What's this guide for?

Many users have requested a regular recruitment guide for Pokemon Mystery
Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. Through their
encouragements, this guide was written. It contains the locations where certain
pokemon can be recruited, along with how to improve your chances at recruiting
these pokemon and wondermails to unlock version-specific pokemon.

Warning: there are slight spoilers within this guide. Continue on at your own
risk.

I. How To Recruit [ReqRecr]
===========================

Unlike traditional Pokemon games, pokemon are not captured. They are
"recruited". Recruitment means that a after a pokemon is defeated, it asks you
if it can join your rescue team.

To recruit a Pokemon, only two conditions have to be met:

1. The team leader must strike the final blow.
2. The pokemon must be adjacent to you.

Unlike the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, party size no longer matters.
If a recruited pokemon is too large or there's already four members in your
party, the recruit is sent directly to the guild instead.

II. How To Increase Recruitment Chances [IncrRecr]
==================================================

Each pokemon has a set chance at being recruited. Evolved forms of pokemon have
a much lower recruitment chance than un-evolved forms. Some chances are in the
negative percentage!

Don't fret. There are ways to increase recruitment chances:

1. The leader's current level. You get a bigger recruitment bonus as your
leader's level increases, up to a 24% increase when your leader is Level 100.

The leader's level boosts recruitment rates like so:

Lv. 1-29 Bonus =  0.0%
Lv.30-39 Bonus = +5.0%
Lv.40-49 Bonus = +7.5%
Lv.50-59 Bonus = +10.0%
Lv.60-69 Bonus = +12.5%
Lv.70-79 Bonus = +15.0%
Lv.80-89 Bonus = +17.5%
Lv.90-100 Bonus = +24.0%

2. Recruit-boosting items. Having the leader hold certain recruit-boosting items
increases recruit rates.

Items that boost recruitment:

* Friend Bow - Can be found in Kecleon shops in the Zero Isle dungeons.
Increases recruitment chances by 10%.
* Golden Mask - Found in Zero Isle North B75F. Increases recruitment chances by
25%.
* Amber Tear - Found in Zero Isle West B40F. Increases recruitment chances by
25%.
* Aqua-Monica - Reward for defeating Kyogre in Bottomless Sea B50F. Increases
recruitment chances of water-type pokemon by 25%.
* Terra Cymbal - Reward for completing Shimmer Desert. Increases recruitment
chances of ground-type pokemon by 25%.
* Icy Flute - Reward for clearing Mt. Avalanche. Increases recruitment chances
of ice-type pokemon by 25%.
* Fiery Drum - Reward for clearing Giant Volcano. Increases recruitment chances
of fire-type pokemon by 25%.
* Grass Cornet - Reward for clearing Mystery Jungle. Increases recruitment
chances of grass-type pokemon by 25%.
* Rock Horn - Reward for clearing World Abyss. Increases recruitment chances of
rock-type pokemon by 25%.
* Sky Melodica - Reward for clearing Sky Stairway. Increases recruitment
chances of flying-type pokemon by 25%.

3. Fast Friend IQ skill. If your leader knows the Fast Friend IQ skill,
recruitment chances are boosted by 1%. Normally this wouldn't help very much,
but Kecleon has such a low recruitment rate that even with a max-level leader
wearing a Golden Mask, Kecleon would still have a negative recruitment rate
without Fast Friend.

III. Pokedex [PKDX]
===================

Now for the main purpose of this guide: where to find those pokemon.
This is the format:
[Pokemon number Pokemon] Where to find pokemon

Many of the pokemon entries have special characters beside them. Here is what
they mean:
(r) means the pokemon appears randomly on those floors. Pokemon locations are
not fixed in this game like it was in the original Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
game. Now the game draws from a master list made for each floor and randomly
picks certain pokemon on that list to appear on that floor.
(T) means it's a Time-exlusive pokemon. Normally it can only be recruited in
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Time.
(D) means it's a Darkness-exclusive pokemon. Normally it can only be recruited
in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Darkness.
(MP/SS) means that you must have the Mystery Part or Secret Slab in your
Treasure Bag before this pokemon will appear

V. FAQs [FAQ]
=============

Q. Can you recruit client pokemon?
A. Yes. On occasion, when you complete a mission, instead of an item reward the
client may offer to join your team.

Q. Which dungeons don't allow you to recruit pokemon?
A. Hidden Land, Temporal Tower, any of the future dungeons, Azurill's Nightmare
and the Zero Island dungeons do not allow for recruitment.

Q. Is there a limit to how many pokemon you can recruit?
A. Yes. You can only recruit up to 550 pokemon (not including the Hero and the
Partner).

Q. How many pokemon can you recruit in one dungeon/floor?
A. There is no real limit. Pokemon can be recruited as long as you haven't
reached the recruitment limit. However, there is a limit to how many pokemon
can appear on one floor at a time.

Q. How do you recruit Celebi in Darkness/Mewtwo in Time/Lopunny in Time/Lucario
in Darkness?
A. You can't. Celebi and Mewtwo are version exclusives. There are no known
wondermails that can unlock them. And as for Lucario and Lopunny, they can't be
a client in wondermail missions, so they can't be unlocked either.

Q. But I saw a friend who had Celebi in Darkness/Mewtwo in Time...
A. Sometime late 2008 Nintendo had offered two wifi missions, one to unlock
Celebi in Darkness and another to unlock Mewtwo in Time. Those missions have
since been taken down and can no longer be taken.

Q. I found a pokemon you said could not be recruited.
A. Which version of the game do you have? If you have the Time version of this
game, then that pokemon might be a Time exclusive that I haven't found yet.
Either that or I was just unlucky.

Q. You said I could recruit ----- at -----, but it wasn't there!
A. Which version of the game do you have? If you have the Time version of this
game, then that pokemon might be a Darkness exclusive pokemon.
