A. INTRODUCTION
===============
Greetings everyone!  After three years of retirement from FAQ writing (I'm
most well known for my Legends FAQs), I've decided to take another crack at
it with my series of NaviCust Setup Guides.  While there are plenty of
guides that discuss how to build the best chip folder, there are none out
there that go over how to build the best NaviCust Setup, until now.

In this guide, I will show you how to build the best NaviCust Setup for many
purposes and situations throught this game.  I will start with some that I
made myself which should get you through almost all your needs, but I also
include a section of submitted NaviCust Setups sent in by other GameFAQs and
MegaMan Network members (in those cases the comments section is by the
creator of the Setup and not by me).

========================
B. NAVICUST SETUP BASICS
========================

1. Rules
========
Although the game itself covers these basics in the tutortial email you get
with your NaviCust, here are the basic rules to remember when designing your
own NaviCust Setups.  First off, here is what the NaviCust map looks like:

No ExpMemories:     One ExpMemory:     Both ExpMemories:
| | | | |           | | | | | |        | | | | | |
| | | | |           | | | | | |        | | | | | |
| | | | |=>         | | | | | |=>      | | | | | |=>
| | | | |           | | | | | |        | | | | | |
                                      | | | | | |

You start out with sixteen squares in your NaviCust, with four squares on
the Command Line.  After collecting one ExpMemory, the map increases to
twenty squares with five squares on the Command Line, and with both
ExpMemories, the map will have a full twenty-five squares just waiting to be
filled with your favorite programs!

Also as a reminder, be sure to remember the basic rules for NaviCust Setup
building in order to avoid unpleasant bugs:

1. All solid color programs MUST be on the Command Line in order to
function, even if you are using the BugStopper.
2. All textured color programs MUST NOT be on the Command Line, unless you
are using the BugStopper.
3. You are only allowed to use up to FOUR different colors of programs at a
time, unless you are using the BugStopper.
4. Programs of the same color MUST NOT be allowed to touch one another,
unless you are using the BugStopper.  They can touch the corners, but not
the sides.  These are the abbreviations for all the colors:
  P: Pink
  Y: Yellow
  W: White
  B: Blue
  R: Red
  G: Green
  *: Any color (for programs that come in more than one color)
5. All these NaviCust Setups assume that you have the full twenty-five
square NaviCust map (although I also include the best way, IMO, to use a
sixteen or twenty square NaviCust map), you have all the appopriate Spin Key
Items (SpinPink, SpinYelo, SpinWhit, etc), and do NOT use any bugs unless
otherwise stated (most common exception is placing the SneakRun or Collect
program off the Command Line to attract more battles or get zenny instead of
chips respectively).
6. I do NOT include any Setups made for NetBattling, nor do any include
NetBattle-only programs (Rush/Beat/Tango) since I have no one available to
NetBattle with.  ALL these Setups were designed with the main single-player
game in mind.

2. NaviCust Setup Sub-Themes
============================
Some of these NaviCust Setups include three sub-themes to reflect the three
major styles of gameplay:
  a. MegaBuster Sub-Theme: This is for players who prefer to have as strong
     a Mega Buster as possible as well as for those who don't have the
     neccesary programs for the CustomMenu and Mega Chip sub-themes.
  b. CustomMenu Sub-Theme: If you like to have as many chips in the Custom
     Menu as possible, then this sub-theme is for you.
  c. Mega Chip Sub-Theme: Players who love to abuse Mega/Navi chips will
     probably take a liking to this sub-theme.

3. Complete List of Programs
============================
Here is a list of all 65 programs in this game (62 if you don't count the
Rush/Tango/Beat programs, which are useless in the main single player game).
To use the compression codes (where applicable), highlight the program on
your program list (DON'T select it or place it on the NaviCust), then press
and hold right on the D-Pad while entering the code.  All NaviCust Setups in
this guide use COMPRESSED programs.

01. Sweet Sixteen
=================
|1| |1|3|    Buster
|1|1|1|3|    Atk: 5
|1|1|1|2|=>  Spd: 5
|4|5| | |    Chg: 5

1. BustPack (B)
2. UnderSht (W)
3. Attack+1 (P)
4. Speed+1 (W)
5. Charge+1 (Y)

COMMENTS:
This is the best NaviCust Setup to use starting out.  This gives you a maxed
out buster and will protect you from a fatal hit as long as your HP is 2 or
greater.

02. Plenty in Twenty
====================
|1|1|1|4| |    Buster
|1|1|1|4|6|    Atk: 5
|1|2|1|2|3|=>  Spd: 5
|5|2|2|2|2|    Chg: 5

1. BustPack (B)
2. Collect (Y)
3. UnderSht (W)
4. Attack+1 (P)
5. Speed+1 (W)
6. Charge+1 (Y)
(need SpinYllw for this one)

COMMENTS:
This is the best NaviCust Setup to use after getting the first ExpMemory.
Not only will you have a maxed out MegaBuster and UnderSht protection, but
you are also guaranteed a chip after every battle with the Collect program.
This is especially important as it makes getting all the chips and program
advances much, much easier.

03. Chip Lovers

2. Collect (Y)            2. Collect (Y)            2. MegFldr1 (G)
3. BugStop (W)            3. BugStop (W)            3. Collect (Y)
4. Attack+1 (W)           4. AttckMAX (Y)           4. ChargMAX (W)
5. Charge+1 (W)           5. Charge+1 (*)           5. Attack+1 (P)
6. Speed+1 (W)            6. Charge+1 (*)           6. Attack+1 (W)
7. SneakRun (B)           7. Charge+1 (*)           7. Attack+1 (Y)
                                                   8. Speed+1 (P)

COMMENTS:
Although this is similar to the Plenty in Twenty Setup, this takes full
advantage of the twenty-five square map.  By placing the SneakRun off the
Command Line in the MegaBuster sub-theme, you will attract more battles
making collecting chips even faster.  This is perfect for players who love
abusing chip traders.  You can of course, omit the SneakRun program if you
prefer not having so many battles.

04. Zenny Lovers

6. UnderSht (W)           6. Attack+1 (Y)           6. Attack+1 (W)
7. SneakRun (B)           7. Charge+1 (Y)           7. Attack+1 (Y)
                         8. Charge+1 (W)           8. Charge+1 (Y)
                                                   9. Charge+1 (W)
                                                   0. Speed+1 (*)

COMMENTS:
Have you earned your Standard Chip badge, gotten all the program advances
you can, and now need tons of zenny to buy up all the HP Memories and other
goodies?  Then this Setup is for you!  By placing the Collect program off
the Command Line, you're guaranteed to get zenny (or occassionally, a HP
recovery) instead of a chip after every battle.

05. Zenny Lovers Supreme

3. UnderSht (W)           3. Custom1 (B)            3. MegFldr1 (G)
4. AttckMAX (Y)           4. UnderSht (W)           4. MegFldr1 (G)
5. ChargMAX (W)           5. Attack+1 (W)           5. BugStop (W)
6. Speed+1 (W)            6. Attack+1 (Y)           6. Attack+1 (*)
7. SneakRun (B)           7. Charge+1 (W)           7. Attack+1 (*)
                         8. Charge+1 (Y)           8. Charge+1 (*)
                         9. Speed+1 (W)            9. Charge+1 (*)

COMMENTS:
In addition to all the benefits you get from the Zenny Lovers Setup, the
addition of the Millions program also guarantees that all GMDs will give you
zenny too!  The main catch is that the Millions program costs 22 bugfrags,
so it's probably not a good idea to use precious bugfrags to buy this
program until you've bought the GigaChip #5 and the two MegaChips from the
BugFrag dealers first.

06. Custom Menu Lovers
======================
|5|5|4|4|4|    Buster
|5|4|4|4|4|    ------
|2|3|3|1|1|=>  Atk: 5
|2|2|1|1|1|    Spd: 3
|6|2|1|1|7|    Chg: 5

1. Custom2 (B)
2. Custom1 (B)
3. BugStop (W)
4. AttckMAX (Y)
5. ChargMAX (W)
6. Speed+1 (W)
7. Speed+1 (P)

COMMENTS:
This Setup will give you a full EIGHT chips to choose from in the Custom
Menu instead of the standard five.  Unfortunately, even though there is an
additional Custom1 program available, it is still not possible to have more
than eight chips in the Custom Menu (except for the Number Soul in Team
Colonel, which gives you ten).

07. Mega Chip Lovers
====================
|5|5|5|5|7|    Buster
|5|5|5|2|2|    ------
|3|4|4|2|1|=>  Atk: 5
|3|3|6|1|1|    Spd: 3

2. MegFldr1 (G)
3. MegFldr1 (G)
4. BugStop (W)
5. AttckMAX (W)
6. ChargMAX (W)
7. Speed+1 (P)
8. Speed+1 (W)

COMMENTS:
Are you the kind of player that just loves to have as many Mega/Navi chips
as possible?  Then this Setup will allow you to have up to NINE (yes, NINE)
Mega/Navi chips in your folder.

08. Custom/Mega Combo
=====================
|5|5|8|1|1|    Buster
|4|4|1|1|1|    ------
|2|4|1|1|3|=>  Atk: 3
|2|2|6|3|3|    Spd: 1
|7|2|6|3|3|    Chg: 3

1. Custom2 (B)
2. Custom1 (B)
3. MegFldr2 (G)
4. MegFldr1 (G)
5. Attack+1 (W)
6. Attack+1 (Y)
7. Charge+1 (W)
8. Charge+1 (Y)

COMMENTS:
Can't decide whether you want more chips in the Custom Menu or more
Mega/Navi chips?  Then give this Setup a try.  It gives you a choice of
eight chips in the Custom Menu and seven Mega/Navi chips in your folder.
The only catch is that you'll have to make a small sacrifice in the
MegaBuster department.  Still, this is a very balanced Setup overall.

09. Giga Chip Lovers
====================
MegaBuster Sub-Themed:    CustomMenu Sub-Themed:    Mega Chip Sub-Themed:
----------------------    ----------------------    ---------------------

3. ChargMAX (W)           3. UnderSht (W)           3. MegFldr1 (G)
4. SpeedMAX (P)           4. AttckMAX (Y)           4. UnderSht (W)
5. UnderSht (W)           5. Charge+1 (W)           5. Attack+1 (P)
                         6. Charge+1 (Y)           6. Attack+1 (W)
                                                   7. ChargMAX (W)
                                                   8. Speed+1 (W)

COMMENTS:
Is one Giga Chip just not enough for you?  Then this Setup will let you use
TWO Giga Chips in your folder and give you a maxed out MegaBuster.

10. Giga Chip Lovers Supreme
============================
|1|4|4|2|2|    Buster
|1|1|2|2|2|    ------
|1|1|2|2|3|=>  Atk: 2

1. GigChip1 (R)
2. Custom2 (B)
3. MegFldr2 (G)
4. Attack+1 (W)
5. ChargMAX (W)

COMMENTS:
This is the ultimate in pure folder power.  Two Giga Chips, seven Mega
Chips, and seven chips in the Custom Menu.  Wow!  That is, if you don't mind
the very weak MegaBuster.

11. HP Lovers
=============
|1|1|1|1|1|    Buster
|1|1|1|1|1|    ------
|3|3|3|4|4|=>  Atk: 1
|2|2|2|2|2|    Spd: 1

1. HP+500 (P)
2. HP+500 (W)
3. HP+50 (*)
4. BugStop (W)

COMMENTS:
Although this is probably the most one-sided of all the Setups (minimal
MegaBuster, Custom Menu, and Mega/Navi chip capacity), you do get the most
extra HP possible (1050 HP).  With all the HP Memories, it is possible to
have up to 2050 HP!

12. HP Lovers Supreme
=====================
|2|2|2|2| |    Buster
|2|2|2|2| |    ------
|3|3|3|3| |=>  Atk: 1
|1|1|1|1|1|    Spd: 1
|1|1|1|1|1|    Chg: 1

1. HP+500 (W)
2. HP+400 (W or Y)
3. AutoHeal (P)

COMMENTS:
Although this Setup adds "only" 900 extra HP, it more than makes up for the
150 HP difference with the use of the AutoHeal program (which is not
possible in the HP Lovers Setup without a HP drain bug).  The AutoHeal
automatically recovers 10% of your max HP, which with all the HP Memories,
is an automatic 190 HP recovery after every battle!

13. Defense, Defense, Defense!

5. SpeedMAX (P)           5. Attack+1 (W)           5. Attack+1 (W)
                         6. Attack+1 (Y)           6. Attack+1 (Y)
                         7. Speed+1 (P)            7. Charge+1 (W)
                                                   8. Charge+1 (Y)

COMMENTS:
This is the ultimate defensive Setup if you do not have the AntiDmg program
yet.  You get a Barrier to start with every battle, plus you essentially get
unlimited Guard ability with the Reflect program.  If you do not have the
Reflect program, then replace Reflect with the Shield program (and you'll
have plenty of room for the UnderSht program too) instead.  FstBarr is not
included in the CustomMenu sub-theme because it is not possible to fit it in
that Setup.

14. Teenage Mutant Ninja MegaMan
================================
|3|3|3|3|4|    Buster
|3|3|3|4|4|    ------

5. SpeedMAX (P)

COMMENTS:
=========
This is similar to the Defense, Defense, Defense! Setup, but this will let
you throw a shuriken (throwing ninja star) which is much more accurate than
Reflect's shield.

COMMENTS:
Do you love Soul Unisons, but hate the fact that you only get to use it for
three turns?  Well, with this Setup, you now can have up to SIX turns with
your favorite Soul Unison!

16. Body Pack Plus
==================
|4|4|2|2|3|    Buster

2. ChargMAX (W)
3. SpeedMAX (P)
4. Attack+1 (P)
5. Attack+1 (W)
6. Attack+1 (Y)

COMMENTS:
Think the BodyPack is too big to be useful?  Think again!  With this Setup,
you have a nearly maxed out MegaBuster, along with AirShoes, FlotShoe,
SprArmr, and UnderSht all in one neat little package.

17. HubBatc Plus
================
|2|4|1|6|3|    Buster
|2|1|1|1|3|    ------
|1|1|1|1|1|=>  Atk: 3

3. Attack+1 (Y)
4. Charge+1 (Y)
5. Charge+1 (W)
6. Speed+1 (P)
7. Speed+1 (W)

COMMENTS:
Think the HubBatc is too big to be useful?  Think again!  Unfortunately, it
is not possible to use any other programs with HubBatc other than the ones
listed.  But who cares when the HubBatch gives you everything the BodyPack
does (AirShoes, FlotShoes, SprArmor, UnderSht) PLUS Barrier, Shield,
Custom1, and MegFldr1!  The downside?  You can't get the HubBatc until near
the very end of the game and it cuts your max HP in half.  Bummer.

18. Elemental Virus Hunter

7. SpeedMAX (P)           7. Attack+1 (Y)           7. Speed+1 (*)
                         8. Charge+1 (Y)
                         9. Charge+1 (W)

COMMENTS:
Looking for viruses of a particular element?  Then try this Setup.  Here you
can place any of the four elemental virus programs without worrying about
any bugs.  Use Oilbody for Heat viruses, Fish for Aqua viruses, Battery for
Elec viruses, or Jungle for Wood viruses.  The Collect program is also
included in the MegaBuster Sub-Theme because why else would you want viruses
of a particular element other than to get their chips?

19. Navi Hunter

1. Custom+2 (B)
2. SprArmr (R)
3. AttckMAX (Y)
4. ChargMAX (W)
5. SpeedMAX (P)
6. BugStop (W)

COMMENTS:
The SprArmr is the most important piece of this puzzle, as it allows you to
get hit by the enemy without losing any Busting Level points.  Now all you
have to do is beat the Navi in less than 30 seconds, and the S rank and SP
chip are yours!  You also get seven chips in your Custom Menu along with a
maxed out MegaBuster.
(this Setup was inspired by WarGreymon_2's Simply Done Setup in the Battle
Network 4 guide)

20. Nebula Gray
===============
|3|3|1|5|5|    Buster
|3|3|1|1|1|    ------
|3|4|2|2|1|=>  Atk: 3
|6|2|2|2|1|    Spd: 1
|6|2|2|8|7|    Chg: 3

1. Airshoes (Y)
2. Custom2 (B)
3. MegFldr2 (G)
4. UnderSht (W)
5. Attack+1 (W)
6. Attack+1 (Y)
7. Charge+1 (W)
8. Charge+1 (Y)

COMMENTS:
This is your best Setup bet for taking on Nebula Gray.  The Airshoes are
absoultely essential for having free moment on all the empty panels, plus
you have seven chips in your Custom Menu, UnderSht protection.  You won't
have a very strong MegaBuster though.

21. Bass Hunter
===============
|2| |3|3|5|    Buster
|2|2|3|3|5|    ------
|4|2|3|1|1|=>  Atk: 2
|4|4|1|1|1|    Spd: 1
|4| |1|1|6|    Chg: 2

1. Custom2 (B)
2. Custom1 (B)
3. MegFldr2 (G)
4. SprArmr (R)
5. Attack+1 (Y)
6. Charge+1 (Y)

COMMENTS:
Although this Setup gives you a very weak MegaBuster, it more than makes up
for it with a full eight chips in the Custom Menu, seven Mega Chips in your
folder, and the SprArmr.  Although the SprArmr is not needed for Busting
Level in this case (you don't need to get a high rank against Bass to win
his Giga Chip or Bass SP for his badge, just survive), it is very helpful in
making sure your powerful attacks don't get blocked by Bass' attacks.

If you would like to add to this list, be sure to include your Setup's name,
all the programs used and where (don't forget to include the color of the
programs!), and what and where the Setup is most useful.  You will of
course, receive full and proper credit for your Setup, which by default will
be your GameFAQs name, but you can request to use your email address or real
first name if you prefer.

01. Custom on Air by Zeshiro

3) AttckMAX (Y)
4) BugStop (W)
5) Custom+1 (B)
6) FlotShoe (B)
7) ChargeMAX (W)
8) Speed+1 (P)

COMMENTS:
With FloatShoe, you won't be effected by Panels with Negative effects.
Also, you'll start out with six Chips and a nearly maxed Out MegaBuster.

02. Stat Builder by _sjv1988_
==-==========================
|1|1|1|2|3|    Buster
|1|1|1|2|4|    ------

1. BustPack (B)
2. Attack+1 (W)
3. Charge+1 (W)
4. SprArmr (R)
5. UnderSht (W)
6. Speed+1 (P)
7. SoulT+1 (P) or HP+100 (P)
8. SoulT+1 (W) or HP+100 (W)

COMMENTS:
This Setup allows almost all parts can be collected fairly early in the
game, maximum damage for charged Soul Unison shots, SprArmr for SP Navi
fights, and the last two programs allow you to choose between extra HP,
extra Soul turns, or one of each.  This Setup is best for Net roaming (with
both HP+100 programs) or NetBattling (both versions).

1. Custom+2 (B)
2. Custom+1 (B)
3. Undersht (W)
4. AttckMAX (Y)
5. SpeedMAX (P)
6. ChargeMAX (W)

COMMENTS:
By using Custom+2 and Custom+1, I now have 8 chips at my disposal every time
the custom screen springs up. It's fun to pick from so many chips and even
better if your folder is based on combos that like 2 or more chips at the
same time: Grassfield + Fire Element, or Program Advances etc.

04. JohnCT311's Setup
=====================
|5|5|1|1|1|    Buster
|2|6|1|1|1|    ------
|2| |1|3|1|=>  Atk: 5
|2|2|4|4|4|    Spd: 5

1. BustPack (B)
2. FstBarr (B)
3. UnderSht (W)
4. HP+300 (P)
5. Attack+1 (W)
6. Charge+1 (Y)
7. Speed+1 (W)

COMMENTS:
I did my best to maximize both offense and defense on this one.  So my
config results in, Attack Lv5, Speed Lv5, Charge Lv5, 860 HP (560 + 300, I'm
horrible at finding HPMemories..).  And the added benefit of FirstBarrier
and Undershirt, of course.

05. Varia Suit by Ryudo
=======================
|1|4|4|2| |    Buster
|1|1|4|2|2|    ------
|1|3|3|5|2|=>  Atk: 1
|3|3|3|6|6|    Spd: 1
|3|3| |6| |    Chg: 5

COMMENTS:
1. SprArmr (R)
2. Custom1 (B)
3. Custom2 (B)
4. ChargeMAX (W)
5. Undershirt (W)
6. SoulT+1 (Y) or HP+100 (Y) or [Attack+1 (Y) + Attack+1 (W)]

COMMENTS:
The Varia Suit setup returns again, but with modifications. With Soul Charge
Shots now able to be altered via your NCP blocks, a ChargeMAX is in there
for some quick Charge Shots. This helps the really good Charge attack from
Magnet, Gyro, Search, Proto and so on come out faster. Aside from that, it
remains basically the same. SuperArmour is in there for its lovely ability
to negate knockback while the CustomBlocks return for more Chip abuse
goodness. Like before, the last set of spaces can be one of many Blocks
depending on your taste.  Like to abuse your favourite Soul's abilities but
hate the 3 turn Limit? Make it 4 and get one more SearchShuffle! Want some
HP to fall back on? Then give yourself a little boost (this is especially
handy with Bass/SolCross as one raises your HP by 200 while the other raises
it by a certain percentage)! Want to get more out or your Soul charge shots?
Then pump up the power.  I myself use SoulT as Souls are a mainstay in my
battle style, but others might wanna do something different. Either way this
setup will give you the most out of your Chip Folder and Souls while leaving
some room for Varias things.

1. Capcom: For making the wonderful Battle Network series possible (I'd
still like MegaMan Legends 3 and/or Misadventures of Tron Bonne 2 though)
2. Nintendo: For making the GameCube and Game Boy Player, where I most like
to play Battle Network games (sometimes I use my DS though)
3. Tim and Magnet_Man at MegaMan Network (www.megaman-network.com): Their
text guide helped me to make sure I got all the NaviCust programs and
provided me with all the Compression Codes.
4. BradyGames MMBN5 guide: Their strategy guide also helped me make sure I
got all the NaviCust programs.  Too bad they're no help in the Compression
Codes. :(
