Pleased to see you reading this FAQ.
I haven't done a full on walkthrough yet, and thought this game was kinda cute
playing through it part-way through the game. So yay, this would be my first
endeavor in writing a full length FAQ. So, I'm not going into the story here,
rather let you play it for yourself and read that.
Although I'm naming the enemies when the game outright mentions them, I'll be
leaving why they're fighting you to the game's dialogue. Unless that skip
button's getting ample use, then I guess it doesn't matter quite as much in
a case such as that.
So yeah, hope you enjoy the game and find this guide useful. Good luck!

III. Walkthrough FAQ [firestar]

Battle Basics:
NW /\/\ NE This is how the game will pro'ly look. Let's assume the enemy is
\/\/ in the center square facing up and right (let's call it NorthEast
/\/\ or NE for short). Ideally, you'll want to be in the SW square to
SW \/\/ SE attack for the best damage, but getting to NW or SE is fine, too.
So, the reason for this is to deal the highest amount of damage you can do in
the span of a single turn. A frontal assault (attacking from NE) could allow
a miss, while doing the least amount of damage. Attacking from the back (SW)
reliably increases your hit rate and allows for the most amount of damage.
For the NW and SE squares, it's somewhere in the middle when you're coming
in for an attack from the sides. Should make some intuitive sense too, so
remember that if you need it.
Elevation also plays a role; the higher you are, the harder you hit. If
you're on a lower plane when being attacked, you'll take more damage. After a
while, these "rules" should come as second nature. In essence, get behind and
on higher ground when attacking.

Strategy: Add Rasche and Rina to the battle. Focus on the RedGolems first
since the other enemies won't attack for now, but try and stay
away from the stairs since the Succubus can use arrows. The
BlueBombs will start making their move after you take out one
RedGolem. Once you're attacking the BlueBombs, keep your party
spread apart since the BlueBombs can explode, taking out a good
chunk of HP; they only explode when they've taken damage, so try
and beat them one at a time before they can take an action. The
Succubus will start moving after at least two BlueBombs are
defeated. Fatima then starts moving after one Succubus is
defeated. Then focus your attacks on her, using Roland's Engage
if Althea is still alive. If not, just keep pressing Fatima.

Strategy: Focus on getting rid of the Reptoids and the eventual Goblins
first. The Goblins will spawn on the edges of the map, the sides
where your party and Radley *don't* start on (NW/SE). Once you're
left with just Radley and the D Beetle, focus on taking down
Radley since their turns shouldn't be coming up as often to do
much damage to you. If you need some extra experience for a
character, go ahead and defeat the D Beetle before Radley as well.

Strategy: You can ignore the Crabs and Pip for the time being. Pip will use
Cure on himself when he's getting low on health and attacks the
Crabs from time to time. Bring Dia to the left side, where the
D Fiend is, and make use of her Bright Arrow there. Split the
rest of your team up to make their way down to Pip. I like to
bring Rina and Althea down the right side, toward the Minotaur
with everyone else heading the other way. Once each group takes
care of the enemies in their way, attack the Crabs, mostly with
distance attacks (magic, arrows, Rasche's spear) since they like
to crowd around Pip. Just be careful not to attack Pip using
Rasche's spear.

Strategy: Add everyone and try to hug the top edges. You want to draw the
Wizards toward you rather than let them stay on their "island"
and hit you with spells from there. I tend to bring Althea and
Dia to the right, with Roland, Rasche, Rina and Pip heading left
to deal with the DBots and the Wizards that tend to follow them.
On the right, I tend to have Dia lead (she's a leader, right?) to
take most of the attacks, keeping Althea fairly safe. Then let
most of those enemies come within range and use your spells on
them. On the left, I keep Rina back so she can snipe with her
arrows, while the two knights attack whatever it is Rina hit.
Pip's away from danger so he can run in and heal whenever needed.
Eventually the Archer reinforcements come out, so beat them on
your way to Karen. Beware of Karen's Pierce Shot, which hits
multiple party members if they're lined up on the same line of
sight that Karen is shooting from.

Strategy: This is the first two part, continuing battle in the game. So,
as tempting as it is to rush at Fatima and get past those two
Phantasms is, don't. In essence, try not to get a character
killed, otherwise they'll only have half HP in the next part.
So, bring some characters around the NW edge, keeping Rasche
on the central island with a healer nearby. When you take out
three enemy units, Fatima and her Phantasm bodyguards start to
move. Keep Rasche alive and don't allow Fatima to get through,
using his spear to jab through multiple targets. Just focus on
Fatima when it gets down to just her and the Phantasm flanks.
The second battle has an easier feel to it. Your characters from
the first fight get some healing, and you can switch out for your
other members, too. Take out the enemies in the Eastern corner
with your close-ranged attackers and bring your ranged attackers
to the NW edge. Luna can stay safe in the water areas. Then
hold off your close-ranged fighters near the "entrance" to Josie,
leaving the Succubus alone while the NW edge is cleaned up. When
the only enemy units left are the two BomGolems, the Succubus and
Josie, go ahead and charge in, taking out the minor enemies while
focusing on Josie.
And if you wanted, your intermission character(s) only have to be
in either of the battles, not both if you didn't want to bring
them to both fights.

move Roland, move him one step up to draw Pop toward you without

Strategy: Stick to the bottom area. I tend to add everyone but Pip and Kaph
at this point. Focus on each enemy one at a time, luring all the
rest of them down to meet you, gradually building up everyone's
DP bars. Althea should be using Intention followed by whatever
Fire magic you have. Just be aware of the Red Bombs and the
Elements. The Red Bombs blow up once their turn comes up and they
have damage, just like the BlueBombs, so if you target one, make
sure to defeat it before it gets another turn. The Elements have
a cross-shaped area attack, so if one's nearby, try and split up
your team so it's not in a "Luna heals multiple characters"
formation. Once Josie comes down, use your Flash Drives on him.

Strategy: I'm not entirely sure that this is a true double battle like in
Chapter 8 since, in the second battle, I'm fully healed at the
start. Nonetheless, you won't be able to change equipment in
between the two battles.
Anyway, in the first part, I keep the magic users on the right
and the physical attackers on the left. Seems to work out each
time I've tried it. Just take out the BomGolems and Elements
along the way until the Demons and Unicorns come out. The Phantom
almost never moves, so you can ignore it for a good long while.
Just be careful when it does move to use up your Flash Drives on
it. I never did have it attack, but it charging up to attack
sounds like a bad idea to take a hit.
In the second battle Josie's most likely going to come down and
hit multiple party members with a status down. If Althea was hit,
use Intention to counter that and just focus on Josie. In time,
Fatima will come down, so give her the same treatment as you did
Josie. In both instances, I'd try and save your DP to use up
all your Flash Drives on Mattias when he comes around. By then,
you might've lost some party members, but you outnumber Mattias
and should have all that DP to use up on him.

Strategy: This isn't a true double battle like in Chapter 8. It's closer to

In the first battle, use the narrow bridge to your advantage. If
you have multi-targeting area magic, go wild with them if there
are at least two enemies in range. Otherwise, single-target
spells are your best option to conserve MP with all the reinforce-
ments coming out. If you have enough DP for a Flash Drive, use it
since your DP isn't going to carry over to the next battle.
In the second battle, the narrow bridge is slightly to your
disadvantage. Make your way up the bridge this time, using area
magic when appropriate. When you're nearing the Unicorn and Demon
guarding Josie and Fatima, start splitting your party up so their
multi-targeting magic won't harm a lot of your team. Josie deals
with stat downs while Fatima can sometimes freeze you. If you're
given the option, take out Fatima with your Flash Drives first,
since Josie's main threat is its own FD. Either way, once you
defeat one of them, the other should be nearing defeat too.

Strategy: The DBot never moves, so take advantage of that. It can attack in
a 3x3 square pattern using Moose Missile and use a Flash Drive
itself dealing around 300 damage. Adjacent characters next to the
machine also get damaged, but it's fairly minimal. That Flash
Drive attack is what to keep your eye out for, so try and keep
your HP up. If Rasche and Pop are on the field, it tends to
target Pop with its FD and afterwards Roland if/when Pop dies. If
Pop wasn't present with Rasche, then just Rasche will be targeted
by its FD. With a ViTonic and healing support, Rasche shouldn't
die. In the meantime, just use your FDs and best attacks back on
the DBot 3 and it should go down with ease.

Strategy: Now this is a double battle, unlike some of the previous Chapters.
Continue taking out enemies nearby as usual, again being wary of
the BlubBomb's penchant for exploding when damaged. I'd focus on
the Unicorn when it shows up, since it can be rather annoying.
After enough of Josie's comrades fall, he'll start to make his
move. As tempting as it is to attack him, once he takes damage,
that triggers Fatima to join the fight, which you do not want
just yet. So continue dispatching the other units until Fatima
moves on her own while healing off Josie's ~100 HP damage attacks.
Once she moves, ignore all enemies and beat Josie and Fatima. Use
some Flash Drives, but remember you can carry them over to the
next battle and you won't be fully healed when that starts.
Pressing on, in the next fight, re-beat Josie first since he comes
in range pretty quickly, flying down like he usually does. So,
place your focus on him while Fatima takes the long way down.
Eventually, Mattias will join in as well, but do your best to
remove Josie from battle if he isn't yet. I ignore Fatima since
she doesn't really get in range for anything. From there, use up
the best attacks and Flash Drives you can on Mattias. He has one
attack with a wide area that drains HP, and that's on top of his
regular attacks which still do a good amount of damage. Keep him
from healing too much and this battle should be over quickly.

Strategy: For the first battle, I tend to bring Rina and Luna along. Before
the battle, let Roland hold at least one ViTonic. When it's
Roland's turn, bring him closer to the other team mates, using
your item after getting near 300 HP left. Sadie tends to attack
Rina when she's in range, so try and keep Rina's HP up with items
and Luna's Purifying Water. Sadie's Flash Drive does around 325
damage. After a couple attacks by Roland and Rina, with a Luna FD
if you can fit it in, Sadie should be defeated.
In the second battle, let Roland use Restore to ward off a stray</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
critical hit. Don't move him so that B.Roland will use up one
turn just trying to get to you. After B.Roland attacks, just
keep trading attacks and you should win.

Strategy: This is a marathon match. With the beginning units, either stick
to just regular attacks or your lowest character art. Rasche is
an exception; use his Stinger attack for the guaranteed hit. The

keep Sadie and other area attackers near there before you beat the
third enemy. You'll want to make quick work of them using Bash
Storm and similar multi-targeting spells. The final set of
reinforcements will spawn at the Southern corner, near where you
started the battle. At that point, just finish the battle quickly

Strategy: You're fully rehealed in the second battle, so go all out if you
wish against Bharva in the first battle. Defeat the D Fiends one
at a time until the two Fiends flanking Bharva start to move.
Then you can use a tank to block advancement in the middle of the
field. I was using Roland to stop them there, so yeah. Then
everyone else can join in with their ranged attacks. I found
Sadie particularly useful in this fight.
In the second battle, make some space between you and the "door"
behind you. That's where the Beetle X will spawn after enough of
his friends go down. Area damaging magic is particularly useful
in this fight. Spend some DPs on Flash Drives to remove the
Beetle X from play since it moves often and hits hard. Then just
clean up the rest of the enemies.

Strategy: Focus on beating the Beetles first since, when they do attack, it

them and remove the Minoppis so that Bharva doesn't have healing

The R.Knights only ever seem to use magic when they can hit at
least two party members with an attack. Steiner and his team tend
to stay in formation (except for the reinforcements) until they
get hit, so use this to your advantage by using Fatima's Freeze
Dust or Althea's Ignis Blaze, if you have it, on multiple enemies.
Send Ninja? to deal with the lone R.Knight hanging out in the
Western corner so he doesn't sneak up behind you while you're
dealing with Steiner and his team. Then just keep up the attacks
and this should be over soon.

Strategy: Consecutive battle time.
Use the first battle, against the Beast Fiends, to build up your
DP. Also of note: you can choose your intermission characters in
the first battle and keep them out of the second half if you wish,
and still have access to their breaks. Anyway, the Beetles and
the Gryphon are the major enemies to be aware of. The Beetle can
use an attack that can deal around 400 HP worth of damage, while
the Gryphon can use Wind magic as usual. The reinforcements spawn
at the far end of the lower area, far from the stairs, so they
shouldn't cause much trouble as you setup an attack near the
stairs.
In the second battle, focus on beating Steiner first. He's simply
the closest to your team that can do damage. He can use Shine
Bullet, so try not to stand in a cross-pattern. He should be
almost defeated, if not already beaten, by the time Richter makes
his way over. Richter can attack from two squares away, so be
aware of that. Continue retreating to the long bridge where
Steiner and Richter are, using whatever long range attacks you
have to hit-and-run Gaston. From there, the battle should be
close to over.

Strategy: I'd suggest equipping your main magic users with any MP restoring
Lapis before the battle. At the offset, the Red Dog on the island
to the right is the closest main threat, so use your best spells
and attacks to remove it from play before it takes an action. All
other enemies will take at least two actions before being close
enough to attack you, so set up your team with status ups before
then. Before long, a Beetle X will appear on the same island that
the Red Dog once (hopefully) was. Fatima is useful in this fight
for randomly freezing enemies with Gravity Ice; if you can't beat
Beetle X quickly, since it can move often and attack for a lot,
try your luck freezing it.
By now, Bharva should already be moving and attacking. Setting up
some characters in a "triangle" formation (1-3-5 squares) will
usually keep Bharva from using his Flash Drive by using his breath
attack instead. The FD does 500+ damage while the breath attack
does 150-200 HP worth of damage, on average. Return your FDs in
kind to end this battle.

Strategy: Begin getting rid of the lesser enemies first. The Gryphon tends
to come down to the Beetle's level, giving you a nice shot to
multi-target both of them. The Viper hardly moves but does have
fire magic, so hit and run along the western corner if need be.
The Basilisk likes to come join the fight from the right side and
is generally just a minor nuisance at this point. By now Bharva
and the two Fiends should be making their way down, with that
Toad X joining in where you started the battle. Continue focusing
on the remaining enemies, keeping some of your team in "triangle"
formation like in the last battle, to have Bharva use his breath
attack instead of fighting. When you notice Bharva's DP fill up
to at least 2 bars, he's going to use his Flash Drive, so send
someone that's served their purpose for this battle as a
"sacrifice" to take the hit and generally go down. After that
point, the rest of the battle should go well.

Strategy: Just like in Chapter 15, it's really really tempting to take down
Josie, especially since he moves fairly early on, but that
triggers Fatima to take action once Josie takes damage. Avoid
doing so, unless you strongly feel as though you can beat Josie
before either of them take a turn.
Roland and Althea begin the map near the top of the mountain with
the rest of your party fending off the Phantoms and the reinforce-
ments at the bottom. I tend to take the LulGolem off the map, but
keep Roland and Althea apart to avoid the Elements' area magic as
well as Josie's stat downs. The rest of your team should work on
beating the rest of the enemies as they make their way up to join
Althea and Roland. Have Althea and Roland stall and draw the rest
of the enemies down to your level. Once everyone's reunited,
focus on Josie and Fatima, focusing on one until you move on to
another.

Strategy: Start bringing everyone up the mountain; don't bother with stat up
moves, but beat the Gryphon in the corner along the way. A Crab
unit appears near where you start and it's going to be higher in
level compared to the rest of your team; plus it has a really high
AO, allowing it to move and attack often. If you'd rather not
deal with any Fiends being added to the field, head straight for
Althea and take her down. Beware though, as she has Ignis Blaze
and will use it against you. The other enemies shouldn't pose
that much of a threat, and at times, Althea will take them out as
well in an Ignis Blaze crossfire. You can minimize that damage by
using Snuff Charms or other fire reducing lapis before the battle
begins. Keep up your attacks and FDs to end this battle.

Strategy: Equip fire reducing damage lapis to take the brunt of the first
few attacks. The Red Dog unit is your higher priority due to its
higher AO. Additionally, the Vipers don't have a large movement
range, so they shouldn't be that big a problem at the offset.
Once the Red Dog is gone, take out the two Vipers on the stairs to
the right, with one or two units to beat the Viper on the left
"pillar." You want to bring Bharva down to you, rather than give
your enemies the higher ground advantage while getting to them.
Stat up and heal your units, if need be, and get rid of the two
Red Dogs coming at you, with hopefully a Fiend or two getting
caught in the crossfire. The last Fiend X reinforcement can be
ignored since it'll take awhile to get down to your level, unless
you want the experience points for beating it. Keep your party in
a "triangle" formation, since I'd rather take that damage over a
direct attack. When Bharva's DP bar gets filled to two bars, send
a "sacrifice" again to take his Flash Drive since they're going to
die on that hit. Then just keep up the attacks.
When the second battle starts, you'll be fully healed, so don't
worry about what happened in the previous fight. You just can't
reequip any used up items or change your lapis arrangements.
There's two ways to deal with this part: either rush Bharva with
everything you have or have one or two members distract Bharva
while everyone else beats up on all the Fiends. Either way you
handle this, build up your DP and use it on Bharva when you can.
He'll once again only trigger his FD when he can use it as a level
2 Flash Drive. And again, the Vipers are not going to give you
much trouble since they spawn in the corners of where you started
the level.

Strategy: You're fully healed going from the first battle to the second
battle, so don't be worried about letting a couple characters
fall in battle. Just like with all battles that follow one
another, you aren't given the opportunity to re-equip yourself.
For the first battle, the N Witch and Elicia units are the only
new units to deal with. Methodically march down the field taking
out everyone along the way. The first set of reinforcements
spawn just a bit ahead of you while the second set of reinforce-
ments spawn behind you. Elicia and the N Witches don't move
until nearly all enemy units are beaten, so go ahead and beat
everyone to minimize distractions. The N Witches are a little
harder to hit with weapons, so go wild with magic. Elicia attacks
mostly in cross-shaped areas, including her Flash Drive, so try
and stay out of those formations. After some time attacking
Elicia, this battle should be over.
In the second battle, it's all about setting up your party. Send
Roland up the middle to trigger Elicia's Noah attack, a 7-8 by 4
attack that only hits directly in front of Elicia. Everyone else
should go up the two sides, bringing along a healer and/or reviver
on each side. Sadie, Rina and Kaph can sit at the edge of the
stairs and fire away with Sadie's Sonar Passion and most any
attack from Rina or Kaph; just bring two of the three so that they
can be on each side without being too close to each other. The
reason being is Elicia's lightning and Flash Drives, which target
a cross-shaped area. The latter FD will kill almost everyone if
hit, while the former will hit your team hard if they survive. If
any of them are going to use primarily arts, equip MP restoring
lapis, preferably Meditate (or Nirvana, if you have any). Karen
can also come along and not put another party member at risk of
being hit by using Flying Shell two squares away from one of the
sides. When you need to revive any fallen party members, do so,
but remember to step away so that you're not in a cross-shaped
pattern with the revived party member. Once you have a formation
set, you should be able whittle Elicia's HP down to nothing,
overcoming her 350 HP/turn regeneration.

V. Spa Battle Subquest [pigeon]

As soon as Chapter 23 (either version) is completed, this Subquest opens up.
Note that all main elemental Kopins will have their respective Charm equipped,
meaning Fire Kopins will have the Snuff Charm equipped, effectively canceling
out all fire-type damage. Similarly with Water Kopins and Drought Charms,
Nature Kopins with Smog Charms, etc etc. ? Kopins, ie the "Silver" elemental
Kopins, have no such charm but have extremely high Defense and Resistance
stats, making them difficult to beat without using Flash Drives. Set damage
items also help with them, such as Dynamite, Grenade and Mana Material. All
battles between spa intermission choices are consecutive battles.

November 24, 2008 - Started writing FAQ. Kinda started when I was already at
Chapter 7, so there's gaps at the beginning. Ended up backtracking
by restarting the game and playing through without saves. Actually
finished up the main FAQ formatting through Chapter 8.

November 27, 2008 - Happy Thanksgiving! And I find myself still typing and
updating after midnight. Today (or yesterday, now) had a lot of
gaps filled in, but I'm still missing some. Mostly filling in

Monk Mischief and found no reinforcements coming to their aid.
There's still Delivery 4 and A Collector I need to check on for that
reinforcement thing, if it does happen. And Mistia 911. But wow, I
actually finished "early" tonight and should be all set to go from
Chapter 15 on out. And first time breaking 10K words, yay.

and Chapter progression. It's an odd feeling being "caught up" to

November 29, 2008 - Guild data feels like it's taking the longest amount of
time to gather. Finally got all that Chapter 15 stuff done. And
