Gregory Helms started his career like most professional wrestlers do, in the
indy leagues. WCW signed him up to a contract in 1999 and became a very nice
midcarder, part of the 3-Count stable. During the final 2 years of WCW, Shane
became well known for his impressive in-ring skills and it was wrestlers like
him that showed the true strength of WCW: it's midcarders, no other league
could compare. In 2001, Helms was signed up by WWE/F as part of the WCW/ECW
Alliance angle that was taking part that year. For a little while, he had no
gimmick and was just another lowly member on the roster. He then got a
gimmick: he would become the Hurricane. Sporting a green cape,
black-and-green facepaint and an "H" on his chest, he became a superhero. He
would come down to the ring, strike a pose and shout "Wassup wit dat?" in a
high-pitched voice, fans loved the gimmick, and Hurriance was pushed as a
strong midcarder, like he was before.
