1. GAME INFO
The first (and only) Mega Man adventure for the Sega Game Gear! This is an
OFFICIAL Capcom game, despite its being ported/programmed by US Gold. This game
features the return of bosses from Mega Man 4 and 5 on the NES.
2. CHARACTERS
MEGA MAN - Also known as "Rock." Originally designed as a lab assistant, he
later took up fighting against the evil Dr. Wily. Mega Man can adapt the
special weapons of robots he defeats in battle.
RUSH - Mega Man's robotic dog companion. He can be summoned into battle, and he
alters his form into various useful gadgets.
DR. LIGHT - The scientist who created Mega Man, Rush, and Roll, as well as a
few other robots (these were later corrupted by Dr. Wily).
DR. WILY - Mega Man's arch nemesis. Creator of the robot bosses.

6. ATTACK PATTERNS
Bright Man - He'll fire three shots at a time, and also jump at you. When he
freezes time, he'll again try to shoot you or jump on you. The Star Crash will
take care of him.
Napalm Man - When he's not firing missiles at you, he'll jump and/or fire
Napalm Bombs in an arc. Slide to dodge the missiles, and stay close to him to
avoid the bombs. Use the Flash Stopper to remove this pest.
Star Man - He's not so tough. He'll jump and hover, and try to throw his shield
of stars at you. When he does, dodge them and blast him with your Mega Buster.
Stone Man - This dope will jump around the room like an idiot. Try to get him
to land on Napalm Bombs, and you'll have no problem. If you stay relatively
close to him, he won't even try to use his Power Stone attack, which sends
three rocks flying in expanding circles.
Toad Man - You'll fight him in the castle. He's a bit harder than his original
incarnation. Blast him repeatedly with your Mega Buster so he can't use his
Rain Flush, or use the Water Wave on him the INSTANT he starts his little
dance.
Wave Man - Again, you'll find this boss in the castle. The Mega Buster will
crack this punk. He'll attack you with water bursts from the pipe below you,
and he'll also shoot harpoons at you. Jump over them, then slide to avoid his
jumping attack. Blast away!
Dr. Wily - The attack pattern look familiar to you? It should...it's basically
the same disappearing/reappearing act he had in MM5. Jump to avoid the energy
bursts he sends along the floor (this is a good time to hit him with the Mega
Buster), then get the hell away from him when the energy spirals outward. It'll
take time and patience, but you'll defeat him. If he continually reappears out
of range, try the Power Stone or Rain Flush; they don't do as much damage as a
charged Mega Buster shot, however.
7. WEAPON DESCRIPTIONS
NOTE: US Gold went super-generic with the weapon names in this game. Instead of
using the standard names from the original games, they just called the weapons
"Toad Weapon, "Star Weapon," etc. For clarity's sake, I've placed the US Gold
names in parentheses. The original names just sound a lot better. :D
Mega Buster - Your standard arm cannon. It can be charged to produce a more
powerful shot.
Flash Stopper (Bright Weapon) - Freezes time momentarily. You can fire regular
arm cannon shots as well.
Napalm Bomb (Napalm Weapon) - Essentially a small pipe bomb. They'll bounce and
explode after a few seconds, or on impact if they hit an enemy.
Power Stone (Stone Weapon) - Three large rocks circle out from you.
Rain Flush (Toad Weapon) - A rainstorm covers the screen. Useful for clearing
out lots of enemies at once.
Rush Coil - Not a weapon, but you'll see it on your weapons menu. Rush will
teleport down, and transforms into a springboard you can use to reach high
ledges. (You start out with this adapter.)
Star Crash (Star Weapon) - A shield of stars that can also be thrown.
Water Wave (Wave Weapon) - A small wave that travels along the ground.
8. ITEMS
1-Up - Pretty self-explanatory, isn't it?
Life Energy (small) - Refills a little bit of your life.
Life Energy (large) - Refills more of your life.
Weapon Energy (small) - Refills a little bit of the currently selected weapon.
Weapon Energy (large) - Refills more of the currently selected weapon.
E-Tank - Refills all of your life. These can be saved.
M-Tank - Refills your life, and all of your weapon energy. These can be saved.
9. NOTES
- Due to the change in screen size from the NES to the GG, the screen moves
with you when you jump. You often can't see the terrain ahead or below if
you're too high up, so be careful not to jump into a pit of spikes or anything.
This also can make boss fights a bit more annoying...bosses can hide
off-screen, and you won't be sure what they're doing.
- The stages are relatively the same as the original NES ones, but there's more
color depth all around. The music takes a serious hit, though, due to the GG's
inferior sound system. Some of the music also doesn't match up properly.
- No continues?! Yeah, you read that right. Try not to lose all of your lives
in Wily's castle.
- Speaking of which...why is Wily hanging out in Dr. Cossack's castle from MM4?
- You can only fire two regular shots at a time, rather than three.
10. CREDITS
- Many thanks go out to Capcom and US Gold for bringing classic Mega Man action
to Sega's gutsy lil' handheld!
