ABOUT ME:
---------

-I use the VisualBoyAdvance emulator to play the POKEMON games on PC.
-I have the RED, BLUE, YELLOW, GOLD, SILVER, CRYSTAL, RUBY, SAPPHIRE, GREEN,
PUZZLE, PINBALL and POKEMON TCG games, ALL ENGLISH(except GREEN, which
is in JAPANESE).
-I finished the RED, BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN, GOLD, SILVER, CRYSTAL, RUBY
and SAPPHIRE versions, plus POKEMON TCG.
-I found codes that can overwrite tiles of map, making them
accessible(for going wherever you want) for RED, BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN, GOLD,
SILVER and CRYSTAL.
-I got ALL 386 POKEMON in SAPPHIRE(with GAMESHARK(tm), of course).
-I released this guide(my first).
-E-MAIL ADDRESS: N/A

I made this guide so everyone can get MEW and other rare POKEMON
by taking advantage of a glitch in the game.
I discovered this glitch on Saturday - 13.12.2003 and soon
realised just how big it was: it allowed a player to get any
POKEMON without GAMESHARK(tm) or trading! A half an hour later, I found MEW!
I've also found the algorythm by which they're generated. So I started
composing this guide!
I've since also tried to reduce the requirements for doing these tricks as
much as possible, so that anyone may be able to do them(you'll notice many
"if you can't do that, do this instead" lines).
..But first, here's the

2.) HOW TO GET RARE/UNIQUE POKEMON:
===================================

There are trainers in the game with a maximum visual range of 1/2 the
screen's length. The moment they pop up from a side of the screen,
they challenge you. These trainers have a very slow response speed.
This means that, when you find such a trainer and it comes within your
screen area, if you move fast enough, you can do an extra action before it
challenges you(i.e. move out of the way or activate the START MENU).

STEP 1:
-------

Stand close enough to one of these trainers so that if you take one step
towards them they will pop up from a side of the screen and challenge you.
Take one step in their direction AND WHILE YOUR CHARACTER IS TAKING THAT STEP
PRESS AND HOLD START. The MENU should pop up at the very moment when the
trainer appears. He will not have enough time to challenge you and will
wait until you close the START MENU.

STEP 2:
-------

Using the START MENU, exit the area(route etc.) in which he's in via any means
necessary(i.e. TELEPORT, FLY, ESCAPE ROPE, DIG etc.).
Notice how the trainer gets the "!" mark over his head and how the music
changes while you are disappearing. However, he won't have enough time to
challenge you because you will be transported to a POKEMON CENTER before he
has time to walk up to you.
NOTE: Later on these 2 steps will be referred to as the "LONG-RANGED TRAINER
     EVENT".

STEP 3:
-------

Now, after you've gotten away, beat another trainer.
Notice how you are unable to use the START MENU or interact with people,
but you can still interact with hidden items and the PC.
The trainer you choose to battle with must have a visual
range of at least 2 map tiles(so it can walk up to you when it
sees you). Each trainer will generate a different POKEMON at STEP 5.
DON'T TALK TO THE TRAINER AND DON'T STAND DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF IT, OR THE GAME
WILL FREEZE! Instead, place yourself at least 1 step away from it.
After beating it, the START MENU will work again.
TIP: You can use the PC to save the game by changing the POKEMON BOX.
By resetting and loading after that, the START MENU will work again.
Use this little trick to fight trainers in areas you normally couldn't
access without using the START MENU. But even after you enable it, you'll
still need to beat 1 more trainer to get to the next step. However, now
you can use any trainer, including special trainers like GYM LEADERS or
your rival. But you still need to stand 1 step away from trainers that
    have a visual range.
If you want the POKEMON generated at STEP 5 by a trainer you can't reach
(i.e. a girl in ERIKA's GYM, and you need CUT to get in, but you can't access
the MENU to use it), beat another trainer you can easily get to(or use the PC
saving trick), then go to the other trainer that you couldn't
reach, because the START MENU will now work again.
Saving at this point, resetting and loading will NOT corrupt the savegame.
However, the events at STEP 5 will no longer occur.
NOTE: Using the PC to re-enable the START MENU will also allow you to battle
trainers on the route with the long-ranged trainer. They will lose
their visual range, so they have to be challenged by talking to
them. If any trainer on that route says or would have said anything
after losing(like the ROCKET on NUGGET BRIDGE on ROUTE 24), that
message will appear on screen, regardless of what trainer you've beaten,
the "!" mark will appear again over the trainer's head and the game will
freeze, so don't do this on routes which contain such trainers.
WARNING: Battling a trainer on the same route with the long-ranged trainer
will cause strange sounds on the background and a lot of pausing,
making it very difficult to move around. Try pressing "A" or "B" at
times if the game seems to be frozen. The MENU can still be
used...after pressing "START" a few(?) times, and sometimes messages
like "1 ERROR" appear. Sometimes, the MENU doesn't want to activate
at all, and you'll have to battle a POKEMON to(maybe) re-enable it.
There are also times when the game will simply freeze.
The effect is permanent, so don't save if you ever want to use that
route again! Also, the game will halt if you beat yet another trainer
on that route after enabling this effect!

STEP 4:
-------

Return to the long-ranged trainer you triggered at step 1.
NOTE: Do not go to the VIRIDIAN GYM during this time, unless it's open, as
the game will freeze at STEP 5. Even as much as looking at the locked
door is enough to trigger this unwanted effect.
The moment you enter the area in which he's in, the START MENU will pop up all
by itself. Do something to close it(FLY, TELEPORT, ESCAPE ROPE, DIG etc.,
or simply press "B"). It doesn't matter what you do, your
actions from here on will not change what will happen in the next step.

STEP 5:
-------

A POKEMON battle will start. Run, catch it, or make it faint.
This "surprise-POKEMON" that appears depends on the SPECIAL of the last
POKEMON the opponent used before getting beaten.
The surprise-POKEMON will always be at level 7.
NOTE: The long-ranged trainer you triggered can still be fought, so you can do
this trick many times over with different trainers.
Some of these surprise-POKEMON may be very rare, unique, and some may
not even be in the version of the game. For example, GROWLITHE is not
in the BLUE version, but can be obtained in it using this trick.
The only downside of this procedure is that it can be done a limited
number of times(until you run out of trainers). However, you will
find different tricks below that are based on this procedure, but can
be done without the use of additional trainers. These tricks will
further narrow the requirements and enlarge the number of POKEMON that
     can be obtained.

!!IMPORTANT!!
-------------

It doesn't matter which trainer you've beaten first. The
surprise-POKEMON will always depend on the trainer you beat last.

A GOOD WAY TO PLAY AND GET RARE POKEMON:
----------------------------------------

-Trigger the long-ranged trainer event.
-Keep fighting trainers until you beat one that is supposed to bring up a rare
POKEMON(a list of them is below).
-Return to the long-ranged trainer to get it.

After that, repeat the procedure in order to get another POKEMON.

!!IMPORTANT!!
-------------

After you trigger the long-ranged trainer event and beat at least 1 more
trainer, wild POKEMON can also influence the surprise-POKEMON in the same way
in which the trainer's POKEMON could. The results vary a lot(not even 2
POKEMON of the same level and kind will generate the same POKEMON), so the
possibilities are many and you can get just about any POKEMON!

REPEATING THE TRICK ABOVE AN INFINITE NUMBER OF TIMES:
------------------------------------------------------

After you've beaten just about all the trainers in the game, make sure you
still haven't beaten at least 1 long-ranged trainer and do the
following:

-Trigger the long-ranged trainer event.
-Fight another trainer. If you can't find one, do this:
-Go to a PC and change the POKEMON BOX.
-Reset and load.
-Beat the LEAGUE.
-Go into a field and battle 1 wild POKEMON.
-Return to the long-ranged trainer you triggered at the begining.
When the MENU pops up, close it. You'll start fighting a POKEMON.
It will depend on the last seen wild POKEMON's SPECIAL(more details
further on).

You can do this trick an infinite number of times, as none of the 2 trainers
will be beaten.

======================================
3.) LOCATIONS OF LONG-RANGED TRAINERS:
======================================

Here's a list of all the long-ranged trainers that you can use for the
long-ranged trainer event. You may want to choose only one of them(the most
accessible) for long-ranged trainer events.
Personally, I use the one on ROUTE 24.

ROUTE 8(between LAVENDER and SAFFRON):
--------------------------------------

-The GAMBLER nearest to the entry in the underground tunnel.

ROUTE 9(to ROCK TUNNEL):
------------------------

-JR.TRAINER(male)(the one who says "I'm taking the ROCK TUNNEL to go to
LAVENDER...").

ROUTE 11(right of VERMILION):
-----------------------------

-The southest YOUNGSTER.
-The YOUNGSTER in the upper, right corner of the route.

ROUTE 12(below LAVENDER):
-------------------------

-The 2nd FISHERMAN you meet as you walk south from LAVENDER.

ROUTE 17(west of CELADON):
--------------------------

-The 2nd northest BIKER(watch out, he's not the one near the field). Press and
hold "B" to stop the BIKE from going downwards.

SEA ROUTE 19(south of FUCHSIA):
-------------------------------

-The SWIMMER looking upwards from a cluster of 4 trainers.
-The BEAUTY looking towards the right from a cluster of 4 trainers.
-The SWIMMER saying "I tried diving for POKEMON, but it was a no go!".
-The SWIMMER saying "What's beyond the horizon?".

SEA ROUTE 20(south-west of FUCHSIA):
------------------------------------

-The SWIMMER in the upper-right corner of the route.
-The BEAUTY saying "My boyfriend gave me big pearls!".
-The BEAUTY saying "CINNABAR, in the west, has a LAB for POKEMON.".

SEA ROUTE 21(north of CINNABAR):
-------------------------------

-There is a bridge on the left with 2 fishermen and 2 SWIMMERS a bit to the
south. Both SWIMMERS are long-ranged.

ROUTE 24(above CERULEAN CITY):
------------------------------

-The JR. TRAINER(male) left to the water patch near NUGGET BRIDGE.

4TH FLOOR-SILPH CO.(SAFFRON):
-----------------------------

-ROCKET(as you ascend to the 3rd floor, go 1 step left, then down to the
table, on the right side).
-ROCKET(left-most, downest character on that floor).

8TH FLOOR-SILPH CO.(SAFFRON):
-----------------------------

-ROCKET(southest of all).
-ROCKET(lower-right corner of the route).

9TH FLOOR-SILPH CO.(SAFFRON):
-----------------------------

-ROCKET(southest of all, in the middle corridor).

USELESS LONG-RANGED TRAINER:
----------------------------

The trainer in BROCK'S GYM is also long-ranged, but since he's in a GYM you
can't use him for the trick, because you can't use FLY or DIG or ESCAPE ROPE
etc. to get out of the GYM.

4.) FINDING RARE POKEMON:
=========================

TRAINERS THAT GENERATE RARE POKEMON:
------------------------------------

NOTE: Many of the POKEMON listed below are also generated by other trainers,
but I listed only 1 for each(except MEW, for which I mentioned both
     trainers I've found).
These POKEMON vary by the SPECIAL of the last POKEMON the trainer used.
It is impossible to determine, during a battle, what the opponent's SPECIAL
is, but, with trainer battles, it's always the same value, no matter how many
times you beat the same trainer.
Here's a list of what trainers to beat after you've triggered the long-ranged
trainer event and the surprise-POKEMON they generate.

-ROUTE 3:
--------

-The northest girl on the entire route -> GENGAR

-ROUTE 8:
--------

-SUPER NERD(nearest to the upper-right corner of the only field
 in the area) -> SCYTHER
-From a row of 4 trainers set in straight line(top to bottom), the southest
of all the girls that stands looking to the left -> BLASTOISE

---------

-The 1st BEAUTY, the one on left of the route, just before the maze of
 poles -> GYARADOS

-ROUTE 14:
---------

-The northest BIKER in the left side of the route(the route is divided in 2
by a row of trees) -> HITMONLEE

-ROUTE 15:
---------

-The girl near FUCHSIA, she's in north, need CUT to get to her -> GOLEM

-ROUTE 16:

-As you access ROUTE 16 through the house in the north, the 4th BIKER to the
left of the screen -> DRAGONITE
-As you access ROUTE 16 through the house in the north, the 2nd BIKER to the
left of the screen -> HITMONCHAN

-ROUTE 17:
---------

-The 2nd northest BIKER(watch out, he's not the one near the field) -> MANKEY

route in 2 is, on the left side -> ELECTABUZZ

-ROUTE 18:
----------

-The northest BIRD KEEPER -> ARBOK

-SEA ROUTE 19:
-------------

-The SWIMMER looking upwards from a cluster of 4 trainers -> ARTICUNO

-ROUTE 22:
---------

-Your rival, on his 2nd battle with you on that route(right after you get all
8 BADGES; he must have a BLASTOISE as his last POKEMON; I do not know what
he will generate if he has a CHARIZARD/VENUSAUR/EEVEE instead) -> FLAREON

-ROUTE 25:
---------

-The leftmost HIKER -> NIDOQUEEN
-YOUNGSTER with level 17 SLOWPOKE -> MEW

--------------------

-ROCKET(southest of all, in the middle corridor) -> MOLTRES

-CERULEAN GYM:
-------------

-SWIMMER -> MEW

-SAFFRON GYM:
------------

-CHANNELER(middle row, left) -> OMANYTE

-ABANDONED BUILDING ON CINNABAR:
-------------------------------

-The only SCIENTIST in the building's basement(where you get the
 SECRET KEY) -> FARFETCH'D

-POKEMON LEAGUE:
---------------

-LORELEI -> DEWGONG
-BRUNO -> DRAGONAIR
-AGATHA(make sure she doesn't switch POKEMON during the battle) -> PORYGON
-LANCE -> KINGLER

TO DO THIS TRICK WITH AN ELITE FOUR:
 ------------------------------------

!!IMPORTANT TO KNOW: HAVE A POKEMON WITH FLY/TELEPORT WITH YOU BEFORE
ATTEMPTING THIS TRICK, OR RISK GETTING STUCK FOREVER!!

-Go inside the SAFARI ZONE HOUSE.
 -Pay 500 to get in.
-As soon as you're in, leave.
-When asked if you're leaving early, say "NO".
-Once back in the SAFARI ZONE, WITHOUT TAKING A SINGLE STEP, save.
-Reset the game and load the save.
-Leave SAFARI ZONE(this time, for real).
 -Trigger the long-ranged trainer event.
-Battle another trainer. If you can't find one, do this:
-Go to the PC and change the POKEMON BOX.
  -Reset and load.
-Go into the LEAGUE and battle the ELITE FOUR until you encounter the
ELITE FOUR who's surprise-POKEMON you want. Beat him.
NOTE: You can't do this trick with your rival.
-Start walking around in the area, WITHOUT CHALLENGING ANYONE ELSE.
-After you take about 500 steps, the P.A. will ring and you'll
be back in the SAFARI ZONE HOUSE.
-Exit the house(notice the map is glitched). FLY/TELEPORT to the nearest
city and return to the long-ranged trainer you've triggered at the
  begining.
-When the MENU pops up, close it. You'll start fighting the POKEMON that
  ELITE FOUR generates.

LIST OF SPECIAL VALUES AND THE POKEMON THEY GENERATE:
-----------------------------------------------------

After you've triggered the long-ranged trainer event, the surprise-POKEMON
will depend on the SPECIAL of the last trainer's POKEMON you battle.
Each SPECIAL value generates a different POKEMON. If you've beaten at least 1
more trainer after the long-ranged trainer event, the surprise-POKEMON will
also depend on the SPECIAL of the last wild POKEMON you battle.
Here's the list of SPECIAL values and the POKEMON they generate.

158 is the highest SPECIAL a wild POKEMON can have(a level 64 CHANSEY).
The POKEMON below cannot be obtained.
However, if you really intend to get the POKEMON below, try following:
-Trigger the long-ranged trainer event.
-Beat another trainer. If you can't find one, do this:
-Go to a PC and change the POKEMON BOX.
-Reset and load.
-Beat the LEAGUE.
-Go to VIRIDIAN and talk to the man in the north.
-He will ask you a question. Answer "NO".
-After seing how to catch a WEEDLE, FLY to CINNABAR and SURF on the
east coast. Hopefully, you will find a POKEMON over level 100(which
will obviously have a higher SPECIAL than any other POKEMON).
-Return to the long-ranged trainer.
If there are no POKEMON over level 100, stop bothering. It's not bad-luck,
it's the name you've chosen at the beginning of the game that
doesn't generate POKEMON over level 100, altough most names do.
If you can't do the trick above either, link up with a friend and read
the "GETTING ANY POKEMON VIA LINK CABLE" section(later on).
If you have no LINK CABLE, check the "TRANSFORM'S SIDE-EFFECT" section.

If a POKEMON's SPECIAL goes over 255, the list above repeats itself
(i.e. a SPECIAL of 256 generates the same POKEMON as a SPECIAL of 0,
a SPECIAL of 257 generates the same POKEMON as a SPECIAL of 1,
a SPECIAL of 258 generates the same POKEMON as a SPECIAL of 2 etc.).
Also, some glitch-POKEMON increase the number of captured POKEMON by 1.

'M AND MISSINGNO.'S SIDE-EFFECTS:
---------------------------------

Upon encountering "'M" or "MISSINGNO.", the amount of your
6th item will be increased by 128. Neat, huh? Unfortunately, this
also messes up your HALL OF FAME.

EXTRA NOTES ABOUT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN VERSIONS:
-----------------------------------------------

Here are some differences for the events previously presented.

-POKEMON GREEN:
--------------

-Sorry for those who have the GREEN version, because these 2 glitch-POKEMON
("'M" and "MISSINGNO.") do not appear in it. The game will freeze instead,
so avoid encounters. The #250 glitch will have the same effect as "'M" or
"MISSINGNO." in GREEN, as will other glitch-POKEMON too.

-POKEMON YELLOW:
---------------

-In YELLOW, "MISSINGNO." has a wierd side-effect: it turns
off battle music and after the battle, lots of people will be running
around on your screen and the PIKACHU behind you will be gone.
Don't worry: simply FLY into another city and it'll be back to
normal. It may also be possible(sadly) that the game will only allow
you to encounter "MISSINGNO." a limited number of times. After that, the
game will freeze each time you try to encounter them. I sure hope you
 won't get this bad-luck!
-Another thing is that "'M" doesn't exist in YELLOW. It'll still
be a glitch-POKEMON, but won't change the amount of your 6th item.
-!!!!WARNING: IF YOU'RE PLAYING POKEMON YELLOW AND YOU CATCH THE
GLITCH-POKEMON THAT A SPECIAL OF 0 GENERATES, DON'T LOOK AT ITS STATUS
WHILE IT IS IN THE PC! IT'LL MESS UP YOUR NAME, ERASE ALL YOUR
PARTY POKEMON, AND YOUR SAVEGAME WILL BE ERASED!!!!
To remove this bad effect from it, first overwrite its 4th attack(the
glitched one) with something else. Then deposit it and look at its STATUS
while it's in the PC. After you've done that, withdraw it, and
it'll be a RHYDON, and your name, party POKEMON and savegame will be OK!
And it'll never be able to delete your game again! You might want to
raise it, because it has a very high STATUS(about 450 on each feature),
 except for HP(about 200) and SPEED(about 100). If you didn't turn it
into a RHYDON, don't let it evolve into KANGASKHAN, or it will lose its
exceptional STATUS. Trading it to RED/BLUE also causes it to lose its
great STATUS. Just remember to be careful, OK? Check your name before
saving, and if it's glitched, don't save and reset(I lost a savegame
because of this...luckily I had it backed-up)...And remember that
changing PC BOXES also saves the game!

ANOTHER USE FOR THE LIST OF SPECIALS:
-------------------------------------

If you have a GAMESHARK(tm) and you want these POKEMON, open the Windows
Calculator, type in the number they correspond to from the list above as
decimal and convert it into hexadecimal. Then, use the resulting number in the
GAMESHARK codes "01xxD8CF"(for RED/BLUE), or "01xxD7CF"(for YELLOW),
where "xx" is the number you've converted. You will battle that POKEMON in
every field you go into(don't worry if some POKEMON appear a bit glitchy).
(codes above from "GameTalk" forum)

OBSERVATION:
------------

The values of the SPECIAL that generate the surprise-POKEMON are the
same with those found in GAMESHARK codes, only that they have to
be converted from decimal to hexadecimal(can be done with the Windows
Calculator). So, when you do this trick, you're kinda using GAMESHARK codes
without a GAMESHARK device!

NOTE: Wild level 70 MEWTWO(in CERULEAN CAVE) has a SPECIAL so high, it goes
over the 190 limit(to about 220), so it starts to generate trainer
     battles!

GETTING A POKEMON YOU WANT:
---------------------------

-Have less than 6 POKEMON with you.
-Trigger a long-ranged trainer event.
-Beat another trainer. If you can't find any do the following:
-Go to a PC and change the POKEMON BOX.
-Reset and load.
-Beat the LEAGUE.
-Go into a field and save the game.
-Capture the first wild POKEMON you see. Look at its SPECIAL and
compare it to the list above. If it generates a POKEMON you want,
go back to the long-ranged trainer to get it. If not, reset, continue
the game and search the field again.

EXAMPLE: After you trigger the long-ranged trainer event and beat 1 trainer,
you go into a field. There you battle a wild level 3 RATTATA. Because
the RATTATA had a SPECIAL of 7, when you return to the long-ranged
trainer's area and the MENU pops up, after you close it, you will
        battle a NIDOKING.

You might want to encounter a "MISSINGNO." and have your MASTER BALL in
the 6th slot before you do this trick(this will clone the MASTER BALL),
so that capturing will be easier. To encounter one, do one of the following:
-Talk to the northest man in VIRIDIAN CITY, answer "NO", FLY to CINNABAR and
SURF on the east coast until you meet a "'M" or a "MISSINGNO.".
-Trade with someone in the LAB on CINNABAR, then go and surf on the east
coast of the island. You'll find a level 80 "MISSINGNO.".
-You can also use the trick presented in this guide to find a "MISSINGNO.".

WILD POKEMON THAT MIGHT GENERATE RARE POKEMON:
----------------------------------------------

Here are a few POKEMON which, with a bit of luck, will generate the POKEMON
that I linked them to(depends on their SPECIAL). There are also many others.
You have to catch them and look at their SPECIAL to see if they REALLY
generate the POKEMON they're linked to. If you think this trick takes too
long to do, check the "TRANSFORM'S SIDE-EFFECT" section which can be found
later on in the guide. It contains a more effective way of getting POKEMON.
NOTE: You'll have to have beaten at least 1 more trainer after
triggering the long-ranged trainer event in order for this to work.

GETTING ANY POKEMON VIA LINK CABLE(tm):
---------------------------------------

Let's say that there are 2 players and both of them want a POKEMON they can't
obtain. I will call the 2 players "A" and "B". Here are the steps that must
be done in order to get it. You can catch ANY POKEMON in this way.
Have fun!

NOTE: "B" will need a POKEMON with DIG before attempting this trick.
ESCAPE ROPE or TELEPORT won't work as substitutes for DIG here.

-"A" grows a POKEMON until the list of SPECIALS above sais that its
SPECIAL will generate the desired POKEMON(i.e. SPECIAL = 21 -> MEW).
-"A" then deposits all of his POKEMON to the PC until he's left only with the
POKEMON with the "adjusted" SPECIAL.
-"B" triggers the long-ranged trainer event and beats another trainer
afterwards. But, if there aren't anymore trainers, he goes to a PC and
changes the POKEMON BOX, resets, loads his game(will re-enable the
START MENU and interaction with people) and beats the LEAGUE.
-"B" goes into SAFARI ZONE.
-"B" exits SAFARI ZONE, but when asked "Leaving early?", he replies "NO".
-Once back in SAFARI ZONE, WITHOUT MOVING, "B" saves the game.
-"B" resets his game and loads the save.
-"B" exits SAFARI ZONE(this time, he won't be asked if he's leaving early).
-"A" and "B" link up and go to the COLOSSEUM.
-"B" defeats "A".
-After the battle, "B" starts walking around inside the COLOSSEUM. While "B"
is doing that, "A" resets his game and loads his save.
After "B" takes about 500 steps, the PA will ring and he will be transported
back into the house from where you enter SAFARI ZONE.
-"B" pays up and goes inside SAFARI ZONE once again. ONCE INSIDE THE SAFARI
ZONE, HE DOESN'T GO INTO ANY FIELDS.
-"B" uses DIG to return to the last POKEMON CENTER visited.
-"B" walks back to the long-ranged trainer that he's triggered.
-"B"'s START MENU will pop up all by itself.
-"B" will close the MENU and a wild POKEMON will appear. It will be the
desired POKEMON.
-"B" catches it.
-"B" goes to the nearest PC and changes the POKEMON BOX.
-"B" resets his game.
-"B" loads his game. "B"'s "SAVE" option will be back in the MENU and the
"RESET" option will be gone.
If necessary, "B" withdraws the POKEMON he's just captured from the PC.
-"A" and "B" link up again, but this time they go to the TRADE CENTER.
-"B" trades the captured POKEMON to "A", so they'll both have it in their
POKEDEX.

TRANSFORM'S SIDE-EFFECT:
------------------------

Have you ever fought a wild POKEMON that knows TRANSFORM(like DITTO) with a
very good POKEMON? Have you ever seen how even the weakest DITTO can survive
one of your level 100 POKEMON's most powerful attacks after transforming
into it? Well, I'm VERY happy to say that I've checked the memory address
in which the enemy's SPECIAL is stored and found out that it, just like all
other STATUS features, gets changed into yours after it uses TRANSFORM!
Yep! That means that you don't have to squeeze your brains trying to find
wild POKEMON with a certain SPECIAL value anymore. Now, the wild POKEMON
can change its SPECIAL into yours!

-Raise one of your POKEMON until its SPECIAL can generate a POKEMON you want.
(that's the good part, because you can raise a POKEMON into getting ANY
SPECIAL value within the 0-255 interval, and even above it)
-Trigger the long-ranged trainer event.
-Beat another trainer. If there aren't any, go to a PC and change the POKEMON
BOX, reset, continue and beat the LEAGUE.
-Put the POKEMON with the "adjusted" SPECIAL on top of your list.
-Go to ROUTE 13, 14, 15, or 23 and find a DITTO.
-Let it TRANSFORM into your POKEMON(it will copy your POKEMON's SPECIAL).
-End the battle and go back to the long-ranged trainer. You will fight a
level 7 POKEMON generated by the SPECIAL of your the 1st POKEMON in your
party.

..And there you have it! Because your POKEMON's SPECIAL remains unchanged,
your POKEMON will always generate the same surprise-POKEMON(I've caught
4 MEWTWOS using this trick in about 15 minutes and now(finally), I have
ALL 151 POKEMON SEEN AND CAUGHT). Now all the rare POKEMON generated by
SPECIALS higher than 158 can be yours without the LINK CABLE!
Also, this trick can be used to battle the GYM LEADERS and certain trainers
all over again. It is the best way to get rare POKEMON and is highly
recommended if you want to get them, because it has NO LIMITS WHATSOEVER on
what you can catch.

=============================
5.) WHY THE GLITCH IS CAUSED:
=============================

The programmers who made this game omitted a tiny detail:
when a character appears on screen, its default position is down-faced.
So is your character's position(i.e. if you're looking left, save the game,
reset it and load, you'll be down-faced). It takes time for a character to be
turned. Because most trainers don't have a max. visual range, this glitch was
accepted, as, by the time you make your way to the trainer, it will have
already been set into the correct position. But, for long-ranged trainers,
this delay will allow you to do an extra action before they are set.
These actions of "turning around" are part of a class of passive actions that
occur after you give the command on your gamepad(i.e. at the ELITE FOUR,
if you press "START" just before the doors in front of you open, the
"OPEN MENU EVENT" will happen before the doors are opened/closed, and
sometimes you can even hear them open, even if they don't).
When you FLY away from the trainer, the action is continued, and
he challenges you. Sometimes, a trainer can challenge you while you are in
the middle of taking a step. To solve this, the game allows your character
about 0.1 secs to set itself into normal position before the battle starts.
In doing so, these 0.1 secs provide enough time for the "FLY EVENT" to take
place. When a battle starts, all outside factors in the area(route etc.)
are halted, and, as the trainer challenges you, it sets the beginning of a
battle. This explains why you can't challenge a trainer on the same route
where you activated this effect. As the battle is already half-begun, some
feats get turned off(i.e. MAIN MENU). Talking to people is disabled.
The auto-walking downwards on CYCLING ROAD also gets disabled.
This disabling of events occurs because, if you're in a cave and, say, a wild
POKEMON appears at the exact moment when you step in front of a trainer,
they'll challenge you by turn, and not both at once(which would be a glitch).
When you go to the 2nd trainer you want to beat, the "move opponent towards
character event", which was abandoned back at the long-ranged trainer, is
continued. If you stand directly in front of the trainer or talk to it
(either way, don't let it do its "walk up to you event"), the game will wait
until the trainer walks up into position, although it is already there,
causing the game to freeze by doing an endless loop. Stay at least 1 square
away from the trainer. When you battle that trainer, the memory area in which
what wild POKEMON challenges you is stored(00:CD2D) gets the value of the
SPECIAL of the last POKEMON fought(stored in 00:CFFD). When the battle is
over, all half-initiallyzed events are disabled and everything returns to
normal, everything except for the "hanged battle" taking place at the route
where your long-ranged trainer awaits. The area of memory mentioned earlier
will keep getting re-written for each POKEMON you fight. That's why, it
doesn't matter which trainer you beat first, the last one you've fought
with will always be the one that generates the surprise-POKEMON. However,
after you challenge at least 1 trainer, any POKEMON(GYM LEADER's, your
rival's, wild etc.) will now be able to influence the surprise-POKEMON. Upon
re-entering the area with the long-ranged trainer, the latest
window-related event will be re-triggered (MAIN MENU, or message, like
"REPEL's effect wore off!", if you've used the PC, you'll get a message
that a trainer is supposed to say when beaten). Using FLY, DIG etc. negates
this effect. The message window/START MENU pops up. The beaten trainer's
POKEMON are loaded into where the "hanged battle" is. Upon exitting the
window, that battle is continued. The game starts a "wild-POKEMON battle"
using the data from the previously-beaten POKEMON's SPECIAL as the wild
POKEMON. The value of the SPECIAL is used as a seed-number for the
surprise-POKEMON. That's how the surprise-POKEMON appears. This area of
memory apparently doesn't get written in the savegame memory area, so saving
after it is loaded into memory, resetting and loading will cause the
surprise-POKEMON to "vanish". After the battle is over, you can still repeat
this trick, as the long-ranged trainer remains unbeaten. That means you can
repeat this trick over and over again.
NOTE: You can use the GAMESHARK code "01xxFDCF" to modify the enemy POKEMON's
SPECIAL, where "xx" is the new value of the SPECIAL in hexadecimal
(can't be higher than 255). The code "01xx2DCD" offers an even more
direct approach: it modifies the area in which the surprise POKEMON
is stored. "xx" is its corresponding SPECIAL value in hexadecimal.

=============
6.) MEW TIPS:
=============

Many of you may be a little confused now, once you've obtained MEW. As a
result, I thought it would only be normal to give you a few hints on what
to do with MEW once you've caught it. After all, it's a very rare occasion,
and I'm sure you don't want to make any mistakes in rasing it. If you feel
disorientated, you might want to check out a few tips on raising MEW.

A LEVEL 100 MEW'S STATUS(ROUGHLY):
----------------------------------

#151 MEW
TYPE: PSYCHIC

HP:       330-370
ATTACK:   230-270
DEFENSE:  230-270
SPEED:    230-270
SPECIAL:  230-270

All STATUS points lost by raising it with RARE CANDY can be recovered by using
STATUS-enhancing items(HP UP, PROTEIN, IRON, CARBOS and CALCIUM).

STRATEGY:
---------

Altough MEW has very high HP, it is relatively weak, but can learn any attack.
Here's a suggestion of what to teach it in order to overcome its weaknesses:

FIRE BLAST
THUNDERBOLT
ICE BEAM
EARTHQUAKE

With these attacks, at least one of MEW's attacks will be super effective
against all types, except for DARK, FIGHTING, PSYCHIC, NORMAL and GHOST
(don't worry, GASTLY, HAUNTER and GENGAR will still have weakness due to their
POISON type, which has a weakness to EARTHQUAKE). If your opponent is too
powerful, then try deleting one of the attacks above (the one that offers the
less weaknesses) in favour of SOFTBOILED. Also, if traded to
GOLD/SILVER/CRYSTAL, you should give it to hold either KING'S ROCK
(which may cause the opponent to flinch), or, if you really want to keep the
attacks above without deleting any for SOFTBOILED, LEFTOVERS(which will cause
MEW to recover HP each turn). Also, if you think FIRE BLAST is too inaccurate,
you could take MEW into CRYSTAL, go on Saturday to the GOLDENROD GAME CORNER
and there will be a guy near the entrance. He'll teach MEW FLAMETHROWER for
4,000 coins. Also, in versions higher than YELLOW, MEW is able to learn
ANCIENTPOWER at level 50. It does 60 ROCK damage and has a 20% chance of
raising all STATUS. If it learns it, giving it an item that powers up
ROCK-type moves would not be such a bad idea. Also, if you're feeling that
your MEW is a bit weak, you could teach it TM19(SEISMIC TOSS). If your MEW
will be at level 100, it will do 100 HP damage. It may not be a good choice
for beating the LEAGUE, but in LINK BATTLES you can KO your opponent's
level 100 MEWTWO with just 3 or 4 hits!

===============
7.) CONCLUSION:
===============

I knew that RED/BLUE/YELLOW where so full of glitches that
it was almost impossible to lock away MEW from being obtained.
At first I tried to catch MEW by starting the game with different
names and SURFING on the east coast of CINNABAR ISLAND. And
I got pretty close - many rare POKEMON(SQUIRTLE, CHARMELEON, GENGAR, ALAKAZAM,
MEWTWO etc.) appeared! But I never found a name that unlocks MEW.
Besides, "MISSINGNO." was corrected in YELLOW, so, even if I found a name, it
would've been impossible to use it in YELLOW. But now I have found a trick to
capture MEW! Yes, the secret of MEW was in YOUR game all along!
