~~++~~ INTRODUCTION!!! ~~++~~ (INT)

Well guys, this is my Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life Animal Guide! This
pretty much is just all about the main part of the game, the Animals! This will
go into detail about how to take care of them well, and what kind of money you
get from them.

Now, you start with a normal cow. Further on in the game, you can buy (and just
get) more interesting animals!

Animals are a main part of the game, that you cannot really do much without
them. :) In fact, you can not do anything without them.

So this guide will help you with keeping them as happy as you possibly can!
(and how to get some of them in the first place!)

~~++~~ VERSION HISTORY ~~++~~ (VER)

Yeah I know, not exciting.

VERSION 1.0

First time uploading this.

VERSION 1.1

Messed up with contractions, hopefully fixed now.

~~++~~ LEGAL INFORMATION ~~++~~ (IFO)

Yeah, another boring but NECCESARRY thing.

Now, this may not be used anywhere except here on Gamefaqs. Unless I say
otherwise, because if you steal it and use it somewhere else, then that is
just, illegal.

If you wish to see it posted somewhere else, simply e-mail me at
[email protected] (BUT ONLY IF YOU_RE CONTACTING ABOUT THIS GUIDE)
Title it: -Harvest Moon: Animal Guide- and I might reply with an answer.

If you see this guide anywhere else that I have not said it is allowed to be
on, please contact me ASAP.

~~++~~ ANIMALS ~~++~~ (ANI)

Now we are talking!

The animals in Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life are one of the main aspects
of the game itself. They are the biggest money makes next to your crops, so if
you are stubborn and do not want them, then say bye bye to any money!

So in Harvest Moon, it takes a lot of love and good choices to keep your
animals happy.

Every barn animal and any animal that lives in the Chicken Coop needs to be
hugged and talked to every single day at least once*. While the barn animals
also need to be brushed once a day.

NOTE!!: All barn animals, and Chickens/roosters are ordered from the ledger. :)

NOTHER NOTE!!: There is a ton of squares of able to eat fodder waiting to be
cut out there in the field the animals stay in- but wait- you have to buy
FERDILIZER from Vesta first! Do not let buy a ton of animals, and have no food
to feed them! They will get mad, will not give you good milk/etc., get sick,
and eventually die. (Sadly, I know this from experience_)

Now let us just go into detail about all the animals, shall we?

*If you hug and talk to your animals TWICE a day instead of only ONCE, then you
will diffidently get more hearts which means better milk/eggs/etc.

~~++~~ COWS ~~++~~ (COW)

Cows are the main money makers in this game. You actually start out with a
normal cow, which can actually give you an astounding 8 bottles of milk a day!
Milk in the morning, then again at night for four bottles each.

Now cows start out by giving you regular grade A milk. They do not like the
heat of the summers, which means less milk, and more likely grade B milk. After
hugging and talking to your cow two times a day for a while, they really get to
love you, and give you grade S milk! You can get only four bottles of S milk,
but it is worth it in the long run!

Cows NEED to be hugged and talked to AT LEAST ONCE a day. You also need to
brush them once a day after buying the brush. Cows eat twice a day; whether it
is the fodder from your silo you cut from the grazing field outside, or if they
eat the field themselves, they eat twice a day.

Take your cows out on sunny days, and keep them in on rainy ones. Even if they
whine about being inside, it is better to have a slightly annoyed cow instead
of a sick one.

You can buy Miracle Potions to get your cow pregnant. If you do not own a bull,
then you have to spend $2500 for another farms bull to come over and help in
the process.
Although, if you have your own bull, it is completely free, so I advise buying
a bull before your cow needs to get pregnant.

A cow stays pregnant for 20 days after you get the cute little scene with the
bull and her. Since your cow stops giving milk about 40 days after giving
birth, I advise buying the Miracle Potion about 20 days after giving birth, so
she will still give milk while pregnant. :)

NOTE!!: I have not had one case where the cow does not succeed in getting
pregnant. But that is just me. So tell me if you tried the Miracle Potion, and
your cow did not get pregnant at all.

Another great thing about your cow giving birth, is that you get wonderful S
rated milk if you have been keeping up on your hugging and talking daily
routine.
And not only FOUR bottles like I said earlier, but and amazing FIVE.
Cha-ching!

WARNING!!: Hugging, or brushing a cow while sleeping will anger it, and make it
harder to get higher heart levels. You may talk to the cow while it sleeps, but
that does not do much.

WARNING!!: Cows CAN give grade C milk! All I know is that your starter cow can,
but they CAN. So treat your cow NICELY.

Cows are not easy to buy, but pay off in the end by giving you tons of money
with they are milk. Cows are NOT cheap, so make sure you REALLY want to buy
them!

Now here is the prices that all the different kinds of milk sell for:

\ NORMAL COW /\ GRADE C /\ GRADE B /\ GRADE A /\ GRADE S /
{            ||         ||         ||         ||         }
{   $3000    ||   $60   ||   $75   ||  $115   ||  $150   }
{            ||         ||         ||         ||         }
/ NORMAL COW \/ GRADE C \/ GRADE B \/ GRADE A \/ GRADE S \

\ BROWN COW /\ GRADE B /\ GRADE A /\ GRADE S /
{           ||         ||         ||         }
{   $5000   ||  $115   ||  $150   ||  $225   }
{           ||         ||         ||         }
/ BROWN COW \/ GRADE B \/ GRADE A \/ GRADE S \

\ MARBLE COW /\ GRADE B /\ GRADE A /\ GRADE S /
{            ||         ||         ||         }
{   $5000    ||  $115   ||  $150   ||  $225   }
{            ||         ||         ||         }
/ MARBLE COW \/ GRADE B \/ GRADE A \/ GRADE S \

\ STAR COW /\ GRADE B /\ GRADE A /\ GRADE S /
{          ||         ||         ||         }
{  $7000   ||  $270   ||  $405   ||  $540   }
{          ||         ||         ||         }
/ STAR COW \/ GRADE B \/ GRADE A \/ GRADE S \

TIP!!: Do not put the Grade A, or Grade S milk in any food processor, because
it will make it lower in money. Just keep it milk. :)

Regular Butter/Regular Cheese: $225
Good Butter/Good Cheese: $300

~~++~~ BULLS ~~++~~ (BUL)

Now, bulls literally do not really do much cept eat and sleep in this game.

They cost about $1000 less than cows, simply because even if they are pointless
for most of the time, they do have a POINT!

Bulls are simply bought to save you money in the future. When your cow stops
giving you milk (which is after about 40 days) you need to make her pregnant,
which means you need a bull.

Now, you can pay $2500 for another farms bull, (which is a waste of money in
the long run) so it is better to have your own bull which will only cost you
$3000 if you buy the Normal Bull. It will save you tons of money in the future.
So I highly advise that you buy a bull before your cow stops giving milk.

NOTE!!: For some unknown reason, this game allows you to try and milk your
bull. When you do try though, all you get is a moo with a green heart. What the
green heart means, is unknown, so do not go and ask me. Because I really do not
have any idea. *shrugs*

~~++~~ CALFS ~~++~~ (BAB)

Now, these are the little cute baby cows/bulls that you get from getting your
cow pregnant!

Calf stay away from all the other barn animals in they are own little shed like
thing outside. They do not go inside until they are fully grown which takes
about twenty days. (I am not sure about this info, correct me if I am wrong.)

Calfs have to drink mothers milk that comes from the mother cow for as long as
she supplies it. After a while however, she will stop, so you simply put fodder
in the feeder in the Calfs shed thing.

The Calf also needs to be hugged and talked to twice a day. You cannot brush it
while in the shed, but you still have to tend to its needs.

AUTHOR_S OPINION!!: If it is a baby COW, I would keep it. After a while it will
mature and you can get milk from her.
BUT, if it is a baby BULL, I would sell it as soon as possible. This, however,
makes your other barn animals sad for a slight amount of time. I personally
just do not want to have so many unneeded bulls running around my farm, but
that is me. Keep the baby if you want to.

~~++~~ SHEEP ~~++~~ (SHP)

Mean game creators. They do not allow you to buy girl sheep. Which means no
little baby lambs running around. DARN.

Now, these guys are also real good money makes if you keep them clean, and if
you have a bunch of them.

Now, Sheep do not make NEARLY as much money as cows do. But they are still real
good money makes if you take proper care of them!

Sheeps wool does not sell for much if it is just wool, or good wool. BUT, if
you clean them at least twice per season (per every 10 days) you can get the
wonderful, GOLDEN WOOL, which will be spoken of in price in the graph below.

Sheep need the same attention as any other barn animal. Hug and talk to them
once a day (twice gets them to love you more) and brush them once a day. Wash
them at least twice every ten days for better wool.

NOTE!!: You need some sort of clippers, wool shears etc. to get the wool, or
your sheep will just be a poof ball with perfectly good wool you cannot get.

\ SHEEP /\ WOOL /\ GOOD WOOL /\ GOLDEN WOOL /
{       ||      ||           ||             }
{ $1500 || $75  ||   $115    ||   $600!!    }
{       ||      ||           ||             }
/ SHEEP \/ WOOL \/ GOOD WOOL \/ GOLDEN WOOL \

NOTE!!: You can haggle Van for more money for the good wool, and the golden
wool. If you have multiple sheep, keep all the wool you collect until you can
sell it all (only the ones from one season). You can haggle Van to give you
more cash.
Take the regular price, and times it by 1.2. Such as:  $1200 x 1.2 = $1440. :)
(which is too Golden Wools FYI)

~~++~~ CHICKENS ~~++~~ (CHI)

Now, it is smart to buy a little chicken for $900 as soon as you can.

Although, chickens/roosters/chicken coop animals do not eat fodder! They eat
chicken feed that you can order in the ledger. Make sure to get some before (or
at the same time) you order your chickens!

Chickens do not pull in a great profit. Although, after about ten days, they
will start laying Fertilized Eggs. Which are worth $10 than regular eggs, but
also allow you to hatch little chicks!

Chickens need to be hugged and talked to once per day. (Twice makes them
happier!) The amount of hearts have to deal with how much love they get and how
long they have been in the coop.
Chickens with little to no hearts barely lay eggs at all, and if they do, They
are simple normal eggs.
Chickens with about half hearts now lay one egg per day, it could be normal, or
fertile. It does not depend on anything at this point.
While, Chickens with all ten hearts filled up may lay the perfect GOLDEN EGG
every so often! Golden eggs are worth TONS more than any other kind of egg.
(but no baby chicks from Golden eggs.)

NOTE!!: Take care, because the fertilized eggs can be hatched in the incubator,
but the regular eggs cannot be!

Also, chickens can wander around your farm anywhere. However, after having
enough chickens, (I think over four) talk to Tak, and he will bring up the idea
of a -chicken yard- for the chickens! You can buy the yard for $10,000 and it
will go by the fertile field where the small shack is.

\ CHICKENS /\ NORMAL EGG /\ FERTILIZED EGG /\ GOLDEN EGG /
{          ||            ||                ||            }
{   $900   ||    $40     ||      $50       ||    $300    }
{          ||            ||                ||            }
/ CHICKENS \/ NORMAL EGG \/ FERTILIZED EGG \/ GOLDEN EGG \

You can haggle Van for more money for the golden eggs much as with the Golden
Wool with Sheep! Try it, and he will raise the price ONLY ONCE though.

~~++~~ Roosters ~~++~~ (RST)

Now, roosters are pretty much POINTLESS in this game. ;P

But they still have their main role, which makes them an important asset in
this game, so yah need them.

Roosters fertilize any regular egg. (That does not mean bring the egg to them,
and it will be fertilized.) If you do not have a rooster, you simply do not get
fertilized eggs, which means no baby chicks.

Even if you need roosters, you actually only need 1 rooster.

AUTHOR_S OPINION!!: I sell any roosters. Chickens lay eggs, but you only need
ONE rooster to get fertile eggs. Having more roosters will only take up room,
and make you have to buy more bird feed. I advise selling them.

Roosters simply cost the same as Chickens: $900.

~~++~~ DUCKS ~~++~~ (DUK)

Now ducks are one of the weird animals in this game, because you do not BUY
them, but they COME to YOU.

You have to buy the pond before the Summer of Year 2. Also, wake up AFTER your
husband, some day in summer, and he will say that there is a couple of ducks in
the pond. He will then ask if you want to keep them.
Keep them if you want, but if you say NO, then that is IT. NO DUCKS FOR YOU.
You never get another chance, so it is take it or leave it now.

If you decide to keep them, ducks are the same as chickens. Hug and talk to
every day, once or twice a day.

Now, ducks do NOT lay eggs. WHAT?! No, they do not.
But, that does not mean you cannot get more ducks, it is simple:
You need:

2 Ducks, one female, and one male.
One chicken, and one rooster.

Then, you can have little baby CHICKS, and DUCKLINGS. Because apparently, the
ducks lay the eggs, and the chickens waddle over and sit on them or something
like that.

Either way, take the fertilized egg to the incubator, and when it hatches, you
have a 50/50 chance of a chicken or a duck, and a 50/50 chance of having a boy
or a girl duck/chicken. Not very complicated.

WARNING!!: You have to have LESS than SIX chickens to get the ducks. Anymore
than that, and the ducks WILL NOT come to your pond.

Ducks can graze anywhere on your farm, but I prefer to put them by the pond so
they can swim around.

~~++~~ HORSE ~~++~~ (HOR)

Ah, the horse. Now the horse is the ONLY animal in the entire game that will
NEVER die. No matter how cruel you are to the horse, it never dies at all, but
if you want to be a good happy farmer, then it is the same: hug and talk to it
everyday, once or twice a day. Also brush it, keep it clean, and feed it.

How to get the horse: Tak will just automaticely buy it for you. But the deal
is, you can have it as early as Summer 1st in year one, but only if you do this:

Send one item (such as milk/eggs) for Tak to see in the city.
Order something from the ledger (NOT, Miracle potion or Animal Medicine.) for
Tak to buy in the city.

Then you will get your horse around noon the next day. :)

NOTE!!: You can call the horse to any location you are by hitting R twice in a
row. It will have your character double whistle, calling the horse to your area.

~~++~~ THE GOAT ~~++~~ (GOA)

Yes, of course the goat. In the last Harvest Moon game (Harvest Moon: A
Wonderful Life) once you bought the goat, that was it. You HAD the goat.
In the last game, it was either keep the goat after it stopped giving milk, or
kill it off.

Luckily, in THIS game, you can SELL the goat! After it stops giving milk, you
can either keep it anyways, or sell it for more barn space.

Buying the goat for $4000 seems like way to much money for one animal so small
like a goat, right? RIGHT!
But you can haggle Van enough to get the price down close to only $2000! (I
only got to $2400, but I was lazy, see if you can go lower)

Normal as any other barn animal the goat needs to be hugged, talked to, and
brushed everyday once or twice a day.

Here is the selling prices:

Goat Milk: $155
Good Goat Milk: $300

Goat Butter: $115
Good Goat Butter: $150

Good Goat Cheese: $355
Good Goat Butter: $355

~~++~~ DOG ~~++~~ (DOG)

Now the dog is one of the most simple animals in the whole game to take care of.

Your dog does not need any real attention. Really, it does not. But, you can
put any food that your character can eat in its food bowl, thus rising its
affection for you.

That, and you can teach it tricks. :) The control stick, the A button, the Y
button, and the X button all do different tricks.

For the A, Y, and X button: Hold the button until your dog is finished with the
trick, and when your dog shows a heart.

For the Control Stick: Continue spinning it until the dog is done spinning
himself, and after he shows you a heart.

~~++~~ CAT ~++~~ (CAT)

Now, you can get the black cat from Ramona in Year 2 if you befriend her in
either Year 1, or sometime before the end of Year 2.

There will be this cute little cutscene with Ramona at your door holding a
black cat. Apparently, the cat showed up at her doorstep, and she cannot keep
it, but she also does not have the heart to leave it out in the cold.
So she asks if you want to keep it?

Answer yes or no, it does not matter. If you answer yes, she will ask what you
want to name the cat.
If you answer no, then she will leave, but she will continue to come back until
you say yes.

Simply say yes and take the cat. It is a fun addition to your animals, and it
does not even eat or do tricks unlike the dog does.

~~++~~ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ~~++~~ (FAQ)

Ok, this is the FAQ, and this is just where some of my own questions are put
(and I have got answers to them) and some I have seen and gotten from friends.
:)

Q: Hey, whenever I try and milk my bull, how come he gives me a green heart?
(As if he likes it?)

A: I do not know honestly. Since it is a heart either way, I take it. *shrugs*

Q: Same thing with the dog, I set it down, and it has a GREEN heart instead of
a red one. Does that mean it loves being set down more/less?

A: Another thing I am not sure about. Do not think that something is wrong with
your game or anything, be it is clear that the creators wanted to put a green
heart. Just take it, because it does not seem to lower its hearts for you.

Q: Is there a difference between the pointy-eared dog, and the long-eared one?

A: No. No difference at all besides their ears.

Q: My cow is not giving me a lot of milk/any milk anymore! And its now gone
down a grade, what is up?

A: If shes just slowing down on milk production, and it is gone from say a
Grade A milk to a Grade B milk, then it is probably summer time. If it is
summer, then she will go back to normal in Fall. Cows do not like the heat.
Also, if shes stopped giving milk at all (such as when you try to milk her, she
shakes her head, moos, and gets annoyed) then she is done. You have to get her
pregnant if you want her to give milk again.

Q: I STILL have not gotten the horse, and it is almost winter! What is up?!

A: It is simple. You have to send something (such as milk/eggs) in the shipping
bin, AND order something from the ledger (NOT Miracle Potion/Animal Medicine).
Your horse will be with you in by noon the next day.

Q: Do I have to feed my dog everyday?

A: No, of course not. Although, if you do, then it raises its affection for you
faster.

Q: Which buttons mean which tricks when you are training your dog?

A - Handshake
X _ Sit up
Y - Jump
Control Stick _ Spin Around

Q: I bought a cow, and she is here, but when I try and milk her, she just looks
at me with a question mark?

COPIED FROM E-MAIL:
Serena

A: The reason your cow that you bought is not giving milk is that you have to
get her pregnant then after she has given birth you can receive milk. The first
time I bought a cow I did not know you had to get her pregnant but after I did
I got milk from her.

Q: There is no more fodder in the silo! My animals are hungry, and I cannot cut
the grazing field like you said!

A: You have to FERTILIZE the field before you can CUT it! Buy some fertilizer
from Vesta before you even think about getting so many animals!

ALSO!!: If you have your own question that is not up here, e-mail me by using
my e-mail in the legal information! I will make sure to put it in here and
credit you!
