How to Play

[HELP]
Elite Soccer is a traditional football/soccer game that comes with most
of the bells and whistles, playing top-bottom instead of sideways like with
Nintendo World Cup, and has the full ten players on each team. Yellow cards and
red cards can be attained by hitting opposing players not in possession of the
ball, and offsides do exist.
Play can be very automated - you could probably go a 90 minute game
without touching anything and a few goals would be scored by both side. You only
have control over one player of your own team at a time, who you can move
around, dribble, pass and kick a ball with, and steal or block a shot when on
the defense.
Controls
--------
A: (Offense, Player has Ball Possession) Passes Ball to a Teammate. Use the
D-Pad to control direction of the pass
(Ball is in air) The player can use an overhead kick
(Defense) Team member in pursuit of opposing ball possessor does a shoulder
tackle
B: (Offense, Player has Ball Possession) Shoots Ball at Net, Requires Close
Proximity to the Net. Hold B for a
power shot.
(Kick-in, Throw-in) Player/Goaltender kicks/throws the ball into play
(Defense) Team member in pursuit of opposing ball possessor slides into the
opponent, knocking him over
Passing
-------
If you pass a ball, control will switch to the new player in possession
of the ball. However, it should be noted that the teammate you are passing to
will not automatically catch the ball.
Kicking
-------
By pressing and then holding B before letting go while in possession of
the ball, the player with the ball will perform a power kick. This is especially
useful near the opposing net, but you can also use this to launch the ball up.
When the ball is in the air, if you get a player close to it, you can
use the A button to perform an overhead kick.
Fouling
-------
Fouling is a possibility to do in this game: to do it, you must hit a
player on the opposite team while he is NOT in possession of the ball. Hitting
somebody who is in possession of the ball shall just result in a free kick from
the location where you hit him at.
Substitutions/Change of Tactics
-------------------------------
During regular play, press the Select button and you should see the word
'Menu' appear at the bottom. When the ball is dead, you can substitute in new
squad members or change your formation and tactics.
Passwords
---------
After every match in Knockout or World Cup competitions, except for the
championship matches, you will be given a password (assuming you are not knocked
out) that is 20 digits long. You can use this and input it on the 'Enter Code'
screen on the Knockout or World Cup menus. Note you need to actually select a
team and competition before you will see the Enter Code option, as for some
reason it is not put on the front menu.
---------
MAIN MENU
---------
When first entering the game, you will have four different button icons
to choose from. These are what each of them do.
Exhibition
----------
Found in the upper-left corner. A single 90-minute + extra time affair,
where you can choose to play as any of 28 different countries, as well as
choosing your opponent.
Goal Kick
---------
In the lower left corner of the main menu, with the goal net and Game
Boy, is an option to play a goal competition. You may choose your own team and
the opposing country, and you will alternate between a goal kicker and
goaltender to play 4 times each.
Controls
--------
Found in the lower right corner of the main menu. Here, you can toggle
the music on and off, and change the controls from the A-button set-up and
reverse the A and B button inputs.
Competitions
------------
The upper-right corner of the main menu, this is by far the most
extensive of the options available to you. In competitions, you can choose to
play in one of three different types of competition:
World Knockout
--------------
This is a tournament setting with up to 4 rounds of games, with
the loser of every game being knocked out, with a maximum of 16 teams
that can play. After you select your team, you can press the B button
to designate each playing team after that, in order from your team's
first opponent to the next bracket up to the end. You may also press
the A button for teams to be randomly assigned.
League
------
Here, you can assign up to 8 teams to play in a league. You
play all the other teams in the league, and whoever has the best
record after all the games is the league champion. Team selection is
the same as in world knockout, with B being used to select the other
teams and A randomly picking.
World Cup
---------
World Cup follows the FIFA format. Select your team to play as
and you will be put into a pre-set group of 4 (the composition of each
group is always the same - ie. Greece, Ireland, Sweden and Germany
shall always be in the same group. The best two teams from each league
plus a few of the better third-place teams will advance to a round of
16. The teams present in the game here are from teh 1994 FIFA World
Cup.
----------
MATCH MENU
----------
Prior to starting a match, you will be given another menu with four
icons again. This is what you can do from each of them.
Options
-------
Here, you can adjust the following:
•Equal Skill: Each player of each squad is given the exact same stats.
You can only adjust this in Exhibition (Friendly Play).
•Game Speed: Changes the speed and movements of the player between
slow, medium and fast.
•Goal Keeper: The equivalent of Equal Skill but for goaltenders, with
3 grades of skill.
•Match Duration: Not precisely sure what this does. Supposedly you
do this to change match duration, but altering it does
not actually appear to do anything.
•Wind Speed: Alters the wind velocity during the game.
•Weather: Toggles on and off weather effects
Formations
----------
Here, you can change your squad formation, as well as the behaviour of
your squad, between normal, aggressive, defense, etc.
Squad
-----
You can rotate the five squad members not active in and out of your
squad here.
Play Game
---------
Use this option to start the game.
I don't really care too much about donations, but if you are feeling
generous, feel free to send one via PayPal to gammabetaalphafaqs AT gmail DOT

Alternatively, if you ever order any items from Amazon.com, go to the
link below. You do not have to buy anything right away, but (if you do not clear
browser cookies often) any items you buy within the next 90 days will count as a
'referral order' to me, meaning I get anywhere from 4-6% as a referral/affiliate
payment of what you ordered (ie. order $100 worth of stuff, I get $4-6 from
Amazon.com)
Other than that, considering this FAQ is for an obscure old game, if you
have any other obscure old games that you do not play anymore, consider sending
them to me (I will even pay the shipping cost!). I write FAQs for plenty of
obscure old games with no FAQs, and having a physical copy of the game (and even
better, a manual) is superior to not. You can email me if interested at

Please note that due to a lack of resources (namely, a second copy of
the game), I cannot write on the 2Player mode of the game. If anyone has any
information on the 2P mode that they wish to contribute, feel free to email me
about it at gammabetaalphafaqs AT gmail DOT com
