Kaeru no Tame ni is rated "F" for "Frog." It contains scenes of maladjusted
Mammoths and amphibian-hungry snakes. Player discretion is advised.
Reading about this game, I was instantly interested in playing it. Upon playing
it, I realized this is yet another game that never came out of Japan but should
have.
Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru, or "For the Frog the Bell Tolls," is an odd mix
of gameplay styles. It's an adventure game with RPG elements and automatic
battles. Essentially, you have to buff the main character up enough to survive
fights all the while unraveling the proper path to take. It's possible to beat
this game without knowledge of Japanese, hell I wrote this guide, but there are
some problem areas where I use a blanket solution - "Talk to everyone" for
instance as there's no way for me to know who to talk to specifically.
One thing that is interesting to note about the game is that the gameplay
mechanics were used to some degree in Link's Awakening. Of course, Zelda has
manual battles but this is an interesting relationship. Playing it, you will
see the similarities almost instantly (if you've played Link's Awakening) and
will note that some characters from Kaeru no Tame ni appear in that game as
well.
It's a compelling game, and very fun to try and figure out. It just kind of
makes me long for an English translation... because we'd get so much more out
of the game that way. And we already get plenty.
As I mentioned, the Gameplay in this game influenced Link's Awakening to a
degree. The overworld and sidescrolling sections have a very similar feeling.
But I digress, here are the controls:
Movement
--------
*Touch an enemy to begin fighting.
*touch an NPC to talk.
*Overworld:
Control Pad: Moves
A Button: Confirm
B Button: Cancel/put away item.
Start: Subscreen
*Side Scrolling:
Control Pad Left/Right: Moves
Control Pad Up/Down: Climb ladders.
A Button: Jump
B Button: Put item away
Up+A: High Jump
*Push towards an edge to grab it and pull up.
Battle
------
Battles are fought automatically, exchanging blows between the enemy and the
Prince. You can interrupt the battle with the B Button to be presented with
two options. The first is to run, and the second is to use an item.
Using an item requires you to scroll between them. A confirms, and there are
a few instances where you must use an item to win.
If you successfully run, you will be unable to touch an enemy for a few
seconds. Use this time to make your escape.
If you lose all of your hearts, you are taken to the Hospital of the last town
you were in. You lose no money or items.
Forms
-----
You can change form in this game, eventually being able to change into a Frog
and Snake. This applies only once you have earned the ability to change into
either. The forms are as follows:
*Prince: Your basic form and the greatest attack power. Medium (04) Jump. you
can always change into a Prince from another form using Fruit.
This is also the only form which can push blocks (with the proper item
that is).
*Frog: Once you are able to transform into a frog, your jump will become 08 and
this lets you reach areas the Prince and Snake cannot. You will also be
able to move underwater.
The frog cannot fight, but instantly kills enemies that are insects or
"bugs." So snails, beetles, scorpions, centipedes, etc are all fair game
and restore 1 heart/eaten enemy.
The frog can also talk to frogs and sneak past some folks who don't
see the frog as a threat.
Frogs are especially weak to Snakes.
*Snake: You can transform into a snake by eating an egg. This also heals one
heart. You can transform into a snake from the Frog or Prince.
The Snake has almost no jump, and must high jump to reach any height.
But they can lay down by pressing down and slither under narrow
passages. This lets you proceed into rooms where the others cannot.
The Snake has more fighting ability than the Frog, but not nearly as
much as the Prince. Some enemies bring up a dialogue, however, and you
can transform them into pushable blocks - necessary for some puzzles.
The Snake can talk to other snakes and pass by them without harm. It
can scare away some frogs.
Towns
-----
Towns let you talk to people and buy items. Items can be purchased in a store
for a price of coins. You earn coins by killing enemies.
These are the obstacles/objects you will encounter in the game.
*Chest: Open it for an item.
*Chain: Simple platform. Press down to drop through it.
*Clock: Some fire pendulums at you, which damage.
*Cloud: Simple platform. Press down to drop through it.
*Crumbled Block: Use the pick to break it.
*Dock: Lets you use the canoe once you've earned it.
*Enemies: Touch them to initiate battle. Combat is automatic.
*Fireball: Jumps up and down. Wait for the descent to pass.
*Fire Platform: Step on these when the fire subsides.
*Flip Door: One way door.
*Hanging bar: Jump up and grab to hang on. It will either follow a single
path or a looping path. Press down to drop.
*Healing Orb: Press up to fully heal. Reusable.
*Hole: On the overworld, leads to a section below.
*Ladders: Climb up or down these ladders. Two ladders placed side by side can
allow you to move between the two with left/right. Different types,
like vines, but all have the same quality.
*Lava: kills upon touch.
*Ledge: Hold against it to grab and climb.
*Locked Door: Can be opened with the proper key.
*Moving platform: Moves back and forth or up and down. Time your jumps.
*Narrow path: Half a space high, only the snake can pass.
*NPC: Non-player character. Touch them to speak.
*Partner: Character that follows you.
*Push Block: Can be pushed out of the way. Power Bracelets are needed for 1x1
and the Power Glove for 2x2.
*Sign: Gives some information.
*Smiley Platform: Drops when you step on it. Jump after you land.
*Snake Statue: Shoots fireballs at you.
*Spikes: Big spikes kill instantly. Small spikes damage. Spikes moving in and
out of a wall damage more.
*Tree: Some trees can be cut down with the saw item. These will often reveal a
hole or open a path.
*Water: In side scrolling areas, let's you transform into the frog.
*Well: Leads to a source of water.
*Well bucket: Jump inside and hold up to move it up.
I've broken the game into arbitrary chapters. Use this index to determine
where you are and where you should read:

KT14: Final Challenge
As the game starts out, you ware battling Richard, but this is story based and
you will not win - don't worry. After this brief introduction, a man will come
to talk to the two princes. The game will be starting at this point.
Richard is able to take the boat, but you are not. Once you gain control of the
Prince, head right onto the next screen. There is another boat here. Try to
enter it. You'll notice that the cost is immense. Regardless, you have no
choice but to pay for the boat.
Once you arrive at the village, head up and talk to everyone outside of their
houses. Just follow the path through the village, a kid will give you a small
health potion. You can enter the house and talk to him if you want, but you can
just continue through the north to the next screen.
The Old Man will give you the Diary - this lets you read entries by the Prince
and also save your game. So it's a valuable item. You can talk to the folks in
the Hospital, or head north into the woods.
The forest is occupied by slugs. You will take the righthand path, destroy the
slug in the way (but do not fight the other). On the next screen, you will
notice three slugs. Wait for them to move so you can sneak past them - if you
_must_ fight them, you can probably take two right now.\
Head down the ladder after the slugs. Talk to the old man, then take the left
chest for a Heart (increases Life meter) and the right chest for an upgraded
sword (increases Power by 2). Leave the pit, you can now destroy slugs in a
single hit.
From the left of the first screen, there is an orb - talking to these fully
restore HP. But where you need to head is straight up. Fight that guard and
you will win with your upgrades.
Head up and grab the map. This can be used from your subscreen. There will be
an earthquake presently. Just head up.
When you see the Castle, head on in. You'll meet a guy who will soon thereafter
exit. Head right yourself until you see a guard, fight him and you can heal
afterwards at the orb.
Head to the right, fight both guards, then head back and heal at the orb again.
After you have healed, return to the right and take the chest. This contains a
star, which increases Power by 1. Three guards immediately run up to you - you
only have to kill one of them however. If you have healed, this will be a non-
issue. You cannot head any further to the right because water is currently very
dangerous to you...
Instead, head back to the start of the castle. Head left and climb up the three
ladders. Head all the way right until you hit a wall. Turn and hold up. This
will increase the height of your jump. So, high jump up and grab the ledge.
Attack the black-helmeted soldier here. If you grabbed the power upgrade, you
will be able to do him in. Head all the way left, up the ladder, and flip the
switch. This finishes the bridge to the second village.
Now, you can either heal at the orb before you head out. But head out when you
are ready.
You will be returning to the Castle, so don't worry about the treasures behind
the marked doors - you get those keys later. Instead, head right across the
bridge now that you have completed it. You'll notice that same guy from the
Castle is sneaking towards the village...
Enter the village and the people will scatter. Head through the village - no
one is home... However, there is someone in the shop. That same guy, and he
will steal your money. Pursue him into the house next to the shop.
You'll be knocked out and left in the Hospital with no money. Take the time to
speak to everyone in the town, then head out. We are going to raise a few
funds.
Head right from the village, enter the ladder and talk to the man. Leave and
head down. The beetles here will take one heart off you and you will need to
hit them twice to kill them. They will either drop 15 coins or a heart
(refills one heart) fight these guys until you have a decent amount of cash.
You want at least 160, for a shield and a pack of saw uses. 220 if you want to
max out the saw, but that many uses aren't necessary at the moment.
By the way, a small potion costs 25 coins if you have already used yours. The
doctor in any hospital heals at 2 coins/heart and you can indicate the number
of hearts you want refilled. Factor any of those costs into your purchasing as
well, though there is an orb under a tree down here, after you purchase some
saws.
Okay, let's say you get your coins between the first two screens of beetles.
Return to the village and buy your gear, then head back down into the forest...
Return to the forest and enter onto the first screen with beetles. Talk to the
old man down the ladder. Head to the screen to the left. Use a saw on the tree
in the top left corner to open up a ladder pit. Descend the ladder. The chest
down here has another Heart upgrade.
Head down a screen where the Spiny beetles are. Fight some and cut down the
tree on the right - just for a convenient path later. Head to the right. There
is a black tree here - you cannot compete with this now, it is a Treant and
is an enemy you will battle shortly. But we have to find the upgrades around
here first. Instead, cut down the upper left tree to reveal a ladder. There is
a healing orb down here, remember to use it after the Treant.
Head left, then down again. Head down the pit and grab the chest for 50 coins.
Head to the right and cut down the lone tree. There is an old man and a chest
down here. The half moon in the chest increases your speed by 1. Alright, we
are ready to fight the Treant.
Return to its screen and use the healing orb in the hole first. Cut down both
trees around the enemy and then attack it. You should just kill it. Head down
the ladder when you do and heal.
Head right through the path the Treant was blocking. You'll notice there are a
lot of them on this next screen - you will not be fighting them. They move
around the rocks in a path - now pay attention to distance. The three around
either formation are tight together, with a long space between the two end
Treants. That is:
X Where X are the Treants and R are Rocks. You will notice that there is
R a long, unbroken space on the left, between the top X and bottom X.
RX Occupy that space yourself. Going between the Treants will most likely
R force you into battle.
R
X
So, do the same for the second set and head off the path on the right of the
screen. Head up on this next screen. Alright, there is a man and a sign post.
The sign posts basically says:
North East North West North
1 1 2 3 1
These numbers indicate how many times you take the direction at that step in
the procedure. So, head up onto the first screen - there are Spiny beetles here
and every screen will look like this.
So head North 1 screen, East (right) 1 screen, North 2 screens, West (left) 3
screens, then North 1 more screen. You should arrive at a tree.
Head up to the tree and you will take a Strange Fruit. After a short scene, a
Vulture will attack you. You do not have to worry about your HP - you didn't
have to upgrade for this fight. Chase the Vulture through the woods until you
come to a Skull. Enter it, it's the witch's hut.
You will receive a potion, drink it then leave the hut automatically. The guy
who stole your money will jump down the well, you dive in after him and fall
into the water. Well you get the money back, anyways =)... but you're a frog.
Head left underwater. Frogs have 08 jump so they can reach much greater heights
than the Prince's 04. You'll grab a chest with another heart. When you reach
the bucket at the end of the well jump in and hold up. You will leave through a
well at the second village.
Remember how there was a large stretch of water in the Castle? Well, that's
where we are going now. Head to the Castle and enter it.
The frog who has been following you will stay at the entrance. That's fine, you
are capable enough on your own. Head to the right until you come to the large
body of water, jump on in.
Talk to the frog on the next screen, then high jump up to the ledge. Grab on,
and continue to the right. The diamond door down there cannot be passed, so
instead head under that flip door and jump up on the chain, then jump up to the
next screen.
Keep jumping up, talk to the frog, then continue to the right. If you fall here
you will land at the bottom with some spiny beetles. These will die instantly
when they touch the frog. They are bugs, and the frog eats them. They also heal
one heart per kill, and that is common amongst all insect/bug enemies.
Anyways, you have to head onto the platform that is moving back and forth. Jump
onto it, then onto the ledge on the right - continue onto the next screen to
the right. Jump onto the higher moving platform and duck under the ceiling.
Stand up when the space is clear and jump up onto the highest ledge. Take the
ladder up to the next screen.
Head up the two smiley platforms, which drop under your weight. Just make it to
the upper ledge and head off to the left. Avoid the bouncing ball, drop off to
the smiley platform to the left and immediately jump up to the upper left ledge
and continue on.
Talk to the frog then drop down the chains to the bottom. You just have to
stand on one and press down to drop past it. At the bottom, head left.
Continue left past the guard and talk to the frog. Take the middle ledge left
and head up the chain platforms.
Rather than any of the ledges, head up onto the chain platform, then up to the
next screen. Take the top ledge, head out past the flip door then down and left
through the next flip door. Head down the ladder.
Head right, talk to the frog, and continue right. At the two smiley platforms,
jump across them before they plummet. Keep jumping up the chains until you come
to the frog. Talk to him, then head right into the next room. Take the upper
ledge in this room, and go through the flip door. Head off into the room to the
right.
This is a soldier's quarters. Talk to all three a couple of times, move around
and talk to the soldier on the right until they leave the room. I am not sure
of the catalyst here folks, sorry, so just talk to them and linger until they
leave. If anyone knows for sure, drop me a line. Regardless, when they leave
you can take the Diamond Key from that chest.
Head down, drop down to the bottom and start heading back towards the start of
the castle. There will be a flip door blocking you, but an unopened Diamond
door. Open it, and head down the ladder here.
Follow the path along until you come to the screen with the frog on the central
platform. Talk to it, then jump onto middle ledge. Stay on the middle path on
the next screen to the left and head past the flip door on the left. On the
next screen, head past the first flip door on the left. Jump over the one
leading down and jump up through the door on the ceiling - you will need to use
a high jump to do it.
Head to the left, talk to the frog and open the diamond door. Head through the
upper path when you're ready, however. Avoid the balls as you jump left. Jump
to the upper left platform with the Diamond Door when you reach it and head
down. When you reach the bottom head right until the wall, and high jump up out
of the water.
Up here in the chest is a Star, increase your Power and keep on going. In the
room with three balls, climb up the ladder. Jump across the smiley platforms
on the next screen and make a long jump off the second to reach the platform on
the screen to the right. Head to the right and use the moving platform to reach
the far right wall. If you fall down before this, you can get back up by
jumping on the frog's back then high jumping up. Regardless, high jump on top
of the wall and head right.
Jump across here and talk to the frog. Then, head right. Head all the way to
the right, then left. Head right until you see a frog, head right and jump up
on the next screen. The treasure chest up here provides another Heart upgrade.
You can take the upper diamond door to talk to a frog, the lower to continue.
Keeping on our course, jump into the water. Head right and take all of the
ladders up. Take the diamond door right then drop down past the chain. Talk to
the frog at the bottom, then head left through the Diamond Door. Up the steps
and drop down, take the chest for the Warp Door.
Use it to return to the entrance of the Castle. The Warp Door brings you to the
entrance of dungeons when used inside, and to the last village you visited when
used outside - very useful item.
You can't go back and open other Diamond Doors because the frog is now blocking
you. Instead, we will conclude this chapter by heading to the second village,
and returning to the Witch's hut via the well. Talk to her and for some potion
she will take all of your money. Bummer. Nothing happens when you use it? Major
bummer, thummer down!
Okay, so the potion didn't work? Well, you're a frog so then you need to
consider where a frog can go. There is a cave to the west of the castle, and
there is a body of water there. So, head back through the well, then west of
the castle, over the bridge, talk to the frog in the way, and head down the
ladder.
Head into the water, left, and then jump up onto the ledge. Keep on heading up
and you will exit the pit. For now, since you cannot use saws or the like, head
down, right, down, down, left, up, left.
The Snake in front of the village will attack you, accept the attack and you
will be knocked out - this is supposed to happen. After a short scene, you wake
up as a human with the Witch and Vulture. She gives you a strange fruit - these
let you return to human form from a transformation.
You will want to buy some things in the village - a shield, some eggs, and some
Strange Fruit. However, you have no money - so leave for the time being and
head back to the right. You have free reign there now - but don't fight the
bees yet. They will work the Prince over, even though the frog could eat them.
The shield is 200 coins, and you will want at least 5 Eggs and Fruit. Eggs are
50 coins/a piece and Fruit are 5 coins. I like to keep a large stock of them,
you don't really need to but it's helpful. Buy as many as you think you'll
need. Eggs will allow for the Snake form... There are saws here too, but you
should already have them.
Head right from the village entrance, then down, and right. Saw open that tree
and head down the ladder. There is 100 coins in the chest down here, combined
with the coins from Spiny beetles, you will quickly have enough for your item
stock.
Keep between these two bottom areas and destroy the Spiny beetles until you are
pleased with your amount of money. Buy the items as discussed earlier, and as
you head back to the village, cut the tree leading up so you can easily bypass
the bees if you have to later.
By the way - the hot springs in the village heal you just by staying in them.
So, use the springs to heal. Buy your gear, then head to the left of the
village. Use one of the eggs to transform into the Snake and you will be able
to pass snakes without them attacking you. Keep on past the snakes until you
arrive at a cave.
Staying as the snake, hold down to lay on your gut. You can go through that
narrow passage to the left like this. Keep on your gut and to the left until
you get the treasure chest. There's an egg in here. Head right until the first
opening and stand up. Face the left wall and move into it to bring yourself up
onto the ledge. Duck through the passage to the left, then climb the stairs to
the right.
Head up to the screen with the slug and slither through the passage to the
right. Talk to the slug and choose the first option. Climb onto the block the
slug turned into, face left and high jump onto the ledge. Grab the chest for a
fruit. Head through to the left, drop down, use the fruit, and fight the snake.
If you picked up the new shield, you will be able to take it. The chest gives
you a heart upgrade, and there is a health orb besides.
Head up, kill the slug, high jump up, kill the next slug. Eat an egg, and
slither through the next two passages to the left. Drop into the water to
transform into the frog. High jump up through the narrow hole and through the
flip door. Run from the bat - you will not win. Climb the ladder and leave the
cave. Stay as a frog.
Stay as a frog for now, there's a lot of insect type enemies coming up. Head
up and there will be Spike Snails. Even as a frog you can only harm them when
their body is outside of their shells. Ah well, just take your time.
Head right at the bees, then down the righthand path (paths on the bottom, take
the path on the right in other words). Head right until you come to a
crossroads. Head right, up, and left to reach another village. Enter it. Eat a
fruit and resume your human form.
Talk to the folks in the village, we will call this the Port village, due to
the port (unavailable for a while). Anyways, head into the broken looking
building. Talk to the man in here next to the bell. After a conversation,
someone else will arrive. Talk to both again and leave.
The store here sells Eggs, Potion, Fruit, and Saws. If you want more of any of
them, they're available. Leave the village and right and down. There is a guy
in front of a ladder, talk to him. Answer the first response to his question
and you'll be back at the second village. It is crawling with soldiers...
There's no real point in fighting them unless they get in your way. Head to the
left side of town and then up to the upper left portion of town. Okay, kill the
guard standing in front of the house and then enter it. Defeat one of the
soldiers around the old man and the rest will flee. Talk to him.
Watch the scene, and the frog with the eye patch will give you the Power
Bracelets. These let you push some blocks that are 1x1 in size. This will let
you progress through a different section of the Castle but let's get a few
treasures first.
Head down at the Castle, transform back into the Prince. Head down three
screens and saw down the tree. Saw the next tree. Push the block in front of
you left 1, then up 1. You will enter the ladder. There's a treasure here.
300 coins? You're ecstatic!
Enter the Castle and head to the right. Climb the ladders to find two diamond
doors. The treasures in this room are two fruit and two eggs.
Afterwards, head to the left of the door. There's a block here, head over to it
and push it to the left. This opens up a new section of the Castle. There are
two blocks on the next screen to the left. Push both of them to the left and
drop down past the chains.
There's a healing orb down here, use it if you need to and then eat an Egg. As
a Snake, head under the narrow passage in the lower left. On the next screen,
head up to the slug and turn it into a block. Climb up over it and then into
the next narrow passage.
Shift the next slug into a block and head up over the ledge and under the
passage. Head off to the left, and change back into the Prince. Push both
blocks into the lava and use them as a platform to jump to the next ledge on
the left. There are moving platforms on the next screen, jump on the first and
try to jump on the second either while it is high or rising. Jump soon to the
left before it descends into the lava.
Alright, jump onto the platform when it is moving up and then onto the ledge to
the left. When both of those spikes are rising, run under them. Head down the
ladder and pass the two sets of spikes in the same manner. Do the same with the
two sets of spikes on the next screen, then drop into the water to transform
into a frog.
Take the passage to the left (on the lower half of the screen). Drop down the
chains here and you'll land on some smiley platforms. Jump over to the left
right away - after all they will be falling and the lava is not a nice dip.
Climb the ladder to the left and take the fruit from the treasure chest. Go
back down the ladder and jump onto the smiley platforms and again to the right.
Okay, there's a load of spikes in here and two moving platforms. Step onto the
first platform and jump up onto platform. Drop down onto the next platform as
it starts to the right. Step onto the next ledge on the right but be careful
not to jump to far if you jump - there's more lava coming up.
Jump onto the left platform as it moves down and the right as it moves up. If
you hit the spikes - relax, it's better than hitting the lava. Jump over to the
next ledge on the right. On the next screen, drop into the water. Jump up
through the middle when the spikes raise and continue through to the right.
Head down the ladder and transform back into the Prince.
Push the bottom block left half a space - just half, so it is hanging out over
the lava. Push the top block left one space so it lands on top of the other
block. Now, step onto the block and jump left to the upper left ledge.
+--+ This is a diagram of how you should place the blocks.

On the next screen, run across as the fireballs are dropping down. They will
not be in the same place when they jump back up, so just keep moving. The next
screen has a fireball jumping from left to right. Let it jump, then jump
yourself onto the middle platform. Let the fireball pass again, then leap over
to the left platform and continue on.
There's one more screen like this. Let the fireball jump, then leap to the
middle platform. This time, make sure to duck until it passes then jump to the
left and head down the chain platforms.
Wait on the chain until the platform is about to pass under and drop down,
landing on the moving platform. Jump on the central platform as you move to the
right and step onto the platform as it passes out from under the central. Jump
onto the righthand ledge and head into the next screen.
Watch out for the fireballs and jump up onto the next level of chain platforms.
Check the healing orb if you're hurt, then drop down at the right and continue
through to the next screen. Over here, jump across to the ledge and let the
fireballs descend. Drop right to the next, run right and high jump up onto the
wall. Proceed to the right.
The chest you will encounter has a Heart upgrade. Eat and egg and slither in
with the Snake. Transform back to the Prince and kill the snake, then drop
into the water. As a frog, head right through the flip door. Right again, then
up. You can use the healing orb, then jump onto the left skull and back up.
Head up the chains at the upper left of the screen.
You will come to some moving platforms, just keep going but beware the bat
which you will encounter when you continue up. Head right and high jump up on
top of the chains. The bat should be below you so just head right. Walk across
the chain to the next screen and keep going until you're above the rightmost
hole. Drop from the chain and into the hole, avoiding the bats.
Drop down past the chains and down the ladder. Change into a Snake and
transform the slug into a block. Jump into the water to change back to a frog
and high jump off the block to the upper right ledge. Continue to the right.
If you needed an egg, the hole in that water leads down to a chest with an egg.
Either way, high jumping off the block is the way to continue.
There's a diamond door to the far right, open it and proceed. Watch the scene
and head down the ladder. Transform into a snake down here, and head down the
ladders to the bottom. Duck down and enter the small door; follow the small
passage through once inside, and through the next little door. Drop into the
water once outside.
As a frog, head left. Use the moving platforms to reach the ladder in the
upper left corner. Mind the fish, you won't do well as a frog fighting. Climb
the ladder, then jump onto the platform the spike ball is attached to. The
chain will just go through you. When the ball is to the left, pass the screen
to the right.
On the next screen, jump up to the ladder and head left to get an Egg from the
chest. Head back to the right; jump onto the platform the chain is attached to
and right into the hole in the wall. Proceed.
Turn into a Snake here, there are three of the small doors here. Head through
the middle door and through the passage to find a chest with a fruit. Return
to the fork and take the top passage to proceed. You will again be faced with
three doors. The bottom passage leads to a chest with an Egg. The top leads to
a chest with a small potion. Take the middle passage to proceed.
Dive into the water when the fish is away from you. Jump back out and jump over
to the right. Leap across the smiley platforms to the right. Take short leaps
so as not to hit the ceiling spikes. Head through the right and heal at the orb
if you must. Climb up the ladders to the next screen.
Transform to the Prince and push the block to right. Open the diamond door and
head on through. There are six chests in here...
M M This is the formation of chests where S is a sword and all
of the M's are Mimics. If you plan on fighting the Mimics,
M S grab the sword first so as to reduce damage. If you fight,
heal at the orb outside before proceeding through the Snake
M M door.
Once you are back outside, eat an Egg and enter the Snake door. Follow it
through and climb the ladder for a fruit in the chest. Use it and drop down the
chain and flip door. Fight the guard with the large black helmet. Choose the
second choice to fight him, if you have a Power of 08, you should defeat him
with one HP left. He drops the Heart key.
Enter through the Heart Door and press on the gate to open the cage. You will
be presently outside of the castle. The other doors in there are spade and club
doors, so you may as well go heal and prepare for the next section of the game.
Return to the second village to heal and change into a frog via the well. There
are four bees to the left of the castle and fighting all of them as the Prince
is not the best idea. So just eat them as the frog, problem solved.
Return to the Port Town from earlier, as the port is now active. As you head
there, talk to the guy in front of the ladder. He'll move and you can enter
down there for a chest containing a star, raising your Power to 09.
Alright, since you're here - return to the fork and head down. Cut your way to
the ladder and talk to the guy inside. You'll be returning here.
Once in the Port Town, head to the upper left corner of town and enter the new
building that is here. Talk first to the man inside, then the guy outside to
ride the boat. If you can't get on it right away, try talking to the people in
town again. The path of the boat is fairly obvious.
When you land on the island, head straight up. Enter the building, and head up
to the right past the receptionist. There is a store on the right which sells a
new shield at 300 coins. Buy it, and make sure you have 100 coins available to
complete this quest. The octopi on the island are pretty standard enemies to
fight if you need the coins. The horse radish for sale are not yet available.
Alright, head left from that shop and head up to talk to the receptionist.
Answer the first response, then the second, then the second, then the first.
This should drive the cost up to 100 coins. Head up once you pay up the money.
Head up between the two small walls and the chef will talk to you. Head to the
right and you will see a table. Sit at the empty spot in the table and the old
man will talk to you. Answer the second option, the second option, the first
option.
You will be able access another dungeon now. Follow the path: Head to the beach
and go left. Enter the hole and go on through to the other side. Take the hole
near the bottom of the screen. When you are at the other side, enter the
ladder. There is an old man to talk to, and a star in the chest bringing your
Power to 10. Head to the screen on the right and make your way through the
hole. Talk to the girl here, and if you did the right thing at the Nantendo
building she will let you through.
Continue through the path and you will enter a new dungeon. You can either jump
over the hedgehog or attack when it is not rolling. Climb the vines at the end
and pass the hedgehog to the left on the next screen. Kill the spiders and head
up the upper right vine.
Run on this screen all the way left. Pass the hedgehog on the next screen, and
head down the vine past the spitting flower. Down here, take the platforms over
the hedgehog. You should be strong enough as the Prince to destroy the bats
upon touching them. Head through the passage at the lower right, then down the
ladder.
Drop all the way down and become a frog in the water, follow the path around
and head left to the next screen. Avoid the fish as you head left until you get
an egg from the treasure. If you need a health refill, leave and enter the room
with the slugs and eat them until you are at the max HP.
*If you needed an egg, at the far left of the water is an egg in a chest.
In the slug room, enter the next screen up from the upper right. Let the
flowers spit and jump across the smiley platforms to the upper left. Just walk
left across the lateral vine to pass it. Now, change into a snake.
Make both of the slugs transform into blocks. Alright, switch to the Prince.
Push the bottom slug block left 2.5 spaces so that it hangs over the little
pit. Push the top slug block on top of this and you will be able to jump to the
upper left ledge. Here's a pic:

Pit
Through to the left is a chest containing a Heart upgrade. Head up the vine to
left, kill the hedgehog up there and head right. Climb up the vine and
transform into a snake. Let the bat fly down to touch you and turn it into a
block. Push the block onto the spikes - it won't fall in. You can push it half
a space farther and then jump onto it. Jump to the ledge to the right and take
the vines over to the slug. Kill it and head up to the next screen.
Turn into a Snake and change the slug into a block. Revert to the Prince and
high jump up to the chest. It's a small potion, so use one before you get it.
Pass the spider and head through to the next screen on the left.
Jump to the central platform here and climb up the ledge. Take the money from
the chest and jump over to the left. Pass the hedgehog and descend the vine.
The pit to the left leads to a healing orb, take the middle path to continue
towards the end.
At the bottom you will see a soldier, who will soon call a large centipede. It
is very important that you attack the last segment only - the tip of his tail.
If you get hit prior to this, heal yourself before you engage the tip. It will
take you down to 1 heart at your current strength so you need full health.
When you have killed it, you will be taken back to the Nantendo building. Watch
the scene and you will earn the Power Glove, which will let you push 2x2 blocks
out of the way.
You can also buy horse radishes at the store - but you never _need_ to use them
through the game. Still, if you want some just in case, go ahead and buy a few.
Head back to the Port Town, and heal up. Head outside and return to the fork.
Talk to the man in the area south of the fork, you can now buy big potions at
any shop previously selling small potions.
Alright, so we have some supplies and want to proceed. No problem, head back to
the Port Town and then right from the entrance. Head up from the area with the
sign post and you will be able to push that 2x2 block out of the way with your
Power Glove.
To the North is a land of snow and ice where you will not be able to transform
into a frog or snake. They are cold blooded, I suppose. The wolves you will
encounter are fairly standard enemies and should provide money if you need it.
The bears that slide at you are much more dangerous and should be avoided if
possible.
Head east until you reach the igloo village. This is an Inuit styled village.
Talk to everyone here, and then head into the store. There are two screens here
to check out - make sure you go to the screen on the right and talk to the man
here. You'll gain 100 coins via the exchange, and then you should head out of
the village for now.
*If you head onto the Ice south of the village and then left, you will find a
tree. Cutting it down leads to a chest with a big potion. Collect it and then
return to the igloo village entrance for the next step.
From the village head left, left, left, up, left. Cut the tree and get the 100
coins from the chest. Head up one screen. Cut the tree and heal at the orb. Go
up, right and cut the tree. Grab the moon in the chest and your speed will
increase to 03.
Head up, and out onto the ice. Avoid the bears as best you can (some are right
in the way, however) and head left, left, left. Talk to the frog. Head down and
cut the tree, move the block.
Return to the ice village. Talk to everyone in the village and read the sign
boards until you continue to receive the same messages. Leave the village again
and head left, left, and up.
Make your way into the cave at the end of this path - avoid the bird en
route if possible. Once inside, read the sign inside the cave and then leave.
Return to the village.
Talk to/Read everything until the message repeats once more. Return to the Frog
outside the building out on the ice, the same one from three paragraphs ago.
Remember that you cut down a tree - you _should_ take that path back to the
Frog - skipping the bars. Talking to the frog should bring more than one box of
dialogue. If it doesn't, repeat the previous steps and try again...
Anyways, if you had a new message from the frog (after the usual) return to the
igloo village. Enter the store - the shop keeper is gone. Talk to the man on
the screen to the right. Leave the village.
Head down around the village - down, right, up, up to arrive in the area with
many Treants. At this point in the game, they're pretty weak. So don't be too
concerned with surviving them - the bears are a bigger threat by far.
Regardless, take a left on the first screen of this area. Down the ladder on
the next screen is a chest containing a Heart upgrade. Exit the hole and kill
the Treant blocking the way up. Head up. The ladder up here leads to a chest
with 50 coins. Collect them, then kill the Treant to the right and continue
along. Either kill or avoid the Treants here, then continue right.
Avoid the bears, then head downwards. The ladder here leads to 50 coins.
Collect them and return to the next screen up. Avoid the bears, kill the Treant
and continue north. The ladder here leads to a big potion - if you are planning
to take it remember to drink any you already have first. Get past the Treants
and head left. Either kill or pass the Treants on this screen and head up once
again. Enter the ladder at the end of the path. Talk to the shopkeeper inside
and watch the scene that ensues.
You will be taken back to the village and will confront the man who has been
residing in the right half of the store. If you've been following the guide so
far you will beat him with one heart remaining. The shopkeep will reward you
with a Frog Helmet which lets you talk to frogs even as a human. I'm sure there
is somewhere you can use that...
And you should know that you must return to the Frog out on the ice. Again,
take the path with the block that you opened up initially. Talk to the frog and
it will enter the building. Follow it immediately before it comes back out.
Once inside, talk to the old man. Keep talking to him as he moves around until
he asks a question. Choose the first option, then you’re good to go.
Return to the Ice Cave where you read the sign. You will stomp up and down and
this will reveal a new path for the Prince to proceed.
Jump onto the platform that appears and ride it right. Jump up to the ledge and
continue right. On this screen, drop down to the lowest ledge and jump right to
grab the next ledge. There are two ladder steps after the ledge panel. Walk
down these to reach the chest, which provides 50 coins. Use the ladders to
reach the next screen up.
You are strong enough to kill bats instantly. Jump across to the left and
head up the ladder. Head all the way up in this room. In the next room, jump
across left and grab the chest for 100 coins. On the next screen right is a
mammoth frozen in a block of ice (you cannot do anything to it yet) and a mimic
(fight it if you want).
You'll need to high jump up to the ledge on the next screen. Turn and jump to
the treasure chest for 50 coins. Jump right across the spikes and head down the
sets of ladders. Head right down here. In the room with the bats, jump right
two platforms, turn left and high jump up to the platform northwest of you and
then jump right across to the next platform. Continue to the right. You will
leave the Ice Cave...
Leaving the Ice Cave, you will enter a Desert area. For now, make your way down
2 and right 1 to the Town. Talk to everyone in town, as always. You will also
need to make some purchases. The store has Eggs, Fruit, Horse radish, and Picks
which let you dig in certain squares of the game. Max out your picks (32) for
the time being. You will need fruit, but not so much eggs. Still, it never
hurts to have a healthy supply.
The drink you can buy at the bar restores a decent amount of life, but only use
it if you are really hurting. The doctor does just fine for small hits. Once
you have talked to everyone, leave town.
From the entrance head right, right, down, right, down, right, down, down. You
should arrive at a well. Transform into a frog inside the well and exit it. As
a frog, from the entrance, head up, up, up, up, left, left, left. As a frog you
can eat Scorpions and Centipedes. You should arrive at the right end of the
town.
At the right side of the town, head up into the mountains. So, from this
starting screen head up, right, right, and up. You should see a lone soldier.
They cannot harm you as a frog - that is, they won't attack. Birds can and will
attack you, however, so run if you encounter them. From this guard, head left,
left, left, up, and enter the tunnel.
Talk to the frog in the tunnel and continue along your way, staying as a Frog
yourself. At the other side of the tunnel, you should head right, up, right,
down, right, up, left, up, left. Enter the cave here. The soldiers will talk,
but you enter regardless. Once inside, transform back to the Prince.
In the cave, start from the top and talk to everyone and use the pick on any
crumbled panels. You can swing a pick with A and put it away with B. The
treasures are 50 coins, and 100 coins. Talk to everyone until they have no
more messages then leave the Mine. Use the warp door to return to the Desert
Town.
Once in town, talk to everyone and read every sign before you enter the bar.
Make sure they start repeating messages. Then, talk to everyone in the bar.
Then, read the sign on the entrance screen of the town. Next, head to the
house in the upper left of the town and talk to the woman here.
Return to the bar and talk to the big guy in the white clothes. Answer the
second response to his first question, the second response to the second
question, second response to the third question, the first response to his
fourth question, and the first response to the fifth and you will fight him. If
you have full health you will win with one heart left.
Heal and then head to the entrance of town and talk to the big guy in the white
clothes. He will join you along with three other men. When you attack an enemy
like this, they will all jump and attack the enemy. They will defeat it and you
will not have to fight. With these guys in tow, return to the Mine. After a
little scene at the entrance, you'll be inside.
Head to the bottom of the mine, and the guys will break through the wall. Head
on through. You will need 200 coins for the next section... Talk to the big
guy, then head up the ladders. There are three areas to pick through here.
Start from the bottom. The bottom path leads to a chest with 100 coins. The
middle leads to a chest with a fruit. The top path leads to a ladder which lets
you proceed.
The first chest up here has a set of picks. Head to the top and drop off the
righthand side and hold to the left to catch the lower edge as you fall. Pick
the wall and grab the chest for a star, increasing your power by 1. Return to
your crew and pay them 200 coins. They will break through to the next section.
There are three paths left, all can proceed but each has a chest (all of which
you can get). The chest on top has a 50 coin bag, the middle has a 50 coin bag
and the bottom has a third 50 coin bag. Talking to the big guy again pays out
the money. Head up.
Pick your way all the way through to the left, up the ladder and head right.
You will come to a chest with 100 coins, take it and head up the ladder. There
are three paths to pick through up here. The bottom leads to a chest with some
picks. The middle leads to 50 coins. To access the top path, transform into a
Snake to scare away the Frog. Then pick through. There will be a Heart upgrade
across the stairs. Drop down and hold left to reach a chest with an Egg (you
will have to pick in to get it).
Return to the men when you are ready and they will bust through. Three paths
again, each with a chest. Again, they are all 50 coin bags. Head left and pay
the men 400 coins. Head up the ladders.
Go left and go down the first ladder you come to on the screen with two slugs.
Head right, picking the blocks as you go. The bag you will get from the chest
is worth 300 coins. Head back and get the chest in the slug room: a mimic that
will drop 50 coins.
Head up the ladder, then up the stairs. Pick your way through the top path.
Drop off the edge to the right and hold left. The chest will contain 300 coins.
Hold left again as you drop and pick your way through/fight the snail to find a
chest containing the Slab. You can read the slab for a message any time you
want by selecting it on the subscreen.
Return to the men. There will be another three open paths - each one with a 50
coin bag in a chest. Collect the money and continue along. Talk tot he bug guy
and pay them 800 coins. One path will open - enter it.
There is a sword in here - take it and the whole mountain will start to rumble.
Watch the resulting scene and you will be taken back to the ice world. It seems
a large chunk of gold has washed up on shore and the mammoth in the Ice Cave
has defrosted. Well then. The mammoth seems to be rampaging in the Igloo
Village...
Watch the scene with the Mammoth, the old man will be taken out and you will
end up in the Hospital. Talk to the old man and then leave the igloo village -
don't try fighting the Mammoth.
Head into the Ice Cave and go to where the Mammoth was frozen. Head down the
ladder here. Head left down the stairs, as to the right is a mimic and you can
now defeat them instantly - knocking them off the screen without any loot. So
go off to the left of the screen and open the chest here for 100 coins. Return
to the right and climb down the ladder.
You should be able to defeat the bear here in two attacks. Venture down the
ladder once it is vanquished. Let the bear down here move right, then drop
down and jump up to the platform. Have the bear move left then jump down to the
right and high jump up to the ledge. Leap across all of the platforms on the
next screen and off to the next screen to the right.
Jump across the moving platforms here, jump onto them when they are low. Just
take your time - the platforms won't go into the spikes, just above them. Head
up the ladder when you reach it. Head up here to the upper left opening.
Drop down here and head through the right passage for a chest with a Star,
powering up your Power. Use the moving platforms on the previous screen to
reach the upper right ledge. Climb the ladder here and jump across the smiley
platforms to the left ledge. Proceed to the next screen to the left. Climb down
the ladder and open the chest for a Moon, increasing Speed by 1.
Head back up and right. Drop off the edge and hold left. When you grab the
ledge, head left to find the Mirror Shield. Your Armor is now 4. Head back to
the right, drop off. The next ledge left leads to a mimic so you can just keep
dropping if you want. Leave the Ice Cave and return to the igloo village.
Talk to the old man, then everyone in the village. Now, try to fight the
Mammoth. It should thrash you good. Sorry about that ;). But after you have
been defeated, talk to the old man and he should have so new text (some of it
will be oversized text). Once he has finished talking, return to Nantendo
Island.
*By the way, you can use a canoe now for quick access to docks in other parts
of the world.
Take a left at the reception desk and head up past the cop until you reach the
man who gave you the Power Glove. He will give you a device to control the
Mammoth - kind of like a brain box from Dino Riders. Return to the igloo
village with this.
Fight the Mammoth again and interrupt the fight. Choose the second option to
select an item and select the controller helmet. Watch the scene, the Mammoth
is now friendly to you. While the Mammoth follows you - you cannot enter
ladders, it stays outside of villages, you cannot use the canoe, and it will
attack enemies for you (defeating them with no risk to you).
Take the Mammoth south of the village to the dock and examine the gold. The
Mammoth is strong enough to pull this. Head out to the west and take the
Mammoth to the Port Town. Enter the village and watch the scene. You will
receive the Flute. You will be taken back to the second village once more.
Watch the scene here and you will receive the Club Key. Well, it's time to
return to the Castle!
From the entrance to the Castle, head right. Climb the ladder and open the Club
Door for a chest containing some picks. Climb up to the next screen and the
next. Defeat the soldier and head through the Club Door to the left. Follow the
path here and pick your way through the crumbled blocks.
With the Power Glove you have, you can push that large block to the right. Do
so, then jump up onto the chain and head left two screens. Jump up under the
moving platform to grab onto the hanging bar. Press down at the far left end of
its path to drop off. Drop down the chain here. Head left and grab the bar
under the platform here. Drop when you are in the centre of the path - above
the ladder. Head on down.
Stay in the middle of the ladders and head down when the spikes are retracted.
Drop onto the platform as it moves right and step onto the floor to the right.
Use the orb, then step off to the left. Again, just step onto the far left
platform and continue onto the next screen. Move left until you reach a ladder.
Stay above the water and wait for the bouncing balls to clear before making
your leaps. If you engage the fish as a frog, run. When you reach the ladder,
high jump up to it and climb it.
Let the spikes go up, then run under them. Climb the ladder and head off to
the right. Transform into a snake and crawl under the passage to the right. Use
the healing orb, then drop down at the right end of the path. Head onto the
next screen to the right.
transform back to the Prince and don't act too fast as that wizard will
surround the platforms with circling fire. Let the fire on the bottom left move
to the right and jump on the platform. Let the fire at the upper left move to
the left then jump up to that platform then right to the wizard. Killing it
removes the fire.
High jump on the next screen up first to a platform then next to the chains.
Attack the wizard then head off to the right. Turn into a snake and head to the
right. Drop into the water to become a frog, then head back left. Just avoid
the fire and head to the left of the screen with the wizard and ghost.
Let the spike ball swing left then jump to the central platform. Drop down to
the left and continue tot he next screen. Do the same on the next screen. On
next screen to the left, you can heal if you want then climb the ladder.
Once here, head up the chain platforms to the next screen. Avoid the ghost and
jump to the ledge, to the clock, and then proceed up. Jump up avoiding the
ghost here and grab the hanging bar. Ride it to the end and enter the little
passage to find a chest with a fruit. Go back, drop off left and hold right.
Climb onto the ledge and head right. Grab the hanging bar through here.
Ride it to the ladder and then head up (there is a pool below the ladder but
there is a large block to push so you will need to be the Prince). Push the
large 2x2 block you will eventually come to off to the left. Grab the chest
for a Heart upgrade. Return to the ladder at the end of the hanging bar path
and enter the hall to the right. Fight the soldier here and continue on.
High jump up to the ledge then move to the next screen right. Jump on top of
the clocks here all the way right until you come to a ladder. If you fall, the
clocks at the lower end shoot their pendulums. Let them fire and move in
between them when the space is clear. Reach the ladder at the far right either
way and climb it. Make small jumps so as not to fight spiders.
Head left up here, watch out for the clock on the way, but grin and bear it
because there is a ghost and a hedgehog here too. Maybe fight the hedgehog and
dodge the clock and ghost. Head up the ladder at the end.
Jump up to the left ledge and wait for the fire around the next platform to be
on the right. Jump to it, let the fire move out of the way then kill the
wizard. Move to the right but stop just before the platform. Let the fire
appear and move out of the way before jumping onto the wizard and killing it.
High jump up to the next screen.
Transform into a snake and head under the passage right. Return to Prince form
and climb up, then head to the next screen to the left. Let the claw on this
screen head left and then jump across. Either run under it or jump through the
chain. If it catches you, it will drop you to the lower floor. The same applies
to the next screen to the left. Let it come all the way right then jump through
the chain. High jump at the end and proceed to the left.
Grab the hanging bar and ride it down. Take the small passage left. Open the
Club Door. Run under the ghosts and return to Prince form as you head left.
Push the large 2x3 block left. Climb the ladder and head follow the path up and
right. Head down the ladder at the end, grab the big potion from the chest and
head left through the flip door. You are to the left of the 2x2 block. Head
down the ladder.
High jump up to the hanging bar, ride it right and drop off over the ladder.
Proceed to the next screen to the right. Ride the bar here right and drop down
over the open hole. Keep going left. You will come to an area of fires.
Basically, let a fire subside then jump to its place. Keep jumping to the left
to pass these hazards. Now, you can pass the first as a Snake (low passage) but
the second must be passed as described.
Climb the ladder and head through the Club Door. Talk to the frogs here. When
all is said and done, you are captured and placed in a cage with the Princess.
You will have no items at this point.
Check the middle of the cage gate, then talk tot he Princess. The frog with the
eye patch will enter the room. Check the middle of the gate again and he will
release you. Now, the Princess will be following you. You do not have your items
so remember to play it safe.
Leave the room and there's a chest in the next. This is your diary. Take it and
climb down the ladder at the right. Let the ghosts head to the left and then
climb down the ladder and drop down past the chains. Descend the ladder and
proceed to the left. You can jump over the troops here and continue left. You
can kill the front two soldiers here but not the one with the large, full black
helmet. Jump to the central platform then up onto the right ledge. Head right.
Jump across the smiley platforms here to the right. Climb up the ladder you
come to.
Up here, take the lower path left. That chest is a mimic, so just make your way
to the top. Climb up to the next screen. You can kill the ghosts, but don't
fight more than one if you can help it. Let them drop then quickly climb the
ladder and head off to the left.
Climb down the ladder at the right, and up the one at the left. the chest here
is a mimic so pass it for now. Head to the left. The chest here is a mimic so
just drop down holding left. Land on the left ledge, jump to the right and head
right. Grab the chest in here for all of your gear besides the Warp Door.
Head left and drop down. Follow the path left at the bottom. Kill the troops in
the way. The chest in the room with the healing orb is a Mimic. At the end you
will find a black soldier blocking the path. He will go down very quickly, and
drop your Warp Door. Drop down and you will be back in the main section of the
Castle. Leave.
Watch the scene that takes place in the second village. When you leave the
house you will be attacked. You will quickly dispatch one of them and the rest
run away. They do drop the Spade Key, however.
It's time. You have the final key and the Princess is safe. It's time to return
to the Castle and finish the job...
Heal and return to the Castle. Head right and up all of the ladders until you
come to the Spade Door. Open it and continue up. You will come to a 2x2 block,
push it left and head up. Climb up the large double-ladder and head right at
the top.
Drop down at the pit and hold right until you are centred. There are spikes at
the bottom, so this is important. Use the moving platforms to reach the upper
right ledge. High jump up and right from here. Head right and drop down to the
chest for a Health upgrade. High jump back up and to the next screen up. Hold
left as you do.
Climb the platform until you arrive at the hanging bar. Ride it down. Drop off
onto the platform it passes. High jump up to the next platform to the upper
right. Make a small jump to the smiley platform and again to the right. Proceed
to the right. ride this hanging platform all the way down.
Jump up and keep heading up and right until you come to a Diamond door. Enter
it and proceed right. You will find a chest with a Star, bringing your Power up
to 16. Follow the path down and left until you pass the room with pushable
blocks. This room has a diamond door and a ladder. Pass through the diamond
door.
Pass up and right until you come to the screen where you opened the diamond
door that lead to the Star. Jump onto the clouds left of here. Jump up to the
next screen, and scale the clouds here. At the top, move left. Follow the

The snake statues shoot fireballs at you, but no worries. Climb up the central
ladder as quickly as possible. Jump onto the horizontal platform, then vertical
and grab the hanging bar. Ride it until you pass a hole. Drop down here and hit
the ground running left.
Keep to the left until you reach a ladder. Climb it and run right. All the
while you will be opening doors and killing soldiers. At the end, jump up past
the chain and climb the ladder. Follow the path up and right. Kill the soldier
standing guard and head left. Climb down the ladder. Climb down the next one
and once you enter the room with Snake statues and soldiers, head to the right
through the door.
Heal at the Orb and climb up the centre of the double ladder. You will be in a
large hall. This is it, the final battle!

* Final Battle *
*******************************************************************************
Head up the hallway to the Snake at the end - begin a battle. Always select the
first option when you are prompted with a question.
When it has been reduced to 1 heart, it will transform into a huge Snake. It
has a maximum health meter, attack it. It will devastate you. You will be left
with a couple of hearts and be prompted to run or use an item. Use an item, the
second option, and choose the flute.
The old man from Nantendo will appear in a robot, and attack the Snake. He will
also fully heal you when he is defeated himself. The Snake is down to 5 hearts.
You will reduce him to 1 heart, and then he fully restores. The frogs you
rescued will attack, and be eaten. They transform to knights in his gut and
attack him, however, and the frog with you is revealed to be Richard. When all
is said and done, the boss is left with 8 HP.
It will be up to you now, press A to charge. You must charge when his shield is
open. There is one space where the balls are farther apart. Dash into that area
when it is lined up with you eight times and the Snake will be defeated.
Thanks of course go out to my hosts, without whom you would not be reading this
guide.
Thanks to Nintendo and those who worked on this game for such a great game. I
really do wish we had gotten a translation of this.
Thanks go out to the editors of the Link's Awakening wikipedia article, which
is where I found out about this game. Thanks also to the editors of the
wikipedia article for Kaeru no Tame ni, also the Japanese version article,
which I took some terms from - most notably Horse Radish.
