body Upgrade. When you're on the roof, and you come to a screen with
a flamethrower and two gun turrets, DO NOT DESTROY THEM. Go all the way to the
right, and destroy the wall with the Drill Crush to get the capsule. The Body
Upgrade allows X or Zero to take 50% less damage, and gives you X's Giga Crush.

Tunnel Rhino Stage:

Heart Tank - When you get in the Ride Armor, go all the way to the right,
avoiding the cracks in the ground. You'll see the Heart Tank sitting on a
ledge. Fly up there with the Ride Armor, then pop out to grab it.

Capsule - Arm Upgrade. You'll need Zero's Lightning attack to get it. When you
get in the Ride Armor, fall down through the cracks, and go all the way to the
left. You'll see two weird-looking blocks in your way. Zero's Lightning will
clear them out. The capsule awaits on the other side. The Arm Upgrade lets you
charge special weapons, and gives you an additional level of charging for your
X-Buster. It gives Zero his Final Attack.

Ninth Capsule -

Once again, X can learn the "Shotokan Moves" (from the Street Fighter series)
in this game, just like you could in the first MMXtreme. You first need to
acquire all Heart Tanks, Sub Tanks, and Upgrades. In Berkana's level, at the
last vertical passage with the electrified walls, X can air-dash through the
wall on the right at the very top (before the ladder). Inside, the Ninth
Capsule awaits. To use the Hadoken, charge up, then hold Down and release B. To
use the Shoryuken, charge up, then hold Up and release B. Both of these attacks
do considerable damage, if you manage to connect with them.

6. PARTS

As you collect DNA Souls throughout the game, you can give them to Iris to
build items. On the stage select screen, you can select "Part" to open up the
shop. NOTE: Not all Parts are available in all modes.

Common Parts (both X and Zero can use them):

Power Dash (1000) - Faster dashes.

Super Recover (200) - Life refills give you more energy.

Energy Saver (100) - Special weapons use half of their normal energy.

Barrier Extender (100) - You take less damage.

???

???

X Parts:

Buster+1 (200) - Your X-Buster becomes slightly more powerful.

Buster+2 (200) - Same as above, but even more powerful.

Speed Shot (100) - You can fire much faster.

Ultimate Buster (500) - Each shot is a charged X-Buster shot, but you can't
charge any further.

Hyper Charge (1000) - You charge a lot faster.

Armor Max (2000) - You automatically get all the armor upgrades.

Zero Parts:

Saber+1 (200) - A stronger Z-Saber.

Saber+2 (500) - Same as above, but even stronger.

Ultimate Saber (800) - A very powerful Z-Saber upgrade.

7. BOSS ATTACK MODE

Beat Extreme Mode to unlock "Boss Attack" mode, where you can go up against all
8 Mavericks, or the 8 Mavericks from the first MMXtreme game! You only get one
life, and you're timed. (Not that it really matters.) You won't get any of your
armor pieces or Sub Tanks, but you'll get all the Maverick weapons, Heart
Tanks, and Parts. But...if you hold Select while choosing Boss Attack, you WILL
get all of your armor pieces! Still no Sub Tanks, though. :) NOTE: Zero's
Z-Saber tears the Mavericks from MMXtreme to SHREDS! What a joke!

8. SECRETS/UNLOCKABLES

- Beat one Mission, and you can start the next Mission with all the weapons
from the previous one!
- Beat both X Mission and Zero Mission to unlock Extreme Mode.
- Beat Extreme Mode to unlock Boss Attack mode.
- X's Head Upgrade isn't exactly the most useful item in the game. In Extreme
Mode, skip getting it, then use Zero to get to the Arm Upgrade; switch back to
X, grab the Arm Upgrade, and you'll be just as powerful...except you can add 4
Parts instead of 2! You won't be able to get the Ninth Capsule, but it won't
matter. :)

9. NOTES

- What's Iris doing with the Maverick Hunters? Since this game takes place
before MMX4, it turns out that serving with the Hunters was her "training"
before she became a part of the Repliforce.
- Even if you tear off Launch Octopus' tentacles with the Ray Claw, when you
destroy him, the tentacles reappear as he's exploding!
