How to Play
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[HOWT]
Mulan is a fairly short platforming-esque game with six levels. Two of
the levels have gimmicks to them, but for the most part the action is involved
of climbing and dropping down, jumping across ropes and poles, and generally
moving from left to right.
During regular action, you must take care not to fall from too great of
drops, or else they will damage Mulan. You start off each level with five
hearts. Taking damage from Hun enemies, suffering from great falls, or tripping
over on obstacles on certain levels will all knock a heart off. You can find a
spare heart floating around on a few levels, but they are sparse.
When encountering enemies, Mulan can, from a distance, throw stones at
them to temporarily knock them out (though most of them will recover shortly
thereafter).
The game also has enhanced graphics when played with a Super Game Boy.

Level One - Training Grounds
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[LEV1]
Proceed right, and stop shy of the first barrier. Use the A button while
standing to throw a rock at the barrier to knock it over, then repeat with the
second one. Continue right while holding down the A button to dash and jump over
two small ponds by pressing the B button, then throw rocks at three more
barriers in turn. You will have to dash in between each barrier here or else
they will regenerate and push you back.
Once you get to the obstacle course, jump up while standing next to the
edge for Mulan to pull herself up. Continue, running by once the barrage of
arrows stops, then climb up again.
Go right, and make a running jump, and press the B button once you
approach the rope to grab a hold of it. Continue climbing up and face to your
right. Once the arrows temporarily stop, jump to the right platform. Move
forward, hop onto another rope, and then hop over to the right side again.
Continue on just past some more arrows, and hop up onto the ledge of the higher
platform. Continue right and onto the next rope, then climb down and drop down
to the platform below.
Drop down to the ground to the right, and dash past the arrow pot once
it stops firing. Climb up onto the next platform, then jump onto the rope. Climb
up and jump over to the nexxt rope, then jump once more onto solid ground. Head
right and use stones to knock down some more barriers, dashing in between each
of them.
Climb up several consecutive ledges to go to the top of the obstacle
course, then drop down to the vertical logs. Hop over a couple of logs to the
right until you see another warrior coming from the right. Stay where you are
and throw rocks at him continuously until he falls over. Continue over the logs
and drop down at the end.
Dash to your right until you grab an item off the ground, then backtrack
left to the high pole. Use the B button to start climbing it, and then just
press Up to continue your skyward ascent.

Level Two -Lake
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[LEV2]
In this level, you as Mulan must swim through a lake and dodge detection
by any of the men swimming around. In practice, this merely means that you must
continue swimming upwards but do not run head-on into anybody, instead veering
around to their sides.
At the start, as soon as you press up, you will start moving upwards
constantly with the current. You can press the down button to slow down
considerably, though you will still move up. While swimming, you can press the B
button to submerge underneath the water and skip past anybody in your way -
however, a gauge will drain out while you are underwater. When you reemerge it
will start replenishing.
You must be careful not to get snagged on any of the small islands
throughout the area, as the screen is constantly scrolling up, and will knock a
heart off if you get snagged and fall off camera.
There are four types of men swimming around. There are the ones who will
go southwards, and these are probably the most dangerous. There are some bigger
guys who simply stay in one spot in the water, and are easy to spot. A third
class of warriors will swim left and right, occasionally submerging and emerging
from the water, with a few of them jumping into the water from land. A final
fourth type of men in the water are skinnier guys who stay in the water, but
will submerge and then emerge. As stated before, use the B button to swim
underwater and skip past them if required.
Once you get to the area with lots of logs in the water, be careful, as
there will be a number of men submerging from the water. Right after you get
past that, move towards the upper half of the screen, as the level will end off
with a lot of narrow strips that you need to move left and right through
quickly. If you stay at the bottom, the camera will scroll you out and knock a
heart off.
When you reach a dead end pond, the level ends.

Level Three - Mountain
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[LEV3]
In this level, once you go right and find a shield to use as a
snowboard, Mulan will automatically start moving right through the snowfield.
There are several possible ways to wipe out here. First and foremost are
logs and stumps, which you must jump over when you spot them. There are also
clumps of snow which you need to jump over or snowboard around. Several holes
are littered throughout the level for Mulan to fall into. There are also spots
in the snow with sort of circular-shaped symbols where Hun enemies will pop out
of and grab your foot if you get too close. Fissures exist in a small ice patch
which will crack if you skate over them.
Finally, you will occasionally have to jump over small cliffs to the
next section - do not go too far north when moving up and down, as there is a
long clump of snow at the top where you will automatically get knocked out if
you go that far. For the most part, stick to the bottom part of the area to
avoid getting hit.
Once you get to an area with four straight logs, the game takes over
automatically, ending the level.

Level Four - Descent
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[LEV4]
Throughout this level, you are attempting to descend the mountain. A
good rule of thumb is to drop down every platform you come across, instead of
trying to move right. Also, if you try to move right constantly you will
eventually fall off the side of a mountain.
Hun goons will be in your way. Throw stones at them to sneak by them,
and watch out for rocks that they throw from above once they recover.
You will also occasionally find patches of ice which Mulan can slide
across. When you go down a patch of ice, at the end press the B button plus Left
or Right (whichever direction you are sliding in) to move onto the next ice
patch or a cliff.
After you see the falcon the first time, you will get onto another ice
patch with some rocks on them. Jump over them to clear the path. Head left past
a goon after striking him down with several rocks, then continue down a
platform. Do a dash jump right over a gap to the other side, go down, then do a
second dash jump back left across the chasm.
Take out the goon here, then go left and drop down. Do one final dash
jump to your right to land onto another ice patch, and then continue jumping
right until you get to the end and wrap up the level.

Level Five - City
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[LEV5]
Move right and jump underneath the first street stall to climb onto the
pavilion. Jump on the awning and then jump again once you land to bounce up
higher, and grab a hold of the rope in the air. Make your way up to the first
shingled rooftop.
Walk right, and press the down button to crouch whenever an arrow comes
by. Continue right and drop down at the end to get to the low ground. Move right
slightly and hop onto the lowest awning of all the stalls here (if you have
taken damage, go right on the ground, taking out another Hun guard, to get a
heart). Hop over several awnings to the right most stall, and then leap up to
grab the rope.
Climb up to the shingle roof, then head left to another rope. Climb up.
Wait for the guard up here to move left before jumping off to the right. Proceed
right and fall straight down several times at the end, then jump onto some more
awnings and to another rope in the next street section.
Go up, then hop over to the second rope, then onto a rooftop. Walk right
a bit, climb another rope up high to the very top, and move right to the next
rope (this may be a bit tricky, as you need to be at the very top of the first
rope and that will give you just enough room to grab the second rope). Continue
on to a third rope and then onto a rooftop.
Do a dash jump to your right and take out a Hun guard on the rooftop,
then perform another dash jump over a chasm to the next rooftop. Drop down to
your left from here onto an awning, and then to the ground. Move right, taking
out a Hun enemy, then dash right until you get the level end scene.

Level Six - Palace
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
[LEV6]
Walk right and climb up onto a shelf, then a higher cabinet, and dash
jump onto another shelf. Drop down from here and proceed right. Climb up onto a
shelf and then hop right onto a long pole. Climb the pole up and disembark at
the top to your right.
Throw rocks at the guard who will pop out from the door until he goes
down, then dash by him and jump onto a pole. Hop onto the next pole, climb up
it, then jump off to the right onto the top of another high cabinet. Do a dash
jump towards another pole, then hop off onto still another cabinet. Grab some
firecrackers, which shall replace your stones (and take only one throw each to
knock out guards).
Hop onto the next pole, climb up, and jump onto a high platform. Move
right, take a guard coming out of the door with your firecracker, then drop
straight down. Climb up over a cabinet and drop down the ground to the right.
Climb the nearby pole up a bit, then jump off to the right. Go up the ledge and
take out the guard patrolling nearby, and go right past him up the pole.
Disembark to your left, and eliminate the Hun at the left before
grabbing the pole to scale up. Once you see the platform with the Heart item on
it, jump off to that platform. Grab some more fireworks and then get onto the
pole to your right. Climb up and jump across the room to the next pole.
Go up the next pole and hop off onto a high platform, and knock out the
guard that pops out from the door. Head right to go outside.
Out here, go right to confront Shan Yu. 6 shots of fireworks will be
sufficient to take him down and finish the game.

Alternatively, if you ever order any items from Amazon.com, go to the
link below. You do not have to buy anything right away, but (if you do not clear
browser cookies often) any items you buy within the next 90 days will count as a
'referral order' to me, meaning I get anywhere from 4-6% as a referral/affiliate
payment of what you ordered (ie. order $100 worth of stuff, I get $4-6 from
Amazon.com)
Other than that, considering this FAQ is for an obscure old game, if you
have any other obscure old games that you do not play anymore, consider sending
them to me (I will even pay the shipping cost!). I write FAQs for plenty of
obscure old games with no FAQs, and having a physical copy of the game (and even
better, a manual) is superior to not. You can email me if interested at
