Finding the Ancient cave
--------------------------
Once you Get use of Dekards ship you can access the Ancient cave. It is
located on a island about halfway in the map. Once you have landed on it it
will show up on your map. Here is a ASCII map of where the island is.

The "o" is just about where the island is, the "f"s are the other land
mass's.

On the island you will find the ancient cave. And a small town called
gulduck, Gulduck isn't important to the Ancient cave(or the rest of the game)
so I won't waste time writing about it :P

A Quick Quest.
----------------
Upon entering the Ancient cave Lobby, Talk to a soldier there and he will
tell you that you can go down 50 floors, but if you want access to 100 of
them you should find the "glass ruby" in Broffo Cave
Go to Broffo Cave and decend 10 floors to the bottom. pick up all the items
including the glass ruby and head back to the cave.
Note: Depending on how strong your charachters are, The Broffo Cave monsters
Can be Insanely easy or insanely tought. If you attempt this mission RIGHT
after you get Dekards ship, you will Most likely be in for a challenge at
Broffo Cave. but if you put it off for awhile you should be fine.

How to Survive the Ancient Cave
---------------------------------

History
---------
The Ancient Cave was a VERY original idea created in Lufia 2. Its was a 100
floor, Completely randomly generated, cave that when yo enter it, you start at
level 1 with no items, no money, no EXP points, and no armor. And you quest to the
bottom finding Weapons and armor and occasion blue treaure chests(That contain powerful
weapons you can bring in and take out of the cave).
The point of the cave was bassicly to find the best weapons in the game.
Because most of the blue chests contain items more powerful then any you can
buy :D~~
Well, in Lufia: The Legend Returns, the Ancient cave is back and badder then
ever. With 200 levels!!!! But in Lufia: TLR, The randomly generated levels
thing isn't that big of a deal, coz EVERY dungeon is like that in Lufia: TLR :(

THE BASICS
-------------
Alright. The Ancient cae can be REALLY tough. Especially if you are playing
on a GBC or a GBA. Coz there are no saves in the dungeon. and its a LONG way
down. And not to mention some dangerous traps.
When you enter the cave you'll be without items or any levels. :( I highly
Recomend that you wait till you have the hidden charachter "Egg dragon" before
trying the cave out. he STARTS at Level 1 with all stats @ 999. a great
charachter for your front row!
Here are some tips that you will NEED if you want even a chance in the
Ancient cave.

1- Grab EVERY treaure box you see.
2- Fight ever enemy you can, levels are very very important in this dungeon
3- Never miss a bush to chop, or a wall to test. Very good items could be on the
other side of the wall. or even a healing block under a bush, these are VERY
important in the Ancient cave.
4- keep a look out for blue chests. They contain items often times more powerful
then things you can buy in ANY store in the game. And you can leave the cave
with them and still have them. AND take them BACK into the cave with you.
5- Find Event items before entering the cave. You can take these into the
cave with you as well.

Mimics
--------
One of the biggest threats in the Ancient Cave is a monster known as a "Mimic".
A Mimic monster that looks EXSACTLY like teasure chests in the dungeon, And
force you to fight them when you try and open them. (Note: Unlike Lufia 2, The
Mimics look JUST like the other chests in Lufia: TLR, its imposible to tell
them apart)
Mimics pose a BIG threat in the Ancient Cave. Even a Master player, like me,
Can be whiped out in one round if you fight them before your strong enough. It
Especially sucks when you see a BLUE CHEST on the 1st floor, and you get all
happy and run for it only to find its a RARE MIMIC and get whiped out before
you can do ANYTHING in the cave.
There are a few types of Mimics in the Ancient Cave. Most apear as a Red chest
Early in the cave they are known as "Mimics" And later they take on other names,
and colors when you battle them. But they always look like Red chests in the dungeon.
There are also "Rare Mimics" which, As the name sujests, Are Rare. They are
completely EVIL because, they are very powerful, COULD potentualy apear on level
1, and most evil of all.. They make you think you will get a blue chest item then
they attack you.. those bastards!

How to leave the cave
-----------------------
You can leave the cave one of 4 ways...

1- Getting wiped out by monsters
2- Using the item "Providence" that you can find on floors past level 19
3- By a warp on the last floor you can reach
4- By a providence on the last floor you can reach

What items you can bring into the cave
----------------------------------------
Aside from Items you find IN the cave in blue chests. There are some rare
items you CAN take into the dungeon with you. You WANT these items in a bad
way, trust me :) here is a quick list of the ones i have discovered. If you
know any i do not have listed. then please tell me!

Bunny Equiptment.(All the bunny items, The bunny blade, Bunny outfit, Bunny tray,
bunny ring, and bunny ears can be found in the game without entering the Ancient
Cave. Look on other FAQs for more information)

Sinistral Items(Items you can win from the Sinistral by beating them in the battles
that they normaly squash you in. like the first meeting with gades at the tower of
death. Getting the items from DAOS are much harder. You only have 3 rounds to beat
him. But I will make another FAQ about Sinistal Items, And talk about it on there,
not here)

Dragonscale Armor(REALLY decent armor that you can aquire by beating the
Dragon that attacks conas's town)

Cat Ring(A ring that boosts a female charachters speed stat by 300!!! It is
aquired in a subquest. For more info check other FAQS on gamefaqs)

Rainbow(A item that, when equipt, stops monsters from apearing!!!! Get it by beating
the level 200 boss in the Ancient cave)

Best Weapons. These are any items found in the Parethea shrine, You can find
them by asking for the "Best weapons" wish from the L100 master of the ancient
cave. These items are The Maxim blade, Dark card, Invisable cloak, Ancient braclet
Luna blade, Queen whip, Capsule ring, Dekard sword, Fortune dress, Wind sword,
Power Sword, and Elf bow. (Thank you to VampireKnight for items names)

ShadowMage says: "I just wanted to tell you that the set stuff (Alum, Bunny,
ect) Can be gotten in other places then just the Ancient Cave. When I was at
level 12 I got the Alum Blade under Furgo's mansion. It was either a zombie
or one of those skeltons (either s. lady or s. fighter, which ever is there)
Anyway, a level 12 Wain with the Alum Blade (currently he's at level 22 with
an attack of over 600) is a match even for Gades."

One Very important Tip
------------------------
The Ancient cave can be very draining. I mean 200 floors and no way to
save? Thats almost inhuman. But there is a way around this. I recomend Buying
the game. Then Downloading a ROM of it and playing it on your PC. when you
play a ROM you have access to Save States. Which alow you to hit any button
(lets say F5) and save your game right at that frame. then you can goto bed,
work, school, take a break.. Then come back, start up the ROM, hit
another button(Say F7) and load your game from the FRAME you left off. a VERY
handy tip for the Ancient Cave.

[email protected] Says... "This is some advice for the ancient cave. If you play
on gameboy color hit select then hit start then you could save the game and turn it
off. The only bad thing is if you die you cannot go back to the save point."

David Roy says: "For those who do not want the ROM: there are AC adapters for sale at most video
game stores that will take care of the power problem. As for saving, the built-in temporary
save feature (the field log) does work in the Ancient Cave."

Omega Neo Replies: "Ok,I am a dumbass. I didn't even think about the field
log. I never really got the point of it till now. But a ROM is still a good
idea because if you die you HAVE to start from a save point, not your field
log. Or is there a way around that?(such as turning off the power to the game
right after you die)"

Software Piracy is bad
------------------------
I cannot stress this point enough, people. Downloading a ROM to a game you
do not own is Illigal. So before you Download the ROM of lufia: TLR be SURE
to own the cartrage. You wouldn't really wanna rip of the company that made
this game would you? They spend good money on making them... (Although,
judging from the graphics of Lufia:TLR, i think they spent about 3.50 on this
one. Still, BUY the game)

One Word... GAMESHARK
-----------------------

As I have said. The Ancient cave is REAL tough. And sometimes even the best
of us game players need a helping hand(Your looking at my FAQ, aern't you?)
So this section is to recomend that if you have tried and tried to beat the
Ancient Cave but get killed by the boss, or die can't seem to make it to level
70 without getting defeated? Then its OK to admit defeat and.. CHEAT!! mwa ha ha ha.
On Gamefaqs.com there is a very good Gameshark FAQ with ways to get your wave
and levels up REAL fast :) it makes the Ancient Cave REAL easy. But still
rather boring :( If your having alot of problems with the cave pay a visit to
the gameshark FAQ and make it easier on yourself.

Key Floors
------------

Not ALL the floors in the ancient cave are random. There are some special
floors. I'll tell you about them...

Man Selling stuff
-------------------
Every 5 or 10 levels You will go down the steps and the music will change,
and you will come up in a area about the size of the top of all the towers
you fought the sinistrals On top of. and there will be a man there selling items.
Most of the time he will be useless, but near the end when you have ALL
the best armor but your missing a helmet, and he has a Zirco helmet for sale.
around that time he comes in real handy.
he tends to sell random weapons and armor that are JUST inside your price
range :) and under the Items catagory he usually has one item. i have seen him
selling Coffee, and Cafelate, and Mocochino

Level 50
----------
Level 50 is Strange. Anyone I have talked to or any other FAQ I read says
that at level 50 you will meet a waitress who will reward you with the "God
helm" and if you don't have one yet, a providence.
But for me, When I reached level 50 all there was was a Red chest with a
Croquette in it(VERY good item that re-fills everyone magic and health to 999).
One reason for this COULD be that I found the god helm on level 13, and I
already had a providence. that could be why there was no waitress.
If YOU know anything about this PLEASE fill me in, coz I don't know a thing
to be honest :P what did YOU get @ level 50? was there a waitress? drop me
a line and tell me.

Tamlin says: I too wandered down to level 50 of the Ancient Cave and all
I found was a Chest with a Croquette and Stairs Down. I did NOT find a Waitress
nor did I find the God Helm on that or a previous level. PERHAPS this is
because I entered the Ancient Cave for the first time with the Glass
Ruby. PERHAPS the Waitress and Warp Point are present on level 50 ONLY
if you do NOT have the Glass Ruby.

Omega-Neo Replys: Yea. thats a good threory. I myself have wondered if what
happens on the 50th level has to do with the glass ruby... We should find out
more when more people submit info I guess :)

when you wander down 50 floors WITHOUT the glass ruby. Thank you to MANY people

Level 100
-----------

At Level 100 you will meet a Jelly(those who played Lufia 2 should
remember him), he will introduce himself as the master of the ancient cave,
and grant you a wish! Score!!
The wish's he offers you are....

1: Best weapons wish
2: Make Ancient cave 200 floors
3: nothing
4: FIGHT ME!!!

Best Weapons wish
-------------------
Choosing this wish Grants you 4 of the 12 items in the Parethea shrine. The
Shrine holds 12 Items total, one for each charachter. and yes, it holds a
sword even better then the Duel Blade! in order to get all 12 Items you must
make your way to the ancient cave B100 floor 3 times and wish for the weapons
It should be noted that the weapons in the Parethea shrine can also be taken
into the ancient cave... that makes them VERY worthwile. The Maxim blade(Weins
weapon @ the shrine) can cause 2000+ damage with a NON-critical hit.
And the "Capsule ring" for Mousse is also SUPER powerful. it makes him your
2nd best charachter in the game(Second only to the egg dragon)

Make Ancient cave 200 floors
------------------------------
This makes the Ancient cave double in size(And difficulty). But whats
awaiting you at floor 200 is worth it.

Nothing
---------
If you select the wish for nothing then when you leave the came you have
more EXP and are higher levels. that is what I have been told I have not
Verified it for myself as of yet tho. But I will soon.

[email protected] Says: "if you choose nothing in the next battle every one of your
characters will get three more levels it was pretty worseless."

FIGHT ME!!!
-------------
After you have used up all ofthe "best weapon" wish's. The wish for
"FIGHT ME" will apear. If you fight the Jelly and defeat him before he commits
suiside then you will have the option of enteringthe cave and starting at
level 100. to do this talk to the man behind the counter after beating the
jelly.

Level 200
-----------
People who played lufia 2 are gonna love this. But you encounter IRIS at
the bottom of the cave. :O(If you haven't played lufia 2 this has no meaning to
you at all though)
You have the option(More like your forced into it) to fight Iris(Though,
her name in the battle is Iria... o_O) and if you do this and defeat her.
you get the mother load of all awards.
But... Beating Iris will NOT be easy. You only have the leveling up and Wave power
you got while fighting in the cave, this is why fighting EVERY monster is important...
Unless your like me and used gameshark cheats. You will also only have the IP skills
and magic you have found.

The Iris Battle
=================
Iris is a Evil Evil women when it comes to fighting. Thats no joke. She will
fight you to the bitter end. And she has attacks that make you go ":O".
I will give you the basics of the fight... Iris has 2 forms.

Form 1: She sits back and looks somewhat like a mermaid. She looks harmless
enough but its a total lie! She will start the battle in this form.

form 2: She goes into a more upright posision and is all out offence. When she
switchs to this form she does a attack that is lethal. It attacks 7 times!
The attack hits 1 person per attack, for about 200 damage(Depending on your
power) and hits 7 times... Gulp!

Eventually she will she will switch back to form 1. and cast a spell that
looks like mirror.. this spell is deadly becase if you attack her after that
spell is in place, your hit backfires and hits YOU. And with iris as fast as
she is usually you set in a entire round of attacks THEN she does it and they
ALL come back at you :O

To make matters worse all yo have is the IP skills you found before this fight.
I was lucky enough to have hit and hide on dei which madethe battle ALOT easier,
but still double tough. All I can say is good luck!

The Aftermath
---------------

For beating Iris you get the BEST IP spell in the game. its called "D-end flash",
and takes HALF the MAX HP of any enemy you use it on. Imagen using it on the
Final boss :)
And you also get a bracelet that is INCREDEBLY handy, but a little late in
the game to be REALLY effective.. I will say this tho.. It makes going through
the ancient cave looking for blue chests REALLY easy :)
The item is called Rainbow and makes ALL MONSTERS STOP APEARING(making the ancient
cave VERY easy, lol)

Bordom Fighting Tips
-----------------------

Ok, lets face it. As great as a idea as the ancient cave is, 200 floors of
the same thing over and over again? Lets face it. your gonna get REAL bored
REAL fast. So this section is dedicated to General tips and tricks to keep
you Sane while your decending the Ancient cave.

1: Play music in the background!
I listened to my system of a down CD like 75857485702375 1/2 times while playing
the Ancient Cave. I know it helped to keep me sane. So crank up some music
and keep your mind on that while playing. :D

2: Have a friend over
This sounds kinda stupid but its not that bad actually. I was playin and my
Bassist showed up and i talked with him while I played the game and it seemed
to go much quicker. but he seemed kinda bored to tears tho >:P

3: Turn on the TV, That background noise helps a little. I had MTV on and it
helped time pass, But i did have to take a break every once in while when a
good video came on.

Weapon and Armor sets

I have noticed Sets in the Ancient cave. like For exsample the Bunny set.
You can find the bunny Blade, Bunny Ring, Bunny ears, Bunny suit, and Bunny
tray(shield) All in the Ancient Cave. I will try and keep the items grouped
and keep track of what sets there are in the cave. I will list them here.
Note: these lists are not complete!

Bunny set: Bunny Blade, Bunny tray, Bunny Suit, Bunny ears, Bunny ring
Light set: Light helm, Light Armr, Light helm
Iris Set: Iris Sword, Iris Armor, Iris shield, Iris Met
Alum set: Alum blade, Alum card, Alum staff, Alum helm, Alum shield, Alum armor, Alum fist

Diamond set: Dmd ring, Dmd ball, Dmnd coat

Q: Who is the best charachter to have in the Ancient Cave?

A: Without a shadow of a doubt, the Egg dragon. A hidden charachter in the
who you can Aquire after getting Dekards ship., For more info on that check other
lufia: TLR guides. Egg dragon starts out on level 1 with 999 on ALL stats. a
VERY good charachter to have in the front row in the Ancient cave.

Q: I have found a item not on your list, but how do i view the stats to send
those too you?

A: On your equiptment list, while i item is equipt to you, Select the item
hit the Start button. That will show What stats the item effects and how
much it does so. Don't forget to look @ the HP and MP as well to see if it
effects them.

Q: How do i get the guy in Laphon cave to move?(Dragon Egg Quest)

A: Ouch.. Bad news.. I don't know.. I had that happen to me as well. And the
only way I got around it was to re-start the game fro ma earlier save. I lost
about a hour total because of this.
A good stratagy to avoid this "glitch" is to save your game before talking
to the egg dragon. then give him the eggs, make your wish. then use egg sonar
and make sure he(or she) didn't place any in Laphon cave.

Q: Can I Expect more FAQs from you?

A: I will try to, but I don't have very much free time. And what free time I do
have is slowly being eat up by my band. But I DO want to contribute more, Perhaps
for Devil may Cry, or another short game.
