Dates Written: September 21 to September 25, 2002
I dedicate this to my old buddies Andrew Beimers and William Beimers. You
guys got me hooked on this game, and as you know, I own you. This even
carried over to NBA Street, and I look forward to whupping you boys at
least a couple of more times! This includes you too little Mikey Sulpher,
so be ready to lose when Volume Two comes out man!
Also, for Cougar. I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the
afterlife as you did in this world. You will always be in my memories, and
you will never be forgotten.
Also, In memory of Howler and Koonce. You two never had a good start in
your lives, but you had a good time when you spent your time at my house.
It was oh so unfortunate that you both had your already tragic lives cut
short, but I can only hope that I helped make your life a more enjoyable
experience. You too will be missed, but not forgotten.

----------------------------------Introduction------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) WELCOME TO NBA JAM...JAM...JAM...JAM! With these prophetic words, you
enter into your selection of the official rosters for when the game was
made (Vlade on the Lakers!), and you select which of the three available
characters you want to use off of your team of choice. You go to the
jump ball, you win it, you rush towards the rim, try to shoot, but
instead you take off into a helicopter jam! This is what this game is
all about, and you should dive right in to a crazy shoot out, NBA Jam
Style!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------Controls---------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) This section is going to look at the controls involved both aspects of
play: Offence and Defense.
o---------o
Offence
o---------o
D-Pad : The controls respond as you would expect them to: UP moves you UP,
RIGHT moves you RIGHT, DOWN moves you DOWN, and LEFT moves you
LEFT.
SELECT : No apparent use.
START : Pauses/unpauses the game.
L Button: If held, uses your turbo.
R Button: If held, uses your turbo.
X Button: This will cause your player to swing his arms in an attempt to
steal the ball. If you are using turbo, you will shove your
opponent to the floor (more likely to get the ball).
Y Button: This will cause your player to swing his arms in an attempt to
steal the ball. If you are using turbo, you will shove your
opponent to the floor (more likely to get the ball).
B Button: This will cause your player to jump.
A Button: This will cause your player to jump.
o---------o
Defense

D-Pad : The controls respond as you would expect them to: UP moves you UP,
RIGHT moves you RIGHT, DOWN moves you DOWN, and LEFT moves you
LEFT.
SELECT : No apparent use.
START : Pauses/unpauses the game.
L Button: If held, uses your turbo. Also, if you tap turbo, you will throw

B Button: If pressed, you will shoot. If held you will jump with the ball
till you release. If done when using turbo, and heading at the
net, you will go into a huge slam.
A Button: If pressed, you will shoot. If held you will jump with the ball
till you release. If done when using turbo, and heading at the
net, you will go into a huge slam.
When the game is paused, you can hold the L and R Buttons to quit the
play mode you are in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------Play Modes-------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) This section is going to review the different play modes available to be
played, and all of the effects involved in each.
o--------------o
Head To Head
o--------------o
-Two Players can face off in all out bout of ball against one another. If
it is on one Player only, then you play a computer opponent. You play
under what rules you have set on the options menu (except two players
excludes tournament mode play).
o-----------o
Team Game
o-----------o
-Two Players will team up to face the computer opponent in an attempt to see
who is mightier: man or machine. One Player will play against a computer
opponent all by themselves. You play under what rules you have set on
the options menu (except two players excludes tournament mode play).
o----------o
Practice
o----------o
-This mode allows you to go practice all of your moves without any defenders
around to mess you up. This is an excellent way to learn where you can
dunk, lay-up, and shoot well from. Knowing how you will shoot when doing
so from a certain spot can be the difference between victory and defeat!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------Options--------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
4) This section will review all of the possible options you can utilize, and
it will also cover the quirks of certain ways to play.
o------------o
Time Speed
o------------o
This can be set on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being slowest to 5 being the
fastest. These are the speeds: 1 is Very Slow
2 is Slow
3 is Normal
4 is Fast
5 is Very Fast
o------------------o
Drone Difficulty
o------------------o
This is the setting that controls how good your opponents will be. Once
again the same number rules of 1 being the lowest to 5 being the best.
These are the speeds: 1 is Very Easy
2 is Easy
3 is Normal
4 is Hard
5 is Very Hard
o----------o
Tag Mode
o----------o
If this is off, then your teammate will be controlled by the computer. If
you have this option set to on, you will control whichever player has the
ball, and when on defense, whichever player last possessed the ball.
o---------------------o
Computer Assistance
o---------------------o
When this is set to on, you can tell your teammate to pass or shoot. If it
is off, you have no control over your teammate what so ever.
o--------------------------o
Controller Configuration
o--------------------------o
There are six different pre programmed controller styles. You will need to
experiment with them to discover which one you want to use. Unfortunately,
you can not make your own up, so hopefully you will find one that is good for
you.
o---------------------o
View/Delete Records
o---------------------o
This is where you can look at how people’s initials are doing on your
cartridge. You can also delete initials, and other info on this setting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~ Special Features Menu ~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
o-----------------o
Tournament Mode
o-----------------o
If this is on, it takes out all other settings on this screen. Also, it will
not allow any Enhancement Codes to be used. If it is off, you can alter the
other options on this menu.
o------------o
Shot Clock
o------------o
It is usually 24 seconds (the maximum setting), but it can be put as low as
5 seconds!
o----------o
Overtime
o----------o
This setting has a default of 3 minutes (once again, this is the maximum
setting), but you can lower it to two minutes or even one minute.
o-----------o
Hot Spots
o-----------o
These are small circles that will appear on the floor. They have an assigned
value of anywhere from 4 to 8 (this will be displayed within the circles).
If you make a basket from these, you gain that many points instead of the
normal value.
o---------------o
Powerup Icons
o---------------o
These will appear as small basketballs on the court, and they will have
markings indicating what type of power-up it will be. There are: B - Bomb,
3 - Better 3 Point Shooting, D - Dunk From Anywhere, P - Extra Power Stats,
T - Infinite Turbo, Fire - Become "On Fire", and S - Speed.
o------------o
Juice Mode
o------------o
This mode will increase the speed at which the clock/game moves at. It
differs from Time Speed because Time Speed directly affects the clock, where
as this makes the players moves faster. It is set to off (slowest setting),
and it increases in speed each time you go up a multiple (up to X4).
If you know of any info to add to this section, please e-mail me about
it. I will check it out, and if your contribution has credibility, I
will use it with full credit to you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------The Rules Of The Game--------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
5) This section is going to review the rules of basketball that apply to
this version of playing. Then, it is going to look at the over the top
rules involved in this style of play!
o------------o
Real Rules
o------------o
a) 24 Shot Clock - This means you have 24 seconds from when you first get
the ball to get a shot on net. By failing to do so (by not hitting the
rim), you will lose the ball to your opposition. This should prove to be
a fairly rare call in this game.
b) Goaltending - This is when a player grabs a ball in the air, when it is
on a downward trajectory towards the net. This is an illegal move (there
are some exceptions to this however), and you will be penalized for it by
the awarding of the points you stopped from going in.
c) Dribble - Once you pick your dribble up, you will be unable to move
because basketball does not allow double dribbling. All you can do at
this point is shoot, pass, head fake, and throw elbows. To pick your
dribble up, you have either: 1) head faked a shot, or 2) threw some elbows
after dribbling for at least one step.
d) After The Buzzer - shots still count, even if the clock has expired. So
shoot the ball even if the clock is too low for the ball to have time to
get there in regulation.
o------------------o
NBA JAM TE Rules
o------------------o
a) Shoving - Full body contact is not only allowed, but it is in fact the
encouraged method of causing turnovers from your opposition. At every
opportunity, hit your opponents to steal the ball as much as possible.
b) Elbow Throwing - This is a perfectly legal move in NBA Jam TE, and it is
an excellent way for you to clear some annoying defenders away from you
and the ball you are protecting.
c) Timed Violations - The 10 seconds to get over half, and the 3 in the key
rules are non-existent in this game.
d) Backover Rule - This is when a player passes the ball backwards over the
half line after crossing it. This does not exist in this game, so pass
backwards over half to your hearts content.
e) "On Fire" - This is when you score three consecutive baskets with the
same player. You will then have infinite turbo, and you will be allowed
to goaltend. You also become a supreme scoring machine with the
capabilities to really blow your opponent out of the water.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------Stats------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
6) This section will explain what each stat means, and how they should be
considered for affecting your team/player choices. Keep in mind that the
higher the rating of their stats score, the better they are at a certain
skill.
o-------o
Speed
o-------o
This one determines how fast a player moves when running around the court.
o------------o
3 Pointers
o------------o
This determines how well your player shoots from beyond the arc. It also
helps the players to hit longer three pointers (higher rating means a
slightly better chance).
o-------o
Dunks
o-------o
This rating will let you know how well a player can dunk. It also
determines how far out they can start a dunk, and how often the ball will
rim out.
o------o
Pass
o------o
This stat controls how well they can pass. If a player has a low pass stat,
they will be picked off more often than an excellent passer will.
o-------o
Power
o-------o
This controls a few things. First, it is the stat that determines how
injured you can get (see Injuries section). It also determines how well a
dunker/blocker will do on a dunk attempt, along with the other
corresponding stats. It also determines how well you stand up to being
shoved around.
o-------o
Steal
o-------o
This determines how well a player can swipe the ball from a defender. It
also comes into play when you are shoving your opponent as well.
o-------o
Block
o-------o
This is the stat determines how well a player can swat a dunk, and how well
the player can control the ball on a shot block (whether they swat it or
catch it).
o--------o
Clutch
o--------o
This stat is the one that comes into play for only 40 seconds in every game,
but becomes very important in the last 10 seconds of any quarter. This is
the stat that determines how well a player plays with the pressure of the
time winding down. The higher their rating, the more likely they will make
an incredible shot, or make a huge defensive play (block, steal, etc.).
These are the plays that can make or break your victory, so hopefully you
have a few clutch players to see you through the tight games.
o----------o
Injuries
o----------o
This stat is the one you want as low as possible, and it can go far above 9.
Every time you are hit by another player, you are risking the acquiring of
some injury points. The higher this rating, the more your stats will be
temporarily lowered (until you rid yourself of injuries). This means you
will be more likely to miss shots (even wide open ones), you will be slower,
and your defensive efforts will be less effective. The only way to remove
the damage is to sit a player out for a quarter to heal their wounds
completely.
The order of importance in stats are as follows: Power, Blocks, Dunks, 3
Pointers, Clutch, Speed, Steal, and Pass. These should be heavily
considered in this order for your teams selection process.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------Teams And Players And Ratings, OH MY!--------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
7) This section will be divided into conferences, and it will show all the
teams, their players (with their stats), and the rating of each team on a
scale of 0 to 9.

Jackson is a good floor general, but ultimately he is not that good.
Davis is only useful for subbing for a quarter to rest one of your
players. Low Clutch, and terrible support for Mashburn make this a
team you should avoid unless you are highly skilled. Mashburn is your
marquee player, and he has little help till you open up the extended
rosters (when you receive two of the four top rookie talents in Kidd
and Dumas). This makes this team a force to be reckoned with.

These guys are a team that may have the good dunker/blocker that is useful,
and they may have a fast shooter, but their bench player is terrible with 6
being his highest score in any category. A team that will require a hard
fought defensive game to win. With the addition of a great rookie in Rose,
and a solid veteran like Pack, you get the bench you never had before.
This team becomes much deadlier with the roster extensions!

Now this is an excellent team. The starting duo of Sprewell and Gugliotta
can dunk all over the opposition, and if they prove too tough inside, then
they can both bomb the three with equal precision. Seiklay offers a
decently talented player who gives you a strong dunker/blocker to rest your
two all-stars (Sprewell being low on power, will need to sit a lot). All
in all, despite the low Power of Sprewell, you still have a team that is in
the top five over all. The roster extension adds even more talent to your
roster in Hardaway (one of the best point guards around), and Mullin (one of
the best shooting forwards). Both of these guys add to one element you
sorely lack (Clutch). Power is still low, but with such amazing talent
gathered onto one team, you are going to be ok regardless of how injured one
player becomes.

These guys are the best team around (they were the champs after all). This
is when Olajuwon was unstoppable, when Thorpe and Horry were young up and
comers, and this is the team with only one skill rating (Olajuwon's 3
pointers which you do not need) under 4. Clutch is good, Power is great,
and Pass is the only real combined stat weakness. You may want to use
Horry instead of Thorpe due to his better stats along with Olajuwon. With
the extra players added in, Cassell has nothing to really offer, but Maxwell
gives you the very reliable outside presence. Still, Olawjuwon, Thorpe, and
Horry will play nearly all of your minutes.

be hard pressed to get consistent scoring from Roberts or Sealy. If you

These are not the Lakers of old (nor are they the Lakers of today). These
guys do have one stat going for them that bodes well (that is Clutch), but
they are low in Power, Steals, Pass, and Dunk. These guys will need to D up
big time to keep it close so there Clutch rating can help you out. With the
additions of James Worthy (hall of famer), and Eddie Jones (all star), you get
two men with VERY consistently high stats all around, and thusly the Lakers
become a much stronger unit.

Minnesota is pre-Garnett here, so you will have to make due with what you
have on hand. A well rounded team, they do not really shine in any
category. They get a little of each type of stat from each player, but they
can not play all three of them. You must decide what you can make due
without, and then go out to cover up your weaknesses. The additions of
slightly above average players like Marshall and Rooks at the roster
extension however, will make you a force with these two and Rider to face the
opposition.

This team is short, and does not dunk well, but it still scores very well.
This happens because they shoot the 3 pointer very well (a good strength in
this game). They do suffer on blocking and stealing, which means a harder
time on defense. They also have great clutch, so rest assured they will
tickle the twine in the last 10 seconds of every quarter. The addition of
Green and Tisdale to address the lack of Dunking ability, but are also
lacking in Stealing and Blocking still.

This team is overly dependent upon the oh so amazing Drexler. Although each
player contributes high stats in some categories the other two do not, this
team has two short player which is a major downside. All in all, a decent
team that needs just one more quality player to become a real contender.
The roster extensions do not really add to this squad, but they do add a
decent player in Strickland (not decent enough to help though). McKie adds
NOTHING of value, except mediocrity (which is not really valuable).

Sacramento is yet another team who have one excellent player, and very
little else. Although Spud Webb does have decent dunking and speed skills,
he has little else. Simmons could possibly be the worst player in the game.
If you decide to use these guys, keep Richmond uninjured as best you can, or
else you will suffer a lot of bad losses. The extended rosters add
absolutely nothing thank to a lowly rated stat set for Hurley (never use him
unless you want to lose faster or you are desperate for a decent outside
threat on the floor).

These guys have three excellent blockers, dunkers, and speedsters. Elliot
provides the outside threat, while Rodman and Robinson are nasty defenders.
This team suffers because their one real outside threat can be injured too
easily, which renders his attack pretty well useless. If they shot the
three a little better, these guys would be a tough team to beat. The
addition of Person gives you that deadly touch (along with amazing Clutch),
which could spell doom for your opponent. Cummings is not very useful.

This team is yet another in a long line of teams that overly depend upon one
man to carry them to victory. Kemp is well rounded, but not even he can do
it all. To have true success, you must be able to get wide open threes for
these guys (since their threes are mid range stats). Their defense has good
blocking (Kemp and Schrempf), and a great thief in Payton. A fun team to
use if you are an expert passer. Otherwise, you will suffer through a lot
of close games. The addition of Gill to the squad gives you an amazingly
well-rounded teammate to help remove a lot of pressure from Kemp (he also
outstrips Payton and Schrempf in most categories).

Despite the two small guards being bad blockers/dunkers, this team is an
excellent choice. The Mailman (Malone) has a great all round game, and when
you factor in two nearly identical lethal three point shooters, you have one
of the greatest tandems to use. The short stature of the two guards might
be the biggest problem you will face. Benoit adds little to your team, and
you will probably never use him (his Dunk stat is his only real strength).

These guys are a speedster team, so you should pressure your opponents on

This is a strong team that is lead by the monsters "Zo" and "L-J". With
these guys, you get strong stats in everything except Pass and Steal (two
least important ones). Bogues is good for a third quarter run to rest one
of your starters so you will have a fresh player for the last quarter. With
the roster extensions, your strategy will remain the same, but Curry
replaces Bogues to give you a more well-rounded, consistent scorer. A team
that definitely should be played with a few times.

The Bulls at this time had Jordan, but his license was not bought for this
game (too bad). Pippen is a pretty good consolation prize, but his
teammates lack in too many areas. They do well in Speed, 3 Pointers, and
Clutch, but these are not enough when the crappy Power of all three are
factored in. If you use this team, be very wary of getting beaten up (they
fall and give the ball up all too easy). The roster extensions add nothing
of worth in Longley (except someone who has some Power and Blocking), so use
him if you need to match up against a strong center.

given to him on a whole. However, he is THE man you need to have on the
floor if you are playing catch up. With the extended rosters, you get the
highest stats for any player in the game who is consistent on all stats.
Curley adds nothing but a little Clutch (he is a non-factor). You will use
Mills, Miller, and Kid for the most part, but Dumars is also a solid choice.

This team is the second most pleasant surprise contained in this game.
Rice, Miner, and Smith all play a well rounded game, which includes high Dunk
and 3 Point stats. However, with their low Power stat, they can be beaten
up quite badly (this should not be a big problem because you can sub). The
roster extensions gives you Reeves, who as a well rounded player himself,
gives you four players who can all play. This means you can start a quarter
with two fresh bodies each time (no injuries). You can get real far with
these guys despite their low Power.

Milwaukee is a team that just does not match up to snuff. They do not have
one player who can carry them, but they do have decent outside shooting.
Not one of these guys are consistent enough to make for a viable choice
(although Day is a decent player). The roster extension gives you Mobley, a
rather useless individual, and Glenn Robinson, a great up and comer who will
become the savior of this team. Robinson and Day will be your best bet if
you use these guys, but I suggest you make a better bet, and choose another

The roster extension will give you a well balanced helper in Gilliam, and
Dare adds an even better presence on the inside. The roster extension will
benefit you greatly as you use Coleman along with Gilliam. Sub in Dare for
Coleman in the third if needed, and switch Edwards and Gilliam as needed.

The Knicks are a really strong crew here, fresh off of an NBA Final around
this time. Ewing and Oakley give you a two man tough guy team that is only
rivaled by the San Antonio Spurs Robinson and Rodman. Starks can shoot AND
Dunk well, but is a bit of a liability on defense. You must decide if you
will be a defensive force, or if you will use Starks to score more. The
extended rosters unfortunately does not come even close to contributing
anything useful (Mason and Harper are recipients of low stats). Definitely
use your original three in whatever combination you find the best for your

Orlando is another team fresh off of an NBA Finals appearance around this
time, and despite the absence of a certain plus seven foot monster in the
middle, you still have an unbelievable team. Hardaway and Anderson are both
great shots from the outside (Anderson is slightly better in most categories
than Hardaway), and Grant is a great old strong blocker/dunker type.
Anderson and Grant are the pair to use, subbing in Hardaway if Anderson is
injured. Dennis Scott appears with the extended rosters, and although he is
lacking in many areas, he is THE man to bring in for a lot of threes.
Still, Grant paired with Anderson/Hardaway is the best way to go with this
team.

The Sixers are a team that is plagued by a few problems; most noticeably are
Clutch, and 3 pointers. This team is a jumble of talent that for some
reason, it does not mean you will balance out. Malone should be your main
guy, along with Bradley for defensive help ( or Weatherspoon if Bradley is
hurt). The extended rosters offer Barros to fill your outside threat spot,
but he pretty much sucks at everything else. Wright is just a tag on that
is yet another Mr. Splinter Ass (along with Montross ^_^). Go with Malone,
and one of your tall blockers to help out defensively. Go to Barros if you
need to pressure Steal and 3 Point the opposition.

The Wahsington Bullets have the fastest team around, bar none. There
players of Webber, Cheaney, and Skiles are all around 8, and they are also
highly rated in 3 Pointers, and Clutch. Webber is the man, and use Cheaney,
with occasional rest periods when Skiles replaces Cheaney. Rex Chapman is
your reward for the extended roster, and he gives you a tougher version of
your short players, with a little less 3 Point capability. Chapman and
Webber become your team of choice, with occasional subbing of Cheaney to
rest Chapman.

The Rookies will probably be skipped over by most players, but they have
every conceivable stat covered in one member or another. You also get well
rounded players (Kidd, Rose, Hill, Dumas), who are all interchangeable to
give you an extremely balanced attack. The only problem you might encounter
is a stiff defense that can shut you down well enough outside, and gives you
no dunks. This is an extremely underrated group, and you should consider
them as your team. These guys get NO roster extensions. What you do get is
the next team for you to use!

Well, what can I say? These are among the best players this game has to
offer, and ye I only rate them as a 9/10. Now why might I do this, you ask?
Well, my problem with this team is that their are not many good pairings,
you are forced to use the assigned pairings the game has given you. If you
could mix and match on this team, you would be able to make whatever
combination you might have needed. Instead, you rarely find a pairing that
gives you the balance you want. Besides, by this point you have reached the
position where your team of choice will be a better fit for you anyway!
This is all my opinion, so feel free to ignore it. I do advise you try to
keep a good balance of defense and offense on the floor. Also, try to
avoid using shorter players because there shots are blocked easier than
taller player will be (they also sturggle to block dunks and shots
themselves, due to their tiny stature).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------Strategies-------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
8) This section will give you some useful tricks to keep in mind while
playing. Not all will fit into your style of game, but use as many as
you can, and be ready to apply them to your game to make yourself a more
rounded, dangerous opponent.
o--------------------o
Aggressive Defense
o--------------------o
One of the most important things in NBA Jam TE is to try to be aggressive
on defense. By doing so, you increase your chances of stealing the ball,
you can lower the percentage of a players shot, you annoy your opponent
(human only), and you injure your opponent (lowering their stats some). By
doing this, you give yourself a much better chance to outscore your
opponent. It also is an excellent way to power your player up by getting
on fire.
o----------o
Blocking
o----------o
Whenever an opponent gets in close to your basket, park yourself under the
net, and prepare to jump as they attempt their slam dunk (try to time it so
you will be at the rim when the ball is at the rim). Quite often you will
reject the dunk, and possibly even get the ball back easily. Also try to
challenge any three pointer shots so you can maybe block it, or at least
cause it to clang off of the iron.
o-----------o
Jump Ball
o-----------o
To win the jump ball, just tap the jump button (B or A Button) to win
easily every time. If against a fellow human player, it will often go to
the one player with more height and blocking ability.
o------------o
Rebounding
o------------o
Try to time your jump so you will get to the rim just a split second after
the ball. If the ball hits any rim, and you are there, you will be able to
grab the loose ball before it has another shot at bouncing in. When you
land on the ground, and your opponent will be right there with you, tap
turbo (L or R Button), and you will throw elbows which will clear your
opposition out for you.
o---------o
Putback
o---------o
This move is pulled off in the offensive end, when you get a rebound, but
before you land. You have the ball, and there are no defenders to block
you, press a shoot button (B or A Button) to throw a lob at the net that is
almost guaranteed to go in. This is a great way to score off of a missed
jump shot (or an intercepted shot).
o-----------o
Dunk Dish
o-----------o
This should happen for two reasons:
i) you are going to be rejected at the rim by the defenders.
ii) your good three point shooting teammate has a wide open look.
This will not only stop a turnover, but it can also get you more points
than you were attempting in the first place!
o------------o
Head Fakes
o------------o
If you need to shoot a three, and your opponents are playing their defense
too tight for you to get a shot off. Well, what you do is tap shoot (B or A
Button), and you will pretend to start a shot, and your opponent will
probably leave the ground to block, meaning you can shoot on your second
pressing of shoot to take your real shot. Keep in mind this is not as good
as a wide open shot, but it will give you a decent chance of scoring when
compared to a possible block.
o---------------------o
On Fire Goaltending
o---------------------o
When you have achieved "on fire" status, you are given two great gifts:
infinite turbo, and the waiving of the goaltending rule! The best strategy
is to try to steal the ball in their end, but if they get to your end, fall
back to under your hoop, and block/catch anything they throw up at your net.
This means your fire will continue a little longer than if you played
conventional defense.
o---------------------o
Extending "On Fire"
o---------------------o
As you may already know, your "on fire" status only remains for as long as
you stop your opponent, or you score four baskets. Well, extending it
would be a great help for your defense (as explained in the last point), so
you should try to do so. To do this, try to feed your teammate the ball as
much as possible so they will score a few buckets, and you can continue to
play killer defense.
o-------------------o
Player Selections
o-------------------o
Find a team that has a well rounded player (controlled by the human player),
and at least one tall blocker. This way, your computer teammate will be
able to help out on defense a little more (since their AI is not that
great). This also means your teammate can dunk a little bit easier as well
on offense. The other option is to pick a great shooter you can dish to if
your dunk is going to be blocked.
o------------------o
Sitting A Player
o------------------o
You may want to sit your best player for the third quarter of a game,
especially if you have a good lead. Why do we do this you ask? Well, if
you do this, your best player enters the fourth quarter with no injuries,
which means you will have a much easier time scoring, which means your
opponents will have troubles catching up. A tie-in to this is that if you
can greatly injure their best player, he will be less effective in the
fourth (or they might have to sit that player out even).
o----------------------------o
End Of Quarter Goaltending
o----------------------------o
This is a great little trick to stop your opponent from making one of those
windmill long bomb shots at the end of a quarter (or even one for the win at
the end of the game). Whenever, there is about five seconds or less left,
run down the court (using turbo), and as the ball comes in at the hoop, jump
up and grab/swat the ball away to deny any chance of a score.
o---------------o
Run The Clock
o---------------o
It is the fourth quarter, and you hold a slight lead. Your priority should
be to keep the ball away from your opponents unbelievably accurate three
point shooting selves. The best way to do this is to just sit inactive in
your own end, and they will stand there watching you! They will charge you
eventually, and at that point throw a long bomb pass to your teammate,
getting the shot/dunk off before the shot clock expires. That way, instead
of scoring in about 8 seconds on a possession, you will score in about 24
seconds. This is a great way to keep the game lower scoring when you have a
weak line-up (lack of charismatic scorers on the floor).
o-------------o
Outlet Pass
o-------------o
If you grab a rebound, and you partner has taken off down court, do not be
afraid to risk a long pass to him so he will have an easy (possibly
uncontested) shot at the hoop. This is a great way to score "buckets" of
points (man I am so NOT funny!).
o---------------------------o
Stopping "On Fire" Status
o---------------------------o
If your opponent is "heating up" (one basket from being "on fire"), and they
shoot a wide open shot at the net, chances are it is going in. So they will
be "On Fire", right? Well, yes they might be, but you can stop them by
goaltending the shot. They still get the points, but they will remain in
the "heating up" status. You should score quickly to cancel their impending
"On Fire" chances.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------Enhancement Codes----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
9) This section will list all of the Enhancements Codes that can be entered
when you are not playing in Tournament Mode. Remember that these are
entered when the game is on the "Tonight's Match Up" screen. Also
remember you can enter as many codes as time allows. Some of them have
messages show up to say they are active, but not all will indicate they
have been toggled.
The following table will display the proper button to hit (avoid
confusion on directional pad entries, and the Button entries):
+---------------------+
Table Of Code Entries

B button - B
A Button - A
X Button - X
Y Button - Y
L Button - L
R Button - R
UP - u
DOWN - d
LEFT - l
RIGHT - r

+---------------------+
o-------------o
Dunk Better
o-------------o
Code: l, r, A, B, B, A
This code allows your dunk stat to be heightened, and so only the most
perfectly timed blocks will stop the dunk.
o----------------------------o
Increased Shooting Ability
o----------------------------o
Code: A, B, u, A, B, u, d
This increases your teams ability to shoot, causing your offense to be a
little better.
o-------------------------o
Display Shot Percentage
o-------------------------o
Code: u, u, d, d, B
This code will allow you to see what the percentage (out of 100%) you
have of making the shot you have just let fly.
o-----------------o
Easy 3 Pointers
o-----------------o
Code: u, d, l, r, l, d
This code will power-up your 3 point stat for every member of your team.
o----------------------------o
Increased Blocking Ability
o----------------------------o
Code: d, r, A, B, A, r, d
With this beauty of a code, your players become just that much better at
blocking the dunks of your opponents.
o----------------------------o
Increased Stealing Ability
o----------------------------o
Code: l, l, l, l, A, r
This will make your player have sticky fingers while on defense, and thusly
they will thieve the ball a lot more often.
o----------------o
Infinite Turbo
o----------------o
Code: B, B, B, A, d, d, u, l
This gives the player who entered it infinite turbo (but not their
teammate).
o---------------------o
Goaltending Allowed
o---------------------o
Code: r, u, d, r, d, u
When this code is put in, the player who entered it may goaltend to their
hearts content, and not be penalized by the points still being counted to
their opponents total.
o------------------o
Always "On Fire"
o------------------o
Code: d, r, r, B, A, l
When you enter this snazzy code, you will always be on fire regardless of
who score a basket. You also get the bonuses that go along with being
"on fire" (ie infinite turbo and goaltending is legal).
o--------------------------------------o
Push down one opponent and both fall
o--------------------------------------o
Code: u, u, u, u, l, l, l, l, A, A
This code will make it that if you push one opponent down, the teammate to
the fallen player will inexplicably fall as well.
o---------------------------------------o
Push Down Opponent and Teammate Falls
o---------------------------------------o
Code: u, u, u, u, l, l, l, l, A, B
This code is even stranger than the last because when you push your opponent
down, your teammate decides to take a dive as well.
o-------------------o
Rainbow Shot Mode
o-------------------o
Code: d, u, d, r, u, A, A, A, A, d
When this is entered in, you will find your shots will have an extreme arc
on them.
o---------------o
Slippery Mode
o---------------o
Code: A, A, A, A, A, r, r, r, r, r
The traction of the court with this code put in becomes much like a skating
rink.
o------------o
Speed Mode
o------------o
Code: u, u, u, u, l, l, l, l, B, A
With this code entered into play, you will notice a huge increase of the
game speed.
o-------------o
Strong Mode
o-------------o
Code: r, r, l, r, B, B, r
With this code put in, your players will be extremely hard to knock over,
steal the ball from, to dunk on, and to block.
o-----------------o
Super Dunk Mode
o-----------------o
Code: l, r, A, B, B, A
With this code on, your players will have the ability to dunk from anywhere
on the court, even their won end!
o---------------o
Teleport Mode
o---------------o
Code: u, r, r, l, l, A, d, l, l, r, B
With this code input, your passes will teleport instead of actually flying
between you and your teammate. The passes can still be picked off despite
the new way of travel however.
If anyone else knows any good codes, please send them to me, and I will
gladly add them in (after I test them to see if they work first). If any
of these codes do not work, please let me know so I can test them to be
sure (and if they do not, I will remove them and credit you for the heads
up).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

you are not playing in Tournament Mode.

A good one player game, and an excellent multiplayer romp. I highly
advise you to get four players in on the action to really get your blood
pumping, and to have a real fun time. There is nothing like a four
player game that comes down to the wire, where a buzzer beater is the
difference between winning and losing! Will they make the shot? Will
they get a shot? Will they lose the ball? Will they get the easy
bucket? These are the questions that will haunt you for the last few
seconds of the game until that buzzer sounds, and the ball goes down, or
goes out!
