                        ************
                        General FAQs
                        ************

Q) If this is for the JPN version does it still apply?

A) As far as I know, most things will be the same for both versions, apart
from possibly some of the cutscenes. Let me know if anything is wrong
  though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) Can you explain X Y Z in the plot / storyline?

A) No. This is NOT a plot FAQ. This game has a complex twisting storyline, at
least part of which is left to be interpreted by the gamer, and part of
which may have been in the Japanese memos etc in the game so I don't know
  them!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) What difficulty should I start on?

A) Normal is very easy, with hints all over the map screen, and enemy
weakpoints automatically targeted. I'd recommend starting on Hard unless
  you're quite an unexperienced gamer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How long is the game?

A) About 15 hrs for the first playthrough, 10 or so afterwards. There is an
unlockable mode worth playing through too, so I'd say a good 30 hrs overall.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) Is it suitable for children?

A) No - it carries an age rating for a reason. Not just violence (plenty),
swearing (even more) and sexual references (rare but strong), but also
political themes, religious allegory and psychological concepts that are
  designed for an adult audience.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                        ****************
                        Target 00: Angel                      #00
                        ****************

Q) How do I kill the egg laying thing in the car park?

A) You need to shoot the weakspot - on easy difficulty this is yellow and
anyone can shoot it out, on the harder difficulties it's red so you should
use Dan's Collateral Shot (y-button charge *3, you'll need three test tubes
  of blood to do this).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get into the library?

A) You need to get the heat ring from Susie in the Laundry room dryer, then

  i)  Equip it and light the candles in room 212 in order to get one item (if
you get the wrong order use the air-con to blow them out).

ii) Use the ring on the sprinkler in the restroom upstairs to set it off,
flush the toilet and then go back down to the laundry room to pick up
the other item. Now you can use the control panel in the library to open
      the bookcases.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I open the locked door?

A) Switch to Coyote, he can unlock doors.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I break down cracked walls?

A) Switch to Mask, and shoot them. There's one in the library and one in the
corridor section before the boiler rooms.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the two soul shells?

A) The first one is in the car park, just talk to Travis. The second is behind
a barrier just before the boiler rooms (where the spirit hanging down the
wall is). Switch to Kaede and press Y to use her special which will break
the barrier (you need at least one test-tube of blood to do this).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) What's the code to the boiler room door?

A) Use Kaede's special ability by the wall behind you, it'll change the phrase
written on there to reveal the code. It's "NO".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I pass the Gatekeeper?

A) Collect the two souls shells - see above.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat the Angel?

A) Switch to Kaede, and turn around. Wait until the Angel's hand glows, then
run clockwise until you're almost behind her, zoom in and shoot one of the
faces on her back. Repeat three times. When you meet again, just shoot Kun
Lan behind her, then Kun Lan's sparkling hand.

Q) How do I jump up to the roof?

A) Switch to Coyote, and press Y to do use his special ability (you need at
least one test-tube of blood to do this)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I open the door in the statue room?

A) Get the Water ring from Susie on the roof, and equip it to use it on the
vase in the guest room. The painting will have the item you need behind it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I solve the bridge-lowering puzzle outside?

A) Close the following shutters:

  North room    Black Warrior
  East room     Azure Dragon
  South room    Red Phoenix
  West room     White Panther

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get past the Gateman?

A) You need the soul shell that fell down when the bridge lowered.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill the Phantom Smile that teleports?

A) Just shoot him in the face (Kaede's the best for this). Otherwise it'll
  teleport right next to you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill Kisugi?

A) It's just a shootathon - whoever scores the most hits in the time period is
the winner. It doesn't actually make much difference if you choose a faster-
firing character as she adjusts her firing in accordance. I found Kevin to
be the best for this, with no reload time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 2
******

Q) How do I get past the vending machine?

A) Select the products with initials BTJ, CSC, WTS. This was written in the
windshield of the car at the start of this section.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the first soul shell?

A) Roll double ones, the same as the lady had in the poster in the other room.
Just keep rolling until they come up. Theoretically the chances are 1 in 36
but I found they'll come up faster than that.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the second soul shell?

A) You need to beat the 9,10,J,Q,K hand in the poster on this floor, so turn
over the 9 when you get to choose your cards, leaving 10,J,Q,K,A. For any
Poker novices out there, this is a better hand!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the third soul shell?

A) Guess the finish order for the horse race, in accordance with the poster in
the other room on this floor. It's 1437625.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the fourth soul shell?

A) Set the background for the tiles that matches (you guessed it) the three
posters in the corridor on this floor. These change each time, so I can't
just give the option to choose.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I pass the laser barriers?

A) Switch to Kevin, and use invisibility (press Y, you need at least one test
tube of blood to do this)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat Jean DePaul?

A) Switch to one of the faster firing characters, and simply shoot the cracked
ceiling above where he's standing. Dies in one go.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I work the lift controls to get to the roof?

A) You need to pick up an item reached by using Coyote's jump from one of the
rooms on one of the floors through the ceiling into the room above.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get into the boardroom?

A) Get the Wind ring from Susie in the basement, and equip it to blow away the
cover to the boardroom entrance on the roof.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat the two old men (Kurahashi & Akiba)?

A) Use Kaede, and zoom in to shoot the tie of the one on the right. The one on
the left will reach over to straighten his tie, showing his brain. Shoot
this three times to kill him. Now the remaining man will send up brains in
the air, you need to shoot his brain which he'll show if
  i) You shoot all but one of the brains while they're circling
ii) You wait for all the brains to shoot at (and miss) you, he'll also
crouch over for a second here and you've time for a shot.

                        Target 02: Cloudsman                  #01
                        ********************

Q) How do I get the Stamina Ring?

A) Use Mask to push the Gas tanker away from the pump, and talk to Susie by the
pump. Equip it and you'll take less damage when hit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill the Giant Smiles?

A) You need to shoot them in the eye. Kaede is good at this from a distance,
but once they've started walking it's better to use a faster firer like
Con. If all else fails, just run away once they're close and they'll fall
  over and explode harmlessly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get into the houses in the suburbs?

A) Use Coyote to jump over the garages to enter each one. You need a test tube
  of blood each time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I pass through the gate with the computer terminal?

A) First you need to insert the item you can find in house 210 (by using the
Water Ring to fill up the vase), then enter the code that Travis had
written on his shirt when you saw him at the gas station. It's "HUSTLE".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I collect all the Ulmeyda figurines?

A) You can get 10 of them (all except no. 7 and 12) from the machine in the
bar, with tokens from the Ulmeyda Smiles you've killed. No. 12 is the ltd.
edition Ulmeyda which is in house 206 in the suburbs, use Kaede by the
blood splash on the wall to reveal it. Show your Ulmeyda photo (in the items
part of the pause menu) at the drug store to open the side building where
  No. 7 is.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I enter the mountain pass?

A) Collect all the figurines.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) What are the answers to the questions to enter the First Life building?

A) The answer choices (from the posters) are 1,2,3,2,1,3,3.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat Andrei Ulmeyda?

A) Simply run around the ambulances until you get behind him, and shoot the
glowing head dragging behind him. It only takes one shot, so use Con as he's
a fast runner. If Ulmeyda turns around just run as he'll shoot at you.

Part 1

Q) How do I kill the Armoured Smiles?

A) The ones introduced at the start of this level can be dispatched by one shot
from Mask. The more heavily armoured ones introduced after the movie theatre
section require a 1-charge Mask shot (press Y once before shooting, you need
at least one test tube of blood to do this).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I break the cracked barrier?

A) You need to upgrade Mask first. This is in a chest in the movie theatre
  section.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill the 'Jetpack' Smiles?

A) Well, you can actually just shoot them but it takes a bit of luck. You can
get them with Dan's collateral shot, but it's less wasteful of blood just
to switch to Kevin and go invisible.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill the Duplicate Smile in the movie theatre?

A) Use Dan to Collateral shoot the red weakspots.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I upgrade Mask?

A) Use him to open the treasure chest in one of the movie theatres.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I find the circuit breaker?

A) You need to use the Past Ring (which you can get from Susie in one of the
theatre chests) on the furniture past the movie theatres.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the soul shell?

A) Put the circuit breaker back in place (where the 'Jetpack' Smile came from),
then use the Wind Ring on the balloons that fly down.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the soul shell in the Killered Mansion?

A) Go through the door on each level which has the Smile facing towards you.
Ignore the other doors. At the top use Coyote to jump up and talk to Travis.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the soul shell in the Freaky Funhouse?

A) First use Con to duck under the low section, then Mask to blow a hole in the
wall of the next. Use Kaede to shoot the squeakers out of the holes in the
rotating plinth in the next room, and then switch to Kevin for the room
after as it contains three Jetpack Smiles. Finally use Kaede to shoot the
targets to get to the section with the Ceramic Smile.

Just stay by the door, and zoom in to where the Smiles running to. He'll
stop and turn when he sees you to run the other way, but there's enough time
to take a shot at his heart. If you miss, just turn around to have a shot in
the other direction. It only takes one, then collect the soul shell and
upgraded gun for Dan from the Angel.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill the Plated Smile in the HandlinGrove?

A) If you have CriticalLockon with one of your characters, or are playing on
easy, just lock on and shoot. If not, the weakspot is usually on one of
his arms (at elbow level) so shoot around there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill Ayame (first fight)?

A) This is quite an annoying fight, it'll take a while as she's so fast you'll
only hit her every now and then. I found the best tactic to be to use Mask
as his weapon means you don't have to get such an exact hit. Shoot just in
front of her every time she runs past, and after 15 shots or so she's done.
Keep an eye on your health and fill up from your test-tubes as necessary,
and make sure you've equipped the Stamina Ring.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 2
******

Q) How do I get the soul shell from the statue in the garden?

A) Use Dan's Collateral shot to dislodge it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the item from the water tank near the entrance?

A) Use the heat ring to steam off the water.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get through the laser barrier?

A) Use Kevin's invisibility. Shoot at the sparkling wire the other side of the
door to disable the lasers for coming back through.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I solve the car-moving puzzle?

A) Move them so the gap is at the right of the grid, in the middle. Another car
will pull in, with Susie in the trunk. Talk to her and she'll give you the
Attack Ring, which increases the power of your attacks when worn.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the soul shell in the house?

A) Use the Water Ring to put out the fire in the fireplace, the soul shell is
behind it. You can jump up the chimney with Coyote and talk to Travis here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat the Armoured Smile with the glowing chest?

A) Switch to Mask, and use a 2-charge shot (press Y twice whilst aiming before
shooting, you need two test tubes of blood to do this).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the soul shells in the house past the long path?

A) In the east section, use the Past ring on the Cuckoo clock to get the shell.
In the western section, use Con to duck into a sideroom where the shell is.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill Ayame (second fight)?

A) Once again I'd recommend Mask, just shoot her as many times as you can. Keep
a careful eye on the shutters that go up as she only shoots you when she's
in the light (although you can get her while they're going up/coming down).
Keep an eye on your health and wear the Stamina Ring. Once she's beaten,
operate the security system to open the door to the pool area.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I drain the pool?

A) Use the pump system at the back of it (near the door Coyote can unlock back
out to the garden by the statue). Use Mask to blow a hole in the side of the
pool to access a Harman's room.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill the Laser Smile?

A) Use Kaede, and zoom in to shoot it's face (lock on if you can). You have to
shoot it fast, or it'll laser you!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I kill Curtis Blackburn?

A) First off, you need to be Dan to get into his room, so that's a good start!
You need to be quick on the draw when the pigeon flies up, but not so fast
that you try and shoot if the pigeon just hops. If you do this, Curtis'll
get a free shot. First to four hits wins.

The secret is to watch the pigeon verrrry carefully. If it's going to fly,
it bobs down a tiny bit first. When it hops up it just hops straight away,
so hold off the trigger if you didn't see it inch down first. Once you've
mastered this you should be able to beat him 4-0 each time as he's actually
  very slow on the draw.

Q) How do I get the barrel out of the way near the first Harman's Room?

A) Use Mask. He strong like bull.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I collect all the Handsome Men colour lock pieces?

A) Iwazaru's good for something you know. He's all over the place on this
level, but never hidden or anything. Talk to him everywhere to get all the
  pieces.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I find my way through the maze of alleys in Random Town?

A) Switch to Con, and look for the sound 'ripples' in the distance. Carry on
along the main path until you see a turning where the ripples are
originating from, and follow the turning. Now repeat - it only takes about
three side alleys to get to the exit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) Ho do I kill the 'Rolling' Smiles?

A) They do have weak spots but these move too fast to reasonably rely on
hitting. Just wait for them to roll up and counter them.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get into the church and kill the Duplicate Smile inside?

A) Use the Heat ring on the lantern at the back of the shrine. As always with
the duplicates, use Dan's collateral shot (3-charge) to take out each of
  the red spots.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the colour-lock piece in the painting in the small house?

A) Use Mask to blow a hole in the wall, and hey presto - the room beyond looks
just like the painting, including Iwazaru plus lock piece.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I open the gate to Trevor's mansion?

A) Use the Wind ring on the wind turbines around the side.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I use the coloured-lantern shortcut doors?

A) Light the ones outside Trevor's mansion with the Heat ring, this'll
activate the other sides to them as well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat the Handsome Men? They always seem to defeat some of the
  Smiths.

A) As far as I can tell the fights are pretty much predetermined. It seems to
  go:

Harman vs Handsome Red          - Harman wins (1 shot)
Con vs Handsome White Pearl     - Con loses
Coyote vs Handsome Gold         - Coyote wins
Kaede vs Handsome Light Brown   - Kaede loses (at reload)
Kevin vs Handsome Dead          - Kevin loses
Dan vs Handsome Blue            - Dan wins (1 shot)
Mask vs Handsome Purple         - Mask loses, then is upgraded, then you
can use his new 5-charge to win
Garcian vs Handsome Pink        - Er, they just talk.

Q) How do I get the Soul Shell in the lobby?

A) Take Garcian into the Harman's Room into the lobby and switch to Kaede. Use
her special ability behind the counter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the Soul Shell in the bathtub?

A) Shoot the sparkling hairdryer cord, this'll stop you electrocuting one of
  the Smiths!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How about the one in the dark room? Or in the wardrobe? Or in the locked
  room?

A) Use the heat ring, Mask's guns, Coyote's lockpicking. Really, this should
all be bread and butter now. There aren't really any puzzles on this level.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get the Shell under the petals on the 7th floor?

A) Use the Wind ring to blow the petals away to reveal it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat the 'Plague' Smile?

A) This guy's pretty cool - you need to shoot all the red boils, but bear in
mind when he only has one left he'll start sprinting at you! So the best
method is to run close, use Kaede to shoot all but 2 of the biggest spots,
then back up to the entrance, switch to a faster shooter like Con and pick
  off the last two.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 2

Q) How do find the tape recorder?

A) In the data room, you need to enter into the panel the code corresponding
to the number of transformations in each poster (in the data room) for each
toy in the posters (in the corridor outside the data room). If you can't be
bothered to figure it out, it's 3576. A section will open up and Travis
  will give you the recorder.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) Where are the tapes?

A) Well, there's one by the toy posters near the start, more dotted around
the classrooms and then one you'll get in the library. You don't actually
need to listen to all of them if you use this FAQ though!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) Where is the Soul Shell?

A) Shoot locker 666 to get the Soul Shell. and open another locker door. Travis
is in 656 if you want to talk to him.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I open the big iron doors?

A) When you shot locker 666 it opened another locker door. Shoot this and two
more open, shoot the further one, then another two open, shoot the further
one again, and 650 will open. Select Mask and get his last upgrade suit.
Now shoot this locker to open 680 (at the other end of the row). Shoot this
  one to open the doors.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat the 'Rocket' Smile in the Library?

A) It may be spoiling the fun, but the easiest way by far is just to use Mask
with his 5* charge super-shot. Dead in one! Otherwise, you need to make
sure you shoot out the rockets while hitting the Smile or it'll get tricky
  fast.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I open the safe in the Chairmans room?

A) From the tapes: First number 91007, second 15020.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I operate the computer terminal in the data room?

A) You need to be Garcian, as he needs to put his Look Ring in. You also need
the eye from the safe mentioned above.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) What are the answers to the questions on the terminal?

A) 1) PARKREINER
  2) 200485
  3) NEVADA
  4) 19421122
  5) O
  6) MICHAEL
  7) KATHARINE
  8) 19521122
  9) NODATA
 10) ELBOW

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I defeat the Chairman in the gymnasium?

A) First, operate the machinery by the side of the stage to open the curtains.
Now after the cutscenes, shoot the hanging Chairman on either sides of his
body repeatedly to make him swing. After a few shots, his trousers'll fall
off revealing a big red weakspot. Use Dan's collateral shot here (although
don't worry if you're all out of test-tubes, you can just shoot it normally
  but it takes ages).

Next, you need to shoot him with the golden gun. But none of the Smiths can
pick it up and the Black Smiles are killing you! Don't worry. One by one
the Smiths will perish, as none can hurt the Smiles. Eventually though it'll
cycle to Garcian, who can pick up the golden gun Matsuoka dropped. Shoot
the Smile and then the Chairman.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) How do I get to the top of the hotel?

A) This part is all on rails really, just follow along, examine all the blood
stains (where you found the Soul Shells here before, right?) and enjoy
the amazing storyline unfolding before you...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                        Target 06: Lion                       #06
                        ***************

Q) How do I kill the Smiles - I can't see them?

A) Well Garcian gave up his Look Ring right? So now you can't see them. You
can still make them out though, especially if you look up a bit so they
stand out on the horizon a bit more. Actually you can just run straight
through, you'll only get hit twice. Shooting them doesn't even give you
  blood anymore.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q) Does it matter if I kill Matsuoka or not?

A) No, but there's a different sequence at the end depending on what you
choose. Kill him and Battleship island is blown up, let him live and it's
  captured instead.

                        ============
                        BLOOD SYSTEM                          #2
                        ============

Shoot Smiles and you get awarded blood, much more so if you kill them by
hitting their weakspots. It comes in two types, thick (stored in a large bag
you can check on the pause menu) which is used to upgrade characters, and thin
(stored in test-tubes you can check on the pause menu) which is used to heal
characters, and use special abilities such as charged shots and invisibility.

The Bloodroom is accessible through Channel B on the TVs in Harman's Rooms.
Here you can convert thick blood (of which you can hold up to 1000dl at any one
time, shown on the pause menu) into upgrade points for character skills. Each
upgrade point costs 40dl of blood, and can be assigned to upgrade any of four
skills from level 0 to level 5 for Dan, Kaede, Kevin, Coyote, Con or Mask.
Harman, young Harman and Garcian cannot be upgraded.

The points required to upgrade from the previous level are:

Level 1:       1
Level 2:       2
Level 3:       4
Level 4:       10
Level 5:       26

Therefore to get one skill to level 5 costs 43 points, so to get all four for
a character up to level 5 costs 172 points. You can only hold 100 in the
Bloodroom before assigning them though. The skills you can upgrade are:

Power:      Increases the power of your shots,
Speed:      Increases the speed (running, reloading, firing) of the character,
Waver:      Increases the stability of your aiming (very important for Kaede),
Critical:   Increases the likelihood of critical weakspot shots,
Invisible:  (Kevin only): Increases the time you can stay invisible from about
15 seconds to about 40 seconds in 5 second increments,
Range:      (Mask only): Increases the effective range of Masks grenade
           launchers.

The Bloodroom on each level (or part-level) stops converting your saved up
blood into upgrading points after a set level, this is to stop you overpowering
the characters too early in the game. Although you can replay levels, once
you've maxed out a bloodroom it'll stay that way. The only exception is
Target 05 part 2 (in the school), where if you can be bothered you can collect
as much blood as you want until all characters are level 5 for everything.
You don't get anything for this though - I've tried!

Bloodroom limits:

     Level                            Limit
     -----                            -----

00 Angel                         1320   (33 upgrade points)

                        =========
                        ABILITIES
                        =========

ChargeShot
----------
Dan, Kevin, Coyote, Mask

This ability is granted to the above from the start. Press Y whilst aiming to
charge, 1* for Kevin and Coyote, 3* for Dan and 1 or 2 for Mask. Kevin's charge
can be upgraded via the ShineSparkling ability, and Mask's via the Target 04
boss fight upgrade. Dan's charge is known as the Collateral Shot.

Each charge requires one test-tube of blood to use, e.g. the Collateral Shot
requires three.

CounterAttack
-------------
Dan, Kaede, Kevin, Coyote, Con, Mask

Everyone can get this ability fairly quickly, and it's very useful. Once
obtained, when an enemy gets very close and is about to attack, press X when
the white flash shows on the screen to counter their move and destroy them.
It's not all good though - some enemies can't be countered, and it breaks
any weakspot-kill combo you've built up.

CriticalLockon
--------------
Dan, Kaede, Kevin, Coyote, Con, Mask

Although everyone can get this, it's not until later in the game as the skill
requirements are high (Kaede and Con need all 4s, the others all 5s). It's
also useless on a Normal playthrough as everyone effectively has this ability
as part of the settings. It enables the character to lock on to the weakspot
of an enemy by pressing L, and as you can imagine is vital on the harder
settings, especially Killer 8 when you can't even see the weakspots.

DeadlyBlow
----------
Coyote

This is one cool ability for Coyote only; when you hit enemy bodyparts it'll
usually say 'Deadly Blow' in the corner of the screen and the bodypart will
fall off straight away. Not amazingly useful, but cool nevertheless.

DoubleTap
---------
Dan, Kaede, Coyote

Tap fire twice to churn off two rapid shots. Particularly good for these guys
as they're quite slow firers.

DownAttack
----------
Dan, Kaede, Kevin, Coyote, Con, Mask

This is a watered down version of CounterAttack that is even easier to obtain.
When an enemy is 'downed' and crawls up to attack you,  press X when the white
flash shows on the screen to counter their move and destroy them.

EnemySlow
---------
Dan, Kevin

This is quite useful, as most hits on an enemy will result in them going into
slo-mo for a few seconds, which can give some well needed breathing space.

FootLockon
----------
Coyote

Another cool, but not very useful ability for Coyote. Pressing L whist aiming
will lock on to the legs of the enemy. Combined with DeadlyBlow, it means
you'll be knocking a lot of legs off - get that DownAttack ready!

HeadLockon
----------
Dan

This is a good ability for Dan, although it's superseded by CriticalLockon.
Pressing L whist aiming will lock on to the head of the enemy, particularly
useful against Smiles for whom this is always the weakspot, i.e. Phantom
Smiles, Laser Smiles, 'Minehead' Smiles.

ShineSparkling
--------------
Kevin

This is effectively a ChargeShot upgrade, just for Kevin, which gives him an
additional 3* charge special attack, which looks pretty neat. Obviously you
need at least three test-tubes of blood to use it.

TripleTap
---------
Dan

Tap fire three times to churn off three rapid shots. This takes away the pain
of Dan's slow firing but can take a while to get.

                        UNLOCKABLES                           #4
                        ===========

Killer 8
********

Beat the game on Normal or Hard to unlock an extra mode, 'Killer 8'. This also
changes the title screen to say 'Killer 8' in yellow (rather than 'Killer 7' in
red). You can now select Killer 7 or Killer 8 modes on the menu screen, but
Killer 8 only has one difficulty: very hard!

The '8' refers to young Harman Smith, an extra playable character selectable on
the pause menu or channel 9 on the TV screen. He wields an old style Tommy gun,
which has a large magazine and great rate of fire. He isn't upgradeable with
abilities though, and as CriticalLockon is vital in Killer 8 he's only useful
near the start. Great health is a plus.

Killer 8 is harder for several reasons;
Weakspots are no longer visible or automatically locked onto,
The number of test-tubes of blood you can have is limited to 8,
No hints on the map whatsoever (not even save rooms or soul shells)
Enemies cause more damage and take more hits (to non-weakspots),
More Duplicate Smile collateral shot weakpoints

Oh, and completing Killer 8 lets you see the final credits in Kanji instead of
English. Woo hoo.

Hopper 7
********

Beat Killer 8 to unlock an extra mode, 'Hopper 7'. This also changes the title
screen to say 'Hopper 7' in green. You can now select Hopper 7, Killer 7 or
Killer 8 modes on the menu screen, but Hopper 7 only has one difficulty: easy!

Hopper 7 only lasts for one level, Target 00, in which all of the normal smiles
(i.e. not Micros or Duplicates) are replaced by humans wearing big plastic
grasshoppers on their heads. Yes really. They die with one shot, in a shower
of green blood. I guess this is a nod to Grasshopper Manufacture who were
involved in the game's production.
