¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Finally! After months of waiting the official Quidditch games have
been released. For the past year and a half I've satisfied my
Quidditch cravings by playing an array of unofficial amateurish
quidditch games which frankly, haven't been all that good. So! At
last we have the real thing. The annoying thing is that EA didn't
announce the NA release date before hand, just using the ambiguous
'Q4' (for those of you who don't know, this means Quarter 4, i.e.
Quarter 4 of the year). So here I was, expecting it to be released
after the EU version, and then BAM!
Anyway, enough of the riff-raff, what about the game? Well, to be
honest, most of the practices are very easy. However the actual
gameplay is quite good. The game system is very similar to most
soccer games - you control the 3 chasers (if you have no idea
what a 'chaser' is, read the Dummies Guide to Quidditch below)
passing the quaffle around and scoring goals. Once the two snitch
halves meet at the top (see the Gameplay Screen), the game shifts
to a 'capture-the-snitch' phase. You control the seeker, trying
to catch the snitch (duh!). Eventually, someone will get the snitch
and the game will end.
To start off with, you play as one of the Hogwarts house teams -
Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin. Once you win the
Quidditch Cup you get to play in the ultimate - the World Cup!
-=-= The Dummies Guide to Quidditch =-=-
So, never heard of quidditch before? Where have you been? Don't tell
me you haven't read the books! Anyway...
Quidditch is the sport of witches and wizard. It is played on a
Quidditch pitch and the players are mounted on broomsticks.
A Quidditch team is made up of 7 players, they are:
3 Chasers
2 Beaters
1 Keeper
1 Seeker
Chasers
=======
The goal of chasers is to score goals. There are three goals at
each end of the field. The chasers pass the quaffle (a red leather
ball, about the size of a soccer ball/football with pockmarks in
it) and try to throw it through the goals. Each goal is worth 10
points.
Beaters
=======
These two players fly around the field holding clubs. Their job is
to hit bludgers (medium sized black balls which try to knock players
off their brooms) at the opposition players or stop them from hitting
their own players.
Keeper
======
Each team has 1 keeper, whose job it is to prevent the chasers from
scoring goals. They hang around the goals their trying to defend
and block shots with their bodies.
Seeker
======
The seeker has got probably the most important job in the team.
His/her job is to catch the snitch (a tiny gold ball with wings that
flies around REALLY quickly). When the seeker catches the snitch they
gain 150 points for their team and the game immediately ends.
Well that's about all you need to know, for more information, READ
THE BOOKS!!!
-=-= A Bit About Me =-=-
If you are reading this then you have too much time on your hands.
Anyway, I’m a 15 year old and live in New Zealand. That’s near
Australia for those of you who aren’t familiar with South-Western-
Pacific Geography. I enjoy using computers and am especially into
‘video games’ (who isn’t?) Apart from gaming I maintain my own
website, write computer programs (yup, including games), and
Code Hack (there are people out there that have to find all the
codes for the cheaters :D ) Then there’s school <sigh> and I enjoy
playing cricket and soccer.
-=-=Apologies=-=-
I would like to apologise for:
- Mis-information (unintentionally of course) given here. Especially
when people contribute tips etc, I don’t have time to check up on
all of them
- Other mistakes
- Dull attempts at humour
- My poor artistic talents
- The graphical incapabilities of text files
- Anything I have forgotten to apologise for
Now might be a good time to sneak in a little confession and hope
you don’t notice it :). I have used an emulator to play this game,
for the sole reason that emulators are a lot easier to use. For
example I can make as many save states as I like whenever I like and
and I don’t have to reload the game every time I stuff up (a frequent
occurence. It's also kind of a habit as all Code Hackers use emulators.
Using an emu is exactly the same as using, the real thing, just that
it’s not :) Don’t call me a cheapo because of this, it just makes
things a lot easier (and I've bought all the rest of the HP
paraphernalia so it's not like I'm damaging anyones pocket).

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
This section gives detailed info on the various challenges and
strategies on how to complete them.
-=-= Passing =-=-
"Eyes front! Get ready to learn some basic Chaser techniques"
Instructions: To test the accuracy of your passing, throw the quaffle
through as many tubes as you can. Throwing the Quaffle
harder will reduce your target by two tubes.
Controls: Pad - Direction of Throw
<A> - Launch Quaffle
Target: Bronze - 10pts
Silver - 20pts
Gold - 30pts
Time: Bronze - 100s
Silver - 100s
Gold - 60s
Strategy: This is a very easy challenge. This is my basic strategy
which is guaranteed to work. Hold down <A> (just before
or after the tube appears). When the tube appears, press
the corresponding directional button then release <A>.
Easy!
Reward: Bronze - Gryffindor Chasers
Silver - Hufflepuff Chasers
Gold - Ravenclaw Chasers
For Experts: Try beat my highscore (quite easy really) - 33s
"Congratulations! You have mastered the art of passing. This technique
is very useful because passing increases your Power Bar. This bar
allows you to use Special Moves and contributes towards the release
of the Snitch.
-=-= Tackling =-=-
"On your toes! It's time for a Chaser challenge."
Instructions: For this challenge, you have to win the Quaffle from
ghost of an ex-Quidditch player, Edgar Cloggs. Once
you have the Quaffle, you must return it to the
Quidditch ball box.
Controls: Pad - Fly
<A> - Tackle Edgar
<B> - Dodge Edgar
Target: Get the Quaffle into the ball box
Time: 60 seconds.
Strategy: Another quite simple challenge. Fly to the semi-ellipse
line and Edgar should fly out. Turn around and chase him
then tackle him and get the ball. For the Bronze level
you should just be able to fly away from him. For the
other levels, throw the quaffle towards the box, pick
it up, then throw it into the box. NOTE: Time starts
once Edgar flies out of the box. Also, when you go to
tackle Edgar, it helps if you're on the left of him,
that way you can quickly throw the quaffle and chase it.
Reward: Bronze - Edgar Cloggs
Silver - Slytherin Chasers
Gold - Hogwarts Stadium (Summer)
For Experts: Try beat my highscore - 9 seconds!
"Excellent, Well Done! You've learned how to tackle and dodge.
-=-= Shooting =-=-
"You are now going to take the shooting challenge."
Instructions: You must attempt to shoot past the Keeper, Madam
Hooch, and score 40 points within the allotted time.
Controls: Pad - Goal Selection
<A> - Shoot at Goal
<B> - Dodge Madam Hooch.
Target: 40pts
Time: Bronze - 60s
Silver - 60s
Gold - 50s
Strategy: This one is even easier than the last! Grab the Quaffle
when Hooch throws it to you (this is probably the hardest
part of the challenge), then fly towards the goals, a little
to one side. When you get close, hold <A>, press one of the
directionals (aim for one of the hoops that Mme Hooch ISN'T
blocking, not that it really matters...) and release <A> .
If you miss, you're an idiot :) Tip: Don't be too close
when you're shooting, but not too far :P
Reward: Bronze - Gryffindor Keeper
Silver - Madam Hooch
Gold - Hufflepuff Keeper, Ravenclaw Keeper, Slytherin Keeper
For Experts: Try beat my highscore, a rather crap 20 seconds.
"Excellent, Well Done! You have now learned how to score goals. In a
match, scoring a goal gives your team 10 points"
-=-= Beaters =-=-
"Time now for a Beater challenge. I know you can do it!"
Instructions: In this challenge, you must protect a Chaser from
Bludgers by using the Beaters. The Chaser must reach
the Bludger box on the far side of the lake within
the time limit.
Controls: Pad - Fly
<R> - Call in Beater
Target: Ensure the Chaser reaches the Bludger Box.
Time: Bronze - 44s
Silver - 60s
Gold - 66s
Strategy: Basically, you need fast reactions. As soon as you see the
beater appear at the top right of the screen press <R>.
Also there will be minor obstacles that you have to dodge.
Shouldn't be a problem.
Reward: Bronze - Gryffindor Beaters
Silver - Hufflepuff Beaters
Gold - Ravenclaw Beaters, Slytherin Beaters
For Experts: Try beat my highscore, an average 57 seconds.
"Excellent, Well Done! You have mastered the art of using the Beater
to defend the Chaser. To make a beater defend, press <R>; to attack
and opponent's Chaser, press <R>. Beware! Attacking a Chaser with a
Beater will drain vital power from your Power Bar"
-=-= Seeker =-=-
"Let's have a go at the Seeker challenge. I hope you're ready!"
Instructions: Hagrid has sighted a Golden Snidget in the grounds. The
school's Seekers need to catch it so that it can be
safely returned to a Snidget Sanctuary.
Following the trail left behind by the Snidget will
increase your speed. Picking up the globes on either
side of the trail will increase your power bar.
Controls: Pad - Fly
<A> - Use Boost
Target: Catch the Snidget.
Time: 60s
Strategy: This is the hardest challenge of them all, waaaay harder
than all the others put together. I haven't really got a
good strategy for this one but generally, I pick up a lot
of boosts at the start to increase my boost capacity, while
still staying a little bit behind the opposition. Then you
have to use your boosts up and catch the snitch. It is
REALLY important to pick up boosts especially when you're
right behind the Snitch as in the Gold level that's the only
way you can catch up to it.
Reward: Bronze - Gryffindor Seeker
Silver - Hufflepuff Seeker
Gold - Ravenclaw Seeker, Slytherin Seeker
For Experts: Try beat my highscore, 48 seconds.
"Excellent, Well Done! You have now learnt how to catch the Snitch.
The seeker who catches the Snitch gains 150 points for their team and
also ends the match"
