[HELP]

Tiny Toon Adventures: Montana's Movie Madness is a Game Boy platformer
game with the Tiny Toon license. In the game, Montana shows movies displaying
him as the good guy and Buster Bunny as the bad guy. You have to go through five
different worlds, either hopping onto, kicking or just ignoring enemies
altogether, ultimately facing a boss at the end of each world.

Although the first world is fairly easy to clear, the second world gets
more difficult, and it is the author's belief most people playing on a real Game
Boy would have given up halfway through the third level, thanks to a forced
scrolling segment almost as difficult as BattleToad's legendary motorcycle
gauntlet.

--------
CONTROLS
--------
Up - Enter Doors, decrease jump length of Super Leaps

Down - Tap Buster's foot (to start a Dash)

Left/Right - Walk, Dash

B - Kick

A - Jump, Super Leap

Start - Pause/Unpause the Game

-------
KICKING
-------
Kicking in this game only defeats some enemies automatically. Others
will be temporarily stunned or have other effects occur to them. A few of the
enemies, such as the Roderick Rats, can be Kicked multiple times before they
will eventually go down, but other foes stay alive permanently no matter how
many times you strike them.

A stunned foe will eventually recover. Even if it is an enemy you
normally can eliminate by simply hopping on, if you are standing on a stunned
enemy who recovers, you shall take damage.

-------
DASHING
-------
By pressing the Down button, Buster will start to tap his foot. When he
does this, pressing either the Left or Right button will cause him to Dash in
that direction. Even after leaping, Buster will continue to Dash. He shall only
stop when you forcibly stop him by pressing any of the other 3 D-Pad buttons, or
crash into a wall or enemy.

-----------
SUPER LEAPS
-----------
When jumping while Dashing, you receive a significant height boost.
However, if you cancel Dashing on landing by pressing one of the other 3 D-Pad
buttons, you will slide a little bit.

----------------
BONUS MINI-GAMES
----------------
At the end of the first three worlds, you will be given an optional
mini-game. If you win, you shall receive an extra Life. You can also play these
three mini-games by pressing and holding A and B when loading the game up before
the Konami logo appears, then pressing Start.

---------
GOGO DODO
---------
Throughout the game, your dog will appear at various spots in the
levels. If you locate him and touch him, you get to play a basic spin-the-wheel
game of sorts. A cursor will highlight one of 12 panels and spin around.
Whenever you press the A button, the cursor will go another 7 panels before
stopping, so if you time it right you know ahead of time what effect you will
get.

If you land on Dizzy Devil in the 4 corners, you will lose 5 carrots.

Landing on Concord Condor to the right of the northwest corner gives you
100 extra points.

Landing on Babs Bunny to the left of the northeast corner gives you an
extra Heart (up to 4).

Landing on Furrball to the south of the northeast corner gives you an
extra 10 Carrots.

Landing on Hampton north of the southeast corner gives you all your
lives back (up to 2).

Landing on Fifi to the left of the southeast corner gives you 100 extra
points.

Landing on Shirley the Loon to the right of the southwest corner gives
you temporary invulnerability to damage (Buster Bunny will be flashing while
this effect goes on).

Landing on Little Sneezer to the north of the southwest corner gives you
an extra 10 Carrots.

Landing on Plucky Duck south of the northwest corner gives you all your
lives back (up to 2).

---------
HARD MODE
---------
By pressing A and Start at the title screen, you get a Hard Mode
function. In Hard Mode, Buster Bunny is reduced to 2 Hearts instead of 3, and
all of Max's boss forms takes 6 hits to defeat instead of 3. You also get a
different ending.

1-1
---
Proceed right at the start to grab the Carrot (x2), then continue and
jump to hop onto the first foe's head, obtaining a Carrot left behind. Head on,
eliminate another enemy, grab a carrot from next to the barrels. Progress some
more, eliminating a third enemy on another building and grab a third Carrot out
of the background.

1-2
---
Take out the first enemy you see as you go right. Ignore the platform
and instead hop over the cacti, grabbing another Carrot. You can Super Leap to
grab the other two, but you need to be aware where the cacti are to avoid taking
damage by landing on one. Continue and touch the dog to play a Gogo Dodo mini-
game. When you come to the next enemy, move back a little bit until he wastes
his projectile before taking him out. Continue right and grab another Carrot
before moving again to the next screen.

1-3
---
Defeat the first baddie moving back and forth while hopping over the
gaps. You will come across a vulture next - you can kick it if you want without
having to get close to it.

Take the lower path from the vulture for 2 Carrots, then go up and
continue progressing through the level. Take the upper platforms while walking
as if you go down, you will have large, near-impassable gaps to cross over. even
with Super Leaps Continue amassing carrots as you move along and enter the
doorway at the end to progress.

1-4
---
Drop down the level. As soon as you make your first turn left, boulders
will start dropping and rolling down the corridors. At the left and right ends
of each corridor you can stand and jump to land on a boulder as it comes along
to avoid damage.

Quickly rush left and right and fall down to avoid getting hit by
boulders. Make sure to hop over the gap near the bottom of the level, then enter
the doorway to the next section.

1-5
---
Take the lower of the two paths at the start, hopping onto a couple of
bats as they swoop down at you, and retrieve two Carrots at the end. Return back
left and then take the top path going right.

Head along a little bit, making sure to avoid dropping down a gap when
you start moving down the platforms. Past an enemy, use the bat to jump up onto
a high platform. Turn left and try to jump just at the edge of the platform so
you can touch the dog and play another Gogo Dodo game.

From where you are dropped off following the mini-game, head right a
single platform. Wait until the enemy loses its projectile before leaping
forward and knocking it out, then continue and exit into the next area.

1-6
---
Walk right from where you start and avoid a barrel projectile from your
first foe on the second carriage. Once you get past him, take out a vulture on
the third carriage, and progress, taking out a few more minions.

You should eventually see a few Carrots lying below you next to some
torn curtains. Head right a little bit to drop down and double back for 2
Carrots, then continue onwards, eliminating one last barrel-toting enemy before
getting out of this section.

Boss Battle: Cowboy Max
-----------------------
In the first boss battle of the game, Max is dressed up as a cowboy. He
will first appear near the top of the screen, and throw his cowboy hat right
across the screen. After a short period of time, the cowboy hat will fly back
left on the lower side of the screen, and Buster needs to jump over (or onto)
the cowyboy hat to avoid taking damage from it.

Shortly thereafter, Max will rush right on the lower half of the screen.
Jump onto him to damage him, and he will retreat and go up to the start to do
the whole sequence over again of throwing his hat out.

At all times, you need to stay on stable footing, or else you shall take
damage if you come in contact with a spike.

In between stages, you will be given the chance to play a mini-game for
a free Continue. In the baseketball game, move left and right constantly while
waiting for your Power bar to fill up and hit A or B when it is completely full,
before it has reset, to make a dunk shot. If you get 3 goals in less than 30
seconds, you will receive a Continue.

2-1
---
Run forward and hop onto the first enemy before jumping over to
eliminate a pair of frogs, coupled with another regular enemy. Move on, taking
out three more frogs. Take one very insane, precise long jump, followed up by a
final Roderick Rat before ending this area.

2-2
---
Hop onto the rooftop. As you move right, dodge the first lamp that drops
from above by doubling back as soon as it starts to fall, just shortly before
the first Roderick Rat. You can tell when a lamp is going to fall because when
all the other lamps very temporarily turn dark, falling lamps will stay light.

Follow up the first Rat with a second Rat, third and fourth Rat,
avoiding some more lamps in the meantime. Rats that have a fan will throw it out
and the fan will move back and forth once even after the Rat has been defeated.
When you get to the fifth and final Rat, bounce off the top-left corner of its
head and bounce back left to avoid the first lamp.

When going right, be sure to move fast as you will be bombarded by
falling lamps before finally hitting the stage exit. Press down and hold right
to make your Dash move.

2-3
---
Enter the first door. Inside, take out the first two Roderick Rats, one
normal, one Kabuki, then quickly Dash across the next set of floor tiles which
will disappear under Buster's feet as he runs along them.

On the opposite end, take out another Kabuki Roderick Rat, then proceed
through the first of two doorways.

Inside, continue and quickly jump right over the disappearing tiles.
Leap onto the first fire-breathing statue. Wait for the fire from the second
statue to go by you before quickly Dashing and Jumping to make a Super Leap onto
the top of the next statue.

From there, jump off to the left for a Gogo Dodo game. After, head back
on top of the second statue, and do a Super Leap off to the right, eliminating
another Roderick Rat on landing.

Drop down the small platforms slowly, falling off to the right as there
is a gap to the left. Do a Super Leap onto the statue and then continue right
and on up from there. Stand on top of the disappearing floor tile. When it
vanishes, quickly angle yourself to the right after you hop off the first lamp,
then jump to the lamp to your right after striking the second lamp.

Upon landing on solid flooring, proceed onwards.

2-4
---
Head right and down the steps, and watch the tide of water. If it moves
up and touches Buster, you will automatically lose a life. If it gets up too
high, retreat and wait for it to recede before proceeding.

Take out a Roderick Rat on the next section of platforms, grab a Carrot,
and go down, right and up again. Eliminate another Kabuki Roderick Rat and grab
another Carrot, and repeat going through the underbelly of the ship.

This time around, stop just shy of the Carrot down below, and start
Dashing. Make your Super Leap as soon as you can. If you take too long, you will
slide too far off the small platforms to your right and fall down into the tide
as it is coming back up. If you pull it off correctly, you should be able to
stop on one of the higher steps and quickly get up to the top platform.

2-5
---
Move right until you come to stand on top of a disappearing tile, and
quickly press right against the wall so when you get to a third vanishing floor
tile, you do not die by accident. Dash across more disappearing tiles and stop
once you hit a solid tile, then climb up the multiple footholds.

Jump to your left from up top to locate the dog to play a Gogo Dodo
mini-game. Once complete, head back right and eliminate a Kabuki Roderick Rat.
Take the first disappearing tile down and quickly jump your way right, grabbing
multiple Carrots on the way, and defeat a Roderick Rat when you hit safe ground.

Dash across the disappearing tile until you hit the end of the level.

2-6
---
Start hopping up right and left across the various platforms, some
disappearing, some not, to get up in the level. After a short bit, you will see
lamps coming around with helicopter blades on them. The lamps will drop down
shortly after coming near Buster - if you can time it right, you can jump on top
of a lamp and use it as a jump boost. Otherwise, wait it out until the lamps
drop and then continue on.

Once you get up to the rooftops, start using Super Leaps to slowly make
your way up, defeating one last Roderick Rat in the area. Up top, enter the
doorway.

2-7
---
Make your way up right and then left across several more disappearing
platforms and a few stable ones. When you are on a stable platform on the left
side, you will need to hop as far right onto the vanishing platform as you can,
then quickly bounce off onto a moving lamp and use that as a bounce-off spot to
another stable platform.

From there, Super Leap up a couple more times, using another moving
lamp, and Super Leap across several rooftops. Once you see flashing lights
displaying the word 'MAX' you will know you are getting close. Continue up using
the outcrop of roof to either your left or right and then jump to the door in
the centre.

Boss Battle: Kabuki Max
-----------------------
When battling Kabuki Max, you have three narrow pillars which Buster can
stand on, and on which Kabuki Max can land, who is riding a giant frog. When
Kabuki Max is coming down to earth, time your jump so you can land on the head
of his frog just as soon as he lands. Once he takes damage, he does not cause
contact damage to Buster, so you can stay on the pillar where he just landed.
Upon taking damage, he will turn around and jump to the adjacent pillar, so you
can focus on hopping over and damaging him once more.

If you take too long to damage Max, he will start firing out fans. If
you are two platforms away from him, it is easier to dodge, but if you are only
one platform away, it is more difficult. Shortly thereafter, his frog will
stretch out its tongue - you can hop on the outstretched tongue and run along it
to bounce off of Max at the end.

Your next mini-game is Tug of War. When Arnold is pulling, press the
Down button to prevent him from moving you more than a few inches. When he tires
out and starts panting and sweating, hold the Left button and repeatedly tap A
and B to increase your Power button and pull him. Immediately press Down again
once he regains his energy, and repeat until one or the other of you falls in or
time runs out. If you win, you get a free Continue.

[LEV3]

3-1
---
Move forward and take out the first two Roderick Rats of the Robot
variety, then allow a platform to cart you over to the other side of a gap.
Eliminate another Robot Roderick Rat.

Hop over a couple of pillars and another Rat, then use several hovering
platforms that will start going up once you land on them to continue advancing
foward. At the next platform which goes right instead of up, grab a Carrot out
of the air, defeat one final Rat, then continue off-screen.

3-2
---
Proceed right and wait out the Robot Roderick Rats on hoverjets, doing a
jump-kick on them once they are at the low point of their up-and-down movements.
Once you get past the initial batch of Rats, you should easily spot the Gogo
Dodo mini-game dog, so contact it to play.

Once the mini-game is finished, continue right, eliminating another
contintent of Robot Rats 'til you get to the next area.

3-3
---
In this area, hop onto the hovercraft, and after a few seconds Buster
will automatically start going right. Press the A button to jump once you come
across gaps or else you will crash and lose a life. A good technique is to move
forward and, when you see a gap coming up, move back to give yourself time to
jump.

After a couple of ramps which Buster automatically jumps off from, you
will get a tricky set of quick, consecutive jumps. Use the earlier suggestion of
moving back as soon as you land to give yourself a little extra time for another
jump. Shortly thereafter, you will hit a few walls, which Buster automatically
destroys with a carrot shot.

Following another few ramps, Buster will bust down some more walls,
wrapping up this level.

3-4
---
This is a continuation of the last level with more hovercraft driving.
There are no 'tricks' per se, so you will simply need to react fast to when you
need to pull off regular jumps. There are a couple of split paths, and taking
the top path will net you more carrots in both cases.

Near the end of the level, when you get a long stretch of straight
floor, immediately move left. When you see a ramp coming up, move right and
press right and jump with the A button once you get to the ramp to leap up high
and make it to a high wall. Jump a couple of more times to break through a few
walls, then stay still and drive on autopilot, and you will end this level.

3-5
---
Walk right and drop right off the wall to land on a hovering pod that
will go left. Rush off it to land onto the next hovering pod before the first
one malfunctions. Repeat moving from one platform to the next while avoiding
touching the running voltage (if you do get shocked, however, you will only lose
one heart, and not a life).

There will be a couple of very tricky platforms to move over too, two of
them occurring in a row: instead of jumping, use the Dash technique to make it
over to the next platform. After those two, you will have one easy jump, and
then you will want to make a quick jump from the last platform before it goes
far down and drops you on running voltage. When you land on safe ground, head
right and to the next area.

3-6
---
Go right to start and onto a hovering pod that will slowly lower. Move
onto a conveyor belt and go right. Kick the Robot Roderick Rat to stun it, then
hop onto its head and do a Super Leap up to the left to find a Gogo Dodo. Once
you do the mini-game, jump up and to the right and dash along the long platform,
grabbing a few Carrots along the way.

At the end, take a hover pod down and go right. Jump onto the robot with
the detached head to be able to leap up high onto a platform. Hop across the top
ledges, grabbing several Carrots in the meantime, then take the hoverpod down
and drop yourself off.

Continuing on, kick the electrified computer before it can shock Buster,
and eliminate a few more normal Robots before hitting the end of the area.

3-7
---
Move past multiple iron presses by either Dashing by them or walking
past as soon as they move back up into the ceiling. Repeat this several times,
defeating enemies in between, until you come to one of the computers with
running voltage. Kick it to temporarily de-electrify it, then hop onto a
hoverpod to the upper right with a Super Leap. Move left from there to find the
dog for another spin of the wheel.

Continue on right after past two more iron presses to get to the boss of
this world.

Boss Battle: Cyber Max
----------------------
At the start of the battle, Cyber Max's lower body, torso and head will
be separate, and the three body parts will slowly combine. Once Cyber Max's head
comes onto the rest of his robot suit, quickly jump and land on his head to
damage him.

Once Cyber Max takes damage, his head will detach. Quickly run to the
right or left side. His torso and lower body suit will fly left and right
towards the walls before retracting towards the centre, and then move to the
walls again a second time at a slower rate (the torso goes to the left the first
time, then the right the second time. Vice versa for the lower body). After, the
frame comes back together again, and you can jump onto Cyber Max again.

If you do not immediately damage Cyber Max, he will start to dash at
you. Be prepared to jump as soon as his body is completely formed, and maneuver
to land on top of him whereever he will be at your moment of impact.

After you defeat Cyber Max, your mini-game this time around will be a
game of Soccer. Your Tiny Toon friend will drop a ball from one floor up above
to Buster. As Buster, you must kick the ball up twice in the air to move it
along, following it right, and then kick it a third time to send it into the
net. All the time, however, your friend is constantly dropping more soccer
balls, so you have to be able to juggle keeping the current ball in the air and
going right while moving back left and striking the new ball into the air.

It is possible to get 15 Goals in 40 seconds, but it requires some luck
and very good reflexes and time management. If you succeed, you will get a free
continue.

                             Level Four - Monster
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[LEV4]

4-1
---
Dash right, eliminating the first Mummy Roderick Rat that you come upon.
When trying to jump from the next section over water, you will be swarmed by a
three-pack of Vampire Bats. You can kick one in mid-air or wait for it to swoop
in before hopping on top of it. Continue on, eliminating another Rat and
bypassing or eliminatnig another trio of Vampire Bats before moving to the next
area.

4-2
---
Proceed right, eliminating a single Mummy Roderick Rat, then hop over a
statue of Max and a few pillars, followed up by a trio of Vampire Bats. At the
highest pillar, you will encounter the first Ghost in this world. They can be
defeated like any other enemy, with a kick or jumping on them.

Continue right and slowly scaling down, defeating more Vampire Bats and
Roderick Rats. From there, continue over more pillars and ledges and statues
while fending off the same three types of monsters, until you get into the
haunted mansion proper.

4-3
---
Head right down the long hallway and past the picture of your four Tiny
Toon friends. Eventually, you will come to a series of four doors.

There are three 'wrong' doors, which are randomly generated. If you go
through one of these three incorrect doors, you will have to go down a short
corridor filled with living candles. To defeat the candles, you can jump onto
the platform which each is on while it is moving right, and kick it to
extinguish its flame, or jump and kick its flame in mid-air right before landing
on the candle flame. Once you exit, you will be dropped back at the beginning of
the level. The doors do not re-randomise, so the door you went through should
now be stayed away from.

The correct hallway shall have a white background. As you go right, hop
over the first urn, and you will see that the urns sent you floating up high as
far as the streams of air they let out go. Continue right a few pots, taking out
enemies. By the time you get to the third urn, however, start jumping off to the
right quickly: if you go to high, you will come into contact with the flames of
a chandelier, burning Buster and causing damage to him.

Eventually, when you need to make a Super Leap or hop off Vampire Bats
to reach one urn, go up high and drop off to the right to find the Gogo Dodo
mini-game dog. Head right and drop down from another urn, then eliminate one
last candle walking around before getting into the next area.

4-4
---
Go right to finish up a small part of this level. In the next area, you
should hear a terrifying sound: the sound of rising water. Very quickly jump up
right and left across the platforms until you get to the top, and exit out
right. You may wish to use Super Leap to high jump some platforms, although it
is not strictly required.

Repeat going across a very short corridor, and you will come into
another area you need to vertically scale. The platforms here are more widely-
spaced apart, and so you will need to Super Leap across most (but not all) of
them. Once you hit the very top, you are safe, and do not need to rush right as
the tide will recede from there.

4-5
---
Continue right across all of Max's portraits, and you shall come to 4
doors. This scenario is just like 4-3, where three of the doors are incorrect
doors that lead to black hallways with candles walking around, and one is a
'correct' door.

The correct door, much like before, has a white background. Inside, make
your way along the long corridor past multiple urns and Roderick Rats, and the
occasional Vampire Bats, moving candles and ghosts before exiting out at the
end.

Boss Battle: Franken Max
------------------------
Franken Max has a large height advantage over Buster, so you cannot do a
regular jump onto his head without taking damage. To do so, you need to do a
Super Leap at him, and for that to occur, you again need room to hit him without
taking damage in return.

When Franken Max jumps and lands on the ground, it will cause spikes to
come out of the floor for a few seconds. The good news is that if you stay at
either end of the room, Franken Max will never just walk right into you - he
will instead jump at you. You can take the opportunity to quickly Dash out from
underneath him, then jump just before he lands. By the time you land from your
Super Leap, the spikes caused by his impact will have receded, and you can turn
around, and Dash and Super Leap at him to cause damage by bopping him on the
head.

Unlike previous movie worlds, you do not have any mini-game to play
after clearing the Monster world.

5-1
---
Dash right through the level, encountering a couple of regular Roderick
Rats and Cameraman Roderick Rats. Bop or just clear each of them in turn, making
sure to stay out of the way of any barrel projectiles, and eliminate the lone
vulture that may show up before you hit the end of the level.

5-2
---
Dash across the rooftop houses, making jumps to clear the gaps between
roofs, hopping over Kabuki and Cameraman Roderick Rats, and defeating a couple
of frogs on the way.

5-3
---
Continue to progress straight through the level. Like before, you will
get world-specific enemies such as Robot Roderick Rats, hovering Robot Roderick
Rats that you can eliminate with a kick, normal robots, and another Cameraman
Roderick Rat before ending this area.

5-4
---
This area is a little bit more confined than the previous three, so
watch out for platforms and safe spots to land as you eliminate Ghosts, Mummy
Roderick Rats, and Vampire Bats. On the way, you will find the last iteration of
the Gogo Dodo dog in the game, so you may want to touch him in order to heal up
if possible. Finish off with a Cameraman Roderick Rat.

Boss Battle: Montana Max
------------------------
Max will show up in a director's chair that is held up high in the sky.
Stick to the ground while hopping over the movie reels without bouncing off them
to avoid sending yourself into Max's electric beam attack. Make your way to the
platform at the bottom of his chair and kick the lever to send him down to
earth. Hop on his head once he sends out a retractable spring-loaded fist.
Bounce off either the fist or the reels to strike him.

When Max goes up again, he will throw out several movie cassettes at
you. Avoid them as he only throws at a limited range, then he will start his
charged beam again and the whole process will repeat itself. Damage him enough
times until he falls to conclude the game.

HARD MODE
---------
By pressing A and Start at the title screen, you get a Hard Mode
function. In Hard Mode, Buster Bunny is reduced to 2 Hearts instead of 3, and
all of Max's boss forms takes 6 hits to defeat instead of 3. You also get a
different ending.

BONUS MINI-GAMES
----------------
You can play the bonus three mini-games from the regular game
(Basketball, Tug of War and Soccer) by pressing and holding A and B when loading
the game up before the Konami logo appears, then pressing Start.

link below. You do not have to buy anything right away, but (if you do not clear
browser cookies often) any items you buy within the next 90 days will count as a
'referral order' to me, meaning I get anywhere from 4-6% as a referral/affiliate
payment of what you ordered (ie. order $100 worth of stuff, I get $4-6 from
Amazon.com)

Other than that, considering this FAQ is for an obscure old game, if you
have any other obscure old games that you do not play anymore, consider sending
them to me (I will even pay the shipping cost!). I write FAQs for plenty of
obscure old games with no FAQs, and having a physical copy of the game (and even
better, a manual) is superior to not. You can email me if interested at

Although I believe I have found everything there is to find in this
game, there is occasionally the possibility of some super secret level in an
obscure game that was never found because it was too obscure, or the like. If
you have anything that you feel needs to be includes, feel free to email me at
