<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Congratulations.  If you are reading this guide, you have either picked up a
copy of this game, aspired to pick up a copy of this game, despise this game
and everything about it, or just want to find a reason that I should be put to
death.  All of the above people will find what they want within the following
guide, I assure you.
For those of you that have bought the game or that want to buy it, I urge you
to either buy it or play it more often, it is truly an amazing game.  For those
of you that hate the game, you need to seriously evaluate your opinions about
the videogames that you like and choose to play, because this is one of the
best that is currently available, I like it a lot.  For those of you that want
a reason that I should get the death penalty, you will find that I will make
mistakes in this guide, and many people find that as a pretty good reason for a
person to be put to death, and I can't really blame them.  I will try to remedy
these mistakes as best I can, but, as I am only a man (unlike Devin Morgan, who
has also posted a guide, he's like a superman because he's the hugest
contributor you'll ever see) I can't do everything to make this guide perfect
(although I'm sure that Devin Morgan can).
Now, for those of you that read all of my previous attempts at being humorous,
perhaps you would like to know a little more about me.  But, as most of you
don't, I won't really take your opinions to heart and the next section covers
me.

<> 2.  ABOUT ME                                                   0002      <>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Well, about me.  Yeah.  I'm just a guy that likes to play video games.  About 3
months ago I picked up a copy of True Crime: Streets of LA.  I beat it in about
2 days, played through it again, and then I wrote a guide for it (you should
check it out, it's almost as amazing as this one).  So, that started my FAQ
writing craze.  I am also currently writing reviews, and have dreams of being a
prolific contributor, and this is one of the guides that helps me achieve my
ultimate dream.

This is my second FAQ, and I can imagine that I'm really not that good at doing
this.  The only reason my True Crime FAQ is rated so highly is because it was
the first one that was posted and all of the people had nothing else to compare
it to, they told me it was great, but you can see for yourself, tell me if
you're bored, I like feedback from the people that read my FAQs.  I also wrote
a small FAQ for Backyard Football 2002, but that was just on a Saturday morning
when I was bored and was playing the game, it really didn't take me very long.

Everyone thinks that writing an FAQ is a lot of work, and they're absolutely
right.  So don't send my an email saying "you're guide is the biggest piece of
**** that I have ever seen, ever, I bet you're ten!!!1!!!1!!."  I hate people
that do that, it makes me never want to help anyone by writing one of these
ever again.  So, if you want to see my work published here in the future, don't
send me messages telling me that you hate it.

I think that's about all that I have to say about me.  If you have any
questions, feel free to email me.
ALSO, I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP ME WRITE A GUIDE TO ANOTHER GAME, ANY
GOOD GAME.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, EMAIL ME.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

This is a pretty simple section, but it makes the FAQ look longer, and everyone
else puts it in their reviews.  So, because of my willingness to conform
because of peer pressure and looks, here are the controls from the instruction
manual!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!

L-      Aim Samus' weapon up at an angle.  If pressing down,
aim at a downward angle

Control Pad-            Left and Right-Move
                       Hold down to dash
                       Power Grip
                       Grab Ledges when jumping
                       Down- Crouch
                       Down twice- activate morph ball
                       Up or down- activate elevators

Non- action controls-   Control pad- Select

A-                      Confirm
B-                      Cancel
                       Return to the previous screen

A-                              Jump
Left or right with A- Spin jump

R-                              Ready missiles
                               With B- fire missiles

B-                              Shoot (fire beam weapons and Missiles)
Charge shot (press and hold B.  Release to fire)
Bomb (drop bombs in morph ball form)
Power bomb (in morph ball form, press and hold R and
then press B)

Start-                          Display map
With R- scroll from map to status screen
With L- scroll from map to easy sleep screen

Select-                         Switch between missiles and super missiles

Wow, that was loads of fun copying from the instruction booklet.  What I do for
the needs of conformity.  Now, on to the tips that I have to give to you

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

READ THIS SECTION BEFORE YOU GO THROUGH THE WALKTHROUGH, THERE ARE SOME GREAT
TIPS THAT HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THINGS THAT I DESCRIBE DURING THE WALKTHROUGH
THAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW.

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
SOME GREAT MAPS:
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}

http://metroid.com/zeromission/launch/index.html
http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadvance/file/metroid_zero_mission.gif

I have some pretty complicated directions, and going to these maps will not
only help you find the locations of all of the items in the game, but they will
help you find what area I am describing in a certain part of the walkthrough.

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
SPEED BOOSTER:
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}

The speed booster is a tricky item, and you have to master it to get 100% of
the items in the game.  The greatest skill is kneeling down, jumping up, and
then holding the control pad in one direction or diagonally to shoot off
through speed booster blocks (not that this can also be done when in morph ball
form).  This is essential to the guide and I use it often, so try and master
this technique as you progress through the game.

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
SAVING:
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}

You may think that you are the Metroid wiz and can zip through the entire game
without a save, but there are points at which I highly recommend that you do
save your game just in case you get caught in a dark ally without much health.
Save when I tell you to, and don't give me crap if you die and you didn't save.

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
SPEED TIPS:
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}

- You should actually save often while playing for speed, this will allow you
to go back through areas that you thought took you too much time to complete
and you can go through them again and achieve a better time, bringing your
overall game time way down.

- Use the speed booster whenever possible. It will only cut seconds off of your
time, but those seconds may be crucial later on.

- Not going for all of the items is a good way to cut down on speed.  Although
the guide is written for you to collect all of the items in the game, you may
want to skip the ones that take you out of the way of the place that you want
to go.

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
READ IT ALL
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}

- Sometimes I am vague about where you must go, and in this case, just look
through your map.  But in most cases I tell you exactly where to go.  So read
the guide and then go where I tell you to, don't just read part of it and
expect to know where to go.

- Sometimes while telling you how to do a certain task, I insert a space in the
page and keep writing a line down. Just read all of it to find out what you
need to do, I cant tell you how many stupid e-mails I've gotten from people
asking how to find the first missile tank.

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}
HARD MODE TIPS
{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}

- Hard mode is tough, each missile tank only gives you 5 missiles and each
super missile tank only gives you one.  Thus, you can only get 100 missiles in
the game, which will make it hard.  Each energy tank only gives you half of
what it does on normal and easy mode, making that much harder as well.

- Save very often, you are going to die a lot no matter how good you think you
are at the game.

- Find points during the boss battles where you can shoot their attacks to get
extra missiles and health, this will help you immensely when actually fighting
the bosses.

<> 5.  Around the Planet                                          0005      <>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

This is going to be a very interesting section, a very interesting section
indeed.  I will give you some information about the planet that you are on.
-----------
TYPES OF DOORS:
-----------

Blue-   can be opened by firing a laser at it

Red-            con be opened by firing a missile at it

Gray-           can be opened by killing all of the enemies in the room, flashes
      when open

Green-  can be opened with a super missile

Yellow- can be opened with a power bomb

-----------
ITEMS:
-----------

ITEMS DURING GAMEPLAY:

Missile-        It refills the number of missiles that you have, can be
found when you kill any enemies.  It looks like an
ordinary missile, like the kind that people are firing
at me and Iraq all the time.

Missile Container-      This lets you hold more missiles,
a very rare and useful upgrade, it is sometimes hidden
and when it is in a room it is marked by a circle on
your map.  It looks just like a missile but it has
brackets around it, making it look like the missiles
are in a container of some sort (hence the name).

Energy-                 It is a glowing purple circle, possibly the most common
occurring item in the game.  It replenishes your life
energy so that you can keep on playing.  It is your
      life force, if you will.

Energy container-       This is an essential item if you want to complete your
quest in one piece.  It gives you 99 more energy to
hold, and you will be able to fill your energy more
than you were able to before you got the upgrade.
Again, it is very rare, and is marked by an open circle
on your map when it is in a room.  This is very
important, getting as many as possible is imperative if
you want to make it through the tougher areas with
ease, the extra energy really helps.

Chozo Statue-   This is one of the most interesting things in the game.
It is a statue, but it is so much more.  Jump into its
arms and become a morph ball to see a place to go and
to be instantly healed and to have all of your weapons
replenished.  These things sometimes carry items in
their arms, shoot the glowing ball and jump into the
caring arms to get the cool new upgrade.

Super missile container- This increases the amount of super missiles that you
have, it will be a great help during later boss
fights.

Power Bomb Container-   Refer to the missile container explanation to see how
to find these suckers on your map, they give you even
more power bombs.

SUIT UPGRADES:

Long Beam-      This is a cool upgrade, it allows you to shoot much
farther than you could at the beginning of the game.
It is found early in the game, so it will become
invaluable in the late hours of your adventure.

Morph Ball-     Another invaluable upgrade, you get this one very early
on in the game.  It allows you to curl up into a little
ball and roll through tight spaces to get items and to
advance through the game.  It is really cool and there
are a lot of upgrades that are made just for Samus'
      morph ball form.

Bomb-   Now this is an interesting gizmo.  You just press B
when in morph ball form to use them.  You have an
unlimited number of bombs, and you can use them to blow
up special sections of wall, that is their primary
purpose.  You can also use them to kill enemies.
Another great use is to drop one right where you are
standing and, when they explode, they will launch you
into the air, and from there you can move left or right
into tight passages.  This is one of the most useful
things in the game, and it is essential to master all
of the bomb techniques before you try to take on the
      game.

Ice Beam-       This cool upgrade lets you freeze enemies in their tracks with your
beam, it is great for jumping up on top of them or just waiting for
them to thaw so that you can do it again.

Hi-jump-        It just lets you jump a lot higher, that's it.  It also adds the
morph ball jump function

Power Grip- This cool thing lets you hold on to the edges of ledges and walls,
it will be a great addition to any Metroid fighter's gear.

Charge Beam-The next cool beam upgrade lets you charge shots and then fire the
enhanced ammo at your foes for devastating results.

Wave Beam-  Yet another beam enhancement, this one lets you fire through walls
to hit switches and enemies, very cool and a good thing to have.

Plasma Beam-This is also the unknown item #1, it is a very powerful beam and
can actually be used to shoot through enemies to other enemies.  A
cool thing, very cool.

Power bomb- This upgrade lets you use power bombs, which are like big bombs.
When you let them explode, they will reveal all of the breakable
blocks in the blast radius, and they will break power bomb blocks
(obviously).

Varia Suit- This is a cool thing that lets you go swimming in the cooler type
of lava in the game (there are no bubbles coming out of the cooler
lava).  It also lets you go in hot rooms without taking any damage.

Gravity Suit- This is unknown item #3, and it lets you move freely in water and
go in the hotter type of lava.

Power Suit- You get this from the boss in the Chozo Ruins, it lets you use the
Unknown items.

Speed Booster- You use this to run fast, that's all there is to it.  After you
are running for a while, you can build up a boost and break through
speed booster blocks.  You can also kneel down in this time.  Then
you jump (in regular or morph ball form) and hold one of the
directions to shoot off in that direction.  It's tough, but
essential for getting all of the items.

Space Jump- It lets you somersault continuously in the air by tapping A when
you start to fall to the ground, another ingenious thing, it is
Unknown Item #2.

Screw Attack- This is a very cool one, you get to somersault through, and kill,
almost all enemies and break screw attack blocks.  Great one for
killing small enemies.

THIS GUIDE IS WRITTEN ONLY FOR THE NORMAL DIFFICULTY OF THE GAME

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Brinstar
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

This first area of the game is quite simple.  Just go left, shooting some of
the creatures on the way.  Jump up and get the circular object, which happens
to be a morph ball.  This allows you to roll up into a small ball and roll
through little tunnels.  Use it immediately and roll under the tunnel to the
room from which you came. This time, go to the right and shoot the door to open
it.
In this room, shoot the blue blocks to break them and send the enemy crashing
to earth.  Then shoot the enemy and go through the next door.

Run through this room, aiming your weapon at the top of the ceiling and shoot
at the creatures there.  When they are dead, then roll through the tunnel
there.  Then jump into the arms of the Chozo statue that is further into the
room and it will show you the way that you need to go next, and it will also
recharge your energy.  Then leave the room, go straight in the next room to the
save room, use it to save your progress.  Then exit back to the tall vertical
room.

Climbing is the way to go now.  Start your ascent, killing the enemies on the
platforms and be sure not to touch the brown things that fly around.  You will
notice a door with a blocked tunnel, but your line of fire is not long enough
to get you through to the door right now.  Go inside the first door on the
left, kill the enemies inside and blast away the debris that is inside the
tunnel.  Roll through it and go through the next door and you will see another
Chozo.  Shoot what is in its arms and then jump into it, and you will have the
long beam.  Also use this statue to revive your health if you are lacking in
that department.  Then exit the room.

In the room that you just came from, jump up onto the platform and clear the
debris from the tunnel with your new longer beam.  Roll through the tunnel and
jump up.  Clear away the blocks by shooting them and continue up until there
are two ways that you can go, left or right.  Go right first.  Be sure to avoid
the lava, it will hurt you if you fall into it.  Go through the door and into a
room with a 2-headed statue.  You can't do anything here now, but remember this
room for later.  Go back to where you had a choice of direction and keep going
right.  You will find a strange spider-like creature here, jump up on the
platform by the door and kill it.  Then go through the door.

Use the Chozo statue and it will show you a location to go to that is off of
the map.  Keep going right and back into the tall vertical room.  Blast away at
the debris inside the tunnel that you couldn't go through before, and then roll
through it to the door.  Go across the small bridge and into another vertical
room.  Go down all the way to the bottom of the room, this is where you need to
go next.  While in the vertical room, notice that there are little purple
things that will stick onto you and slow you down, and enough of them on you
will cause you to start losing health.  You have no way of killing them now,
just avoid mass quantities of them.

Inside the room that you enter at the bottom of the vertical room, you will
notice a shaking of rocks.  Just keep going and jump on top of the lava pits
and get the missile tank (5).  Then get ready to fight a creature.  Go back to
where you came and a worm-like boss will enter from the ceiling.  When you see
his eye open, fire a missile into it.  If you can manage to do this three
times, you will be able to bring him down.  Avoid hitting the sides of his
body, they will hurt you if you touch them.  When he has his eye closed, he
will start to emit 4 little spikes, you can shoot them and get extra energy and
missiles.  It is pretty tough to take him down right now, and you will be able
to try again as many times as you like later, so don't sweat it if he leaves.
When you eventually win, you will get the Charge Beam, something that you
really don't need to beat the game but is pretty helpful.  Whether you have the
item or not, exit the room.

When you exit the room, go up through the vertical room and go into the save
room, then save your game.  Keep going up until you get to a red door, and use
a missile to go through it.  Run right through the next room, holding down L
and blasting the regenerating flies as you go.  These are some of the peskiest
enemies in the game, so go quickly through the next few rooms until you get to
a room with a couple of floating platforms.  Jump up onto the first platform
and then jump left.  Shoot at the hive and the flies that are flying around it.
When it is gone, go get the missile tank (10) that is behind it.   Then go back
right.  You will find another hive, get rid of that one as you did to the other
one.  Kill the third and final hive as you continue to jump right onto the
platforms.  Go through the blue door to continue your adventure.

In this next room, you will see an open circle on your map that indicates that
an upgrade is in this room.  Shoot away the column to expose the missile tank
(15).  Then you will encounter the worm that you faced before.  Use the same
strategy as last time, except that it will be easier to kill because you will
have more missiles at your disposal.  If you can't beat him this time, go back
to the original location and try there.  If you still can't beat him, come back
here and then repeat the pattern as long as it takes to finally get the Charge
Beam.

Then keep going right after you cap the beast, jump up onto the columns in the
lava pit and then get your first energy tank (1).  Keep on going to the right.
Blast away at the columns that come out of the lava before you jump to them.
Once you get past those columns, enter the door on the other side of the room.
In the next vertical room, go down to the bottom and use a missile on the red
door there. Then you will be in the map room.  Advance and then you will get
the map of Brinstar.  This will be helpful later as you explore this area.
Back in the vertical room, go through the door at the top of the room.  Go
straight in the next room and go save your game in the save room.  Then go up
and into the next room.  Jump up onto the ledge and roll into the tunnel.  Keep
rolling, kill the ceiling beasts, and go into the next room.  Shoot the Chozo's
hands and then grab the bomb from them.  Read about the bomb in the pervious
section.  Also, take this time to recharge your energy and your missiles.

Bomb the two blocks in the room and roll through the tunnel until you get to
the end, then bomb it and roll through that tunnel.  You will be in a room with
a missile upgrade.  To get it, you will need to learn how to bomb jump.  Blow
up the first bomb block and then go directly under the hole that is created.
Use a bomb and you will be blown into the air.  When you hit the ceiling, move
to the left to be on the next level.  Repeat this technique to raise yourself
up to the missile tank (20).  Leave the bomb room and go into the previous
room.  Leave the area and then roll through the tunnel.  You will notice that
the door is locked.  Blow up the gray blocks, then bomb the purple parasites
that come out of the hole.  Killing all of them will open the door and let you
continue.

Go back through the lava pits and then keep going left until you get to a room
with gray-colored blocks on the floor.  Bomb the blocks and start a descent
into the vertical room.  Go down to the bottom, shooting all the enemies that
you can.  Then shoot a missile at the red door and go through it, use the Chozo
to find out where you need to go next.

Keep going to the right until you get to a room where you can see that there is
space under the floor.  Bomb the entire floor and fall through.  You will see a
missile tank inside the gray platforms extending from the wall.  Stand on top
of the platform and roll into a ball, then fall off of the platform and use a
bomb to blow up the gray block in between the two platforms.  Quickly jump back
up on top of the platform that you were just on, fall off and hug the side so
that you roll in between the two platforms.  It takes a little practice, but
after you do it you will get the valuable experience and you will have another
missile tank (25) to boast about to all of your friends.

Exit the room and return to the room where you first met the worm with the
charge beam, although he won't be there right now.

Go through the room to the right and stop when you get to the lava pit.  Jump
up onto the platform and roll into a ball, bomb the thing that blocks your
path.  Roll onto the next platform and then go through the next door, then take
the elevator down to the next area.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Norfair
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Your stay here in Norfair won't be long, so let's get to it.  Go to the left
when you get to the bottom of the elevator room and you will enter a room with
lava pits.  You will see a missile tank upgrade as you continue on, but pass it
up, you will be able to get it later.  Continue going to the left and shoot at
the bottom of the column that is in your way to reveal a tunnel that you can
roll through.  Do so, then bomb the end to come out the other side.  Jump to
the platform and roll through the tunnel to the next platform.  Keep going left
until you reach a vertical room, use the elevator there to rise into Crateria.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Crateria
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Welcome to Crateria, home of my tortured soul.  Go right from the elevator into
a room with water in the bottom of the room.  Go into the water, go to the very
left of the pool and bomb until you get to another missile tank (30).  Then
jump up on the ledges above the pool until you get to one that is blocked by a
column, and bomb the column.  When you get to the top, keep heading up.

You will find yourself in a room filled with little tunnels that you can roll
through.  You need to get over to the left of the room, so use your bombs to
jump and to break through the blocks.  When you get to the next room, Go past
the strange-looking blocks, and you will find a Chozo Statue that has an
interesting item in its arms.  Shoot it and then jump into it to get the
Unknown Item #1 (it will be the plasma beam later, but right now you won't be
able to use it).  Now you will be able to shoot all of the locks that are the
same kind as the ones that are in that room.  Shoot all of them, and then go
down into the hole to get another missile tank (35).  Shoot the left side of
the hole and it will disappear and you will be able to climb out.

Back in the room with a lot of tunnels.  Get up to the section with the strange
block that is like the one in the last room.  Bomb it and it will go away, then
you can keep going up.  Jump up on the platforms until you see a door that is
hidden in rock.  Jump up to that platform and go through it.  The next room
that you are in is large, try to go across the bridge.  You will see that it
breaks as you walk across it, and you will be at the bottom of the large room.
Use your blaster to blow away at the left wall and then roll into a ball inside
and use bombs to bring you to the location that you were told to go to by the
last Chozo Statue.  You get a very useful upgrade from the Chozo, the Power
Grip.  This lets you hang onto ledges, which will be very important as you
progress through the game.  Leave the room, go back to the very tall room.  You
will find that it starts shaking and that platforms raise from the floor.  Use
your new upgrade to get to the top and go into the door to the left.

Advance to the left of this room and blow away the debris that is on top of the
column there. Jump up and hang onto the ledge, then press left and roll into a
ball and go through the hole.  Go through the door and you will find yourself
in the room where your ship landed.  Save your game and recharge your weapons
inside your ride, and then go back to the right and shoot the weird block in
the next room to roll through the hole.  Go through the door on the right and
you will find an elevator back to Norfair.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Norfair
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Go down to the bottom of the room where you come down from the elevator, and
follow a path to the end of the horizontal room.  You will get another missile
tank (40) in here.  Then exit the room and go up in the elevator room to get to
where you need to go next.

You will find yourself back in the room with the missile tank upgrade.  Use
your power grip to jump up to the ledge to get that missile tank (45).  Take a
good look at your map to see where the Chozo told you to go, that is where your
next item, the ice beam, lies.  Go to the right until you reach a save room,
then use it and continue going to the right.  In the next room, walk out onto
the platform and jump up to the platform above, using the power grip to hang
onto the ledge and climb up.  Travel through the meandering room, shooting all
of the dangerous enemies that are in there.  Make your way to the right side of
the room and go through the door.  Climb through this room, avoiding the brown
armored things and then go up until you get to the first door and go through
it.  Jump across the lava pit, hanging on the ledges with your power grip.
Watch out for the purple enemies, they often knock you back into the lava,
causing major damage.  Go to the left of the room and go through the door to
find yourself another Chozo Statue, and the long-coveted ice beam.  Also
recharge your health and weapons here.

You can't go through green doors at this time, so go to the left and roll into
a ball, bombing the walls and get to the next room.  Shoot the brown armored
thing and jump on top of it, and then jump over to the door and to the next
room.  In this room, you have to freeze the brown things and climb to the top.
Freeze them in such a way that you can climb to the top of the room, and then
go through the door that is there.  In the next room you will find another
Chozo, so freeze the jumping things and jump over the ledges to it.  It will
tell you that the next place that you need to go is within Kraid, an area that
you have yet to explore.  There you will find the speed booster.

Go to the left and freeze the enemies that jump out of the lava to get to the
door.  Now you have to freeze the brown things to jump to the ledge above.  Do
this and then go to the next part of the room.  You will be able to leave the
room, but first, freeze the brown thing so that it is against the right part of
the wall.  Jump on top of it, then bomb-jump high enough so that you see the
hole in the wall where the missile tank (50) lies.  Exit the room and go on.

In the vertical room, go down to the bottom.  DO NOT GO INTO THE ROOM THAT IS
DIRECTLY BELOW THE ROOM THAT YOU WERE JUST IN, IT IS VERY HOT IN THERE AND YOU
WILL RECEIVE DAMAGE FROM THE HEAT THAT IS IN THERE.  THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
In the next room from the bottom of the vertical room, shoot some of the blocks
that are the floor to get the brown flying thing up into the air.  Freeze it
and jump on top of it to get to the high part of the room and another missile
tank (55).  Go back to the room where the elevator to Brinstar lies, freeze the
brown thing to get back to the top and use the elevator.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Brinstar
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Go through the long horizontal room to get to the tall vertical room.  You are
going all the way up.  Jump as high as you can, then freeze the brown enemies
and use their frozen bodies to get up to a tunnel with a missile tank (60) in
it.  Then roll forward and you will find yourself in a vertical room that is
next to the vertical room that you came in on.  Go near the bottom until you
see two gray platforms protruding from the wall.  You need to bomb the block
that is in between the ends of those two blocks.  To do this, go on top and
roll down to the side and then bomb it.  Jump back up to the top via the frozen
brown enemy, and roll inside.  You will find yet another missile tank (65).
You will see an upgrade for a super missile tank, but you need more upgrades to
get it, so just roll out back into the vertical room.  When you get into the
room, go onto the platform to the immediate right and jump up, you will hang
onto a hidden ledge that you can roll through.  Then grab the next missile tank
(70).  Roll back into the main shaft and go to the bottom and go left.  You
will find yourself in a long room, so room under the platform and stop at the
end.  You will notice an open circle on your map, meaning that an upgrade is
inside the room.  Fire at the ceiling until you can see the upgrade, then you
must learn how to use the really cool bomb-jumping technique.  You need to hit
B rapidly once you are right below the upgrade, as fast as you can.  You will
eventually climb higher and higher into the air, allowing you to reach the
energy tank (2).  Also remember this technique for later.  Go to the left and
enter the next room.  Bomb the floor and go through.  Before you use the
elevator to Kraid to the right at the bottom of this shaft, and jump up on the
platform at the left.  Bomb it and you will see a little cannon.  Roll into a
ball inside it and use a bomb to activate it and you will be sent flying into
the air.  You will hit the ceiling, and hold right as you begin to fall to
navigate your way to another missile upgrade (75).  Then fall back down, go
through the door to the right, and use the elevator to travel into Kraid.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Kraid
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

If you completed the complicated item hunting that is described above, you will
be at an advantage in Kraid.  Go down from the elevator room and go inside the
first door on the left, you will find yourself inside of a save room.  Use it
to record your progress, and then continue to go left by rolling into a ball
and using a bomb to jump up to a secret passage.  There is a missile tank (80)
inside this new room.  Go back to the save room via the same technique that you
used to get into this one.  Then go back to the main elevator tunnel.

Go directly left from the save room and keep going right, and then get yet
another missile tank (85).  Keep going to the right and go through the door at
the end of the room.  Watch out for the enemies that are here, they are tough
to kill, so use missiles and your ice beam to effectively bring them to
extinction. When you get to the shaft at the end of the long corridor, bomb the
floor and go through.  You will find another cannon, use a bomb to blow
yourself up to the top of the room.  You will find yourself in a narrow shaft
with holes in the walls.  Kill all of the enemies that lurk around it, and then
start to climb.  When you see that a blue block is blocking your progress,
shoot it by hitting L and continue up until you get to the highest door, then
go through and continue.

You will see a column with breakable blocks on top, shoot them and then jump
up, roll into a ball, and roll through.  Keep going through the corridor and go
through the door at the end.  Run through this room and fall down the narrow
passage.  As you do, press B over and over to place bombs and to open up a
secret passage.  When you hit the ground, use the cannon with a bomb to go to
the top of the room, and go to the secret passage that you just opened (if you
didn't open it, you can do it now with bombs, it is the only blue block and is
on the right side of the narrow passage).  Roll up inside it, kill the enemies,
and go through the door.  This is a very important room, it lets you turn on
the power to the magnetic transporters that let you slide across the room.  To
slide, you need to jump up on the holding thing and you will just go (note that
you can also latch on to the slider when you are in morph ball form, you will
need to do that later).  You can also call the slider over to you by shooting
the red ball that is on each side of the track that it travels on.  Use the
slider now and you will get an energy tank (3).  Keep going and go through the
door.

Save your game, there is a bit of a boss fight coming up, but it's nothing that
you can't handle.  Go out the right door in the save room and you will fall
down to another blue hatch.  Go through it to meet the mini-boss for this area,
the worm.  He is pretty easy to defeat if you know how to handle him.  Just
stand on one side of his body, directly under the sliding mechanism.  When you
see him about to charge at you, jump up and travel to the other side of the
room on the slider.  He will get stuck on the other side of the room in 9 times
out of 10, so shoot him quickly with missiles before he goes back into the
lava.  Repeat this process several times, and he will begin raising and
lowering the lava level.  This is really no problem, just stand on the taller
of the two blocks on each side of the room to avoid taking any damage.  After
about 30 missile hits, the worm will go down and you should feel free to take
his health.

After you beat the worm, go down into the little hole, jump over the acid and
fire at the left wall.  Roll through to find another missile tank (90).  Then
go back to the worm room and exit stage left.  You're back in the room with the
cannon.  Use it to go all the way to the top door on the right, and go right
through.  Run back to the main shaft of the level and stop there.  Drop into
the narrow passage and press left to grab onto a ledge, then roll into a ball
and go grab yet another missile tank (95). Now go back to the room where you
found the elevator from Brinstar.

You need to go as far down as you can without shooting anything, and then go
through the door to the left.  Shoot out eh breakable blocks and roll through
the passage, and then travel across the lava pit via the sliding thing, then go
through the door.  You're going up to the very top, be sure to avoid the brown
thing.  Go through the blue door to the right and you will find yourself inside
a room with some very interesting creatures that are quite hard to kill.  Use
missiles and charged shots to bring them down, and try and take up positions
that you can hit them from but so that they can't hit you.  When they are gone,
go through the door, get the missile tank (100), and continue.

Go all the way down to the bottom of the shaft and bomb the bottom.  It looks
like there is lava down there, but looks are deceiving and it is really an
optical illusion, there is nothing there but air, what a cool thing.  Go down
to the very bottom and go through the door.  Right after you do, bomb the floor
and travel down the drain.  Go down and use another bomb near the strangely
marked block, then go down some more.  When you get out of there, go to the
right through a door.  You will see that your path is blocked, so go back and
shoot out the breakable blocks to go through the secret tunnel to get into the
room anyway.  Take the Unknown Item #2 (will eventually be the Space Jump, but
you can't use it right now) from the Chozo, and then shoot the now breakable
block and exit from the room.

Go back to the passage to the left.  Stand between the two missile launchers
and fire missiles at the ceiling to break through it, then go up.  Roll to the
left and jump to the right.  Go right through the passage to the save room and
record your progress.  Go into the room to the right from the save room, jump
to the first platform you see and fire up, then jump up into the hidden
passage.  Go to the left and you will find yourself in a very large room.
Shoot the missile blocks and then jump over to the left side and shoot the
missile blocks that are there (you can see which ones are missile blocks by
using a bomb on them).  Go to the bottom of the room and head left to go for
another upgrade.  Go to the left until you see a block in the ceiling and bomb
the floor beneath it, revealing a cannon.  Use it to be propelled to the
ceiling, clearing the debris.  Time other launches to kill the enemies that are
here, you need to do this.  Then go back to the left, find the cannon under the
slider, use it, and be shot to the slider.  It will take you to your missile
tank (105).

Get back to the room directly to the right of the save room that you last used,
and use it again.  Then go to the right and use a bomb to blast a hole in the
floor and to get you into the draining system once again.  When you hit the
ground, shoot the Chozo blocks and climb up to the left.  Go up the boss door
and fire missiles at it once its eye is open, but beware the shots that it
fires at you.  Once it is dead, you can enter your first big boss fight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS: KRAID
You have been searching for him, Neo.  Now you get to actually fight one of the
monsters that is keeping you from getting to Mother Brain.  You have to make
him eat missiles to kill him, and that is not an easy task.  Shoot his head
once to get him to open his mouth, and then spoon-feed him pain with your
missiles.  Repeating this process will kill him, but you have to take care to
notice the environment that is around you during the fight.  He shoots missiles
at you, avoid these.  He will eventually destroy the first platform, forcing
you to use the claws that shoot out from his belly to use as a boost so that
you can keep shooting at him.  Stay positive in the fight, he will go down
eventually.  When he does, feel free to collect your hard-earned speed booster
from the Chozo Statue.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you get the speed booster, you need to learn to use it.  Immediately start
running to the right, firing doors as you go.  Keep running through some blocks
and maybe even some enemies and you will be on the lower right side of Kraid's
lair.  Go into the shaft at the far-right of the lair and start to climb.  This
is a good opportunity to practice some of the skills needed later in the game,
such as using reformable blocks to climb in accordance with freezing the
lovable brown things, I really hate them.  When you get to the first door on
the left, go through it. Jump over the lava and then through the lava waterfall
to the other side of the room, then use a bomb in the corner to reveal another
missile tank (110).  Then go back to the very tall room, go all the way up to
the right and save.  Then go directly to the left and use the slider to slide
across the room, and shoot the bees that follow you, if you don't they will
knock you down into the lava and the chances are that you will die there.  When
you get to the end, shoot the block and go back to the elevator room.

Shoot the breakable blocks here and drop down to the lower levels of the
massive room.  Go to the left, then go left through a red door and get the map
of the area.  Go back and bomb the floor to find a cannon, use it and shoot to
the top of the room, then go to the right. Climb up on top of the platform with
the red ball, roll into a ball directly on top of the ball.  Place two bombs,
and you will be on the slider over to your missile tank (115).  Then go back to
the elevator shaft.  Go up until you see a red door that you haven't gone
through yet, and then go through it.  Start running immediately and don't stop
when you hit the breakaway blocks and start killing bees.  When you hit the end
of the breakable platform, jump and you will get the energy tank (4). Then go
back to the elevator and use it to go back to Brinstar.  You see Ridley on your
way up.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Brinstar
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Head directly right from the elevator to find another Chozo that will tell you
where the Hi-Jump is.  Navigate your way through the shafts of Brinstar over to
the elevator to Norfair, which is where your next quest and upgrade lie.  Save
your game on the way.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Norfair
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Just as you touch down in Norfair, go into the save room to the right and keep
running through it.  Keep running in the next room, blocks will break as you
build the speed boost.  Keep going through a door and don't stop until you hit
the wall in the next room, where everything looks like blue-green bubbles.  Go
through the floor that you just broke.  Go into the room to the left, kill all
of the enemies and clear the blocks on the ground level, then build your speed
boost and run out of the room to another breakable floor.  From this one, go
down two screens to a door on the left, this will eventually lead you to the
Hi-Jump.  Run through the corridor and take the item from the Chozo Statue that
is there.  DO NOT ROLL UNDER IT YET, YOU WILL COME BACK WITH AN ITEM THAT WILL
ALLOW YOU NOT TO TAKE DAMAGE IN THE ROOM TO THE LEFT.

You are now after the Varia suit, a very cool upgrade that will let you safely
enter hot rooms and move in the cooler lava.  Exit back to the main shaft and
use your hi-jump to grab onto the nearby ledge, then roll over it and get the
missile tank (120).  Drop down to the very bottom of the shaft that you are in,
the go up and go inside the door on the left.  You will find a Chozo Statue
that will give you the location of the Varia Suit, it is in Brinstar.  Exit
through the top of the room and enter the cannon in the shaft.  Bomb it to use
it and then fire up through the speed booster blocks and go back to the long
horizontal room from which you came.  Run through the room, breaking speed
blocks and jumping over the lava.  Return to the Brinstar elevator and use it.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Brinstar
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

From the elevator, go left and go all of the way down the long horizontal room
and then go as far up the next shaft that you can go and take the door to the
right.  You have not explored this room before for good reason.  Jump over the
second vertical pipe and bomb the section that you can roll under, and then
jump up to the top pipe in ball form.  Roll through it and come out on the
other side and land on the platform.  Then go over the lava, jump up over the
plant-like thing, and go into the morph ball tunnel in the ceiling, and roll
through to the door.

Go and save your game in the room to the right, then come back to this one-
screen wide room.  Fire at the ceiling and go through it.  Go up the two screen
tall room and use the top door on the left.  You will see the purple things
come and eat the plant thing, getting it out of your way.  Kill the purple
things with your bombs once they are finished helping you.  Go to the other
side of the room and let the purple things do their work on another plant
thing, then go through the door and take the Varia Suit from the Chozo.

Go back into the room with the purple things and drop down through the cooler
version of lava.  Bomb your way through a path that will give you another
energy tank (5).  Go back down to the nearest save room, use it and continue to
the right.  Take a missile tank (125) in this room, it sits atop an open pillar
jutting out from the lava.

What you have to do now is complicated.  Go over to the tunnel at the right
side of the room, jump into the lava and bomb the breakable blocks.  Go back
into the left side of the room and make the purple things stick to you, go back
into the lava, and go over by the plant thing to make them kill that so that
you can continue into the next room.  Go up and then out the door on to the
right.  Go down the shaft to the bottom floor and then go left.

IF YOU STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE CHARGE BEAM, THE THING WILL APPEAR AGAIN HERE
AND YOU SHOULD BEAT IT EASILY, THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE.  Once you have
collected all of the upgrades here, go back to the elevator to Norfair.

ITEM CHECKLIST:
You should have right now:
125 places for missiles to be held
5 energy tanks
0 super missile tanks
0 power bomb tanks

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Norfair
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Run right as soon as you hit the ground, never stopping, building your speed
boost and running through all of the barricades in your way. Run as far as you
can to the right before you hit the wall, the start going down through the
passage that you just opened up.  Go through the door on the left and build up
speed there by running to the right and crash through the speed blocks on this
level too. Go back to the Chozo Statue that gave you the Hi Jump and roll under
it to the next room, which is a hot room that will not damage you because you
now have the Varia Suit.

Walk to the middle of the room and blow away the breakable blocks on the floor,
they prevent you from doing a speed boost.  Go to the right and run to the
left, jumping and crashing through the speed boost blocks that were formerly in
your way.  Go through the door at the left of the room and then go on to the
save room and make use of it.

Go into the room to the left of the save room and freeze enemies to cross the
horizontal hot room that has hot lava at the bottom.  Then go through the door
on the left side of the room.  Drop down in the small shaft and go through the
door to the bottom left and get the map data.

Exit the map room and jump into the lava pit, and you will find out that it is
another one of those tricky optical illusions that you have seen in the past.
Use bombs to continue going down.  Go through the first door that you see to
your right.

Jump from column to column of bubbles in this next room, killing the flying
enemies that lurk around you in the process of doing this.  If you don't take
care of the enemies quickly, there's a chance that they will do you a good
amount of damage, so go in swinging your blaster.  When you get to it, go out
the door to the right.

In this small room, use a bomb to blow open the floor below you and expose the
path to another missile tank.  Keep going down to the bottom of the shaft and
go through the door to the right, go through the hot room to find the elusive
missile tank (130). You can get it by firing at the bubbles on the ceiling
about halfway through the tunnel, watch your map for the open circle.  Then
keep going through the room and get the second missile tank (135) that is in
there.  Then go back to the small room that you used bombs in to get these
upgrades.

Go to the right and exterminate the vines that hang from the ceiling with your
missiles and charged shots, the kill the enemies that were trapped in the vines
in the same way.  Continue through the door to the right.  Run through the tiny
room to the right and save your game in the adjacent room, then go back to the
tiny room and bomb through the floor.  You will find that the lava there is
fake, and you will drop down and go to the left.  Kill or jump over the
creature, bombing the two columns to go on to the left and to the room with the
Wave Beam, a cool thing that lets you fire through walls, very cool.

Exit the Wave Beam room and use it to shoot the creature outside through the
bomb-able wall.  By doing this, you can damage the creature without risking
damage to yourself in the process.  Then bomb the wall and exit the room via
the right door.

Go up through the shaft and go through the door to the right at the top.  Keep
going right and save your game, and then continue to go to the right.  When you
are in a room with a locked gray door and what looks to be a giant slug, stay
there.  Change into a morph ball and roll into the cavern under the slug.  Use
the wave beam to kill the slug and then go up past its body. The second one is
trickier.  You have to shoot at it to keep it back, and then place bombs when
it is about to charge. The bombs should go off on its unprotected underside,
hurting it and eventually killing it. Then go by the second shell and bomb the
ceiling, and take the energy tank (6).

Go back as far left as you can without jumping, then run right and right
through the door, your speed boost will break some blocks, enabling you to get
the missile tank (140).  Then go down and go through the room to the left, save
and keep going to the left.  Go straight to the left.  When you get to a room
with a tentacle, make short work of it with your missiles and new wave beam.
Jump up on the frozen brown things and fire at the vines that are holding the
hanging larva in place, shoot them with missiles until they are gone and the
larva crashes to earth.  Run through the passage that it creates and take the
elevator down to Ridley's lair.  Take a look around and go back to Norfair when
you find it hard to get around.

Go back to the place where you shot the larva from the ceiling, and then find
the opening to the new tunnel that has opened.  You will face the larva in full
form soon.  Go down the passage and go to the left to the mini-boss's lair.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS: BIG BEE

The larva that you shot down has hatched, and he is not happy with you,
defeating him won't be very easy, but you get the super missiles when you do,
so there is a good reward.
Break all of the eggs to start a boss fight with the giant bee.  He will buzz
across the room, damaging you as he goes.  You need to hit him in the tail with
missiles and charged shots to bring him down.  Roll into a ball on one side of
the room and wait for him to fly over you, then pop back up and follow him all
the way to the other side, firing missiles at his vulnerable tail.
Repeat this pattern several times to finally bring the beast down.  Then go and
get your first super missile tank (2).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Run out of the room with the super missiles in hand, use a regular missile to
blow a hole in the floor.  Go through, and then use a super missile on the
green door (press select to switch between the 2 missile types).  Avoid the
enemies in the next room by bombing the floor and going through the small
hidden passage there, and then go out the left door. Walk ahead exactly four
blocks, then jump and get the energy tank (7).  If you don't jump after 4
blocks, you will fall through the hidden hole and will have to come back for
the energy tank, so take care and get it now.

Go to the left from the long corridor and go down the short shaft to the save
room on the left side.  Use it, go back out and snag the missile tank (145)
here.  Then continue to go down through the shaft and go through the red door
and get the map of the area.  Keep going to the right.

Now you need to get to an area with 2 missile tanks inside, but it won't be
easy to get there.  Go to the right side of the passage that is in the ceiling;
run to build up your speed booster.  Kneel down at the very end of the ceiling
passage, jump to the ground and over the gap to the left.  Shoot the hatch,
jump and hold left and you will be rocketed back through the map room and will
break the blocks in the next room.

Go down and start running right, go through the door. When you get to the left
wall, kneel down and then jump to rocket up and break the speed booster blocks
that are here.  Navigate your way to the 1st missile tank (150)and then to a
2nd
missile tank (155).  It is hard to provide a strategy for this area because it
is so complicated, but you should get both of the upgrades after a try or two.
Then exit the room and go back up, go right through the map room.

Run using the speed boost and kneel at the edge, then jump and hold right to
rocket your way to yet another missile tank (160), and then break one of the
bridges over the holes and fall in.  You will find a passage to the shaft on
the right of the enormous lair of Ridley.  Go up to the second door on the left
in the shaft, go through and go up into a long corridor of a room that is three
spaces above the bottom of the shaft on the Ridley map.  I'm not sure if this
is the correct way to get there, but get to a shaft in that room and then bomb
the lower-right section of a fake lava pit to get another missile tank (165).
I think I gave the right strategy to get there, but it is late in the night as
I write this and I'm still not sure.  If you find fault with this, email me
with the correct route.

Go back to the shaft on the right side of the lair and go up farther than you
did before, going inside a door on the left.  Keep going straight through a
door to the left.  Fire through the wall to kill the fiends and then roll in
and collect the missile tank (170) that is there.  Place a bomb on the left
edge of the same room to open up a passage to a super missile tank (4).  Then
go back down and go through the door to the left.

Freeze the things in this room to reach another missile tank (175) for your
killing pleasure, then go to the left for two rooms and collect another super
missile tank (6).  Jump up to the right, grab onto a secret ledge.  Fire at the
floating block in the next room to reveal another missile tank (180).  Then go
through the door to the left and use some of your wave beam and morph ball
skills to collect missile tank #1 (185) and missile tank #2 (190).  You have
gotten a lot of missiles recently, so it's inevitably about the time to face
the boss of this lair.  Search through all of the rooms of the lower-right
corner of the lair, and look for an open circle on your map.  Use the morph
ball and bombs to get to an energy tank (8) at that location (I'm sorry that I
don't have the exact way to get there, it is quite confusing and very difficult
to write, but not that difficult to do).

Return to the bottom left save room of the lair and use it, and then continue
to go to the left.  Go through the first room and the next one leads to the
boss.  Jump up and go through the breakable block, then kill the boss door when
its eye is open.  Go through the door to find that Ridley is not there, which
lets you go into the back room and get the Unknown Item #3 from the Chozo.
Then zap the block and go into the back room, where you will find yet another
energy tank (9).  Then go back to the big room and meet the boss of this
domain.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS: RIDLEY

You've been looking for him for some time, now you have finally found the beast
that haunts the lair.  If you have all of the upgrades that I have told you to
get up to this point, you should have no trouble brining this big bully down
and moving on to Mother Brain.
Make sure that you stay near the left side of the room during this entire
fight.  You need to blast away the things that Ridley throws at you with your
blaster and then pelt him with super missiles and normal missiles.  If he picks
you up, continually fire missiles at him and he will eventually return you to
the ground.  Continue the missile barrage to bring down the second of two
guardians and to see that the path to Tourian and Mother Brain has been opened.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Go out of Ridley's lair and shoot one of the enemies that comes out of the pipe
to freeze it, then hop on top and go through a disappearing wall.  Get back to
the shaft on the right side of the area, go up and blast a block with weird
symbols and go through a passage that will take you to the top.

Go left from the top of the shaft and use some of the enemies that come out of
the pipes as a foothold so that you can go to the top of the room and grab hold
of the missile tank (195).  Then jump to the left side of the room, use bombs
and missiles to get through the blocks in the floor, and you will be next to
the room with the elevator back to Norfiar.  Use it and get out of that
hellhole.

ITEM CHECKLIST:
You should have at this point:
195 slots for missiles
9 energy tanks
6 super missile slots
0 power bomb tanks

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Norfair
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Go immediately right from the elevator shaft, running into a broken Chozo
Statue.  Use a bomb to go down, and start running to the left.  You will run
over speed booster blocks and break them, go through to reveal a cannon.  Place
a bomb to launch up high, then go through.  At the top of the cannon's shot, go
through the door to the right.  Pass all items in the room and keep going left,
and then take the Screw Attack from the Chozo statue that is in the next room.
Now when you spin jump, you will go through any enemy and kill them instantly!
It is a very cool tool.

Use the new screw attack to the right of the room in which you found it to get
a missile tank (200).  Go down to the nearest save room, go out to the left and
go down one floor and to the right, the green door that you need to use a super
missile on to open.  Kill the enemies with the screw attack and keep going to
the right.  Shoot the blocks and roll through the hole.

When you get to a room that is has what looks like lava in the bottom, you will
find that it is yet another illusion and you can drop right through it.  Go
through the door at the bottom, and wait for an enemy to come out of the pipe.
When one does, freeze him near the super missile tank (8).  Wait for it to
become unfrozen, and then let it fly a little longer so that you can freeze it
and jump into the next room by shooting the wall.  Go through this room to get
a missile tank (205).

From the missile tank, run to the right and build up your speed boost.  Fly
through the corridor and go back into the false lava room.  Go up and to the
left, and start running.  Squat down and fly through the entire long corridor
and make your way back to the save room.

Go to the right through several rooms, using your screw attack to bring enemies
to their knees.  When you are in a large shaft on nearly the right side of the
area, go up as far as it seems you can go.  Now screw attack through the wall
to your right to bypass the barrier entirely.  Go through the first door that
you see to the left.

Go through the corridor until you reach a green door and head right through it.
Use your screw attack wisely until you get to a column that seems to block your
way.  Blast the top of it to reveal a missile tank (210).  Then continue to go
to the right and blast through the wall to the right, then get another super
missile tank (10). Use the speed boost and screw attack to clear out of this
area.

Back in the shaft, use the screw attack on the left side of the horizontal
barrier and go up until you pass the next door on the left and go through the
next one up.  Travel through the linear room and get a missile tank (215). Then
go back to the shaft and go down one level.  Use the speed boost to blast
through the room right to the elevator and out of this accursed level.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Brinstar
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Run fast from the corridor until you get to the tall shaft, then kneel down to
retain your charge.  Bomb through the floor, jump in ball form and hold left to
shoot to a super missile tank (12).  Then go all the way up to the room with
the 2 statue heads (Kraid and Ridley) that has now been opened because you have
beaten the two bosses.  Go through the room and down to the elevator to do
possibly the worst part of the game.  You will see the Metroids escape and come
after you.  Congratulations, you're a dead man.

You should have at this point:
215 slots for missiles
9 energy tanks
12 super missile slots
0 power bomb tanks

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Tourian
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Save immediately, things here will go very ugly very fast.  Go back into the
shaft and let me teach you about Metroids.

Hunting Metroids is not an easy task.  They appear from thin air and float down
to you.  You have to freeze them and then hit them with missiles to kill them,
and that is not easy, since there are usually several of them grouped together
in one area.  They often grab you and start to suck your health away.  If this
happens, quickly roll into a ball and drop several bombs to shake them off,
then freeze them and shoot the missiles to kill them.  That being said, let's
get to the real thing.

Go down the shaft and take care of the Metroid here, then go through the door
at the bottom right of the shaft.  Take out the Metroids in here with the
detailed tactics described above.  You have to kill them, it is part of your
mission, so you can't get out of the room until all Metroids have perished.
Jet through the next room, killing all present and going through the door to
the upper right hand corner.  Go straight through this room to the save room
and use it.

Go left from the save room and get missiles from the ring launchers here, and
then use the screw attack to break through the fragile floor.  There are many
Metroids here, take them on one-by one and exterminate all of them, going
through the door at the end of the passage.

There are 4 Metroids in this room, so Bomb the floor, go down slightly until
you see one, and then jump back up and let one of them follow you and take him
down.  Do this with the other three and go through the door.  Save your game,
this will be the last time before an important part.

Go to the right from the save room.  Stock up on health and missiles in the
next room by shooting the rings that are shot at you.  Once you have full
health and missiles, go save again and then go through the door at the right
end of the long ring corridor.

To get through this room, shoot the green things very fast with missiles.
Avoid the things that are being shot at you, and keep killing the pulsating
green things between the parts of the metal columns.  Go all the way until you
see... WHAT THE HELL IS THAT???

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS: MOTHER BRAIN

Yes, you finally get to meet the final boss of the first Metroid game, and she
is neither short nor sweet.  Get ready for the hardest fight yet.

It is advisable to freeze the ring things periodically so that you won't be
shot as often during the fight.  Once that is done, shoot a lot of missiles
rapid-fire at the tank that has encased Mother Brain, and eventually it will
shatter into a million pieces.  Now that that is done, you take on the worst
part of the fight.

Now Mother Brain will be firing at you, complicating the matter further.
Continue to freeze the rings around you whenever you have the chance, and take
stabs at the eye of the Brain with Super Missiles whenever it is vulnerable.
Use missiles once the super missiles run out, and eventually the Mother will
fall, giving way to a TIMED ESCAPE.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have to jump up the shaft with crumbling blocks.  Jump quickly, they will
crumble in a few seconds under your weight.  There are solid blocks on the side
of the shaft, use these to bide you time to jump.  Get all the way to the top
of the shaft and ride the elevator to Crateria.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Crateria
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Jump through the platforms, always heading upward.  Onward and upward, quickly.
When you get to the top, shoot away the blocks and run to the left through the
hatch, and then shoot through the speed booster blocks to your ship.  You've
done it, you've escaped.  You would think that this is the end.  Sadly, it's
not.

HOW CAN IT NOT BE OVER???

They threw in this terrible area, I'm completely positive that it was for the
sole reason of pissing me and only me off.  It is a terrible area, horrible.
Just awful.

Your power suit is gone, you are doing this one in a tight little jump suit,
but you must get your power suit back, so let's get to it.

Run through the first open space and crawl under the platform, then go up to
the next wall, see that you can't go through the green door, and go down to the
bottom of the area.  Shoot at the bottom of the wall and crawl through into the
worst area of the game.

Get the map of the accursed area and then save your game in the appropriate
room.  Jump up after saving and grab onto the ledge and crawl through the small
tunnel.  You'll see the first space pirate in this room, the alarm will sound
and more will come.  Freeze the ones that you can with your weak pistol and go
out the door.

Use the nook above the doorway in the next room to hide from the pursuing red
pirates.  One will walk in, look for you, fail to find you, leave, and the
alarms will turn off.  As long as you stay away from the space pirates, you
should be fine.  But, as that is nearly impossible, you won't be fine.

Go through the corridor and go to the right into a room with green trip lasers.
If you touch one, the alarms will be set off, so don't hit any of them.  You
have to hit one of them, so except the inevitability and go through the door to
the top right.

Keep going up in the next series of rooms, trying to hide from the pirates and
not setting off any alarms.  Hide at the top of the shaft on one of the
platforms that juts out from the wall.  Go up the shaft and go out the door at
the top left.  Once the walls rise, move on to the left.

Crawl through the tunnel and see the craft that will help you to get out of
here.  Go into the save room and replenish your health and, more importantly,
save your progress.  Go out the door, through the next room, and into the tall
shaft.

You have to use your blaster to get to a safe place at the bottom so that the
alarms can go off, eventually you will find the way if you just keep firing.
Avoiding the space pirates is tough here, but you should be able to do it.
It's not as bad as the final boss.

Go through the door at the bottom of the tall shaft to find yourself in
another.  When climbing here, avoid the yellow spotlights, they will cause you
to set off alarms, and that is very bad at this point.  Make your way up to the
save room that you haven't been to yet.  If the space pirates see you, hide
under overhangs to get them to leave.

Go left from the save room to find a room that is packed with more of those
lasers that you love so much.  Go to the upper left hand corner, avoiding the
beams.  If you get caught, hide in the alcove in the next room.  Then go
through the left door.  Fall down the shaft after going to the left slightly,
then go through the door at the bottom.

Here is where the ruins chase begins, and here is the part that I really don't
like.  You have to go down and to the left, and then go straight up.  Looking
at your map, look at the upper left hand corner of the ruins.  That is where
you need to go.

You will be spotted, go to the left and keep running, even as you fall down a
short shaft and go through a glass tube that signifies the end of the space
ship.  But the nightmare isn't over yet.

Crawl through the tunnel a few rooms down and avoid the pirates in the alcove.
When all is clear, go to the save room to recharge and make sure that what
you've just done is permanently saved.  Then exit to the left.

The next part is just following the meandering tunnels to the top-left corner
of your map.  Avoid searchlights, hide behind blocks to avoid the eyes, and
good luck as you go upward.  Hide from the pirates anywhere possible, and try
every possible route to get to the top.  Good luck getting there, you will be
happy once you do.

You have to now fight a creature that has your Power Suit.  It has a mirror,
and when you see yourself, don't fire at it, you will just be hurt.  Fire when
it changes to a weird symbol.  Repeat this four times to finally defeat the
boss and get your FULLY-POWERED SUIT, complete with known items.

Get out of the room and prepare for payback on the god-awful space pirates.  Go
to the upper right corner of the room to get out.  Go down to he nearest save
room and use it.  Then go out, blow a hole in the bridge with your missiles,
and drop in.  The gravity suit will allow you to run through the water,
charging through the speed booster blocks and getting you another super missile
tank (14).

From there, use the space jump to jump to a ledge above the water.  Use bombs
to find the missile block, shoot at it.  Then roll through the hole to get a
missile tank (220).  Then go all the way to the bottom of the shaft and go out
to the left.

You should see a small access point to a lava pit, use a bomb to open it up and
go through it to get yet another super missile tank (16).  Use the space jump
to get out of the lava and head left through the morph ball tunnel.

You can blow up the eye sensors here, and then kill the space pirates that have
wronged you.  Go through the door at the bottom of the shaft, and then go into
the short shaft that is just below it by going to the bottom and rolling in.
Fire a missile at the wall to uncover a super missile tank (18).

From here, go to the right and travel to the nearest save room and save and
fill your tanks.  Keep going to the left, go up through the shaft, go through
the door to the top-right in the large room.  Travel through 2 linear rooms,
taking care of the space pirates that are in there.  Go up the really tall
shaft that is almost exactly in the middle of the structure.  Watch out for the
black space pirates, they are very tough to kill, but don't follow you from
room to room.  Get to the central save room to save and regroup for another
run.

Go to the right from the save room, blast through the ceiling and go through
the red door.  Go up to the top and shoot through the ceiling with missiles,
get the super missile tank (20).  Then go to the save room to the right of the
one that you just used and use it.

Go to the left from the save room, go up and hit the red door with a missile
and then go through it.  Roll through the tunnel and start shooting missiles at
the black pirate when you come out.  Once he's dead, head on up.  Go to left to
the nearest square room.

Go to the top of the room and shoot the gold robot with missiles to make it
move faster, then go through the door at the top left of the room.  Take the
shaft and go through the bottom left door.  Go through the tunnel to the next
room.  Go up the small shaft to the top right door.  Use the meandering tunnel
here to get through the room.  Go into the ship's hull, go over by the glass
and use a bomb in that corner.  You will drop through a vertical tunnel and
will see a space pirate walk away with something, go on to the next room.

Take the super bomb tank (2) from the pedestal here.  Jump over the trip wires
and use the new toys to open the yellow door to your right and then you should
happily walk through it.

Use a power bomb in this room to open up the ceiling, then kill the pirates and
take their power bomb tank (4).  Then make your way back up the shaft that you
came down to get the power bomb, and go back into the area that is the ship's
hull (there is glass on the left side of the screen).  Get back to where you
saw a yellow door in the middle of the ship and regroup there.

Use a power bomb to blow open the hatch, the blast at the tank and jump to it
to get a super missile tank (22).  Now go down the series of small shafts to
the right of this room, ever going down.  You need to get to the lower-right
corner of the area.  When you get to what seems to be a dead end at the bottom
of one of the small shafts, use a power bomb to keep going onward.  Get down to
the save room and map room and go through these rooms.  In the horizontal room,
shoot at the ceiling to find your super missile tank (24).

Keep going to the right and use a super missile to open the green hatch at the
end of the corridor.  Roll through the tunnel and get to an open area that
looks like a square on your map, and it is also where you entered this accursed
place.  Use your space jump up and to the left to get to a ledge.  Use a power
bomb to uncover a power bomb tank (6).  Roll through the tunnel that you also
revealed to go back into the ship, and then travel back to the central save
room.

Go left from the save room in the middle, then left twice more, and drop down
the long shaft.  Make your way back to the glass tube.  Use a power bomb on it
to break it to pieces, then drop down and travel to the right.  Use a power
bomb on the wall at the right end, then back up and run through it so that you
can charge your speed booster.  Press down once when you are about to hit the
right wall in this room, then press A and hold up to shoot up to a super
missile tank (26).  Then go back to the place where you shattered the glass
tube and head left.

Use a power bomb on the left side, then go through and fall down a long narrow
shaft.  Kill all of the enemies at the bottom, and then run from left to right,
then kneel down to keep charged.  Go back under the shaft, hold A and press Up
to shoot up it to another energy tank (10).

From the energy tank, go down to the nearest save room and be sure to make use
of it.  Then go to the right thrice until you get to a one-screen wide room
that has a bump in the middle of the floor.  Jump through the illusion in the
ceiling, roll through the maze and go get the super missile tank (28).  Then
drop down and go to the right to emerge in a large room near the lower-left
hand corner of the area.

Use a power bomb in this room to open up blocks in the maze.  As you progress
through it, use another power bomb to break all the blocks.  Eventually you
will reach another super missile tank (30).  Then go through the top left door,
run through the passage and use a power bomb to open up the way back to
Crateria.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Crateria
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Once through the yellow hatch, use the space jump to go all the way up through
the hole in the ceiling and you will be back in the world of the Chozo.  Space
jump up to the mouth of a Chozo, and use a power bomb to open the hatch.  Run a
ways to the right to charge up the speed booster, then stop and run the other
way.  Kneel down in the mouth of the Chozo, then fall to a ledge, roll into a
morph ball, jump up and shoot off to the left, netting yourself a missile tank
(225).

Go back inside the Chozo's mouth, run in and then run out, crouching at the
edge yet again. Space jump to the area on top of where you are, then shoot off
through the speed booster blocks to collect a super missile tank (32).  Then go
down through the room, fire at the block and leave the room.  Recharge at the
Chozo, and go back to the elevator room.

Use a power bomb to destroy the blocks that are here, the back up and run over
them into the next room, go through the speed booster blocks and keep running.
When you hit the obstacle in the open area, kneel, roll into a bal, jump up
onto it, and take off for the upper left corner of the room.  You should jump
right into a power bomb tank (8).

Go back to the elevator room and perform the same task as before, except don't
roll into a ball at the obstacle in the big room.  Instead, run forward and
jump and hold left at the small bump in the road.  Keep flying through the
speed booster blocks, and it is basically a vertical trip to Tourian.

MY SOURCE FOR THIS PART IS NINTENDO POWER, I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET
THESE ITEMS ON MY OWN.

Fall all the way down the tall shaft.  Go left from there to where you killed
Mother Brain and use a power bomb, then use a super missile on the block there
and drop down to the power bomb tank (10).

Go back to the long corridor that you used to get items before the big fight
and start running to the left.  When you get to a bump in the road, fly through
the room by using the space jump.  Jump into the big shaft and through the wall
at the end, and shoot the floor to get a missile tank (230).  Then fly up the
shaft with the space jump and go back into Crateria.

ONCE AGAIN, I LOVE NINTENDO POWER AND THEIR GREAT TIPS, I SPENT HOURS TRYING TO
GET TO ALL OF THE ITEMS HERE AND I USED IT TO FIND THEM.  ALMOST ALL OF THE
ITEMS FROM HERE ON I FOUND USING THE NINTENDO POWER GUIDE.

From the elevator, go to the room directly below the save room and go to the
left.  Use your bombs to break the floor at the bottom of the pool open.  Run
to the right to charge up, and then kneel down before the wall.  Shoot off and
form a morph ball at the bump in the rod, then shoot off to the right through
the wall to get a missile tank (235).  Then get back to the central shaft of
the level.
You're done here, make your way to the far-right side save room of the area and
use the screw attack to cut through the wall and go into Norfair.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Use a power bomb and missiles to break into the section below.  Fall through
the optical illusion of the lava, then go down to the big lava pool.  You can
go in here because of the gravity suit.  Use missiles on the floor, then go
down and make your way to the blue hatch, going through it.  Make your way
through the meandering passages to another missile tank (240).  Go back to the
level of the hatch, then turn to the left and open up the passage with
missiles, and wander in to get a power bomb tank (12).

Next, make your way all the way to the path to Ridley, and go down the
elevator.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Ridley
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Travel down one level and to the right from the elevator.  Blast through the
ceiling to take a shortcut to where you need to go.  Go over to the right-side
shaft in the level, and get to the very bottom via the speed booster technique
that you have used many times before.  Go past the save room and go as far to
the left as you can go without jumping, then run to the right through the save
room and into the shaft.  Kneel down, jump to the next level, and blaze a trail
to the right.

Go through the blue hatch, running.  When you get to the right side of this
room, kneel down and shoot upward through the blocks.  Then use a bomb and the
space jump to get to the missile tank (245).  Charge your booster as you run to
the left out of the room.  Kneel down under the indentation in the ceiling and
shoot up through it to reveal another passage.  Run to the right and use the
speed booster and your beam to break through all the blocks to your FINAL
MISSILE TANK (250).  WOW, you finally got all of the missiles!  Give yourself a
pat on the back.

Run all the way back to where you got your first missile tank and then climb up
the shaft (DON"T GO ON THE ELEVATOR!!!) to get back to Crateria, for the final
time.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Crateria
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Space jump up through the ruins until you get to the big room on the right side
of the area.  Go through the Chozo's mouth and go back to Chozodia for the last
few upgrades and the final boss.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Chozodia
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

From the entrance, fall down, go to the left and fire a missile at the wall to
reveal a power bomb tank (14).  Then use missiles on the right side of the nook
to get back to the main section of the area.

Make your way up through the ruins, and get back to the place with a statue
that once held the power bomb tank that the Space Pirate carried away.  Then go
into the tall shaft to the right, go up, and hit the block impeding progress to
the left with a power bomb.  Kill all the space pirates, go down the passage,
and hit the ceiling near the end with a missile to reveal the last power bomb
tank (16).  Then go to the save room at the top of the left side of the area
and save and recharge.

Look on the maps that I provided in the previous section of the closest energy
tank in this area, and get to that room (it is tough to explain how).  Run to
the right and fire up at the blocks.  Kneel at the wall, jump up to the next
level and blast to the left.  Kneel again after the gentle slope.  Jump up to
the next right ledge, then blast off in that direction and quickly kneel at the
slope.  Jump up to the next platform, blast off to the left and quickly kneel
again when you hit the slope.  Jump back to the right and blast off to the
right and run over some inclines and through blocks to get an energy tank (11).

Now make your way back into the ship and up to the top-right corner of the
area, your mission is almost over.  Use the top-right save room, go to the left
two rooms, and make your way up one level.  Go through the room, using a power
bomb to open up a tiny tunnel.  Run all the way up to the red hatch, then stop.
Run back to the left and build up the speed booster, jump before you hit the
ledge, and crash through the floor.  Use the space jump in this room to avoid
all of the lasers and make your way to the final energy tank (12).  If you
fail, just restart the game and return again.  Then make your way back to the
red hatch that you stopped at before and go through it to reach the final boss.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS: MECHA-RIDLEY

This is the hardest part of the game in my opinion.  Use your missiles to shoot
away the glass thing on the boss's chest.  Once that is gone, hit the resulting
weak spot with about 5 super missiles to end the fight.

That is not as easy as it sounds.  Space jump to avoid Mecha-Ridley's claws and
his fireballs, as well as his lasers.  Use the screw attack to chew up his
missiles and collect the rewards.  If you get past all of these obstacles and
bring him down, you get another TIMED ESCAPE!!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The end of the game is linear; the right doors will be open.  Look at your map,
all you have to do is get back to the ship that you saw earlier.  Use your
blaster to go over the metal door, blast the top of the column a few rooms down
and fall through the hole to get out of the room.  Follow your map to the ship
room, and drop down to the hatches.  Kill the black space  pirates and the
pirate that jumps out of the ship and you are home free.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE NOW DONE WITH THE NORMAL MODE 100% OF THE GAME.

<> 7.  Low-Percentage Boss Guide                                  0007      <>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

I figure that some of you are really bored of playing the game and getting 100%
of the total items that are available, just like I am.  But I want to add more
on to this guide, so I decided to write a good strategy to fight all of the
bosses if you are going for a low completion percentage in the game, like 15%
or 9%.  I added in some bosses that I didn't consider bosses in the 100%
walkthrough because they were much easier to beat there than they are here.  A
15% guide may come in the future for me, but for now just use the above
strategy guide along with the revised boss strategies to get a low percentage
overall in the game.  Good luck.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIRST WORM

This boss is pretty easy to defeat because in the normal game you only had a
low amount of missiles to being with.  Dodge its head attacks and fire into its
eye whenever it is open.  Shoot the spikes that it sheds to get extra energy
and missiles.  Once you get three shots into its eye it will be dead, leaving
you to contemplate whether you want the charge beam or not.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KRAID

This is a pretty easy boss if you know what to do.  Immediately inside the
room, fire a missile at his eye and then fire as many as you have into his
mouth, and then jump back to the platform to the upper right corner of the
screen.  From here, angle your weapon up and to the left and shoot at all of
the claws that are coming at you, you will get missiles and energy for them.
Eventually the platforms will be destroyed and you will have to shoot the eye
and the mouth with energy blasts and any missiles that you can find from the
claws that he shoots off in your direction (the ones that look like toenails
are the ones that give you items, the bigger ones only are there so that you
can jump on top of them and take aim at the head of the boss.  Repeat the
process of shooting Kraid to watch him fall.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECOND WORM

This is actually one of the least tough fights in the game because the boss
follows the same pattern for the duration of the entire boss fight.  You need
to stand on one side of the center of the pool, wait for the boss's pincers to
close twice, then jump up quickly, ride to the other side, and shoot him with
missiles and charged shots.  If you stay on the far side of either side of the
room, he will shoot fireballs at you and you can destroy these to give you
health and weapons.  Watch out of the rising lava levels, they are the biggest
threat to your health.  If you keep hitting the boss with missiles, eventually
he should be downed and you should be the last man standing in the arena,
congratulations.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RIDLEY

You can actually skip the entire fight with Kraid if you are crafty enough,
refer to one of the low-percentage guides to find out exactly how to do it.
Then you can come back to this area to fight with Ridley, the second of the
guardians of Mother Brain.  He's actually not that hard to beat.  You just need
to stand on one side of the arena when he is shooting his fireballs and you
need to shoot them to get missiles and energy, and then use that to shoot at
the boss.  When he starts to swoop down on you, try to stay under him and
mirror his images until he goes into another fireball rampage.  With enough
missiles plugged into him, Ridley will fall and you will be the victor over
this boss that was pretty tough.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MOTHER BRAIN

A very tough fight lies in wait in the lair of Mother Brain.  Remember how
tough she was when you were playing the game with a lot of upgrades?  Now
consider the situation that you are currently in, and leave the swearing to the
Brain.  This is three parts skill and seven parts luck, so give this one a lot
of time as you go after it in a lot of tries.  You need to use the rings to get
more missiles as you fire at the shell of the tank, and this is easy enough
compared to the actual fight against her.  Once the shell is destroyed, jump up
on the top block and get full missiles with the rings, then drop down, dodge
any shots that Mother Brain has in store for you, and shoot some missiles into
her eye.  Repeat this strategy until she is killed, which is much easier said
than done.  Make sure not to fall into the lava, that can be very hazardous to
your health and will probably get you killed on this low of a percentage.  Keep
at it, modify this strategy to meet your needs, and then finally take down the
number one Brain.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MECHA-RIDLEY

This is a tough fight any way you conceive it, but I try to make it much easier
by using the screw attack to dodge many of the missile attacks.  Start off by
space jumping and hugging the left wall to dodge all of the fireballs that he
uses, then dodge the claw using the same space jump.  Use your missiles to get
the glass of his midsection open, and then the fun really begins.  Use the
screw attack (if you have it) and the space jump against the wall to the left
of the room to destroy the missiles that he gives off and to take the benefits
of what is dropped out of them, and then use the same technique to rid yourself
of the pesky laser attack that he has.  If you hug the wall with a constant
space jump and get the timing of avoiding the attacks down while doing this,
this fight shouldn't be too hard for you.  Just aim at his exposed chest and
pump missiles into it at will, game over.  Have fun with the escape, it's
really not fun on this difficulty.

GAME INTRO SCREEN:
Emergency order: eliminate all metroid organisms on Planet Zebes, and defeat
the mechanical life-form, Mother Brain.

Wow, this one's a toughie.  I think that your mission is to beat all of the
Metroids and kill Mother Brain.  Of course, you probably knew that this was the
case before you played the game, as I did.  At any rate, this is your mission
through the entire game, so you have to figure that it is pretty important as
the game goes on.
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
STARTING THE GAME:
Planet Zebes... I called this place home once, in peaceful times, long before
evil haunted the caverns below.  Now, I shall finally tell the tale of my first
battle here... My so-called Zero Mission.
-Samus Aran

This is a pretty interesting one, we get a good look back into Samus's past.
We see where she comes from, I wonder if that will be important later on in the
story of the game.
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
GOING DOWN THE ELEVATOR TO NORFAIR
You see Mother Brain, she has the reflection of Samus in her eye.

What can this mean?  Well, it's very simple when you think about it.  Mother
Brain is seeing that Samus is coming to get her and is preparing for it.  Uh
oh.
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
AFTER YOY DEFEAT KRAID
The eyes on one head of the two-headed statue start to glow

This is a tough one to interpret, I think that it means that you are getting
closer to Mother Brain, and closer to the end of the game.  But that's just an
educated guess coming from someone who's beaten the game four times and written
a guide on how to get all of the items, so you must examine the credibility of
the statement.
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
LEAVING KRAID
You see a dragon-type creature in a ship landing on the planet.

This can only mean one thing, the infamous Ridley that is in all of the Metroid
games is after you, so you better run fast in that direction.  Very, very fast,
in that direction.
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
AFTER DEFEATING RIDLEY
You see the second of the two heads on the statue light up

The way to Mother Brain is paved, just go back there and you will be able to
light up the creature that you came here for.  Now that you feel good about
yourself, look how much of the story is left.
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
AFTER DEFEATING MOTHER BRAIN
How can it not be over???

Yes, indeed, it is not over.  The developers at Nintendo added this detestable
ending level, which I hate.  I hate everything about it, absolutely everything.
At least it's an excuse to play more Metroid
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
AFTER GETTING YOUR FULLY POWERED SUIT
You see some interesting drawings and creatures

You must assume that the place where you were effectively fighting yourself,
this is where you used to play when you were a child.  The creatures that
helped you in that time apparently benefit from the defeat of you, so give
yourself a big pat on the back, you saved a bunch of weird space creatures from
certain death (or so I assume).
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
AFTER THE GAME IS OVER
You fly away.  Fin.

It's all over, your adventure is finally over.  Based on how fast you beat the
game or how many items you collected during the adventure, you will be able to
see different ending cinematics, which are outlined in the Secrets section of
the guide.  You are finally done with the game, I hope you had a good time
reading this terrible guide.

BASIC SUMMARY OF THE GAME PLOT (SPOILERS AHEAD):

You are sent to Planet Zebes to kill all of the Metroids there and to kill
Mother Brain, too.  You set down on the planet and embark on a long journey and
you reach the first of two guardians to Mother Brain, Kraid.  Once he is
defeated, part of the door to Mother Brain is ready to be opened.  Then you set
off on another long journey and you meet and defeat the second of the two
guardians, Ridley.  After he has been downed, the door to Mother Brain opens
and you finally get a go at the beast that you are after.  Once she is
defeated, you get to escape from the planet.  This is where the original game
ends, but Zero Mission takes it a step further and you get ambushed by Space
Pirates and forced to land and infiltrate their ship.  Eventually, you will
find your mirror-image and discover the people that helped you in your
childhood.  Then you will find Mecha-Ridley and the way out of the entire
nightmare, game over.

Q: I found fault in your guide, I'm going to firebomb your house
A: Woah, take your time before you decide that my family and I should die.  Why
don't you try emailing me and telling me what the problem is, and, if I don't
fix it or respond, you can light up your own house in anger?  Sounds like a
fair deal to me.

Q: I like your work!  Is there any way that I can work with you on a future
guide or help to make this one better?
A: Congratulations, you're the first one to actually like my work, and most
likely the last.  I always welcome help on my guides.  If you have a small
contribution to make, just send it to me, I will most likely put it in the
guide, and I will cite your name by your contribution.  If you have a huge
contribution to the guide, I will make you a co-author and the credit will be
shared.  Also, if you want to work on further guides for games, just contact me
with any necessary data, I will be free to work on another guide after I am
finished here.

Q: Hey, I want to put your guide on my site!  Can I?
A: If your name isn't Jeff Veasy, no.  I don't like putting my work on other
sites, it just creates a hassle and always creates problems.  So I just don't
do it.

Q: Why did you make fun of me or a group that I am in here?  I am disgusted,
and I demand an apology.
A: Yes, I do make fun of a few people and many more groups, I just do this
automatically, it's what I do.  But, you have to admit, I make fun of myself
just as much if not more than everyone else, I just try to balance it that way.
If you think I'm mean, send me a letter bomb.
