(1.0) Introduction
Be aware, there are clearly game play spoilers, and some very
slight spoilers for the story. You?ve been warned.
It?s always a pressing decision, deciding which Pokemon game to
get at release. This FAQ will serve the purpose of clarifying
which version has which Pokemon, exclusive areas, and other
miscellaneous exclusive features.
Be aware, there are other guides out there that clarify where to
find these Pokemon, their stats, available moves, and so on.
This guide has the simple purpose of outlining which version
they can be found in. I?m not offering a professional opinion on
which version to get, but just giving you the information to
work with so you can determine that for yourself.Without further
delay, here it is.

(4.0) Black Area Exclusives
1. Black City
Black City is a city available for access after completion of
the main story. There are multiple large buildings here,
which contain trainers for you to face and items for you to
purchase. This will prove to be very helpful, as regular trainers
cannot be battled again, but you can constantly rebattle multiple
trainers a day within Black City. Using the Entralink feature to
communicate with those who have White Version will allow you to gain
more people, and more buildings will appear, as well as larger
selections of items. Entralink is only available between local
Nintendo DS/Lite/I/3DS communications, it cannot be accessed over
Nintendo Wifi.
Before you actually use Black City (Or White Forest, as I will
discuss below) there are several different things to keep in mind.
The most noteworthy is a theory that was recently proven concerning
the amount of people who will be in Black City. The second you start
your save file, there is a timer going on that spans approximately
ten days. If you do not clear the Main Story within this time span,
(in other words, gaining access to Black City) the amount of people
in Black City will gradually decrease. Also, over time, the amount
of people within it will decrease on its own, regardless of what you
do. Don?t worry though, as long as you utilize Entralink, you will
be able to gain different trainers and more items.
If you are all about Pokemon battles, in game or online, and are
intent upon leveling up your Pokemon as high as you can, then I
would recommend a purchase of Pokemon Black Version. There are a lot
more trainers available for you to battle, and a larger amount of
items for you to obtain and use in battle.
2. Mistralton City
In Black Version, the outskirts of Mistralton City have many
sheds and buildings. This does not affect game play in any
way, but is merely an aesthetic difference. The contrast between
Black Version Mistralton City and White Version Mistralton City is
to show differences between the technologically advanced Black
Version, and the slightly more rural White Version. These
differences play a much larger role in Opelucid City, mentioned
below.
3. Opelucid City
In Black Version, Opelucid City is industrialized and has
many neon lights glowing throughout it. Again, this is merely
an aesthetic difference; it will not change what you do in
game play.
This does, however, pertain to a certain sidequest within the game.
There is a building in Opelucid City, northwest of the Pokemon
center among several other buildings with a man and his child inside
of it. This man expresses concern over his son?s future, and
references a machine that can help him. What this man requires is a
Pokemon from a different world with the Pokemon move Charge. By
another world, he means from the opposite version, in this case,
Pokemon White. A common Pokemon to obtain for this sidequest would
be a Blitzle or Zebstrika.
Completion of this sidequest earns you a TM, and I?ve included the
information here due to the requirements varying by version, please
keep in mind that in Black you will need the Charge Pokemon to be
from White Version.
(5.0) White Area Exclusives
1. White Forest
Contrary to Pokemon Black, the White Forest, accessible after
the main story, is a quiet forest with many grass patches
available for you to catch Pokemon in. There are also several
items that can be found, and more people and new pokemon will
show up via Entralink.
There is also a house located within White Forest containing several
people, an old man who will give you berries if you can find a
certain Pokemon in the forest, and a boy and girl who will challenge
you to Triple Battles and Rotation Battles.
Keep in mind that as you find more people via Entralink, White
Forest will expand, grow more trees, have small ponds, and more
items will be found within its boundaries. Different people will
also come into the forest, and talking to them will indicate which
Pokemon have recently come into White Forest along with them. There
are a total of about 32 Pokemon that can be caught in White Forest,
and that is excluding their evolutions, you could potentially fill
up 70 or more Pokedex slots by getting everything there is to get
out of White Forest.
It should also be noted that Black City and White Forest follow the
same basic mechanics, if you don?t reach White Forest within the set
amount of time (ten real world days) you?ll start losing your White
Forest population! In case you just skipped down to this section,
let me remind you, this problem can be averted by using Entralink
with the opposite version, in this case, Pokemon Black.
2. Mistralton City
Once again contrary to Black version, the outskirts of
Mistralton City show growing crops and farmland, a mere
aesthetic difference to enhance your personal experience.
(Translation: it doesn?t change game play!)
3. Opelucid City
If the themes being set weren?t a clue, White Version?s take
on Opelucid city involves it being a quiet, old style village
with few signs of electronics or technology, in direct contrast with
the technologically advanced Black Version.
Of course, the same concept of bringing a Pokemon with Charge to the
man with his child is still a sidequest, but obviously the version
exclusives roles come in. While you would have needed a Pokemon with
Charge from White version above in the Black description, you will
now need a Pokemon from Black Version with Charge. My recommendation
of the easy to obtain Blitzle or Zebstrika still stands.
(6.0) Black Battle Exclusives
1. Opelucid City Gym Leader
In Black Version, the gym leader of Opelucid City is Drayden.
Nothing further is changed other than the actual person
fighting you, both leaders use the same Pokemon.
2. Battle Styles
Black Version contains more Rotation Battles, throughout the
main story you will face four Rotation Battles and one Triple
Battle.
3. N?s Legendary
After beating the Elite Four and facing N (as the champion),
he will have a different legendary depending on your version.
In Black, he will have Zekrom. (you get access to Reshiram)
This changes a few different scenes throughout the game. It changes
the scene where you first see the legendary that N obtains at
DragonSpiral Tower. It of course alters the course of you battle,
but there are two huge cutscenes before that battle takes place. In
Black Version, his Zekrom will show up first, and Reshiram will show
up in the second cutscene to aid you in your battle against N. The
last difference is the Pokemon that appears in the ending credits,
which in this case will be Zekrom.
(7.0) White Battle Exclusives
1. Opelucid City Gym Leader
In White Version, you will be facing Iris instead of Drayden.
Again, they use the same exact Pokemon, the difference is
just who you?re battling.
There will be some alterations in terms of dialogue though, as Iris
plays a role early on the story while you?re in Castelia City.
Nothing beyond optional dialogue is exclusive though, the main
difference is that there are simply different gym leaders.
2. Battle Styles
In that theme of being opposites, you face more Triple
Battles in Pokemon White, four of them throughout the main
story and one Rotation Battle.
3. N?s Legendary
If you haven?t already guessed by reading above, N will have
Reshiram in White Version; you will have a chance to get
Zekrom.
As I?ve mentioned earlier, this changes up a few things throughout
the game, but in White version the roles are reversed (as you?ve
probably well expected by now). N will obtain Reshiram in the
DragonSpiral Tower cutscene, and in the pre-battle scene he will
also have it. Zekrom shows up in the scene after that, and Reshiram
is featured in the ending credits. Talk about that Yin-Yang theme
the two legendaries have?
