Introduction and guide update [C01]
==============================================================================
The game is based on manga/anime series called 'Kirarin Revolution'.
In JP version text is written in kana, except for several names and days of
week. In this guide all names/items/locations/etc. are written in romaji.
Main heroine's name is Kirari, but in EU version her name is written as
Kilari. Both name's versions are correct.
The game is unpopular, probably because it was not advertised properly
outside Japan, plus it was designed for girls, but it is a playable J-RPG.
At first, I wanted to find some information about costumes, but soon ended up
by writing this guide. The guide has massive information about both versions
of the game. Currently the guide is a little bit incomplete, with one open
question.
Where the last hairstyle/dress/shoes and three accessories for Kirari can
be found?*
*It seems like there is something to do with Ribbon-Ribbon-Star-Nayan code,
but I could not notice any changes after entering the code in Daily Advice
(omikuji) mode in both versions of the game.
Guide update history:
2014/06/05 – the guide was written

Story [C02]
==============================================================================
(Spoilers excluded)
Rising star Kirari is getting a follow-up CD. Her agency is going to launch a
promotional campaign, but competitors will do everything to prevent it. Kirari
is forced to do different entertainment jobs in order to become an admitted
pop-idol.
New missions do not always unlock in strict order, because unlocking depends
on skills' level. I beat the game three times and every time missions became
available in different order. The game does not have 'The End' screen; and
this absense can confuse you. It is not important in which order complete
missions, but I strongly recommend to hold over these missions until every
other are finished. Play them in following order:
1) The Elusive X (Kaitou X no youkokujou)
2) Dancing with Fukuki (Fubuki to dansu kyouen)
3) Kilari NY Debut (Kirari*NY debyu-!)
4) The Climax (koi*kira kuraimakkusu)
After each mission 1-4 special dialogs would take place, and after that you
will be asked to save and redirected to title screen. It is all right, just
continue as usually.
==============================================================================
Controls [C03]
==============================================================================
The game requires using stylus and microphone. You can control Kirari only
with stylus.
Up/Left/Right/Down – movement respective buttons. Diagonal movement is
allowed
X – opens collection menu (Clothes (kisekae) icon)
Y – opens inventory (Bag (kaban) icon)
A – select an option; interact with a NPCs/object; pick up; read next page
B – hold it to run; hold it to greatly hasten dialog speed
L/R – change upper screen mode between map and skill level
Start – save
Select – no apparent use
==============================================================================

Mini-games [C05]
==============================================================================
The game has great tutorials for every mini-game. Before playing mini-game you
can rewatch its tutorial as many times as you wish. Most of them can be
played both at Mini-game mode in the menu, and every mini-game can be played
directly in-game as part of missions/training/entertainment. Your best score
will be recorded anyway.
Mini-games often require timing. You can be asked to touch an icon, trace a
line, blow, talk, clap, memorize something, etc. Mini-games, as well as
missions, frequently mix these actions.

==============================================================================
Skills [C06]
==============================================================================
There are 4 different skills: Sing (uta), Dance (dansu), Act (engi) and Other
(baraeti). You should train Kirari little by little to proceed further.
In EU ver. skill level is called Star Level, in JP it is called Idoru Reberu.
In this guide I call it simply Skill Level.
Skill level can be seen at the top screen (Star level mode, press L/R). There
are five grey stars next to each skill at the start. After first tutorials you
will notice small hearts appear under each row. These are skill points.
10 skill points will fill a star for 1/3. So, in order to fully maximize one
skill, you will need 150 skill points. 4,66/5 would be enough to unlock all
missions; to unlock all BGM you need 5/5.
From following activities Kirari would gain 1-4 skill points:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skill | Action | Skill points
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sing | Return Fubuki Bag (Fubuki no kaban) | 1
(uta) | Return Hiroto's Wallet (Hiroto no osaifu) | 1
| Train at KAMA Studio (KAMA sutajio) | 4
| Train at CD Shop (CD shoppu) | 1
| Complete a respective mission | 4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dance | Return Seiji's Wallet (Seiji no osaifu) | 1
(dansu) | Return Izumi Bag (Izumi no kaban) | 1
| Train at Afro Dancing (afuro danshingu) | 4
| Traing at CD Shop (CD shoppu) | 1
| Complete a respective mission | 4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Act | Return Arashi's Wallet (Arashi no osaifu) | 1
(engi) | Return Pierre Bag (Pie-ru no kaban) | 1
| Train at Benibara Stage (gekidan benibara) | 4
| Train at CD Shop (CD shoppu) | 1
| Complete a respective mission | 4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other | Return Higashiyama Bag (Higashiyama no kaban) | 1
(baraeti)| Return Erina's Wallet (Erina no osaifu) | 1
| Train ar School (gakkou) - any option | 4
| Train at Cake/Crepe Shops (ke-kiyasan/kure-piyasan) | 2
| Train at CD Shop (CD shoppu) | 1
| Complete a respective mission | 4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not every mission would gain skill points despite each mission has
Sing/Dance/Act/Other indicator.
Training at CD Shop grants dynamic amount of skill points. If none of skills
are maximized, Kirari gains +1 to every skill. If two of them are maximized
- for example, Sing and Dance! - then Kirari gains +2 Act and +2 Other.
==============================================================================
Inventory [C07]
==============================================================================
Inventory (Bag (kaban) icon, Y button) contains three sections:
1) Bag. All non-flower and non-seed items stores here. There are only 14 slots
for items. 1 item = 1 slot. Items do not stack. Discard option is available.
2) Flowers. All 15 kinds of flowers stores here. Flowers of each kind stack up
to 999 items.
3) Seeds. All 15 kinds of seeds stores here. Seeds of each kind stack up to
999 items.
==============================================================================
Points [C08]
==============================================================================
I.e. in-game money. They can be spent on costumes for Kirari and Na-san, and
at Game Arcade (ge-mu senta-). If you do not plan to collect any clothes, do
not bother about points at all. You need 185800 points to buy everything from
both Tisla shops.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Method of obtaining | Amount of points
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Randomly from a shiny spot on the ground | 20-99
Return someone's lost item | 10-500
Win a ball in Na-san Crane Game (Na-san kyaccha-)| 100-200
Sell an item | 20-150
Autograph at CD Shop (CD shoppu) | 200
Eating at Cake/Crepe Shops (ke-ki/kure-piyasan) | 100
Complete a mission | 0-1500
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Picking shiny objects up is an efficient way to accumulate points, because,
firstly, they can be found quite often and, secondly, it slightly hastens
in-game time, and, thirdly, Kirari can find a lost item.
Returning a lost item is a nice method too. Kirari would also get one bonus
point to a skill. These items have a small chance to be picked up, though.
They can not be sold or given to wrong NPC, but can be tossed. During one day
multiple items can be found. You can keep the same items in inventory. Items
without owner’s name should be presented to Mr. officer (Omawari-san).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Item's name | Points | Bonus
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Pierre Bag (Pie-ru no kaban) | 500 | +1 Act (engi)
Higashiyama Bag (Higashiyama no kaban)| 300 | +1 Other (baraeti)
Fubuki Bag (Fubuki no kaban) | 200 | +1 Sing (uta)
Arashi's Wallet (Arashi no osaifu) | 100 | +1 Act (engi)
Seiji's Wallet (Seiji no osaifu) | 100 | +1 Dance (dansu)
Hiroto's Wallet (Hiroto no osaifu) | 100 | +1 Sing (uta)
Erina's Wallet (Erina no osaifu) | 30 | +1 Other (baraeti)
Izumi Bag (Izumi no kaban) | 10 | +1 Dance (dansu)
Wallet/Bag (osaifu/kaban) | 100 | No bonus
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Izumi gives especially laughable reward, so feel free to toss his bag.
Yes, HIS.
Na-san Crane Game (Na-san kyaccha-) coasts 100 points per game. Balls would
sometimes fall down, leaving you without a prize. Save before each try. Blue
balls contain 100p (actual player income 0p); red balls contain 200p (income
100p).
The woman in Florist shop (hanayasan) buys following things:
----------------------------------------------
Item's name | Points
----------------------------------------------
Salmon (arowana) | 150
Carp (koi) | 120
Black Bass (burakku basu) | 100
Trout (nijimasu) | 80
Cookie Fish (tayaki) | 60
Sardine (ayu) | 50
Goldfish (kingyo) | 30
Anchovy (medaka) | 20
Clothier Ticket (fukuyasan no ken)* | 50
----------------------------------------------
*DO NOT sell Clothier Tickets until you have all 104 costumes/hairstyles
obtainable via Ticket.
As you can see, she buys items mostly associated with fishing. Fishing takes
decent in-game time, plus fishes are random, so save the game twice before
trying to fish something useful up.
Kirari can autograph at CD Shop once per day. Interacting with the employee at
the shop triggers tracing mini-game. Afterwards you would get 200 points and
bonus. Kirari gains +1 skill point to every skill. Not a bad way to earn
points, especially at the start.
There are two sweets shops in the city: Cake Shop (ke-kiyasan) and Crepe Shop
(kure-piyasan). They are identical. Kirari can eat in each shop once per day.
Reward is only 100 points and +2 Other skill. Eating hastens time greatly. I
do not recommend you to spend time here.
And the most effective way to earn points – completing a mission! You will do
it every in-game day. At the start Kirari can earn up to 300p and in the end
up to 1500p. (You can be confronted by a bug (both JP and EU versions); there
are two normal long missions which strangely do not award with points at all).
Amount of points calculates depending on your efforts. The more 'Good!', the
more income. In order to gain maximum amount of points, DO NOT SKIP
conversations. Skipping cuts amount of points by half. Examples of most paid
missions (up to 1500 points):
Dancing with Fubuki (Fubuki to dansu kyouen);
Hidden Hot Springs (Hikyou onsen repo-to <3);
The Elusive X (Kaitou X no yokokujou);
Kilari NY Debut (Kirari*NY debyu-);
The Climax (koi*kira kuraimakkusu).
I recommend 'The Climax' since it is the shortest and the easiest among
end-game missions; its conversation part is unnoticeable.
==============================================================================
Missions [C09]
==============================================================================
Every in-game day you will be forced to do missions, even if you beat the
game.
Each day in one certain moment Kumoi calls Kirari and asks her to visit their
agency. This moment onwards Kirari's job time begins. If you wish, you can
start job time earlier by interacting with Muranishi.
Go to Agency Area (jimusho eria), enter Muranishi Prod. (Muranishi jimusho)
building. The man always have '?' mark. Talk to him to trigger a standard
dialog. You will be able to choose a mission from a list. Later you would
notice he uses two sets of lists, mixes their contents and switches them from
time to time. New missions display at the top of list. Completed missions have
Star/A/B/C mark. All missions are associated with Sing/Dance/Act/Other skills.
You can replay them.
Be careful, once you click on any mission, it will be considered as chosen. If
this is an old one, you would be asked what to do with conversation. Do not
skip it ('iie' option), if you want to earn more points.
Almost all missions consist of conversation part and main mini-game part.
Conversations include dialogs, actions (trace a line, blow, touch an icon,
etc.) and even off mini-games. Main mini-game includes… well, a mini-game
only.
It is likely you would never get a C, because missions are easy. 'Hidden Hot
Springs' (Hikyou onsen repo-to <3) mission seems to be the only one you can
fail, because you need to win Table Tennis game. Save before talking with
Muranishi.
If you fail, you immediately get a C and Kirari returns to agency and then
to her home.
When you finish a mission, Kirari returns to the agency and a standard dialog
takes place. After that you will learn today's result and, again, a dialog
appears. You can save and return to title screen.
There are two missions which do not grant points (both in EU and JP ver.).
==============================================================================
In-game time [C10]
==============================================================================
Time management is a big problem. You would unlikely have enough time to do
everything you want. Kumoi's phone call can ruin the whole day. I will try to
explain game mechanics, but first, some infornation about days of week.
You can see what day is it by looking at the top screen (map mode). Adventure
will be started at Monday. This information would be almost useless, because
days do not seem to affect gameplay noticeably, except for Sunday. On Sundays,
secret character Hikaru appears on cat-shaped island in the Park (koen eria).
Normally Kirari has some free time before job time. During free time she can
pick shiny objects up from the ground, fish, enter buildings, give presents,
plant/water/pick up flowers. During job time (generally after Kumoi's call,
and during rare tutorials or chases) Kirari is unable to do these activities.
She can also become unable for triggering special unlock dialogs (NPC with '?'
mark). She will still be able to leave buildings, interact with vendors if she
is in a shop, talk to any NPC and wander through the city.
Sadly, there are no cloaks or environment changes to determine when Kumoi
would call. However, player is able to predict it, at least closely.
In-game time seems to be feebly connected to real time, but Kirari's actions
hasten the phone call.
o The most time-consuming activities are training at:
KAMA Studio (KAMA sutajio);
Benibara Stage (gekidan Benibara);
Afro Dancing (afuro danshingu);
School (gakkou);
CD Shop (CD shoppu);
Cake/Crepe Shop (ke-kiyasan/kure-piyasan).
Kirari can train at up to 4 of these places per day, but if she does not do
anything else.
o One fishing = two exchanging gifts. Casting a line hastens time itself, no
matter if did not catch anything.
o Exchanging gifts (flowers, Clothier Tickets, lost items) and talking with
question-marked NPCs takes less time, although I did not count how much
gifts Kirari can make per day.
o Kirari can plant/water up to 38 seeds/sprouts per day.
o Picking shiny objects up, wandering through the city and talking to NPCs
(at least vendors) seem to not affect in-game time noticeably. Kirari can
freely run for a long time across the entire city, picking shiny objects
up. Playing at Game Arcade (ge-mu senta-) works the same way.
If you are interested in Kirari/Na-san costume collecting, always start
Kirari's day with jogging: explore every outdoor place in the city and pick up
everything from the ground. Interact with '?'-marked NPCs, if any is; visit
Tisla shops. Afterwards save and decide yourself what Kirari should do. You
may want Kirari to train a lot until every skill hit 4,66/5 level.

Shiny spots [C12]
==============================================================================
Walking around the streets you may notice a shiny spot. Na-san helps not to
overlook them. Approach closely and press A button or tap Kirari. She will
pick a shiny object up and reveal an item. Items are determined in the moment
you pick it up, so you can save the game before interaction and turn DS off if
you are not satisfied with item. But it would be silly to waste time, since
there are a lot of shiny spots everywhere.
Shiny spots, along with fishing, are the only way to obtain Album Frames and
Album Backgrounds.
You can find following items:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name | Amount per spot | Rarity
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Album Background (arubamu kabegami) | 1 | Rare
Album Frame (arubamu fure-mu) | 1 | Rare
A lost item (wallets (osaifu), bags (kaban), etc.)| 1 | Rare
Clotier Ticket (fukuyasan no ken) | 1 | Uncommon
Points (p) | 20-99 | Common
Seeds (tane) of any flower | 2-5 | Common
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
Fishing [C13]
==============================================================================
Interact with Na-yan to learn how to fish (tutorial available for once).
Press A button every 0,5 second to successfully fish. I recommend you save
the game before try.
Na-san can fish at Park Area (koen eria) or School Area (gakkou eria).
You can fish following items:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Name | Amount per catch | Rarity
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Album Background (arubamu kabegami)| 1 | Rare
Album Frame (arubamu fure-mu) | 1 | Rare
Clothier Ticket (fukuyasan no ken) | 1 | Uncommon
Salmon (arowana) | 1 | Common
Carp (koi) | 1 | Common
Black Bass (burakku basu) | 1 | Common
Trout (nijimasu) | 1 | Common
Cookie Fish (tayaki) | 1 | Common
Sardine (ayu) | 1 | Common
Goldfish (kingyo) | 1 | Common
Anchovy (medaka) | 1 | Common
Seeds (tane) of any flower | 5 | Too common
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fish can be sold or given as a gift. Check 'Points' chapter in this guide for
further information.
==============================================================================
Growing flowers [C14]
==============================================================================
For the first in-game days Kirari is taught how to grow flowers. Growth takes
three days. Sprouts/flowers can live two days without water, so be sure you
can water/pick up them all before they die (do not start end-game missions,
since every special dialog takes 1 in-game day).
Flowers can not be sold or tossed, as well as seeds. Flowers serve only one
purpose – they should be presented to NPCs in exchange for Kirari/Na-san
costumes or Stamps. Despite there are 15 kinds of flowers, there is no
technical difference between them. Flowers can be obtained only via growing.
Seeds can not be sold or tossed too. They can be sowed and they are required
for Flora-gems mini-game. Each seed has its own color: black, green, yellow,
etc. Seeds can be obtained via growing, shiny spots, fishing, in exchange for
a gift and story progression.
==============================================================================
NPCs and gifts [C15]
==============================================================================
This section is only about NPCs you can interact with.
It is time to talk about gifts. During free time Kirari can present different
items from inventory's first and second sections. Since flowers can not be
tossed or sold, they should be presented to NPCs. You may present Anchovies
too, because they are very cheap. Other items, such as Salmon, can be also
presented, but never do so. Point is that NPCs are not programmed to recognize
differences between any type of flowers, Clothier Tickets (except for the man
from Tisla Cats shop), Salmons, Carps, etc. NPCs will not give you anything
special for a special gift; they are just programmed to give two set costumes
for the first two ANY gifts. (NOTE: there are exclusion NPCs, please see the
table below). After they give Kirari all special gifts in return, they start
to give three seeds. You need to give 68 gifts (69 in JP ver.) to obtain all
respective costumes/stamps.
Associated item is a lost item found in shiny spots. They should be returned
to owners.
Many NPCs change their location every 1-2 days.
Characters are sorted as follows: 'good' persons, 'adults', 'bad' persons,
unnamed characters and miscellaneous. I provided them description in case you
can not read kanji and did not watch anime/read manga, so you can find
characters quickly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seiji |o Special gifts: 1) Pop Sneakers2 (poppu suni-ka-2)

Clothes and album collection [C16]
==============================================================================
There are huge collection of hairstyles, clothes and accessories for Kirari,
costume collection for Na-san and background/stamp/frame collection for album.
New items help you customize image of Kirari and Na-san on upper screen and in
Album Club (arubamu kurabu). Collecting new items is not required to beat the
game. Background/stamp/frame collection can be accessed via Album Club at Game
Arcade (ge-mu senta-) in Town Area (machi eria), and it coasts 100p.
Items can be rarely found on the ground, fished up, bought in Tisla shops,
received in exchange for a gift/Clothier Ticket or available by default/story
progress. I would like to recommend you do not spend points on accessories for
Kirari, since there are always 5/9 accessories (in comparison with hairstyles
5/44) and on Na-san costumes in the beginning.
Each day purchasable items determine before Kirari get up, so do not waste
time turning off/on Nintendo DS.

Album Backgrounds and Frames [S04]
Frames and backgrounds (wallpapers) can be rarely found on the ground and
rarely fished up. I believe there are no differences between shiny spots and
fishing, because I was able to obtain AlbumFrame4 and a background via both
ways. Sorry, there is no description like in Stamps' collection table; it is
hard and unnecessary to explain every frame and especially background.
Backgrounds look like abstract pictures or mission's backgrounds.
Frames look... lame. They often block half of picture and almost always do not
suit wallpaper. Sadly, there is no 'No frame' option in Album Club.

Album Frame2-5 | Shiny object; fishing

FAQ [C17]
==============================================================================
Q: I got stuck. No new missions (job) available.
A: 1) Muranishi has different lists of missions. Wait one/two days till he
switches lists.
2) You may need to talk to specific NPC (Pierre, Mya-san, Tina, Arashi,
Hiroto, etc.). This NPC has visible question-mark. He/she may stop
having '?' mark if you're on job time. He/she may want you to level up
Kirari's skills.
3) So try to train Kirari more. Every skill is important.
4) Probably you got a C. Try to improve your results.
5) Are you sure you have not beat the game? It does not have 'The End'
screen.
Q: There is one mission called Top of the Charts (uta no hitto ten de
toppu!), where all icons are '?'. I can't handle it.
A: Tap and blow at the same time.
Q: I'd like to get a star (perfect) at Swimming Contest (aidoru suiei taikai).
A: Try to catch cookie fish. You need to swim actively, and catch
approximately two fish (score 120 or higher).
Q: Why there is so little information about characters? Some of unique
characters have only cameo appearances (Tsurara, Subaru).
A: Because the game is based on manga/anime series and, I assume, was not
meant for players who do not know Kirarin Revolution.
