EPISODE IV, A NEW HOPE

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a
hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil
Galactic Empire.

During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to
the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star, an armored space
station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.

Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home
aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save
her people and restore freedom to the galaxy...

0) UPDATES
==========

VERSION 1.33a, Final Version (September, 1999)
Finally, a newer version. This FAQ's updates are only that some
things were corrected, but the biggest changes are that I've
splitted the section "Secrets, codes and F.A.Q.s" in two
sections: "Secrets and codes" and "Common Questions".

VERSION 1.3 (July, 1999)
Made little modifications to the "Missions" section and changed
a big mistake in section five. Also changed style and text in
the "Controls" section. This is the final version of the FAQ,
but if later it needs updating - I doubt that - it will be
updated.

VERSION 1.25 (June, 1999)
Deleted some text, modified the "Characters" section and added
some Frequently Asked Questions. Also modified the "Missions"
section with totally new text in some missions. Also removed the
"Tips" section.

VERSION 1.0 (June, 1999)
First version of this FAQ, with 9 sections.

3) CAST OF CHARACTERS
=====================

3.1) YOUR ALLIES - REBEL ALLIANCE
=================================

* Luke Skywalker: He is the default character. You start with him
 at the very first level. He's the weakest, but use him more
 than the others, 'cause he has more lives.
* Han Solo: He is the strongest character of the three. He uses
 a stronger blaster, but he can't build up extra lives, so use
 him when you need fire power.
* Princess Leia: She is the other character that you can use.
 She, like Han, has only one live and a good blaster, but not as
 good as Han's.
* Obi-Wan Kenobi: He is the last of the Jedi Knights. He gives
 you the lightsaber and he can revive Han and Leia up to five
 times, and restore all of your health - including Luke's -.
* C-3PO: His comments always steer you in the right direction, he
 also interprets R2-D2's messages.
* R2-D2: This little droid is very useful, he can plug to
 terminals and assist in your X-wing.

NOTE: You can't play as Obi-Wan, 3PO or R2, they help you in the
     game, no more, no less.

3.3) WEAPONS FOR LUKE, HAN & LEIA
=================================

LUKE'S BLASTER
Luke's blaster is very weak and slow. It isn't recommended. Try to
get Luke's advanced blaster or you won't survive in the game.

LUKE'S ADVANCED BLASTER
You get this blaster in the first cave in Tatooine, at the end of
the level. The difference between this blaster and the original
blaster is that this one fires very fast.

LUKE'S LIGHTSABER
When you find Obi-Wan Kenobi, he gives you this - Anakin
Skywalker's lightsaber. I don't like the lightsaber, 'cause it has
little range area and you can't use it while jumping, but it's the
most powerful weapon of all, and you can defeat enemies you can't
with any blaster, like the dianoga.

HAN'S BLASTER
Han's blaster is the best blaster of all. It's very fast and very
powerful, like twice as Luke's advanced, but be careful not losing
Han, or you won't have this blaster.

LEIA'S BLASTER
Leia's blaster is very similar to Luke's advanced. I haven't found
any difference between Luke's ad. and Leia's.

4) MISSIONS
===========

STAGE 1 - TATOOINE DESERT

Location:
  Tatooine

Objective:
  Find R2-D2 and escape in the Millennium Falcon

Items:
  Luke's Advanced Blaster, Lightsaber, Shields, Lives

Characters:
  Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, R2-D2

In this mission, like the cutscene tells, you're searching for
R2-D2, that has escaped for an unknown reason. You'll start in
your landspeeder moving across Tatooine Desert into several
places. First, you'll start at a cave that has no enemies, so
try to practice in this level; at the end of the cave, you'll
find a blaster, pick it to enhance your current blaster. Then,
below you, you'll find a rock that divides the path in two. The
left path goes to a cave by moving left-down; the right path will
take you to the entrance of a cave full of Sandpeople and moving
to Mos Eisley entrance and a cave more to the right. At the very
top-left corner of the Desert, you'll find a Sandcrawler, get in
and find R2-D2. In the Desert, out of the Sandcrawler, move more
to the right to find more caves (remember to be on top). You'll
find Obi-Wan at a cave full of flying insectoids near the top-
right corner of the Desert. When you want to get out of the
Desert, just go to Mos Eisley, it's a path surrounded by rocks in
a straight line, with the entrance uncovered. In Mos Eisley, you
can enter to a door that you'll see that will take you to the
Cantina, where you can find Han Solo at the very end, and then
return to the start. In Mos Eisley, you have to find the entrance
to the hangar, where the Millennium Falcon is. In the hangar, you
will find many stormtroopers that will try to kill you, so be on
the look out; you finally finish the level when you get to the
Millenium Falcon.


STAGE 2 - ALDERAAN (ASTEROID FIELD)

Location:
  Ruins of Alderaan

Objective:
  Escape from the asteroid field

When you get to Alderaan in the Millennium Falcon, you'll find
out that it has been destroyed by the new Death Star, and you'll
have to escape this asteroid field. To escape without a scratch,
fly to the lower-left or lower-right corner until there are no
rocks.


STAGE 3 - THE DEATH STAR

Location:
  Death Star

Objective:
  Get out of the hangar, destroy tractor beam and escape

Items:
  1 life

Characters:
  Princess Leia

This level is very complex. First, you must get out of the hangar
- this is easy, just follow the path; then, you will be in the
hallways - a maze of elevators -, but instead of taking an
elevator, go straight ahead and get in the door, where you must
get to the end and enter that other door; here, R2-D2 will
connect itself to a terminal and you'll find out that Princess
Leia will be executed. Now, go to the maze again and find the
tractor beam reactor and destroy it - it's like a little box in a
capsule (inside another door) and destroy it climbing the stair
and firing it (Han can destroy it quickly). Then, go find Leia;
she's one level above the entrance to the trash compactor; when
you get to a hallway that has two black doors, that's the cell
block - Leia is on the second door. Then, find the way to get to
the floor below you and go to the trash compactor. Now, you must
make your way through the machinery, but that's not an easy
thing, so, try to use every character to maintain your health at
a good level. When you get to the dianoga, use your lightsaber
and zap that creature with one slash. Now, you must take the path
and find the way to the hangar, destroying the Imperial troops
that get in your way.


STAGE 4 - ESCAPING FROM THE DEATH STAR

Location:
  Near the Death Star, en route to Yavin IV

Objective:
  Get to Rebel base on Yavin IV

Here, you'll fly in the Millennium Falcon in the gunner controls.
You must destroy every TIE that you see, 'cause it can damage
your ship. Here, you use the shields you collected in Tatooine,
just like the in the asteroid field.


STAGE 5 - THE BATTLE OF YAVIN, PART 1
         APPROACHING THE DEATH STAR

Location:
  Flying from Yavin IV to the Death Star

Objective:
  Get to the Death Star

Here you'll have to fight a wave of TIE fighters with your X-
wing, just like the last level. Remember to fire at the laser
blasts they shoot, too.


STAGE 6 - THE BATTLE OF YAVIN, PART 2
         THE DEATH STAR TRENCH RUN

Location:
  Death Star

Objective:
  Destroy the Death Star

This is the last level. Here, you need to get to the exhaust port
area, located at the end of the trench, and fire your torpedoes
to destroy the Death Star. Here, you'll have to fight TIEs too.
Fire your lasers to destroy the ones in front of you and your
torpedoes to destroy the ones behind you, but try to have the
TIEs in front of you always. When you see a hole in the floor,
fire your torpedoes to blow up the Death Star.

TIP: To make more challenging the game, try finishing it with
    100%.

5) SECRETS & CODES
==================

* SHIELDS AND LIVES *
You can find shields and lives for Luke and your ships in
Tatooine in the caves. The last life is almost at the end of
the Death Star stage (stage 3).

6) COMMON QUESTIONS
===================

WHAT IS THE SELECT SCREEN?
It's a special screen where you can select character, weapon,
check your health and the percentage of game completed.
