While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and
effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your
appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the
donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping
me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated,
and are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do
decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the
e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for considering this!!

                         [email protected]

By the way, this is also my contact e-mail, so if you want to contribute
something to this or any of my other FAQs, or have a question to ask about one
of them, go ahead and use this e-mail.

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the DS game known as Uno 52.
Uno 52 is a Hasbro game adapted from another one of their games, Uno, made into
a poker-style card game versus the matching-based one it once was.

..

That's all I have to say on this game. Enjoy.

---------------------
A General Uno 52 Game
---------------------

Game Description:
`````````````````
The object of this game combines two concepts - the poker concpet of having
the best hand, and the Uno concept of running out of cards. Whoever meets one
of these objectives first will win chips.
On each turn, you will have to either draw a card from the deck, or discard a
card from your hand. The former is obvious. In the case of the latter, you
must place the discarded card on top of the face-up card near the deck. These
two cards must match in number/symbol or in color, or you must be playing a
wild card.
After this, you will play a card to your hand and select a card for it to
replace, or opt to pass via the big blue "X" card next to the discard pile.
There are a few special cards:
- Skip: This is marked with a crossed-through circle. The next person will
        skip their turn, regardless of choice.
- Reverse: The play order reverses.
- Draw Two: The next player must draw two cards.
- Basic Wild: This is marked with just four colors. This will change the color
              on the discard pile to the card player's chosen color.
- Wild Draw Four: Your antithesis and best friend. This will not only change
                  the color on the discard pile, but force the next player to
                  draw four cards. However, the play of this can be challenged
                  because it is illegal to play it if the player of it has
                  cards of the discard pile's current color. If challenged,
                  the card player will have to draw four cards ... but only if
                  the play was, in fact, illegal. If it wasn't, the challenger
                  then draws EIGHT cards. O_o
Play generally circles around until conditions are met.
There is one key thing to remember. If you get rid of your second-to-last card,
you have to call "Uno" or you'll have to draw cards if someone notices. To call
Uno, press the R Button.
Game Scoring:
`````````````

Upon the beginning of each round, you must contribute one yellow chip, which is
one point, to the pot. You can also find red (five) or blue (ten) chips in
there.

Upon the end of a round, the player who lost all of their cards gets a blue
chip; the best poker hand gets the red chip. Therefore, it is better to focus
on getting rid of cards. Any other player will toss in a yellow chip into the
pot for every card they had remaining.

So, the purpose of the pot? Well, if someone gets both the best poker hand and
also runs out of cards, they win the whole pot! This is rare, and therefore,
the pot can become a substantial imbalancer to the losers.

What determines a "good" or "bad" hand? Well, here they are, from best to
worst:

Game Modes and Setup
--------------------

Game Modes:
```````````
Quick Play allows for a quicker set-up of a game by giving you fewer
customization options. Custom Game allows the whole thing.
The Special Modes allows for several challenge modes. These include
Challenge Mode (five challenging levels), Endurance Mode (getting as high a
score as possible before losing too much), Timed Mode (play within a time
limit), and Solitaire Mode (play Uno 52 Solitaire).
Game Setup:
```````````

This assumes the full setup allowed in Custom Game.

First is the player setup menu. You can choose from two to four players, and,
if four players are being used, whether to play on teams. Team members will
play separately, but their benefits and losses affect each other the same.

Next, you'll choose whether each of the players will be a human or computer.
Human players are capable of passing around the Nintendo DS console, so there
is no need for the use of local Wi-Fi. If a computer is in use, you can choose
their difficulty (easy, normal, hard), at the bottom.

Then you can choose the game type. There are several modes you can play. Some
of them also have certain win conditions that can be edited as well.

- Endless, where you play until you want to stop.

- Chips, where you end upon meeting a certain score. This score can be 50,
  100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, or 500 chips.

- Uno Wins, where you end the game after someone runs out of cards so-many
  times. This number can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 times.

- Poker Wins, where the game ends after someone has the best poker hand
  so-many times. This number can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 times.

- Pot Wins, where you end the game after someone gets the pot so-many times.
  This can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 times.

- Survival, where you lose if you run out of chips, and then leave the game.
  The last person remaining is the winner. You can opt to start with 25, 50,
  75, 100, 125, 150, 175, or 200 chips.

You can also choose to play using the house rules. If on, you get to choose a
few things. These can include the ability to use a Wild card on your poker hand
to change the color of a card; the ability to play multiple Draw Two cards in
one turn to increase the number drawn; how many cards are drawn upon being
successfully challenged on not saying Uno, which is zero to five; how many
cards you start with, which is five to fifteen; and, finally, the ability to
play Wild Draw Four cards illegally for an attempt at a bluff.

Then there are the alternate cards. If you opt to use them, then you can use
a Wild version of the Reverse and Skip cards; a Wild Symbol card, which allows
the card's player to choose a number or symbol; an All Draw Two card, which
makes everyone but the card's player draw two cards; and a Joker card, which
will adjust itself to become a card that makes your poker hand the best it can
be.

After the various thematic themes are chosen, you can finally begin your game.
This is played along the general rules outlined previously, in addition to any
changes in the house rules and such you may have made. Good luck.
