BRUCE: Years ago, my parents' death taught me there was no justice. So I
travelled the world seeking a way to make my own. I found the League of Shadows
led by Ra's Al Ghul... and Henri Ducard.
DUCARD: To master the fears of others you must first master your own. Are you
ready to begin?
[Bruce and Ducard enter the outdoor training grounds.]
DUCARD: Learn to use your environment and it can become your greatest ally.
NINJA: Hold v + < or > to perform a roll.
NINJA: Double Tap < or > to run.
[Bruce reaches the end of the course. Ducard is waiting.]
BRUCE: Impossible! How did you get here?
DUCARD: Respect and master your environment and you can become a wraith in
men's minds.
[Bruce enters a new course.]
NINJA: You must prove you understand the basics if you wish to proceed.
NINJA: Press R to throw your shuriken.
[Bruce reaches the end of another course. Ducard is waiting.]
DUCARD: Do you still feel responsible for your parents' death?
BRUCE: My anger outweighs my guilt.
DUCARD: Your anger will make you strong... but you will need more than
strength. It is time for you to learn more advanced techniques.
2.2 - MONASTERY II
[Ra's Al Ghul and Ducard watch Bruce fight several ninjas inside the
monastery.]
RA'S AL GHUL: The ninja is thought capable of the impossible. But it is simply
a matter of training.
DUCARD: I know you can fight as well as any man, Wayne. But here we will teach
you to fight as the things that men fear.
RA'S AL GHUL: Aim where your enemy is most vulnerable. Hold v and press B to
perform a Crouch Attack.
DUCARD: There is no such thing as "too much force." Hold ^ and press B to
perform an Uppercut.
RA'S AL GHUL: Fend off blows, choose your moment to strike. Hold L to Block.
DUCARD: Endgame is rewarding, but it can be the most dangerous time of all.
Remember that.
[Bruce and Ducard move to another part of the monastery.]
DUCARD: Access is restricted beyond this point. You must learn to proceed
undetected.
[Bruce jumps up to a pipe.]
DUCARD: Press B while hanging from a pipe to attack from above.
[Bruce spots patrolling ninjas.]
DUCARD: Press ^ to hide in alcoves and shadows.
[Bruce reaches the end of the stealth course.]
NINJA: You learn fast for an outsider. Ra's Al Ghul awaits your presence.
2.3 - MONASTERY III
[Bruce meets Ra's Al Ghul and a man in a cage.]
RA'S AL GHUL: You are ready. Here is your final test. This man is a murderer
and a thief. Kill him.
BRUCE: No. That's not justice. I'm not a killer.
RA'S AL GHUL: If you can't kill now, how will you destroy Gotham?
BRUCE: Destroy... Gotham?
RA'S AL GHUL: Of course. Like this wretch, it is too far gone to be saved. Kill
him, Wayne. Show me you know what is right.
[Bruce starts a fire.]
RA'S AL GHUL: For the cost of one wretched life, you've sacrificed an entire
city's justice.
[Bruce escapes from the room.]
BRUCE: The fire will destroy this ancient monastery in minutes.
[Bruce reaches the upper level of the monastery.]
BRUCE: The guards are still on alert, but scattered...
[Bruce exits the monastery and sees an unconscious Ducard.]
BRUCE: Ducard...
[The monastery explodes.]
BRUCE: Ra's Al Ghul perished in the fire. Ducard I saved... but left behind.
And then I came back to Gotham.
BRUCE: As a man, I can be beaten, I can be forgotten. But as a symbol, I can be
incorruptible, elemental, terrifying. It's time my enemies shared my dread.
Starting with one of Gotham's most notorious criminals... Carmine Falcone.
[Batman approaches the docks.]
BATMAN: I contacted Alfred back at Wayne Manor. Falcone has police protection.
ALFRED: No doubt corrupt, sir.
BATMAN: Either way, there are too many of them. I can't let them see me.
[Batman makes his way through a building.]
BATMAN: I need somebody I can make talk. Somebody inside Falcone's
organization.
ALFRED: Police records do list a well-informed man who should be in your
current vicinity. He's known for carrying a baseball bat.
[Batman approaches the man with a baseball bat.]
BASEBALL BAT MAN: I'm gonna crack your head open!
[Batman beats him up.]
BATMAN: Let's talk. What's got Falcone on edge? He brought an army for a simple
cargo drop.
[Batman hits him again.]
BASEBALL BAT MAN: I dunno, he's spooked. He doesn't trust anybody. His
Consiglieri, his advisor. He'd know what's going on.
BATMAN: What does this advisor fear?
[Batman smacks him again.]
BASEBALL BAT MAN: Small spaces. He's claustrophobic.
[Batman exits the room.]
3.2 - THE DOCKS II
BATMAN: The Consiglieri will know about the shipment. I need to find him.
ALFRED: Might his loyalty to Falcone keep him quiet?
BATMAN: His fear will make him talk.
[Batman makes his way through another room.]
ALFRED: I've done a bit of eavesdropping, sir. It appears there's a gunman
above you.
BATMAN: Maybe I'll drop in on him.
GUNMAN: Let's see if that costume is bulletproof.
[Batman subdues the gunman and exits to a rooftop. The Consiglieri is nearby.]
CONSIGLIERI: Whatever you are, do your worst. I won't talk. I'm more afraid of
Falcone than anything you could do to me.
[Batman forces the Consiglieri into a cargo container. The container closes and
Batman strikes it.]
CONSIGLIERI: No! Please! Let me out! The walls...!
BATMAN: You come out when you talk. Tell me about the shipment.
CONSIGLIERI: I don't know anything about that.
[Batman hits the container again.]
BATMAN: Losing my patience.
CONSIGLIERI: Please, you don't know Falcone, he's horrible...
BATMAN: You don’t know me, and I'm worse.
CONSIGLIERI: Falcone splits the shipment! The crates marked with white falcons
go to his dealers. The rest go to a warehouse in the Narrows, to some doctor
from Arkham Asylum.
[Batman punches the container again.]
BATMAN: Where's Falcone now?
CONSIGLIERI: At a meeting on the roof of the warehouse on the other side of the
docks.
[Batman leaves the rooftop.]
3.3 - THE DOCKS III
BATMAN: Getting Falcone won't be enough. I need evidence.
ALFRED: His crates are marked with white falcons.
BATMAN: Then that's my target.
[Batman reaches Falcone's rooftop. Batman toggles a switch and the shipment
crashes down, opening and spilling its contents on the roof.]
BATMAN: What was in Falcone's shipments? Where were they going? I need to find
out. Police Sergeant Gordon's crooked partner, Flass... He's on Falcone's
payroll. He'll know.
[Batman draws near Falcone's club.]
ALFRED: Falcone's arrest has made bedlam of Gotham crime.
BATMAN: But his club's still active.
ALFRED: And still dangerous, sir. You'll find Flass inside.
[Batman enters the club through an underground parking garage.]
ALFRED: Sir, Gordon's records warn that Falcone's club is thick with lethal
traps and video cameras.
BATMAN: Maybe those cameras can show me Flass. Where are they?
ALFRED: The security station.
[Batman makes his way to the security station.]
BATMAN: I've reached Falcone's security station. I have visual on Flass. He's
here.
[Batman leaves the station and sees three men.]
BLACK THUG: That snitch Pfister is inside Falcone's office.
WHITE THUG: He knows too much.
BLACK THUG: He won't know a thing once we're done with him.
[Batman subdues the men and interrogates Pfister.]
PFISTER: The Batman! You're real!
BATMAN: Where's Flass?
[Batman wallops Pfister.]
PFISTER: Don't hurt me, I'll talk. Flass is interrogating that psycho, Zsasz.
[Batman bashes Pfister.]
BATMAN: You turned snitch to Gordon. What's your info?
[Batman smashes Pfister.]
PFISTER: Something was stolen from Wayne Enterprises. Some kind of weapon.
That's all I know, I swear.
4.2 - GOTHAM CITY II
[Batman travels up through the building.]
ALFRED: You're nearing Flass' office now, sir.
[Batman comes upon Flass grilling Zsasz behind bars.]
FLASS: I know you're not stupid, Zsasz, just crazy.
ZSASZ: I've got a hunger for chitlins, piggy.
FLASS: You know Crane. Who's he working for?
ZSASZ: Someone a hell of a lot scarier than me.
[Batman pushes Zsasz to attack Flass. Zsasz demolishes the bars and escapes.
Batman approaches a shaking Flass.]
FLASS: Don't hurt me!
BATMAN: Why would I? That's what Zsasz is for. Falcone's shipment. What was
it?
[Batman slaps Flass.]
FLASS: Some kind of chemical!
BATMAN: Who did it go to?
[Batman socks Flass.]
FLASS: A doctor at Arkham Asylum! Jonathan Crane!
[Batman leaves Flass' office.]
4.3 - GOTHAM CITY III
BATMAN: Falcone's chemicals went to the Narrows. Flass said it was for a Dr.
Crane...
ALFRED: The warehouse ahead is registered to one Dr. Crane of Arkham Asylum.
You should be able to get in through the roof.
[Batman exits onto a rooftop.]
ALFRED: Sir, this may be too great a force for even you.
BATMAN: I can even the odds with Flash-Bangs... take them down while they're
disoriented.
[Batman traverses several roofs.]
THUG: I'm gonna wipe the floor with that cape!
ZSASZ: GRRRRR!!!
[Scarecrow gasses Batman. Batman hurtles through a skylight. Later, Alfred
helps a battered Batman.]
BATMAN: Crane... Scarecrow... he gassed me with a weaponized hallucinogen.
[Alfred introduces Bruce to Lucius Fox back at Wayne Manor.]
ALFRED: I took the liberty of calling Lucius Fox when your condition worsened.
FOX: And I synthesized an antidote. Feeling better?
BRUCE: Much. But we're going to need more antidote. A lot more.
BRUCE: Crane and Falcone were only puppets for Ra's Al Ghul. The man I knew as
Ducard was just a mask. When I saved his life, I saved the life of... Ra's Al
Ghul.
[Ducard/Ra's Al Ghul and a team of ninjas have ambushed Bruce in Wayne Manor.
The Manor has been set on fire.]
BRUCE: Crane was working for you.
RA'S AL GHUL: We provided the toxin, he weaponized it. Gotham is a cancer. It
must be ripped away.
BRUCE: You'll destroy innocent lives.
RA'S AL GHUL: Necessary sacrifices. Like your parents. Like you.
[Ra's Al Ghul escapes through the fire. Bruce moves to another room.]
BRUCE: Alfred! Can you hear me? Are you alright?
ALFRED: I am, sir, but Lucius Fox is trapped in the fire. He had come with a
message for you.
BRUCE: Wait for me in the Batcave. Fox doesn't have much time.
[Bruce detects Fox locked in the kitchen.]
BRUCE: Lucius! What are you doing here?
FOX: Hiding from those maniacs in black pajamas.
BRUCE: I'll find a way to make you an exit.
FOX: Hurry! The fire is growing.
[Bruce breaks the door down.]
FOX: Bruce, I discovered what was stolen from Wayne Enterprises. A weapon. A
microwave emitter.
BRUCE: Ra's Al Ghul could use that to vaporize the fear toxin... He could
spread the toxin through all of Gotham!
FOX: For the moment, you might want to focus on saving your own hide!
[Wayne Manor is engulfed in flames.]
RA'S AL GHUL: Wayne has been defeated. My fear toxin will be unleashed on
Gotham.
[Ra's Al Ghul enters a train.]
RA'S AL GHUL: The world will watch in horror as its greatest city destroys
itself. Gentlemen. It's time to spread the word. And the word is... panic.
BATMAN: They're taking the microwave emitter to the water mains by the
monorail. The toxin will be atomized into the air. The whole city will be
driven insane with fear. The Narrows are already lost, but Gotham can be
saved.
[Batman goes through a building.]
ALFRED: Sir, the Narrowborough Bridge is being lowered.
BATMAN: The fear-maddened mobs could spill into Gotham. I'll stop whoever's
behind it.
ALFRED: Sir... the Batmobile.
BATMAN: Its autodestruct is my failsafe. The monorail has to pass here on its
way to Gotham.
[Batman runs into Scarecrow, operating a machine.]
BATMAN: I won't let you lower this bridge, Crane.
SCARECROW: Crane? Oh no... Scarecrow.
BATMAN: I'm through playing games.
SCARECROW: Life is a game. So yes, maybe you are through playing.
[Batman overpowers Scarecrow.]
7.2 - FINALE II
[Batman is near the monorail.]
ALFRED: The monorail is already in motion, sir.
BATMAN: I can still get on board.
ALFRED: I fear it may be too late.
BATMAN: I've still got my grapple.
[Batman dives onto the moving train. He makes his way to the front of the
train, where he's confronted by Ra's Al Ghul.]
RA'S AL GHUL: Wayne. You took the idea of theatricality to heart.
BATMAN: We both wear masks.
RA'S AL GHUL: Yours is a lie. You hate Gotham as much as I do. But you're
afraid to do what's necessary.
BATMAN: Fear is my weapon.
[Batman defeats Ra's Al Ghul. The train falls apart and blows up.]
BATMAN: I once made the mistake of thinking Ra's Al Ghul was dead. But when men
make themselves symbols, they shed their mortality. Henri Ducard, Jonathan
Crane, they're already gone. Just like Bruce Wayne. He's only a mask, a cover
for the face criminals now fear. All that's left... is Batman.

Bonus:
When Batman tries the intercom outside Falcone's club:
INTERCOM: What's the pass phrase?
BATMAN: ...
INTERCOM: Buzz off, buddy.
INTERCOM: Get lost, moron.
INTERCOM: Go take a long walk off a short pier.
INTERCOM: Scram.
INTERCOM: Make yourself scarce.
