Hello! Howdy! Bonjour! Aloha! Welcome to my first FAQ for GameFAQs. Th' name's
Phediuk, but you already knew that, right?
If you've come to this guide for help, you're most likely looking to kick some
major SMA3 boss butt. Of course, you wouldn't have clicked here in the first
place if it were that easy, correct? That is why I have come here, To help you
wax those bosses' behinds so hard that they can't see the light of day! I will
do the best I can to walk you through each and every battle in Yoshi's Island:
Super Mario Advance 3.
Now, you may be having a lot of trouble against a specific boss. Let's say
Salvo the Slime is really kicking the crap out of our pal Yoshi. It could be
because you haven't figured out that you need to chuck eggs at his heart to
beat him, or it could be because you're having a bit of trouble pulling off all
of the moves in your repertoire. That, my friend, is why we're going to examine
each and every one of our dinosaur buddy's moves to see how they will help you
against yon bosses et minibosses.
Below is a list of Yoshi's various maneuvers:
Walk/Run: Just press the D-pad left or right. If you hold the button for long
enough, Yoshi will break into a sprint and go reasonably fast.
Jump: A tap of the A button will make Yoshi spring into the air, like a...like
a...dinosaur. :^P Anyway, our reptilian hero will bounce higher depending on
how long you hold the A button.
Flutter Jump: If you hold the A button until Yoshi reaches the apex of his
jump, he will kick his legs and gain a little extra height. If you hit a
ceiling while fluttering, Yoshi will flutter again and again as long as you
keep hitting the ceiling.
Butt-stomp: While in midair, Yoshi can slam his ass into the ground simply by
pressing down on the D-pad. This can demolish baddies, crush crates, and help
against a few bosses.
Tongue Lash: With a quick tap of the B button, Yoshi will whip out his tongue
for a split second in the direction he's facing. If you hold up on the D-pad,
Yoshi will lash his tongue in an upwards direction. This is Yoshi's basic
weapon against his enemies. Any baddie or item in front of Yosh' will be be
scooped up into his mouth, and from there, you can...
Spit: While an enemy is in Yoshi's mouth, pressing the B button again will plop
the baddie right back out and make a decent missile attack.
Special Attack: Yoshi can use a watermelon power by pressing the B button while
the fruit is in his mouth. A green watermelon will let him spray seeds
(although it's pretty weak), blue will let him breathe ice (which freezes
enemies and allows Yoshi to kick them), and red will let Yoshi breathe fire
(thus burning his enemies off of the screen.)
Make an Egg: By pressing down on the D-pad while an enemy is in Yoshi's mouth,
he can create an egg for attacking purposes. This is a very important move that
you will need against most, if not all of the bosses. Speaking of eggs...
Activate Crosshair: By clicking the R button, you will activate a swinging
crosshair in front of Yoshi (if he has eggs.) From here, you can shoot eggs by
either pressing R again or simply releasing it, depending if you have Hasty
controls on or not. I prefer not. Eggs, when fired, will deflect off of any
walls for a maximum of three times before cracking. By pressing up on the D-
pad, you can hold the crosshair at its highest position, while pressing down
will deactivate the crosshair.
Lock Crosshair: When you need to make very precise shots, click the L button to
freeze the crosshair in place. Obviously, this lets you fire with pinpoint
accuracy, and you should not miss your target if you have it locked. Press L
again to unlock the crosshair again.
Well, that's it. Now that we've got the controls down and packed, it's time to
distinguish a boss from a miniboss...I shall define them...
MINIBOSS: The big bad guy that you fight at the end of each fortress, a
fortress being level 4 in any given world. (Gotta love that fortress music!)
These battles are EASIER than the boss battles (or at least they should be.)
BOSS: The big bad guy you fight at the end of each castle, a castle being level
8 in any given world. These are HARDER than the miniboss battles (or at least
they should be.)
Whew, I think I've made everything pretty clear...now, on to Minibosses!

Awright! Our first miniboss! This guy is E-Z once you figure out what to do! He
is a fairly imposing figure, but he will go down quickly to your mighty Yoshi
egg power! That's right, all you need to do is chuck an egg at Burt and his
pants will fall down a bit. *insert giggles* In the center of the arena, there
is an egg dispenser, just in case you need to stock up. If Burt is somehow
giving you difficulties, you can hide in the 'trenches' on either side of the
arena. Five hits with an egg will do Burt in, and reveal his stark-naked body!
Gah, don't look!

Location: World 2
Hopefully you didn't have too much trouble getting to this guy, 'cause the
World 2 Fortress is a major pain in the you-know-where. This is a pretty simple
battle, and is somewhat reminiscent of the Super Mario World Big Boo fight.
What you must do is blast Monsieur Boo with your mighty Yoshi eggs. However,
whenever you turn toward him, our ghostly friend will cower in fear, thus
rendering himself invincible. So, what we must do is ricochet our eggs off the
wall and right into Le Boo's face. Every time you hit him, Bigger Boo will grow
larger and larger, and will soon take up a large portion of the arena. Luckily,
there are several bats flying around waiting to be egg-atized just in case you
run dry (thanks to everyone who pointed out my original mistake.). Five hits
will finish this miniboss off. Let's move on!
P R I N C E F R O G G Y
Location: World 3
As the battle begins, Kamek, our sorcerer pal, will shrink Yoshi to the size of
a fly, and Prince Froggy will mistake our heroic struthiomimus for his lunch.
Yoshi is quickly gobbled up. OH NO! Is this the end!? Find out next time, on
Unsolved Mysteries! Just kidding. Our lean, green machine is still frosty, but
he resides in the depths of Prince Froggy's stomach. What you must do is fairly
simple: just gobble up the enemies from above, turn them into eggs, and fire
them at Froggy's uvula (y'know, the little dangly thing.) Drops of hydrochloric
acid will rain upon you from overhead, and they are quite tough to avoid, so
keep swift on your toes and crank out those eggs. There's not much else to this
battle. It will take eight hits to bring Prince Froggy down.

Location: World 4
You shouldn't even need my help for this. Marching Milde is an enormous blob,
basically. To defeat it, butt-stomp it right on the head. It will split in two.
Repeat. Just keep stomping until the regular-sized Mildes appear, and proceed
to gobble them up. Move on.

Location: World 5
This battle is tough. Before you confront the slug, make sure to stock up on
eggs using the dispenser to the left. Then go and witness the standard 'Kamek
transforms regular baddie into monster' cutscene, and the battle will begin.
Sluggy is just that, a gargantuan slug. But he's tough. Sluggy himself never
attacks, but rather, he tries to push you into the water near the egg
dispenser.
Henceforth, Yoshi must act fast. See Sluggy's heart? Sure you do. Fire an egg
in its direction. You will penetrate Sluggy's body a bit. Quickly chuck two
more eggs into the hole you made, and you will hit his heart. Sluggy will be
damaged. Repeat this process three times to win (not as easy at it sounds.)

The final miniboss! Celebrate, l-la la la la l-la! And it's still as easy as
ever. Tap-tap is a giant version of those bouncing spiked creatures you have no
doubt encountered before during your quest. Anyway, to defeat Tap-tap, you
gotta fire your eggs at those Breakout-esque platforms at the bottom of the
arena. You can fill up on eggs with the two dispensers in the center if you
have to. Just watch out for Tap-tap, as he bounces unwieldly around the arena,
and can be a real pain in the neck if he hits you. Anyway, once the panels at
the bottom have been destroyed, lure Tap-tap into bouncing directly into the
lava. Once he does so, you get to watch and laugh as he dies a slow and
tortuous death! MOO HA HA!!

This guy should just be a punching bag for you...but if you really need help,
here's what to do: blast Salvo with your eggs, and gobble up the mini-slimes
that appear after each hit. Rinse, lather, repeat. Pretty much your only hazard
is the lava to the right of the arena, but if you just stick to the left, that
shouldn't even be an issue. Cream this guy, and move on...

You start out on the left side of the arena. Roger, who resides in a flower
pot, is in the center. Two Shy Guy cronies are on the right to assist Roger.
What Yoshi must do is push Roger's pot over the rightmost ledge of the arena.
Once you begin pushing the pot, Roger will take a swipe at you. Whenever he
does this, simply duck and continue pushing. When he spits blue flames, just
keep on pushing the pot unless one of the flames is going to strike Yoshi. Once
you start pushing Roger far enough to the right, his Shy Guy cronies will push
the pot in the opposite direction. Henceforth, you shouldn't stop pushing
unless you absolutely must, otherwise the Shy Guys will shove it right back in
your face. A pretty easy battle, nonetheless.

After a pathetically easy castle, we're treated to one of the toughest bosses
in the game. I don't even think I'm doing this correctly...anyway, Nave will
chill out in the water, and his head will touch just above the platform you're
standing on. Our carnivorous friend has a throbbing bandage on his vine. You
gotta hit it three times with your eggs. This would be a fairly easy task if it
were not for the fact that Nave's bandage is directly below your platform.
Thus, you must make some very precise egg-throwing if you're going to take him
down. Here's my method: Activate your crosshair, and when it swings right in
front of you, lock it in place. From here, jump backwards off the ledge, and,
just as you're lined up with the bandage, fire away. If you have decent aim,
you'll probably hit Nave right in his weak spot. However, just getting your
crosshair lined up can be a chore, due to the fact that he is constantly
attacking. When he shoots his vines up out of the water, get out of the way
FAST. Your only mean of stocking up on eggs is to wait until Nave shoots out
three spores, wait for them to touch ground, and gobble up the Nipper Plants
that emerge. Also, every now and then, Nave will charge headlong across the
arena, so stay swift on your feet, and be prepared. Lastly, my best piece of
advice is to BE SKILLED!!! Good luck!
Hey, lookie here, I got this tip from a guy on the SMA3 board! (Sorry, I can't
remember your name, but if you read this, speak up!)
Apparently, if you jump out of the water onto the very edge of the platform
that Nave is on, the battle will not be triggered. This means that you can
snipe the tiny Piranha plant at the other end, Kamek will rush in and shout 'OH
MY!' and you'll win the battle! SWEET! It works, too!

Now this battle is just plain fun. ^_^ Hookbill has little means of
attacking, and he gives you a ton of clear shots. I can't imagine that you
should even die on this guy, but here's the strategy anyway: when the battle
begins, jump on Hookbill to make him hack up some eggs. Get a full stock, then
walk right in front of Hookbill's face. Chuck an egg right between his eyes.
He'll stand up, where you hit him in the face. He'll reach for the sky at this
point. Blast him, and he'll begin to tumble backwards...blast him once more,
and he'll do an imitation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in a few years from now.
From here, jump and butt-stomp Hookbill right in the gut, and he will be
damaged. Repeat this process two more times. Move on.

Some people think this is a hard battle. That's probably because of the insane
perspective, as the arena is a circle that rotates as you move. But otherwise,
bosses don't get much simpler. When Raphael is on the opposite end of a stake,
all you have to do is butt-stomp your end and slam it right up Raphael's ass.
Obviously, this makes him very angry, and he'll start to move faster. Another
stake up the rear will make him absolutely pissed, and he'll run around that
globe like a maniac. One more stake up his fecal area...and he dies. That
wasn't too hard now, was it?

The only hard part about this battle is figuring out what you are supposed to
do. It literally took me 15 minutes when I damage B.B. by accident that I
deduced his weakness. Okay, Baby Bowser, our typical spoiled brat, really wants
to ride Yoshi. He'll try to butt-stomp right onto Yoshi's saddle, but if he
misses, B.B.'ll send out a seismic shockwave that is deadly to touch. Luckily,
Yoshi can also shoot out shockwaves, which reveals B.B.'s weakness. The moment
after Baby Bowser begins a stomp, get right beside him (but not under) and
butt-stomp. If done correctly, you should send out a shockwave that will hit
B.B. before he has a chance to dodge it. A mere three hits will bring him down.
WHAT!? That was the final battle!? (Nope...)
B O W S E R
Location: World 6
Our villain Bowser's ass is grass. He's been beaten, torn, and tattered by the
good guys. But right when Yoshi and co. is about to finish Bowser off, Kamek
rushes in on his broom and casts his super-evil growth spell on him. DUH DUH
DUH!! Yoshi is sent to the rooftop of the castle...
Uh-oh! What's that gigantic figure looming in the distance!? NO! IT'S BOWSER!
(at this point, you may also notice the awesome rock music that's playing.) As
the battle begins, Bowser will summon boulders to rain upon our dinosoric hero.
Get away from the red arrows, as those are the exact places the boulders will
fall. Still alive? Good. Bowser will begin to stomp toward Yoshi, and you've
got to stop him. Every three-and-a-half steps, Bowser will stop to shoot
fireballs at you. These are easily dodged by a single jump. When Bowser gets
close, make sure you have a giant red egg with you. Honestly, I don't know how
you could miss it, but they ARE floating around on balloons, so I'll just
assume you've got one. Anyway, activate your crosshair, line it up with
Bowser's face, and chuck an egg right at 'im. Rinse, lather, repeat. After
three hits, Bowser will summon the boulders again, so stay away from those
arrows! There is now very little room to move around, so get to the center
platform and STAY THERE! Let the balloons come to you! Once you've survived
Bowser's second boulder attack, he will begin to run toward Yoshi. Quickly,
nail him with an egg! You're going to really have to stay on your feet now,
because if Bowser reaches your platform, the whole thing crumbles, and you die
(obviously.) Four more hits will bring the titan down. You can do it, I know
you can!
Now you can enjoy the cheesy ending, and unlock six BRAND-NEW LEVELS!!! Check
out the Secrets FAQ on the SMA3 page for help on these. Have fun, they're hard!
