1) INTRODUCTION
Hello, and welcome to my first FAQ. This FAQ/Walkthrough is for the
Gameboy Color version of Dragon Warrior, as part of the compilation cartridge
"Dragon Warrior I & II". This FAQ contains a walkthrough and a few lists.
Hopefully, you'll enjoy Dragon Warrior as much as I did. Just one note,
though--you can't use the walkthrough, word-by-word, to get through
the entire game. Not only do you cheat yourself out of the game, but also
ruining the fun that comes with playing a RPG as Dragon Warrior.
Without futher ado, here's the FAQ/walkthrough....
***UPDATE ALERT***
As you can quite imagine, the walkhtrough is now complete, thanks
to the addition of the Western Cave section of the walkthough. This
dungeon is completely optional, but will reward you with the
Warrior Ring if you search that particular dungeon.
2) CONTROLS
+ Control Pad--Moves the hero throughout the game. Also allow you to
choose a command in the menu.
A Button--Talks to people, searches the ground for items and opens doors,
on the condition that you have at least one key in your inventory.
B Button--Goes to the command menu and cancels a selection.
Start Button--Opens up the "Feild Log" command, which allows you to save
anywhere on a temporary file that deletes itself upon continuing
from the Field Log file.
Select Button--Not used.
3) FAQS
Q--How do I continue on in DracoLord's castle?
A--Go behind the throne in the north, middle area and press A
to search to uncover a hidden stairwell.
Q--Help! the Golum is owning me! How do I beat it?
A--If you've obtained the PixyFlut, use it to put the Golum to sleep.
Q--Where do I find the Loto Armor?
A--It is in a single patch of grass in the middle of Domdora. Kill the
MadKnight and search that particular area to find it.
Q--Why did DracoLord sent me back to Riddlemor?
A--It is because you've said yes twice to him, thus resulting in waking up
from a nightmare. In order to fight DracoLord, you must say no twice.
Q--What's the maximum experience level in this game?
A--Unlike RPGs of today, where the max experience level is at average level 99,
the maximum level in Dragon Warrior is level 30.
4) WALKTHROUGH
A word of advice to all those walkthrough fanatics out there--This is more
than likely not a full walkthrough, so there may be somethings that I
might miss.
4.1) THE ADVENTURE BEGINS!
You begin the game on the second floor of Tangenel Castle. After a chat
with the king, open up the three chest to find a key, a torch and 120 gold.
Next, head for the door south from here and press the A button to open
up the door, thus using up the key you've found. Head down the stairs
and talk to the various guards and townspeople for some advice. To head on
out of the castle, go south from the stairs.
This will take you to the field screen. East from Tangenel Castle is Tangenel
village. From there, head to the weapon and armor shop in the northwest
corner. My personal reccommendation is to buy a club and a some cloth
armor. Next, head to the item shop in the southeast corner and purchase
an herb, which is used for healing, and a D-Scale, which will improve
your DEF stat by 1 point.
From here on, exit town and walk around the forest north of Tangenel
Castle. You'll eventually get into battles against Slimes and RedSlimes.
each Slime is worth 1 EXP and 2 gold, while the RedSlime is worth
2 EXP and 4 gold. Keep fighting until you get promoted to level 2.
When you do, head back to Tangenel village to rest at the inn
in the southwest corner and back to Tangenel Castle to talk to the
king. upon talking to the king, he'll ask you if you want to
record your journey into a journal and whether you want to rest.
Note that recording into the journal means saving your game.
Also, if you choose no the the second question, it will end the game
and take you back to the Dragon Warrior I & II title screen.
From here, keep on killing the slimes until you've earned enough
gold to purchase the following three pieces of equipment: a
Copper Sword, a piece of Leather Armor and a Leather Sheild.
4.2) THE BLOODLINE OF LOTO
The first real quest to do in this game is to find the tombstone of Loto.
That is located in a cave northwest from Tangenel Castle. Enter the cave
and use the torch you've received from the king to see the inside of the
cave from a 3x3 square radius. From the stairs, go east a little bit,
then south, then east until you hit a wall. Next, head a little bit north,
then east until you hit another wall. Now head southwest through
the hallway and turn south at an intersection until it forks into
a sideways "T". Head east, then south to take the stairs to the 2nd
level.
From the stairs, head east, then north, then west, then south, then west,
then northwest through the hallway, then west until you hit
an "L" intersectiom, then north, then east, then north, then west,
then north a little bit, then east, then south, then east and turn
north to find a tombstone. Search it to unveil Loto's Tomb. It will
read that Loto used three items to reach the castle across the sea from
Tengenel castle and enthrusted them to three sages throughout the land.
It also notes that you must find these same three items to complete your
quest.
From there, exit the cave the way you've came in and head to the Tangenel
area to heal up and save your game.
4.3) GARINHAM--THE CITY OF BARDS
From Tangenel Castle, head north until you reach a large body of water.
Next, head west along the shoreline until you eventually reach the town
of Garinham.
In Garinham, the people will talk about how Garin, the Bard helped Loto
on his quest to defeat the King of Demons. Among the talk is that there's
a harp located inside Garin's tomb. unfortunatly, you can't get inside the
tomb yet, due to a locked door. If you have the gold needed, you can purchase
the following three pieces of equipment: the Iron Axe, the Chain Mail
and the Iron Sheild. From there, head on back to the Tangenel area.
4.4) KOL--SPRING TOWN
From Tangenel Castle, head north, then east across two bridges. Note that
the monsters in the area, consisting mostly of Spookies and Drackies,
give you a good amount of EXP at your current level. From there, head
northeast until you find the town of Kol.
In Kol, search the dressers to find a couple of stat-bossting seeds. Talk
the lady near the spring, she'll give you a massage, just fo laughs. The weapon
shop, which is upstairs in a house in the southeast corner, has a suit of
Steel Armor for sale for 3,000 gold. If you have the money, buy it.
From here on out, head back to the Tangenel area to heal and save.
4.5) THE PATH TO RIMULDOR
From Tangenel Castle, head the same way you did to ge to Kol, except,
you have to go south from the second bridge into the cave. Note that
stepping in the poisonous bogs that surround the cave entrance will cause
you to lose 1 HP per step.
First, use a torch. From the stairs, head south until you hit a wall,
east a little bit, then soutn until you hit a wall and west to climb
the stairs to the exit.
You are now in the southern region of Alefgard, where the monsters are
strong enough to kill a low-leveled character. From there, head east. then
south around the mountains, then west, north and west until you find a
town surrounded by a moat. That is the town of Ridmuldor.
In this town, some of the townspeople are having trouble finding
the key shop. From the entrance, move north, then west along the moatline
until you find a small building. This is the key shop. Note that you can
only buy up to six keys at a maximum, and also note that all the doors in
this game close and re-lock themselves when you exit a town/dungeon.
From the key shop, head south and talk to Roggo, who'll give you a clue
about Kol, in which you must move south two steps from the spring
to uncover something important.
The weapon shop has a Steel Sword and a suit of Magic Armor for sale.
Buy them, especially the Magic Armor, as when eqipped, it'll
recover 1 HP for each step taken.
From there, if you've haven't learned the "Return" spell yet,
go back all the way you came to the Tangenel area. If you did learn
"Return", cast it, then heal and save.
4.6) THIS COULD BE THE WORK OF FAIRY-GOD-PARENTS!!!
From Tangenel Castle, head all the way back to Kol. Then, head for the spring.
from the middle-bottom op the spring, move south two steps and search
the area to find the PixieFlut (NOTE: Actual in-game spelling, due to lack
of character spaces).
Head on back to the Tangenel area afterwards.
4.7) DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS
This is your first true test of courage.
Head all the way back to the cave that connects Kol to Rimuldor. From the
north stairs, head east, then south, then west a little bit, then south,
then west, then south to a very large door. Open the door, then
heat south, the east and north to see a dragon. Press A when
you face the dragon to fight it.
In the battle, you must be at least level 15 to defeat it. The dragon
not only attacks, but also breaths fire on your character for
8-10 HP damage. Use physical attacks and heal only when it is
neccessary. Once the dragon is defeated, head north to find
Lady Lora. Talk to her, select "Yes" when asked, then cast "Outside"
to exit the cave, then cast "Return" to head back to Tangenel Castle.
Once you talk to the king, Lora will be back in her throne and will
give you a key item, LordLuv. The use of this item is to
find out how much more experience you need to get to the next level
and gives out coordnants in the field.
4.8) DOMDORA=-CITY OF THE DEAD
From Tangenel Castle, head west across a bridge, then head south, then
west across a second bridge. From there, head south, then east into a
town--the abandoned town of Domdora.
Note that the town consists of nothing but monsters, and they give out
plenty of experince. This makes for some very good power-levling.
Head to the middle of town to find a green patch of grass. Enter it
from the only direction you can go, which is west, and you'll
go into a battle against a MadKnight.
The MadKnight is a really tough monster, which uses not only physical
attacks, but also the "Sleep" spell, which if successful, could cause
immediate death. Use physical attacks and, if learned, cast the
"HealMore" spell to recover lots of lost HP. Once the MadKnight
is killed, move east one space and search the green patch of grass
to find the Loto Armor, which not only has the same healing effects of
the Magic Armor, but also allows you to to walk over poisonous bogs
and damage tiles without suffering any damage.
Exit the town and cast "Return" to heal and save.
4.9) GUARDDOGS ARE FOR SISIES
From Dormorro, head south and across a bidge, then through a narrow pathway and
across the bridge aother area. Go through the next area and across the bridge.
Then head west until you find a town that has a Golum blocking the way into it.
Press A when in front of the Golum to fight it.
Note that there's only one way to defeat the Golum--play the PixieFlut to
put it to sleep, then attack until it wake up. repeat the process until it's
dead.
Once in town, head to a building with a locked door in the north, then walk
through the damage tile and speak to the wise man. He'll give a couple
opf coordnants--70 North and 40 West. Make note of this and head back
to the Tangenel Area.
4.10) THE QUEST FOR THE SHINEYHARP
Head to Garinham and bring some keys with you. Remember the door you
could't get into earlier? Now you can, thanks to the keys. Enter the
building and head to the northwest corner of it. Move two steps
east and move north. You'll be in a hidden hallway leadin to
Garin's Tomb. Talk to the old man and say "Yes" to his question,
then enter the tomb.
Cast "Radiant" to light up the way. Head north, then east,
then north to an intersection. Move east until hit a wall.
Next, head south until you hit another wall. Head west a little
bit, then south, then east, then south, then west until you
get to an intersection. Move south, then west, the south, then west,
then north, then west, then south, then west until you find
a staircase heading down.
From the stairs, head east, then south to a stairway. Don't
take that particular stairway, as it leads to a looping
circle. Instead, head west until you find another stairway.
Take that stairway.
From the stairs, head north, then east, then north, then east,
then north to an intersection. Head east and take the stairs down.
From the stairs, you can either go northeast, then south, or
southeast and north to a small opening to the west. Head west
and take the stairs up. From there, head northeast and
you'll find the ShineyHarp, which, when used, can initiate
a random battle instantly. Cast "Return" and heal, then save.
4.11) PROOF THAT YOU ARE LOTO
Head back to Mercado, which you had to fight the golum to get inside
of it, and purchase a Silver Sheild and a Flame Sword. From there,
use the LoraLuv item to find the coordnants you found earlier.
Keep going until you are at 70 steps north and 40 steps west,
then search the area to find the Loto Seal, a very vital
item to your efforts to defeat the DracoLord.
4.12) THE THREE SHRINES
First off, head to Tangenel Castle. Go to the locked door in
the northeast corner and use a key to ope it. Head south,
then east, then north through the opening. Head east to the outside
of the castle, but don't walk too far, as it will result
in exiting the castle and returning to the world map.
From there, head south until you find a stairway heading
down. Take the stairs and talk to the sage to receive the
SunStone.
Next, put the ShineyHarp into your inventory and head to Kol.
From there, head west into an opening. Follow the path
to the shrine. Talk to the sage and he'll take the
ShineyHarp in exchange for the RainStaff.
Finally, take the Loto Seal, the RainStaff and the SunStone
and head to Rimuldor. from there, head south and cross a
bridge to the west, then south to find the other shrine.
Talk to the sage and, after he proves you're the descendnat
of Loto, takes the RainStaff and SunStone in exchange
for the RainDrop.
Head back to Rimuldor and go northwest to a path that is separated
by water. Use the RainDrop to form the bridge and take the path
into DracoLord's Castle.
4.13) ENTER THE DRACOLORD'S CASTLE
First off, open the door, head west, then north, then east, then south,
then east, then east, then north into the throne room. Go behind the throne
and search it to find a hidden stairway. Head down.
From there, head south, then west, then south, then east to an
intersection. Next, head north, then east, then south a little bit,
then east to a stairway.
Fro the stairs, head west, then circle the entire floor to find
the stairs. Head down the stairs.
From there, head east until you hit a wall, then north until you
find a stairway. Don't go down that particular stairway, as
it'll lead to a dead end. Instead, move west to find another
stairway. Take that particular stairway.
From there, go south until an opening to the east appears. Head
east a little bit and head north to take the stairs up. Follow the path
that leads to the 3rd level and open up the treasure chest to find
the Loto Sword, the best weapon in the game. Head back all the way to
level you've came from.
From there, head south, then east, the north a little bit, then
east, then north to a stair way going down. From there, take the path
to the next level. Next, head all the way east to one last stairway.
From the stairs, head north to an intersection, then west, then
north to another intersection, then east, north, east, north, then east,
then south. Take the pathway through the posionous bog and into
DracoLord's throne room. Talk to DracoLord. When prompted,
say "No" twice to initiate the final battle.
Note that DracoLord has two forms--a human form, and the form of a
giant dragon. Attack the first form with physical attacks.
Once DracoLord's first form is defeated, attack his final form
with physical attacks. If you're at 120 HP or below, cast
"HealMore" to recover it. After a while, DracoLord will be
dead.
4.14) THE WORLD OF LIGHT
After the sequence where you get the Light orb and automatically exit the
castle, cast "Return" to head back to Tangenel Castle. Talk to the
king. He'll thank you for defeating DracoLord and gives you the
kingdom as an reward. However, after some though, you decided to form
your own kingdom elsewhere. Lady Lora will come to ask you to take her with
you. Say "Yes" to the question, and the game is completed.
