Welcome to my NHL 2002 FAQ. I decided to make a FAQ for this game cause their
wasn't one already and I love this game. If you didn't notice already, this FAQ
covers the GameBoy Advance version of NHL 2002. It's a great game, that is
similar to the NHL games on the SNES. If I'm not mistaken, it's the most
similar to NHL 96.

Play Now
--------
Play Now is just an Exhibition type mode.

Skill Level: Three options are available here - Novice, Intermediate and
Expert. Novice is the easiest while Expert is the hardest and Intermediate is
something inbetween.

Period Length: Select between 5, 10 and 20 minute periods.

User Records: You can either have user records on or off. If on, you can keep
track of wins, losses, ties, win %, most goals scored in a game and most saves
in a game. Up to 8 seperate user records can be kept.

Penalties: This option lets you have penalties on, off or have penalties with
the exception of those annoying offsides.

Line Changes: You can choose to have them on, off or automatic. Having them on,
will force you to change lines manually, while automatic will automatically do
them for you.

Rosters: You can have the default rosters or with trades you made in the season
mode.

Fighting: Choose to have it on or off. If on, you'll get into scraps every now
and then during games.

Practice
--------
This mode is handy if you're looking to practice and sharpen your skills (or
just have some fun). You can select how many players are on each team (ie, 2 on
2, 3 on 1, etc...).

Visitor Players: Select how many players the visiting team will have. Can be
anywhere from 0 to 5.

Home Players: Select how many players the home team will have. Can be anywhere
from 0 to 5.

Skill Level: Three options are available here - Novice, Intermediate and
Expert. Novice is the easiest while Expert is the hardest and Intermediate is
something inbetween.

Period Length: Select between 5, 10 and 20 minute periods.

Rosters: You can have the default rosters or with trades you made in the season
mode.

Season
------
Play through a full NHL season.

Games Today: Browse and select a game to play.

NHL Standings: View the current league standings.

Game Options: Adjust various aspects of the game.

Team Rosters: Browse team rosters.

Player Stats: View player stats. This includes goals, assists and points for
each linemen and saves, shots and save % for goalies.

League Leaders: See which people are leading the league in various categories.
This includes goals, assists and points for each linemen and saves, shots and
save % for goalies.

Transactions: Trade, sign, release or create players.

Play Until A Day: Simulate games up to a certain date.

End Season Today: End the season and start the playoffs.

(Game Options)

Playoffs: You can choose from Single or Multi-Game playoffs. Single game will
have only one game per round while Multi is the best of 7 games.

(Transactions)

Trade Players: Trade players between 2 teams. I personally feel this is almost
useless, as it's easier to just release somebody you want, then sign them. Do
this if you want to go the hard way about things.

Sign Free Agents: Sign free agents to teams.

Release Players: Release players from teams and they'll be free agents.

Create Player: You can create your own player! You get to choose the name of
the player, as well as the position, weight, number and hand he'll shoot. Then,
you'll have so many points to distribute to various skills of the player. All
created players become free agents and you must sign them to the team you want
them on.

Link Play
---------
Link up and play against a friend.

In-Game Menu
------------
This is automatically shown at the start, end and inbetween periods of games.
It also can be brought up anytime during gameplay by pressing the Start button.

Start/Resume Game: Start or resume the current game.

Instant Replay: Watch a replay of the last play.

Edit Lines: Reassign players to various lines.

Change Goalie: Switch your goalie.

Team Roster: View the team rosters and see the stats of players.

Score Summary: View the scoring summary for the current game.

Penalties: View the penalties for the current game.

Record Holders: View record holders.

Game Stats: See the stats for the current game. This includes - Score, shots,
shooting percent, power play, power play minutes/shots, short handed
goals/shots, breakaways, one timers, penalty shots, faceoffs, body checks,
penalties, attack zone, passing and passing percent.

Period Stats: See the stats for the current game by period.

Player Stats: View player stats.

Credits: View the names of the people who made the game.

Quit Game: End the current game.

-To unlock 2 bonus teams and get more player creation points, wait for the demo
mode to start, then hold Select and hit the L & R buttons repeatedly. After the
demo ends, you should hear "it's in the game", if done correctly. The 2 bonus
teams are Tiburon Sharks and Budcat Cats. They are available in Play Now and
Practice modes.

-If you hold the L & R buttons as soon as you start the game up, a Zamboni will
take the place of the puck in the intro.

-The easiest way to get the players you want on your team, is to release them
as free agents. Then just sign them to the team you want. Especially handy if
you want to stack your team ;)

-There are points in this game where you can shoot the puck from and usually
score. I've shown a few of the ways below:

The x's indicate where you should be approximately. Yeah, the diagrams suck,
but it's the best I can do.

| | Shoot just as you're reaching the goal line,
| | and it'll go in almost everytime. It's best to
| | use a wrist shot. This trick works best I find,
| x x | when going down. It's a little trickier to do
| \___/ | when going up. One of the easiest ways to score.

| | Start at either side of the net and skate across
| | in front. You want to be close to the goalie, but
| | not too close, cause he'll most likely try to
| x------> | poke check you. Anyway, shoot as you get to the
| \___/ | other side of the net, and it should go in.
