(2UYI) What’s a Seal? Unseal Your Imagination!
Seals are an interesting element added to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. They offer
no game play value, but they’re eye candy, and I enjoy it. Seeing them skimped
over in many other places, I thought I’d write my own guide about them.
At the time of this FAQ’s publishing, Seals do not seem to work if the Pokemon
is transferred to Pokemon: Battle Revolution.

(3StD) How to Get Seals: Sealing the Deal
Seals can be obtained in multiple ways, from my experience. Before being able
to put seals on a Poke Ball, you must own at least one Seal and the Seal Case
to keep the Seals in. The Seal case is given to you in Solaceon Town, so don't
worry about it until then. To get it, simply go north of the Pokemon Center,
talk to the the mother of the child that loves the Ruins. This person can be
reached be heading east after going north from the Center, and jumping off of
the second cliff, then down until you get to the house. Technically speaking,
you should never need more than 48 copies of a seal, given the max of 8 Seals
per Ball and 6 slots of your team. Purchasing more than 96 of a Seal is an
absolute waste.
The most common and easy way to obtain them is to purchase them from the store
located in Sunyshore, northwest of the Pokemart. The stock of Seals sold will
rotate every 24 hours to a new group of Seals you may or may not already own.
Seals seem to be irreversibly linked with the date on your DS’s internal
clock. If you want more of a seal, you must either wait for it to come around
again or return to the day you bought it and buy more. Personally, I buy 8 of
each new seal, test it, and buy more if I want to use them in more than one
Ball design. Seals cannot be sold back, so remember this if you go on a
spending spree. The rotation of seals works around a 7 day schedule, or at
least it seems to be true in my game; every Sunday, the same Seals are sold as
they were on the previous week's day.
Another way to get seals involves the Unown. For this, you must travel back to
Cowboy Land... I mean Solaceon Town. From there, proceed to the area behind the
Pokemon Center, follow it all the way to the east, jump down the cliffs in a
southeastern manner, and travel into the cave that is the Solaceon Ruins. Here,
you'll find all the Unown you could ever want in three chambers. To capture
them, I used a nice level 20 Kricketune I picked up that had Fury Cutter and
gave it the move False Swipe, as well as giving it the item Metronome to hold.
Then, I came armed with many Poke Balls and Great Balls (total of about 35 of
Poke, 10 Great), as well as Escape Ropes, Soda Pop (about 25), and Revives
(about 15). From here, I started my raid. The Unown vary in level from about
14 to 23, so be aware that your team is not over or underpowered to deal with
them. I was able to use Fury Cutter and False Swipe as needed to weaken them,
then followed up with basic Poke Balls for each. Also recommended if you want
to ensure your Unown catch, but don't mind spending 1000 PokeYen per ball, are
the Dark Ball, Quick Ball and, once you have at least one Unown, the Repeat
Ball.
Grab some Unown in the chamber found by going down the upper left or lower
right stairs, then go down the upper right stairs from the main hall. Talk to
the wee lad, and he'll ask you to stop by his house later for some neat Seals.
Do so when you wish to, leaving the Ruins to visit his house. Now, here's the
kicker: he doesn't tell you where his house is, and you have to bring the
Unown to him; catching them isn't enough. His house is the middle path of
cliffs northeast of the Pokemon Center. Have the Unown you wish to show as the
first Pokemon of your party, and enjoy your discussion.
If you normally talk to the boy, he'll only give you 10 seals for that letter,
but if you switch another Unown in your first position, and talk to the boy to
get 10 seals for the other letter, then you can switch back your first and get
more seals of that letter. Like, if you have an A Unown in your first slot and
a B Unown in your second, talk to the boy to get 10 A seals. Then switch the B
to your first slot and talk to him. You'll get 10 B seals...but if you then
switch the same A back to the first slot, you can get 10 more of the A seals.
As long as you have two Unown that you can get seals from, then you can show
the boy the first over and over as long as you show him the second inbetween.
Talk about bad memory. XD
Coincidentally, if you the follow the path correctly, the second floor will
have only F Unown, then only R, I... then E, N, and D... it spells out Friend.
Odd... The only reason I figured this out was that I only had D on the last
floor, and couldn't find any E, F, I, N, or R Unown. This could explain the
treasure trove of goodies found at the end of the dungeon, for the Unown's
FRIEND, but I'm getting off-track at this point... back to the Seals! In this
way, you will be able to use the Unown Seals from Solaceon Town and on.

(4PYS) Using Seals: Placing Your Seal
Seals can be accessed from any PC you can access your mail from. In short, go
to a blue PC (Pokemon Center, Day Care, etc.), then select the PC of your
character’s name. Then, go to “BALL CAPSULES”. You should see 12 different
Poke Balls. These correspond to the 12 different save file slots there are for
placing Seals.
Once you’ve entered the Seal menu, choose a Poke Ball to work with. Next, from
the menu on your left of Seals that you own, drag from the image that
represents it to a point on the ball you want to place it. You can move Seals
on the ball in this way as well. A ball may have no more than EIGHT seals on
it. When finished, choose to save it if you want to, or cancel if you don’t.
Seals can only be placed on the surface of that ball. Seals do not seem to
adhere to the curvature of the ball, but do appear from the location they are
places on the ball. The closer you place a Seal to the ball’s button, the
sooner the Seal will activate when the Ball opens. Confirm this when you are
finished to save your masterpiece.
With the design of your Seal's location all set, just select a Pokemon in your
party you want to use with it. Now, whenever you go into battle, you'll toss
your ball, and the Seals will activate. You'll see them on the back side of
your sprite, and your opponent will see them on the front. Savor every “ooh”
and “ah” you hear, if any. When they ask, "How'd you do that!?", you know what
to say.
To remove the Seals from your Pokemon, simply go to the place in the PC where
you put them on, select the Ball Capsule of the Pokemon you wish to move /
trade / deposit, and select Remove. The design of the Seal will still be there,
but you will now be able to move the Pokemon as you wish independent of the
Ball Capsule you designed.
In this section, I’ll give all the Seals I know of, their in-game description,
and any other information or opinions I have of them. As of version 1.00, I
have confirmed all store items AND Unown Letter Seals to be true and accurate,
as far as I can tell.
Heart Seals: The hearts released will swirl in a spiral in A-D, so it’s best to
know that they spin around the center of the Seal’s placement point. The hearts
will grow in size slightly, then shrink rapidly and disappear. Not my favorite,
but good for some of the cute Pokemon, I suppose.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Heart Seal A: “This Seal releases a cloud of small pink hearts.”
Heart Seal B: “This Seal releases a cloud of big pink hearts.”
Heart Seal C: “This Seal releases a cloud of small black hearts.”
Heart Seal D: “This Seal releases a cloud of big black hearts.”
Heart Seal E: “This Seal releases a cloud of pink hearts that float up a
little.”
Heart Seal F: “This Seal releases a cloud of pink hearts that float up.”
Star Seals: You remember some cartoons and comics when someone gets hit hard,
and stars go flying away from a point? Well, that’s what the Star Seal does.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Star Seal A: “This Seal releases a few popping yellow stars.”
Star Seal B: “This Seal releases many popping yellow stars.”
Star Seal C: “This Seal releases a few popping blue stars.”
Star Seal D: “This Seal releases many popping blue stars.”
Star Seal E: “This Seal releases a few popping stars in changing colors.”
Star Seal F: “This Seal releases many popping stars in changing colors.”
Line Seals: Hard for me to describe, but I’ll try. A few rectangles will fly
away from a central point. Not really a line in my opinion, but whatever.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Line Seal A: “This Seal releases white lines that spread out.”
Line Seal B: “This Seal releases yellow lines that spread out.”
Line Seal C: “This Seal releases black lines that spread out.”
Line Seal D: “This Seal releases blue lines that spread out.”
Smoke Seals: A few fluffy white clouds will poof out from the point of the Seal
and drift upward. One of the better Seals, in my opinion.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Smoke Seal A: “This Seal releases a towering cloud of white smoke.”
Smoke Seal B: “This Seal releases a towering cloud of black smoke.”
Smoke Seal C: “This Seal releases a cloud of white smoke.”
Smoke Seal D: “This Seal releases a cloud of black smoke.”
Ele-Seals: A bit tacky looking, in my opinion. The could have made them look a
bit more like lightning from those plasma balls, and less like the Lightning
Energy symbol from the Trading Card Game.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Ele-Seal A: “This Seal releases yellow bolts of electricity upward.”
Ele-Seal B: “This Seal releases green bolts of electricity upward.”
Ele-Seal C: “This Seal releases yellow bolts of electricity downward.”
Ele-Seal D: “This Seal releases green bolts of electricity downward.”
Foamy Seals: Some bubbles will be propelled from the point the Seal was placed.
My Muk has one with 8 Foamy Seal Ds on it. It’s rather amusing.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Foamy Seal A: “This Seal releases a small number of blue bubbles.”
Foamy Seal B: “This Seal releases many blue bubbles.”
Foamy Seal C: “This Seal releases a small number of pink bubbles.”
Foamy Seal D: “This Seal releases many pink bubbles.”
Fire Seals: Not really fire... more like fuzzy or hazy alpha gradient
circles... but I really like them. One of my favorite seals.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Fire Seal A: “This Seal releases a small amount of orange flames.”
Fire Seal B: “This Seal releases a lot of orange flames.”
Fire Seal C: “This Seal releases a small amount of blue flames.”
Fire Seal D: “This Seal releases a lot of blue flames.”
Flora Seals: A few petals will be thrown in a direction from the location of
the Seal and drift downward into disappearing.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Flora Seal A: “This Seal releases a shower of pink flower petals.”
Flora Seal B: “This Seal releases pink flower petals.”
Flora Seal C: “This Seal releases a shower of purple flower petals.”
Flora Seal D: “This Seal releases purple flower petals.”
Flora Seal E: “This Seal releases a shower of yellow flower petals.”
Flora Seal F: “This Seal releases yellow flower petals.”
Party Seals: YAAAAAAAAAAAY CONFETTI! I’m tempted to make jokes about Party
Balls from Super Smash Brothers: Melee and Super Monkey Ball. A few flakes of
confetti spring outward from the Seal and drift down into disappearing.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Party Seal A: “This Seal releases a cloud of red confetti.”
Party Seal B: “This Seal releases a cloud of blue confetti.”
Party Seal C: “This Seal releases a cloud of yellow confetti.”
Party Seal D: “This Seal releases a cloud of white confetti.”
Song Seals: One musical note will spring away from the Seal in a random
direction. Interesting... Not useful for many, but interesting. Best used with
other Song Seals.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Song Seal A: “A green Seal featuring a treble clef design.”
(The symbol is that of one treble clef.)
Song Seal B: “A red Seal featuring a musical note design.”
(The symbol is that of one quarter note.)
Song Seal C: “An orange Seal featuring a musical note design.”
(The symbol is that of one quarter note.)
Song Seal D: “A yellow Seal featuring a musical note design.”
(The symbol is that of one eighth note.)
Song Seal E: “A blue Seal featuring a musical note design.”
(The symbol is that of one eighth note.)
Song Seal F: “A lime grean Seal featuring a musical note design.”
(The symbol is that of one half note.)
Song Seal G: “A navy blue Seal featuring a musical note design.”
(The symbol is that of two connected eighth notes.)
Unown Seals: Umm... Ummmmm... They're letters. And... you get them from a kid.
Show the kid an Unown, and he'll give you 10 Letter Seals that correspond to
the letter of Unown you let him see. Showing the ! and ? Unown yield the Shock
and Mystery Seals. They rotate or wiggle slightly, then disappear. They seem
to be unaffected by the general out to in principle that most other seals
appear in. I can already see them being used in inappropriate ways... The
letters themselves have a rounded appearance to them, though not as much as the
Unown happen to be... the ends of them are rounded, like how Unown I's tips
are, but they don't have the Unown's eyes or radical distortion.

The ! and ? Unown are available by going to the Ruin Maniac in a cave south of
Veilstone City, on the western wall of Route 214. It's a small cave on the
northwestern part of that Route. From there, you can access a place with the !
and ? Unown. It's a solitary chamber, isolated from the rest of the ruins. On
the north wall, in Unown font, it says "?!". Walking around the chamber will
lead to battles with the ? and ! Unown there.

(6SwK) Seal Designs: Sealed with a Kiss
Here, I’ll put a few of the Seal designs I’ve used. Hopefully, they’ll inspire
you to make some of your own, or you can copy mine. I don’t really mind.
Pansy Ball:
Used by my female Machamp, named Pansy. Ball captured in: Heal Ball. Downward
curving line (like the mouth of a smiling face) of five Flora Seal Bs at top
of the ball, edges of the Seal’s circles touching each other. Middle of Seal
arc is 50% between top and button of ball. 3 Smoke Seal As on bottom surface
of ball: one is one Seal-length below the button (top of Seal touching bottom
of button), one on left and one on right, with middle of Seal centered on
bottom of button, but on edge of ball. Be amused. :P
Specter Ball:
Used by my male Gengar, named Specter. Ball captured in: Dusk Ball. Six-Seal
Triforce design of Fire Seal Cs with one Fire Seal D on the button of the
ball. Makes for a dramatic flare, especially with any Ghost captured in a Dusk
Ball. Rather cool, in my opinion.
Confetti Ball:
Used by my male Torterra. Ball: Poke Ball. Honeycomb pattern of 7 Party Seal
Cs. I... couldn’t think of anything better at the time. Still, I kind of like
it.
Gastly Ball:
A design I came up with for a friend who wants to keep his Gastly a Gastly.
Perplexing, I know. Ball: Dusk Ball. Honeycomb of 8 Fire Seal Ds.
Old ball/Failing ball
"A ball that looks like it is broken or something. It comprises of 6 smoke
seal D's and 2 fire seal D's. The smoke seals line the outside, forming
triangles on the top and bottom. The fire seals cover the middle, on the edge.
The ball looks like it is smoking and sparking, and can barely contain the
Pokemon. Really cool."
