1. INTRODUCTION/HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE
-------------------------------------

I first got the idea for this FAQ after I made a voteoff.
From intense studying, creating and deleting many towns,
and even time traveling through my experimental town, I
was able to see all 218 animal neighbors and was also
able to determine their personalities.

I have grouped the animal neighbors in 3 different ways:

1. SPECIES:
There are a total of 32 different kinds of species.
An animal's specie does not determine what they are
like personality-wise, nor will a certain specie
like you more than another; specie will determine
how a neighbor looks and what the town melody will
sound like when you speak to them. This list will
help you figure out what neighbors you want to live
in your town if you're trying to diversify various
species.

2. PERSONALITIES:
There are 6 different personalities, 3 of them male
and the other 3 being female. Personality varies
with each animal. Sometimes, an animal's specie will
be limited to one personality (all male wolves are
Grumps, for example). Several factors will help you
determine an animal's personality:

- Bedtime
- Wakeup time
- Response to you refusing to do them a favor
- Response to being pushed or hit with a net
- Name's BG color in message window (Blue = males, Pink = females)
- Painting of roof
- Painting of roof during rain

This way, you can prepare yourself for a possible
roof painting when talking to certain neighbors,
and also the times when they'll be awake. This
list will help you figure out what animals you are
most and least likely to get along with.

3. ALPHABETICAL ORDER:
All animals, regardless of specie and personality,
are listed from A(Ace) to Z(Zoe). This will help you
figure out easily the specie and personality of your
animal neighbor.

10. GETTING ALONG WITH ANIMALS:
-------------------------------

DO NOT walk around town with over 3,000 bells in your
wallet. If you chat to an animal, they may con you
either willfully or forcefully into buying their junk.
You can refuse, but some animals get angry if you say no.
Others don't even give you the opportunity to refuse!

DO NOT walk around with furniture, carpets, wallpaper,
fossils (ones the museum sent back after analyzing),
NES games, or gyroids. Some animals have been known to
dishonestly swipe the item when you talk to them, and
exchange it for a piece of junk. When it comes to fish
or bugs, you CAN refuse, but some animals become enraged
if you refuse to hand it over.
HALLOWEEN: Do not wear good clothes or walk around with
anything valuable in your pockets!

Animals give warning signs that they're getting tired of
talking to you. Sometimes, the warning message is not
given, since you spoke to the animal while they were in
another mood. If you keep talking to an animal after they
give you the warning message three times, they will lash
out at you, speaking in a high-pitched voice, and flat out
refusing to listen to a single word you want to say. To calm
them, you must walk very far from the acre the irritated animal
is in and stay in the new acre for a while. (This little
scenario is especially fun when you have an item that you need
to deliver to/receive from the irritated beast.)

Here is the list of warning messages. If an animal says one
of the following to you, BACK OFF!:

GRUMP:
- "Oh, You again. Does it make you happy, running around,
irritating people all day? Huh?!"

- "Don't pretend you're here because you like me.
You just want to see how ticked off you can make me!"

- "You again, huh? Don't you have anywhere else you
could be, (your name)?"

SNOB:
- "Oh, you just couldn't stay away from me?
You sure have a lot of free time, don't you?"

- "You again...Look, if you keep coming here,
I'll never have any time to get good dirt on anyone."

- "You sure come here a lot, don't you? I must be
even more charming than I'd thought, (phrase)!"

ATHLETE:
- "Don't you have anything else you could be doing?"
"I hate to break it to you, but some of us
have important things to do!"

- "Dude. Can't you take a hint? It's not like I'm your
only friend, is it? That's so pathetic, (phrase)!"

- "You sure come here a lot! You know, I'm starting to
think you've got a little too much time on your hands!"

VALLEY GIRL:
- "You again! You're worse than that cold I had that
just wouldn't go away, (phrase)!"

- "I can't have you coming over all the time, you know.
I don't want anyone to think we're friends or anything."

- "You again? What's the matter, don't you have any
other friends you can go bug!"

DOOFUS:
- "Maybe it doesn't look like it, but I've got stuff to do too,
you know..."

- "Look, it's great that you're here and everything,
but do you think you could maybe leave now?"

- "Can't you just leave me alone? I'm tired, and I don't want
to talk, (phrase)."

SWEETIE:
- "You spend so much time here. Don't you have anywhere
else you could go, (phrase)?"

- "You again? You have a lot of free time on your hands,
don't you?"

- "Unlike you, I really don't have enough free time
on my hands to stand around gabbing, (phrase)."

Try not to refuse favors. Some animals don't get upset if you
refuse their task, but others become furious if you refuse
theirs.

Do favors! Though they reward you for it, it makes their "life"
easier having less work to do, even if they do give away stuff.

Write letters!

11. WRITING LETTERS:
--------------------

Considering the AI is surprisingly dull-witted, writing letters
often results in an animal writing back, criticizing you for
your "weird letter" that makes them feel "not smart". In fact,
my first and second batch of letters got panned by my neighbors!
I eventually found out how to make a letter get a good response.
Here are tips that I use, and so far, it hasn't failed me yet!

- Use words they understand (names of furniture, fish, bugs, etc.)

- Limit a sentence's lengh to TWO lines. Any more, and they won't
get it.

- Fill up at least 5 lines. If it is 4 lines or less, they won't
get it.

- Mention one or more of these names:
Yours
Theirs
Current Neighbor
Town
Non-villager Animal (Tom Nook, Copper, etc.)
Visitor (Saharah, Wendell, Wisp, etc.)
In-Game Places (Dump, Post Office, etc.)

- Avoid mispellings, especially names of people, places, or things.

- Mail a shirt. While furniture does cost more, THEY WON'T USE IT!
While it may take a while for them to wear shirts you send, they
will eventually be wearing your shirt the next time you start your
game after mailing the letter with the gift.

- A blank letter is an instant "I didn't get your letter" response.

Here is a basic template that you may use:

(The animal will understand well, as it is the name of
an item.)

(The animal knows Wendell, and the ancient wall is an item)
Line four:---Here is a present for you.
(The present is also an item...)
Line five:---Please Write back soon!
(You don't HAVE to write anymore, but if you want, you can
make a sixth line of text.)
Line six: See you later, (animal name)!
(They are smart enough to know their own name.)

You can change lines; for example, you can replace Wendell
with another animal's name. You can also name a food or drink
item animals mention (like cookies, pizza rolls, chili dogs, etc.)
and they will understand it.
