[HOWT]
True Lies is a top-down shooter game in which the player-character,
Harry, must travel through six levels and fulfill certain objectives. On the
way, he must kill hundreds of enemy soldiers in order to accomplish his
missions, and as such will take damage. You must conserve health and find Health
Kits and Life-Ups where possible to stay ahead of the game.
The game also has multiple weapons, ranging from the basic pistol that
Harry starts with, to a rapidfire Uzi, to a Shotgun that kills all regular
enemies in a single hit, and a few more beside. Of all these, the pistol is the
only one with infinite ammunition, though after every fifteen bullets Harry must
take a second to reload it. Everything else requires ammo pick-ups and should be
used sparingly (to some extent. The game is fairly generous with ammunition).
After each level, however, you will lose all your weapons except for the pistol.
Of particular note is that Harry, along with most enemies in the game,
can face the diagonal directions, as well as fire in these directions. This can
be extremely important for sniping enemies off from the side.
There is also a very large gameplay flaw that the player can exploit to
stay relatively undamaged: most enemies have a limited range of sight and fire.
If you stand far enough away from them and fire at them, they will not fire back
at you. Some enemies will move around, and on later levels some enemies gain
farther range, but in the earlier levels it is particularly flagrant.
Controls
--------
A - Shoot with your weapon/throw grenades/lay mine
(hold) - Shoot your gun non-stop
Select - Switch between weapons
Start - Pause
D-Pad - Face/Walk in the direction you are headed
Up/Down + Right/Left - Face/Walk in a diagonal direction
Weapons
-------
Pistol - Harry's basic weapon. Infinite ammunition. After 15 shots, must be
reloaded with about 1 second reloading time. Kills most enemies with
3 shots.
Uzi - Rapidfire gun. Kills most enemies with 2 shots.
Shotgun - Powerful but slow gun, kills most enemies with 1 shot.
Grenades - Timed explosive device. Press A to throw the grenade slightly in
the direction Harry is facing and it will explode after a while.
Hold A for Harry to hold onto it until the A button is released.
Mine - Proximity mine. If an enemy walks over the mine it shall explode
instantly, killing the foe.
To get to a specific level, search [LEVx], where x is the number of the
level you want to go to in numerical format.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level One - The Chateau
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[LEV1]
Start the level by shooting at the gunman in here three times with your
pistol. Harry can run and gun at the same time (often referred to as strafing),
or he can stand still and shoot. Harry is also capable of shooting diagonally by
pressing two D-Pad buttons at once to face one of the four main diagonal
directions. Finally, he can shoot over tables.
As for shooting the gunman, try to hit him with one shot, then move away
as he fires back, then pick him off with another shot, repeat, and kill him with
a third shot. If you hold A your pistol will continue to automatically fire
until you release it, but the gunman will get a few shots back at you. While it
does fairly little damage, there are a LOT of enemies in the chateau, and it
does add up.
In any case, once you slay the lone assassin in here, head right to pick
up the Uzi gun, as well as Uzi ammo from right above. Head down. You should see
somebody dressed partly in black here - do NOT shoot him, as this is a civilian.
If you kill three civilians in True Lies, you will have to restart the current
level you are on.
Continue on west, and another gunman will appear from...somewhere, from
behind you. Turn around and pound him with another three-set of bullets (you can
also switch to your Uzi, if you wish, by pressing the Select button. It fires
far quicker than the regular Pistol. However, the Pistol has infinite ammo,
though it does need to be reloaded after you run out of ammunition, which takes
about a second).
Once you get out into the next room, you should spot another gunman. If
you stand against the wall to the east and shoot him from far away, he actually
will not respond to you, so do that (if he does shoot, then quickly get out of
the way, then go back down to shoot him in between bullets). Go up north, and
stand at the southeast corner of the piano to take down another standing gunman
who will not shoot you if you are far away enough.
Continue on west, taking out another gunman. Do not kill the waiter who
is walking around (yes, that is another civilian). Head down and grab some more
Uzi ammunition from the table and shoot the thug who will come up from below
(although he does not stand, if you move north fast enough, as he follows behind
at a slower pace, and then turn around and shoot him, the same principles of him
being unable to shoot back at you apply).
Here, you will have to take two paths, both which will culminate in the
same termination point. Proceed east from here, and make sure to pick off a
gunman coming from behind you. Take out another enemy standing on the right side
of the table, and then another one who will come from the right side.
Go south through the opening and left to pick off a couple more
soldiers. Grab some ammunition and head north into the niche for a First Aid
Kit. Go back to the eastern room and start going right. Slay another standing
guard in the hallway, and then a patrolling thug at the end of the hallway. Kill
the soldier on top of the stairs, grab some Uzi ammunition, and then go up to
the second floor.
Upstairs, you have got another civilian, so ignore him. Kill the gunman
to the right side, then head west and pick up a three-pack of grenades. Grenades
can be laid down, throw, or held onto and then laid down or thrown, with a 10-
second timer. Make sure not to be in the vicinity of the explosion as it will
spit out shrapnel.
In any case, head south from the grenades pick-up, and head south,
taking out a couple more goons. Grab some Uzi ammunition from the corner, then
head up the left path, taking out another foe. Go north into the hallway to take
on another thug, then head west. From the open room yet another gunman will come
at you, so have Harry take him out as well.
From here, you get another split in the paths. Take the western path,
eliminating several gun-toting enemies in the process, and head down the
staircase at the end. Down below, kill the single minion standing around down
here, then grab the Security Passcard off the ground. Head back up the stairs
and go around east until you get back to the three-way split again, and this
time continue on east along the upper path. Eliminate a goon and grab some Uzi
ammunition before heading up to the third floor.
Up top, head west and take out a goon, then go north and slay another
thug and grab yourself a shotgun (shells come separately). Head south and west,
taking out another foe, and grab yourself some shotgun shells. Continue west,
killing another lone gunman, then head down the staircase.
Downstairs, quickly move south and go left and shoot the gunman who's
moving up and down from his south side. Head right, eliminate another soldier,
and grab the Life-Up, which has an omega symbol on it. Head back upstairs and go
north, entering the locked door using the Security Passcard you should have
picked up earlier.
Slay the two enemies hovering around the piano in here. If you need to
get your Health levels back up, head west, picking off a few soldiers before you
can safely grab a Health Kit. Afterwards, head north from the piano in the large
chamber, killing another thug, then head east, taking out a couple more gunmen
in the process until you come to a split where you can go south.
Start walking south. Ignore the waiter in here and instead kill the
single guard walking around. Go up to the computer to connect the modem and get
your information. Head back up north afterwards and continue east, slaying a few
more soldiers in the process, and grab some shotgun shells from the corner next
to the plants. Head downstairs.
One floor down, move south immediately so you are not in a gunman's
range of sight. Go around and shoot him from the south, then head east. Take out
another soldier, then kill the gunner inside the small room to grab yourself a
first aid kit. Proceed south and east from here to take out a couple of enemies
again, then watch for one last foe standing on the staircase before you can head
downstairs.
Down yet another floor, you will have three gunman standing around,
blocking off several safe spots. Switch to your shotgun to take them out - a
single shot will put them away, which is better than trying to kill them with
three bullets and risking taking damage in the process.
Once they are finished, head south down the next stairwell to finish the
level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level Two - The Slopes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[LEV2]
Level Two has a lot of split paths to follow, so I will not bother with
writing out an actual walkthrough for this level.
Anyways, the objective of this level is to go from the top of the level,
where the chateau is, down the slopes of the mountain to the bottom, where Gib
will be waiting for you in a truck. However, there are three main obstacles in
your way: skiiers, mines, and gunmen.
Now, while running down the slopes, skiiers will often pop up from the
north end and come skiing down, trying to shoot at Harry. Normally, most of them
will be unable to get off more than a single shot at you, before a skiier trips
over and 'dies'. Trying to turn around and kill them is often rather difficult,
One of the methods I like to use is to go down the slope slowly. When a skiier
appears, quickly run left or right and then move up, so the skiier is below you.
He will then hit a wall or trip somewhere and disappear.
The second problem is the mines that will be practically littered all
over the slopes. They will be flashing, so you can identify them when walking
down. BE CAREFUL, because if you walk over one it will explode and take a good
third of Harry's life off. There are a couple of spots on the slope where there
are several mines concentrated closely together, so watch out for those spots
when you get to them and navigate your way around carefully.
The final problem is dealing with the guards that will be standing or
sitting at intermittent spots around the state. Fortunately, you should be able
to see them ahead of time easily. While some of them will be up in your face and
you may have to take hits from them, several of them are far enough away that
you can shoot them from afar and not get sniped back at.
While running down, you should also spot plenty of power-ups. Ammunition
and some Uzis and Shotguns if you have not picked them up, but also several
health-kits. If you see the Cross icon of the health kit, make sure to take a
detour and grab it to restore your health.
Once you finally make it down to the end of the level, touch the truck
to end this segment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level Three - The Mall
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[LEV3]
Unfortunately, you will lose all your weapons and grenades aside from
your pistol, so you will have to rearm yourself in this level.
Head north from the start to grab a three-pack of grenades. Go south and
shoot a goon across the table while avoiding killing the civilian, then head
east. Pop into the northern storefront to grab some Uzi ammunition (you do not
have an Uzi yet), then head back out, slaying another terrorist. Proceed east,
eliminating another goon in the process.
Proceed north from the potted plant near the wandering civilian into
another storefront. Grab the Uzi and immediately leave, as the two terrorists in
here are not guarding anything else useful. Head south out of the store and then
east again, slaying another enemy soldier. From where he was, go north to grab
some Uzi ammunition, then head east again.
Take out a couple of soldiers standing around near the two escalators.
If you are running low on health, grab a health kit to the right side of the up
escalator. If you only have taken a couple of bars of damage, you may wish to
consider holding off until later to use it.
Head up the escalator going up, and take out a gunman standing at the
top. Continue right and north and slay another soldier. Now, take your Grenades
out, and go down and left a bit. Throw a grenade at the soldier here. He will
throw grenades back at you in return, and they can HURT if you get caught in the
vicinity of the blast. Run around him for a while to keep him in one spot until
he gets damaged by the blast, then go left and quickly run up the up escalator.
On the third floor, proceed past the civilian and shoot the gunner
standing in the northwest corner. Loop around to the northeast corner and slay
another soldier. Head south to get the Uzi gun finally, which should be a
considerable help.
Switch to the Uzi, then head down the down elevator. Head southwest,
slaying a gunman standing in that general direction. Continue on west, but tread
slowly when you see two gunmen standing close together next to some fountains.
Both of these guys will throw grenades at you. Wait for them to throw grenades,
then quickly move around past them and run away to the west, not bothering to
take them out.
Head up into the storefront, slaying the guard at the back, and then
exit out the western end. Take out another terrorist in the southwest corner,
and head north. Exterminate a couple more foes next to the escalators, and take
the right of the two escalators to grab a health kit.
Continue on up and then go east, slaying another soldier. Head into the
small chamber to get into the second section of the mall.
Starting from the second mall segment, go north and kill a lone gunman
to grab yourself three grenades. Start heading south, and pick off another
terrorist. South some more, pick off a grenade-thrower in the southwest alcove
to grab yourself several Shotgun shells. Head right and south into the narrow
storefront to obtain some Mines.
Head right in the storefront and then out the front entrance, slaying
another terrorist if you did not before to give yourself some breathing room.
Take the escalator up to the second floor, and shoot the thug to the right side.
Loop around to the left side of the left elevator to grab a health kit, then go
up the RIGHT escalator.
At the top of the escalator, kill the goon, then grab yourself a Shotgun
and some shotgun shells. Go up an escalator again. Quickly kill the goon next to
the escalator, go north, slay another guard, and then head up onto the third
mall segment.
For the third part of the mall, grab the shotgun shells and kill the
soldier standing nearby. Head west, eliminating another goon, and head into the
southwest storefront. Wipe out the opposition in here to gain yourself a Life-
Up.
Head north into the northwest storefront to obtain some shotgun shells
after taking out three soldiers in here. Head east and kill some more enemies,
grabbing a health kit in the process. Exit out from the east side, and head
directly south and left into a bit, killing some more soldiers, into an area
with two potted plants and some Uzi ammunition and shotgun shells. Finish off
the soldier guarding the exit here and go into the next area.
This is not the way to the boss, but it is still highly useful. Take out
a three-pack of enemies on the way to a small chamber that has Uzi ammunition,
an Uzi, more grenades, a Life-Up and a health kit. Once you have grabbed
everything, return to the other end of the long hallway to return back to the
main part of the mall.
From where we left off, head north and east. Go between the two
fountains and quickly run around to dodge a grenade blast. Eliminate the
grenade-thrower and claim some shotgun shells as your reward. Head north and
east again from here, taking out another thug, then go south until you hit some
escalators, killing yet another guard in the process.
Take the down escalator, and go into the west storefront, wiping out
some foes on the way, to claim a helpful health kit. Continue east from the
escalators, and take out a series of goons while heading north. Enter the
chamber at the end.
You will now be in a quasi-boss fight against a big thug who will take a
lot of hits. There is a VERY easy way to take him out, but let me first explain
this guy.
This boss will run around the room in what is roughly an hourglass
fashion, with set points where he will stop at. Every time he stops, he will
spray out gunfire in the four cardinal directions and the four diagonal
directions for a few seconds before he stops and runs to the next point again.
Now, the key here is that in True Lies, bullets do not go through walls,
at all. The room you are currently fighting in is a bathroom, with stalls all
over the place, and there are walls protecting each of these stalls. Go left and
north from the start of the boss fight into the far left set of stalls: of the
two stalls here, take the right one.
Watch for a while if you have to to get the pattern down, but
eventually, the boss will come down to settle just east of you, right above
another wall. When he does this, his gunfire going west will be a large distance
above the wall he is next to, and his southwest gunfire will hit the wall he is
next to. When he is at this spot, you can rush out from behind the stall, spray
him with several bullets, and still stay well out of range.
Once he moves, quickly rush behind the stall again. Even when he comes
around to where you are again, do not fret: as long as you stay in the right-
most of the two stalls, you shall NEVER take damage. Once he goes through his
patrol pattern again and ends up east right of where Harry is, head out and
shoot him again. Repeat until he finally dies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level Four - The Park
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[LEV4]
Start by walking left a very slight amount, then head north into the
center of the park, taking out an enemy to your left and right side. Head into
the passage at the northern end, killing another soldier. Grab some shotgun
shells for a shotgun you will be picking up shortly, then head west some more.
Go into the northwestern corner of this area. You cannot see it very well on the
ground, but there is a gate key sitting around, so walk around until you get the
message stating you have the key.
Go back to the square using the path you came in here through (to avoid
a couple of unnecessary fights), then go to the northeast corner and kill
another terrorist. Before you break open the gate, head south from here, slaying
one last soldier, and grab a health kit.
Now that you are fully healed up, continue north and open the gate. Take
out a pair of enemy gunners heading north and east, then proceed south. Walk
slowly, as you will encounter the first flamethrower user of this level. The
flamethrower knocks off damage extremely quickly, but flamethrower users do have
a pair of weaknesses: first, they only stay in one spot, and second, the range
of the flame is limited. Stand a good distance away from him diagonally and
shoot him with the pistol to slay him without taking damage.
Go east and up to kill another gunman, and claim a Shotgun. Head south
and take the left path, slaying another flamethrower from afar to grab a Life-
Up, then proceed down the right side, killing another soldier in the process.
Once you get out into the open again, go to the far right side, and
snipe another flamethrower with some distance between you to get three more
grenades and a Health Kit. Go west from here, and press against the far western
wall in the open square while going south. By pressing against the wall you will
avoid getting ambushed by a soldier from the southwest and northeast (keep your
Shotgun handy just in case you screw up and get ambushed anyways).
From the southwest corner, continue on west, and slay another gunner
from afar to grab some more shotgun shells. Proceed west some more, killing
another shooter and then a flamethrower further west. Continue on south to take
out a subsequent flamethrower and patrolling guard and into an open area again.
Follow the stone path up to its highest part (the 'crest' of the wave,
if you will), and take out the two gunners standing around. Go north and
eliminate another guard, and take the Gate Key lying on the ground behind him.
Continue east behind a bench to get some shotgun shells. From here, go south to
the southeastern corner, taking out a couple more thugs, to grab another ten
shotgun shells.
Now follow the tiled path going east. Take the southern path here and
only the southern path (the other two only lead to guards with dead ends and no
items), killing a single thug, and opening the door with the gate key. Head west
from here and slay a single goon for a health kit, then go east and down,
running and gunning through some more opposition.
Obtain some more shotgun shells and then proceed as far west as you can
until you get yourself an Uzi (no ammunition yet). Double back a bit east and go
north. Now, this may be a bit obnoxious to get through, as at first try you will
not be able to fit through any of the narrow passageways with the two rocks and
fountain blocking Harry. To get through go to the left wall and left rock and
sneak in, then press up, left, and right over and over again. Harry will not go
through directly but slowly, bit by bit, he will sort of 'shrug' his way
through.
Stay out of the guard's range, and switch to a grenade. Throw it
northwest so that it is close to the guard and kills him when it goes off. Head
west after here, eliminating another opponent on your way west, and grabbing
some Uzi ammunition in the process.
In the center square, stand on a tile on the east side, then face south,
shooting your pistol or Uzi or shotgun to kill a flamethrower in the southeast
corner. Head south, then slay another flamethrower to the west side before
walking along the path going left, making sure to dodge a grenade-thrower from
the cliff above. Once you can go left no further, and have gotten some shotgun
shells, head up north, taking out another gunner quickly.
Proceed further north, eliminating yet one more foe while doing so, then
east, wiping out another couple of foes. Take the east path to kill another
gunner for some Uzi ammunition, then head north. Continue on north slaying
another soldier and a grenade-thrower until you get to a fenced area.
Ignore the fence for now and head west and south, slaying another guard
to get at a health-kit. Go back up and take the west side for some shotgun
shells, and kill a flamethrower from behind the fance. Go north and west slaying
another grenade-thrower and grab some Uzi ammunition.
Head south and around for a Life-Up, then go up the eastern passageway,
taking another grenade-thrower out while doing so. Head west, ending the life of
yet ANOTHER explosives expert, then take some shotgun shells before heading
south. Continue west and north, eliminating a couple of regular patrolling
gunmen.
Proceed east, exterminating a pair of flamethrower enemies and a
grenade-thrower, then a regular shooter. March north and then west, taking out a
few more foes in the process, and take the tiled path north at the first
opportunity. Gather your wits about you before you head out the top because it
is boss time.
This is another example of what looks like a difficult boss that can be
defeated easily. You will be facing Aziz this time apparently (the manual does
not really say), so I will be referring to the boss as Aziz.
Anyways, Aziz will constantly run in a circle around the fountain in the
middle of the battle arena. Every time he is close enough to Harry's location,
he will shoot at you. If you touch Aziz, it will also cause a very significant
amount of damage, if not killing you outright. To add insult to injury, at each
of the four corners of the battlefield, there is a goon shooting at Harry
whenever you come within shooting distance.
However, Aziz can be laid low fairly easily. At the start of the battle,
quickly rush into the lower-left or lower-right corner, aim your gun at the thug
standing there, and take him out immediately. Turn around and face toward the
center of the arena, and slowly edge close enough: as soon as Aziz starts firing
at you, back away just enough so he will not fire you. Aim diagonally towards
the center, and start firing your shotgun and Uzi whenever you think he will
come around in a circle again (or throw grenades).
And it is simply as that. Aziz will take damage while you shall not. If
he does not fall before you run out of ammunition for all your better weapons,
switch to your pistol. After some time, he will disappear, so walk around until
you get a text message, and head onto the next level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level Five - The Docks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[LEV5]
Head east slightly from your starting point, and go south to pick up a
shotgun. Continue on right, taking out a guard from afar, to grab some shotgun
ammunition.
Now, take a look at the circular object with an X mark in it. This is a
mine, so to set it off you need to shoot it (from afar, of course). While you do
not need to shoot any mines aside from a select few to clear a path, I suggest
you destroy them whenever possible for two reasons: first, so that you do not
get caught in an explosion from enemy gunfire, and two, to mark where you have
been to already.
Anyways, continue north just slightly, and go east across the dock,
taking out a gunner standing around. Sneak down the southeast passageway, and
shoot another guard who is patrolling north and south, grabbing some Shotgun
shells in the process. Loop around clockwise, eliminating a few more terrorists
while doing so, until you come to a flashing box.
There are eight of these crates littered around the level, and you have
to destroy all eight of them. Stand a good distance away as they will explode
when damaged, and start firing at it. It shall take several bullets to destroy,
so you may as well switch to your pistol. Once it is destroyed, a message should
pop up saying you have seven (7) crates left to destroy.
Head back west off the docks and onto land again. Head west into the
maze of crates and pipes and snipe off a gunman, then head beyond the area he
was guarding. Kill a patrolling guard, then head east at the split. Take out
another gunner guarding a crate, then destroy the crate to have six (6) left.
Take the eastern bridge for a health kit, then head back to the split
and go up the west side. Grab the shotgun shells from up north, and then head
west to slay a flamethrower. Take some more shells from a niche in the south
stack of crates here, then destroy the two mines laying around to continue west.
Continue on west and south from the split, and kill a couple more
assassins down south to obtain some more shotgun shells and destroy a third
crate, leaving you with five (5) left.
Equip your shotgun before heading back up to the last split. Now, this
next soldier-type here is truly formidable and dangerous - a rocket launcher
type, whose attack shall take off more than half Harry's life if it hits. The
rocket-launcher goon has a crucial weakness that you can exploit, however: he
cannot move and can only fire in the eight directions. Couple with their huge
sizes, and there is a significant blind spot where you can fire at him but a
rocket will sail past you. Wait for him to fire a rocket out, time his attacks,
then shoot him right after a rocket passes you by to avoid taking damage from
him.
Once he is down, head north, and take out two more rocket-launcher thugs
with a shotgun for a one-hit kill. Head south when the opportunity presents
itself to slay another villain, and shoot a fourth crate from across the wooden
box to destroy it, leaving four (4) crates to go.
Continue north from here. Eliminate the rocket-launcher to the left side
for some Uzi ammunition. Take a path up the middle and destroy a mine for a
much-helpful health kit, then walk east along the south wall to slay another
rocket-launcher.
Head north from here, watching out for yet another rocket-launcher type.
If you approach from his southeast, then the rocket he should send out will end
up hitting the wall right next to him, killing himself. Head up north slightly,
killing the goon to the northeast before he can present troubles to you later
on, then switch to the Shotgun if you have not already to quickly finish off
another thug coming in from the north to your west side.
Walk along the linear path west until you slay another gunner. Head
south from here, shooting a regular minion to grab yourself an Uzi. Take the
northern path now to wipe out a couple of (relatively) harmless flamethrower
enemies, and then destroy crate number five to leve you with three (3) crates
left.
Take the eastern path from here and take your shotgun out. You will be
ambushed by somebody that looks like a rocket launcher guy, but is really more
of a machine gun guy, who can take bars of health off of Harry relatively
quickly. Use the Shotgun to instant-kill him, and immediately head south.
Set off a line of mines, and take out another gunner down below. Proceed
to walk east and up, and prepare to face yet another gunman north of a pair of
mines, followed up by another shortly therefater as you continue north. Once you
head out east into an open area, eliminate a third opponent.
Head east and south from here. Take out your Uzi or Shotgun. If you have
three or more bars of health left run kamikaze through the passageway to slay a
foe, then grab a health kit down in a small alleyway to your right side.
Continue down the west side, slaying a couple more foes, then head south.
In the next open area, head east, quickly slaying another foe. Continue
south and break some mines open and kill a rocket-launcher enemy for a health
kit. Go back up and make your way east again, and take out a foe that will try
to ambush you once you step into the open area. Grab some Uzi ammunition next to
the wooden crate before heading south for more Uzi ammunition, and take out the
rocket launcher minion from across your wooden barrier.
Now take the northern path, and kill another gunner who will be rushing
towards you as you approach the docks. Make your way onto the docks north and
then west. Edge north very slowly until you see the edge of a crate. Do not go
any further or else you will get hit by rockets. Break the crate which shall
leave you with two (2) crates left. Go down, east, up and east from here, then
south while slaying another gunner.
Down below, grab a health kit from the left side, then kill a gunman on
the right side. Once you get into the open space again, watch out for a grenade
-thrower standing around to your right. Walk left into a tiny space for some Uzi
ammunition, then head to the far right end touching the dock, and walk down to
find another crate. Destroy it, leaving you with one (1) crate to go.
Continue west from here to kill a flamethrower, then head south and
shoot a grenade-thrower. Watch out for another flamethrower as you continue
along, then squeeze through the narrow passageway. Take another gunner out in
the process, then head east to kill one last minion before destroying the last
crate, finishing off the penultimate level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Level Six - The Office
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[LEV6]
Sneak left slowly at the start, and shoot down two flamethrowers at
diagonal angles. Take the lower side of the office afterwards to grab some
grenades. Walk left slowly and turn around to intercept a thug intent on
ambushing you. Kill a flamethrower in the southwestern corner and go down the
entrance here.
Inside, slay a couple of gunners and a flamethrower before grabbing
yourself an Uzi gun and some matching ammunition, and head back to the entrance
to this small office area. Head north along the left wall and kill a rocket
launcher near the top to obtain some Uzi ammunition, then proceed west and south
across the diamond-patterned floor, killing a few more gunners.
Grab a health kit behind the one potted plant, then proceed north and
slay a grenade-throwing terrorist. Continue north to take out another goon. Walk
west slowly, and turn around to stop an attack from behind, then eliminate the
grenade-throwing thug. Use one of your grenades and toss it close to the
flamethrower hiding behind the wall barrier to take him out, then take some more
Uzi ammunition as a reward before heading south.
If you are in need of a health kit again, head east and kill two
soldiers to grab one in the north. Otherwise, head direct south, kill a grenade
minion, then go west. Take the first entrance north to kill a flamethrower for
some shotgun shells, then head back out, slaying another guard and then one more
after that going west. Watch out for somebody ambushing Harry from behind, then
slay the last guard in front of the stairs before going up a floor.
Up in the second segment of the office, go north and shoot down the
first gun-toting guard. Head up and press yourself against the western wall to
eliminate the next soldier while staying out of his range. Head right to grab
some shotgun shells followed by a shotgun. Watch out for a rocket-launcher thug
as you double back along the hallway, then head south.
Go south as far as you can, taking out an ambusher from the east, and
kill a rocket-launcher to grab yourself a health kit. Head back up and go east
while pressing along the southern wall, slaying another rocket-launcher
henchman. Take the linear path east and watch out for two ambushers from either
side once a north option opens up.
Continue on east past the dividing wall and kill a gunman to obtain some
Uzi ammunition. Head back to before the wall partition and continue on north and
east, killing more foes in the process. Watch out for a soldier that will rush
at you, as he will also throw grenades at you. Also be sure not to rush over a
mine laid near the north wall.
When heading south, take the fenced off area to your left to kill a
couple of minions and obtain a health kit at the end. Leave the fence area. Scan
around the rest of the area and you should see there is a north path, a center-
east path and a south-east path. Take the south-east path and kill a few foes on
the way, including an ambush (the other two pathways have far more enemies and
only grant a Life-Up and a single magazine of Uzi ammunition with a dead end).
Once you can go no further east, head straight north, grabbing some Uzi
ammunition as well, and shooting your way to the exit from the second segment.
Start off the Office's third segment by going north and killing a
gunner. Head west slightly for another gunner to rush in from above. Go around
the fence for a health kit if required, then continue on west, watching out for
an ambush from behind on the way. You should encounter another grenade-thrower:
once he is dead, proceed north to get some more shotgun shells before killing
another soldier.
Continue on east, slaying yet some more foes, before grabbing some Uzi
ammunition at the end and intercepting an ambush. Head north to the corner and
then west, taking out a couple of gun-wielding guards, before killing a
flamethrower to the south. Head past where the flamethrower-wielder was before
coming to a health kit, then go west from there to obtain a Life-Up.
Proceed north from here for a sort of boss fight.
Here, you have the last nuclear device that has been armed. Harry has to
destroy it (but there is no time limit). The nuclear device is split up into
three sections - the front, the rear, and the middle. The front and the rear
will flash black when hit to signify that they have been damaged, but the middle
will be invulnerable until the front and back side are destroyed.
Meanwhile, during all this time, the middle will intermittently fire out
bullets at Harry. The good part here is that the bullets only come one at a time
instead of in a bullet spray, so you can duck and weave around them. The front
and back are also fairly easy to destroy if you stand diagonally far away from
them and then shoot at them - the defense mechanism seems to respond far less
often as a result.
My personal recommendation is to switch to the Uzi as opposed to using
the Shotgun; this is because the Uzi gives you rapidfire, and you can destroy
the three segments much quicker than if you rely on the Shotgun or the pistol.
If you need to switch weapons, step south of the fence and the nuke will stop
firing on you until you return.
After you destroy the middle section, STAY AWAY. It will explode, but
the explosion animation will go on for a fairly long time, so wait until it ends
to avoid taking unnecessary damage. Once it is done, head around and go up the
stairs to the top of the tower.
Outside and on the top of the office tower, head north slowly. When you
see a pack of Uzi ammunition tucked away in a small niche, advance slowly,
firing a few bullets to kill an enemy behind the crates. Grab the ammunition,
then head east, killing another solder that has taken refuge behind crates and
obtaining some more ammunition.
Continue south and loop around counterclockwise and north to get some
Uzi ammunition and more shotgun shells. Switch to your Uzi, and head north to
face the final boss.
Now, the boss guy here, who I will assume is Azi, is standing on the
wing of the plane. You cannot actually go onto the plane yourself, so do not
bother. Azi will be constantly lobbing grenades at Harry, which can hurt like
hell, taking half your life off with each successful hit.
The best weapon here is the Uzi, which you can just fire. When you hit
Azi, he will slowly inch to the right on the wing, until he falls off the side,
ending the battle. Unfortunately, there is no real 'safe spot' to hide yourself
from in this battle, so it will simply be a game of weaving and ducking.
Alternatively, if you have at least three full lives still (or if you are using
the infinite lives code), you can just go straight up to him and pound away at
him until he falls off: three lives is more than enough time to knock him off
with the temporary invulnerability Harry has after every time he runs out of
health.
After you knock Aziz off, congratulations, you have finally successfully
completed True Lies.

Other than that, considering this FAQ is for an obscure old game, if you
have any other obscure old games that you do not play anymore, consider sending
them to me (I will even pay the shipping cost!). I write FAQs for plenty of
obscure old games with no FAQs, and having a physical copy of the game (and even
better, a manual) is superior to not. You can email me if interested at
