1-A: Introduction

Hello, hello, and hello again.  It's me, Soniclover.  Remember me?  The Luigi's
Adventures FAQ for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door?  That's me.  I owe it
to you to write another FAQ.  This time it's a Gaddget FAQ.  I found it a bit
disturbing that there's a Mini-game FAQ (Shining Espeon's Mini-game FAQs for
the Mario Party games are the best!) but no Gaddget FAQ.  Well, now that's
changed.

Updated several of the Gaddget descriptions, including the Magic Lamp, Egg
Roll, Tile Trial, and Stress Press.  Added all the Challenge Mode prices I

1-D: How to read this FAQ

Gaddgets are listed in the same order they're listed in Play Land.  I give
several tidbits of info about each one, as follows:

The name
Where to get it: How you get the Gaddget.  The term in parentheses is the name
of the quest in question.  Pun not intended.
Description: How the game describes the Gaddget.  Not always applicable.
My blurb: Anything I may have to add about it.  Here's where you'll find the
controls.
Use if ... you want to know what use you might have for the Gaddget.  Not
always applicable.

In case you haven't noticed yet, I use reverse indentation when I type this
FAQ.  In each paragraph, the first line touches the left side, but the others
are set off by one space.

We clear on that?  Good.

2: Gaddgets

Okay, here's the listing.

Snooze Ewes
Where to get it: Beat Bowser at a little soccer (hint: one angle is much more
effective than the other two), and knock some Koopa Kids silly with paintballs
(Goal Tenderizer)
Description: Just count the sheep until you fall asleep! Great for insomniacs
of all ages!
My blurb: I don't see how something this silly would help anyone fall asleep.
'Course, I don't count sheep to fall asleep in the first place.  You turn the
thing on or off with A.
Use if ... you're trying to get to sleep (but be sure you've got a friend to
turn off the GBA when you're asleep!)

Porta-Gust
Where to get it: Help Mr. E prove the rumor that the second floor of the Horror
Condo is haunted (Condo of Mystery!)
Description: Use the + Control Pad while watching the sensor.  Use it when Boo
appears.
My blurb: Yeah.  Time to vacuum up some Boos!  Press the + Control Pad in the
directions indicated by the lights on the bottom left until a Boo appears,
then hold A to suck it in.  To eject one Boo from the holding tank, hit B.
Use if ... you've seen Luigi suck up Boos in Luigi's Mansion, and want to try
it for yourself

Magic Lamp
Where to get it: Beat the Naval Piranha at Koopa Kurl (Bowserstein!)
Description: If you rub it right, a genie may appear to grant your deepest
wishes!
My blurb: I wish for ... well, I wish for ... gee, this is a tough decision to
make.  The trick to rubbing this thing is to rub it around in a circle,
touching the three star marks and the lamp's top in sequence.  Keep doing it,
and the genie will show up eventually if you're doing it right.  Thanks for
the tip, Ignacio Prez!
Use if ... you're Aladdin

Compat-I-Com
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Press the buttons with a friend to measure your compatibility
levels!
My blurb: One friend presses L while pressing + in any direction, the other
presses R and A.  Apparently I'm 49% my own best friend.
Use if ... you want to know how good a friend you are with someone else

Power Star
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode for 100,000 coins
Description: Be the envy of all your friends with this dreamy Power Star! Show
it off!
My blurb: Wow, what a waste of money.  This thing doesn't even DO anything.  If
I didn't want to complete the game 100%, I would've left the thing in the
store.
Use if ... you want to show off your wealth and/or unfrugality to your pals

Desktop Golf
Where to get it: Lose naturally to the Cheep Cheep (Swimmin' Wimp)
Description: Easy to learn, difficult to master!  Think you can hit a hole in
one?
My blurb: Maybe.  For the best hit, hold A for about 1/4 second.
Use if ... you can't afford to go to a REAL golf course

Shroom Slide
Where to get it: Get the Bob-omb password of "Baboom" (Find the Password)
Description: Set the number of players and winning slots, then guess which ones
will win!
My blurb: Use left and right to select the number of 'shrooms, up and down to
set the number of "winning" spots, and A to start things.  Skip a mushroom's
descent with B.
Use if ... you want to test your luck a bit

Stick to It
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: If you're feeling indecisive, use this!  Put stuff on the choice
spot!
My blurb: I don't know what this "choice spot" is, but that's not relevant.
Use + to set the number of possible directions the stick could fall, and start
the falling with A.
Use if ... you want to leave important decisions to chance

Bait 'n Wait
Where to get it: Get the Episode 28 line, "I'm an iron 'shroom." (What's That
Line?)
Description: Enjoy fishing in the comfort of your own home!  Watch the bobber
closely.
My blurb: I hate fishing myself.  Cast the line with A, wait for the bobber to
go under, and reel in with A again.  What will you catch?
Use if ... you're one of those kooks who LIKES fishing

Digitizer
Where to get it: Figure out who pulled Shroomlock into the wet (hint: you can't
pull if you've got no arms!) (Sploosh!)
Description: Place your finger on the screen and take a peek at what's inside!
My blurb: Well, no WONDER my finger's sore.  Take a pic with A, trash it with
B.
Use if ... you want to find out what's (not) inside your finger

Lip Sync
Where to get it: Prove that Bowser's guilty (hint: how does he know what size
the painting is?) and knock some Koopa Kids silly (Bowser: Accused!)
Description: Who said that!? Was that you? It didn't look like you, so WHO SAID
THAT!?
My blurb: Wow, calm down.  I didn't say any swear words.  Press and release L
or R to make the mouth move.  Change mouths with +.
Use if ... you want to use your GBA screen as a mouth

Shroom Bloom
Where to get it: Find a gift for Bowser and sneak past some Koopa Kids (Bestest
Buds)
Description: Grow your own mushroom, but be careful to keep the moisture
juuuuust right!
My blurb: It's simple, actually.  Just keep the needle within the lighted area.
When the mushroom is fully grown, pluck it with A.
Use if ... you want to practice before growing some REAL mushrooms

Poochy Pal
Where to get it: Join the club in the Horror Condo's basement (Nerd Force V)
Description: Who needs a real dog when you've got this virtual best friend by
your side?
My blurb: A lot of people.  Poochy really doesn't do much, but you can send a
butterfly or spider in to tease him with A.
Use if ... you can't afford a REAL dog

Bull's-eye
Where to get it: Get a stage for the 2nd floor band (Kamek Krew Live!)
Description: It's all in how long you hold the A button.  You need 8 darts!
Good luck!
My blurb: Yeah, good luck.  You'll need it.  I can't hit the bull's-eye without
just the right timing.  You can change the color of the dart with L and R
before throwing.
Use if ... you want to play darts without impaling your mother

Soil Sonar
Where to get it: Find a friend for Dorrie (Dino of Mystery!)
Description: Probe thousands of feet into the earth without even touching a
shovel!
My blurb: I didn't know THAT was under our house.  Careful, though; if you go
too far down, you'll lose the signal and have to start over.
Use if ... you wonder what's under YOUR house

Eye Exam
Where to get it: Figure out who robbed Thwomp (hint: Never mind who can get in,
who CAN'T get OUT?) (Weeping Thwomp)
Description: Stand about 7 feet back and see how well you see! Try it on your
friends!
My blurb: How far back can you see the C?  Rotate it with A, change its size or
view some shadows with +.
Use if ... your eyesight is failing you, even though it's not really that good
an eye test

Mini Slugger
Where to get it: Hit a home run off Mr. Blizzard (Cool as Ice)
Description: Grab a friend! One player pitches while the other swings the bat!
My blurb: Best with a Game Boy Player and two controllers.  Watch the ball and
hit A right!
Use if ... the weather's too bad for some REAL baseball

Tap-Tap Sumo
Where to get it: Figure out Pokey's riddles (Mysterious Riddles)
Description: Challenge a friend! Tap to make your wrestlers move. Last one
standing wins!
My blurb: Watch how you tap + or A/B.  I can't give a definite strategy.
Use if ... you want to settle a rivalry with a friend

Egg Roll
Where to get it: Pick up a train ticket (Kind Goomba)
Description: It's just an egg. Seems like you should be able to make it stand
on end...
My blurb: ...but you can't.  I've tried it.  No matter how much you fuss with
+, you can't get it to stay.  W-Wait, I just got it!  Once it's balanced,
you'll get a surprise.  You can then reset it with A and do it again.
Use if ... you want to frustrate yourself

Shroom Drop
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Turn your GBA on its side, choose a 'shroom, and take turns
sliding the plates.
My blurb: Can you make your 'shroom get to the bottom before the others do?
Use if ... you want a strategy game with a friend or two or three

Morse Maker
Where to get it: Follow the Fly Guy's instructions to summon the UFO (Hey,
UFO!)
Description: Write a message and hear it in Morse Code, or use the R Button to
improvise!
My blurb: Enter with + and A.  Delete with B.  Hear with L.  How hard can it
be?
Use if ... you want to translate something into Morse

4-P Pinball
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Play with up to three friends! Don't let 'em hit the ball into
your hole!
My blurb: If you're alone, see how long you can keep the ball in play.  Upper
left is L, upper right is R, bottom left is +, bottom right is A/B.
Use if ... you want to settle something between three friends

Snow Globe
Where to get it: Try to laugh at the Dolphin's jokes (Comedy Bomb)
Description: Isn't it peaceful? Tilt your GBA while you play for enhanced
realism!
My blurb: It's got pretty realistic gravity.  Tilt with +!
Use if ... you broke your parents' REAL snow globe

Tile Trial
Where to get it: Deliver a DVD to the Ninji (DVD for me)
Description: Complete the puzzle by shifting the panels.  How fast can you do
it?
My blurb: Not very fast.  Slide with +, see a preview with R.  The latter is
rather useless, though, given the picture in the corner.  Once it's solved,
you can rescramble things with A.
Use if ... you can't find one of those old "15" tile puzzles (note that I
didn't use the word "REAL" this time)

Map Maker
Where to get it: Unlock the Klepto Ruins treasure chest (Treasure of Mystery!)
Description: Create your own treasure map! Hide the treasure and let your
friends find it!
My blurb: What kind of treasure map maker is this?  Won't work well if you
don't have a screen-capture feature.
Use if ... you fantasize of being a pirate

Attack Frog
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Feast on bugs with up to three friends! Press buttons to snack on
bugs!
My blurb: Press the button when you see a fly, but you'll lose a point if you
try to eat a snake.  First to 3 wins!
Use if ... you liked Speed Eaters from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

Mini Maze
Where to get it: Figure out where Ukiki went (hint: CapitaLs rUlE!)
(Monkeynapping?!)
Description: No bells and whistles here! Just a good, old-fashioned labyrinth.
My blurb: You said it.  Make a maze with A, then try to get from the cloud to
the fire flower.
Use if ... you like mazes

Faux Flame
Where to get it: Win a game of chance and a game of capping (Boss Bowser)
Description: This windproof flame will never let you down! Too bad it's not
warmer...
My blurb: Yeah, you said it.  Hold A to light it.
Use if ... you're cold, and have an active imagination

Stress Press
Where to get it: Win a dice game in the Mushroom Condo basement (Big Boss Bob-
omb)
Description: Use this little guy to work out all our stress! Squish, squish,
squish!
My blurb: Choose a clay sculpture, a diamond, a piggy bank, or an alarm clock
with +, bring it out with A, and bash it with A again.  I find the alarm clock
and the diamond to be the most effective, but that's just me.
Use if ... you're stressed out (duh)

Bomb Game
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Disarm the bomb, or else! Take turns cutting the bomb wires!
My blurb: One wire detonates the bomb.  Try not to be the one who cuts that
wire.
Use if ... you want to test your luck

Card Trick
Where to get it: Solve the Koopa Bank robbery (hint: in that darkness, nobody
can see a thing!) (Probably a Robbery?)
Description: Marvel as your GBA guesses the card you picked! No blindfolds
needed!
My blurb: Oldest trick in the book.  Pick the row three times, you'll get your
card.
Use if ... you want to amaze yourself or your friends

Hourglass
Where to get it: Win a game of chance and a game of capping (Boss Bowser)
Description: These 3 hourglasses count different times.  When you flip them,
flip your GBA!
My blurb: The pink one times one minute, the blue one three minutes, and the
yellow five.
Use if ... you want to time your cooking the old-fashioned way

Rochambeau
Where to get it: Pick a Piranha Plant for Bob-omba (Flowers Are a Blast!)
Description: Got no one to play with? Need to train up? Play a round with your
GBA!
My blurb: They mean rock-paper-scissors.  Hit L or R to throw.
Use if ... do I really need to tell you?

Egg Panic
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Stuff eggs into the bag with friends! Don't rip the bag, or it's
all over!
My blurb: When the chicks begin waving their wings, the bag could rip anytime.
Use if ... you want to test your luck again

Block Punch
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Break the block with up to four friends! Whoever hits the block
last wins!
My blurb: The appearance of a block will give you an estimate of how many
punches it'll take to break it.  From weakest to strongest: wood, metal, and
stone.
Use if ... you're interested in a little strategy

Dart Attack
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Hold the button until the target appears. Release to launch an
arrow!
My blurb: Or a dart.  Release the instant the target appears for best results.

Breeze Buddy
Where to get it: Tell Bowser some jokes (Chillin' Villain)
Description: Ahhh... Turn your GBA into a nice, cool fan! You feel cooler just

Use if ... you want a cooler (sorry) way to blow out your Faux Flame

Chicken Race
Where to get it: You have it at the beginning of the game
Description: Stop before the cliff.  Pick a car and hope it doesn't plummet!
My blurb: Brake with your button.  You win if you brake latest without going
over!
Use if ... you want to test your courage with a friend

Love me Not
Where to get it: Tell Mr. I about Flutter's love (Hearts A-Flutter)
Description: Pluck the petals and find your future! "She loves me... She loves
me not!"
My blurb: Does she love me or doesn't she?  Pluck with A.  Sometimes petals
take two tugs to remove.
Use if ... you want to find your love life's future without tearing up a REAL
flower

Mini Bowling
Where to get it: Be a good dancing student (Jungle Jive)
Description: Turn your GBA on its side and enjoy a few frames with your

Screen Clean
Where to get it: Beat Bowser's quiz and show off your reflexes (Bowser's Toys)
Description: Get your GBA screen sparkling clean! Use often for best results.
My blurb: Use no other screen-cleaning methods for worst results.  It doesn't
REALLY clean your screen.
Use if ... you want to make a gullible friend think your GBA's got an automatic
screen-cleaner

Predictotron
Where to get it: Prove which Boo is a fake (True-Blue Boo)
Description: Study your opponent's patterns and learn how to predict his every
move!
My blurb: Apparently this thing is supposed to help you predict your opponent
will call in rock-paper scissors.  I have no clue whether it works.
Use if ... you want to win at rock-paper-scissors

Cake Maker
Where to get it: Deliver some coal (Locomotionless)
Description: Decorate a cake! But... try not to take a bite out of it. Trust
us.
My blurb: I trust you, I trust you.  Switch menus with L and R.  To erase a
decoration, choose it with L and R and press A.
Use if ... your parents won't let you decorate a REAL cake

Mini Soccer
Where to get it: Win a race against Bullet Bill (A Speeding Bill)
Description: A 2-player soccer game! Aim for your opponent's goal to score.
My blurb: Spin the red guy with + or L, and the blue guy with A, B, or R.  Try
to get the ball past your opponent.
Use if ... you aren't athletic enough to play REAL soccer

Dessert Menu
Where to get it: Find a seashell for Goombob (Accessorize!)
Description: Pick a dessert from the menu. Do you see any of your favorites?
My blurb: Pick a fruit, a flavor, a dish, then look at your dessert.  Don't
try to eat it, though; GBAs don't tend to function well when there's slobber
in them.
Use if ... your parents won't let you pick from the REAL dessert menu

Bead Machine
Where to get it: Deliver Petal Guy's poem (Blossom of my Heart)
Description: String beads together to create a lovely design, 24 across and 18
high.
My blurb: I suggest planning out your pattern with graph paper first.  Frame it
with L or R.
Use if ... you don't have the equipment to make a REAL bead tapestry

Jewelry Case
Where to get it: Nail a game of Watch 'Em (Game King)
Description: It's a case! Full of jewelry! You can look, but don't touch!

Castle Night
Where to get it: Do some math with Mechakoopa (Mathemagician!)
Description: It's a beautiful night. If you see a falling star, make a wish!
Don't blink!
My blurb: You can turn the castle on and off with A, the flowers with B, and
two different sets of fireworks on and off with L and R.
Use if ... you want to do some stargazing at two in the afternoon

Hope Chest
Where to get it: Bring Princess Peach to Mr. I (Love That Princess)
Description: Make a wish and close the lid with any button.  Have someone you
like open it!
My blurb: Press A, B, L, R, and + in any order to close the chest.  The chest
then can be opened by pressing the buttons in the reverse order.
Use if ... you have a loved one you want to show your appreciation to

Pretty Poster
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode for 100 coins
My blurb: Nice rainbow there.  Viewing it will change the Party World intro
screen to this view (it's the default).

Sun Poster
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode for 4,000 coins
My blurb: That's a darling sunset.  Viewing it will change the Party World
intro screen to this view.

Moon Poster
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode for 3,000 coins
My blurb: The crescent moon is holding water tonight.  Viewing it will change
the Party World intro screen to this view.

Coin Poster
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode for 10,000 coins
My blurb: The most expensive poster of the lot, and rightfully so.  Viewing it
will change the Party World intro screen to this view.

Heart Poster
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode for 1,000 coins
My blurb: Someone loves someone an awful lot.  Viewing it will change the Party
World intro screen to this view.

Bowser Poster
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode  for 1,500 coins
My blurb: Bowser can't resist sticking his mug everywhere.  Viewing it will
change the Party World intro screen to this view.

Bowser Print
Where to get it: Drop some Koopa Kids down (Final Showdown)
My blurb: You now have Bowser's handprint.  Do you like it?  Nor do I.

Bonus Track
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode for 2,000 coins
My blurb: A short but nice extra music track.  I'd rather have a sound test
feature, though.

Passport+
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode  for 1,000 coins
My blurb: When you've got this baby, it expands your memory so you can store up
to 30 passports in your Pak.  Not that you'd know what do do with that many
'ports.

Credits
Where to get it: Buy it in Challenge Mode for 2,000 coins
My blurb: No game is complete without the ability to look at the people who
made the game.  Say hi to Norio Suzuki in programming for me!

Those are all the Gadgets that exist.  All sixty of them.  I spent a while
listing all of them.  I know I always say this, but I thank you for your
