[1] INTRODUCTION
`----------------------------------------------------------------------'
- Guitar Hero: On Tour -
Given the snowballing mainstream strength of the Guitar Hero game
series, it's comes as a surprise to no one that the series has made its
way to the Nintendo DS. Guitar Hero: On Tour is the first installment of
the Guitar Hero franchise to be released on a dedicated portable video
game system. And to everyone's surprise, it's actually pretty good.
The game takes the core experience of Guitar Hero and downsizes it to a
portable format, making fuller use of the DS capabilities than you'd
expect from even first-party games. It comes with this innovative 4-fret
"Guitar Grip" peripheral that fits snugly into the GBA game pak slot of
the DS. The touch screen is used for strumming with the custom guitar
pick. And the microphone is used to activate star power. The sum result
is an undeniably real Guitar Hero experience. An awesome achievement
considering it lacks the seemingly most essential element: A guitar.
So.. I wandered onto GameFAQs and noticed that, despite this game having
been out for five months already, there are still no FAQs available. The
temptation was too much to resist. It's probably one of the last games
anyone would bother looking for a FAQ for, but anyway, here you go. :)
,----------------------------------------------------------------------.
[2] GAMEPLAY
`----------------------------------------------------------------------'
Here's a section for the bare basics, partly copied from the instruction
manual.
To begin playing, insert the Guitar Hero game cart into the Nintendo DS
game card slot and insert the Guitar Grip into the GBA game pak slot,
then press the power button.
Using the Guitar Hero Guitar Grip:
1. Make sure that the Nintendo DS is turned off
2. Insert the Guitar Grip into the Game Pak slot on the Nintendo DS
3. Remove the pick stylus from the Guitar Grip
4. Adjust the strap so it is secure around your hand.
Take frequent breaks to avoid any discomfort or cramping in your hand.
Try different play styles to find the one most comfortable for you. For
example, you may try to keep your wrist straight while playing.
On Tour consists of pressing the Fret Buttons and strumming anywhere on
the Touch Screen with the pick stylus in sync to the notes that are
scrolling toward you on the screen. For more info on the mechanics of
the game, see the in-game tutorial. Follow it. Study it. Live it.
,----------------------------------------------------------------------.
[3] GUITAR DUEL
`----------------------------------------------------------------------'
This battle mode is played by two players. The second player can be one
of your favorite Guitar Hero characters, or you can have a friend jump
in using the Nintendo DS wireless communications.
Instead of Star Power, you get Battle Power-ups. Hit each series of
Battle Gems to collect Attacks. Attacks are displayed as icons in a row
on the touch-screen, and can be used anytime by tapping the icon.
A winner is determined by who has the highest score at the end of the
song
Guitar Duel Items
-----------------
- Broken String
A random string will snap, and the player must drag the broken ends
together before that note can be played again.
- Signature
An excited fan shoves an item in front of the player's view until
they sign it.
- Pyrotechnics
Fireworks go wrong and light the touch screen on fire until the
player blows it out with the microphone. (Note: This includes when
the microphone is set to "off".)
- Hyperspeed
The speed at which the notes travel doubles.
- Camera Flash
Multiple fans take flash photos, temporarily blinding the player.
- Screen Flip
The two DS screens temporarily switch places.
- Amp Overload
The player's music will temporarily be muted.
- Steal Item
The player can choose one of the opponent's powers to steal.
- Difficulty Up
The opponent's difficulty level is temporarily raised one level.
- Difficulty Down
The player's difficulty level is temporarily lowered one level.
- Bomb Notes
Randomly selected notes appear as bombs that should NOT be played.
- Shield
Temporarily block the opponent from attacking you.

`----------------------------------------------------------------------'
Here's some info on the songs in this game's playlist. I'm not going to
go into detail on strategies for individual songs-- that would just feel
silly, this isn't the kind of game that needs a walkthrough.
The first part here is a table summarizing the songs and some basic
info. The next part goes into a bit more detail with a listing of the
songs along with info like number of notes, and a breakdown.

[5] STUFF
`----------------------------------------------------------------------'
I'm lumping the lists of characters and lists of guitars into this
section titled "Stuff". Heh.
There are 6 different characters (each with 3 outfits) and 10 different
guitars (each with 2 finishes). These things don't really effect
anything, just asthetics.
Each of the character descriptions and guitar descriptions in this
section are the actual text from the game.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< CHARACTERS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
1. Gunner Jaxon
A man of few words, he lets his guitar do the talking for him.
Formerly "Augustus Edward Jackson", Gunner never fit into the mold his
parents had picked out for him. Given the choice to be an athlete or a
lawyer, he chose option C... rock stardom. Not caring what other people
thing, the only feedback Gunner likes comes from his amp. For a quiet
guy, he sure keeps his volume high. His band members say that he needs
blaring music in order to sleep at night.
Outfits:
- Flannel Hero
- Random Junk
- Whatever
2. Pandora
Pandora is the princess of goth. When she was a kid, she told a ghost
story so scary that she was kicked out of the girl scouts and earned a
merit badge for creeping people out. Her path to the dark side was
complete when she got her first guitar, which she named "Ms. Screams".
Pandora lures in large crowds and then opens up a storm of dark guitar
wailing, sick chords, and pestilence.
Outfits:
- Leathers
- Bad Apple
- Midnight Lace
3. Johnny Napalm
Johnny Napalm is the most angry, disprespectful, intense, and
controversial guitarist today. Once the music starts, all his aggression
suppressed by society's laws comes out on his strings. He has been
labelled a lost cause, a menace to society, an anarchist, and a guitar
legend. Johnny can incite a riot (and often does) with his aggressive
chords. His chaotic guitar playing excites audiences and keeps people
screaming for more.
Outfits:
- Formal Wear
- Ink
- Anarchy
4. Memphis Rose
Memphis is a blonde bandid known for stealing shows and stealing
hearts. She goes where the music is hot and makes it even hotter. Her
parents tried to raise a southern belle, but Memphis's rebel spirit and
rip-roaring passion for southern rock keep her out at night playing 'til
the cows come home. Her fast strumming, fierce plucking, and occasional
wink drive audiences wild! Memphis is known as the only rock star to
blow kisses while playing a guitar solo.
Outfits:
- Cowgirl
- Recruit
- Biker Gal
5. Judy Nails
Judy's first real love was rock, and ever since then she's only dated
fellow musicians and geologists. She's got more attitude and raw talent
than any other girl in alternative rock. Wherever Judy goes, loud noise
and screaming crowds follow -- sometimes from obsessive fans that just
got her signature, and sometimes from nosy reporters that just got her
fist in their face.
Outfits:
- Crimson
- Flashback
- Pirette
6. Axel Steel
Axel Steel is one of the legendary monsters of rock. He shreds his
guitar like it's cheese. Driven by heavy metal, death metal, metal-core,
thrash metal, power metal and of course good old fashioned metal, some
say axel is so metal that he's bullet proof. When Axel isn't rocking
out, he likes to watch zombie movies and ride his motorcycle.
Outfits:
- Shirt
- Other Shirt
- No Shirt
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< GUITARS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
1. Les Paul
The Les Paul was Gibson's first solid body electric guitar. Since
1952, the Les Paul has been an icon of rock and roll in the hands of
musicians like Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Joe Perry, Slash, and Les
Paul himself.
Variations:
- Cherry Sunburst Classic
- Violet Burst
2. SG
Slimmer and more sinister looking, the SG was supposed to be a lighter
version of the Les Paul, but became a symbol all on its own. SG stands
for "Solid Guitar" and has been an popular instrument among rock stars
like Angus Young, Frank Zappa, and Pete Townshend since its original
model in 1961.
Variations:
- Cherry Standard
- Daytona Blue
3. Flying V
The Flying V was one of the 1958 trio of progressive guitar designs.
With the Flying V, Gibson proved that they could design cutting-edge
guitars with cutting-edge sound. This "modern" guitar has been used by
famous guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz, and Marc Bolan.
Variations:
- Classic White
- Worn Cherry
4. X-plorer
Originally called the Futura, then the Explorer, the X-plorer came out
alongside the V and the Moderne in 1958. The design is considered
"futuristic" with its use of angular lines. The design was meant to be
the future image of electric guitars.
Variations:
- Ebony
- Custom Rising Sun
5. Firebird
The Firebird was first introduced in 1963 and featured neck-through
construction, humbuckers, and a sculpted two-tone headstock with banjo
pegs. Its unconventional body style reversed traditional guitar
designs. The Firebird was meant to be a "toned down" version of the
Explorer.
Variations:
- Natural Sunburst
- Ebony
6. Moderne
One of the three "modernistic" guitar designs of 1958 with the V and
Explorer, the Moderne did not share the successes of its sibling
guitars. An original Moderne is believed to be the rarest of all
electric guitars, if they even exist.
Variations:
- Natural
- Pale Yellow
7. ES-335
Widely embraced for its mixture of traditional design with modern
elements, the ES-335 is an instant classic. Easily recognized for its
semi-acoustic double cutaway body, slim and fast neck, and separate
tone and volume controls, it is the preferred instrument of B.B. King
and Larry "Mr. 335" Carlton.
Variations:
- Birdseye Maple
- Custom Cherry
8. Les Paul Dbl. Cutaway
The classic Les Paul never needed any improvements, but many prefer
the double cutaway for its enhanced access to all 22 frets. First
introduced in 1958, the double cutaway gives a new look and feel to a
legendary guitar.
Variations:
