Author's Notes
----------------
I created this FAQ to get in depth about Haru's "Ultimate Groove Attacks"
(specials). Whereas most characters in Rave Groove Adventure only have 1 or 2
Groove Attacks / Ultimate Groove Attacks, Haru and King have several.
Enjoy the FAQ, and please, do not copy this without my permission. If you want to
copy it or post it up on your site, you're welcome to do so, just make sure I get
the proper credit. Please don't go out and say that YOU made this FAQ or anything.
Also, I don't approve of this being used for commercial use and profit (that means
you, IGN GameFAQs wannabe!).
Gameplay Basics
---------------
Here, I'll define a few terms for you, be aware that I'll use their abbreviations
further along in this FAQ.
-Groove Guage (GG): This is the meter below your energy. Every time you grab a
cyrstal or hit someone, your groove guage will charge slightly.
-Groove Attack (GA): Press the 'R' Button to use a Groove Attack. This will
consume some of your GG energy.
-Ultimate Groove Attack (UGA): Once your GG meter is up to max, you will know if
you are capable of performing a special or not if your box is flashing (the box
which contains all of your health and Groove Guage meters). If you have a full
meter and it is not flashing, you probably have the wrong Orbs or weapons.
Once it is flashing however, press the 'R' AND 'L' Buttons at the SAME time to
perform an Ultimate Groove Attack.
-Orbs: Orbs are... well... orbs which appear on the battle field randomly. Press
the Z trigger to pick them up. Orbs will give you special abilities, but here in
this FAQ, I will only discuss their use to get your UGA or GA. For Haru and King,
there weapons will change based upon what orbs they currently have in their
possesion. If you get hit, or die, you may lose some of your orbs, so be careful.
Orbs come in 3 types, Red, Blue, and Yellow. Red are for offense, Blue are for
Defense, and Yellow are for special Y Button attacks. You can only have 1 of each
type at a time (so you can only have 3 orbs). Doubles of orbs will not appear in
the game (so two people can't have Shiva's Rave at once, for example).
-Weapons: Weapons will appear randomly on the battle field and in boxes. Press
the Z trigger to pick them up, press the Z trigger again to drop them. You can
use other character's GA with their weapons, but you can't use their UGA, even if
you have their weapon and orbs.
-Energy Meter: Your energy is measured in bars, and you start out with 10 bars.
When damage is dealt, your bars deplete, and if you lose all of your bars, you
lose a life. Damage is measured in fractions of bars (since Konami decided to go
with the whole "music theme" that Rave has going for it), and below I try to
ESTIMATE how much damage each attack does. However, it's really hard to get just
the right fraction of a bar, and you'll notice that sometimes attacks do slightly
more, or slightly less damage (it seems random), although it doesn't make a big
difference in the long run.
Basic Controls
--------------
-A-button Attack: Press the A button to attack. Most characters only have
one A button attack, but some characters (such as Let)
will be able to do a combo attack if you press the A
button repeatedly. The A button will knock a weapon or
orb out of your opponent's hands, if they have any, as
well as knocking them down.
-B-button Attack: Press the B button rapidly to do a combo attack, 3-5
attacks will be performed before the character you are
attacking is knocked down (depending on which character
you're using).
-Jumping: Press the X Button jump, some characters can perform
double jumps by pressing X again while they're in the
air.
-Blocking: Press the L button to block. If you press it just as you
are being attacked, you can push your enemy backwards,
and giving you a free shot or two at them. Blocking
consumes groove energy though, and if you have no groove
energy and try to block something, you will be able to
block it (most of the time), but you will be knocked
back and momentarily stunned.
-Rising Attack: While you're on the ground after being knocked down,
press the A button to attack while you're getting up.
-Air Recovery: If you've been knocked down, but haven't hit the ground
yet, press the X button to recover yourself in mid-air.
So rather than falling to the ground, you will land and
be able to resume attacking right away. Keep in mind
that while you're knocked down or falling, you cannot be
hurt, so sometimes it's best just to stay down, if you
know what I mean ^_- .
-Orb Attack: If you have a yellow orb in your possesion and enough
groove energy, press the Y button to use that orb's
attack. This will range from setting spikes, to causing
explosions, to shooting voids of darkness.
-Extra Hit: Pressing the B Button 3 times will usually knock the
other character up into the air. However, while they're
fallind down, you can get an extra shot in on them by
press B or A again just at the right time while they're
falling (this is an expert's technique, novices
probably won't be able to do this right away).
Plue Mechanics
--------------
In case you don't already know, Plue is that annoying little dog / alien / bug /
snowman / vibrator that runs around the arena in every battle. However, you
should be aware that he has a use other than simply hitting the poor little
bugger around and laughing sadistically.
-Firstly, you can hit Plue around, and he'll nail other players. It's hard to do,
and it doesn't do much damage, but it's a good projectile attack to throw your
enemy off guard. Watch out for flying Plues, by the way.
-If you have a Conflict Rave, you can press the Y Button to make Plue nail the
closest opponent. It knocks them down, deals damage, and makes them drop all their
orbs / weapons. This attack can be blocked however, again, watch out for a flying
Plue!
-The most important use of Plue however is his ability to heal you. If you're
hurt, go over and stand by Plue. He'll run around you a few times, or just stand
next to you. You'll flash blue, and some of your energy will be restored. This
is quite useful, actually.
Also, be aware that if you beat the crap out of Plue to much during a battle,
every time you get close to him / her / it will run away. Thus, you won't be able
to be healed by Plue anymore. That's your punishment for being so mean to the
poor cute little thing!
--------------------
Part 1: Haru Glory
--------------------
Weapon: To use Haru's specials, you'll need his weapon, the "Ten Commandments
Sword". It looks like a Broad Sword, with the letters "TCM" written above it.
Ten Commandments Sword - EISENMETEOR
------------------------------------
Description: Large silver broad sword (all to easily confused with King's
Decalogs), it's slow, but deals a good amount of damage.
Needed Orbs: None
Damage Per Hit: 1 1/6th Bar (1.166 Bars)
3-Hit Damage: 3 1/2 Bars (3.5 Bars)
-GA: One Stroke Defying Bolt
Shoots 3 energy blades across the ground. Deals a little
damage, and will only knock them down if all 3 blades hit.
Medium-range attack. Can be used 5 times with a full Groove
Guage.
Damage Per Hit: 1/2 Bar (.5 Bars)
Full Damage: 1 5/6 Bars (1.833 Bars)
-UGA: None
Comments: Pretty basic sword, it's mediocre, and a little bit on the slow-side
for my tastes. I'd take something like Rosa's Dancing Wolf over this
one anyday, if it weren't for the fact that you need it to get the
higher-level swords... Suprisingly enough though it does slightly more
damage than the Explosion sword, but it's major draw back is that it is
very slow, with a mediocre GA and no UGA to speak of.
Overall Rating: 5 / 10
Explosion Sword
---------------
Description: It's a red sword which explodes, dealing massive ammounts of damage
when it strikes the enemy.
Needed Orbs: Shiva's Rave (Red type, looks like a short sword.)
Damage Per Hit: 1 Bar
3-Hit Damage: 3 1/4 Bars (3.25 Bars)
-GA "Explosion Dance"
Haru quickly launches forward towards the enemy, and deals
damage while knocking them down if it hits. Closer-range attack.
Can be used twice with a full Groove Guage.
Full Damage: 1 1/3 Bars (1.333 Bars)
-UGA "Exploding Sword - Explosive Dance!"
Haru launches foward at enemies 4 times, much like the above
attack, only Haru is capable of going from one end of the arena
to the other, and each hit deals a good amount of damage.
Damage Per Hit: 2 1/4 Bars (2.25 Bars)
Maximum Damage: 9 Bars
-UGA "Exploding Divine Punishment - Fiery Wings"
Firstly, you need the explosion sword and a full GG meter. Then
get your HP down to 10% or less (1 bar or less), and only THEN
can you use this attack!
Haru dashes forward, dealing damage to anything he hits, and
then his trail is followed by 10 large explosions (each
explosion deals damage) moving at the speed of sound. This is
quite an impressive move, as Haru can go from one end of the
arena to the other in the blink of an eye. Use while you're
further away from the enemy to deal more damage. That way Haru
will hit them with his sword, knocking them up in the air, and
then the following explosion will nail them again while they're
coming down for double the damage. Long-range attack.
Damage Per Hit: 2 Bars (damage from sword)
Damage Per Hit: 2 1/4 Bars (2.25 Bars) (damage from explosion)
Maximum Damage: 4 1/4 Bars (4.25 Bars)
Comments: The explosion sword can deal damage comperable to that of the TCM, but
it's A LOT faster. The GA isn't all that great, and it uses up almost
half of your Groove Guage just using it once. This sword has an
unbelievable 2 UGAs (instead of just one, like all the other swords),
both of which are quite sweet. Combined with its physical power makes
this one awesome sword. Be sure to use this whenever you can!
Overall Rating: 8 / 10
Silverleon
----------
Description: A light blue / silver sword which attacks very quickly, it's only a
one-sided blade, unlike the Explosion and TCM (which are double-sided).
Needed Orbs: Knowledge Rave (Blue type, looks like a paw-print)
Damage Per Hit: 2/5ths of a Bar (.4 Bars)
3-Hit Damage: 1 1/3 Bars (1.333 Bars)
GA: "Silverleon - High Speed!"
Haru dashes at the nearest enemy 3 times in rapid succession,
slashing the enemy and inflicting damage. Mid-range attack.
Can be used 2 times with a full Groove Guage.
Damage Per Hit: 2/3rds of a Bar (.666 Bars)
Full Damage: 2 1/3 Bars (2.333 Bars)
UGA: "??? Sword - Super High Speed!"
Haru dashes forward 7 times in rapid succession (each dash is
enough to cover half an arena or more), slashing anything and
everything in his way. Long-range attack.
Damage Per Hit: 1 1/3 Bars (1.333 Bars)
Full Damage: 9 1/2 Bars (9.5 Bars)
Comments: This sword's physical attacks may not be too buff, but they are
slightly faster than the Explosion Sword's. The UGA and GA moves are
awesome (unless you are stopped early in your tracks by a flying
Plue!), just be sure to use them away from anyone (so they can't stop
your special early when it's just starting). I LUV ITS UGA, I LUV THIS
SWORD, I LUV ELIE's Br... err.. face!
Overall Rating: 9 / 10
RuneSabre
---------
Description: A green sword with a rather unique shape. This sword was originally
created to "cut the uncutable", and as a defensive sword. It's seen a few minor
changes from the anime (as it can now be used to attack as well as defend from
magical attacks).
Needed Orbs: Conflict Rave (Yellow type, looks like two wings.)
Damage Per Hit: 5 / 14ths of a Bar (.357 Bars)
3-Hit Damage: 8 / 7ths of a Bar (1.143 Bars)
GA: ???
Shoots one small sphere out which homes in on the enemy it was
pointed at. When it hits the enemy, it deals damage and 1 of 3
status ailments. Either it shocks them (dealing more damage over
time), burns them (dealing more damage over time), or freezes
them (holding them in place for a few seconds). Can be used 5
times with a full groove gauge.
Damage Per Hit: 2/3rds of a Bar (.666 Bars) (Ice)
Damage Per Hit: 2 1/4th Bars (2.25 Bars) (Lightning)
Damage Per Hit: 2 1/2 Bars (2.5 Bars) (Fire)
UGA: ???
Same as above, only instead of shooting 1 mere sphere, Haru
shoots 10 of them! Unfortunetly also like the above attack,
all of the blasts can be easily outrun! Long-range attack.
Damage Per Hit: 2/3rds of a Bar (.666 Bars) (Ice)
Damage Per Hit: 2 1/4th Bars (2.25 Bars) (Lightning)
Damage Per Hit: 2 1/2 Bars (2.5 Bars) (Fire)
Comments: Weak, weak, WEAK! Yes, this sword is weak. It's GA and UGA moves are
pathetic, heck, even King can outrun it! It's physical attacks are
nothing to write home about (even though they're fast). The dumb CPU
will usually just walk into your UGA, but even a quasi-intelligent human
being will be able to dodge it. Sure, the UGA can deal a ton of damage
if it actually hits someone, but that's not going to happen.
-Overall Rating: 1 / 10
Double Dragon Swords
Blue-Crimson
----------------------------
Description: You hold two swords (one in each hand), both looking similar to the
TCM sword. One sword controls fire, while the other controls ice.
Needed Orbs: Any 2 of the 3 Raves (Shiva's Rave, Knowledge Rave, Conflict Rave)
A-Button + Freeze: 2/3rds Bars (.666 Bars)
B-Button + Burn: 2 Bars (2 Bars)
B-Button 4-Hit: 4 1/8th Bars (4.125 Bars)
B-Button 5-Hit: 5 7/8ths Bars (5.875 Bars)*
*Note: 2 strike 5 times, hit the B Button once, stop, then keep mashing the B
button. This inflicts more damage than a regular 4-strike attack.
GA: ???
Haru swings both of his swords around, shooting out 2 magical
blades, one composed of fire, the other composed of ice (fire
burns you, ice freezes you). The blades will dart about the
arena for a few seconds, and disappear if they hit anyone or
disappear after a few seconds of not hitting anyone. Long-range
attack. You can perform this move 3 times with a full Groove
Guage.
Damage Per Hit: 2 1/4th Bars (.25 Bars) (Burn)
Damage Per Hit: 7/8ths Bars (.875 Bars) (Freeze)
UGA: ???
Haru raises his swords in the air, and brings them down in
front of him (damaging anyone who is next to you), and
summoning freezing or burning meteors to fall from the
heavens. If an enemy is hit by an ice meteor, they will be
frozen, and if they are hit by a fire meteor, they will be
burned (it is possible for someone to be hit multiple times).
This move covers the entire arena basically, but if you're
moving around while Haru does it, your chances of being hit
by one of the falling meteors is pretty slim. And even if you
are hit, this move isn't particularly deadly.
Damage Per Hit: 2 1/2 Bars (2.5 Bars) (Freeze)
Damage Per Hit: 2 7/8ths Bars (2.875 Bars) (Burn)
Damage Per Hit:
Comments: When they hit your opponent, one sword will set them on fire, while
the other sword will freeze them. While they're on fire, damage will be dealt
to them, and while they're frozen, they won't be able to move. Its A and B
button attacks are quite impressive, but I don't care much for its GA or UGA,
which are merely mediocre compared to some of Haru's other GAs or UGAs. But
not only can they deal massive ammounts of damage, burn and freeze your
opponets, but they're really fast too! This is definetly the best sword in
the game so far as physicl attacks go, use it whenever you can!
-Overall Rating: 10 / 10
Hollow Sword Melforce
----------------------
Description: Blue Crimson were the swords of fire and ice, but Melforce is the
mighty sword of wind (Haru means a type of wind in another language, and Haru's
father's name is Gale, King's real name is Gale Leagrove... get the whole wind
connection here?). Melforce is perhaps one of the COOLEST looking swords yet,
it is partially green and partially light-blue, with some very interesting
designs on it, and a cool hand-guard. Man, I wish I had one of those!
Needed Orbs: All 3 of the Raves (Shiva's Rave, Knowledge Rave, Conflict Rave)
Damage Per Hit: 1/2 of a Bar (.5 Bars)
3-Hit Damage: 1 2/3rds of a Bar (1.6 Bars)
A-Button Blade: 5/8ths of a Bars (.625 Bars)*
*Note: If you press the A Button, Haru will shoot out a blade of wind which
can travel all the way from one end of the arena to the other. And it doesn't
even consume any Groove Energy! Wow, sweet projectile attack!
GA: ???
Haru swings his mighty Melforce sword, shooting out 3 mighty
Gales of energy. Medium-range attack (although best in close
range), Haru can use this move 2 times with a full Groove
Guage. This GA is basically the same as the Blue Crimson's GA,
except that now you have one extra blade flying around, the
move uses up more energy, and the blades don't deal status
effects (burning or freezing) if they hit. Not that great of a
move really...
Damage Per Hit: 3/4ths Bars (.75 Bars)
UGA: ???
Haru creates a massive cyclone wherever he was standing when he
used his special. This cyclone lasts for about 10 seconds,
during which time it shoots blades of wind at all enemies
(about 25 blades total), this is a difficult special to dodge,
but it doesn't deal that much damage. This is a long-range
attack since it covers the entire arena. If you're knocked
down by this special, tis' best to stay down as long as
possible to sort of "weather out the storm".
Damage Per Hit: 1 1/2 Bars (1.5 Bars)
Comments: The Melforce sword has some fairly good physical attacks, although
they're nothing special, and only moderate in speed. The GA isn't that great
either, but the UGA is pretty sweet (although not as sweet as some of Haru's
other UGAs, it's better than Blue Crimson's UGA at least). This sword's
biggest advantage would probably be it's A button attack, which gives you
unlimited projectile attacks (like Elie's Tonfa Gun's A-button attack).
Melforce would be a cool first or second level sword, but it's basically a
joke considering it's a fourth level sword and you need to find 3 orbs and the
TCM to use it. Still, it's a cool sword, with a nice UGA, but I'd take the
Blue Crimson or Silverleon over it any day.
-Overall Rating: 8 / 10
-Character Notes: Haru is moderatly fast (although Elie, Rosa, or Reina
can easily out run him), with some moderate physical
and jumping abilities. If you're going to use Physical
A and B Button attacks, stick with the Blue-Crimson
swords. If you're talking about Special Moves, use
your Silverleon or Melforce, since they definetly
have the best UGA moves. And overall, stay away from
RuneSabre alltogether.
The strategy if you're up against Haru is fairly
obvious: take his orbs and swords and keep them.
Especially that darn EVIL conflict Rave, so he can't
smack you with Plue to get his stuff back. And be sure
to get that darn knowledge Rave, since that cheap
thing heals anyone really fast, making it a real
annoyance when you're trying to kill them.
--------------------
Part 2: Elie
--------------------
Since I'm making 2 FAQs (one for Haru, one for King), and since I'm putting a
bit in King's FAQ about the Beast King, I felt I should do the same for Haru's
FAQ, just for symetry's sake. That's where Elie comes in, she's the babe of
the series, plus that and she has two UGA moves, and one of the cheapest, most
annoying weapons in the game. So she's worth mentioning at least...
Weapon - The Tonfa Guns: All of Elie's specials require that she is in
possesion of the Tonfa guns at the time. The Guns look like two short
rods with handles on them. They are certainly very oddly shapped guns,
but they are one of the best weapons in long-range. By pressing the
A-button, Elie can shoot anyone from one side of the arena
-GA ???
Elie spins around in a circle, firing bullets in all
directions, dealing damage and knocking down anyone it hits.
Long-range attack, Elie can use this move 3 times with a full
Groove Guage.
Damage Per Hit: 1 1/3 Bars (1.3 Bars)
-UGA "BAKA!" (Idiot!)
Basically the same attack as above, only this time the bullets
are much large, and more explosive. They explode on impact,
dealing more damage than the regular GA. Long-range Attack.
Damage Per Hit: 3 1/3 Bars (3.3 Bars)
Needed Orbs: All 3 of the Raves (Shiba's Rave, Conflict Rave, Knowledge Rave)
-UGA "Onegai, ..." (Please, ...)
Elie folds her hands together and prays, summoning the power of
"Etherion" (the power which created Rave), from deep within
herself. A massive beam shoots out of her, dealing massive
damage to anyone it hits. Also, the area around Elie will glow
with magical energy, dealing damage to anyone who was standing
next to her. You can't control the beam, and it only attacks
about half of the arena at once, so it is quite possible to
dodge this attack.
Damage Per Hit: 4 1/3 Bars (4.3 Bars)
-Character Notes: Elie is one of the fastest characters in the game, and
she can jump quite high, so use this to your advantage.
Get your Tonfa Guns as soon as possible, and then
you'll be able to waste almost any opponent in long
range. Elie's close-range physical attacks aren't all
that bad either. Annoy the enemy in long range with
your Tonfa Guns, until you can get your second UGA
(don't bother much with the first UGA, it's not that
great of a move anyway).
When you're up against Elie, KEEP HER GUNS AWAY FROM
HER AT ALL COSTS! Boy, she get's REALLY annoying when
she finally gets ahold of them. She's a fast character,
so she may be tough to catch, but she sure isn't a very
strong character. Personally, I'd worry more about
someone like Rosa than Elie...
If she uses her GA or first UGA, you can usually just
jump over it (and her A-button) attack, with a double
jump. Give it a try!
------------------------
Part 3: Relavent Codes
------------------------
Unlock Secret Costumes for Haru, Elie, and Musica!
--------------------------------------------------
Once you've unlocked 3 on 1 in Free Mode, put it on Hard, and beat it as either
Haru, Elie, or Musica. Each time, you will unlock 2 new pieces of art in EX
Options mode (one CGI, one character artwork). Then go to either Story Mode, Free
Mode, or Versus Mode. When selecting your character, hold down L AND R, and keep
them held down until the round begins, this will make them use their second
costume (you must beat it once with each of these 3 characters to unlock each of
their extra costumes). Haru will be in a Plue costume, Elie will be in a
schoolgirls outfit, and Musica will be shirtless with Red Hair.
Yes, that Plue costume is VERY disturbing ^_^'
Unlock Reina
------------
At the title screen where it says ''PRESS START BUTTON'', press UP, UP, DOWN,
DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A. If done correctly, you will hear a voice
and Reina will be playable in Free and Vs. modes.
Thanks to mao2 and GAME daihouko for that code. Reina seems to be only a partial
character to me, as she has no weapon, darkbring, GA, UGA, and heck, she only has
3 voice samples and 3 images in her file. Come on Konami, work harder!
