Version 0.49: This is my first FAQ ever submitted to gameFAQS, so
please pardon the mistakes in style from this particular guide. The goal
of the FAQ is to eventually catalogue all combos inside of Def Jam
Vendetta and maybe later on, catalogue the effects of the BLAZIN' mode
on the characters. I call this version 0.49 because I believe the
original goal of this FAQ to be almost half done. That is, I found the
combos for each non-rapper, non-hero character, except for one for
Chukkles. Stay tuned for updates!

Version 1.0: Started dating these version updates! This is the Combo
FAQ Version 1.0, because EACH and EVERY Character Specific combo from
Def Jam Vendetta have been listed. Totally. If any readers would come
across any mistake in this combo FAQ, please submit them to my e-mail
address (posted at the bottom of the FAQ) for verification. Is this the
final version of this FAQ? It could be, because I decided to drop the
whole "find out what moves change into what and rate the BLAZIN's of
each character" aspect of the FAQ. You didn't really need to know all
that, now did ya?

Version 1.03: Small mini update to correct three combos. N.O.R.E.'s
GRIMEYVILLE BLITZ COMBO and his GRIMEY FIGHTIN' COMBO were incorrect. D-
Mob's MONEY AND POWER combo also needed a slight change (it's a bounce
from ropes running strike, not a simple running strike). Needless to
say, the Playstation U.S. magazine from which I took those combos from
did not fully do their homework... and I didn't fully double check my
works. That's it!

- The what and why of combos -

What are combos? -Combos are a string of regular moves that, when done
in the correct sequence, offers a momentum bonus in addition to more
points. By employing combos, you can build up your Blazin' meter faster
then usual.
Why won't my combo work? -The fact that you did the first step of the
combo does not guarantee that you can do the following step. For
instance, say your combo involves a soft grapple into a ground strike.
Suppose you execute your soft grapple on a fresh opponent: there is no
guarantee that your opponent will stay down long enough for you to
execute the second step of the combo. That is why these combos could
best be described as a string of moves that give a momentum boost,
rather then a true combo.
Do the moves change while they are part of a combo? -No. These combos
are a string of regular moves executed in a sequence. The moves executed
during the combo are not different from the same moves when executed
normally.
Do moves executed as a combo give a damage bonus? -No. They only give a
momentum bonus and extra points.
What is the difference between character specific combos and universal
combos: The universal combos can be employed by EVERYONE. Every
character of the game has these same combos. Character specific combos
are combos specific to your character and your character only. One type
of combo is not more rewarding then the other.
What's all this talk about Level 2 and Level 3 combos? -Here's where my
knowledge falters. Level 2 and level 3 combos are ONLY for the Hero
characters: Briggs, Proof, Spider and Tank. I am partially sure that you
obtain these combo by upping the stats of your characters. I am CERTAIN
that you obtain the level 2 combos by investing in one $250000 point in
the stat category. The level 3 combos elude me.

- Add the combos for all the hero characters and the rapper characters.
Since these combos have all appeared in the gameFAQS Def Jam Vendetta
message board and in a previous FAQ, I was in no rush in publishing
those character specific combos.
UPDATE: Done-roonie!
- Publishing the universal combos. These have practically become common
knowledge, but I'll need to print them later on.
UPDATE: Slacked off there, but there are other FAQs that offer those.
Maybe I'll print them if I get a few mistakes that I have to end up
correcting.
- Moves that end up changed once the character enters BLAZIN' mode.
Since the goal of all of these combos is to reach your BLAZIN' mode
faster, it behooves me to explain why it is important to reach this
mode. I am currently studying the BLAZIN' mode's influence on top rope
splashes and hardest strikes.
UPDATE: Nahhhhh... You don't really need those now, do you?
- In fact, I need to transform this FAQ from a combo FAQ to a
Combo/Blazin' mode FAQ altogether.
UPDATE: Yeah, what I said above.
- Maybe even analyse all the BLAZIN' moves for each character, and rate
them on deadliness and all around coolness. USING A STAR RATING! I AM
GENIUS!

- So what the hell is that guy saying? -

Okay, I practically use my own language here, so here are translations
for my more obtuse symbols. For any details or additional precisions,
just e-mail me at

Sq: Square button
X: X button
Ground Strike: Press Square over a downed opponent. For running ground
strikes, run using the circle button, then press square over your
opponent. This also applies if opponent is sitting or on all fours.
Head/leg submission: Press X towards a downed opponent's legs or head,
depending on case. This also applies if opponent is sitting or on all
fours.
Dir.: Means pressing a direction on the directional pad as you press the
butoon. Any direction will do.
Close/Far strike: Strikes executed up close or far away depending on the
case. These strikes are all weak strikes, executed by a button tap;
seeing how such distinction is not needed for hard and hardest strikes.
Top rope strike/splash: If it says top rope strike, you need to strike a
standing opponent with a top rope move (press O near turnbuckle while
pointing in turnbuckles direction). If it says top rope splash, you need
to hit a downed opponent with a top rope move.
Running strikes, bounce from ropes running strikes: Your running moves
change whether or not you bounced off the rope before executing your
strike. Pay attention that you hit your opponent with the correct
running strike. This does not apply to running ground strikes.
Inside springboard attack: Some characters have springboard attacks
(leaping off the ropes) when they run towards the ropes and press X near
them. Experiment with your character to see if he has inside springboard
attacks.
Rising Attack: When you are knocked down, hold the R1 button as you are
about to stand. Your character will get up in a defensive crouch.
Pressing the square button from that stance executes a rising attack.
Such attacks sometimes initiates combos...
Hard: Move that needs a button HELD.
Soft: Move that needs the button TAPPED.
UPDATE
Rope Grapples: You can maneuver your opponent if you have him in a
grapple. If your back is facing the ropes when you are grappling your
opponent, and if you press the directional button towards the ropes and
press X, you will execute a rope grapple.
Suicidas/Running suicidas: Suicidas are performed by attacking your
opponent who is outside of the ring from inside the ring. There are
standing suicidas (while your opponent is outside, stand near the ropes
and press the directional button towards the ropes, then press X) and
there are running suicidas (while your opponent is outside and you are
inside, run towards the ropes while holding X).
