1. Introduction/Version History

       Mega Man for Game Gear is an odd game. Made by a company named U.S. Gold for
a handheld that had one of the worst controllers ever, its a rather difficult
game because of the stupidity of the system and some scrolling problems.
Besides that, its a fun game that uses six NES robot masters, and if you
happen to have a Game Gear, try at all costs to get this game. There is no
plot to this game outside of "stop Dr. Wily." But that's okay-Mega Man games
are never known for their great stories anyway.

About this Version:

June 26th, 2003: Version 2. Added information about the Normal and Difficult
options, as well as some spelling corrections and some new thank-yous that I
missed the first time around.

2. Notes on the game

       As I said above, this game is odd. It has four Mega Man 5 robots and two
Mega Man 4 robots, along with Quick Man's stage. When you get a weapon, it
shows up as simply the first word in the robot master's name (such as Star
Crash shows up as 'Star Weapon' on the weapon screen). Another oddity in this
game is that you can only fire two shots on-screen. A big oddity is that robot
masters are invincible for a little bit after you shoot them (like Mega Man).
The stupidest thing with this game is the lack of continues: die all your
lives, and that's it. Keep this in mind whenyou fight them. That's really all
that there is to say about this game, and now onto the play controls.

       There is also strangely a "Normal" and "Difficult" option (just like in
Mega Man 2 for NES) From what I've seen, the only difference is how many shots
it takes to kill enemies. If there were any other differences, someone tell me.

3. Play Controls

       Direction Pad: The Direction Pad is that thing on the left. Use it to control
Mega Man. Left and right move him...left and right, up and down on a latter
takes you up and down a latter.

       Start: Pause the game, make a choice on the stage select screen.

       2: Jump.

       1: Shoot.

       Slide: Push down on the Direction Pad and push 2 to slide. It makes you go
fast, and it cuts Mega Man's height in half. Use it to get past low ceilings and spikes.

       Mega Buster: Charge 1 half-way to shoot a larger shot that is still worth
just one shot. Charge it up all the way to get a shot that is worth 3 shots,
on bosses, 4 shots.

4. Suggested Order

       This game is somewhat odd in that it has some robot masters that don't appear
in any other game outside of their initial NES release (such as Wave Man and
Star Man). I think its interesting to see how they are weak against some
weapons, and how other bosses are hurt by their weapons, but then again I
think its intresting to stare at the sky all day, so don't pay attention to me.

5. Walkthrough

       - Star Man -
       Star Man's stage takes place in space (surprisingly enough), which means you
can jump super-high. This also means you must be careful not to kill yourself
by jumping into spikes. Most of the stage is fairly straight-forward. Make
sure to watch out for the flying bullet-things that come from the end of the
stage-they can knock you right to your death. As for those big two-leged
funky things that shoot lasers at you, simply shoot what looks like an eye.
Near the end of the stage, be sureto "test the waters" of those annoying
missile-like enemies that shoot up from the ground by making a short jump off
and back onto a platform, and then jump to the next platform. The stage isn't
too much trouble, and as I said before, its pretty straight-forward, so you'll
be through it before you know it.

       Star Man himself is pretty easy. Simply shoot him and dodge when he jumps
around. If you have it, you can use Stone Man's weapon on him, but I find it
easier to simply dash and jump to dodge him and then shoot him when he's open.
Star Man's weapon is the Star Crash (called in this game simply 'Star
Weapon'). Its a shield that you can move around with and you can shoot away.
Its a pretty useful weapon.

       - Bright Man -
       The hardest part of this stage is the part where you must jump from a moving
platform to another. My advice is to either decide to be risky and kill the
enemies that make it dark and risk not knowing where the platform is, or to
risk dying and not trying to kill the enemies that make it dark. The rest of
the stage is pretty straight-forward, really. Some of the enemies will get on
your nerves, but nothing serious.

       Bright Man will fall quickly to the Star Crash (er, Star Weapon). Just keep
hitting him with it, and you won't get frozen if you are quick enough. If you
aren't quick enough, then you'll get hit, but it really is no big deal, unless
you are frozen enough and you get shot enough times to die. The weapon you
get is the Flash Stopper ('Bright Weapon'). It freezes every enemy on the
screen, which is somewhat useful.

       - Napalm Man -
       The tigers in this stage hurt Mega Man pretty bad, so focus on destroying
them before worrying about anything else on the screen. The giant robots are
pretty easy if you take your time, but they can get frustrating. The
Helicopter Joes also get rather annoying in this stage, so try to knock them
out as soon as you can. This stage isn't easy, but if you take your time and
you don't get ticked off, you should be fine.

       Napalm Man falls quickly to the Flash Stopper (Bright Weapon). Just freeze
him and then blast him. Be sure to be quick and not let him get his attacks
through between the times you freeze him. If you are quick and make sure that
he doesn't attack you, and you continue to blast him the whole time, this
should be one of the easiest battles of the game.

       - Stone Man -
       Stone Man's Stage isn't really all that difficult, but the combination of
enemies and moving platforms isn't too good for you. The Mets here split into
three little Mets, which can get very annoying. About halfway through the
stage, use Rush Coil to grab a 1-Up. In one of the moving platform segments,
you can grab an E-Tank by jumping to the left. It is the last moving platform
segment that happens inside a cave, and the E-Tank can be clearly seen.

       Stone Man can be a major pain if you don't know what to do. He will jump
a lot and try to crush you and not use his Master Weapon (Power Stone) a lot.
Use the Napalm Bombs and have him crash into them. This is the quickest way
to defeating him, but it might take a couple of tries. Once you get the hang
of it, Stone Man can be defeated rather quickly.

       - Wave Man -
       Most of this stage is pretty easy: it basically consists of watching out for
the leaks in the pipes, and looking out for enemies shooting at you. In the
first part of the stage, take the top tube to get an extra life. At the
vertical part of the stage, get over to the left bubbles, so you don't get
killed by the spikes on the right. After that, you get on a water ski and
shoot Joes on water skis, and defeat the midsboss by shooting the green spot
on his head. After that, waterski for a bit more, and then you are at Wave
Man's lair.

       Unlike the other Robot Masters, Wave Man isn't really weak against any
of the Master Weapons. This means you will have to use your Mega Buster.
Charge it up and fire it after he has jumped and shot his harpoon at you, and
make sure he doesn't jump on your or the gas hits you, and you'll win an
easy victory. The Water Wave (Wave Weapon) isn't all that useful, but it does
do a lot of damage to Toad Man.

       - Toad Man -
       This stage is easy, but you need to be aware that the rain effects your
jumps and your movement. Inside, the water current will effect your movement,
so try to jump more. The mid-bosses are easy: just keep shooting their eyes,
and they'll dye fairly quickly. Most of the stage is pretty straight-forward,
but watch out for enemies that will knock you into holes.

       Good news and bad news. Bad news: Toad Man has been changed from how he
fought in Mega Man 4 for NES and Game Boy. Good News: He hasn't changed much.
To defeat him, just rapid-fire, but in this game, since you can only fire two
shots on the screen at once, and because bosses turn invincible for a short
period of time after they have been shot, it gets harder, and Toad Man will
jump around more, so look out for that. You can also use Water Wave
(Wave Weapon) to take out him out, but that means there will be a larger
chance that he'll be able to use Rain Flush, and that's never good. If you
keep the pressure on him, however, chances are he'll never use the Rain Flush,
and you'll have beaten the last Robot Master quickly and easily.

       - Wily Stage (Quick Man) -
       This stage is just Quick Man's stage from Mega Man 2 on the NES. However, the
stage is a little easier than it was on the NES. For one thing, the lasers
don't kill you instantly: if you touch the tips, it will only damage you.
Another thing is that you have the slide to your advantage, which helps out a
lot. Unfortunately the Flash Stopper (Bright Weapon) does not stop the beams
like Flash Man's weapon did in Mega Man 2. Besides the difficult part with
the beams, most of the stage is pretty easy.


       - Final Battle -
       After you beat Quick Man's stage, you go to a breather stage where you
get a pellet of energy, and then you fight Dr. Wily *dramatic music*.

       Dr. Wily only has one phase of attack: Disappearing and reappearing flying
saucer! He shoots an orb to the floor, which becomes two orbs traveling along
the floor, along with shooting plasma shots in a spiral. Use the Mega Buster
and shoot a charged shot at him every time he appears, but be sure not to be
hit by the plasma shots. With some extra lives and Energy Tanks, this battle
becomes easier, so be sure to have stocked up before you come.


       After that, the credits will roll! Hooray! And they are all in English! Whoo!

6. Robot Master Weapons and Items

       This Mega Man game is odd in that all the weapon names are just the first
name of the boss and then the word 'weapon' added after that. Also odd is the
fact you only get Rush Coil (MM5 form).

       Mega Buster: An unlimited weapon that you can charge up and fire on
       enemy robots.

       Star Crash (Star Weapon): A shield that you can throw. Good for protecting
       yourself with.

       Flash Stopper (Bright Weapon): Freeze all the enemies around you and shoot
       them while they are frozen.

       Napalm Bombs (Napalm Weapon): A bomb that travels on the floor. Useful to
       destroy enemies on a ledge or floor below you.

       Power Stone (Stone Weapon): Stones come out and circle you while flying
       further and further away from you and damage anyone in their path.

       Water Wave (Wave Weapon): This weapon is only really useful against Toad
       Man, seeing how you can't use it on any other Robot Master, and it isn't
       too effective in either Toad Man's or Quick Man's stage. It travels on the
       floor and damages enemies. Not much more to say.

       Rain Flush (Toad Weapon): A full-screen weapon that damages or destroys all
       enemies on the screen. This weapon can't even be used on a Robot Master, and
       isn't too effective on Wily either. However, it could be used to kill
       enemies if you are low on health in Quick Man's stage and you don't want
       to risk dying while fighting enemies face to face.

       Rush Coil: Rush appears in this game only in his Mega Man 5 for NES Rush
       Coil form. It lifts off the ground, and then you can jump at the full
       extent of the lift from the ground to get to high-up places.

7. Stage Items

       This game is funny in that the power-ups in the stages bounce. Or maybe it
       isn't funny. I dunno.

       Large Energy Pellet: Recover lots of energy. It looks like a large
       black and yellow circle.

       Small Energy Pellet: Recover a little bit of energy. It looks like a
       small black and yellow circle.

       Weapon Energy Pellet: An object whose color corresponds to your
       current weapon. Use it to recover weapon energy.

       E-Tank: Grab this and use it later to refill all of your energy.

       M-Tank: Grab this and usei t later to refill both your energy and
       weapon energy.

       Extra Life: Grab this to gain another life, and thus another chance
       to beat the game.

8. Passwords

       Here are the passwords that have Star Man, Bright Man, Napalm Man and Stone
Man defeated. This is the furthest the passwords will take you, which isn't
good, seeing how there is no continues and all.

       Normal Mode: C1, A4, B4, B5, F6.

       Difficult Mode: A3, B5, C3, D3, E5.

glad I could make it for a game in a series I have enjoyed for quite some
