While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and
effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your
appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the
donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping
me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated,
and are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do
decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the
e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for considering this!!

                         [email protected]

By the way, this is also my contact e-mail, so if you want to contribute
something to this or any of my other FAQs, or have a question to ask about one
of them, go ahead and use this e-mail.

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the Nintendo DS game known as
Left Brain Right Brain. This game is of a relatively unique type. It takes the
general stuff you'd find in a typical Brain Age-type game, but, rather than put
it towards edutainment, it puts towards something more ... trivial - one's own
ambidexterity, or ability to be able to use both hands in an equally-skilled
manner. It does pretty well, too.

..

That's all I have to say on this game. Enjoy.

--------
Start-Up
--------

You will begin by selecting "Exercises" to create your new profile. You can
then tap an empty profile and enter the desired name for it, up to seven
letters. You are then asked which hand of yours is your "good hand".

This question simply implies the one you use in everyday activities, such as
writing. Even the truly ambidextrous have a preferred hand, so, if you are
ambidextrous, just opt for whichever hand you prefer.

You will confirm this choice, then be forced to hold your DS/DSi/3DS in a
manner as if you were using the other hand. In other words, if you are good
with your right hand, you must now rotate the DS/DSi/3DS so the text is
legible while the console is in your right hand, so you will be using your
left hand for other activities.

----------
Game Modes
----------

At the main menu, there are several modes:

- Ambidexterity Check: You will play several of the minigames to see how
ambidextrous you are without creating a dedicated
                       profile for yourself.

- Exercises: This creates a dedicated profile and set of statistics for you,
as well as allowing you access to all of the minigames.

- DS Download Play: This allows you to play two more modes in which you can
play against another player via Download Play
(Multiplayer) or let another person play as they will
while you go about your business (Game Sharing).

- Options: Here, you can configure the positioning of the DS in relevance to
your dominant hand, erase profiles, and see the credits.

The Exercises mode will bring you to another set of menus. They are restricted
to those actually using the profile, and are as follows:

- [Left/Right] Hand: Use five sets of three minigames to strengthen your
                     non-dominant hand.

- Balance: See how balanced your ambidexterity is.

- L vs. R: A quick race through a maze to see which of your hands is faster.

- Data: See a number of statistics.

Throughout the course of the game, there are a number of minigames you will
play. They are found in the Ambidexterity Check, DS Download Play,
and the numerous submenus in the Exercise profiles.

Here, we will detail the minigames. For convenience, I have organized them
according to their level in the [Left/Right] Hand submenu of Exercises.

-------
Level 1
-------

~ "Touch the Green Square!": In this minigame, you are to tap the squares on
the Touch Screen as they turn green. Only touch
the green squares, as touching anywhere else will
prevent any tapping for a brief few seconds.

~ "Touch 'em All!": Here, a number of colored circles will appear on the Touch
Screen. Tap each of them and more will appear. Keep going!

~ "Surprise!": Here, you will first be faced with a big gray slab. Tap it and
it will crack into six smaller pieces. Touch of them to reveal
some object or animal, then to soon get another slab. Repeat.

-------
Level 2
-------

~ "Feel the Music!": In this minigame, you need to tap the notes as they turn
from gray to some other color. It will be oddly tough, as
they flash for very brief moments of time, so don't be
                     frustrated.

~ "Pop the Balloons!": Akin to a previous minigame, you'll have to tap all of
colored circles to get more to tap, and so on. However,
this time, they are moving. As you progress, there will
be more of them, moving at faster, more varied speeds.
I will note that the game doesn't care for actual
accuracy here, so feel more free to go a little crazy.

~ "Hit the Monsters!": The "Whack-a-Mole" of this game, you will just have to
tap the monsters as they pop out of the holes. Like
with the musical minigame, they appear very briefly, so
it helps to focus primarily on one hole or a small
group thereof. You also do get to hit the UFOs that fly
across the top of the screen, if you want.

-------
Level 3
-------

~ "Connect the Dots!": In this minigame, you will just have to tap one dot,
then drag a line through the rest of them to eliminate
them and receive another set. It's pretty simple... >_>

~ "Scratch Away!": Here, you'll receive a number of gray circles, and you'll
need to scratch them (rub them on the Touch Screen) to find
the word "HIT" beneath one of them. Remember to not scratch
any of the circles any more if you know it doesn't have
                   "HIT" under it!

~ "Save the World!": Here, a number of meteors, of slowly-decreasing sizes and
slowly-increasing speeds, will fall from the top of the
Touch Screen. All you need to do is flick them away, or
at least to where they are relatively harmless (top of
the screen), for as long as possible.

-------
Level 4
-------

~ "Open the Safe!": Here, you will see three numbers at the top of the Touch
Screen, and a dial below it. You simply need to drag the
pointer on the dial to each of the three numbers mentioned
previously - and you need to do so in order. There is a
slight margin of error allowed - within one dashed mark
is the limit - so feel free to go somewhat fast.

~ "Gather the Stars!": In this minigame, you will drag around a blue circle to
avoid being hit by the big red things while also trying
to grab the numerous blue stars. In this, you'll want
to prioritize survival over actually getting stars -
you need to live to get them, y'know?

~ "Roll on Down!": In this minigame, you'll need to drag the multicolor ball
to the left and right to avoid the pink walls. Beyond that,
you are measured for how far you get. Try to avoid the
multicolor arrows, by the way - all they really do is speed
you up, making it harder to get a decent score.

-------
Level 5
-------

~ "Write the Letter!": In this minigame, you will be told to write some
letters, obviously, and as many as possible in a given
period of time. This game will mostly try to just
detect the necessary structural strokes in the letters,
so just try to emulate those if the game is having
                       trouble deciphering your handwriting.

~ "Trace the Shape!": Much like a certain minigame on Mario Party DS, you will
need to trace the outline of a shape, while trying to
balance both speed and accuracy. Remember, you need to
trace the literal outline - pretty much anything else
will somehow penalize you - so just trace on the line.

~ "Navigate the Maze!": As it says, just drag the black circle through the
given maze without hitting anything. Just focus and
don't panic and you'll be fine.
