Welcome to my FAQ for Pokemon Black 2/White 2! The purpose of this guide
is to provide you with all the information you would need in order to
quickly and easily succeed at the mini-game, Pokemon Musicals, and to
collect all the Props. The Musicals and Props replaced Competitions,
Pokeathlons, and Accessories from previous generations.
With the addition of achievement Medals in this game, Musicals serve a
little bit more purpose. There are a total of seven (7) Medals associated
with Pokemon Musicals, and this guide will help you get all of them.
There is not a lot of information about this in the game, which was
incredibly frustrating for me. As a result, I made this guide based on my
experience and testing of the system. If you notice something is wrong or
is missing, please feel free to let me know (see the
"Corrections/Contributions" section).
Maybe part of the fun is determining the inner workings of the Musicals
on your own, but if you want to skip that, then this is the guide for
you. This is my second FAQ, and I hope you find it useful!

A. Getting Started [GSTD]

If you want to save a large amount of time, please read this. If you have
a copy of Black/White, and you have participated in Musicals in that
game, make sure you do a Memory Link! You have to do the Memory Link
before you enter the Musical Theater for the first time. You will receive
a Prop Case containing all of the Props your character had previously
acquired.
This can save you all of the time it would take to collect the Props
normally. If you didn't know about this, missed it, or didn't do Props in
the last game, then you will get to collect all of them on your own.
Anyways, once you progress through the main game far enough, you will
reach Nimbasa City, where the Pokemon Musicals take place. The Pokemon
Musical building is in the northeast corner of the city.
The Musical Director will give you a Prop Case (a Key Item), and ask you
to pick a Pokemon in your party. He will then teach you the basics of
playing Dress Up. It is as simple as it sounds. You place Props (similar
to Accessories from previous games) on your Pokemon, like a wig on the
head or a cape on the body of your Pokemon.
If you are coming back to complete the Musicals later in the game like I
did, all you need to know is you place your collected Props on your
desired Pokemon. Very simple.
B. Medals List [MDLS]
---------------------------
The main reason you are probably doing the Musicals is for the Medals.
There are seven (7) Medals associated with Pokemon Musicals, so here
they are with their requirements to obtain them. They are all Entertainment
Medals. If you are familiar with how the Musicals work from experience with
Black and White, then most of these should not be a problem.

Getting all the Props is not that difficult, and you will probably win
enough times in the process to get all the winning Medals anyways. The
hardest one by far is getting ten followers after a performance.
Playing and linking with friends can quickly net you followers, but those
participations and possibly wins do not count towards the Medals
requirements. They count towards getting all of the Props, though. After
winning five (5) times with friends, for example, you would be able to
get the Crown Prop (5 wins), but you would not be able to receive the
Big Star Medal (5 wins). Keep that in mind when you are working through
everything. I'm pretty sure Nintendo/Game Freak did this to prevent easy
winning scenarios in the Musicals, making you actually have to try to win
and earn Props and Medals. Good intentions, but moderately frustrating.
The 10 Followers Medal is my least favorite Medal. There is little to no
information about this one anywhere, and what information that is out
there is mostly incorrect. As far as I am able to tell, as long as you
keep winning and doing well, you will eventually get it. I don't have an
exact number, but there a several underlying requirements to unlock this
one that I haven't been able to fully decipher yet. You don't have to
find three friends to do a four-way Musical because linked Musicals don't
count towards Medals. Serebii is adamant that the only requirement is 139
participations, but that's not completely true.
In my experimenting, I finally got that tenth follower after 222
Musicals, with 106 of those as wins. I did around 15 linked Musicals and
won around 12 of them, so my 'actual' Medal count was closer to 200
participations and 100 wins. My win/loss ratio is so bad because I
checked each Prop individually to reconfirm its type. I tell you all this
so that you won't get discouraged. Like I said before, just get all the
Props, win as many as you can, and you will eventually get there.
I believe in you!
I did manage to get ten followers with a four person linked Musical, but
since it was a linked Musical, it didn't count towards any Medals.
Linked Musicals take a little bit longer, but you can get more fans
after the Show finishes. This could help you collect all the Props
faster.
C. Performance Basics [PBCS]
------------------------------
On the first floor of the building, there are three receptionists. The
woman on the right lets you practice dressing up your Pokemon, and
nothing really else happens through her. This is the easiest way to count
your props and determine which ones you don't have, however. The lady in
the middle is going to be your main contact; talk to her to participate
in Musicals alone (meaning with three NPCs and no real-world friends).
The woman on the left lets you participate in Musicals with friends via
Wireless Communications. Sadly, Musicals are local only. You can't do
them over Wi-Fi.
Now you are ready to start performing in your first Musical! When you
talk to the woman in the middle, she will ask you to pick a Pokemon to
participate. I will go into more detail on picking a good Pokemon in the
Strategy section. She will then ask you to pick a show in which you want
to participate. Each show has a different style, different music, and
appeals to a different audience. The different styles are similar to the
styles from Competitions in previous games. You have access to four shows
initially (see Downloadable Content for more information on more Shows).

For each Show, the idea is to dress your Pokemon in Props that fit that
show's style (discussed in the Obtaining Props section).
The Unique Style is a little ambiguous. Different NPCs at different times
allude to the style as unique, quirky, or distinctive, but from what I have
found, they are essentially interchangeable. I have seen one performance
that had both a Quirky and Unique Pokemon, though. I will refer to this
Style as Unique for simplicity's sake.
After selecting your Show, you are led backstage and introduced to the
other participants and their Pokemon. Shortly after dressing up, your
Pokemon finally takes the stage along with the three other participants.
The Musical runs by itself, so you don't have to do anything to make it
go. Your Pokemon will dance a choreographed routine with the other
participants, matching dance moves to the Show and Style. You can use
certain Props to gain appeal and applause from the audience, or steal the
appeal from another Pokemon (more details in the Strategy section).
After a minute or two, the show will end, and the curtain will fall to
applause. You will be shown a picture you can save to view in the theatre
of all the Pokemon who played in the Musical. At least one of the Pokemon
in the picture will be jumping; that Pokemon got the most appeal points
and basically "won." Because the Musical is a group effort between all
the participants, "winning" isn't strictly necessary, but it is necessary
to collect all 100 Props. It is possible for a tie to happen, in which
case two Pokemon will be jumping at the same time. I have not seen a
three-way tie, though. There is usually one NPC who does really well
regardless of the Show, and that Pokemon will be your main competition.
Once the Show has been completed, you are given feedback from the
audience based on your performance in order of increasing appeal. In
other words, the person who did the worst will be addressed first, and
the person who "won" will be addressed last. You will be told the overall
style of your performance based on your Props. If you wore a lot of Props
from the same style, your Pokemon will most likely have performed in that
style.
You are thanked for your performance, and you return to the lobby. There
will be some new people standing in the lobby. These are your fans! As
you continue to participate and (hopefully) start to win Musicals, you
will keep getting more and more fans! The maximum number of fans is ten.
Gaining fans is important in collecting all of the Props and Medals.
There is a new feature you can use after you compete in a Musical. To the
left of the first floor, there is a trainer with a Krokorok who will tell
you the strengths and weaknesses of your latest performance and attire.
He will tell you what the overall style for your performance was. He will
also let you know if you had any redeeming/subdued characteristics, such
as an accent Prop or if you were missing a particular style. I have not
found a way to make him completely happy, and his opinion can change for
the same outfit in successive performances. He isn't that useful.
Now you can compete to your heart's content in Pokemon Musicals! To
collect all the Props and/or to actually start winning some of them, keep
reading.
D. Obtaining Props [OPRP]
---------------------------
There are a total of 100 different Props you can obtain in the game, each
with a distinctive style and placement on your Pokemon. That may sound
daunting, but it is possible to get all of them (and the resulting
Medal) in a couple hours.
The main way you obtain Props is from your fans after finishing a
performance. Simply talk to them, and if they loved your performance,
they will give you a Prop! Don't you worry; you can't get repeat Props.
You will only get new ones. When you first finish Musicals, you may have
one to three fans, but as you continue, more will join (to a max of ten).
It also might take a couple of times for your fans to start giving you
Props for your performance.
The general rule for getting Props from your fans is you get "Cool" Props
after participating in a "Cool" Show. The Prop you get is random, but
that doesn't really matter because the only use for the Prop is in the
Musicals anyways.
I mentioned earlier that winning isn't crucial to obtaining most of the
Props; you don't have to win to get Props from your fans. Winning helps
get you more fans quickly. The more fans you have, the more chances you
have to get Props, and the faster you can collect all of the random
ones. Winning isn't necessary for these, but it is helpful. There are a
total of 91 random Props.
If you participate with another person(s), after the Musical, the number
of fans that appear will match the highest number of fans for any other
participant. For example, I did a Musical with two other participants.
One person had nine followers, another had six, and the third had three.
After each performance, each participant had all nine followers. Once we
went back to playing individually, the followers receded back to their
normal numbers. This can be an extremely fast method of obtaining all the
random Props if you have the friends and/or other games.
There are a couple of Props that are slightly harder to achieve. There
are a total of 9 unlockable Props.
1. Electric Guitar
- Beat Preston the Musician on Route 5
2. Scarlet Hat
- Talk to Musical Fan in Opelucid City (daily event)
In Opelucid City, go to the left-most building. The Gentleman on the
first floor is a Musical fan; he will give you a free Prop once a day.
He gives you four different Props, and he won't give you any more after
that. It takes four days to get all the Props from him. These items are
all Santa-themed.
3. Fluffy Beard
- Talk to Musical Fan in Opelucid City (daily event)

- Talk to the Musical Theater Owner (Gentleman upstairs) after
participating in a Musical with a friend via Local Wireless
Communications
You have to complete this locally and not through Wi-Fi, which can be
annoying if you don't have any friends nearby who can play with you. Talk
to the receptionist on the left to setup a Musical with a friend(s). One
of you will be the host, and the other(s) will be the guest(s). Up to
four friends can participate at once, but any empty spots will be filled
by NPCs. Once you finish the Musical, simply go upstairs and talk to the
Musical Theater Owner to receive this Prop. You don't have to win the
linked Musical to earn this Prop.
7. Toy Cake
- Talk to the Musical Theater Owner (Gentleman upstairs) on your birthday
This is really simple. When it's your birthday, simply go upstairs and
talk to the Musical Theater Owner to receive this Prop. However, if your
birthday is months away, there is an easier way to do this. You could
change the date on your DS to your birthday, but that can mess with
various things. The best way to do this is to change your birthday on
your DS to today's current date. I wasn't able to find anything bad
caused by this method.
8. Crown
- Talk to the Musical Theater Owner (Gentleman upstairs) after "winning"
any 5 Musicals
Here is where actually winning is important. Once you win any 5 Musicals,
simply go upstairs and talk to the Musical Theater Owner, to receive this
Prop. Your wins thankfully do not have to be consecutive. Linked Musical
wins count towards this Prop.
9. Winner's Belt
- Talk to the Musical Theater Owner (Gentleman upstairs) after "winning"
any 10 Musicals
This Prop is only slightly more difficult because you have to win ten
Musicals total. The wins can all be from the same show, or they can be a
mix of any number of them. Ten is the magic number here. It is pretty
easy once you have enough Props, though. Once you win enough, simply go
upstairs and talk to the Musical Theater Owner to receive this Prop.
Linked Musical wins count towards this Prop.
E. Strategy [STGY]
--------------------
Now you know about the basics to obtaining the Props, so I will outline
the best ways I have found in order to get all 100 relatively quickly.
The first step is picking a Pokemon who is able to hold as many Props as
you can place. Pokemon that are humanoid work the best, especially
those that have two arms. Arms are the most important part to place Props
because they are used to gain extra appeal, which is definitely helpful
with winning. Find some humanoid Pokemon, and you'll be just fine. I
used Machamp, Scizor, and Dragonite and did very well.
The next step is picking your Show. The idea is to compete in all of the
shows and collect Props from your fans until they give you no more. You
have to compete in each of the different Shows to get all of the Props,
however. Generally, participating in the Stardom show nets you most, but
not all, of the Cool Props, but it will also give you some from the other
styles as well.
Once you have picked your Show and are able to dress up your Pokemon,
place as many Props from that Style on your Pokemon! There are a total of
eight placements: two arms, two ears, head, face, waist, and body. Not
every Pokemon can have all eight placements, however. Machamp can have
eight, but Victini apparently doesn't have a waist, for example. Solosis
can only hold three total and has no arms, for another example.
Regardless of how many Props your Pokemon can hold, if it has two arms,
you are in business. Also, I have seen winners who only had three total
Props, so the number of Props isn't that important, but every little bit
helps. The general rule is that more Props are better, so just make it
easy for yourself and load your Pokemon with Props.
Certain Props have multiple placements. Different placements don't have
any real effect, but they can allow you to place even more Props on your
Pokemon. For example, some of the Props can be placed on either the body
or the ear, and because many Props are body-only, the former can be
placed on the ear. The game tells you the primary placement in the
description of the item during dress-up, but it is not difficult to
determine if the Prop can be placed anywhere else.
Appealing at the correct times is the most important part of the Show. If
you don't appeal at all, it's considerably harder to win a Show. If your
Pokemon has a Prop in its arm(s), you can tap it on the bottom screen to
use it. Different Props do different animations, but they all achieve the
same result from my findings. To name a few Props actions, you can throw
a rose into the audience, spin an electric guitar, or produce sparks with
a magic wand.
You can appeal whenever you want during the show, but it works the best
when the spotlight is already focused on you. During the show, the
spotlight focuses on each of the Pokemon for a small time once, which is
a great time to use a Prop. You can appeal during any point of the show,
which can be successful as well. I've only ever won once without
appealing. It's not worth trying.
If another Pokemon appeals fast enough after another one, it can steal
the attention from the first Pokemon. This does not produce as much
appeal points or applause as regularly trying to appeal, but it prevents
the other Pokemon from gaining those points. The appeal can be stolen by
anyone who still has Props left. I have seen the appeal change focus four
times in a row in a single Show. I have found that it is not worth using
the Prop to try to steal the appeal or to try to gain appeal at a random
time because the AI will most likely steal it from you anyways.
The other spot to gain a large amount of appeal is the very last note
before the curtains drop. If you manage to get that without having it
stolen by the other Pokemon, it can get you a large amount of points. You
just need to be careful because the timing can be difficult, and the AI
can easily steal it from you because it knows exactly when the song will
end.
While the Musicals follow the same format and strategy as in their
original appearance, I have found it to be slightly more difficult to
consistently win. My strategy for Black/White was a single accent prop.
I have won with a completely wrong style (cute in Stardom) with the
accent Prop, but there were times when I would lose even if I was using
the correct style. The Krokorok dude led me to look into having more
than one accent Prop, and I suggest using multiple Props from across the
styles. I have even won a Musical with a perfectly balanced setup with
two Props from each of the four styles. To be fair, I did win once with a
completely Cool Prop setup without even appealing. The game mechanic is
silly. Make sure you have at least one or two accent Props, appeal when
the spotlight is on you and at the last possible second. You will win
almost every time using this method.
The strategy I developed over time based on in-game feedback expands on
the accent Props. I used four Props from the show's style, two Props from
the opposite style, and one from each of the other two. For example, in
Stardom, I would have four Cool (men) Props, two Cute (girls) Props, and
one of each of the Elegant (women) and Unique (boys) styles. I would
consistently get the highest feedback appraisal (see directly below) with
this setup. It still doesn't make the Krokorok dude happy, though.
*Alternative Strategy*
Here is the strategy ShinGouken devised and used successfully.
I made some observations during the 100+ times i participated and
believe I can guarantee a win every single time, regardless of what types
of Prop[s] you use, all by timing your appeal correctly.
Using an appeal at the end of the show is tricky to time and often leads
you into competition with other Pokemon who also aim for the last note. I
find that using an appeal as soon as the Musical begins also nets a lot
of points, is easier to time, and is very rarely, if ever, stolen by other
Pokemon.
I also believe that using an appeal when the spotlight is on your Pokemon
is not enough. You have to time it so that you use your appeal as soon as
the spotlight touches your Pokemon. Often, this will lead to your Pokemon
doing an additional flip or roll and always leads to a win.
I encourage you to try these methods yourself. Once i figured this out, I
won every Musical every single time, regardless of which Musical in which
I performed and never changed my Props (I used the same Prop set in every
Musical until I got 10 followers).
*End Alternative Strategy*
After the Musical finishes, the Musical Theater Owner will tell you what
Style your performance was, and he will give you feedback from the
audience. This flavor text can also indicate your amount of appeal as
well as your placement relative to the other performers.
"[Player Name]'s Dress Up performance was very distinctive! It was not
highly noticeable...But I liked it! Keep it up!"
-This is the worst you could do. You didn't even put a Prop on your
Pokemon. Shame, shame. I have, however, seen a 3rd place performance
get this rating. The Pokemon even had Props. Regardless, this is a very
bad performance rating.
"It was not highly noticeable...But I liked it! Keep it up!"
-You did not do very well. Your Props were not the right Style and you
probably didn't appeal at the right times or at all.
"It looked like your Pokemon was making an effort to live up to your
expectations. I will support your Pokemon on the side!"
-You did okay. You probably had a Prop or two and appealed at a right
time.
"Your Pokemon played its role very well."
-Pretty self-explanatory. Your Pokemon did well, but not amazing.
"Watching your Pokemon's sharp moves, I also felt ______!"
-You did pretty well! Your Pokemon did a good job with Props and appeals.
The Musical Theater Owner feels the same as the Style your Pokemon
displayed. It is possible to win with this performance.
"The Pokemon used Props to convey such abundant expression, just as if
they were actors!"
-You did very well! There isn't much more you can do to improve on your
performance. It is highly likely that you won the performance.
"In this Musical, it's not an overstatement to say that [your name]'s
Pokemon was the lead role."
-You have achieved the maximum amount of appeal! This is the highest
level of performance you can give. I have not seen a time where this has
been a losing performance.
Now that you know the secret to the Musicals, you can start winning all
the Props! Keep reading to find the complete list of all the Props with
their Styles and placements.
F. Props Lists [PLTS]

Here is a list of all the Props in the game in alphabetical order, along
with their Style and their Primary and Secondary Attachments. This
information was compiled by testing and performing with each item
individually to confirm each of the characteristics, all so you can know
the information is correct.
Unfortunately, the only way to know what Props you have is to enter the
dress up room and physically scroll through the items and count them.
There is no way to open the Prop Case outside of this, which can be a
little annoying. Hopefully these lists can help you keep track of all
your Props.

game, so this list will follow it counter-clockwise. This list is
especially useful for determining which Props you are missing. If you

Even though you are given four Musicals and can get all of the Props with
just those, there are extra(s) you can download from Global Link. There
are FAQs out there about getting setup with Global Link and the Dream
World, so I won't go into that.
Global Link usually has promotions that come and go, but there are no
special ones currently. There is one extra Musical that you can get
anytime, so don't worry. You have access to more than just the standard
four. Keep in mind that you can only have one extra Musical on your game
at any given time. I will be focusing on the ones available in the North
American release.
