I. Introduction
This is my Yoh Asakura FAQ, in case you haven't quite noticed yet. This is
really my first attempt at any sort of guide ever, so some things may be a bit
skewed and some of the information may not be worded very well, but I'll try
my best. I hope this guide makes you be able to make you better with Yoh.
I'm sure you're sitting there thinking "Get on with it already!"... Well,
you've probably skipped this part if you said that. :/
-------------------------------------
II. Introduction to Character and Whatnot
The character of Yoh Asakura was introduced in the manga Shaman King. He is
the protagonist of the work. While the story may not be much to look at, the
art in the books are tremendous, and is definitely the main attraction to the
series.
He is the main character, and you soon learn that he has a guardian spirit
named Amidamaru, who he can `fuse` with in order to gain some uber 1337 life
haxing sword skills in order to cut down tyranny and win the title of the
Shaman King. I've never actually read very far into the books, and I caught a
bit of the 4Kids dub, but beyond that is kinda blank.
If anyone has any more information (or, better yet, a different and better
version), feel free to send it in.
Yoh's help koma can be unlocked by doing the Shaman King world in the
J-Blackhole, by completing Mission 1's first objective "KO opponents to get
the most points." Say thanks to Genroh for the information.

IV. Damage Output/ Various Koma
---The only person that receives a boost from Yoh is Anna.---
=====HELP KOMA=====
Shape: []
Effect: Attack up when health is low.
Analysis: A decent effect, but there are better...
=====SUPPORT KOMA=====
(2 KOMA; KNOWLEDGE)
Shape: [][]
Effect: Yoh appears, and slashes with his sword. A wind blade will continue
to travel forwards until colliding with something.
Damage: 22 against Power and Knowledge characters.
33 against Laughter Characters.
Analysis: Decent, but provides no extra effects. An average two koma.
(3 KOMA; LAUGHTER)
[]
Shape: [][]
Effect: Yoh appears, along with Amidamaru as an orange ball. Yoh grabs
Amidamaru and throws him, causing movement down upon impact.
Damage: 20 against Knowledge and Laughter characters.
30 against Power characters.
Analysis: A better type of support koma, definitely, what with all the power
characters being used these days. The two or three damage sacrificed for
movement down is a decent trade-off, but I like the fact that it's laughter
based. Better than the two koma support.
=Battle Koma=
(INNATE ABILITIES)
-Cannot be moved while guarding.
-Using supports related to Yoh raises SP.
(BASIC DAMAGE OUTPUTS)
-B-
Effect: Quick horizontal slash.
Damage: 8 to power and knowledge.
12 to laughter.
OR (For alt 4 koma)
8 to knowledge and laughter
12 to power
Analysis: Just a quick attack for pestering.
-Forward + B-
Effect: Yoh steps forward into a thrust, traveling forward a little.
Damage: 8 to power and knowledge.
12 to laughter.
OR (For alt 4 koma)
8 to knowledge and laughter
12 to power
Analysis: This attack adds range to a basic pestering attack. Otherwise,
almost exactly the same.
-Up + B-
Effect: Yoh thrusts upwards with his sword.
Damage: 8 to power and knowledge.
12 to laughter.
OR (For alt 4 koma)
8 to knowledge and laughter
12 to power
Analysis: Very good range for use on a person who's sleeping above you.
-Down + B-
Effect: Yoh has green/yellow lines surround him for a little bit, then
slashes forward with his sword, moving himself forward an
insignificant amount. Forces a character switch.
Damage: 8 to power and knowledge.
12 to laughter.
OR (For alt 4 koma)
8 to knowledge and laughter
12 to power
Analysis: Basically the same as neutral B with a slight start up time. Forces
a character switch, which is advantageous in certain situations.
-Y-
Effect: Yoh slashes vertically, knocking back an unguarded opponent a little
bit.
Damage: 16 to power and knowledge.
24 to laughter
OR (For alt 4 koma)
16 to knowledge and laughter.
24 to power.
Analysis: As a standalone move, it has a ton of ending lag. Hope you connect
with this slash, or you're in for a world of hurt.
-Forward + Y-
Effect: Yoh slashes with his sword. A wind blade will continue to travel
forwards until colliding with something. This IS Yoh's two koma
attack. Disappears when it crosses edge of screen.
Damage: 15 to power and knowledge.
22 to laughter.
OR (For alt 4 koma)
15 to knowledge and laughter.
22 to power.
Analysis: Good long range move to hit and/or cancel out some of those
other annoying long range projectiles.
-Up + Y-
Effect: Yoh jumps and slashes with his sword, doing a 360 in midair.
Damage: 16 to power and knowledge.
24 to laughter
OR (For alt 4 koma)
16 to knowledge and laughter.
24 to power.
Analysis: This attack is a great set-up for an aerial strike.
-Down + Y-
Effect: Yoh is surrounded with red lines, jumps forward, and slashes down.
One of the quicker guard breaks.
Damage: 16 to power and knowledge.
24 to laughter
OR (For alt 4 koma)
16 to knowledge and laughter.
24 to power.
Analysis: Guard-breaking is always fun.
-A + B-
Effect: A simple midair horizontal slash.
Damage: 8 to power and knowledge.
12 to laughter.
OR (For alt 4 koma)
8 to knowledge and laughter
12 to power
Analysis: Good for a quick midair swipe. Not much else to say.
-A + Y-
Effect: Yoh dive-bombs diagonally with his sword outstretched.
Damage: 16 to power and knowledge.
24 to laughter
OR (For alt 4 koma)
16 to knowledge and laughter.
24 to power.
Analysis: Another quick midair strike which can put you on the ground in a
hurry. Be wary of using this attack around edges.
(4 KOMA; KNOWLEDGE OR LAUGHTER)
J-Soul: 152
Boosted By: Anna, Manta, Joseph (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)
[][] []
Shape: [][] OR [][][]
Ultimate Action: Yoh lays on the ground and goes to sleep. Recovers SP
veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery slowly.
Special Attack A: Yoh thrusts his sword forward kind of like his forward + B
attack, only it damages more. Knowledge based damage.
Damage: 32 to power and knowledge.
48 to laughter.
Analysis: A special attack that's very easy to combo into, and it does very
good damage for a 4 koma.
Special Attack B: Yoh grabs Amidamaru who appears as an orange ball and throws
him, causing movement down upon impact. Disappears when it
hits the end of the screen. Laughter based damage.
Damage: 20 to knowledge and laughter.
30 to power.
Analysis: This is basically the 3 koma support, down to the damages.

Shape: [] []

Ultimate Action: Yoh lays on the ground and goes to sleep. Recovers SP
veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery slowly.
Special Attack A: Yoh holds his hands above his head and summon a huge sword.
He slashed with it vertically, and makes a large shockwave.
It disappears at the end of the screen, and goes through
enemies while damaging them.
Damage: 32 to Power and Knowledge.
48 to laughter.
Analysis: Simply amazing. This thing has some major range, reaching really
high above Yoh himself. It can also hit a few enemies at once.
It even goes through a blocking enemy. Great for free for alls.
Special Attack B: Yoh's sword suddenly decides to become a power pole and
extends far beyond its normal length straight outwards.
A multi-hit attack.
Damage (Max): 36 to power and knowledge
54 to laughter
Analysis: Not as good when compared to the awesomeness of special attack A.
The multi-hit property basically ensures that Yoh will never do the
maximum amount of damage, and the attack does not even send the
opponent flying. What a waste.

DIFFERENT SPRITE ALERT!!!! Yoh's armguard looks much more awesome. Also, his
sword has more reach.
Special Attack A: Yoh thrusts his sword forward. If this strike hits, then
he jumps up diagonally for another strike, bring his
opponent with him. If the second midair strike hits, your
opponent is blinded.
Damage: If hit once: 10 to power and knowledge.
15 to laughter.
If hit twice: 34 to power and knowledge.
51 to laughter.
Analysis: This attack is also amazing. It's really easy to the two hits in.
It's so easy to combo into, and it hits for a decent amount of
damage. Not only that, it decided to white out the opponent's
screen, too! If the opponent is immune to blindness, it kind of
deteriorates the impact of the move, but there aren't many people
who guard against it.
Special Attack B: Another multi-hitter. Summons other people who I don't
recognize to attack. Five hit combo if done right, and it
sends the opponent back towards you for insane set-up
possibilities.
Damage (Max): 48 to power and knowledge.
72 to laughter.
Analysis: I find myself not using this move very much. It has excellent
potential, however, for comboing with supports. I haven't really
messed with this move all that much, nor have I tried all the
supports, but you people could probably think of something, right?

V. Making Yourself Win With Yoh
=SUPPORTING/HELPING YOH=
First, which supporting koma should you use?
It's a good idea to boost Yoh, but if you paid attention as you were reading,
you'll find that Yoh has two different sets of ally boosts. I'll cover the
best of both worlds.
For using any of Yoh's koma...
Anna- Her Help Koma, Increase special gauge while multi-hitting, is pretty
sweet, too. Yoh spends quite a bit of time comboing in order to reduce the
lag on his attacks.
If all that fails, her two koma's really not that great. Her three koma deals
decent damage and provides a speed down effect, but you probably won't even
need that playing a 4-koma Yoh.
I think I'd opt for the help Koma.
For 4 & 5 Koma Yoh...
Manta- You're stuck using a help koma here. But it's a good one: Increase
the strength of your guard. Since Yoh inherently stays in one place while
guarding, he essentially becomes an iron wall of doom.
Joseph Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)- See invisible characters? That
help koma's pretty worthless, actually...
His two-koma is way too slow, even if it does provide paralysis.
Which leaves his three koma. It's what I would recommend, as it pulls the
enemy close and can lengthen a with Yoh. Which, with an Anna help koma on,
works pretty darn well.
For Yoh's 6 Koma...
Hao- Hao's pretty much all around awesome.
Her help koma's "SP gauge regenerates while not changing characters or using
support characters." Sounds pretty good to me.
Her two koma drops oranges everywhere. Make sure no one else can horde them,
or else the purpose will have been defeated.
Amidamaru- Immunity to judgement? What a crappy effect. D:
With all the ally boosting supports out of the way, it's time for... DUN DUN
DUN! NON BOOSTING SUPPORTS!
Hitsugaya 3 koma- Decent stuff. Beam of ice and freeze. Freeze and beam of
ice. Pretty easy to hit with if you're smart about it.
Gotenks 2 koma- See above, except quicker and without the freeze.
Trunks/Seiya/Sena/Satsuki/la-di-da: All of these deserve a mention on any
list for being so darn awesome people started banning them.
=YOH'S BACK UP=
Anna- Feeling brave? Try out her 4 Koma! Not only do they boost each other,
Anna's 4 koma has a lot of ringout potential and has that awesome "Hey, look,
I grab you then turn around." move. . . Did I mention they boost each other?
The only problem is, they're both knowledge type... But, hey, look at that!
4 Koma Laughter Yoh!
A Good Laughter Koma- Any really work here, I reccomend 5 koma Gintoki or 5
Koma Don Patch. Whichever laughter character you feel most comfortable with.
=PLAYING AS YOH=
Now, here's the part you're probably like "Finally, he went through ALL that
psycho-babble, and here we are at the good part!"
Well, listen up. The best thing you can do with Yoh is stay aggressive. Keep
in people's faces. Keep comboing. I know that sounds stupid, because
comboing is pretty essential with any character, but in Yoh's case, it's
especially important. Yoh's individual attacks, as you'll soon notice, have
tons of ending lag. Comboing makes that ending lag time virtually
non-existant.
For example. Use the Y attack. Notice how long it takes to recover? You
could get busted in the face for standing there that long. Now, use Y, but
combo it into Forward + Y. Notice all the lag time that should have been at
the end of the first attack was completely and utterly nullified. Cool beans,
right? This makes Yoh play tons faster than normal. Yoh's two aerial attack
also combo into each other fairly quickly, something that can rack on the
damage because of its not being expected.
I tend to avoid the two four koma Yohs. Not only do they not live up to the
expectations of their higher komas (Unlike some others), they just don't have
any staying power. I'd recommend 5 koma if you knew that you were going into
a free for all, because that Special Attack A is devastating in a crowd, along
with the better choices for a crowd-based game support boost wise.
Six Koma Yoh is devastating in one-on-one. Blindness is something to be
feared, assuredly. Even if your opponent has resistance to it on, the attack
in and of itself will still hurt. His special attack A doesn't really work as
well in multi-player situations as it really singles out one character at a
time.
Those are all good points to becoming better with Yoh. Anything else, feel
free to contact me.
-------------------------------------
VI. Making Others Lose With Yoh
Yoh's biggest weakness is definitely guard breaking. Since Yoh's guard is
more useful than most of the others, you may find yourself abusing his guard
even more than you should. Then, along comes Allen to ruin all of his fun.
Another good thing to keep in mind is that Yoh does not have very good
footspeed. A fast character can easily run in circles around Yoh.
The fact that many of Yoh's koma are knowledge based does nothing to help
matters in this oversaturated power character market...
-------------------------------------
