--------------------INTRODUCTION & VERSION HISTORY [-VER1-]---------------
==========================================================================
A long, long time ago, some people were asking what enemies were in
certain groups during practice mode, so Raijinili and I posted up the
battles and enemies present in each. Many thanks to him for a bunch of
stuff I can't remember about a year or so back.
Now, after some incredible time later, I finally got around to
actually rearranging our compilation of data and making this ditty little
FAQ. Now, mind you, I have no idea how to make these, so after looking
over some of the other FAQs, this is what came out.
So here's what I've gotten done so far:
~*~Version 1.95~*~
Wow, the first (and possibly only) version! It comes with enemy-naming
action, enemy-positioning data, enemy-info-ing stuff, and much more!
~*~Version 1.96~*~
Added Gray Fox to the credits section, which I had completely forgotten
before I sent it some 5 minutes ago. Sorry about that, Gray Fox. ._.
~*~Version 2.00~*~
Changed some of the enemy descriptions after it was brought to my attention
that some of them were just... bad. Added an FAQ section, as reviewed by
Raijinili. Thanks much for reviewing it! Not much is going to change for
a while, so this will be version 2.00.
Things to come in the distant future:
-Brief battle / monster data on items dropped or vulnerabilities
-Maybe a rearrangement of the order of the battles
-Re-editting the names as based from Lacrima Castle's FAQ:
<
http://www.lacrimacastle.net/index.php?game=riviera&sec=bestiary>
Well, that was exciting. Better get a move on to the main stuff.
==========================================================================
----------------------------ENEMY NAMES [-NAME2-]-------------------------
==========================================================================
If you're going to look for something, you better know what it's called!
Trust me; this table isn't nearly as eye-gouging as it looks.
Names you'll be seeing are based from Gray Fox's FAQ:
<
http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadvance/file/riviera_ync_a.txt>
*except the ones marked under the column titled "My Name"
Name *My name Unique physical attributes / attacks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Archer - Girls with bows and arrows
Ape - Big monkey things that throw boulders
Bomber - Little kids who like throwing bombs
Bug Roli poli - Bugs with hard back scales that roll
Dragon - 4-legged dragons that bite
Element - Look like wisps or flames
Evil Mage Sorcerer - Cast spells and summon skeletons
Ghost - Small ghosts that "lickity-lick"
Giant Serpent Wyvern - Dragons without legs and fly
Golem - Stonemen with huge clubs
Gremlin Dwarf - Little kids who attack with hammers
Griffon Bird - Angry birds whose eggs you stole
Half-beast - Stylish monsters with slicked-back hair
Harpy - Part bird, part human beasts that fly
Hound - Another name for dogs
Knight - Swordsmen with armor
Lizardmen Lizard - Spear-holding, butt-poking lizard people
Magician Healer - Healers who can also attack
Pixie Imp - Cute tiny dragon-like things with wands
Plant - Angry plants that spit pollen
Slime - Jello-like globs that spit acid
Spider - 8-legged bugs that have sticky spit
Succubus Vampire - Female vampires with scythes
Undead Skeleton - Revived skeletons
Warrior - People with wolf-hats and axes
Random side note: Kind of strange that knights, sorcerers, healers, and
archers are considered "demons" as well, as
mentioned by Fia or Lina later in the game.
Now that we've got that covered, you're ready for the main thing! Well...
Almost... There's one other thing you should know about...
==========================================================================
---------------------------ENEMY POSITIONS [-POS3-]-----------------------
==========================================================================
Now that you know what they're called, it might help to know where they
are, too. It's completely up to you if you really want to know, as I
think you'll beat them up no matter where they are, but just for your
reference, as well as to make sense of the letters you'll find below,
thought I'd better let you know nonetheless.
F = Front rank
B = Back rank

\___F2___\___B2___\

\___F3___\___B3___\
This is the enemy's formation as I'm putting it. It just makes more sense
to me looking at it this way, and hopefully the same's true for you.
Unless an enemy is right behind another one, all of them will be labeled
simply as "F" (Front) and "B" (Back) without any numbers.
Now on to the real purpose of this FAQ.

---------------------------------FAQs[-FAQ5-]----------------------------
==========================================================================
How do I unlock Practice Mode?
~Practice Mode is automatically unlocked in Chapter 2, area 3, after the
battle "Wandering Beast" against a hound. when Fia tells you that you
"must 'Skill up' and gain more power" by training between battles. To
further take Fia's words, to access Practice Mode (as if you didn't
already know since you're reading this!) "just press SELECT and choose
'Practice.'"
If I use an item that normally disappears, does it disappear in Practice
Mode?
~Nope, which is the best thing about Practice Mode; items do NOT get used
up! In fact, you can GAIN items from Practice Mode, too, which comes in
highly useful when you want to get a particular item such as a Flag that
an enemy didn't drop during a regular battle.
~*~This is also applies to weapon skills such as Fia's "Banishment."~*~
Can a ghost steal an item from me in Practice?
~Yes, just like how a slime can lower that item's durability as well.
My sister says, though, that you'll get that item back after the battle,
but I've yet to test that myself.
Does practicing take a turn?
~Nope, practicing does not take a turn, so you can get all your level-ups
as soon as you get new items to do so. None of your practice is saved,
however, if you don't SAVE, so I recommend doing it before getting to the
next area where you can save right afterwards.
Do I get points in Practice?
~If by "points" you mean "TRIGGER points," then no. If you mean "SKILL
points," which are those bars above the weapons you can train with, then
yes. If you mean "IN-GAME points," such as when you open chests and
disarm or avoid traps, then no.
Do I lose points for practicing?
~Nope.
Is there a downside to practicing?
~Asides from getting bored with the repetitive training, there doesn't
seem to be any reason why you shouldn't take advantage of using Practice
Mode. However, I've heard from the boards a while back that practicing
with your items later, as in the next stage where you should get new items,
give you better level-ups. I contend, though, that if you practiced with
whatever you get, as soon as you can, you'll stil be fine, stat-wise.
If I run away, do I still keep experience?
~Yes, so if you don't want to finish the battle after maxing out those
bars, you'll still level up afterwards.
What happens if I lose during Practice Mode?
~In large font, the word "LOSE" comes up, and at the bottom right, a box
with the options "Retry" and "End Practice" appears. Nothing else happens,
though, so don't worry.
