Introduction
If you've clicked on this guide chances are you, like me, have an interest in
this over 2 decades old game and have realized that the home decoration portion
of Azure Dreams is... obtuse, to say the least. This guide will attempt to
clarify and explain the various nuances involved when decorating your dream
home!
Foreword
While you can purchase decorations from Fur at the beginning of the game, this
guide will only cover placement of furniture in the final version of your home.
The information in this guide was gathered on my own initiative and via tedious
trial and error. I stand by the accuracy of the guide but, should you find a
discrepancy, feel free to message me and I'll work to correct it.
Nomenclature
The final version of the player's home has four rooms that can be decorated. For
the purpose of this guide and to make things as easy to understand as possible,
the four rooms will be referred to as:
Left most room- Bedroom
Left central room- Study
Right central room- Kithcen
Right most room- Vault Room
Things to consider before decorating
When purchasing furniture it is best to save beforehand to prevent misplaced
items or redundant purchases. This guide should help minimize this risk, but
rather safe than sorry. While Fur does offer an option to remove furniture from
your home for 2000g it removes ALL furniture and should only be used as a last
ditch solution. Saving before making a purchase will go a long way toward
ensuring you won't ever need to use the "nuclear" option.
With one exception, items of the same category (I'll explain this more below)
populate from left to right. Meaning, when selecting objects to decorate your
home, you can predict the items placement based off items of the same categories
orientation within your home.
Item categories have a fixed number of placement options. Fur is a shrewd
business woman and will continue to sell you furniture even though you have no
place to put it! If you purchase a decoration from a category that is already
"full" the item purchased will overwrite an item of the same category that has
already been placed. Items are overwritten in the same order they are originally
placed, so you can place 10 "carpet 1's and 2's" but if you purchase an 11th
carpet it will overwrite the first carpet you placed. If you purchase a 12th
carpet it will replace the second carpet placed and so on.
Furniture categories explained
Ok I've been throwing this term around the last few paragraphs so I figure now's
as good a time as any to explain what I mean by "category." Basically there are
groups of furniture that can occupy certain spaces. The spaces they occupy are
specific to their group so I call them a furniture "category." As an example,
Tv's, Lights, and Sculptures are in the same category, there are 10 positions in
the player home that can accommodate their placement which means you can have
either 10 lights, or 5 lights and 5 Sculptures, or any combination of the three
objects. If you buy more than 10 items from this furniture category, the first
item placed will be overwritten by the 11th item purchased as explained above.
The category numbers are arbitrary and only included to help you keep track of
item placement.
Categories and placement
Category 1:
Light: (1000g) Three bulb lamp that produces light with player interaction.
TV: (2000g) Orb TV that produces hologram like image with player interaction
Scululpture: (12000g) White stone sculpture of Venus
10 items can be placed from this category, starting from left to right four
items can be placed in the bedroom and six items can be placed in the Study.
*This category is the exception to the left to right placement rule. The 10th
object placed will be put on the far left top side side of the Study. Plan
accordingly.
Category 2:
Table: (500g) Small low table that will flip over with player interaction.
Washing Machine (1500g) Beige pot shaped device that opens with player
interaction
Range: (1500g) Circular pot that rumbles with player interaction
Fridge: (2000g) Grey pot that opens with player interaction
6 items can be placed from this category. All six items are placed along the
upper kitchen wall starting from left to right.
Category 3:
Bonsai: (1500g) Small bonsai tree that sits in a pot on the ground
Plant: (2500g) Thin plant that sways back and forth with player interaction.
4 items can be placed in this category. From left to right two items will be
placed in the Study and two items will be placed on the left side of the
kitchen.
Category 4:
Telephone: (5000g) Beige telephone that rattles with player interaction.
Trophy: (5000g) Gold goblet style trophy.
Something: (5000g) Brown orb that changes shape, color, and animation with
player interaction.
5 items can be placed from this category. From left to right, one object can be
placed on the desk in the Study and 4 objects can be placed in the kitchen- two
on each table.
Category 5:
Carpet 1: (1000g) Circular carpet with an orange center and multicolored border.
Carpet 2: (2000g) White Cross shaped carpet with pink hearts on it.
10 items can be placed from this category. From left to right, 2 items in the
Bedroom, 2 items in the study, and 6 items in the kitchen.
Category 6:
Painting: (1000g) Gold framed canvas with a large eye on a white background.
Scrolls: (5000g) Green and yellow framed scrolls with Kanji
Poster: (10000g) Large Bikini Bottom with pink tassels.
12 items can be placed from this category. From left to right 2 items will be
placed in the Bedroom on the wall behind the beds. 5 items will be placed in the
Study, 2 on the left most wall and three on the upper wall. 3 items will be
placed in the Kitchen along the upper wall. 2 items will be placed in the Vault
Room along the upper wall.
Wallpaper:
Wall P. 1: (1000g) Leopard print wall paper. Orange toward the top, white toward
the bottom with spots throughout.
Wall P. 2: (5000g) "Designer Brand" wall paper that is a brownish yellow with
various shapes smashed together in a homogeneous pattern.
Wall P. 3: (3000g) A pastural design with clouds, a pastel blue sky, and grass
green bottom.
Only one wall paper can be displayed at a time. A single purchase covers all
four rooms in the house. If you purchase more than one copy of the same type
nothing will happen (but Fur still takes your money.) If you purchase a
different type of wall paper it will overwrite the previous design.
Stand alone objects that defy categorization:
Beds: (2500g) The largest house comes pre-built with 6 beds which is the max it
supports. Purchasing additional beds from Fur is an absolute waste of money.
Canopy: (6000g) Semi-transparent netting suspended above the beds. A total of 6
can be purchased to cover the beds in the Bedroom.
Carpet 3: (5000g) Ornate rug with greens, reds, and beiges. Two can be purchased
and both will be placed in the Vault Room.
Tiger fur: (8000g) Giant, three eyed, six legged, tiger skin rug. Two can be
purchased from left to right 1 will be placed in the Bedroom and 1 will be
placed in the Vault Room.
Stuffed deer: (1000g) Mounted antelope head suspended from wall. 7 can be
purchased, from left to right, 2 will be placed in the Bedroom, 1 will be placed
in the Study, 2 will be placed in the Kitchen, and 2 will be placed in the Vault
Room.
Parting thoughts
Its been 2 decades, but the guide everyone's always wanted has finally been
completed. You're welcome! Haha, but seriously I hope this clears up some of the
murkyness of the home decorating system. If there is anything I can add to help
further clarify the system let me know, and thanks for reading to the end!
