I. Introduction
===============================================================================
This FAQ/Walkthrough contains a complete guide to the areas and enemies in the
game. Many of the steps can be skipped if you don't need that extra, mostly
uesless healing item, quest item, or equipment you already bought.
This FAQ/Walkthrough is currently missing a complete listing of Jobs, stat and
effect data for equipment for Lucia and Rufus, and the items drops for Vile
Castle (1). If you have this information, don't e-mail me. I'll add it in next
update.
If you find any typos, mistakes, or other errata, please feel free to mail me
at the address listed in the Administrivia section of this FAQ.
Thank you,
darklao

IV. Beginner's Tips [BEGTIP]
===============================================================================
1. Levels are your friend... kind of.
Enemy strengths, including their stats and AC rewards, are based on your own
levels, and on the area in the game they're in. This applies to bosses as well.
Enemies in the first area, for instance, can have anywhere from 20 - 70 HPs,
depending on your levels. Enemies in the last area are *significantly* harder
to beat, the higher your levels. Bosses' HPs can fluctuate quite a bit based on
your levels. It is in your best interest to do any leveling you can to open
blue chests or pop a few levels for a new character, but not much beside that.
2. Equipment is definitely your friend!
Because enemy strength is based on your levels, your equipment, especially your
weapons, are of the utmost importance. Especially late in the game, when more
than half your ATK power will be coming from your weapon, and enemy HPs are
based on the expectation that you'll have up-to-date equipment. I've marked
interludes in the walkthrough at places where it's convenient to do some jobs
for the cash to upgrade your gear.
3. Save early, save often. Breakage sucks.
Abadons, Duagers, Phantoms, and Quetzalcoatl enemies can break your equipment.
They're in pretty much every area beyond the first few. Though a Termite card
can protect you for one battle, it has limited uses, and will never be enough
to protect you completely. Get in the habit of saving every few battles. Most
of the equipment in the game is purchasable if broken, but not all of it, and
it will take more time and effort than any sane person would like. Save save
save save save. And of course it is in your best interest to kill these enemy
types, when possible, before they get a chance to hit.
4. Cards make boss battles stupid easy.
In addition to item drops when fighting in Combat mode, enemies rarely drop
their special card. These cards act like wands, casting spells or creating
effects on the map. They have a limited number of uses before you have to
reload by fighting for another card. Not only do they supply all the HP and MP
restoration you'll need for the whole game, the buff and debuff spells (the
ones that drop enemy stats and raise your own), applied en masse, will pretty
much reduce most boss battles to you dealing huge damage and the boss dealing
less than 1 percent of your total HP each hit. Also, all bosses can be blinded
or poisoned. Poison will do a reliable 5% of the total HP, so you can do some
quick math to see how much HP the boss has at your levels. Also, if *you* get
blinded, a Bealzebub card will allow you to hit 100%, so it's better than a
cure and lasts for the whole combat.
Noteworthy cards:
Increase attack:
Insector - Increase damage to monster [Combat]
Abadon - Lower monster's defense [Combat]
Bealzebub - Attack will definitely hit. [Combat]
Decrease damage:
Quetzalcoatl - Lower monster attack [Combat]
Ochu - Reduce damage from monster [Combat]
Duager - Lower all monster status [Combat]
Enigma - Lower monster's intelligence [Combat]
Comet - Increase entire party's INT [Combat]
Inflict status:
Asmodee - Send monster into darkness [Combat]
Shreeker - Poison a monster. [Combat]
Avoid combat:
Ice Mongrel - Definitely escape from battle [Combat]
Ghoula - Symbols flee for a brief period [Field]
Recover HP:
Namia - Recover HP each time you move [Combat]
Vitra - Fully recover entire party's HP [Combat/Field]
Shaitan - Totally heal all fallen party members [Combat]
Recover MP:
Gloomwing - Recover MP on the map for a brief period [Field]
Hellbird - Fully recover entire party's MP [Combat/Field]
Kuntukapu - Recover MP each time you move [Combat]
Generally speaking, you should keep these cards loaded before you venture into
any new area. Your priority for card use in combat should be: Duager, Ochu,
Comet, Enigma, and Quetzalcoatl. These cards are more effective at reducing
damage than any of the healers' protective spells, so do them first.

Head back to Perit Village. Enter Gad's Express, complete delivery.
Talk to Enos again [100S].
F. Interlude (1) [WLK--F]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now is an excellent time to do some deliveries and fight for items and cards.
Try to complete the card list, as many of the card buffs come in handy in boss
fights without using Lucia's MPs. Buy the most expensive equipment in both
shops and anything that causes or protects vs. status effects. Even the ones
for characters you haven't got yet, as they'll be very useful if you have them
ready. Take your time, see the sights, make some money. It'll be worth it in
the long run.
G. Thieve's Woods (3) [WLK--G]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Return to Theives' Woods, exit south and then NW and head west and south
across the bridge. Toggle Virtue Mode On. Clear enemies. All northwest, open
blue chest [Strong Umbrella]. All southwest, south before bridge, cross log,
open chest [Healing Gum]. Cross bridge, exit area.
H. Healriz (1) [WLK--H]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Head to Balbo's House 2F and talk to Evelina. Head to Leoncavallo's House and
talk to Leoncavallo. Head to Western Healriz, Restaurant, talk to Lucrezia,
head to Inn 1F, talk to Aaron. Return to Eastern Healriz, Leoncavallo's House,
talk to Marcella. Leave village from Western Healriz, enter Roland Forest.
I. Roland Forest (1) [WLK--I]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Toggle Combat Mode On. Head directly west into the wall of the forest. Follow
path to chest [Healing Gum]. Return, head south, go down ramp. Follow main
path to second dirt patch. At the small rock after the mushrooms, head south
into the forest. Follow path to chest [Alert Ring]. Head into far northwest
corner, enter cave. Toggle Virtue Mode On. North at intersection to chest
[Healing Gum]. Clear enemies. In far southwest corner is blue chest
[Protection Ring]. Return to Healriz.
J. Healriz (2) [WLK--J]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eastern Healriz, Leoncavallo's House, talk to Leoncavallo twice. Return to
Roland Cave
K. Roland Cave [WLK--K]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Toggle Combat Mode On. Head into the far northwest to fight Armored Boar.
BOSS FIGHT: Armored Boar
SpAtk: Confusion
Drops: Counter Type 1, Mental Drop, Armored Boar Card
Tips: Equip anti-Confusion equipment. Spam attacks with Jian, have Lucia use
card effects, esp. Insector. I recommend you save right before the fight, and
be at least level 12. Even at 12 with the best equipment, if the Boar gets
lucky with a critical hit or zero misses, you'll be hosed. If he gets a
confuse on Lucia, you'll be hosed. This can happen rarely even through
protective equipment. Just pop an Insector and have Lucia heal and layer on
the buff spells. The card isn't a 100% drop, so be prepared to reload for it.
L. Healriz (3) [WLK--L]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Return to Eastern Healriz, Leoncavallo's House, talk to Leoncavallo.
M. Interlude (2) [WLK--M]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is another excellent time to do some jobs, make sure you've bought all of
the coolest/best equips, built up some cash, and bought a few Healing Drops
from the Item Shop--because there's a big boss fight coming up, three of them
actually, solo as Jian, with no healing between. Make sure you have at least
three uses left on your Namia and Insector cards, and at least one Bealzebub
use. Level 12 is fine for this. If you can take the Armored Boar, you shouldn't
have much trouble here.
Head to Western Healriz, Sun Coliseum, Save, talk to receptionist.
BOSS FIGHT: Raft
Drops: Healing Drop*2, Raft Card
Tips: First turn Namia, second turn Insector. Thereafter, attack and heal as
necessary. Should be pretty straight-forward.
BOSS FIGHT: Sharif
Drops: Healing Drop*2, Sharif Card
Tips: Again, first turn Namia, second turn Insector, then attack and heal.
You'll be doing more healing this round, as Sharif has a big attack that he
sometimes uses repeatedly. If he blinds you, just pop a Beazlebub card. Try to
keep track of his damage (he'll have in the neighborhood of 500 HPs, depending
on your level), and be as healed as possible when you finish him, so you can
start the next fight strong.
BOSS FIGHT: Moran
Drops: Mental Drop*2, Moran Card
Tips: Here's the real trial. Moran has a Poison special, so you should be
wearing the Antidote Bandana, and more troubling, he has an attack that can
destroy equipment. First turn Namia, second turn Insector, unless you need to
heal. Be liberal with uses of Healing Drop, as he can hit as hard as 50+ per
round. When you can, attack. Just be conservative, and you'll take him out.
Equip Gabi with decent stuff. Head to Port Searis. Toggle Virtue On and fight
everything on the way to get Gabi some levels.
N. Port Searis [WLK--N]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Head to Loto Pier, talk to Hyman. Head to Shell Pier (center island).
O. Port Obleage [WLK--O]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carducci's House, talk to Carducci.
P. Interlude (3) [WLK--P]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For sale in the Port Obleage Central open space is quite a number of delivery
items. You can actually complete "From Roland Forest" "To Decorate My Room"
and "A Craving For Pottery," each of which has about a 3000S reward, entirely
with purchaseable items, at this point in the game. It's probably worth it to
do some runs and buy up the latest eq.
Checkpoint. Talk to Guards. Carducci's House, talk to Carducci. Leave town,
enter Cathedral of Althena.
Q. Cathedral of Althena [WLK--Q]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enter Cathedral. Head through doors. Head northeast to intersection, head
southeast through door. Open chest in corner [Amethyst]. Leave room, head
northwest through door. Open chest in corner [Aura]. Heal and save. Leave
room. Head northeast up stairs, examine statue, then southeast to stairs, go
up, go though door.
BOSS FIGHT: Deuce
SpAtk: Sleep, Confuse
Drops: Red Orb, Mental Drop, Deuce Card
Tips: I recommend putting the Alert Ring on Jian so he can just pound away.
Use Lucia for card and spell buffs and heals, and Gabi to attack. You should
have no problems with up to date equips and Jian and Lucia at level 14 and
Gabi at 10 or 11.
After fight, cross room to stairs, go down.
BOSS FIGHT: Deuce
SpAtk: Sleep, Confuse
Drops: White Orb, Mental Drop, Deuce Card
Return to main room. Head northwest to stairs, go up, enter door.
BOSS FIGHT: Deuce
SpAtk: Sleep, Confuse
Drops: Black Orb, Mental Drop, Deuce Card
Cross Room. Head down stairs.
BOSS FIGHT: Deuce
SpAtk: Sleep, Confuse
Drops: Blue Orb, Mental Drop, Deuce Card
Return to main room. Head to Althena Statue in center. Insert orbs. Head
northeast up stairs, enter door.
BOSS FIGHT: Gronk
SpAtk: Petrify
Drops: Counter Type 2, Angel Ring (rare!), Gronk Card
Tips: Equip the Amethyst to Lucia so she can keep the party free of petrify
with Cure Squall. Spend the first few rounds buffing with spells and cards.
Particularly useful in this combat is an Enigma card, which will reduce the
effectiveness of Gronk's attacks and heals by dropping its INT. Same levels
for Deuce fights are good here (14/14/10). As long as you drop its INT and
have up-to-date equips, this guy should be cake.
Head forward and up stairs to door.
BOSS FIGHT: Beast King Zethos
Drop: Lucky Ring, Zethos Card
Tips: Start with an Asmodee Card to blind, then Namia to heal. After that,
whatever Cards you want (Beazlebub, Insector, debuffs) until he does the
weird blue magic which unlocks your multi-hit. Then just rock him. The
blindness makes this guy laughable.
Re-enter Zethos Castle, head all the way to the back, talk to the King and
Ezekiel. Pisano Square, view scene. Leave town. Enter Sungrid Bridge.
R. Interlude (4) [WLK--R]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now is a good time to stock up on cash. If you can get 20-30 thousand, it will
benefit you greatly. When you're ready, head to Sungrid Bridge.
S. Sungrid Bridge (1) [WLK--S]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow path to switch. Hit switch, enter door, get chest [Holy Bracelet].
Continue to next screen. Toggle Virtue mode on. Clear enemies. Follow path to
Blue Chest [Barrier Ring]. Head to next screen. Clear enemies. Follow path to
four pillars. Activate the switch to the northwest, continue southwest on path
to open door. Enter and hit switch. Leave and go up ladder to chest [Healing
Gum]. Return to first switch, head southeast to ladder. Go down. North to Blue
Chest [Holy Umbrella]. Southwest to door, enter for two chests [Goddess Robe]
[Rainbow Tiara]. Return to path, head to next screen. Equip Lucia with basic
Ring. Follow path forward to plot.
T. Lind Village [WLK--T]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Equip Flora, south to heal/save. Back to door. Follow path south to town. Buy
antidotes at Item shop, any equipment upgrades you can afford. Leave village.
Enter Guystole Mine.
U. Guystole Mine [WLK--U]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Virtue Mode on. Clear enemies. Follow path south, then south again to pit
area for chest [Topaz]. Return north, cross bridge northwest. Next bridge,
head north for Blue Chest [Panther Gauntlet]. Continue to next screen. Clear
enemies. Take east fork to Blue Chest [Guardian Ring]. Take west path to pits,
head to east corner for chest [Healing Drop]. Head north to upper rim, then
southwest to path onward. Continue to southern exit to get to next screen.
Clear enemies. Follow path east, head up stairs to chest [Tourmaline].
Continue on path to intersection, head northeast to chest [10000S]. Return to
intersection, head southwest. Ignore wooden bridge, continue southwest to room
with blue chest [Platinum Wristband]. Continue SE to exit.
V. Sandra Desert [WLK--V]

BOSS FIGHT: Black Dragon/Dark Jian
Drop: Earth Ring, Black Dragon Card, Dark Jian Card
Tips: Begin with Comet/Enigma/Duager cards. Have Jian and Gabi start attacking
while Flora uses Grand Shell and other buff/debuff cards. Heal as needed until
Dark Jian appears. Dark Jian mimics whatever Jian does, so have Jian start
with Shreeker to counter Dark Jian's heals, and have Gabi and Flora replace
the buff/debuff spells. When you're ready, have Jian use basic attacks and
Gabi and Flora fight normally. If you get in trouble, just have Jian pop cards
until you're safe, and start fighting again. Just don't use Jian's special
and you're golden.
JJ. East Moto Rainforest (1) [WLK-JJ]

map, enter Moto Rainforest. Virtue Mode on. Clear enemies. Head SW into the

cliff to the chest [Healing Gum] and blue chest [Amulet]. Return east and head

enemies. Follow path north and NE across islands to blue chest [Crystal
Haircomb]. Head back NW along path until a little path heads SW toward a
wall. Follow the hidden path south through to wall to the chest [Magic
Booster]. Return north and exit NW to next screen. This room is basically one
huge loop you'll be in and out of. Head all the way east from the entrance to
the SW exit. Virtue Mode on. Clear enemies. (You may have to leave and re-
enter to do this.) Open blue chest [Refresh Ring]. Examine small rock (looks
like a little blue volcano) to activate it. Return to main room. Follow path
all the way north and then east to the next entrance. Virtue Mode on. Clear
enemies. Blue chest [Prayer Water]. Examine small rock. Return to main room.
Follow the path all the way west and south around to the next entrance in the
SW corner. Virtue Mode on. Clear enemies. Blue chest [Mental Drop]. Examine
small rock. Return to the main room. Continue SW around loop, pass the
entrance and take the first north path to the entrance to the boss room.
BOSS FIGHT: Blue Dragon
Drops: Tidal Ring, Blue Dragon Card, Jian Card
Tips: This fight comes in two phases, first Jian must fight solo for a few
rounds against the dragon. You can either advance the combat by dying, or by
surviving about three rounds. (If Jian dies, he'll enter the next phase of the
combat with 1 hp). When the next round starts, use Flora to heal Jian, if
necessary, then use her to either heal or use buff spells. Don't waste time
with debuff cards, as you won't hit the water drops for more than a round,
and the Dragon's hardest attacks only do as much as a drop does anyway. Spam
Inferno with Jian and Gale Wind with Gabi to keep the drops from attacking--
they're the major threat. If Jian gets low, pop a Hellbird card with Flora to
be sure both he and Gabi can attack all enemies each round. The dragon will
die naturally as you keep the drops down.
Cast escape, head through West Moto Rainforest to Rebric Village. Head to
Tovia's house and talk to him, say you don't know about the Blue Dragon Cave.
Head back through West Moto to Blue Dragon Cave. Head up into the main room.
Head west and north around to the orange flowers. Examine them to get
[Anthodite]. Exit out and head back to Rebric, then out the east entrance to

the stairs. Go up. Virtue Mode on. Clear enemies. Head NE to the gap between
the pipes, go through, head NE to the wall and SE to the blue chest [Angel's

Head SE along the wall to the stairs and up. Get the chest [Healing Ring] and
return to the floor below. Head SW to the corner and NW up the stairs. Virtue
Mode on. Clear enemies. Head SE to corner and north to blue chest [Champion's
Uniform]. Return to the entrance and head back down, then around the room to
the north stairs. Go down. Head west to the middle stairs. Go up. Head NE to

PP. Negri Ocean Lab [WLK-PP]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The falling walls and acid pools will hurt you a little. You should avoid
them, if only to avoid getting into combats with enemies. Combat Mode. Head
northeast and into the east corner. The exit isn't very apparent, just head
into the wall. Cross east to the exit. Head through the exit in the SE wall,
grab the south [Gaos' Necklace] and east chest [Glasses]. Return to the last
room and head through the NE exit. Hit the switch and return to the last room,

examine the pad in the center.
QQ. Sungrid Bridge (2) [WLK-QQ]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enter and leave Lind Village. Enter Sungrid Bridge. Hit switch. Leave. Enter
and leave Leephon City. Enter Sungrid Bridge. Head all the way to the room
with the dead Beastmen, and take the SE ladder down to the door. Go in, hit
the switch, and backtrack along the bridge to the place where you have to
scale a high ladder NE onto a rampart. There'll be a ladder SE down to the
previously locked door. Go inside for the chest [Angel Ring], then cast escape
to leave.
RR. Interlude (6) [WLK-RR]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yay. You can now go to most of the places on the map. Do some jobs to make some
cash and be sure to maximize your equipment in Rebric. When you're ready, head
to Vile Castle, SW of Cathedral of Althena.
SS. Vile Castle (2) [WLK-SS]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Head NW into castle, head NW up the big stairs. From here, the entire castle
is a single path. Head up through two rooms to a door, through a big room,
through a long hallway, save, and into the final room. Head NW up stairs to
Gideon.
BOSS FIGHT: Gideon
SpAtk: Sleep
Drop: Counter Type Final, Angel Ring (rare), Gideon Card
Tips: Gideon's attack is INT-based, despite the obvious physicality of it, so
start with Enigma and Comet, then proceed to other buff/debuff cards, using
Jian and Gabi to attack and Flora to assist. He can hit pretty hard before you
drop cards, so watch everyone's HP.
Head NW up the stairs, then exit out the south wall to the outside of the
castle. This room has four exits, one in each corner. Exit NE and cross the
bridge east through the door. Virtue Mode on. Clear enemies. When they're
clear you'll be teleported to a room with a chest [Gideon 3 Card]. Head west
back to the outside of the tower. Exit SE and head east. Clear enemies. A Mad
Fang card can help you draw the enemies to you if they're on the water parts.
Open chest [Ignatius Card]. Return west to outside of castle, exit SW and head
west. Clear enemies. Open chest [Rufus Card]. Return to outside of castle,
exit NW, cross bridge. Clear enemies. Open chest [Althena Card]. Return to
outside of castle and head back in through the door in the middle. Save. FYI,
this is the point of no return. Walk onto the altar.
BOSS FIGHT: Gideon 2
Drop: Angel Ring, Gideon 2 Card?
Tips: Again, he's mostly a caster, so start with Comet and Enigma. Proceed to
other cards and spells. Pound the crap out of him, use Flora to heal.
You'll be ported to a staircase. Heal at the statue and head upstairs.
BOSS FIGHT: Gideon 3
Tips: Tell me if you heard this one: Cards, pound, heal. No seriously. The
only thing about this fight is that he has twice the HP of anything else, so
it will take a while, but it's as straightforward as they come.
Head west down the stairs to the exit, then cross SW out the door. The end.

VI. Delivery Guide [DELGDE]
===============================================================================
Job Tips [JOBTIP]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Do the job you already have the stuff for.
Even filling one missing item can take an hour if it's a rare drop on a rare
enemy. Do the jobs you already have the items for.
2. Reload the list.
If you cancel all the way out and go back into the Gad's menu, you can get new
quests on the list.
3. Local deliveries are better.
Until the very end of the game, after the point where you really need to be
doing jobs at all, you'll make money much faster by doing a job with an easy
target. It's faster even to keep refreshing the list until you get the right
job in the same or nearby town than it is to track through even one area.
4. Port Obleage, Central open space has shops that sell job items.
I mention this in the walkthrough interludes, but there are a few quests with
about 3000S rewards that have item requirements that can be filled in Port
Obleage central open space shops for about 300S. Get to know Jay and Edna.
They're arguably the most helpful NPCs in the game. It's well worth it to make
money to buy 99 of each of their items and then make thousands of silver very
quickly.
Job List [JOBLST]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***Forthcoming***
Job reward is roughly = Sum of item values * (20 + x)/2, where x = location
modifier (for delivery in same town, x = 0).
Healriz <-> Perit <-> Searis ? Obleage ? Leephon ? Noapoeace ? Rebric
Rewards in brackets are base rewards for same town delivery.
To Gad's Express reward varies by location and delivery level. Reward is about
base 300 for level 1, 500 for level 2...
It takes 4 level one deliveries to open up level 2 jobs. The delivery counts
at the Gad's you TURN IN the receipt at, not where you get the job or where
you deliver the items.
