*******************************************************************************
Well, this is my second attempt at a decent FAQ. This guide was desgined to
help people gain the many connectivity bonuses between Harvest Moon: Friends of
Mineral Town for the GameBoy Advance and Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life for the
GameCube. Everything written down in here mostly comes from my own experiences
and hours of trying to get these two games linked perfectly.
From here on, Friends of Mineral Town shall be reffered to as FOMT and A
Wonderful Life reffered to as AWL. Also, More Friends of Mineral Town=MFOMT
and Another Wonderful Life=AnWL.
Also, the guide does contain SPOILERS for both games.
***IMPORTANT NOTE***
North America has finally recieved A Wonderful Life: Special Edition for the
PS2. Look in section 3.2 for info about how connectivity bonuses work.

2. LINKING
*******************************************************************************
-2.1 How to link---------------------------------------------------------------
IN AWL:
Try to go up the path that leads out of the valley beyond Vesta's farm. The
Harvest Sprites will stop you and ask if you want to link. Say yes until the
screen turns white.
In FOMT:
Visit the Harvest Goddess' pond (the pond near the Spring Mine, look at your
map if you don't know) and throw something in. Be careful about what you throw
in, because that will affect her relationship with you, so throw in a flower.
When she appears, say yes when she asks if you want to link to a GameCube. Her
second question has one of the game's many translation errors: though she asks
you if you want to STOP connecting, say yes anyway. If the GCN is ready, the
two games will link.
**IMPORTANT NOTE**
Once both games have been linked, the files are PERMANENTLY connected and you
must continue linking the same two files. If your Game Pak or Memory Card gets
corrupted, causing you to erase the linked file, you will lose all your stars.
I'm not sure if you will lose the other bonuses as well.
-2.2 Connectivity bonuses info-------------------------------------------------
The main thing earned by connecting are records that contain music from past
Harvest Moon games and a record player for FOMT. 8 of the 10 records are the
same in both games, however, AWL gets a seemingly orchestrated version while
FOMT gets a watered-down MIDI version.
Apart from records, your first time linking will net you AWL character
biographies in Mary's Library in FOMT. However, the bios will only have one
paragraph at the begining and if you link while still in Chapter 1 of AWL,
Grant's, Samantha's and Kate's bios will be missing until you link in Chapter
2. Talk to and befriend the villagers of AWL and link more to fill up these
bios. The bios can be found on the middle bookshelf on the second floor of
Mary's Library. That bookshelf is empty until your first link-up.
Another thing is getting new recipes in both games learned from AWL's Ruby.
However, she is extremely difficult to get.
Probably the biggest thing about linking is a brand-new house for you in FOMT:
The Seaside Cottage. As its name suggests, the cottage is placed at Mineral
Beach after collecting all 42 connectivity stars. Connectivity stars are earned
depending on the info gained during a link. If you haven't linked in a long
time and have progressed a lot in both games, you will net a lot stars, while
constantly linking will net you very little. FOMT has the 42 stars and gains
the cottage, but AWL only has 6 stars and do nothing. The Seaside Cottage
of FOMT should NOT be confused with the Vacation Villa, which is earned by
paying Gotz 100,000,000G and 999 pieces of lumber and the Mountain Cottage,
which is earned on your 50th anniversary with your wife.
-2.3 Glitches------------------------------------------------------------------
--2.3.1 The cheat--------------------------------------------------------------
There are rumors of a cheat that can be used to gain 42 FOMT stars easily. But,
by personal experience, this cheat only worked once for me, didn't work to its
said potential and never worked again. I'll list it here anyway.
WHat to do is, do the linking as normal. Once done, reset your GameCube.
Because of this, you might want to save your game beforehand. Once the GCN has
reset, load the file and link again. You should gain the exact numnber of
stars you did before resetting. However, the glitch may only work with a
certain star categories. (See section 2.4 for more detail.)
--2.3.2 Text oopsies-----------------------------------------------------------
In AWL, the Harvest Sprites will sometimes say Van will bring a new item, or
Ruby may teach you a new recipe after linking, even though you've bought all
the records/learned all the recipes. This is a small glitch and you can ignore
what they say.
-2.4 Star Categories-----------------------------------------------------------
After discussing a lot with user Zephyr_Leone, we seemed to have agreed that
that the connectivity stars are separated into 4 categories. It looks like
updating Mary's AWL bios do not earn stars. The star mentioned here affect
using AWL data to update FOMT's linking data.
SHIPPING
The biggest star earner is your shipping progress. In AWL, shipping means using
the bins in the food storage room, so Takaura gets you the money, NOT selling
to Van. However, this means you're limited to eggs, cow produce and (when you
get the crop shipping bin) 3rd generation hybrids. Since the only limit on
shipping is the length of the game, you can continually obtain stars in this
category.
PROGRESS
Another big star earner is simply progressing through the game. But not just
dawdling through. Hard work progress in both FOMT and AWL will be rewarded with
stars. You also may get freebie stars for changing chapters in AWL.
VAN
You get very little stars from gaining records in both games, but a few stars
nonetheless.
RUBY
Like Van, you can gain a few stars by learning Ruby's recipes.
-2.5 Van-----------------------------------------------------------------------
After all that rambling, we're almost ready to go deeper into the linking
experience. First, let me give you a little bit of background. Van is a travel-
ing merchant that appears in AWL on the 3rd and 8th of every season. At first,
he doesn't sell much, but by linking, you can make him sell the records. By
linking properly, he will appear in FOMT and sell records as well as the record
player. FOMT's merchant, Won, seems to have an accquaintance with Van.
**NOTE**
In FOMT, everyone has a birthday, whereas in AWL, no one does. Van however,
gains a birthday when linking. In FOMT, Van's birthday is Spring 19.
But, you can only give him a birthday present every 7 years (starting with Year
7) since it's only every seven years Spring 19 lands on a Wednesday.
--2.5.1 Van' bonuses-----------------------------------------------------------
Once Van is unlocked in FOMT, linking will update his merchandise in both games
In FOMT, Van's shop is located on the second floor of Doug's Inn every Wednes-
day. In AWL, he will set up shop from 12PM-6PM beside the Inner Inn on the 3rd
and 8th of every season, as well as random days in between. Here's a list of
Van's merchandise of FOMT as well as the prices for the records in AWL.
Remeber that all records are from past Harvest Moon games.
In FOMT, the records are identified by numbers. In AWL, the records are
identified by actual names and a special description
For the records in FOMT, the records go up in price by 100G each record. In
AWL, the prices are grouped according to game origin.

--2.5.2 How to gain Van's Bonuses----------------------------------------------
Van is relatively simple to earn for FOMT. The first thing you want to do is
befriend him in AWL. You'll know he's your friend if he turns his head to you
when you pass each other in movement. Once this is done, follow the steps below
1. In FOMT, make sure that your next Wednesday has no holidays or animal
festival registrations on it.
2. Link AWL and FOMT.
3. In FOMT, when that Wednesday rolls around, WALK OUT OF YOUR HOUSE first
thing in the morning. If you have the Teleport Stone and use it to leave the
house, you'll lose Van. During Van's introduction, you should notice that he
says his name is Van, yet his name box reads Lou. Another translation error.
4. Go to Doug's Inn and go up to the 2nd floor. talk to Van from across his
"counter" and purchase the Record Player and Record 1. The total bill will be
2,500G, so it's inexpensive at this point.
5. Once you've purchased the items, talk to Van DIRECTLY. Keep talking until he
mentions about going back to Forget-Me-Not Valley (AWL's location.)
6. Link the two games. In AWL, the Sprites should mention Van getting a new
item.
7. When Van appears in AWL, look through his merchandise with the L and R
buttons and purchase the record "Spring Song."
8. Now, without anything in your hands, talk to Van until he mentions going
back to Mineral Town (FOMT's location)
9. Link up again.
10. Repeat steps 4-10 until all records are obtained.
-2.6 Ruby----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ruby is the second AWL villager that will make weekly visits to Mineral Town.
However, instead of buying stuff from her, she will teach you recipes for you
to cook. Also unlike Van, the list of recipies differ from each game since each
game has a different cooking system.
As for background, Ruby is Tim's wife and together they run the Inner Inn. They
were both world travelers, but met and settled in Forget Valley. Ruby loves to
cook and her travels have taught her many recipes. In AWL, she can be found
in the Inn early in the morning and often goes to the "forest" in the afternoon
In FOMT, she can be found in one of the rooms on the second floor of Doug's Inn
every Sunday.
**NOTE**
Like Van, Ruby gains a birthday for FOMT during linking. Identical to Van's,
her birthday is Spring 19.
--2.6.1 Ruby's bonuses---------------------------------------------------------
Ruby teaches you 10 recipes in both games, yet each game gets different recipes
Thanks to GameFAQs user samurai goroh for indentifing the 10 FOMT recipes,
seeing I sort of had "cheated" my recipe list.

--2.6.2 How to get Ruby's bonuses----------------------------------------------
Ruby is quite hard, and seems random, but one fact is set in stone: be
extremely good friends with her in AWL. Another factor is that you might need
to cook 10 different recipes in AWL beforehand.
1. Once you think that you're good enough friends, link AWL and FOMT.
2. This time, wait until a free Sunday comes by and WALK OUT OF YOUR HOUSE
FIRST THING. If she's there, ignore what she says and go to the 2nd floor of
Doug's Inn. She will be there every Sunday, regardless if you've linked for a
new recipe or not.
3. In the room that Ann likes to hang out in, Ruby should be there. Talk to
her, and she should teach you a recipe.
4. Link back to AWL. The Sprites will mention that Ruby will teach you a new
recipe after the link.
5. In AWL, keep talking to Ruby until she teaches you a recipe.
6. Link back to FOMT
7. On a Sunday, talk to Ruby and she should teach you another recipe.
8. Repeat steps 4-8 until 10 recipes have been taught to you.
-2.7 Mary's Library Bonuses----------------------------------------------------
Like mentioned before, Mary's Library in FOMT gain character bios of the AWL
villagers. The only characters that DON'T get bios are your son and Tartan.
If you first link in AWL'S Chapter 1, Grant's, Samantha's and Kate's bios will
be listed as missing until a link during AWL's Chapter 2. Talk to and befriend
the villagers to fill up the bios. For now, here's the transcript of the bios
that I currently have.
--2.7.1 Biography transcript (FOMT)--------------------------------------------
Note that the names are really screwed up in FOMT.I'll make sure you know who's
who. ;) Whatever is typed here matches EXACTLY in the game, so don't bother me
with spelling and grammar mistakes. Profiles are taken from FOMT. If any
changes were made to the bios in MFOMT, I don't have them listed yet.

-2.8 Connectivity's feminine side (girl's version exclusives)------------------
Finally in July 2005, North America recieved the girl's versions of FOMT and
AWL. Along with other new things included, they also recieved exclusive linking
content, which means more work on my part. While this section is INCOMPLETE and
currently lacks the detail I want, here's a basic overview of what is exclusive
to MFOMT and AnWL.
--2.8.1 Van's new business (MFOMT)---------------------------------------------
While playing MFOMT, you'll randomly recieve an item called "Van's Favorite
Thing" in the mail. You can do two things with this item. The first is to sell
it to Won (after unlocking his "Sell to" ability) for 48,000G-57,000G. The 2nd
thing you can do with it is once Van begins to arrive in Mineral Town, you can
give it to him, and he'll randomly offer you one of six awsome items or, offer
nothing and ask if you want to buy back the item. Prevent this by saving before
you give him the bottle. The six items are: (all items cost 1 million G to buy
from Van)
FORMAT:
Name (WS:Won's offer to buy once "sell option" is unlocked)
Description
All about BGM (WS:480,000G-570,000G)
Put this in your Record Player to listen to the background music of MFOMT.
Unlike the other records, you can't put it in and listen to the selected song
while working on the farm. You'll only be able to listen to a track while the
song select is open.
All about Books (WS:50,000G)
Bring this book to Mary's Libary, hold it over your head and press A on the
left corner bookshelf on the first floor. The book has everything about the
Library?
All about Letters (WS:50,000G)
Like above, bring it to Mary's Library to read all the letters in the game w/o
recieving them first.
Riddle Book (WS:480,000G-570,000G)
Test your knowledge of MFOMT! You'll be asked all sorts of questions, ranging
from shipping prices to villager's birthdays. The questions can be hard, for
example, when you're asked the effects of a Poisonous Mushroom (FYI, that would

3. TIPS AND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
*******************************************************************************
-3.1 Tips----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some tips for connectivity:
-In AWL, grow a lot of third generation crops (crops you name) and ship them
off. This gets a decent amount of stars. But not constantly the same crop. Make
new crops with Tartan to keep it fresh.
-Befriend as many people as you can in AWL. FOMT gets the most of the bonuses,
so if your willing to take risks, do this to gain bio info. However, this is
tricky if you're really influcing your son in AWL to a certain career path, so
becareful!
-Progress through both games. Good, hard work in both AWL and FOMT is rewarded
with extra connectivity stars. The games also seem to give you a one or two
star bonus by completing a Chapter of AWL.
-Pay attention to your evaluation. What the AWL villagers say about your FOMT
farm might help decide what you should focus on in FOMT.
-Start connecting ASAP. The faster you befriend Van in FOMT, the faster he'll
start selling other records. If you have the Teleport Stone in FOMT and the
horse in AWL, and if you move quickly, you can get at the final 9 records in
one game day.
--3.2 Frequently asked questions-----------------------------------------------
This section will be used for the more common connectivity questions asked on
the GameFAQs message boards and to me directly. If you e-mail me about a
question answered here, I won't respond (espcially about that constant PS2
question) unless you really need a more detailed response.
Q: My game won't link!
A: Check section 2.1 while keeping the following in mind: You can't cross PAL
and NTSC versions of the game, nor can you cross boy and girl versions. Also,
the GCN-GBA link must be pluged into Controller Socket 2 of the GCN.
Q: Van won't sell me Record 2 (or any other record)!
A: When you first get Van, he'll have the Record Player and Record 1 for sale
right away in FOMT. Make sure you link back to AWL and buy Spring Song. After
that, it seems to take a while to get him to sell Record 2. Visit and bring him
gifts him in FOMT everytime he's in town. Basically, befriend him a little.
That should get him selling more.
Q: Can I get the two starting records from AWL into FOMT?
A: Breeze and Quiet Winter? Quiet Winter, yes, it's record 9. Breeze can't be
played in FOMT.
Q: My connectivity stars won't go up!
A: Check section 3.1. IF the Harvest Goddess in FOMT says nothing new, you
haven't done enough of the mentioned.
Q: Can I get records 11-15 through linking?
A: No. In FOMT, records 11-15 are prizes from the Vacation Villa's New Year's
Game and all they do is mute the music on your farm anyway.
Q: Do I have to keep the two games connected to gain bonuses?
A: No. After the linking is done, both games will be updated with info.
Q: Can the PS2 version of AWL link to FOMT?
A: Use common sense people. PlayStation 2 is Sony. GameBoy Advance is Nintendo.
Hell would freeze over before a some sort of connectivity would happen
between the two. Since I don't own a PS2 and don't plan to, all I know is
that the extra records are given to you from various villagers. Are all the
records obtained like that? I don't know. What about the extra recipes? Ruby
probably teaches you them at one point. What about the path leading out of
the valley? From what I heard, it acts as a "Quit Game" command. There is no
connectivity whatsoever. kthxbai
