==============================================================================
February 05, 2012
- Well, I'll be darned. It's been brought to my attention by a reader that
I am indeed missing a couple of types. Those two being Dark/Rock and
Dark/Ground. My thanks goes to the person whom contacted me but did not
want to be credited for reasons. (Remember, you can just always give me
a nickname or something to credit you by!)
- To confirm the dual types now, I'm going to in the new section Examples,
list the dual types and give an example of a Pokemon. I also hope this
helps folks, because some types are extremely rare (with perhaps just
one Pokemon having that type).
- And upon setting up the Examples section I've found other types missing.
From the looks of it, perhaps during an update at some point, my Ground
section went the way of the dodo. Because looking at my chart now I
realize that there used to be a section with Ground. If you find any
issues with this now more complete chart, please let me know!
- Added dual types found MIA are the following: Dark/Rock, Dark/Ground,
Electric/Ground, Fire/Ground, Ground/Fly, Ground/Ghost, Ground/Rock,
Ground/Steel, and Psychic/Ground.

II. About This Guide / Dedication
==============================================================================
This guide is based off my dual-type chart for Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon
Leaf Green. It has been modified to fit the need for Pokemon Black and White.
I have tried to simplify things from my previous version, so things may
appear slightly different.
I know that Pokemon has been out many years, and that many of us that love
this series do not need to use things like battle charts and all. I think
sometimes we take for granted that with every iteration, new folks are coming
to the series. And each iteration things get more complicated. More dual
types have been introduced over time, making it a bit more difficult for those
new to grasp.
I'm currently helping a friend who has never played a Pokemon game to get
used to things since he's picked up Pokemon Black. This guide is
dedicated to my friend, Jamie, and all those newcomers to the series with
Pokemon Black and White. I hope that this chart at least helps you all
get into this wonderful game and makes it a little more enjoyable.

NOTE: It should be said that with Generation IV that Rotom, #479, it was an
Electric/Ghost regardless of its form. From Generation V (Pokemon White and
Black) onward, each of his forms will have the Ghost type replaced by a
different type, depending on the form he takes. Heat Rotom is the only one
that has the Electric/Fire dual type. If you view the Pokedex on Pokemon.com
however, it will list Rotom and all his forms under Electric/Ghost. This also
goes for Electric/Grass, Electric/Ice
V. How To Use the Chart
==============================================================================
Top - Along this side of the chart are the single Pokemon types.
Left - Along this side of the chart are the dual Pokemon types.
To see what kind of damage a single Pokemon type will do to a specific
dual-type, find the element type along the top. Run down the column until the
Pokemon's dual-type on the left side meets up with the single element type.
This should yield a good idea of what the damage that particular move will do
to the dual type Pokemon.
Don't see your dual-type? Try reversing the order you see the types in. For
example, say you have an WTR/ELC type Pokemon. If you don't see it, try
reversing it and look for ELC/WTR.
VI. Chart Key
==============================================================================
The following information is the key to use the chart:
! "ULTRA EFFECTIVE"
There are 2 Super Effective modifiers in play here. Both are weak to
that particular element. 400% damage.
EX. Electric VS Water/Flying
+ "SUPER EFFECTIVE"
There is 1 Super Effective and 1 Normal Effective in play here. One
is weak to that type and the other is normal. 200% damage.
EX. Fire VS Grass/Poison
(blank) "NORMAL EFFECTIVE"
< Variation #1 >
There is 1 Super Effective and 1 Not Very Effective in
play here. One of the elements is weak to that particular
element and the other one is not very effective. 100% damage.
EX. Fire VS Water/Grass
--------> OR <--------
< Variation #2 >
There are 2 Normal Effectives in play here. Both elements
aren't one way or the other with the particular element.
100% damage.
EX. Normal VS Water/Flying
* "NOT VERY EFFECTIVE"
There is 1 Normal Effective and 1 Not Very Effective in play here.
One element is in the middle of the road on the element and the other
has better resistance against it. 50% damage.
EX. Fighting VS Flying/Dragon
- "ALMOST USELESS"
There are 2 Not Very Effectives in play here. Both elements resist
the element being used pretty well. 25% damage.
EX. Fighting VS Flying/Bug
= "INEFFECTIVE"
One or both of the types the dual-type Pokemon has is unaffected by
the element. Even if just one of the types on the Pokemon takes 0%
damage it nullifies the whole attack. 0% damage.
EX. Ground VS Fire/Flying
VII. Abbreviations
==============================================================================
BUG = Bug GRD = Ground
DRK = Dark ICE = Ice
DRG = Dragon NRM = Normal
ELC = Electric PSN = Poison
FGT = Fighting PSY = Psychic
FIR = Fire RCK = Rock
FLY = Flying STL = Steel
GHT = Ghost WTR = Water
GRS = Grass
VIII. Examples
==============================================================================
Here I am going to provide an example of each type for several reasons. I
hope that you find it useful. For those with just a couple, in case that
dual type is scarcely used, I will include both.
* by a Pokemon's name means it is the only one in that dual type class.

PKMRULES
Pkmrules was the original person I met on the Nintendo.com message
boards who set me on the path to create my first guide for Pokemon
Fire Red and Pokemon Leaf Green. A battle chart was lacking for
dual-type Pokemon and he gave me the motivation to get it started
While I've not seen or heard from him in a long time, he is still
my inspiration for writing this guide. He's the one that got me
started and without it, I know this guide would have not existed,
nor would my original guide.
JAMIE
To my friend Jamie, who recently picked up Pokemon Black, thank you.
You've given me someone to talk to about Pokemon again and
revitalized my love for Pokemon. Without you, this guide would not
exist. It's your fresh view into the world of Pokemon that made me
realize how many questions we start off with when getting into this
series. With that fresh view on it, it made me realize there are
others getting into this series for the first time as well. Thank
you for everything.
SEREBII.NET
Thank you to Serebii.net for the full PokeDex for all the Pokemon
included in Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. Without them, this
would have been a much more difficult journey to gather the dual
type combinations.
TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE READ AND USED THIS GUIDE...
Thank you for using this guide. I put a lot of time and effort into
it to make it the best possible guide for those seeking this
information. I especially thank those who've taken the time to send
me a nice email regarding this guide. I may not always respond, but
do know that I appreciate the kind words.
For those new to the Pokemon world welcome and enjoy your stay!
I hope that I've been able to provide some help for you and make
your gaming experience a bit more enjoyable.
X. Author Notes
==============================================================================
This guide was created for Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. However, due to
the types staying similar, if not the same, across the Pokemon games, this
guide can technically be used for other games in the series if you so desire.
Do keep in mind that each series may add on additional dual-types which may
not be covered by this guide.
Again, if you find any errors in this guide, feel free to contact me regarding
the issue and I'll try to correct it as soon as possible. If you have any
comments, concerns, or you feel I've left something out of this guide please
feel free to contact me.
