INTRODUCTION ----------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
This FAQ is for the North American version of Mega Man Xtreme 2, released on
September 6th, 2001 (?), was another hit in the worldwide-known Mega Man
series. Sub-titled "Soul Eraser", MMXT2 accomplishes the task of any other
Mega Man game on GBC or GB -- you get to fight four enemies at a time. One
does not have to waste a lot of time figuring out who to kill first and all
since there's only 4 robots as opposed to 8. Again, like any other GB Mega
Man, this has mavericks seen in a previous Mega Man games on other consoles.
MMXT2 takes 2 mavericks from Mega Man X, 2 from Mega Man X2 and 4 mavericks
from Mega Man X3, as an attempt to combine the stories with a twist.
Likewise, MMXT2 has plenty of hidden power-ups and a store where you can
spend your DNA Soul Chips on upgrades. You are also able to play as X OR ZERO!
I'm unsure if you could do this in MMXT, since I have not played it, but I
think it's pretty cool. Another nice thing for the newbie in all of us would
be the RAPID FIRE and AUTO CHARGE options! With these enabled, you will shoot
X Buster endlessly when holding down the B button. AUTO CHARGE will make it
so you will automatically charge up the X Buster.
=============================================================================
ZERO OR X? ------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
In the Japanese version, you were only able to play as Zero after completing
the X missions. This was changed in the North American version.
You're in a dilemma. You don't know whether to pick the famous blue bomber
or the Z Saber-equipped Zero. Here's my personal opinion:
Lowdown on X
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Blue Bomber is back in yet another hit game in the famous series. This
time, he carries his own set of advantages and disadvantages. It's entirely
up to you to decide who to use, but take the following into consideration.
Advantages
» The X Buster is a ranged attack
» He has many more bought upgrades
» He can Air Dash vertically
» He looks different after buying all of the upgrades
Disadvantages
» X cannot Air Dash without the upgrade
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lowdown on Zero
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seen since Mega Man X, Zero is equipped with the powerful Z Saber. He has
the ability to use this saber quickly when hitting B simultaneously.
Advantages
» Zero can execute a combo when tapping the B button simultaneously
» He can Air Dash at the start of the game
Disadvantages
» He has only three upgrades that are purchased
» He can't Air Dash vertically
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought playing with Zero was a lot easier than with X, but that's just
me. The ZeroMission mavericks seem to be a lot more easier than the
XMission mavericks. I recommend completing the ZeroMissions first. Just as
well, Berkana is a lot easier with Sonic Slicer (which you will have if you
do ZeroMissions first) than with any other weapon.
=============================================================================
FAQ -------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Here are some Questions you might have... I know that some of them are
ridiculous, but people may get stuck somewhere. :P
Q: I bought an item but it doesn't seem to have any effect!
A: This is because you need to equip it. Access the menu and select the icon
with a character and a box around it. Select the upgrade you want to
equip, press A, then select the arrow icon at the bottom.
Q: Why can't I switch characters?
A: In normal mode, you can't switch characters at all until you get to the
Reploid Research Center. When you can switch, it can be done by access the
menu and selecting the "Z<->X" icon, or by pressing SELECT if it's
configured in the buttons menu. In Extreme Mode, you can switch at any
time.
Q: How do I use Zero's weapons?
A: Zero's weapons are odd. Unlike X's weapons, most of Zero's weapons are
used by selecting them on the menu. When you do so, they're used
immediately. If you're using a weapon like Zero Final, make sure you're
in a good position before selecting it. Not all of Zero's skills are
used as soon as you select them. See the "Weaponry - Zero" section.
Q: How does Zero's meter work?
A: All of Zero's weapons, with the exception of Zero Final, are based on
ONE weapon meter. They all take from the same meter. I guess there's
an advantage to this: You don't have to switch weapons whenever you want
to pick up a weapon capsule.
Q: Where's the other Sub-Tank?
A: If you're in normal mode, you can only have one Sub-Tank per character.
They are located on Wire Sponge's and Flame Mammoth's stages.
Q: What happens if I equip more than one X Buster or Z Buster upgrade?
A: It makes you ultra powerful. They have some nice additive effects. You
can make some pretty cool combinations, my favourite is Ultimate Buster
+ Speed Shot for a quick and strong shot at once. Ultimate Saber + any
earlier Saber upgrade works nice as well, since the power is additive.
Q: If I only picked up upgrades with X in Normal mode, why does Zero have
them too?
A: In Normal mode, getting one upgrade gives it to both characters. This means
that if you're playing ZeroMissions and you switch to X, he will have the
parts Zero picked up. This can be very useful, as it saves you the time you
would have to take running around getting the second set of upgrades.
Q: I can't get past a pit because I can't jump far enough!
A: You need to execute a dash jump. Dash and then jump, or hit forward twice,
then A.
Q: How do skills like Drill Crush and Giga Crush work?
A: You need to be in mid-air and press Down + B. There are other skills that
are like this too. Be sure to try it on weapons that you can't get
working. With others you will need to be in mid-air and press Up + B.
Q: What do I do after I defeat Gareth or Berkana for the first time with a
character?
A: Save your game in a file. Iris will ask if you want to continue with the
other missions. Say yes. You will retain the DNA Soul Chips from the
previous missions as well as the weapons you obtained from bosses.
Q: What happens in Extreme Mode?
A: There are many changes. One of the most noticeable will be that enemies
are now a lot harder and that they have adapted new techniques. You will
notice that you can fight all 8 robots at any time and you can switch
between X and Zero at any time as well. Any parts or tanks picked up will
be applied only to the character who picks them up. =\ You are also able
to fight SIGMA in Extreme Mode!
Q: Why can't I see all the items at the store?
A: It depends on how many DNA Soul Chips you have. I've been told 4000 in
Extreme Mode will let you see all.
Q: What's this "Real Ultimate Buster" I keep hearing about in your FAQ???
A: Please see section 12 of the FAQ before bothering to e-mail me. It's
an idea to give X a very, very powerful buster by only collecting 3 of
his body parts so that you are able to equip 4 upgrade parts at one
time, rather than 2.
=============================================================================
WEAPONRY - ZERO -------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
A contributor sent in weapon descriptions for Zero, since a lot of Zero's
weapons are a bit odd. Thanks to The General (Lee III) for these
descriptions!
Z Saber: Manually executed, consumes no energy. Zero's default weapon, does
a three slash combo if the button is pressed fast enough, and can be upgraded
with items made from Maverick DNA. Naturally, it is only short range. Good
for whatever ails you.
Zero Final: Automatically executed when you return to the game after selecting
it, consumes a lot of energy. This is available to you when you get Zero's Arm
upgrade. Useful against ground enemies only.
Rising: Manually executed, consumes no energy. On the ground, press Up + B to
perform a rising upward slash.
Fish Fang: Manually executed, consumes energy. While in the air, press Up + B
to fire projectiles down and forwards from you.
Tri Thunder: Automatically executed, consumes energy. Zero shoots a series of
electrical energy balls upwards that fan outward from him.
Firewave: Manually executed, consumes energy. On the ground, press Down + B
to send out a horizontal wall of flame. How do you like your Mavericks?
Regular or extra crispy?
Lightning: Automatically executed, consumes energy. Zero summons lightning
bolts from above that never seem to go too far away from you, only good
in close quarters.
Earth G: Automatically executed, consumes energy. Zero kneels down and sends
a shock wave across the ground.
Dash: Automatically executed, consumes energy. Zero slides across the ground
and slashes anything in his path.
Drill Crush: Manually executed, consumes no energy. In the air, press Down +
B. Zero does a powerful downward stab.
=============================================================================
WEAPONRY - X ----------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
These descriptions were also sent in by a contributor. Thanks to Megaman
X for them!
Ray Claw: Again with the stupid short-range weapons. Charged is a bit less
useless... It's either supposed to be X3's Ray Splasher or Flashman's cannon
barrage after he uses the Time Stopper...
Tri Thunder: Compared to X3? It sucks. It's X1's E. Spark in a three-way
spread. The charged one's worse, as it's too random... It wants to be a Giga
Crush but falls flat...
Marine Tornado: Useful, but lame. Think: a weaker version of X1's charged
Storm T. The Marine Tornado's charged up spread shot sucks as well.
Fire Wave: Odd!!! Normally, it's like X1 on Snes's charged one, combined
with the Flame Blast from MM6. The charged shot sucks, however... Stupid A.
Crush reject... Don't use it. It's as pathetic as Lightning!
Strike Chain: Exactly like it was in X2, but it really stinks at grappling
to walls now, IF it can even do it at all anymore in here.
Sonic Slicer: The normal shot's now a little bigger and a LOT slower. To
make things worse, the charged version is no longer a full-screen effect.
Bomb Bee: Homing T., anyone? This ROCKS, period. Best of X's weapons here in
this game. The charged one's a forcefield, which is even better. You simply
MUST use the charged version at least ONCE!
Tornado Fang: WAY better than in X3! Unlike X3, where you have to ram the
button for the spread shot, here you only have to press the button ONCE for
that full three-drill spread! Forget the charged version, that's the same as
in X3 and is just as pointless. The normal one's the way to go!
=============================================================================
ITEM LOCATIONS --------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Both X and Zero have upgrades found throughout each stage. They are all
equally useful and will benefit your character. They are in order of how
maverick stages appear on the stage select screen.
=============================================================================
Zero's Equipment
=============================================================================
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leg Crush [FEET]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found on: Wire Sponge's Stage Required: ---
Location:
Once you get to the part of the stage where purple elevators are rising,
drop down the pit and hold right. You will fall onto a short platform which
leads to Dr. Light.
Effect:
This upgrade for Zero proves to be a bit useless, seeing as he already can
Mid-Air dash. However, this will enable him to break blocks below his feet
later in the game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Head Crush [HEAD]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found on: Overdrive Ostrich's Stage Required: ---
Location:
When you reach the end of the platform with all the sand whirlwinds that
kill you instantly, there should be a ladder going down. What you have to do
is Dash-Jump from it to the far left. You will see a long ladder going up.
You may need to Air Dash once to get closer to it, but once you're above it,
press up to latch on.
Effect:
Again, this upgrade is useless to an extent. It will allow Zero to break
blocks above him in late game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Armor Enhancement [BODY]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found on: Blast Hornet's Stage Required: Drill Crush
Location:
After the second save point, you will follow a long platform to the far
right. When you come to a screen with a spinning gun, one flamethrower
beside it, and another spinning gun on the far right, take out the first
gun and the flamethrower. Air dash over the second spinning gun and proceed.
You will come to three large blocks. Use Drill Crush on these by jumping
and pressing Down and B and you will see Dr. Light.
Effect:
Very nice to have. Decreases all damage taken by 50%.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zero Final [ARM]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found on: Tunnel Rhino's Stage Required: Lightning
Location:
After the second save point, hop into the robot armor. Collect the heart
tank (how to described below) and fall down the pit. Proceed to the left
past the purple enemy robots until you see two 1x1 blocks. Jump out of the
robot and use lightning to destroy them, then fall and you'll meet Dr. Light.
Effect:
Very effective on ANY enemy. It must hit something before it stops.
The problem is that it takes around 25 power bars to use it!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
X's Equipment
=============================================================================
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Air Dash & Leg Crush [FEET]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found on: Volt Catfish's Stage Required: ---
Location:
After the area with the pipes and running water, you'll reach a platform.
From this platform you'll see a waterfall. Dash jump onto the far left wall
and climb up to discover a capsule with Dr. Light in it.
Effect:
Allows X to dash left, right, and straight up as well as break blocks with
his legs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Head Crush [HEAD]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found on: Neon Tiger's Stage Required: Fire Wave
Location:
Since I'm sure you can't miss it, I'm not going to describe exactly how to
find it. You'll see it after you pass the section of the level with the
falling platforms. Stand on the last up/down green platform and use Fire
Wave on the wall.
Effect:
Allows X to break certain blocks with his head.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Armor Enhancement & Giga Crush [BODY]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found on: Launch Octopus' Stage Required: ---
Location:
When you get to the second area with the generators after the part with the
heart tank, you will notice missiles falling. Stand on top of the first
generator, rise up, and jump onto the green sub at the top. Kill it and when
you fall, take the route down rather than straight across. Kill the sea

Effect:

Charge Enhancement [ARM]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found on: Flame Mammoth's Stage Required: Head &
Leg Parts
Location:
After dropping down the pit following the first save point, proceed and watch
the ceiling. Sooner or later you'll notice an odd-looking part of the ceiling
with black blocks. Air Dash straight up to break the first few, then latch
onto the wall and keep climbing to break the rest.
Effect:
Allows X Buster to be further charged to shoot two charged shots. If B is
pressed consecutively when you're fully charged, a spread-shot will occur.
Allows you charge to every weapon.

Found on: Reploid Research Center 3 Required: Everything
Location:
When you come to the vertical-climbing part of the stage with the rockets
you are able to climb on and yellow fields on the walls, look closely at
the right side of the wall. Look past the yellow fields and directly at
the purple walls. Now keep climbing up. Right before you reach the ladder,
you will find a gray wall among all the purple walls. Now air dash into
it and you will go right through! Inside is a capsule.
Here's a diagram to better assist you in finding it:

HEART AND SUB-TANK LOCATIONS ------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
As in the Mega Man X series, heart tanks will substantially increase your
life. Both X and Zero start with 16 energy bars and obtaining a heart tank
will boost your energy by 2 bars. The following are in no particular order.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart Tank A - Wire Sponge
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Possibly the easiest finding in the game. Shortly after entering the stage,
climb up the left wall in the first room. You will reach a niche with a
hidden tank inside.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart Tank B - Overdrive Ostrich
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you ride the hover bike for the second time, you will be cutting through
gates. Get on the bike, cut through the first gate and make the jumps. You'll
reach a long platform. Once you get to the end of it, you'll notice a hidden
gate below. What you do is, instead of jumping from that platform to the
next, simply fall and you will run into the Heart Tank. Be ready to cut
through the nearby gate, as it's an easy way to die.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart Tank C - Blast Hornet
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After jumping past all the platform hornets, you'll come to a save point.
From there, proceed right and instead of jumping onto another hornet, fall.
You will fall onto a platform. Go down the ladder and air dash onto the
hornet, then jump right and right again to obtain your third Heart Tank.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart Tank D - Tunnel Rhino
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the second save point, hop into the robot armor. Destroy the 3 or 4
purple robots you encounter, but don't fall below! When you're at a plateau
where you can see the pit below with the cracked ground, use the robot armor
to float up. You'll see the heart tank. While in the air, jump out of the
robot armor and onto the platform with the tank. Don't worry, the armor will
still be there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart Tank E - Neon Tiger
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the first save point, hop into the robot armor. Continue along the
path, breaking the blocks that may come in your way. At one point, you will
come to two blocks. Jump and hover with your robot armor and destroy the
upper block. Jump out of the robot armor and up the wall to obtain the heart
tank.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart Tank F - Launch Octopus
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You're going to need X's Air Dash to do this. When you come to the part of
the stage with the generators that make you rise to the surface, proceed to
the third generator. Rise as much as possible, Air Dash vertically and hold
down-right to get on the platform with the tank.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart Tank G - Flame Mammoth
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you come to the screen with the robots that throw miner's picks at you
and the fireballs blast through yellow platforms, proceed to the far right of
the bottom set of platforms. Once you go as far as you can, you'll see the
top of the heart tank from above. Fall into the lava and grab it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heart Tank H - Volt Catfish
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the third part of the screens with the waves of water, you will notice the
heart tank at the bottom of the screen right away. It's all a matter of
timing. The split second you see the water stop, drop down and quickly go
around, killing the crab that gets in your way.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub Tank A - Wire Sponge
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another easy find. After coming to the rockets that hover up and down above
spikes, climb onto the first one you see. Then jump onto and climb up the
wall you come to. Head right a screen and you'll see it resting on the upper
platform.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub Tank B - Flame Mammoth
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After finding the heart tank on this stage, make your way to the very top of
the same room with the yellow platforms. When you reach the uppermost
conveyor belt, dash jump to the far left. You'll hit a wall, and if you have
the legs upgrade, you'll break through it. Inside is the sub tank.
=============================================================================
ORDER OF ROBOTS -------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Unlike your typical Mega Man game, there are many paths to follow. Here's
what I did and found it relatively easy:
ZERO MISSIONS:
Wire Sponge -> Overdrive Ostrich -> Blast Hornet -> Tunnel Rhino
X MISSIONS:
Neon Tiger -> Launch Octopus -> Flame Mammoth -> Volt Catfish
EXTREME:
Neon Tiger -> Volt Catfish -> Launch Octopus -> Flame Mammoth ->
Wire Sponge -> Overdrive Ostrich -> Blast Hornet -> Tunnel Rhino

STAGE MAPS AND INFORMATION --------------------------------------------------

I suppose this is what one would call a walkthrough of a Mega Man game, since
describing exactly what to do in each part of the level would be tedious.
Use this part of the guide mainly so you won't miss any items.
** These maps are in no way 100% perfect. I've tried my best to made sure
that they are accurate.

Since I have found this level to be quite difficult, I marked off specific
sections with letters.
[a] When you get around this area, fall with caution. By this, I mean hold
down-left immediately after dropping from the ledge so you'll grasp onto

on the far left, glide down the wall some more, and mid-air dash to the
far right.
[b] Switch to X here. You'll need to dash directly up to get on the side of

[c] Here you'll need X again for his long range X Buster. You can't get

STRATEGIES ------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Here are detailed strategies for all bosses, including how to beat all of
them with the Z Saber or X Buster (respective of X/Zero Missions) You'll
find detailed strategies in the Using Z Saber or X Buster sections while
the strategies with obtained weapons will be shorter.
*** When I say Extreme only, I mean either Extreme or after you've completed
missions with one character, allowing you to go onto the other
character's missions with the learned weapons still equipped as well as
the DNA Soul chips.
=============================================================================
Wire Sponge
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Fire Wave (EXT)
With Fire Wave:
Fire Wave will stun Wire Sponge upon impact as well as take out a nice chunk
of his life. All you have to do is shoot it, wait until he stops flashing
white, and repeat.
Using Z Saber:
Wire Sponge can be a bit difficult at first, but once you get down his basic
attacks, it's all a matter of getting close enough to attack. Wire Sponge
has two attacks in his "normal" mode.
The first attack is when Wire Sponge swings a chain and throws it in your
direction. If the chain connects with a wall, he will retract himself to the
chain, which is particularly dangerous if you're in the middle. The chain
itself is of no harm to Zero, only the spike at the end is. When Wire Sponge
throws his chain at you, jump in between him and the end of the chain. You
will be able to get one or two hits in. If the chain connects with a wall,
climb that wall and air dash to the other side of the room.
The second is when Wire Sponge swings his chain vertically. He connects to
the ceiling, opens up his skull, and fires out miniature bombs in your
direction. What you need to do is, for each bomb, jump over it towards Wire
Sponge and slash. When you land, another bomb will already be out, so quickly
move, jump, and slash again. Repeat. Occasionally, the bombs will grow into
annoying spikes. Be sure to watch out for this.
When about half of Wire Sponge's life is depleted, he'll go ballistic. He
will turn red and start using a new attack. The catch is, you cannot hit him!
He'll stomp the ground and cause lightning to fall. The lightning will not
hit you if you are next to or climbing up a wall, so make sure you're near
one when he does this.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Overdrive Ostrich
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Lightning (EXT)
With Lightning:
Piece of cake. Whenever Overdrive Ostrich is on screen, quickly go to the
menu and select lightning, then pound away with it. It seems that with a Z
Saber upgrade equipped, the Z Saber itself will do more than or equal to the
amount of damage done by Lightning.
Using Z Saber:
Still quite easy! Position yourself before the clearing in the bumpy path
so if Overdrive Ostrich dashes at you, you can jump up and Air Dash. If he
bounces at you, run under him where the clearing is.
Overdrive Ostrich has three attacks, and they're all physical and barbaric. :)
What I mean by this is that he just dashes at you with his body, neglecting to
use a weapon of any sort. He will throw the odd boomerang now and again, but
that's no problem.
His first attack would be when you see his shadow in the background desert.
You'll hear a sound and Overdrive Ostrich will come crashing down from the top
of the screen. What I recommend is standing in the middle of the clearing on the
right. The second you see him, move out of the way, slash him, and move left
onto the hill.
His second attack consists of the Ostrich dashing at you, head first. Stand on
the hill. When he comes rushing at you, jump over him and slash away from behind
The third is a lot more annoying simply because it's hard to avoid. Overdrive
Ostrich will bounce at you until he's off the screen. Position yourself in the
clearing. When he's bouncing, don't jump! You'll end up getting hit. Just run
underneath him and slash when he lands.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Blast Hornet
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Sonic Slicer (EXT)
With Sonic Slicer:
Since Sonic Slicer has a tendency to home in on Blast Hornet and cripple
his wings, causing him to fall flat on the ground, you'll be done with him
in no time. Upon going in, shoot him with a single Sonic Slicer. He will
fall to the ground. From here you can hit him again, but he will recover
nonetheless. Once he's back in the air, shoot him to stun him again. Repeat
the cycle.
Using Z Saber:
By now, you should at least have the +1 upgrade. This WILL make a big
difference. The less hits you have to dish out, the less hits you'll end up
receiving. Blast Hornet has two basic, easy-to-avoid attacks.
The first is when he shoots out two miniature hornets. They home in on you
and can be a pest if you don't rid of them immediately. Just slash them
down as soon as possible and you'll be good to go. Right after killing the
hornets is a good chance to get a slash in on him, just be sure to flee the
second he pops out his stinger.
The second is where you'll be able to get some good hits on Blast Hornet.
He'll show off his stinger and come crashing towards you. The catch is the
attack is only diagonal -- either from top right to bottom left, or top
left to bottom right. This is why you can easily avoid it. When you see
his stinger, climb up the closest wall. When he comes at you with it, air
dash off the wall and get a slash in when you land.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Tunnel Rhino
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Earth G.
With Earth G.:
Easy! Climb up a wall and stay there. When Tunnel Rhino comes charging into
the wall, right before he hits, jump into the air and press the Start
button. Select Earth G. This will damage him quite a bit so repeat this
process.
Using Z Saber:
Another repetitive process. Again, I recommend that you have the +1 Saber
upgrade to make things easier. Tunnel Rhino has two attacks. To avoid them
requires some speed and quick reflexes.
The first is the most common. Tunnel Rhino will immediately charge you. If
you are climbing up the wall, you will fall down as soon as he hits. What
you have to is wait until he gets very close, then air dash, fall, and
slash him from behind. Dash jump onto the opposite wall just in case he
decides to ram you again. If he does, repeat the process.
|
The other attack isn't any problem at all. He just shoots a Tornado Fang
which you can easily avoid by climbing the wall.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Neon Tiger
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Tornado Fang (EXT)
With Tornado Fang:
He'll be hopping around like an idiot, sometimes he'll even stop in the
middle of the screen. Shoot a Tornado Fang and he'll try to climb a wall,
but since the Tornado Fang keeps going, he will likely land again and you'll
hit him. :) Repeat the process.
Using X Buster:
Still fairly easy. An X Buster upgrade will be of help, preferably the
Ultimate Buster with Speed Shot. Neon Tiger follows a basic attack pattern
of jumping to a wall, shooting small balls of light a lot slower than he
did in Mega Man X3 and then falling and dashing to the opposite wall. What
you have to do is avoid the balls when he shoots them by dashing or running
underneath them. When he comes down from the wall, blast away with your X
Buster. The process is repetitive from here, since Neon Tiger won't change
his attack pattern -- Until his life is low...
When his life reaches about 30%, he'll go ballistic. He'll break out his
claw and dash towards X. You'll have to notice this fast, run to the
nearest wall and climb up. If you don't have Air Dash yet, you'll have to
do a normal jump over him, as he'll come up the wall with his claw as well.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Launch Octopus
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapons: Ray Claw
Sonic Slicer (EXT)
Tornado Fang (EXT)
With Ray Claw:
He is annoying. Right when you go in and battle initiates, start using Ray
Claw. Don't waste it -- You can't hit him while he's flashing. If you do
run out switch to Sonic Slicer if you have it. Both Sonic Slicer and Ray
Claw work in the same way. The difference is simply that Ray Claw stuns him
while he has his tentacles. So keep using it and he'll lose his tentacles
and take on a different strategy. He'll be jumping around and throwing
torpedos. Each time he lands, use Ray Claw and use it on the torpedos as
well.
Using X Buster:
This will be even more annoying than the above. Launch Octopus can use a
vacuum-like whirlwind attack which will suck you in regardless of where you
are. Keep dashing away when he does this, running won't cut it. Other than
the whirlwind, Launch Octopus seems to like to bounce around and throw
torpedos at you. He won't lose his tentacles when using the X Buster, so he
will just keep acting the same way until you blow him up.
The torpedos are generally easy to destroy. A few quick shots from the X
Buster at ground level will stop any that are heading right for you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Flame Mammoth
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapons: Marine Tornado
Fish Fang (EXT)
With Marine Tornado:
Whenever you see Flame Mammoth jump into the air, immediately use Marine
Tornado. This will stop him in his tracks. He'll continue to jump at you
like the mindless robot he is, so keep repeating this process.
Using X Buster:
You'll get this done with some basic strategy. Flame Mammoth has two real
attacks. Other than using them, he'll howl into the air, which will change
the path of the conveyor belt around.
His most common attack is just jumping around and trying to flatten you to
pieces. When he lands on the belt, X will be stunned for around 3 seconds.
If you go to the very top of any wall, you're completely out of reach. The
mammoth cannot knock you down unless he gets a direct jump from
underneath you. Use this to your advantage. A good strategy is to stay
within a screen's range of him so that you can see him. When he jumps
at you, dash towards him. You'll be stunned for a few seconds, but right
after you're back to normal, turn and blast at him until he jumps again.
Occasionally, Flame Mammoth will shoot out some weak fireballs that
land where you were when he shot them. They're quite easy to avoid,
just stick to the walls.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Volt Catfish
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Ray Claw
With Ray Claw:
Another very easy battle. Ray Claw will stun him, causing him to sit there
and writhe in pain! After that, it's all timing. When you see him come back
to normal, slash him again with Ray Claw. If you don't do it in time, he'll
jump and probably land on you.
Using X Buster:
I really don't recommend it. Volt Catfish has a very manipulative battle
style, which is sure to take you down rather quickly. He tends to jump
around and pound the floor, causing small bursts of Tri Thunder to spit
out. This will give you a good chance to hit him, but if you stay close to
him for too long, he'll open his mouth and it'll act like a vacuum. If
you try to dash or air dash away, two conveniently placed spires will zap
you repeatedly. Shooting him while this happens proves to do damage, but
doesn't keep him from going on.
Oh, and when you get him weak, he'll go insane and spit out triads of Tri-
Thunder ;) I can't help you much here, I don't see why you wouldn't have
Ray Claw by now, anyway. :P
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Sigma's Pet
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapons: Drill Crush
Tornado Fang (EXT)
With Drill Crush:
I'm not too confident about this strategy, as it can be far annoying and
it's generally easy to get hit by the dog's unpredictable motion. What you
do is wait until the dog starts jumping from wall to wall, rising, and then
coming back down. When he lands, jump and Drill Crush like there's no
tomorrow. Repeat the process.
With Tornado Fang:
Works quite well, since it continues through the body of the robot. Takes
out a large chunk of the dog's life for every hit, so you'll have no
trouble at all. Whenever you get a chance to, such as when the dog is idle
on the floor, blast him with Tornado Fang. Read below for more strategy.
With Z Saber and Zero Final:
By now, you should have a Saber upgrade. It's simply a prerequisite, as it
makes things a lot easier! Once you come into the room , the dog will howl
and battle will initiate. Hit start quickly and select Zero Final. This
will take out a good third of its life, which is a nice start.
The dog has three attacks in addition to his constant motion. The dog will
repeatedly leap from wall to wall, hitting anything in its path. You'll
have to use your own judgement on whether to jump or dash underneath here.
What I do is stay at the top of a wall. When he starts rising from the
leaps, I air dash to the other side of the screen. Be careful, as he will
likely land there because of his pattern. Once he does land, slash away.
Occasionally, he will spit out a group of electrical orbs. He usually does
this when you're near him attacking, so be sure to retreat after doing so.
The orbs usually come in sets of four.
Finally, the dog seems to take a liking to throwing up fire. ;) From time
to time, he will vomit a line of fire that arcs and then blasts in a
vertical pattern. Easy to avoid, so I wouldn't worry about it.

=============================================================================
Mecha Tank
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Drill Crush
Fish Fang (EXT)
Tornado Claw (EXT)
With Drill Crush:
Like the Z Saber, the tank will be difficult whether you use this or not.
Personally, I prefer the Z Saber over this, since with a small upgrade, it
can do more than or equal to the amount of damage Drill Crush does. The
strategy behind this is to get near the bottom face, jump above it, Drill
Crush. Land, hit the spike to move the tank back to a preferable distance,
and repeat. Once you knock that face out, I would switch to X, jump on the
rocket, and blast away at the upper face.
Using Z Saber/X Buster:
There's no real strategy. The tank is extremely hard and you WILL take hits.
It constant shoots purple orbs of energy from the upper head while advancing
forward. When you hit the lower head, it launches a blue rocket into the air
that will home in on you. You can expect to lose at least half of your life
as Zero, since there's no range.
The only thing I can say is a MUST is a Saber upgrade. Saber upgrades
significantly increase your damage. You should follow a basic strategy of
jumping, hitting the lower face, and then pushing the tank back by hitting
the spike. A full sub tank might be a great help in this battle, as you will
be taking damage. Once you take out the bottom face, you should switch to X.
This is why I say buy an upgrade for the X Buster as well, since this will
make things a lot easier. Turn rapid fire or auto charge on and blast away.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Gareth
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Z Saber
With Z Saber:
Gareth has a rather odd attack pattern and an annoying, impenetrable armor.
He focuses on one attack in many variations.
Gareth will either jump into the middle of the screen and throw tridents at
you or jump off the screen and throw them from above. If he throws them
from above, timing is critical. The tridents fall are thrown at ~1.6
seconds apart. You should be able to see it falling from the top of the
screen and dash out of the way. Climbing a wall won't help at all, as they
can still hit you.
Here's the lowdown on strategy. For some odd reason, the Z Saber has a
variant damage when inflicted upon Gareth. I have not yet confirmed why this
is, but I'll try to find out. The only good chance to hit Gareth will be
when he's at the center of the screen throwing tridents. As he's about to
throw one, dash underneath, jump up from the opposite side of where you were
and slash at him. He will usually be in pain and jump back into the unseen
parts of the screen like the pansy he is. ;)
Never attack Gareth head on. He will block it with a plasma shield and a
flashing trident will appear. After a few seconds, it will fire at you. The
process I said above seems to work quite well, though being a bit
repetitive. Another thing you can do is do what I said in the above
paragraph, except when you jump to attack him, jump and select Zero Final.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Berkana
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Ray Claw
Sonic Slicer (EXT)
Real Ultimate Buster (See S12)
Strategy B, Submitted by Lee Winters III
*** This strategy is only for using the "Real" Ultimate Buster. For those
of you who do not know what this is, see Section 12 of the FAQ.
With Real Ultimate Buster:
"Jump up and shoot her directly every chance you get. If she releases an "A",
touching it will disable your A button. The same idea applies to her
releasing a "B". Your X Buster will now easily destroy them making life a
little less stressful. Berkana won't last long against your fire, and
probably won't get a chance to change the room if you destroy all her shots."
With Ray Claw/Sonic Slicer:
Sonic Slicer works a lot better than Ray Claw. It seems as though Berkana
can change her weakness when she's hit with Ray Claw. Ray Claw appears to
only be able to do damage against her once. Then she changes her weakness
and you're thrown off. This is where you equip the Sonic Slicer and use it
to finish her off with ease. However, if you don't have it:
With X Buster:
Get ready for one hell of a battle. Berkana can manipulate the atmosphere
of the room in any way she wishes -- She can turn any wall into a line of
spikes, she can disable your ability to jump, she can disable your ability
to shoot -- and you can't do anything about it, other than decode her
small set of attacks.
Equip the X Buster and drop into her domain. You should be able to climb
up a wall and get a few shots in on her before she shoots out an "A"
followed by a "B". Keep firing charged shots. If you get hit by a blast
from the A, the wall will change to spikes and you'll not be able to jump.
If you get hit by a blast from the B, the floor changes to spikes and you
can't shoot.
If she disables your jump, good luck. All I can recommend is running like
hell. The same applies if she disables your blasts. Remember that the
effect of the A and B is only for a limited period and will eventually
run out. It's just a matter of avoiding her when you can't do anything.
The "A"s and "B"s CAN be destroyed. Don't hesitate to do so. All I can
say is shoot whenever you get the chance and run like hell whenever you
cannot.

=============================================================================
Sigma 1
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: Tornado Fang
Sonic Slicer
Dash
Real Ultimate Buster (See S12)
Hopefully, you will still have some energy left in Tornado Fang
after the battles with the mavericks. You don't stand a chance with your
X Buster, since each will take out a mere 1 bar of his life.
As soon as battle initiates, Sigma will slash at you like Neon Tiger does
when he's annoyed. Jump on the wall and stay around it. Five purple orbs
of energy will appear above Sigma's head and then fire at you, one at a
time. Wait until two of them have been used, then fall down and blast him
with everything you've got. You need to stay away from the ground at all
costs, as he will claw you like there's no tomorrow. After the orbs are
depleted, he will go back to his usual attack mode of clawing and throwing
two purple orbs towards the wall that you're on.
Tornado Fang is particularly useful because it continues through his body
and has continuous damage. I'm sure there are other weapons that are useful.
I lacked the weapon energy to try them all :(
Stay on a wall at all times. When he's busy shooting purple orbs at you,
air dash to the far opposite side and land on the floor. Shoot your Tornado
Fang and retreat back up the nearest wall. When Sigma's about 1/2 of his
life, he will start appearing at the top of the screen and swooping down
on you with his claws. Just keep running around the ground to avoid this.
When he does land, go back to the above strategy.
Strategy B, Submitted by MASTERNO
*** I haven't tested it (I no longer have the game) but it sounds like it
works a lot better than my strategy above.
"I find it a lot easier, and faster, to use the Marine Tornado while
clinging onto one of the walls, dashing to the other side when he does
his five orb shots and dodging them and climbing back up when he does his
claw slash. Using the 1/2 item, it only took 1/3-1/2 the energy bar of
the M. Tornado."
Strategy C, Submitted by Lee Winters III
*** This strategy is only for using the "Real" Ultimate Buster. For those
of you who do not know what this is, see Section 12 of the FAQ.
With Real Ultimate Buster:
"You said about not standing a chance with your X Buster since it will take
only 1 bar off of Sigma's life. Now it'll rip him a new one!!! Assuming you
can maneuver well enough with X to prevent being clawed to death, you can
take Sigma down in 15 to 20 seconds, maybe less depending on your abilities.
His second form won't be near as short, but with all 3 of Zero's saber
upgrades, you've definitely got the firepower needed. Just use the X Buster in
place of the recommended special weapon, the same strategy applies."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Sigma 2
=============================================================================
Suggested Weapon: X: Tornado Fang Zero: Rising
Ultimate Buster, Buster+2 F. Fang
Real Ultimate Buster (See S12)
WHOA. Check out the size of that thing... It's going to be one tough battle.
At least it looks like it. Sigma's energy balls really don't do a lot of
damage, especially with X's or Zero's armor upgrade. They take out 1 bar.
It seems that Sigma's colour-coded this time around. A gold or blue
Sigma armor means to switch to X, while a Red Sigma armor means break out
the Z Saber. When you're using X, air dash straight up and fire at the
tiger-like face. He will soon change colours and it will get more difficult.
You won't be able to air dash straight up if he's red because of the energy
pellets that appear to the side. Red Sigma will occasionally jump and come
crashing down, stunning you temporarily. When he is red, switch to Zero and
slash at the knee that sticks out. You don't necessarily have to use Zero,
but it seems to be a lot easier to hit Sigma with him.
At around 12 bars of Sigma's life being depleted, he will change his mode
completely. He will often go off screen, appear from the top and start
shooting down a green beam of energy. He will pause for about a second in
between, giving you a chance to dash, and then continue towards you. Dash
under it whenever he stops. Sigma will also fire out green shields which
you dash under.
After Sigma changes his armor colour around 5 times, he will appear, stunned
for about 5 seconds, somewhere on the screen. Quickly switch to Tornado Fang
and shoot. You can only get 1 shot in on Sigma before he disappears.
With enough patience and 2 full sub-tanks, you will eventually bring him
down. Of course, if you're really having trouble, offset 1287Eh is your
friend. That's all I'm saying about that. I don't condone cheating.
I've also been informed that all you really need in this battle is X
equipped with the Ultimate Buster and Buster Plus 2, and then just blast
away at the lion head on Sigma's armor. I've not tested this but if you're
really having trouble give it a shot.
Strategy B, submitted by MASTERNO
*** Again, I haven't tested this strategy because I no longer have the game.
It sounds like it works quite well.
"I highly recommend using the Ultimate Buster and the +2 items, putting all
three of Zero's items on Zero. Using Rising or jumping and slashing while
Sigma is red will allow you to hit him, while using X, you can only hit him
while he is blue or gold/orange."

=============================================================================
THE REAL ULTIMATE BUSTER ----------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Unlike the typical Ultimate Buster upgrade part, this section will show you
how to create a buster which actually is ultimate. In other words, it makes
the ultimate buster upgrade (on its own) look like trash. ;)
This section is entirely thanks to Lee Winters III, who has been a large
contributor to this guide. The guide would not have been the same without
him. ;) Thanks a lot.
Here is a method of enhancing the X Buster that many are not familiar with.
When completed, it will put a smile on your face!
First, get these items for X...
* Volt Catfish stage: Leg Enhancement, Heart Tank
* Launch Octopus stage: Body Enhancement, Heart Tank
* Flame Mammoth stage: Sub Tank, Heart Tank
* Neon Tiger stage: Heart Tank (skip the Head Enhancement)
With all 4 bosses defeated, see Gareth cutscene, gain ability to switch to
Zero.
Zero now has all 4 enhancements. He can break through the bricks to reach
the capsule. Go back to Flame Mammoth's level and use Zero to access X's
Arm Enhancement capsule. Switch back to X and collect it.
Collect enough Soul DNA to unlock Buster + 1, Buster + 2, Ultimate Buster,
and Speed shot. Buy these upgrades and equip all 4.
Turn off Auto Charge and turn on Rapid Fire.
Congratulations! You have just made the X Buster insanely powerful with a
very high rate of fire. Powerful enough even, to use it to tangle with
Berkana instead of the Sonic Slicer, and to gun down Sigma if you'd rather
save your special weapon energy. You miss out on the Head Enhancement, (all
it does is break bricks) and the Shotokan moves, (very powerful for sure,
but somewhat clumsy to use) but this new X Buster can be used in place of
special weapons most of time with no problem.
=============================================================================
BOSS ATTACK MODE ------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
Boss Attack mode is enabled when you complete the entire Extreme mode or you
buy it from the shop for 2000 DNA Soul Chips. There are two courses you can
choose in Boss Attack mode, one with mavericks not seen yet in Mega Man
Extreme 2 and the other with all the mavericks you've beaten in the game
thus far. Remember that once you die in boss attack mode, you're finished.
=\ After a battle, you can quickly equip the Super Recovery module and
collect the two energy capsules to recover a lot more than usual.
*** As you select the Boss Attack mode, hold the Select button. You will
get the Armor pieces for X and Zero! Regular X can hold 4 power-ups,
armored X holds only 2.
