Version 1.05 (3/19/10): Made a small correction to the Duless boss strategy
in Book II, as well as getting a free Short Sword early in Book II. Also, a
correction in the Book I walkthrough around the point you get the Silver
Sword.

Version 1.0 (3/10/09): The first version.

-=  2. Introduction -=
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

For the first time, Ys Books I & II are together on a single cartridge for
the Nintendo DS in America! The Ys series contains Zelda-like action/RPG
gameplay with many open areas to explore. These are the first two games in
the series; you can play either of them whenever you want, since they are
both separate entities. There is a lot to do, and the games maintain a pretty
fast pace for their entire runs. While each adventure may be short, each one
is action-packed and very much worth playing. It is not well known in the US,
but these opening games of the Ys series are lots of fun, and I highly
recommend them to any RPG fan out there!

In both games, you will have the unique ability to gradually recover HP just
by standing still. This works in pretty much every non-dungeon area of the
game, which comes in handy very well. If you have HP recovery items equipped,
you will regain HP twice as fast! As a note for Book II, you do not regain
your MP in this fashion. The only way you can recover that is by using items
or visiting certain recovery spots. Also, some enemies drop a green leaf
which will partially recover your HP, so be sure to grab those as well!

If you selected the Nightmare difficulty setting, you will not regain health
by standing still anywhere, so keep that in mind too!

===========
Time Attack
===========

After you beat either of the games, you will unlock its Time Attack mode. In
this mode, you can fight every boss, one after another. This time around, the
battles are timed, and you are given sufficient equipment to make it through
each fight without being too overpowered. It is an extra feature worth
checking out, if not for the added challenge!

=====================
Multiplayer (Book II)
=====================

In this mode, you will be able to connect to other players and enjoy a co-op
adventure! I personally do not have much information relating to this
feature, but if you do, please let me know!

NOTE: This walkthrough is based on the Normal difficulty setting.

============
Port Barbado
============

After the opening cutscene, the game begins at Bludoh's Clinic. Adol (your
character) is in bed, and Bludoh and his son Slaghf will come talk to you.
After the nurse tells them to leave, you will get up automatically. You can
come back here and talk to the nurse to recover your HP, or buy medicine to
be used elsewhere. Try to leave and the nurse (Ira) and Bludoh will talk to
you. They will tell you that Slaghf is the head of a Defense Brigade, and
that he is waiting in a warehouse by the beach.

Exit the clinic and you will be in the town of Barbado. You should now go all
around town and talk to EVERY person; this will include everyone in each
building. The long building by the beach is the warehouse, where you will
find Slaghf inside. Be sure to go up the stairs to the roof and talk to the
lookout stationed there, as well as Drake inside the warehouse. Once you have
talked to everyone, talk to Slaghf and ask him questions if you want, then
choose "Nothing". Slaghf will give you a Short Sword (if this does not
happen, you missed talking to somebody), and points you northward to Minea.
Be sure to equip your first weapon right away!

When you are ready to go, exit the warehouse and head north to the town gate.
Head north and you will exit town, and enter the plains.

======
Plains
======

Out here, you will get your first taste of actual combat. The enemies here
are simple enough for you to be able to handle them with your new sword. If
you run low on health, you can run back to Barbado and recover at the clinic.
You can also stand still and you will regain health relatively quickly.
Anyway, make your way northward until you reach a stone wall, then head west
and north to the next area called the Path to Minea. It will be useful if you
spend a little bit of time fighting enemies here, and perhaps gaining a level
before proceeding.

In the next area, simply run all the way northward along the wall. When you
reach the following segment, go east and you will see a bridge leading
northward. If you go directly south into the opening, you will enter Minea.

=====
Minea
=====

When you arrive, talk to the nearby villagers and they will point you toward
the fortune teller's house in the southwest corner. Before you go there, head
to the southeast area, where you will find the weapon and armor shops. Buy
yourself Chain Mail and a Small Shield, then equip both of them. If you don't
have the money to buy both, exit town and fight some enemies until you have
the total amount.

This is not required, but it is highly recommended for you to do at this
point. Exit Minea to the north and follow the path northward into the second
area. Head to the northeast and you will come to a river; follow its west
bank as you head northward through the next couple of areas. When you come to
a bridge leading eastward, cross it and head east, crossing another bridge
ahead and following the path southward. You will soon come to a small lake.
Walk along the northeast edge of it, and you will retrieve the Gold Pedestal
hidden under the water. If you take the path leading directly west from the
lake to the next screen, you will find a treasure chest containing Parchment.

Bring the Gold Pedestal back to Minea and head over to the item shop. Sell it
for 2000G and buy the Sapphire Ring. Then, go over to the pub (long building
with a mug sign above the door) and talk to the bartender, then the one-eyed
man. Talk to the one-eyed man a second time and give him the ring; he will
give you 1500G and 150 EXP as thanks. With this extra money, you should go
buy the Long Sword from the weapon shop!

Now, head to the southwest part of town and enter the fortune teller's house.
Inside, talk to Sarah and she will now talk to you. Agree to help and she
will give you the Crystal, as well as 100 EXP. Sarah will then tell you to
find Jevah, located in Zeptik. When she is done talking, leave her house and
head north to exit Minea.

======
Plains
======

Back outside, make your way northward through the next couple of areas while
battling everything in sight. As you head north, make your way to the
northeast and you will see a river. Follow it northward through the areas
until you come to a bridge leading directly to the east. Cross it and enter
the next area. There, head north and east a bit and you will arrive in the
village of Zeptik.

======
Zeptik
======

When you arrive here, enter the first house to the east and slightly south,
which is the mayor's house. Agree to help the mayor recover the Silver Bells,
then exit. To the far east is Jevah's house. Go inside and talk to the old
lady, and she will give you the Temple Key since you have the Crystal in tow.
Now you are ready to visit the temple, so exit Jevah's house and take the
dirt path leading northward out of town.

=============
Mountain Path
=============

On this mountainous path, head northward and defeat the larger enemies along
the way. Farther to the north, you will find the Temple. The path continues
eastward, but you cannot proceed to the tower just yet. For now, save your
game and enter the Temple.

======
Temple
======

When you enter, you will be in a room lined with statues. On the east side is
a gold statue; touch it and you will warp to the next room. Here there will
be four paths you can take in the room. Take the northeast path and you will
reach a treasure chest containing a Ruby. Backtrack to the center area, and
take the southwest path through this maze-like area. When you reach the door,
make sure you are at full health and at least Level 9 before proceeding. If
you are ready, open the door using the Temple Key and you will automatically
enter a boss battle against the magician Jenocres. Read the Bosses section if
you need help winning this fight.

Once the battle ends, you can go ahead into the northern room. On the B1
level of the temple, head south. When you reach the hallway, take the path
leading to the southwest along the western wall. Go all the way south to the
B2 level, then continue south and east. You will see two gray statues; follow
the path between the statues and open the chest to receive a Cell Key.

Go back to the opening by the two statues, then head east and north along the
next path (it has one statue next to the opening). Go north and east along
the path, and take the third path going northward. Follow it to a treasure
chest containing a Chest Key. Go back out to the hallway and take the next
northward path to the west. Along the way, you will see two small rooms
across from each other. Enter the southern room and open that chest to
recover the Silver Bells.

Now, head all the way east and south to the hallway again. Continue southward
to the statue, then head all the way west and north back to B1. Back in the
room with the spiders, make your way eastward and you will see two prison
cells you can now unlock with the Cell Key. The left one has an enemy, and
the right one is where a woman named Feena is imprisoned. Take her with you
and you will receive 500 EXP! Also, open the treasure chest to receive the
important Mask of Eyes.

From the cell, take the second path from the right leading southward. You
will reach a chest containing a Necklace. After you do that, it is time to
take Feena to safety. That means you will need to slowly get her to follow
out back out of the temple, and back to the village of Zeptik. Once you get
to Zeptik, you will take her to Jevah's house where Feena will rest. While
you are in Zeptik, you can return the Silver Bells to the mayor, and he will
give you the Power Ring.

This is also a good time to backtrack to Minea and upgrade your equipment
(Plate Mail and Medium Shield). You can also sell a couple of your treasures
to the item shop there. It is recommended that you buy a Wing while you are
here; it will help save a bit of time later.

When you are done sidetracking, return to the temple. In the room after the
entrance, take the northwest path to a locked chest you can now open,
containing the Defense Ring. After that, head through the room where you
fought Jenocres and return to the B1 level. From there, take the southbound
path along the west side of the area all the way down to the B2 level.

Now, head all the way south to the bottom area, then go east. Enter the third
opening to the north (it has a single statue next to it). Follow that path
all the way east and northeast, and you will end up going down some steps to
the B3 level. Down here, head all the way to the northwest corner of the
floor while defeating the giant demon head enemies. In the northwest room,
open the treasure chest to obtain an Ivory Key.

Make your way east and take the first path leading southward. Get to the
southwest area of this floor, then go east and you will see a gold statue.
Ignore it for now (you will be coming back shortly), and follow the path
heading to the northeast. You will eventually reach a second gold statue at a
dead end; touch that one to reach another room on the B3 level. In that area,
follow the path until you reach a treasure chest; open it to obtain a Silver
Shield. Be sure to equip it right away, as it will help you a lot here!

Continue along the southwest path and you will reach another gold statue.
Touch it and you will return to the previous room. Now, backtrack to the
other gold statue you ignored before, and this time touch it. Follow the path
in that area to find another chest containing a Heal Potion. Go back south
and east, where you will see a gray statue. Clear the nearby enemies, then
select the Mask of Eyes from the item screen to activate its power. You will
reveal a hidden path to the northeast, so go through it (be sure to remove
the Mask of Eyes afterward so you don't blindly walk into the enemies).

On the other side of the wall, head south and follow the winding path as it
leads you eastward. At the end, touch the gold statue to reach the next area.
When you emerge, follow the short path to a chest containing the Marble Key.
Go back to the previous room via the gold statue, and backtrack through the
winding path. This time, take the path all the way to the north end, where
you will find another gold statue. Touch it to proceed onward.

In this watery room, head all the way to the west, then north at the end.
When you reach the door, be sure to save your game and recover to full health
with a Heal Potion if needed. Make sure you are well equipped and at a good
enough level (I would say at least Level 15, but I was at 17 when I got to
this point). When you are ready to proceed, head north, using the Marble and
Ivory Keys to unlock the two doors. After unlocking the second door, you will
be in the boss room. Approach the north wall and the Nygtilger will appear;
read the Bosses section for help beating this beast.

Following the battle, a hole in the northern wall will open up. Enter the new
room and open the chest to receive the Book of Ys. With the book in hand, you
need to go back to Minea and talk to Sarah. If you bought the Wing as I
recommended earlier, use it now to quickly return to Minea. If you did not,
then you must make your way back out of the temple the same way you came in
initially, and run back to Minea that way.

=====
Minea
=====

Once you make it back to Minea, go to Sarah's house in the southwest area.
You will find that she is not here, but you will check out a note left on the
table. It will lead you to the area outside of the Temple. Before you set out
for there again, head to the weapon shop and talk to the shopkeeper; the
Talwarl will become available for you to buy, though I don't suggest buying
it. You should also buy the Reflex armor at this point, and the Large Shield
if you can afford it. Finally, head to the item shop and buy another Wing, as
they do come in handy. When you are set to go, head back to Zeptik.

As another optional sidequest of sorts, you can return to Barbaro. Talk to
Slaghf in the southern warehouse and he will give you a Talwarl for free!

======
Zeptik
======

In Zeptik, talk to Feena and Jevah in the eastern house. Then, exit the
village to the north.

=============
Mountain Path
=============

Out here, make your way northward towards the Temple once more. When you get
to the Temple though, follow the path to the northwest and you will spot a
gold statue. Touch it and you will warp to a new area known as Vageux-
Vardette, as referenced in Sarah's note.

===============
Vageux-Vardette
===============

As soon as you arrive in this new area, kill the enemy that charges towards
you. Go around the statue and open a treasure chest to the north to receive
the Defender. Equip your new weapon and head along the western path. Get to
the northwest alcove and you will spot a strange dark object. Touch it and a
gate will activate nearby, so head southward from here and you will see a
dark wall (this is a gate). Go into the front of it and you will warp to a
new area.

In the second area, take the path leading westward. At the intersection,
continue west and north to find a small alcove nearby. Enter the enclosed
area and open the chest to receive the Ruby Shield. Continue northward and to
the east, where you will find a lake. Walk around to the north shore of the
lake and trip the switch to activate another gate. Make your way to the
southeast corner of this area, and you will spot the next gate. Go through it
to reach the third area.

When you arrive, head south and take the first path going eastward. At the
next split, first go south again and you will see a treasure chest. Open it
to receive the Mithril Mail; be sure to equip it immediately! Now, take the
other path leading all the way north and east. At the end of the path,
trigger the switch to open up another gate. This time, the gate is not in
this area, so you need to go back to the previous (second) area through the
gate. This time, make your way to the far west side, and head south to reach
the newly activated gate.

In the final area, you can take either of the two paths onward. They will
both lead to a door in the northeast area. Make sure you have full health
(use a Heal Potion) and are well equipped and leveled (I was at 21 at this
point), then go through the door to meet Petrorex. Read the Bosses section if
you need help defeating it. Once you defeat Petrorex, go north and you will
find an empty treasure chest. You will be told that Sarah may be back at the
shop, so touch the bronze statue behind the chest to exit the area entirely.

Back outside, head back to Minea.

=====
Minea
=====

Head to Sarah's place as soon as you arrive in Minea. You will not find
Sarah, but Elder Franz, who will give you some bad news. He will also give
you another Book of Ys, and mentions an abandoned mine you should check out.
So, replenish your supply of Wing/Heal Potion if needed, then exit town.

======
Plains
======

To get to the mine, first head northward through the next couple of areas.
When you reach the third area, head more towards the northwest and you will
start to see sheet metal and barrels on the ground. If you are lost, look for
a signpost to point you in the proper direction. If you see the barrels and
the small fencing, continue northward and enter the mine.

====
Mine
====

When you enter, you will be starting off on the B1 level. It is very
important to make use of your map, due to the limited visibility in the area,
and the many twists and turns the paths will lead you through. Anyway, head
west to the first path split, and continue westward. Follow the winding path
and you will see a treasure chest; open it to receive a Heal Potion. If you
already have one in your inventory, don't open it or it will be wasted!

Continue along the path and head southward at the split, and you will reach a
round room. Open the chest in there to find a Time Ring. Next, head all the
way northward and return to the mine entrance. This time, go to the first
path split and head southeast. Follow the eastern wall and head northward
into another dead end, where you will find a chest containing the Silver
Armor. From here, head to the southeast around a path, and continue southward
through an opening. Then, follow the path through the next couple of areas
until you reach the B2 level.

There, quickly defeat the giant enemy moving towards you. Then, head eastward
along the northern path and defeat more giant enemies along the way. In the
northeast corner of the map, go south a little and then west to spot an
opening in the north wall. Enter the enclosed area and open the chest to find
the Heal Ring.

Head out of the alcove and continue southward to find the path splits into
three. Take the middle path going to the south and follow it all the way
westward. Open the chest at the end to find a Silver Harmonica. Backtrack
slightly and you will see a path leading to the north. Take it northward and
follow the second westbound path. Follow it to the southwest and then
southward through an arch, and you will find a chest containing a Roda Seed.

Before proceeding any further into the mine, you will want to return to
Minea, so use your Wing and do that.

=====
Minea
=====

When you return to Minea, first head to the northeast section of town. Go
into the opening in the wall, and head upstairs to emerge on the town's wall.
You will spot a woman standing there. Talk to her, and you will find out that
she is Reah. Give her back the Silver Harmonica she lost and she will give
you 3000 EXP! After that, buy another Wing and exit town.

======
Plains
======

Outside once again, make your way northward through the next couple of areas.
When you reach the area outside of the mine, do not enter the mine just yet.
Instead, head westward into a new area. Make your way to the west and north
through this area, and you will see a giant tree; you can't miss it. Select
the Roda Seed and use it, and you will eat it. Then, walk in front of the
giant Roda Tree to trigger a cutscene.

After listening to the tree speak, head back east to the previous area. Go
all the way east to the river and cross the bridge leading into the next
section. Instead of heading northward to Zeptik, continue east across a
second bridge and go south. In the following area, go south to the small lake
where you found the Gold Pedestal earlier. This time, head southward into yet
another area. Out there, go west and you will find the second Roda Tree.
Trigger the cutscene in front of it, and you will receive the Silver Sword!

If you continue along the narrow path to the northwest of the tree, you will
eventually reach a chest containing the Herb. When you are done here, equip
the sword and head back to the Mine.

====
Mine
====

Back in the mine, make your way down to the B2 level again. As soon as you
get there, defeat the enemy and head west. Go south and east at the end, then
follow the north wall and you will spot an opening. Go through and you will
reach the B3 level. Down there, follow the path around until you reach a
split in the road. Follow it westward and you will encounter tougher knight
enemies, as well as another path split. Go north and east to the end, where
you will find the Dahm Key inside of a chest.

Head back to the path split and continue going west. At another split ahead,
go to the southwest and you will find another chest containing a Heal Potion.
From there, go back around and follow the path heading to the southeast. Head
along this winding path to the very end, and you will find a door. Before you
enter, make sure you have all of your silver gear currently equipped (sword,
shield, armor). Also, make sure you are at full health, then save and head
through the door. Try to open the chest, and the vampire boss Vagullion will
emerge. Read the Bosses section if you need help defeating this creature.

Once the battle is finally over, open the chest to get the third Book of Ys.
There is a room ahead that is now accessible, but you cannot do anything in
this place. Use the Wing to warp back to Minea, then head to Zeptik.

======
Zeptik
======

When you arrive back here, head to Jevah's house. Talk to her twice, and you
will now have the option of having the Books of Ys read to you. Have Jevah
read the three you have accumulated, then exit the house. Walk onto the pier
to the south and talk to Feena there, then talk to the other villagers
walking around. After that, exit and reenter Zeptik, and revisit Jevah's
house. This time, Feena will be there, so talk to both of them until Jevah
asks you to visit Gorvan for entry into the Dahm Tower. Once that happens,
exit the village to the north.

=============
Mountain Path
=============

Up on this path again, head northward to the temple. When you get there, head
to the northeast and follow the path into a new area. Cross a wooden bridge
and you will reach a building at the other side, so enter it.

=============
Thieves' Base
=============

In here, head to the north wall and talk to Gorvan when given the option to
do so. If you have all of the silver equipment, Gorvan will allow you to
access the tower. Before you follow him into the next room though, make sure
you have a Heal Potion and anything else you may want to have before you go
ahead. When you are absolutely sure you are ready, go into the next room and
talk to Gorvan again. He will open the way into the tower, but you can NOT
leave after that point!

==========
Dahm Tower
==========

You will start off the tower on the F1 level. If you go west, you will be
able to reach the B1 level, which is useless for now. So, head south and
east. There will be two paths to the north; take the far east path and go up
the stairs to F2. On a balcony surrouding the outside of the tower, head in
either direction until you see another opening (it is on the west side of the
tower, on your map), then enter it. Inside, go west and enter a room where
you will find four chests containing a Heal Potion, Talwarl, Mirror, and the
Evil Ring.

Go back to the outside area on the balcony, and run around to the first
opening (southeast area). Back inside, go south and west, and head north
through the other opening and continue upstairs to F3. For each of the
following floors, you will have to run around an outdoor balcony area to
reach the other doorway. These are good healing spots, but unless anything
important happens, I will omit mentioning them. In the next room, follow the
path past a series of statues while defeating the enemies along the way. You
can use the Mask of Eyes here to reveal a hidden room, where an old man will
talk to you inside. Otherwise, continue down the hall and upstairs to F4.

Follow the path through the area, and enter the northern room in the middle
to find a chest containing the Reflex. Other than that, continue onward to
F5. Up there, you will find two paths leading to the sixth floor. Take the
eastern path first and you will reach a room full of monsters and a chest
containing the Large Shield. Go back downstairs and take the western path to
the north this time. In the next room, walk to the south and you will be
trapped inside of a prison cell.

Talk to Luther Gemma, then stand in the cell and do NOTHING. Suddenly, Dogi
will break through the wall to free you both! He will give you a Statue to
return to an old man as you leave. Before you continue, be sure to equip your
strongest gear since your silver equipment was stolen! Since the cell was
located on B1, make your way back up to F3, where the row of statues are.
Defeat the enemies, then use the Mask of Eyes to reveal the hidden room. Go
inside and remove the Mask of Eyes, and talk to the old man Labah. Give him
back the Statue and listen to his story, and he will give you the Blue
Necklace. Exit this room by using the Mask of Eyes again, then continue until
you reach F5.

On F5, take the western path up to F6 like you did earlier. This time, select
the Blue Necklace and you will be able to defeat the enemies in the way.
After that, continue along the path to reach F7. Here, go past the first
northbound path and enter the northwest room. Talk to Dogi a couple of times,
then go south and enter the next northern room. Follow that path to the end
and you will find a chest containing the Silver Sword. Go back to the first
path I told you to skip, and head upstairs to F8.

On the next floor, go forward and take the northeast path to F9 for now. Up
there, take the southwest path and continue southward at the first split.
When the path splits a second time, continue to the east and north, where you
will retrieve the Silver Shield from a chest. Go back down to F8 now, then
equip the silver gear you have for now. Then, continue along the path until
you reach a door; heal up and go inside to face Pictimos. Visit the Bosses
section if you need help defeating it.

Once the battle is over, go into the northern room and open the chests to
receive the fourth Book of Ys and a Hammer. Go south to exit the room
entirely, and make your way back up to F9. Go around to the area where you
found the Silver Shield, then take the southern path to another room. Then,
go upstairs to F10. On this floor, head north at the path split and you will
be out on a balcony. Counting the pillar on your screen, head to the west and
stop at the third pillar, then use your Hammer on it. If you hit the correct
pillar, a hole will appear in it. After that, continue up to F11.

Up here, follow the trail of blood to Luther Gemma in the corner. Talk to him
and he will mention a girl being trapped in the tower. Head back down to F10,
then head southward this time. Follow the west path all the way southward,
then east and north at the end to reach F11 again. Since you used the Hammer
at the pillar below, you will be able to safely travel through this room; if
you did not, you will lose health and die rather quickly!

On F11, go all the way down the hall to the end, then head upstairs to F12.
There, simply follow the path through the room until you reach F13. In this
bright mirror room, talk to Labah in the corner and he will mention the Lado
Spire upstairs. After that, go west and up the stairs to F14. Follow the path
to the end, and you will reach a door. Heal up as usual, then enter the room
to face Khonsclard. View the Bosses section for help beating it.

After the battle, go into the north room and open both chests to find the Rod
and the fifth Book of Ys. Now, return to the mirror room of F13. This time,
go south and east to find a mirror. Since you have the Rod, walk into it to
reach the next segment. Go south until you reach a path split, then head
southwest and continue southward to the very last room. Then, go west and
walk into the mirror. Head into the southern room when you emerge, and step
into another mirror.

In the next area, go south and east, then north to the mirror. When you
appear again, open the chest to recover the Silver Armor. Step into the same
mirror and you will return to the start of the room. Go south and enter the
first mirror once again. In the second area, go southwest at the split with
two openings, and enter the first mirror you see on the west side. You will
end up in a room with two mirrors. Go into the east mirror, then when you
emerge, go into the same mirror you just came from. Then, follow the path all
the way up to F15.

On this floor, follow the paths going all the way southward through the room.
In a small area at the end, you will find a chest containing a Battle Shield.
Equip it and head back to the north end of the room. This time, head up some
stairs in the northwest opening and follow the path going west. You will see
more stairs to the north which lead to F17. Ignore them for now and continue
along the path all the way to F16. Go west along the bridge to enter the Lado
Spire.

In the new area, defeat the enemies and head southward until you reach the
following area. Go up the spiral stairs to find a door. You will need to
equip the Evil Ring here, but to avoid dying fast, also select the Blue
Necklace from the item screen. This will allow you to open the door in front
of you and continue to Lado Spire 3F, plus you will be able to unequip the
ring after you enter the room. In this room, go forward and talk to Reah. She
will give you information about Dark Fact, and will give you the Monocle so
you can read the books yourself.

Now, head back through the Lado Spire until you are back in F16 of the tower.
Make your way back through the enemy-filled halls until you reach the
northwest corner of the floor, and follow those steps to F17. Up there, you
will see two paths leading southward. Take the eastern path and defeat the
tough scorpions as you progress, then at the south end, go north into the
middle area to find a Heal Potion in a chest. Back out of this area and
continue west and north along the next narrow path to reach F18.

Upstairs, head south to the first path split, and go southeast. Move to the
east and north to continue to F19. There, select the Blue Necklace if it
isn't already equipped, and follow the straightforward path through the room.
Since you have the necklace on, you will be able to defeat the guard enemies
at the end. Once the coast is clear, open the chest to get the Battle Armor.
After that, go back down to F18 and continue to the far south area of the
room. Go all the way west and north, and go up the stairs at the end to reach
the F20 level.

On F20, follow the path until you reach a hole in the north wall. Go through
the hole to reach another room. Get past the tough armored enemies and open
the chest to receive the Flame Sword. Equip your new weapon and defeat the
opposition more easily as you exit through the hole in the wall. Continue
going east through the hall, and north at the end to reach F21. You will be
in another mirror room.

Go around the corner to the first mirror and pass through it. There will be
two paths leading southward below; take the eastern path and follow it to the
end, where you will find another mirror. In the next section, step into the
west mirror, then quickly defeat the enemy at the other side. Follow the path
to the end, then heal up and open the door in front of you. Step into the
final mirror and you will be in a room where you must fight Yogrex and Omrgun
at the same time. Visit the Bosses section if you find yourself having
trouble here.

Once you make it through this fight, go north to the next room. Head up the
stairs to the very top, and you will be at F24. You will then come to a door,
which will shock you when touched. You won't be able to get through just yet,
so return to the boss room and step through the mirror in the northeast
corner. When you emerge, follow the northward path to another mirror which
leads to the start of the maze.

Now, make your way back down to F11 to where you last met Luther Gemma. Talk
to him and he will give you the Blue Amulet, which will aid in opening the
door on F24. With it in hand, head all the way upstairs to F24 once more.
Before you can open the door, you must also read all five Books of Ys. Do
this by selecting the Monocle and the book you wish to read, then on the main
screen press X to select the book like a regular item. Do this until you have
read all five books, then the door leading to F25 will open.

On the top floor of the tower, you are about to meet the final boss. Before
you move forward, make sure you are at full health (let the Heal Ring help
with this), have the Heal Potion selected so you can use it in battle if
necessary, and have the Silver gear equipped (yes I know it is less powerful
than the Battle gear and Flame Sword, but it causes a LOT more damage to the
boss). When you are ready, go north and you will meet Dark Fact. When the
battle begins, visit the Bosses section if you need help.

After you defeat Dark Fact, check her cloak to receive the final Book of Ys.
Select the final book and the Monocle and read it, then enjoy the final
scenes of the game. Congratulations on completing Ys: Book I!

NOTE: This walkthrough is based on the Normal difficulty setting.

=============
Lilia's House
=============

After the opening cutscenes, you will find yourself in a field area. A girl
named Lilia from nearby Lance Village will be there to see if you are all
right. Watch the next couple of scenes and you will end up in Lilia's house
resting. When you finally have control, go into the next room and talk to
Banoa. Choose to leave and Banoa will give you Banoa's Letter to be delivered
to Dr. Fleah. Step out of the house and you will be in Lance Village.

=============
Lance Village
=============

Out in the village, talk to the villagers if you so desire. Head to the house
in the northeast area. As soon as you enter, the room will shake and Lenoah
Ral will read a letter about Dr. Fleah being trapped in the mines. Agree to
help rescue him and you will receive 300G. If you want, you can buy Medicinal
Herbs from the nurse to recover your health later. It is not necessary for
now, so exit the house.

Next to the clinic is a building with two doors; the right door leads to the
item shop, and the left one is for the armory. Go into the armory and buy a
Short Sword and Wood Shield, as that is all you can afford for now (you COULD
go to the Moondoria Ruins and receive a free Short Sword from Legth, but
buying it would be a bit more efficient time-wise). Equip both items, then
head to the west side of town. Go west and talk to the Elder standing on the
porch of his home, and he will give you permission to enter the mines to the
north. Also, talk to Lilia who is standing nearby to receive an Apple. When
you are ready, exit town by going taking the northwest path.

=====
Field
=====

Out here in the field, make your way to the northwest area and you will see
paths leading to the upper plateaus. Follow those paths northward into the
next area. Go north and you will reach the edge of the cliff, revealing a
mountain in the distance. Lilia will come talk to you before wandering around
collecting flowers. You can find a Marl Flower if you check the nearby flower
patches in this area, and give one to Lilia if you want.

When you are done here, leave this area and head to the northeast area of the
field. Follow the northbound path and you will reach the ruins.

===============
Moondoria Ruins
===============

This is the first area where you will encounter enemies, so be prepared to do
battle. Start by heading northward along the path between rows of columns.
Head all the way northward to the edge of the water, and pick up the Roda
Fruit on the ground. Head back to the south and take the path leading to the
west this time. Follow it north and west through a narrow path, then go east
into an enclosed area and check the north wall there to find an Ancient
Tablet.

Now, return to the southern area of the ruins, by where you entered the area.
This time, go east and go through an opening in the north wall. Follow the
path to a door, with Astal guarding it. Talk to him and he will unlock the
door for you since you have the elder's permission. Before you enter, I would
suggest running around the ruins and fighting the regular enemies to gain a
couple of levels. Raising at least 600G so you can go back to Lance Village
and purchase a Chain Mail and a Wing would be a good idea as well. When you
are ready, go through the door to enter Toal Sanctuary.

==============
Toal Sanctuary
==============

Inside here, follow the path heading westward. Ignore the first door you come
to, as you cannot open it just yet. Go west and north, then east to find
another door. Enter that room and you will enter Hadal's Mausoleum. Approach
the statue and Priest Hadal will speak to you. You will return the Book of
Hadal here, and will be told to return the other books to gain access to the
Temple of Salmon.

After you recover your HP, leave this room and head up and down the hallways
while fighting enemies until you reach Level 6. At that point, go back
outside to the ruins.

===============
Moondoria Ruins
===============

When you are Level 6, head to the northeast area of the ruins. You will spot
two stone statue enemies blocking the path to a treasure chest. Defeat them,
slowly but surely, and open the chest to receive the Heavenly Staff. From
there, go northeast and talk to the old man named Legth. Go into the alcove
behind him and approach the goddess statues, and you will gain an MP bar and
the ability to use magic! You will not have any magic spells to use just yet,
however.

Now, head back into Toal Sanctuary, and continue along the path to the very
end. Go through the doorway there and you will reach the Rastini Mines.

=============
Rastini Mines
=============

In the mines, head through the next several rooms until you reach an area
with actual enemies wandering around. If you are at least Level 6 (which you
should be), you will be able to actually damage these creatures. Fight them,
then take the west path to reenter Toal Sanctuary.

==============
Toal Sanctuary
==============

In this new section of the sanctuary, follow the path all the way to the end.
Enter the room there and you will be in Tovah's Mausoleum. Approach the
statue and speak with Priest Tovah to return the Book of Tovah here. After
you recover your HP/MP, exit this room and return to the mines.

=============
Rastini Mines
=============

You will reemerge in the first area with enemies once again. This time, take
the eastern path into the following room. In the next area with three paths,
take the east path again. In the area with an enemy in it, go into the middle
room. Defeat another enemy and check the boulder at the far end of the room
to receive the Mattock sticking out of it.

Exit this room and take the western path in the previous room. When you
emerge, take the west path again. You will then come out of the middle
doorway in the next room. There, take the eastern path and head through the
next couple of rooms until you end up at a dead end. Check the northeast wall
in the last room and you will notice that the section of wall had collapsed.
Checking it out, you will find Fleah Ral trapped behind the wall. Select the
Mattock and use it to knock down the wall. You will receive 100 EXP as a
reward for doing so. Now, enter the new room.

Inside, talk to Fleah Ral and give him Banoa's Letter. He will ask you to
find a Roda Fruit and a Celceta Flower in order to help him. Agree to do so,
then backtrack through a few rooms until you reach an area with three paths.
This time, take the western path into the next area. For now, take the
western path and you will reach a new area of Toal Sanctuary.

==============
Toal Sanctuary
==============

In the sanctuary once again, go west and through the door to enter Dabby's
Mausoleum. Talk to Priest Dabby and return the book, then recover and exit
the mausoleum. Go east and pass the door leading back to the mines for now.
Continue east and all the way northward to reach a chest; open it to find the
Cleria Ring. Now, head back to the mines via the doorway you came in through.

=============
Rastini Mines
=============

Back in the mines again, defeat the enemy and take the southeast path into
the next area. Take the east path again and you will end up in a room with
four exits. Take the southwest exit and follow the path to the dead end,
where you will find a chest containing Fire Magic. You can now equip and use
magic!

Be sure to equip your new magic, as it will help you defeat the enemies in
this area much more quickly and from a distance! Now, head back to the room
with the four paths. Go through the northeast door, then in the next area,
take the west path. You should be in an area with a small pool of water on
the west side. Check the plants on the ground to retrieve a Medicinal Herb
(you can leave/reenter this room to get more of them if you want). Take the
middle path to the next area. In there, go west and continue through the
rooms to emerge in the sanctuary yet again.

==============
Toal Sanctuary
==============

Here again, go east and north to find another door. Enter it to reach Gemma's
Mausoleum. Return the book to Priest Gemma and recover your HP/MP, then leave
and head south and west. Pass the doorway leading back to the mines, and
continue west to a second door. Enter Messa's Mausoleum and return the book
to Priestess Messa. Leave here, then return to the mines yet again.

=============
Rastini Mines
=============

Once again in the mines, head back to the room with three exits. This time
around, take the northeast path to the following area. Follow the path
leading through the next couple of areas until you come to a door at the end.
Heal up and save your game, equip the Medicinal Herbs you should have
gathered earlier, then when you are ready, enter the room. You will face the
first boss, Belagunder, in here. Read the Bosses section if you need help
defeating it.

After you defeat the boss, you will receive 400 EXP and 600G. Go through the
northern door and you will reach a new area of the mine. Follow the path
around to the south and east until it splits, then hug the southern wall and
you will enter a hidden room. Defeat the enemy inside and check the box in
the northwest area to find some Iron Ore. Take it and exit this room. Head to
the northeast and continue all the way to the far north end of this chamber.
When you get there, head west to find some flowers by the water. Wander among
the flowers to receive the Celceta Flower.

Next, make your way back to the far south end of the area. Once there, take a
path leading southeast into the next room. Head north and follow the path
leading to the east. Hug the south wall and you will enter another hidden
room. Follow the path going to the northeast and southward, and open the
chest at the end to find an Evil Bell. Go back out of this room and continue
northward through another opening, defeating the tougher enemies with Fire
magic. In the northeast corner you will find a treasure chest; open it to
receive Light Magic.

For the time being, you are done with the mine, so use the Wing I suggested
you buy earlier and return to Lance Village.

=============
Lance Village
=============

When you return here, head east and visit the armory. Sell the shopkeeper </pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
your Iron Ore for 3000G, then buy the Long Sword and Small Shield for now.
Then, visit the clinic in the northeast area of town, and give the Celceta
Flower and Roda Fruit to Fleah Ral. He will give you Lilia's Medicine in
exchange for the items. Leave here and enter the house just to the south of
here, as that is Lilia's house.

Talk to Banoa inside and give her the medicine, then you will go outside. You
will talk to Lilia out there, and you will be brought back inside. As thanks,
you will receive the Return Magic, as well as 300 EXP! Now, leave Lilia's
house and visit the elder on his porch at the west side of town. He will
suggest looking for leads as to the whereabouts of the last statue here in
town. So, head to the southwest house and go inside; this is Zirah's house.
Talk to Zirah and agree to check out his basement for him, then go through
the door and head downstairs.

================
Zirah's Basement
================

Down here, check out the brick wall in the northeast area. Use the Evil Bell
here and the wall will crumble, revealing a room full of monsters behind it.
This can be a great place to gain experience and gold since the monsters just
keep on spawning. Fight your way into the room, then go through the opening
at the north end to reach a new area of Toal Sanctuary.

==============
Toal Sanctuary
==============

In the sanctuary yet again, head to the northeast and defeat the monsters
along the way. You will get a message saying that the monsters have been
annihilated. Continue onward and enter the door at the end to reach Fact's
Mausoleum. Give the final book back to Priest Fact, and it will give you the
Scroll of Guidance. You are told to bring it to the goddess statues in
Moondoria Ruins. After you recover your health, exit the room. Head back into
Zirah's basement and fight your way through, then head upstairs and exit his
house.

=============
Lance Village
=============

Back in the village, rest at Lilia's house if you need to. Before you go off
to the ruins, visit the armory again. The new armor made from the Iron Ore
you sold him before will be ready, so buy/equip a Breast Plate for now. When
you are set to go, exit town and head northeast to the ruins.

===============
Moondoria Ruins
===============

Here, make your way east and northward to where the old man is standing. Go
into the area next to him and approach the goddess statues. The Scroll of
Guidance will tell you to head to the Temple of Salmon. In order to get
there, you will need to head to the Toal Sanctuary again. Go south and west,
then north in the enclosed path where Astal is. Go through the door and enter
the sanctuary from there.

==============
Toal Sanctuary
==============

In this first area of the sanctuary, go west and take the first northbound
path. You will now be able to open the door, so go through. Follow the long
hallways and head up the stairs until you reach the end. Watch the scene that
follows, and you will emerge in a new area.

================
Noltia Ice Walls
================

Out here, you will have to make your way across the icy landscape by going up
and down steps between the plateaus. Some steps are iced over so you can only
slide down them, so pay attention to avoid backtracking unnecessarily. Start
off by going up the first steps, then to the northeast steps. On the next
screen, continue north and west, and you will see some steps and a slide.
Take the steps going north, then at the split, go west and up the first steps
you see. Follow the path going westward, then head down a bunch of steps.
Make your way to the southwest corner of the area, and follow the path to the
bottom, where you will find a fountain of sorts. Approach it to receive an
Ice Mist Orb.

From here, go up the steps you can as you head eastward. When you reach the
next screen with enemies, go east and slide down the steps to the south.
Continue going eastward to reach the start of the area, then make your way up
a bunch of steps. Go north from the slide and up the steps, then head toward
the northeast area this time. Go up the steps to the very top of the area,
and head all the way west into the cave.

Inside, go south and west to find a chasm. Stand in the water plume and use
the Ice Mist Orb to create an ice bridge spanning across the gap. Head across
and exit through the doorway. Back outside, go down the first set of steps
and head east. You will see some tracks on the ground; walk into the western
wall there to enter a hidden room. Inside, open a chest to receive the Spirit
Cloak.

Exit the room and go down another set of steps, and continue all the way to
the west. Follow the path through the area, defeating the enemies along the
way (your Fire magic will help a LOT). When you reach the next cave, go
inside. Pass through the small room and exit at the other end.

In this new area, go down the steps and head southward to another set of
steps. Go down two sets of steps, then follow the path leading all the way to
the west. Defeat several enemies along the way, and head down the slide in
the southwest area to reach a chest containing the Hawk Statue. Go down the
second slide, then go west and down another set of steps to reach a door.
Enter that room.

You will find the room you are in is filled with ice blocks. Use your Fire
magic to clear a path to the east side, then exit the room. When you emerge,
go east to a chest containing the Telepathy Magic. With it, go west and down
the steps, and defeat the enemy using Fire. Go west and up some steps, then
go eastward to find more steps. If you continue east, you will find a Marl
Flower if you want one. Otherwise, go up those steps and continue onward to
the northwest cave.

In here, go east and you will find a Medicinal Herb growing in the ground. It
respawns if you want to take this time to use them and collect a few more for
the road ahead. Exit the room at the other end, and you will be outside
again. Go east and open a chest to find Rock Shoes, which will allow you to
walk up the slippery steps, making backtracking much easier.

At this point, you are going to have to backtrack a bit. Make your way all
the way back to the first area (you will cross the ice bridge in the first
cavern to reach there again). Make your way to the southwest area of the
first region, as if you were going to where the Ice Mist Orb was located.
Instead, continue to the far southwest and run up the two slides with the
Rock Shoes on. Continue up another set of steps and you will reach a chest;
open it to find the Mirror of Illusions.

With this mirror in tow, make your way back through the entire area again,
until you go through the room with the ice blocks. Once you exit that cave,
follow the path until you reach a slide in the northwest area. Go up the
slide and you will come to a door. Before you proceed, heal up and save, and
make sure you are at least up to Level 21 before proceeding. If you need to
level up a bit, it may be a good idea to return to Lance Village and buy the
Talwarl for its increased attack power.

When you are ready to go, use the Mirror of Illusions to reveal the true
door. Enter it and you will meet the boss, Tyalmath. Read the Bosses section
if you have trouble beating this creature. Following the battle, you will
receive 600 EXP and 1200G as a reward. Go through the north door to reach the
next room. Make your way northward and you will find a respawning Medicinal
Herb if you want to leave/reenter to collect three of them. After that, go
west and you will be in a new area.

===========
Burnedbless
===========

In this area, head northward and you will find another goddess statue.
Approach it and find out about the next step in your journey, then head into
the western area. You will find enemies in this area who will camouflage to
blend into the ground and have powerful attacks, so defeat them along your
path to the north. There will be two paths to take; take the northwest path
first into the next room. Collect the Iron Ore in the northwest corner, then
return to the previous room (you cannot go too much farther through here for
now) and take the eastern path.

Make your way through a bunch of rooms ahead, defeating the various enemies
along the way. When you reach the first bridge section with the burning
enemy, use the Telepathy Magic to get past it safely, then switch back to
your Fire magic. Defeat many more enemies and gain a couple of levels, then
eventually you will end up in the Lava Village.

============
Lava Village
============

When you enter this village, talk to the villagers and you find that many of
them are rude to you. Use the Telepathy Magic to transform into a Roo, then
talk to Ruvah by the northeast bridge. After hearing what he has to say,
switch back to your regular form (switch to a different magic), and talk to
Ruvah again. This time his attitude will be different, so watch the cutscene
that takes place.

Following the scene, agree to help rescue Talf, and Ruvah will give you the
Earrings of Whispers. With them, exit the village.

===========
Burnedbless
===========

Back out here, you will want to backtrack to the very first area, where the
goddess statue is located. It may be beneficial to gain a couple of levels
while wandering the area, since the enemies also drop a lot of gold for you.
Anyway, when you get to the statue area, use the Evil Bell and you will see a
Roo pop out of a hidden passage to the northeast. Use the Telepathy Magic and
follow that passage into a new area.

========
Roo Nest
========

In this area, talk to the Roos standing around. In the northern area, pick up
the Roda Leaf sitting beneath the tree, which will allow you to get past
poisonous gas. One of the Roos will allow you to rest, which will be quite
useful given what you went through to get here. When you are set to go, exit
the nest and switch to a different magic.

===========
Burnedbless
===========

Head west past the statue and into the next area again. This time, head all
the way northward and take the northwest path into the next room. If you
didn't grab it earlier, take the Iron Ore in the northwest corner, then
continue to the following room. Continue through the rooms until you reach
the corridor with poisonous gas (you can tell by the green mist floating in
the air). Select the Roda Leaf and you will be able to get through with no
problem.

In the next room, head directly westward and into that room. Make your way to
the north end, steering clear of the magma enemies. At the top of the room,
you will find a respawning Medicinal Herb. To the north is a statue; approach
it and take the Black Pearl from it. Exit this room and head northward some
more. Continue through the rooms and you will reach a room that appears to be
a dead end.

Go to the north wall and there will be a crack in the wall. Use the Earrings
of Whispers and you will find Talf at the other side of the wall. Give him
the Black Pearl and the monster accompanying Talf will break down the wall,
freeing them both. Talk to Talf and agree to take him back to the Lava
Village. Talf will now be following you, so you need to take it slow and keep
the enemies from hitting him (he has his own HP). You cannot cheat and use
Return Magic or a Wing, sadly.

Start by leading him northward through the broken bars, and into the next
room. There, slowly head northward while defeating the enemies and staying
close to Talf. At the far north, follow the path heading eastward into the
next area. There, go along the narrow bridge path, killing the enemies ahead
of you as Talf follows. When you get to the end, you will be back in the
village.

============
Lava Village
============

Upon your arrival in the village, Talf and Ruvah will be reunited. Ruvah will
thank you by lowering the northeast bridge, so you can proceed onward. You
will also receive 900 EXP as added thanks! If you need to rest, you can go to
Talf's house to do so. When you are set to go, cross the bridge and head
northeast into a new area.

===========
Burnedbless
===========

In this new section of Burnedbless, begin by heading directly southward until
the end, then go east. Open the treasure chest to find 2000G, then go back
northwest to the area entrance. This time, head east and southward through
the area while fighting the enemies. Go west at the bottom and continue to
the second room. Cross the safe bridge to reach the following section. There,
head northward and defeat some more enemies (it may be useful to level up,
too).

At the north end, you will find the boss door. When you are prepared to fight
(you should be at least Level 28-29), heal and save, then enter the room. You
will meet Gelaldy ahead; read the Bosses section if you need help with
winning here. Following the battle, you will receive 1000 EXP! Go through the
north door and follow the straight path through the next few areas, and you
will emerge in Lamia Village.

=============
Lamia Village
=============

When you arrive here in this village, enter the southeast house (Maria's
house). Talk to Maria's mother and you will find that her daughter was
kidnapped by monsters. Exit the house and talk to other villagers as you make
your way to the northwest area and up the steps. At the northern gate of the
village, talk to Gort and listen to his story about the temple ahead.

Gort will then suggest that you visit Hadat before proceeding to the temple.
Go down the steps and visit the southwest house, since this is where Hadat
lives. Talk to Hadat and agree to rescue his son, and he will give you the
Lira Shell. Also, be sure to visit the northeast building in town, as this is
where the shop is located. Upgrade your equipment at this point (Hyper
Cutter, Large Shield, Reflex). If you cannot afford all of them, at least get
the weapon and shield, and come back later for the last item.

One last thing to note is that in Regg's house (it is on the east side after
going up the stairs), you can go into his basement and use the well to
recover your HP/MP. When you are set to proceed, go talk to Gort and he will
open the gate for you. Before you walk through, use the Telepathy magic to
take the form of a Roo. Once you do that, go forward to the next area.

================
Temple: Entrance
================

Follow the path northward and you will come across two guards blocking the
entrance to the temple. If you came here in your regular form, the guards
would attack you. In Roo form, they will talk to you and grant you access to
the temple, as well as a hint on where to go once inside. Once you get past
them, you will be in the temple proper.

=============
Temple: Hadal
=============

Inside the temple, you can switch to your usual Fire magic since it will be
worth it to fight the enemies wandering around. Anyway, at the first path
split, go east and head up the stairs you see. Go northeast and up a second
set of stairs to reach the third level. Head west and follow the path all the
way north to the end, then go east to the next area.

=============
Temple: Messa
=============

In this area, simply follow the path as it leads you to the southeast and
into another section of the temple.

=============
Temple: Gemma
=============

Continue along the upper path until you reach some stairs; go down them to
the second level. Defeat the enemies and go up the eastern stairs to the
third level once more, then head east and north along the path. At the split,
go east some more and then southward. Go down the stairs at the end of the
path, and follow the path westward. When you reach a doorway, go inside that
room.

In the room, simply go up the hallway and exit through the door at the end.
Back outside, go down the stairs and head to the southwest. Follow the path
going southward under an overpass, and head west when you reach the water to
the south. When you get to the next door, enter that room. Use the Telepathy
magic and talk to the guard at the north end of the hall, and he will give
you a Permit. Take it and exit the room, and head back to the east. Take the
northbound path when you reach it and go up the stairs, then head into the
west room. Go through the hallway and exit the room at the south end.

When you emerge, go north and east, then southeast to another set of stairs.
Go up them and follow the path all the way north and west at the split. When
you reach another path split, go south and down the stairs at the end. Go
west and follow the path to the north, going under an overpass along the way.
Defeat the enemies in the next open area, then use Telepathy magic and speak
with the armored guard near the northern gate. Since you have the Permit, you
will be allowed to pass. Go through the gate and switch to another magic,
then continue into a new area of the temple.

============
Temple: Fact
============

Go north to the first path split, and head east. There will be tougher
enemies here, but it is a great area to wander around and level up in. Head
east and north to the end, then go west and down the first set of stairs you
come to. Go south and west, and defeat the guards in front of a doorway. Use
the Telepathy magic and enter the room there. Equip the Earrings of Whispers
and go to the north door, and you will hear the conversation inside. You will
also overhear an identification code (tierra).

Now, switch magics and exit the room. Defeat the guards and head up the
stairs, and continue westward. In the fountain area, go north and you will
see two doors; enter either of them since they both lead to the same room.
Follow the path to an alcove in the southwest area, where you will find a
chest containing the Ring of Peace. Go back out of this room entirely, and
head south to the fountain. Run around the area and level up by fighting the
enemies if you want, otherwise get to the south end of the room, and continue
to the next area to the south.

=============
Temple: Gemma
=============

In this area, go south and defeat the guards, and continue all the way to the
southwest. At the bottom of the room, go up the western steps and head into
the west area.

=============
Temple: Messa
=============

Up here again, simply follow the path to the northwest as it leads into the
next area of the temple.

=============
Temple: Hadal
=============

Back in the very first area, follow the path west and all the way southward.
At the end, go east and down the steps. On the second level, head all the way
west to the other side of the room (both sides are more or less identical).
At the west end, go up the stairs and follow the path to the east, then all
the way north and west into a new temple area.

=============
Temple: Tovah
=============

In here, go west and down the stairs as soon as you come to them. Use
Telepathy magic and talk to the guard by the nearby gate. He will ask you for
the identification code, which you overheard previously. State the proper
code (it is "tierra"), and the gate will be raised. Switch your magic and
defeat the guard, then go north and west along the new path. To the south,
you will see some stairs; pass them for now and continue all the way
southward along a narrow path. At the end, go east until you find a door.
Enter that room and open the chest inside to receive 3000G.

Exit the room and head west, then go back northward along the narrow path (if
you want, you can take the southwest path along the lower level into Temple:
Dabby, head all the way south and west, and continue through a series of
rooms to reach a chest containing a Roda Fruit). Anyway, at the north end of
the narrow path, go west and up the stairs, and continue to the next temple
area.

=============
Temple: Dabby
=============

Up in this new area, go north at the path split and head down some stairs to
the lower level. Go north under the overpass and you will see two doors to
the north. Ignore them and head east, then up the stairs you see. Follow the
path all the way west and enter the room at the end. There will be a solemn
aura in here. Go forward and use the Light magic to reveal the Holy Cup. Take
it, then exit the room. Go back east and down the stairs, and head southwest
through the overpasses and up the stairs. Go east to the previous area.

=============
Temple: Tovah
=============

Back here, go down the stairs and head northeast. Go down another set of
stairs, and you will see a room there. Enter it and you will meet with
Duless. After he finishes talking, go around him and start to head north, and
he will turn you into a Roo permanently. Since you cannot use your regular
weapons in this form, you must rely on Fire magic to attack your enemies
ahead. So, head north to reach the canals.

=================
Underground Canal
=================

In this new area, go south and east across two bridges. Take the second path
to the south and east until the next split. At the following path split, go
east across a bridge and continue to the south. When you reach the far east
area, you will come to another split. Go all the way south and around the
corner, then take the southern path yet again. Follow it all the way around
to the southwest section of the canals, then go west and north through a
hallway.

At the end of the hall, you will be met with a locked door. There are humans
at the other side of it, but they will not let you in, being that you are a
monster. Use the Lira Shell and talk to Hadat, who will mention the old man
Regg back in the village, who may be able to help you. Since you will not
make further progress in here right now, use Return magic and go back to
Lamia Village.

=============
Lamia Village
=============

Upon your return here, visit Regg's house (it's the house just east of the
gate to the temple). Talk to the old man and he will tell you to find the
Holy Cup in the temple first. Since I already sent you to find it, you will
have it with you here. Regg will fill it with holy water from his basement,
and you will be reverted back to your human form!

With that settled, exit the house and head back to the northwest gate. Enter
the temple (use Telepathy magic) and make your way back to the canal area the
same way you got there before.

=================
Underground Canal
=================

This time in the canal, make your way to the door in the southwest area like
you did before. Now that you are human, the door will be opened for you. Talk
to the people in here, then go through the northeast door to enter the
hideout.

=================
Runaways' Hideout
=================

When you enter this hideout, talk to Lilia who is standing by the door. She
will give you the Temple Key, which will open certain locked doors within the
temple above. However, Duless will appear and turn the escapees into statues.
You cannot do anything about that right now, so exit the hideout and
backtrack through the canal until you reach the temple again.

=============
Temple: Tovah
=============

Back up here, go up the stairs to the northwest. Go west and south, then up
the stairs immediately to the west. Follow that upper path to the next area.

=============
Temple: Dabby
=============

In this area, go west along the path until you reach the area with the
enemies. Head north and west, then down the stairs. Go north, passing under
the path above, and enter one of the two doors to the north (they both lead
to the same room). In there, go all the way west, then head north at the end
of the hall. Go through the door to the northern room, and open the chest
inside to receive the Time Stop Magic.

Exit this room, then head south to the split and go east, exiting from one of
the two doors. Go south under the overpasses and head back up those stairs,
then go east to the path split. Head south slightly, then take the upper path
all the way west. Follow this path to the south and east to reach a door, and
go ahead and enter that room. Go west and north, and pass through the next
doorway. In the second room, go south and east to a split, then head north.
Open the chest you find to receive an Iron Shield; be sure to equip it!

With your new shield, go back south and west to the previous room, then
continue through the other room until you are back outside. Follow the path
back around to the west, north, and east, then continue eastward to the next
area of the temple.

=============
Temple: Tovah
=============

Head down the stairs ahead, then go all the way northeast. Go east and under
the overpass, and go up the stairs at the end. On the upper path, go east to
reach the next temple area.

=============
Temple: Hadal
=============

Go east here, then head all the way south to the very end. Go down the nearby
stairs and continue east, where you will see a room in the center area.
Ignore it for now (you will come back here soon), and keep going eastward on
this level. At the east end, go up the stairs to the upper level. Go north
and east along the path to the Messa area, then onward to the Gemma section.
Go down the steps there and head all the way north through the gate you
opened earlier, to reach the Fact area.

============
Temple: Fact
============

In this section, head east and north along the path. At the next path split,
go east some more and follow the north path into a new room. Follow the path
through this room and open the previously locked door. Continue onward and
you will end up in a different part of the Underground Canal area.

=================
Underground Canal
=================

In this area, you will notice that there are three paths leading to the
southern area. Take the eastmost path and cross the bridge to the east at the
first split. Follow the northeast path around, then at the next split, go
south again. Go all the way east to the far wall, then head north along the
wall to reach a chest containing the Silver Pendant.

With the pendant in hand, backtrack your way to the entrance of the canal. If
you take the western path, you can find a chest containing a Celceta Flower.
Anyway, go back out to the temple above, and then continue backtracking to
the Hadal section (to save time, you can use Return magic to get to Lamia
Village, and reenter the temple from there).

=============
Temple: Hadal
=============

Back in the first area, make your way to the room in the south-central area.
It is the one I told you to ignore en route to the canals just now. Before
you proceed inside, make sure you are at least up to Level 37 or so. If not,
then explore the temple and fight the enemies until you are at that point.
When you are set to go, enter the room and head through the doors ahead to
meet the boss. If you need help defeating Druegar, please visit the Bosses
section of this guide.

Following the battle, you will earn 1500 EXP and 2200G as rewards. Go into
the northern room, and there will be a statue inside. Equip the Silver
Pendant and touch the statue to warp into a new area.

=================
Temple: West Wing
=================

In the new area, start by going into the northwest room. Continue southward
and head west along the path. Go north and west to find another path split;
go northward some more to reach another room. Head around the corner in here
and you will see two doorways; take the northern door to reach the East Wing.

=================
Temple: East Wing
=================

In here, simply go north and exit through the door around the corner. As soon
as you step outside here, Hadat will contact you through the Lira Shell. He
will tell you that a child in the village wants to talk to you. This is not
an urgent matter, so you don't need to go right now. Head all the way east
through this area, defeating the enemies along the way. When you reach the
far east end of the path, go into the room there. Use Telepathy magic, then
go north and out at the other end.

When you emerge, talk to the guards and you will find out that the key to the
canal is missing. Get past the guards and switch back to normal form, and
head west until you see stairs leading to the lower level. Go down them, then
enter the northwest room. In there, go forward and open the chest to receive
the Battle Shield. Exit the room and go back up the stairs, then head all the
way west. At the end, enter the next room. Defeat the guard in here and head
north to reach the canal again.

=================
Underground Canal
=================

Down here again, follow the path leading to the southwest. Follow it along
the water's edge as it wraps around, until you reach a path leading southward
across the water. Follow it to the west and then to the far north. At the
north end, go west and north across another bridge, then go east across
another bridge when you have a chance. Once you do that, simply follow the
straightforward path through the area until you reach the northeast corner of
the map. You will meet up with Keith here, who will give you the Water
Control Room Key. This will allow you to drain the canals, allowing you
access to new areas down here.

At this point, it is a good time to return to Lamia Village to see the child
Hadat mentioned to you earlier. So, use a Wing or Return magic to quickly get
back to there.

=============
Lamia Village
=============

Back in the village, head to Hadat's house in the southwest. Talk to Talf
inside, who will mention that Duless was seen recently. Leave the house and
visit Regg's house to recover your HP/MP, then head back into the temple (use
Telepathy magic to get past the guards).

=============
Temple: Hadal
=============

When you return, head west and up the two sets of stairs. Follow the path to
the east and all the way northward, then westward into the next area.

=============
Temple: Tovah
=============

Here, go down the steps when you get to them. Follow the path under the
overpass asnd head west to the open area. Go directly southward and down the
next set of stairs here. Go south and east to find a small building; enter
the room there. In here, head north and you will enter the first area of the
canals again.

=================
Underground Canal
=================

Down here, head south and all the way east across the two bridges. You will
reach a water dragon door; use the Water Control Room Key to open it. In that
room, go to the north wall and pull the lever to drain the canals. Exit this
room and head west across the first two bridges. Take the western path
leading to the south. Follow the path until you reach a ladder leading into
the drained section of the canal, and climb down it.

In the lower area, go east and follow the path all the way northward. At the
north end, go east and take the southeast path. Go south and east until you
see another ladder. Climb up it and you will find a chest; open it to receive
Battle Armor. Go back down the ladder and go east a short bit, then follow
the narrow path to the north. At the end, climb up the ladder to reach the
upper area again.

From here, go east and follow the path around until you reach another ladder.
Go down it and follow the path leading northward into the next room. There,
head south until you reach a path split. Go to the southeast and follow the
path around to yet another split. At that point, go south and all the way to
the west. Head south at the end, then go west and northward to reach some
stairs. Go up them and follow the path leading southward into another room.
In there, defeat the enemy and open the chest to collect the Battle Sword.

Exit this room and head back down the stairs to the north. Go all the way
south and east, then north and east at the next split. Ahead, you will see a
path leading southward. Take that path and go up the stairs, then follow the
path all the way east and north to another chest. Open it to find the Falcon
Statue accessory. Now, head all the way southward and enter the next room.

=================
Temple: West Wing
=================

Head south and east here, and you will again meet with Keith. He will tell
you about the bell tower ahead, as well as the sacrifices taking place. Go
through the southern door to reach a new area.

==============
Palace Passage
==============

Out here, start by going up the western stairs. Defeat the enemies and head
west to a path split. Take the southern path and beat the fast-moving enemies
along the way. Head west along the path and you will reach the palace at
last.

=================
Goddesses' Palace
=================

In this area, go west and north until you reach the palace itself. Enter the
palace and the Goddesses of Ys will call to you. Go to the center area of the
room and they will tell you to bring back the Dreaming Statue, found in the
bell tower. There is not much else you can do here for now, so exit the
palace. Head back to the south along the path, and go east to the previous
area.

==============
Palace Passage
==============

Back here, go east and north to the split. This time, head all the way
northward and to the east at the end. Enter the doorway you see and you will
then be inside of the bell tower.

==========
Bell Tower
==========

When you enter this tower, first make sure you heal up, then save your game.
I also recommend that you are at least up to Level 43-44 at this point. You
should have the Battle Armor/Shield equipped, as well as the Falcon Statue
and Medicinal Herbs. When you are set to go, head through the door and meet
Zava. Read the Bosses section for help defeating this extremely tough boss.

After the battle, you will receive 2500 EXP and 2400G. Go into the northern
room from here. Go east and north, and you will hear that the ceremony is
beginning. Up ahead, go to the edge of the platform and you will see Maria on
a platform in front of you. You cannot help her yet, so continue to the east
and north, going up the stairs at the end.

Continue through the next several rooms as the paths are straightforward, and
you will soon hear the second bell. On the next floor, you will find a split
in the path. If you take the northern path, you will find a treasure chest
which is blocked by a barrier of fire. You will return here soon, so continue
to the east along the main path. When you reach the roof, you will hear the
third bell. Continue onward and you will get to hear the fourth bell soon
after. At that point, save your game before proceeding further.

At the very top of the roof, you will meet Duless again. After he is done
talking, the bell will ring for the fifth time. Once Duless leaves, head back
down through the tower just as you came up. Along the way, go into the alcove
where you saw the treasure chest. You can now open it, so go ahead and
collect the Dreaming Statue inside. Continue downward through the tower until
you exit, then return to the Goddesses' Palace in the southwest.

=================
Goddesses' Palace
=================

Make your way back into the palace, and you will meet the Goddesses of Ys
once more. You may have the Dreaming Statue, but the goddesses mention that
you need the Black Pearl in order to use it. At least you recovered your
HP/MP in here. Head back to Lamia Village (Return magic).

=============
Lamia Village
=============

When you return to the village, head over to Hadat's house. Talk to Talf and
it turns out that he had the pearl, but dropped it! He will suggest talking
to Gort, so exit the house. Go up by the northwest gate and talk to Gort, who
mentions the caped man (Duless) having found it himself. With that said, use
Telepathy magic and go through the gate.

================
Temple: Entrance
================

When you approach the guards this time, they will mention that the meeting is
now complete. They will mention Duless having found something important. With
that said, go through the doors and switch back into your normal form.

=============
Temple: Hadal
=============

In the temple once more, head east and up the two sets of stairs on that
side. Go west and all the way north, the east to the Messa area. Follow the
path right along to reach the Gemma segment.

=============
Temple: Gemma
=============

Upon entering this area, go down the stairs nearby. Head northward under the
overpass, and continue northward past the guard to reach the Fact area.

============
Temple: Fact
============

In this area, head northward to the main path. Go east, north, and west until
you reach the stairs. Go down them, and defeat the guards in front of the
doorway. Enter that room, then go through the previously locked door to reach
the meeting room. Retrieve the Black Pearl on the center pedestal, then use
Return magic and head back to the Goddesses' Palace.

=================
Goddesses' Palace
=================

When you arrive in this area, head northward into the palace itself. Go to
the center area, and the goddesses will tell you to use the Black Pearl and
Dreaming Statue atop the bell tower. That means you will be heading all the
way to the top of the tower once more, so go ahead and do that.

==========
Bell Tower
==========

When you make it to the roof of the bell tower, stand underneath the giant
bell and use the Dreaming Statue. A light will shine from it, breaking the
curse on those who were petrified. You will also gain around 2000 EXP as a
result of this. With that settled, head to the Runaways' Hideout.

=================
Underground Canal
=================

When you arrive in the area outside of the hideout, you will find that
everyone is back to normal. Talk to them and Keith will appear, giving
everyone Wings so they can return to their own villages. Bortz will also give
you a Gold Pendant as an added reward. Now, make your way through the canal
to reach the temple again, then make your way to the Fact section and reenter
the canal from there.

When you revisit the canal from Temple: Fact, you will see three paths in
front of you. Take the western path to the south. Go east at the first split,
and when you reach the ladder leading to the drained area, pass it and
continue to the east. Go all the way south to another path split, then make
your way southward some more. At the bottom of the map, go west and follow
the path around to meet Sadah. He will give you the Cleria Sword, and
mentions a suit of armor at his house. With the sword in hand, warp back to
Lamia Village.

=============
Lamia Village
=============

Upon your return, head over to Hadat's house. Talk to him and he will give
you the Cleria Armor after you explain what happened with Sadah. When you are
done here, heal up at Regg's house before heading back into the temple.

=============
Temple: Hadal
=============

After you make it past the entrance as usual, you will be back here. Go up
the stairs on either side, and enter the center room. Make your way through
the next several rooms, until you reach the statue. This time, equip the Gold
Pendant and touch the statue. When you emerge in the new room, go through the
northern door to reach a new area of the canal.

=================
Underground Canal
=================

In this area, go down the ladder and follow the lower path as it heads
southward. At the end of the path, go up the ladder and enter the northern
room.

================
Temple Underpass
================

Over here, simply head west through the hallway. When you reach the door,
make your usual preparations (heal and save, also make sure you have the
Cleria gear equipped). When you are ready, go through the boss door to meet
Duless once more. Visit the Bosses section if you need help defeating him.
After you defeat him, you will earn 3500 EXP! Now, touch the north wall and
you will reach the Center of Ys.

============
Center of Ys
============

As soon as you arrive here, open the treasure chest to receive Shield Magic.
Head all the way south and ride the elevator downward, then continue into the
next room. Go east and talk to Talf, then continue to the next room. Talk to
Maria in the next room, and then continue onward through the area until you
reach a dead end. Start to head back and Keith will break through a nearby
wall.

Follow Keith into the new room, and continue onward to find Gort, who is
standing next to a barrier. Talk to him and then follow the path to another
dead end. You will find Lilia there; talk to her and she will give you the
Goddess Ring. Head back to where Gort is and walk into the barrier to clear
it (you don't even need to equip the ring, apparently). So, continue to the
northwest along the path, and step into the portal at the end.

In the area where you emerge, go west and north to find the goddesses trapped
on their pedestals. Approach the north door and you will hear an evil entity
speaking to you. After it is done, Gorvan and Luther (from Ys I) will appear.
Gorvan will give you the Silver Harmonica to use here against the evil
forces. Before you do that, talk to Luther and he will give you the Cleria
Shield.

Equip your new shield, then go forward and use the Silver Harmonica. The
goddesses will be free, and the evil barrier will be cleared. Talk to Reah
and Feena, and your sword will be powered up. You will also receive 2000 EXP
here.

This is the final point where you can turn back and leave here, so if you are
not at Level 55 (the maximum), I advise you to warp to the Goddesses' Palace
and level up with the enemies around there. Also, make sure you have full
HP/MP, and all of the Cleria equipment selected, as well as the Shield magic.
When you are ready to proceed, step through the door between the goddesses.
Go north and the bridge will break behind you as you cross. At the far end,
save your game if you are set to go. Then, step into the portal to meet the
final boss.

In this final area, you will meet Dahm face to face. After a brief speech,
the battle will commence. View the Bosses section if you need help defeating
this final boss. Upon completion of the battle, you will receive 5000 EXP.
Now, watch the final scenes and the credits ahead. Congratulations on
completing Ys: Book II!

Book I Bosses
=============

Jenocres
   Found: Temple
   Recommended Level: 9
   Strategy: In the room where you fight this first boss, you will see three
             rows of flames shooting out of the walls. You will see a puff
             of smoke in the wall openings just prior to the flames shooting
             out. After the flames subside, there will be a pause for you to
             run into the room. The boss itself will appear in random
             locations between the flames, and you will have to run in and
             attack when the boss is visible. You may not be able to get
             through every single time, but if the boss is close enough and
             there is an opening between the flames, go for it.

Nygtilger
   Found: Temple B3
   Recommended Level: 15
   Strategy: This long millipede boss is VERY fast, so it will come in handy
             to have the auto-run feature set in advance. The Silver Shield
             and Defense Ring will be great to have equipped prior to the
             battle, being the high possibility of taking damage here. The
             boss's weak point is its tail, but it moves too quickly to make
             that easily accessible. The best approach is to run across the
             room, then quickly run in a circle around the boss, and strike
             its tail when you get close enough. It is a good idea to strike
             once, then run away, since you will take a lot of damage if you
             get caught in between the boss's body. It should not take too
             many rounds of letting it chase you and then you running around
             to cause damage, if you are sufficiently leveled.

Petrorex
   Found: Vageux-Vardette
   Recommended Level: 20
   Strategy: The boss here consists of a main body and long arms that spin
             around the body and extend outward. The main battle pattern is
             rather simple; the boss moves around the room, spinning its
             arms around and sending an electrical wave in your direction.
             It will periodically stop moving/spinning, and will extend its
             arms in a direction to attack you, then it will briefly pause
             before spinning some more. The best strategy here is to run
             around the boss and wait for it to stop, then run in and
             quickly attack the body before moving out of the way. You must
             be quick in doing this, since you will take a LOT of damage if
             you get caught in between its spinning arms during an attack!

Vagullion
   Found: Mine Bottom
   Recommended Level: 24
   Strategy: This battle is quite annoying since you will be spending most
             of your time running from a huge group of small bats. They are
             strong and can quickly reduce your HP, even at the recommended
             level, so usage of the Defense Ring is quite essential to your
             survival. You will want to keep your distance from the bats by
             running around/away from them, luring them into opposite
             corners so you have room to run around the group, etc. You will
             see the bats sometimes fly closer together, which makes moving
             around them easier. This movement will also signal when they
             will combine into the larger form, which you can run in and
             attack. The large form is only visible for a brief moment, so
             you need to run in and attack quickly, then get out of the way
             as the smaller bats reappear. It is REQUIRED that you have the
             silver equipment on, particularly the Silver Sword, in order to
             damage this boss! The battle may take a while, but as long as
             you are able to avoid contact with the smaller bats, you should
             be fine.

Pictimos
   Found: Dahm Tower F8
   Recommended Level: 24
   Strategy: This boss battle is actually quite simple to get through. The
             giant boss moves back and forth along the northern half of the
             room, throwing three spinning blades in your direction to
             attack. The blades will return to the boss, at which point
             three more will be thrown. Move around to avoid the blades,
             then attack the boss a couple times from the sides, and repeat
             the process. It is a quick and easy battle, but the blades will
             cause a lot of damage, so be careful not to get hit by them!

Khonsclard
   Found: Dahm Tower F14
   Recommended Level: 24
   Strategy: This strange creature moves around the room, shooting lines of
             smaller rocks in multiple directions. These rock streams move
             as the boss rotates, and the direction of movement changes
             during the battle as well. You will take quite a beating if you
             get caught in the line of fire, so watch out! The best approach
             is to move around in the same direction as the boss, and attack
             when you have an opening and can get close enough to do so. The
             battle won't take very long, but you need to be aware of your
             surroundings in order to actually survive it.

Yogrex & Omrgun
   Found: Dahm Tower F21
   Recommended Level: 24
   Strategy: Now this will be a rather tough battle, since you will almost
             certainly be forced to take a bit of damage throughout the
             fight. You are against two giant heads, one is yellow and the
             other is blue, and both have four diamonds/flames rotating
             around them. The yellow head is the only one vulnerable to
             attack, but it will be difficult to get past the diamonds
             surrounding it unharmed. The best approach I have found is to
             run at it straight on, and quickly attack it. As soon as you
             land an attack, the heads will switch placement and will
             continue bouncing around the room. As you lower their HP, one
             of the diamonds/flames rotating around them will vanish, making
             it somewhat easier for you to attack. It will be helpful if you
             select the Heal Potion from the item mennu (if you have one)
             prior to the battle so you can use it immediately if needed.

Dark Fact
   Found: Dahm Tower F25
   Recommended Level: 24
   Strategy: At last, you are at the final boss of the game. It really is
             not that difficult, as long as you have the autorun feature
             activated, and even more importantly have the Silver gear
             equipped. It will cause way more damage than the Flame Sword
             can, so it is easily worth it. As for the battle, Dark Fact
             will bounce around the room while three meteors will fall from
             above to hit where you are currently standing. Keep moving and
             look around, and you should be able to avoid them easily. Each
             time you actually damage Dark Fact, the section of the platform
             you were standing on will vanish. If you do not move, you will
             die instantly! Of course, this will reduce the playing field</pre><pre id="faqspan-3">
             for you, so you will need to wait for Dark Fact to reach
             certain areas so you can attack more easily. Because of the
             sheer strength of the Silver Sword here, the battle will not
             last very long, especially if you are at Level 24.

==============
Book II Bosses
==============

Belagunder
   Found: Rastini Mines
   Recommended Level: 10
   Strategy: For this first boss battle, you can only damage it with your
             Fire magic. If you run in close to attack with your sword, you
             will not hurt it, plus you will run the risk of taking a
             beating from its projectile attacks. The boss moves back and
             forth, sending a wave of blue projectiles in all directions to
             attack. The weak spot is the main body in the middle, so
             charging up your Fire magic and attacking when you have an
             opening will be the best strategy to follow. There are gaps
             between the projectiles, so use those spaces to your advantage.
             Stay towards the bottom of the screen so you have more time to
             react to the boss's attacks. It will take a while, even at
             Level 10-11, but it really is an easy battle.

Tyalmath
   Found: Noltia Ice Walls
   Recommended Level: 21
   Strategy: This giant creature will constantly hop around the room,
             landing periodically to attack. You can see its shadow so you
             will know exactly where it is heading, that way you can run out
             of its way. As soon as the boss lands, it will send lines of
             rocks in five directions. These can be very damaging, so make
             sure you avoid this attack at all costs. Your only attack to
             use is the Fire magic, so keep your distance and let loose with
             a charged shot each time Tyalmath lands on the ground. If you
             are above Level 20, your shots will do a considerable amount of
             damage, so the battle won't take too long to complete.

Gelaldy
   Found: Burnedbless
   Recommended Level: 28
   Strategy: This boss consists of a giant skull-like head that moves rather
             slowly through the area. It will open its mouth, sending a
             giant worm creature to follow you around the area for a while.
             You cannot hurt this creature or the boss at this time. Avoid
             the worm by running around the perimeter of the area and even
             around the boss itself. After a short period, Gelaldy will stop
             moving and open its mouth wide to eat the giant worm. This is
             your only chance to cause damage, so get in front of the boss
             and use Fire magic to attack. Charged shots will do more
             damage, naturally. As soon as the worm is gone, the mouth will
             close and the pattern will repeat. As you deplete the boss's
             HP, fire-based enemies will also emerge from its mouth (you can
             only kill them with your main weapon, but it may be easier to
             just avoid them). It may take a bit longer than usual to kill
             this boss, so be patient here.

Druegar
   Found: Temple: Hadal
   Recommended Level: 37
   Strategy: This battle is against a giant spider which comes down from the
             ceiling initially. It follows you around the room, periodically
             shooting energy balls which home in on you to attack. It will
             also drop a bunch of eggs in a circular formation, which will
             shatter, sending many small fragments in all directions. You
             can destroy these things by attacking them with Fire magic,
             however. As for attacking the boss itself, its only weak point
             is the front of its head, and it is only vulnerable to Fire
             magic. Charged shots will work well, though you will want to
             attack once or twice before moving away, since you will take a
             lot of damage or even die if you get trapped against the south
             wall. Lure the boss to the north wall, then run around and let
             loose with your attacks for the best results.

Zava
   Found: Bell Tower
   Recommended Level: 44
   Strategy: This is easily the toughest battle you will face in this game!
             You can not hurt Zava directly, but she will send out waves of
             smaller bats which will use spraying projectile attacks to hit
             you. Initially, there will only be two bats sent after you.
             They will move quickly all throughout the area, stopping
             periodically to use their spray attack. This can be difficult
             to avoid, but you need to keep moving. It is important that you
             constantly charge your Fire magic and attack these bats when
             they are near. If you have the Falcon Statue accessory, it will
             help you immensely here. Once you kill the bats, another wave
             will be sent out, so you have to fight two, then three, and
             finally four bats at once. When a bat is weak, it will flash
             red, so it would be helpful to target/kill the weak ones to
             reduce the threat when possible. After you kill the four bats,
             Zava will start a constant stream of attacking, sending many
             projectiles in all directions. Use charged Fire magic shots to
             cause damage to her, while avoiding the single bat left flying
             around. It won't take very long at this point to defeat Zava;
             your biggest concern should be keeping enough distance so you
             can avoid the many projectiles.

Duless
   Found: Temple Underpass
   Recommended Level: 52
   Strategy: At first glance, this battle may seem a bit too difficult since
             Duless is surrounded by all sorts of magical attacks. If you
             are sufficiently leveled (at least 52), these will do minimal
             damage to you. As an added note, most magic is unusable in this
             battle, so Fire magic is out of the question. However, Time
             Magic can work out quite nicely if you use it properly. As for
             attacking Duless, keep your distance and he will soon vanish.
             Pay attention and you will see Duless reappear elsewhere in the
             room. Run over to that position and attack a couple times with
             your sword as soon as he fully materializes. More often than
             not, Duless will drop his barrier and vanish again after you
             attack, so you won't have to worry so much about dying in close
             proximity. The battle may take long given the boss's full HP
             bar, but if you have the Cleria Sword equipped and are at least
             Level 52, you will do a fair amount of damage with each attack.

Dahm
   Found: Dark Pearl Throne
   Recommended Level: 55
   Strategy: For this final battle, you will be dealing with a more or less
             constant barrage of attacks. Dahm will fly around the circular
             area, sending a huge spread of projectiles in all directions.
             In the center area, several dark orbs will rocket towards you
             to cause added damage. If you have the Shield magic equipped
             when you enter this battle, you will have a MUCH easier time.
             To attack, you need to strike Dahm directly with your regular
             weapon (the Cleria Sword). About halfway through the battle,
             Dahm will turn into a larger version of the Black Pearl, and
             will temporarily become invincible. It will stop moving to send
             a wave of projectiles across the area, so make sure you stand
             between the waves to avoid taking damage. After that attack,
             you can continue striking the pearl directly. Once you bring
             down its HP, the boss will be fully defeated, completing the
             game!
