[1. Intro (INTR)]

Hello, and welcome to my Secrets and Bosses Guide for Donkey Kong Land 3!
As with my guides for the other two DKL games, I’ll be covering how to find
and beat the bonus rooms in the game, and how to defeat the bosses you’ll
encounter during your quest, including the hidden ones.

Like before, I hope that the guide helps, but if have left anything out, or
you can think of something helpful to add, let me know – I’ll be sure to
include it in a future update.

Also, if you like this guide, be sure to rate and review, and recommend it to
others – I don’t how the algorithms work, but this does help.

[2. About the Game (ABOG)]

Following the Success of both Donkey Kong Country 2 in 1995, and Donkey Kong
Land 2 in 1996, another entry in both series was inevitable – and so it was,
that in Donkey Kong Country 3 arrived in 1996, followed by Donkey Kong Land 3 in
1997, to close out both trilogies.

The game plays the same as the first two DKL titles, but unlike DKL2, which took
DKC2 in largely transplanted it onto the Game Boy, DKL3 reverts to the formula
of DKL1, of taking elements from DKC3, but using them to make a new adventure.

Like the other games, this one holds some well-kept secrets, and some tricky
bosses – luckily, they will all be revealed in this guide!

[3. Story (STRY)]

The Northern Kremesphere is all ablaze with rumors of a Lost World, filled with
hidden treasures – and when the news reaches Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, they
decide to go and look for it, leaving Dixie Kong behind.

A few days pass, and the duo fail to return, so Dixie, accompanied by Kiddy
Kong, decides to go and look for them – and maybe find the Lost World in the
process, proving that she’s just as good at exploring as they are!

[4. Controls (CNTR)]

D-Pad – Walk/Run

A – Jump/Swim (when in water)/Fly (when Squawks

B – Somersault (Kiddy/Helicopter (Dixie)/Animal Attacks (When using animal
helper)

Hold B – Pick up items (release to throw)

D-Pad & B – Run

Start – Starts/Pauses game

Select – Change character (when you have both characters)/Turn webs into
platforms (as Squitter)

[5. Characters (CHRT)]

Donkey Kong

The series title character – having been kidnapped in the last game, DK has
now vanished whilst treasure hunting – what happened?

Diddy Kong

DK’s sidekick, Diddy also tired to become a treasure hunter, and has vanished
too – where is he?

Dixie Kong

After being the sidekick last time around, Dixie has graduated to hero – can she
find DK and Diddy, and the Lost World first?

Kiddie Kong

New for this adventure, Kiddie may be young but he’s ready for adventure – and
eager to help Dixie on her new adventure.

Wrinkly Kong

After running a school in the last adventure, Wrinkly is now taking it easy in
the Northern Kremesphere – but she’s still willing to help Dixie and Kiddy if
they need it.

Brother Bear

A local shopkeeper, BB has a teleporter to other worlds, if the Kongs can afford
to use it – he’s also willing to play games with them, with useful prizes if
win.

K. Rool

He’s back – the leader of the Kremlings is back, and he’s ready to take on the
Kongs again – could he have something to do with DK and Diddy’s vanishing act?

[6. Animal Helpers (ANHP)]

In keeping with the tradition of Donkey Kong Country/Donkey Kong Land games,
DKL3 features the return of several animal friends willing to help out the Kongs
during their adventure, all of whom have their own special moves
designed to help bash the Kremlins, and uncover secrets.

Here’s the rundown of who’s helping you this time around:

Enguarde the Swordfish

Back from DKL2, Enguarde is ready to swim through the deep depths to fish out
(sorry!) underwater secrets.
Special Attack: Press B to do a dash attack and take out underwater enemies.

Squawks the Parrot

Also back from DKL2, Squawks is once again ready to take to the skies in
search of hidden airborne secrets.
Special Attack: Press A repeatedly to fly, and B to shoot eggs.

Squitter the Spider

The third returnee from DKL2, Squitter is still spinning and spitting webs to
help cross the deepest and biggest chasms.
Special Attack: Press B to fire webs, and Select to turn them into platforms.

Ellie the Elephant

A new character for DKL3, Ellie is ready to use her trunk to squirt water at
foes – just don’t let her near any rodents!
Special Attack: Press B to spray water.

[7. Pickups (PKPS)]

As with any Donkey Kong game, you’ll find items as you go along that will help
you during the adventure – here you’ll find a list of what those items are, and
what they do:

Banana

Standard pickup in all DKL games – collect 100 of these for an extra life.

Bunch of Bananas

Pick up a bunch of bananas to get 10 in one go.

KONG Letters

Find all the letters that spell out KONG to gain another extra life.

DK Barrels

Find a DK Barrel to bring either Dixie or Kiddie into play.

DK Coins

Back from DKL2, the DK coins are no being held by an enemy called Koin, a
returnee from DKC3 – to beat him, look for a steel barrel nearby, grab it, and
make sure Koin is facing you with a wall behind him – throw the barrel over
Koin, so it rebounds off the wall, hitting Koin, and leaving the DK coin
behind – you’ll need to collect all of them to achieve 100% in the game.

Bonus Coins

Found by beating the bonus rooms, you need all of these to achieve 100% in the
game.

Bear Coins

These are used at the shops to buy items.

Kong Balloons

Collect these to gain an extra life.

Watches

Found in the shops, you need to buy all of these to finish the game properly.

Barrel

Normal barrel – pick it up and throw it at enemies!

Steel Barrel

A much tougher barrel – useful against certain enemies.

Star Barrel

Checkpoints, basically – they mark the half-way point of each level.

Cannon Barrel

These shoot you to new areas of the level – some fire automatically, others need
you to press A to shoot the Kongs out.

Bonus Barrel

The entrance to the bonus levels – look around to find them!

Booster Barrel

Goes into the sky, and then shoots you out.

Tracker Barrel

Like cannon barrels, except they track your movement after firing.

Animal Barrel

Jump in to transform into the animal printed on them.

Ghost Barrel

These act like cannon barrels, but they appear and disappear. Sometimes they
point in a direction you don’t want to go, so be careful when you jump in.

[8.1. Secrets Guide Intro (SCGI)]

Time to start the adventure – and to start looking for the hidden secrets!

As with my other two DKL guides, I will list all the hidden bonus rooms in
each level – where they are, and how to beat them. I’ll also show you where to

So with that, let’s get going!

[9.1. Boss Guide Intro (BSGI)]

Like with the other DKL games, K. Rool has left his toughest henchmen behind
to stop you from reaching the Lost World – and they are not going down without
a fight!

Luckily, as tough as they are, they’re not invincible – and this portion of
the guide will help you to take them down!

[9.2. Barbos (BABS)]

Back from DKC3, you’ll find Barbos at the end of Cape Codswallop – it’s an
underwater battle that you’ll be using Enguarde for.

Barbos moves up and down at first – when he stops, he sends out an enemy – when
this enemy stops moving, he’ll move up and down too. When he’s open, attack him
to send him flying into Barbos. Barbos will then move and up again, and send out
three enemies at once – dodge them, and repeat the process two
more times – enemies will chase you more each time, but be sure to keep them
level with Babrbos for when you attack them. You’ll get a bonus coin for beating
Babrbos.

[9.3. Bleak (BLEK)]

Bleak waits for you at the end of Primate Plains – luckily, he’s easier than he
was in DKC3.

He fires snowballs at you – it’s best to stand on the roof to avoid them, as
most of the snowballs will miss you there, and you can jump over the rest
easily. After the snowballs, a barrel will appear on the roof – grab it, and
throw it at Bleak. Do this four times in total to defeat him, leaving the
bonus coin behind.

[9.4. Arich (ARCH)]

Another one who’s been made easier than in DKC3, Arich is guarding the end of
Blackforest Plateau.

When he appears, he will move to the top of the screen and fire pellets –
dodge these, and Arich will move off screen before dropping down. Dodge out of
the way, and jump onto Arich’s back. He will start jumping around fast, so
move around to get out of the way. After he slows back down, the pattern
repeats itself, only with more pellets, so be more careful when dodging them.
You need to jump on Arich four times before he goes down, giving you a bonus
coin.

[9.5. Kaos (KAOS)]

Kaos returns after being defeated in DKC3 – luckily, he’s also easier here
than he was there.

Kaos will move from side to side – duck to avoid being hit. When he moves to
the top of the screen, jump on the rotor blades, avoiding the boxing gloves
trying to push her off, and onto his head. After dropping down, Kaos will follow
you, and move side to side along the ground – jump over him this time to avoid
him. Keep this up for 3 hits, and Kaos will become scrap metal, leaving you with
the bonus coin.

[9.6. K. Rool (Part 1)(KRPO)]

K. Rool, having watched his minions fail him, decides to take care of you
himself – time to put him down once more!

First, he stays above you on the top of the arena, firing lasers. Wait until the
barrel appears, throw it at him. Dodge him when he bounces around. He will now
fire lasers on the top, middle, and bottom of the arena. Jump over the bottom
lasers, and grab the barrel when it appears. Throw it at K. Rool again, and once
dodge the bounces again. K. Rool will now stay on the bottom of the arena, and
he fires 3 lasers – jump to dodge them, and use the barrel as before when it
appears. More bounces follow, and finally he will fire a laser at the top of the
arena, two on the bottom, and another at the top again. Jump over the two bottom
ones, and wait until the barrel appears. Grab it, and throw it at K. Rool one
more time. Dodge the final bonuces, and K. Rool will leave, dropping the bonus
coin...

..But is it the end?

No, it isn’t, because you still have The Lost World to go, and K. Rool is
waiting for you at the end.

(N.B: You need to find all the items in the game apart from the last bonus coin
– that’s 77 Bonus Coins, 42 DK Coins, and all 6 Watches – in order to fight K.
Rool the second time.)

[9.7. K. Rool (Part 2)(KRPT)]

K. Rool decides to stop messing around – this is a fight to the finish!

Firstly, he will fly acros the top of the arena, and then flies back across the
bottom – jump over him when he does. He’ll then throw 2 bombs on either side of
the arena, dodge those. The barrel will appear, so throw it at K. Rool. He’ll
change tactics by after flying around the arena he’ll throw 5 bombs on either
side of the arena. Throw the next barrel to appear to make him change tactics
again. He’ll fire 2 lasers on the bottom of the arena, 2 on the top, and 2 more
on the bottom. Jump over the bottom ones, and jump again when he flies low
across the arena. He’ll repeat the pattern on the other side, so jump the lasers
again, and throw the barrel when it appears. He’ll return to using bombs,
throwing 4 on one side of the arena, and then move to the other side. He will
now throw a bomb from the top, moves down to the bottom to fire 2 lasers, and
then throw another bomb. Dodge these, and throw the barrel when
it appears. He will now throw 2 bombs at once on either side of the arena, dodge
those, and that’s it – he’ll leave again, leaving behind the final Bonus Coin.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

You’ve now beaten the main game – all the remains is the time trial levels that
are unlocked after beating the main game – you have to beat the fastest time to
the end of each level to win – good luck!!!
