Bob the Builder is a game for the Game Boy Color that is aimed for kids. It's
a really easy game especially on easy difficulty. In the happy and bright
world of Bob and his talking machines, he needs to do some chores before going
to a picnic. Help him out by playing various "missions" the game has to offer.
Controls:
---------
There are different controls for some of the mini-games, but when you're
controlling Bob, it will be this:
Button | Effect
--------------------------------
A | Jump
B | Run(with control pad)
Start | Pause/Select mission
Select | Same as start
D-Pad | Move character
Playing The Game:
-----------------
When you start the game, you'll be near Bob's House. Press Start over any of
the machines or the moving objects inside the house to start a mission. You
have an unlimited amount of tries to beat each mission. You can't make any
obstacle disappear, so be sure to jump or duck to avoid them.
On The Screen:
--------------
1. To the upper left, you'll see a health/timer bar. Whenever you get hit by
an obstacle, a small portion comes off. Once it's empty, you must start
over. On higher difficulties where you control Bob, this will steadily drop
as a timer as well as health.
2. Next to the health bar, there's a key. There's a key in every "office"
level which allows you access in a door or room. The place the key unlocks
has a lunchbox which restores Bob's health.
3. On the right, you'll see the the things that you need to collect and the
number you have so far.
Items
-----
1. Lunchbox - These are found in rooms keys unlock. Sometimes you'll find them
on other parts of the level. They restore the green bar.
2. Gas Tank - These look like round containers. You'll only find these if
you're playing a yard mission where you control a machine. These also
restore the green bar.
3. Key - These unlock rooms in missions where you control Bob. They will lead
to lunchboxes.
Sometimes, you'll see a pile of leaves or mushrooms that, when Bob lands on
them, he'll bounce up. Hold A so that each time he lands it will send him
higher and higher, allowing him to explore new places.
This game is has no save feature, but instead, passwords which will be given
to you after each chore that you finish. Here's a list of the chores in the
game, which can also be found to the very right of Bob's House:
Mrs. Potts' Fence
Town Hall Roof
Missing Music
Mr. Dixon's Packages
Feed Pilchard
Roley's Road Repairs
Lofty's Duck Drama
Dizzy Plays Catch
Muck Repairs a Wall
Office chores are found inside the house. You control Bob in each one of them
and they all require you to find things. Be sure to avoid all the obstacles!
Mrs. Potts' Fence
-----------------
Easy:
-----
To find this, go inside the house and press Start on the file cabinet to the
left of the door. In this mission, we have to find all 8 pieces of the
fence.
Start going right. If you climb the first ladder, you'll find another ladder
which leads to an open window and a key. You need the key to get into the open
window, so jump to get it. Enter the window. You'll find a lunchbox. This
restores health to the maximum. Of course, you probably won't need it since
we just started the level.
Climb back down, then go right(picking up a piece of the fence) and you'll
find another ladder. Go up the ladder, then left to find another piece of the
fence. Climb back down, then run right until the end of the level. That's it.
Ignore all the other ladders because they lead nowhere and the pieces of the
fence are right on the ground. Just jump over the green blob and the dog to
finish the level. Job complete!
Medium:
-------
Run right and jump over the green dot to find your first fence piece. Climb
up the first ladder all the way to the top. To the right after you get off
will be another. Return to the ground. You'll find the third and fourth pieces
near the next ladder. There's a dog running around the next ladder. Climb up
to get your fifth piece. Wait for the dog to go left before climbing down and
quickly run right to avoid it. Continue right. On the second tree with a
ladder, climb up to find your sixth piece and the key. Just a bit to to the
right of that piece is a tire. Bounce on it until you're high enough to land
on the tree branch for your second to last piece. The last one is just to the
right at the end of the level.
Hard:
-----
Jump over the green spot and go to the first ladder. Climb to the very top to
find two pieces of the fence. The third piece is to the right of the ladder.
Afterwards, head right to find another ladder. Climb up before the dog reaches
you. Hop over the green spot to the left to find another piece of the fence.
Continue to the next ladder to find the fifth fence piece. Continue right to
see a lunchbox hovering in the air. Push the box on the right so it's under
the lunchbox. Jump on top of it to be able to reach it.
The next two pieces are on top of the trees which you can get to by climbing
the ladder. Run to the end of the level, then bonce on the tire to get the
key. Return to the beginning of the level. Climb up the first ladder and enter
the window for the final piece.
Town Hall Roof
--------------
Easy:
-----
The wind has blown some tiles off the roof, so the mayor wants Bob to find its
8 pieces. Start by climbing the ladder in front of you. To the right is the
first tile. Beware of the can moving back and forth on the roof. Jump over it
to avoid it, then climb over to the right. Run to the left, then climb one
more ladder. You'll then be at the roof. Run to the right to pick up another
tile. Be sure to avoid the paper. Duck underneath it by pressing down if
necessary.
Climb the ladder to the right. Head right a bite more to find the third tile.
Go all the way to the right to find a ladder heading down. Climb down the
ladder and pick up the fourth tile to the left. There will be another ladder
going down. Climb down and jump over the can to the right. Pick up another
tile and go down another ladder.
We'll be on the ground again. A bit to the left, there's a new ladder going
up. Go up, then up again on the ladder to the right. There are two ladders
now. Take the one to the left first. It'll lead to a clock with a key above
it. Jump to get the key, then go inside the clock.
Inside the clock, ignore the ladders and go right to get a lunchbox restoring
your health. There's nother else here, so exit the clock tower and climb back
down the ladder outside. Go right, then climb the ladder going up for the
final piece of the roof.
Medium:
-------
When you start the level, go to the right to pick up your first piece. There's
only one path throughout the level and the pieces are right near the ladders.
Just pick them up on your way to the middle.
Hard:
-----
The pieces are all in the same places as Medium. The only difference is that
you take much more damage from something like a can and there's one piece in
the clock tower.
Missing Music
-------------
Easy:
-----
Go right and you'll find three music notes before reaching a door. Jump to
get the key, then enter the door. To the very right, there's a lunchbox. Get
it, then return back out. Go right a bit and you'll see a weird creature that
throws things at you. Just run quickly underneath it until you're at a safe
distance. To beat the rest of the level, just run right. The music notes will
be right there on the ground.
Medium:
-------
Run right and the first music note will be on a haystack. Continue right.
You'll see a large cliff. If you need health, grab the key above the door
and enter the room. Jump on the platforms to grab the lunchbox. Anyway,
outside, bounce on the tire before the cliff. Follow the path on top of the
cliff to get the second note. Jump off to the right and avoid the weird
creature that throws things at you.
The third note is to the right of the second tire. Jump onto the haystack and
on top is the note. The fourth note is on another haystack to the right of it.
Proceed right until you reach another tire and big cliff. Bounce on the tire
to get to the top where there will be another note.
Soon you'll reach a large house with ladders. Climb the first one you see,
then the one on the left. There will be a note to the left. Climb back down
to the second level and take the ladder to the right. Go down the ladder to
the right of the one you just climbed up for another note. Return to the
ground. Avoid another throwing animal and run to the right to find the last
note and end the level.
Hard:
-----
Dodge the animal on the stack of hay, the run to the right. On the large
haystack, there will be a note on top. Grab it and continue right. You'll see
the large cliff. There are two notes on top, so bounce on the tire to get
there. Continue. On the next tire, bounce to the very top to grab the key.
Return to the big cliff and go inside to find a note, then return and go
right. On the third tire you see, bounce up onto the cliff to get another
note. Continue to the house.
Climb up the first ladder, then the one on the left to get a note. Return to
the second floor and climb up the ladder to the right. It'll lead you to
another note. Go right past the house after that. You'll see a box. Push it
so it's below the lunchbox, then jump on top to grab it. Run right to the end
of the level to find the last note.
Mr. Dixon's Packages
--------------------
Easy:
-----
Run right and you'll see the first package. Ignore the ladder since it leads
nowhere, then run right to find four more packages before the next ladder.
This one leads nowhere too! Go right a bit more to find a door with a key
above it. Jump to get the key, then go inside the tent. Drop down the ladder
and go left to get a lunchbox. Return outside. There's another lunchbox to
the right. Run to the end of the level to collect the rest of the packages
and finish the level.
Medium:
-------
Go right until you see the first ladder. Climb up, then grab the package to
the left. Return back down and run right some more. The next one is just a
bit next to the ladder. Run right to grab another package halfway to the next
ladder. When you reach the ladder, climb up and bounce on the tire until you
can jump over the chimney. Unlike in easy mode, the chimney WILL hurt you,
so be cautious. Climb the ladder to the left leading to the fourth package.
Return to the ground.
Continue right. There's a package next to the blue tent; that should be your
fifth. The sixth package is on top of the next ladder. Continue right picking
up another package and you'll see a ladder. Be sure to avoid the cat, then
climb up the ladder to grab a key. The last present should be to the right of
the open garage.
Hard:
-----
Run to the right and jump over the mouse. Be sure to watch out for the cat.
Head up the first ladder and the first package will be to the left. Proceed
to the second ladder. Climb up and use the tires to bounce your way over the
chimney. The next two presents are over here. Return to the ground. Run to
the next ladder to find the fourth present, then continue going right. On the
next ladder, climb up, collect the lunchbox, then push the can underneath the
key. Jump to get it. Before going down, get the present to the right. Collect
the present to the right of the ladder on the ground, then return to the
beginning of the level and go inside the blue tent for the last package.
Feed Pilchard
-------------
Easy:
-----
Move forward to collect the first fish between a tree trunk and a pile of
leaves. The rest of the fish are all on the floor, so just run to the right
and you'll see every one of them. The only obstacle that you have to watch
out for is the black bird. If you see it, just run quickly past it. Try not
to touch it. There's also an open hole in this level where you jump to get
the key and go inside for a lunchbox. A really easy level. Be sure to go all
the way to the end where you see the blue cat to finish the level.
Medium:
-------
Go right. Avoid the bird and get the first fish on the bench. The next fish
is far to the right on some stumps. A bit further to the right is a pile of
leaves. Bounce on them to get on the branch to the left where the third fish
rests. The fourth fish is also on a high branch which you can get to by
bouncing on the pile of leaves to the right. The fifth one is also on a
branch. Bounce on the pile of leaves to get that too.
The next fish is on the bench to the right which is next to the hole. There's
another one just to the right of that. The last one in over the two piles of
leaves. To finish the level, you have to run to the end on the right.
Hard:
-----
Bounce on the first pile of leaves to reach the fish on the branch. Push the
stool on the next large pile of tree trunks so you can reach the fish on the
left. Return to the ground and find the third fish on another pile of tree
trunks. Continue right. Hop onto the bench, then onto the tree trunk for
another fish. On the next pile of leaves, bounce up to get a fish on the
branch. The next fish is on the bench a little bit to the right.
Continue until you see a big pile of leaves. Bounce on it to get the fish on
the branch. Head right more until you see two piles of leaves next to each
other. Bounce on them to reach the branch, then jump to get the key. Go back
to the hole in the tree to get the last fish. Now head all the way right to
the cat at the end of the level to complete it.
Yard Chores require you to control machines. Each machine controls differently
from the rest. You'll also have more of a variety of tasks compared to the
office chores.
Roley's Road Repairs
--------------------
Easy:
-----
Press A to accelerate and B to go in reverse. Move along the road and you'll
see weird brown bumpy things. You must roll over them twice in order to
smoothen out the road. Just get on it, reverse, then go forward again. Be sure
to follow the signs. You can break through the signs and take a different
path, but they lead nowhere and will take a lot of gas. Beating down signs
does take some time off the green bar.
Not much of a difference between difficulties. Just more objects that are in
your way and you must drive around.
Lofty's Duck Drama
------------------
All you have to do here is press A to pick up stuff with Lofty's crane. Press
A a little before the item you want to pick up goes underneath Lofty's crane.
It takes a bit of time for it to get there. The goal of this mission is to
pick up all the ducks. There won't only be ducks. You'll see logs, fish, and
gas tanks too. Gas tanks refill your timer if picked up. Logs will lower the
timer bar if they're not picked up, so be sure to get them. Lastly, you can't
do anything with the fish. Just let them go downstream.
The only difference between the difficulties is that higher difficulties go
faster.
Dizzy Plays Catch
-----------------
Probably the hardest mission in the game because Lofty's hole is so small.
The farmer will throw apples. You have to catch them. Move left and right so
the slow-moving apple lands in the hole. If it splats on the ground, that's
OK. There's a bird in the background that constantly drop these...squares
that restore health if you catch them. If you need some, be sure to catch
them.
On harder difficulties, you'll lose time/health on the green bar if you miss
catching an apple. There are also less...boxes.xxx
Muck Repairs A Wall
-------------------
In this mission we must place pieces of the wall from ground back onto, well,
the wall. Hold A while moving forward to pick up a piece of the wall. Release
A when you're pushing it and you'll be holding the piece of the wall. Go to
the hole that's shaped in the piece your carrying. Standing underneath it,
press B to lift it into the hole.
In medium mode, the pieces of the wall will appear in a different order. On
hard, the pieces will appear in a different order AND not be under their
correct hole, so you'll have to look around a bit.
Picnic
------
You can only do this after beating everything else. Press A to accelerate and
B to reverse. Take the path to the right. After the bridge, take the path to
the right again. After that, you'll find a fork in the road. Take the path to
the left to find two more items. On the next fork, you'll find a repair kit
that restores energy. Pick it up and go right. Collect the last few items,
then follow the path upwards to the exit.
On harder difficulties, there will be more obstacles for you to drive around.
Not a problem.
Here are a list of passwords that I encountered during the game. This is by
no means a complete list of passwords in the game, but it'll be enough to get
you to where you want. To use these passwords, go to the title screen, then
password.

Thanks for reading this FAQ. It's a really obscure game and this is one of
the few(if not only) FAQs for it, so if you have any questions, E-mail me and
I'll be glad to help. Just be sure to mention the game name. My E-mail's at
the top of the page.
