version 0.4
Thanks to CJayC of gamefaqs.com for having a good request form,
otherwise i would have never thought of writing this. I was bored,
so I looked through the requests at gamefaqs, and saw this game listed
there. I remembered I still have this game, so I went and dug up the
cartridge from all the dust in my closet and tried playing it again.
Hopefully this will be somewhat of what whoever made the request was
looking for. Did that make any sense at all? Oh well.. I'm just doing
this because I was bored one day, and I like to help people.
11/14/99 - version 0.4 because I figure this is about 40% of what it'll
be when it's complete or something like that...
Table of contents
1. Basic Information (this is mostly from the instructions booklet
that came with the game. Yes, I do still have the original
instructions from so many years ago, and the booklet is in
near-perfect condition, believe it or not)
Controls
Notes (other stuff you should know)
Items
Types of Rooms
Monsters
2. Walkthrough (will be in a later update)
Stage 1: The Underworld Tower
Stage 2: The Overworld
Stage 3: The Sky World Tower
Stage 4: The Sky Palace
Basic Information
Controls
A button - jump, flap wings
B button - shoot arrow or swing hammer
Select - switch between bow and hammer
Start - pause game, go to item screen
left/right - move left or right
up - aim arrows up or climb up a ladder
down - crouch down on the ground or climb down a ladder
Notes
> At the beginning, you can't really fly (because your cute
little wings are too small) so flapping your wings will just
make you fall down slower.
> You can drop down through some floors or platforms if you
crouch down while standing on them. These include the "icy"
ledges that are a bit slippery to stand on, and the ones
that look kinda like they're made out of straw.
> Items that monsters have turned into will disappear after a
while, so if you wait too long, you might not get the item.
> The things that look like spiderwebs and the dark colored
water will hurt you if you touch them, so don't go through
them! The light colored water is a Hot Springs that will
recover your life energy, though if you ask me, it looks more
like a sandbox than a Hot Springs.
> When you press Start, the game will be paused. While the game
is paused, you can use the directional buttons to take a look
around. Pressing Start again will go to the item screen where
you can check what items you have. Press Start again to go
back to playing the game.
> On the title screen, Select button to choose between New Game
and Continue. Start Button to start the game.
> On the title screen, pressing left, Select and B buttons at
the same time will erase the saved game.
> You can only save the game at the end of each stage, after
your point score for that stage is calculated. At the bottom,
the Save option appears on the left and the Next option is
on the right. Press left to save, right to go on the next
stage without saving.
> The difference between Credit and Continue: Credits (which you
have 2 of) will let you keep all the items you have collected
in the current stage, and start you partway through the stage,
depending on how far you've already gotten. (Exceptions: the
Fortress stages and the Sky Palace stage 4) Continue loads the
saved game, which does not save the Credits when the game is
turned off.
> The horizontal scrolling stages play somewhat like a Mario game,
a map of the stage would be a large rectangle. The vertical
scrolling stages wrap around on the left and right, so it would
be like a cylinder with the map going around the outside of it.
If you keep going in one direction (left or right) without
moving vertically, you would eventually end up right back where
you started.
> During the game, pressing A, B, Start, and Select buttons all
at the same time will reset the game.
> Besides the regular point score, there are also Secret points,
which are not shown. There is no way to tell exactly how many
Secret points you have. Presumably you get Secret Points when
you find secret things, such as hidden doors or Palutena's key.
The Secret points determine whether you start the last stage
with all three Sacred Treasures or have to earn them one by
one in training rooms in the last stage.
> Did I forget anything?
Items
> Hearts - these are actually money in this game.
> Small Heart = 1 Heart
> Large Heart = 10 Hearts
> Half of a Large Heart = 5 Hearts
> Centurion - I call them statues because that's pretty much what
they are: squat statues. You can get items by smashing them with
hammers.
> Hammer - The Hammer is a consumable item. You can use it as a
weapon instead of the bow and arrows (press Select) and break
down walls and statues. One hammer is used up each time you smash
something with it, so try to have a lot of them. You'll need them
to find secret hidden doors, items, Palutena's key, etc.
> Water of Life - restores your life energy. The glasses are used
as soon as you touch them, while bottles can be stored for later.
> small glass - restores a little bit of life energy
> large glass - restores one full life block
> bottle - restores one full life block, is used automatically
when your life meter drops down to zero.
> barrel - allows you to store 8 bottles instead of just one.
but if you don't have any bottles, it's just an empty barrel
and does nothing.
> Harp - turns monsters into hammers. Hurry and grab as many as
you can before the effect wears off. Whoo, hammers are falling
from the sky!
> Feather - you can fly for a while. Flap your wings by pressing
the A button.
> Credit Card - You can use it in the Black Market to pay for an
item you want to buy, instead of using hearts.
> Key - opens one locked door. All doors are open when you first
start a stage (except for the one you just came through) and
they close behind you as you go through them. So this is useful
for going back into rooms that you've already been in, such as
treasure rooms, to get more stuff.
> Palutena's Key - a hidden key that opens all the locked doors in
a stage. It will only appear if you have already gone into every
room in the stage.
> Map - a map of the Fortress. Can only be found in Fortress stages.
> Torch - shows where your current location on the map is.
> Pencil - shows where you have been on the map.
Power-up items
> Life Block - At the end of each stage, if you have done well,
you may get an extra Life Block. You start with one and can
get up to five.
> Power Arrow - Increases your attack power. Sometimes, you will
get one when you enter certain rooms, just jump up and grab it.
You can get up to eight of these.
> Weapon Power-ups - you can choose one after you pass the test
in the training rooms.
> Fire Arrow - your arrows have fireballs on the tip. You
need at least 2 Life Blocks to use this.
> Long Bow - your arrows fly farther. You need at least 3
Life Blocks to use this.
> Protective Crystals - 2 crystals fly around you and protect
you like a shield. You need at least 4 Life Blocks to use it.
> Sacred Treasures - you get these by defeating the Fortress
Guardians, but you aren't allowed to actually use them until the
last stage.
> Wings of Pegasus - you can fly
> Silver Armor - half damage when hit
> Light Arrows - defeats almost everything with a single shot
Types of Rooms
> Information Center - In this room, a guy will give you hints.
> Bat Chamber - a room with bats in it. Shoot all the bats to turn
them into hearts and things like life water.
> Shop - you can use your hearts to buy things. Press down to see
if there are any other items besides the three currently shown.
When you see one that you want to buy, jump up and grab it.
Items for sale:
Water of Life
Hammer
Key
Torch
Pencil
> Black Market - like the shop, except you can use credit card and
try to haggle for a better price. Also, if a Sticky Talon steals
your weapon power-up, you can buy it back here.
Items for sale:
Water of Life
Water Barrel
Key
any weapon that was stolen from you
> Treasure Chamber - a room full of pots with ? on them. These are
treasure jars that you can break to get items. You need 5 hearts
for each jar. Be careful, as one of the jars may contain "the god
of poverty", a guy who kinda looks like the Reaper. If you find
him, all of the rest of the jars will disappear. However, if you
can break all of the jars without running into him, the last jar
will have a better item than the rest.
> Hot Springs - jump into the sandbox, erm, I mean Hot Springs, to
recover life energy.
> Totem room - this room also has a small Hot Springs, but there
will also be two ledges and Totem monsters falling from the
ceiling to block your way. It's easier to jump on the lower ledge
and just shoot arrows as fast as you can. This will take care of
all but two of the Totem monsters before they can do anything to
you. Then you can either drop down to the floor to shoot the last
two, or just jump over them to reach the Hot Springs.
> Hospital - The nurse here will cure you if you have got a curse
put on you. Come here to turn back to normal if you have been
turned into an eggplant, but since you are very small as an
eggplant with legs, you might want to explore a bit first to see
if there are any shortcuts you can squeeze through or find other
secrets first. Also, as an eggplant, you can't use the bow and
arrows anymore, but you can still use the hammer.
> Sacred Chamber - You can get a gift in this room: a Power Arrow.
Just jump up and grab it.
> Training Center - You will be tested with "intense training" as a
bunch of tiles go flying around the room. Once you shoot them all
down, you get to choose a weapon power-up.
Monsters
All Stages
> Bats - they fly around in the Bat Chamber
> Snakes - Snakes usually come in groups of 4, falling out of Snake
Pots which hang down from the ceiling.
> Spitball Blob - a blobby thing that pops up from the floor and
spits fireball-like things at you, sometimes from right under
your feet!
> Totem - looks like blocks with faces on them. They fall down from
the ceiling and stack up like a Totem Pole, sometimes spitting
fireballs at you.
> Grim Reaper and Reapettes - You know what the Reaper looks like,
right? Skull-faced guy in a black robe carrying a scythe. The
Reapettes are little skull-faced things with a blobby ghost-like
body that flies around. They'll come when the Reaper sees you and
the music changes.
Stage 1
> Cyclops Skull - a big skull with one eye socket that flies around.
> Wormser - kinda looks like a pillbug with a big eyeball. It crawls
around on the floor. When it ducks down, your arrows might miss.

Stage 2
> Cyclops Hopper - a grasshopper with one big eyeball and jumps around.
> Big Toe - a giant foot that falls from the sky to step on you.
> Sticky Talon - a bird with dark glasses who steals your weapon
power-ups and sells them to the Black Market.
> Gruff - kinda looks like a cactus.
> Globe - looks like a six-lobed blob that floats up and down.
Stage 3
> Komayto - looks like a cross between a jellyfish and an amoeba
floating in the sky.
> Octus - looks like a cross between an octopus and a jellyfish.
> Lunus - looks like a moon with a fang-face.
> Merc - a guy with a knife and a shield.
Stage 4

> Shadow Mask - a mask-like face that splits in two.

floor, then jumps back up to the ceiling every so often.
> Spunky - a jumping spider or daddy longlegs
> Fuzz Ball - a furry thing with one eye that flies around.
> Eggplant Wizard - a one-eyed eggplant wearing a robe and has a
magic staff to put a curse on you. (Why are there so many monsters
with only one eye in this game?)
> Stone Golem - a statue with an axe that starts moving when it sees you.
> Fireballs - a flame with eyes
Fortress Guardians
> Minotaur (Stage 1)
> Skull Wing (Stage 2)
