This was written mainly due to me realizing that there were not any Battle Chip
Code Location FAQs for the site. Some of the walkthroughs noted where to get the
one-time mystery data and one even had some data on random mystery data, but
there was no information on drops after battle. After some painstaking time, I
tried to compile all the information that I could find, even if it meant playing
the game multiple times.
Feel free to tell me things about the FAQ, such as where a chip in a specific
code is actually found in spots I don't have listed. Everything I've listed can
be found in that specific location; whether it's easy to find there is another
story completely. Howitzer As can be found in random mystery data, though good
luck actually managing to get one.
All chips, except for 176. Bass F, can be found in the chip trader. I believe
the chip trader itself is rigged to give certain chips in certain codes if you
don't already have one - notably, Dropdown B, which is required for an in-game
trade with an NPC and is practically impossible to get from the enemy since it's
a rare drop at a high rank.
The 3-chip trader and the 10-chip trader, if you choose to go that route, are
located in Higsby's shop.
Some chips are listed as chip trader exclusive, meaning that's the only place to
get them. If you find that the chips aren't chip trader exclusive, please tell
me! I do lurk on the Battle Network 1 boards, and a simple topic will get my
attention quite fast.
Some chips will have the same ranks required for it to drop it. If this is the
case, like with TriSpear (G, H, I, and J all drop at 9 Rank, though some are
rarer than the others), then it all comes down to luck and how likely it is to
drop at that rank.
The names for the viruses used are from the later games where the viruses are
named in-battle, or from E-Reader cards, or just transliterations of the
original Japanese name for the virus.
In regards to Mystery Data - if you've played later games in the series, you'll
note that blue Mystery Data are one-time, green Mystery Data are random, and
purple Mystery Data are locked. That is not the case in this game - both blue
and green Mystery Data are random and one-time, and the single purple Mystery
Data in the game is also one-time and not locked (why is it even there...).
